The designated meeting place for three of the miscreants, of which there are twelve in total, lay just a block away from Hiromi. The meeting time had been decided as 4 o'clock and it was currently 3.49. Time was short, what would Hiromi do. He had to take out the criminals before they could all get together, but he was standing in the middle of a crowded marketplace with no way to tell which, if any, of these people were his targets.

Yume was worried. He'd never taken a mission before and as a lone genin he was surprised that his superiors had trusted him with dealing with miscreants and thieves. Yume did not doubt his ability to do so, but he .felt the weight of the trust that had been placed upon him. He scanned the crowd around him. He had eleven minutes to find and neutralize these targets. He should have, perhaps, thought to bring some kind of rope or other means of securing his prisoners, but in his haste he had not. He would simply have to beat them into unconsciousness. How to draw them out though? Yume would have to come up with some way.

Hm... well they are thieves, even this close to a meeting if I gave them a good target they might go for the bait, and if that doesn't work I can save enough time to go look for them at the meeting place. I'll just have to hope they aren't very bright and they love money as much as I think they do.

Yume reached into his obi and pulled out his coin purse. He had been saving up for quite some time to buy himself and a certain kunoichi a nice lunch sometime, but hopefully he wasn't truly risking his cash. He carefully tied the purse to his sash, letting it dangle in such as way as to look as though it was almost ready to fall off his waist. To a suspecting thief, it would hopefully appear to be an easy target..

It was only a moment after he tied his purse to his belt that a man knocked into him from behind on the same side. A small, two inch blade went to cut the string as the man looked into his eyes and mumbled his apologies to keep the boy's attention on his face, while the feeling of the cut was disabled as the bag was cradled in the man's free hand. This man was without a doubt experienced. But was Yume good enough to flout him?

Yume felt the bump from behind. Turning he found a man who looked as though he'd been in a hurry. The many looked into his eyes and uttered a very sincere sounding apology. Yume smiled at the man. It wasn't often you found people this polite in the hustle and bustle of city life, even in a place as well mannered as Kumogakure no Sato. Yume wanted to thank the man. If he hadn't shown up Yume might not have been able to complete his mission.

"You know, one of the benefits of wearign these light linen clothes of mine is that they weigh nothing. It's almost as if I'm naked you know? However, that coin purse is fairly heavy; I've been saving for a while. So when you hold it like that, and I can't feel it tugging at these nice clothes, it's kind of worrisome. What if I were to lose my savings? How would I take pretty girls out to lunch then?"

Yume's eyes never left his target as he spoke, smiling all the while. With a quick movement he used his Swift Elbow technique; aiming for the man's head.

As soon as the conversation was struck the thief knew he would have to fight the boy. However, his new found confidence in being asked to be a founder of a syndicate made him overestimate his ability, so he thought he would win easily and overlooked the fact that the boy was a ninja. The elbow to his head was indeed a surprise, but it wasn't as surprising as the boy intended, and not in the same way. The man had been prepared for a hit, so he moved away from it with a thief's quickness. But the elbow struck the top of his head, rather than the temple, and sent him reeling over because of his awkward positioning. The purse still in his hands as he tried to regain his balance.

Yume was shocked when he felt his elbow impact the top of the thief's head. As his arm snapped back ready to make the next blow his opponent stumbled back. Yume was a bit taken aback that the man had the faculties to hold onto the young shinobi's coin but he pressed on with his attack. This man was stronger than Yume had anticipated. What if he was a rogue shinobi or assasin? Perhaps this was a test to see how Yume would handle himself in a dangerous situation.

Not waiting for his opponent to get up Yume dropped into a low stance firing his Spear Hand aimed at his target's .... uh... tender bits. He hoped the pain of this blow might make the man more compliant with being apprehended. If it didn't, he could always continue his assault but he was running out of time and didn't want to cause too much of a scene.

Already off balance, the man was thrown backward onto his backside. After the pain registered with him, he dropped the purse and small blade. He rolled over slightly and vomited all over the cobblestone beneath them. He lay there shuddering as he tried to cope with the intense pain the boy had just dealt him. So much for a rogue assassin.

However, time was running out, even though only two thieves remained for the meeting, which meant that any significant progress would not be made. Yume had caused a crowd to gather, which had formed a circle around the two men, and were watching with awe. They cheered when the other man had fallen and now stood milling around, wondering what the boy would do next. They barred his way and would make going slow to get to the meeting place before the other men, so Yume would just have to arrive a little late and fight two at once, unless he could find a way to disperse the crowd.

As the opponent retched onto the ground it occured to Yume that perhaps he'd tamken things a bit too far. This man might still be a dangerous rogue, but something Yume's training had taught him was that no man, great or small, could train for a blow like that completely. Taking no chances Yume followed up his attack with another Swift Elbow to the temple of his fallen foe, this would hopefully send him into unconsciousness which, at the moment, might be a relief.

Yume noted that a crowd had gathered, pressing in around him. This wasn't good, he might not be able to get out in time like this. Thinking fast Yume scooped up his coin purse while bowing low at the waist in the opposite direction of the meeting place.

"Lord Raikage! I have subdued the criminal sir!"

As he bowed low Yume gathered his legs beneath him and prepared to leap backwards, hopefully going over a distracted crowd of onlookers. He knew someone would have already alerted the authorities. He had to move on to his next target and time was of the essence.

At the mention of the Raikage, the crowd turned their heads in shock and seemed to thin out a bit as people took tentative steps toward the direction Yume had indicated with his bow. The way was clear toward the meeting place now, however there was barely two minutes in which to make it there before the thieves. The little stunt to take out the first thief had taken more time than originally anticipated.

It seemed, however, that one block was easily achievable by a fit young shinobi such as Yume, as he made it on time. Only one thief was present at the meeting place, and he looked up at Yume as he scanned the steady flow of traffic, nowhere near as busy as the marketplace, however still two or three people walked abreast. The man was waiting outside a restaurant, looking at the crowd, making him seem very suspicious, as expected of low-level criminals such as these.

Yume noted the man acting suspiciously at the restaurant. Yume was fairly certain that this man was one of the criminals. He appeared to be suspicious and was waiting for something. Yume contemplated his options. He could attack the man directly and trust his gut that the man was the thief, but he would then suffer harshly if he was wrong. Perhaps there was another way. Thieves were shifty creatures by nature, and Yume could use that to his advantage and try to get a rise out of this one.

Yume closed the distance between himself and the man, walking purposefully and staring the man in his eyes, as he grew closer he called out in a loud voice.

"Stop thief, I'm here to arrest you on the authority of the Raikage! Surrender now and you will not be harmed!"

Yume meant what he said, sort of. He wouldn't hurt the man...but he would need to knock him unconscious for the police to collect. It was the only method he had of making sure the man didn't run as soon as Yume was gone to collect the others.
He really needed to start bringing rope or something on his missions. He was certainly learning some things here today.

As if he was inspired by Yume's thoughts of running, the thief dashed off from the wall. He paused only to reach into his pockets and grab a handful of change. He threw the coins toward Yume, not as an actual attack, but so as the distract Yume to get a head start on the younger boy. However, his call toward the thief had caused the pedestrians to stop and look once again, meaning it was easy to spot the running figure in the street. This would become a chase if Yume delayed too long, but if he got too far away from the meeting place, he might miss his third target.

Yume sighed internally as the thief ran. He'd been right about the man but now he had a chase on his hands. Sure, Yume could catch him, he was one of the fastest genin in the village and proud of it. That would take too long though. He noted the pedestrians around him, frozen in shock and confusion at what was happening in front of them. Yume had to stop the thief before he got too far. Yume sprinted full tilt after the man reaching into his holster he grasped 5 shuriken, sending each at the target's legs being careful to lead him a bit. He made sure to call out as he did.

"Nobody move! For your own safety!"

Yume didn't want anyone accidently getting cut by his shuriken. His throw wouldn't be perfect do to the speed at which he was running but he was careful and so there was little danger unless an onlooker bolted in front of him without reason suddenly. He hoped the thief would be slowed by his shuriken even if by some miracle none of them hit, it would slow him enough for Yume's plan. Yume employed one of his favorite techniques, The Rippling Brook.

This rush forward is quite sudden, and hopes to catch the opponent off guard.

The majority of the shuriken missed the fleeing thief, however a few did manage to cut the running man. The cling of metal on the ground accompanied with the cuts he sustained caused him to stumble, slowing him enough for Yume to execute his technique. The man had been standing one moment and the next he felt as if he had been planted halfway into the stone street below. He coughed and rolled on the floor, arching his back to try and cope with the pain. This thief was done. However, another man was now standing over Yume, looking down on the prone figure of the boy. A knife glittered in his hands as he lifted it up, a look of pure hatred fixed on his face. The knife came slicing down toward the lying boy's face. It seems the third thief had found him.

Shit!

This was now more dangerous than it was a second before. Yume had trained with and against weapons before but this was real; no one was pulling punches here. Yume reacted as quickly as he could. The good thing about his position was that his arms were free. Shooting his hand up in an attempt to protect his face Yume attempted the Rolling Clouds technique. He knew the knife would hit the back of his wrist and was suddenly very grateful for his steel gauntlets. As he moved his other hand moved to cover his nose and mouth with his fist, the back of his forearm ready to fend off attacks if his technique were to fail.

Yume wasn't in a good position to counter his assailant; it was going to be tough going for the genin to get off the ground.

This technique is only successful if the user's (Speed+Taijutsu)/2 is more than the opponent's (Speed+Taijutsu)/2. If the user's strength stat is 2 or more under the opponent's the jutsu will fail.

The thief snarled as his knife glanced off the side of Yume's outstretched arm. Rather than going for the knife again, he simply went to kick the boy in the head, which was close enough to his feet anyway. He put all his strength and wait into stomping on the lying ninja's face, screaming at him to just die.

Yume would have to deal with this one quick, for if he was too slow, the other might recover.

Yume knew he wasn't going to be able to dodge the hit. His opponent was too close and he didn't have a good position to be able to dodge or block. Setting himself he focused, utilzing the Internal Strength technique his father had taught him from a young age. He kept his arm in place, so as to lessen the inevitable blow to his face. His other hand grasped one of the shuriken in the first assailants leg, ripping it out as fast as he could. He would try to cut the Achilles tendon of his assailant as the boot met his feeble block.

When faced with a physical blow(chakra based or otherwise) the user tightens the muscles of the body and lessens the impact. The user is less likely to be knocked back by a physical blow(within reason) and anyone hitting the user with a fist or bare hand/foot will note that it is like striking a tree, as the body has been hardened by the intensive training. While this reduces the initial force and damage the of the attack, it can be quite taxing on the body. The user is considered to have Strength +1, speed-1). This jutsu can be used for up to 3 posts.

The thief grinned in satisfaction as his boot made contact with his opponent's arm and face. He chuckled at the pain he was no doubt causing the boy. As he lifted his foot to try again he noticed that the ninja had reached for a shuriken because of the shout of pain that came from his soon-to-be partner in crime. He jumped away from the boy, snarling at his loss of a position of power.

Yume rolled back on his shoulders, knees tucked to his chest and sprang to his feet. His lip was bleeding from the attack and he had a small cut on his hand from how he'd grabbed the shuriken. He was upset now. He'd been hit in training lots of times but when it came to actual fights he'd rarely been touched. He calmed himself, not allowing it to affect his judgment. As he landed on his feet he locked his eyes on his opponent. He would have to make sure his fallen foe did not join this fray.

Stooping quickly Yume did to the fallen thief what he'd intended for the one facing him now. Two quick slashes and it was done, no more Achilles tendon for the downed man. Medic nins would be able to heal that would, but without them he'd not walk again. Yume assumed a low stance. It was time to take his opponent seriously. He would use his Rising Shadow Palms technique to test the man.
JutsuShow
† Rising Shadow Palms(T'ai Chi Ch'uan)
Type: C-Ranked Taijutsu
Description: A palm strike aimed at the chin. Yume will strike from a semi-crouched/low position with the right palm, bringing it up to attack the targeted area. At the same time he pivots his hips and lifts with his knees, drawing the striking power and speed not from the arms, but from the hips and legs. As Yume strikes he will attack with the left palm as well, “hiding” it behind the right(the angle of the body prevents an opponent who is above and in front of Yume from being able to see the second attack, a "sleight of hand" type trick). As the second strike is delivered Yume will shift the left shoulder forward to extend the range of the strike. The advantage to this technique is the surprising power gained from the low stance and the position of the body that allows the opponent to see only the first strike coming. Often the second strike, as it cannot be seen, can connect even if the first is blocked.

The man held his knife warily and watched as Yume slashed the other man's achilles tendons. However, he didn't waste this precious opening the boy had given him. He drew a second knife and held it in a reverse grip, a defensive grip. He was going to be serious too.

As Yume came in for the double punch, the first was blocked as the man stepped back to allow extra time for his arm to get in the way, but the second connected with his stomach. A low grunt was all that came from the hulking man who opposed Yume. He then stuck back, aiming a slash toward the young boy's face to make him jump back. As he retreated, the man would actually release the knife which he was swinging to throw it at the boy, and follow it up by chasing him down to plunge the reverse grip knife into his chest. The knife would travel at a speed of four.

Yume saw the incoming attack as an opportunity. If he could slip by this attack he would be able to strike at his opponent's more vulnerable sides and attempt to bring this fight to a close without any needless bloodshed on either side. He thought of the man he'd just disabled. Ordinarily he might feel badly about what he'd done, but this was a mission and a battle of life or death. The other man would be fine so long as Yume could win and made sure that he was treated before being sent to prison.

Yume relied on the flowing breeze technique. If he could slip past the thief he would follow it up with a combination of an elbow and a "notch" to the underarm and ribs, devised at bringing his larger foe down. Yume had practiced extensively against weapon weilding foes but this was only the second time he'd faced one in combat. He was grateful for the training his previous teacher had given him.

While doing so he will attempt to fluidly move under and around the attack with a quick duck of the upper body at the waist, while squatting in a low stance. This technique only works if the user's (Speed+Taijutsu)/2 is greater than the opponent's (Speed+Taijutsu)/2.

Unlike most elbow techniques which hit across the target, this technique requires the user to pull the elbow back quickly after striking in preparation for another blow; this make the technique faster and easier to use in combination with other techniques, but drops some of the power from the hit.

† Notching the Branch(T'ai Chi Ch'uan)
Type: D-Ranked Taijutsu
Prerequisite: 4+ Wit
Description: An open handed knife-like strike aimed for the weak spot in the opponents joints. These being the shoulder joint, the collarbone, and the insides of the thighs(the groin). Yume will strike with great force, shifting power up from the legs from a crouching position to grant more speed and power, rather than relying upon just the arm. The striking arm will be almost fully extended upon contact and as it extends a sharp twisting motion ensures damage to the joint which can be quite painful, and may make it difficult to move for one post if successful. This technique gets its name from the way it is designed to be used. Multiple uses on the same target to render it useless, much like notching a tree that is too large to cut in one go.

While Yume had ducked under the knife sweep and throw, his opponent wasn't about to just let him do as he please. Right as the boy ducked, the thief lifted his leg to kick Yume in the nether regions. It may be a cheap shot, but as Yume was closing the gap, it was the best bet the man thought he had of getting out of this in better condition than his buddy.

Just as his leg swung up, his opponent's elbow came in and bashed him in the chest. This sent him falling backwards, but the man placed his hands onto the ground and pushed to give his groin kick strength.

Yume saw the blow coming but knew he wasn't going to be quite fast enough to dodge it. He would have to ride out the blow instead. It was risky but Yume didn't have time to think of a better idea. The young genin closed his thighs as tightly as he could and focused, using a technique he disliked due to the fact that it meant he was about to be struck. It was his only chance though. After the blow he would attempt to follow up with a punch/elbow combination to finish his opponent off.

†First Strike(Wing Chun)
Type: D Ranked Taijutsu
Description: The basic punch of the Wing Chun style. Rather than rotating the fist(thumb down) and firing from the shoulder like most punches, Yume fires a straight punch(thumb to the inside, fist held vertical rather than horizontal), following the theory that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. The power from this punch flows throughout the entire arm, and incorporates both the bicep and the motion of the elbow to achieve speed rather than power.

†Swift Elbow(Wing Chun)
Type: D Ranked Taijutsu
Description: A very fast strike used when in close proximity to the opponent. The user swings the arm in a short, sharp, horizontal arc with the fist pulled back toward the bicep. The elbow is used to deliver a blow with the hard bone to the jaw or temple. Unlike most elbow techniques which hit across the target, this technique requires the user to pull the elbow back quickly after striking in preparation for another blow; this make the technique faster and easier to use in combination with other techniques, but drops some of the power from the hit.

†L-Hook(Wing Chun)
Type: D Ranked Taijutsu
Description: A very fast strike used when in close proximity to the opponent. The user forms a 90 degree angle with his/her arm swinging it at the opponent with the same motion as they would an elbow strike, but impacting the target’s shoulder or head with the fist instead. This unique angle is very powerful as it has the entire strength of the forearm to support it.

His opponent was indeed finished off by the punch-elbow combination. He rolled over on the floor holding his broken face, blood pissing from his nose as if it were a fountain. The day was almost over. Now all he had to do was find the final thief and give him a good talking to, with his fists if he preferred it.

Yume sighed, relieved that he'd managed to finish off his opponent. It had been a rough endeavor. Yume believed that any battle no matter how brief was a bit frightening. Being afraid was simply something that shinobi had to deal with on a daily basis. He sent another punch into the fallen man's temple. Rope; he was going to start carrying rope on these things so he didn't have to bash targets into a coma to subdue them.

He was sure there was supposed to be one more thief in this area. He was late. Yume slipped into the shadows of a nearby alley to wait. perhaps he could use the other two men as bait.

The last thief walked into the area. Took a look at each of the bodies passed out on the ground and wet himself. He fell to his knees in the puddle of his own piss and stared at the sky crying. He had staked everything on this plot, and now it was doomed to failure. He took out his knife and cut his own throat, there was nothing that Yume could do except get splattered with the man's blood as it fountained into the air, causing a brief rain of blood.

The thief's plot had been thwarted. There would be one less underground-society for Kumogakure to worry about now.
