An awful lot of running

Kae sighed. As he approached the training fields, he stretched out his long arms and his neck. They say it's spring, but the training grounds are filled with puddles and muddy holes. This is gonna be a tough training session. Only the ones fully commited to training and improving, only the jounin of Kirigakure are still doing pushups with their palms buried deeply in the mud, and their noses touching the tips of the vegetation. Kae didn't mind getting dirty, but it seemed unconventional to start doing pushups in the middle of mud. Well, too late. As soon as he stepped inside the gates, his left foot splashed into a deep puddle.

Kae sighed. As he took a few more steps to the center of the training field, he remembered that he's not gonna be alone this time. Apparently, he's soon getting a teammate. Akio something was his name, and Kae was normally excited by it. Looking around to see if he's here, he decided to wait for himself. Climbing on top the one of three trees in the center of the field, he lied down on the branch and waited for the sun to come out of the clouds and his teammate to come forth from the gates

Akio was rather keen to maintain and, where possible, improve his skills and physical abilities. Today he had a special reason for going to the training field, despite the rather unfavourable conditions Akio didn't even batter an eyelid. The training field could be completely flooded, and he would still try and find a way in which to train, it was just who he was, so long as there was a way, there was a will in which to do it.

When Akio entered the playing field he looked around for a fellow genin, he had been given a vague description of what his team mate looked like. It wasn't much to go on, but looking around on the ground he couldn't see anybody who matched the description. He sighed to himself, why was it always his partners who turned up late to these things? He looked up to the sky as the heavens started to open up slightly with rain dripping on his face. It was when he looked up that he saw who he was looking for, he shielded his mouth as he shouted up "Kaemon I presume, how about we get right to business and see what each other is made of, I presume you're ready for a good punch up" no point beating about the bush, if they were to work together properly they had to know how each other fought.

Kae twitched his eyebrows as he heard his name. Is someone actually calling him by his full name, other than his mother? Is he in trouble? Sitting up, he saw a bulky genin, that looked just about bit younger than him, but much stronger. He looked like he was one of those Jounin that did push-ups in the mud.

"How about we get right to business and see what each other is made of, I presume you're ready for a good punch up" the kid asked. Kae jumped down from the tree. As mud splattered around his boots, he cleared his throat.

"Hey, would you introduce yourself?" he asked as he started stretching. Starting from his head, arms and elbows.

Akio chuckled briefly and replied "Well, I guess that would be a good start, the name's Kumaoro, Akio Kumaoro. You can make up a nickname if you like, it's quite a mouthful Kaemon" whilst this boy didn't seem the type to try a sneak attack, they were Kirigakure ninja's so he didn't offer a handshake just yet.

Akio clicked his back before looking up to Kaemon in the eye and carrying on with business "I presume you are fine with a standard spar, no rules except no killing, and the loser is the one who gives up first or knocked out. You can add other rules if you like" Akio was fine with it, even if it meant he was the one being knocked out, that is just the way things worked as far as he was concerned.

As he nodded, Kaemon jumped back for a few meters, extending the gap between the pair, which was now about 10 meters.

Taking a few deep breaths, Kaemon was getting ready to unleash all his strenght in one foolish blow. It did seem to be risky, but it was rather useful with his academy classmates.

Kae took a low stance, from which he started running, only extending his upper body to the height of his opponnent as he closed his right fist, and tried to release a punch in Akio's middle abdomen.

Akio smiled playfully as he stared down Kaemon, he wasn't going to make the first move that much was for certain, he was determined to win and he wasn't going to, willingly, make foolish mistakes.

He watched as Kaemon started running towards him, he noted his positing as well, at first he thought he had something up his sleeve but apparently not. Akio quickly formed a few hand seals when Kaemon was around six meters away and took a deep breath in. By the time he was finished Kaemon would be around two meters away. Akio would wait until Kaemon got a little bit closer before blowing out a bubble about the size of a human head, he was aiming it Kaemon's abdomen but with the way he was positioned it might catch his head.

Providing it hit, Akio would charge forwards and attempt to launch a right flying knee towards Kaemon's chin before attempting to jumping away to safety.

"I'm gonna wreck this..." Kae thought as he approached Akio, several seconds before unleashing his punch. "Handseals, damn, that's never a good sign" he thought, but too late. He felt a powerful blow to his abdomen, which repeled him powerfully, at least a few meters back. In mid-air, Kae also felt a strong blow on his chin, which extended his flight for a few meters more.

The loud thud was heard, and Kae silently fell in the mud, which luckily, softened his fall. A big hole, exposing most of his abdomen was, where his shirt used to be.

"That was good, that was good" he preached as he rolled over to his stomach, and stood up with nothing but he strenght of his arms, that jumped him back into an almost normal condition. He was still a bit dizzy, so he took a few deep breaths before turning around to Akio.
"Why don't you come at me this time?" he asked, as he held his guard up.

Akio giggled as Kaemon fell into the dirt and shouted after his partner "How does the dirt taste? Apparently it's as bad as academy rations. You should be more careful anyway, if this was a real fight you would be dead by now" despite his harsh words he waited patiently for Kaemon to get his breath, he would learn nothing he he decimated his partner like he probably could now whilst he was dazed.

Kaemon asked if he could come at him this time, it was fair enough and Akio nodded. He walked slowly towards Kaemon, there was no use running the whole way so he was taking his time. He would continue simply walking until he was three meters away. At this point he would break out a burst of speed, sprinting forwards and attempting to land two swift left body hooks towards Kaemon's liver. Providing these hit their mark Akio would attempt to follow up with a high kick with his right leg, aiming to nail Kaemon's ear to mess with his balance.

As Akio approached him, Kaemon remembered to mimic his strategy, as he started doing handseals, hoping that he'd run into his trap.

As channeled chakra, Kaemon strongly felt the blows he received from Akio, but it wasn't at all painful, it was just something his jutsu helped him endure.

"Tell me when you're done, okay?" he closed both his eyes in an effort to keep this jutsu going on for as long as he could without his blood vessels exploding.

Akio was quite surprised Kaemon took his blows so well, there was something going on he knew but he had no idea what. He did know one thing though, there were a few places that would defiantly hurt. He separated his index and middle finger on his left hand and opened his right hand.

He then made two attacks at the same time, he attempted to poke Kaemon's eyes out with his left hand and made a grab at Kaemon's crotch and attempted to viciously twist it, digging his nails in as he did it. He would retract his left hand but keep up his other attack, launching a left knee at Kaemon's liver once again. Akio didn't see anything wrong with targeting weak points, if you're going to leave yourself open it should be expected in Akio's eyes.

God damn it! This Akio guy went right through his guard again. As he god furiously mad, he stopped concentrating chakra, making Akio's attack even more painful.

"What... the hell" he started yelling as he pounded Akio on the head, off from the grip of his balls, "...is wrong with you?! he yelled it out as he collected all his strenght, and jumped onto Akio's body, attempting to slam his elbow on Akio's trapezius.

Akio didn't exactly want to go there, but it was the only option he had and it was highly effective, he knew that much. However, Kaemon still had the sense to attack and he had a lot of power in him, the hit actually shocked Akio and forced him to release his vice like grip on Kaemon's bollocks.

The elbow which came next forced Akio off balance and he knew he was going to fall, he wasn't going to go down alone though. He would attempt to grab Kaemon's shoulders as he was falling back and if he managed to grab Kaemon and start him falling, Akio would attempt to use his knee to strike Kaemon's abdomen whilst attempting to throw him forwards in the direction Akio was falling. If it worked kaemon would be on a collision course with a tree but Akio would have landed awkwardly to carry out the move and he would be slightly dazed on the ground (back down) and it would take him a few seconds to get up.

Still a bit dizzy from the last few blows he received, Kae was barely standing when he watched his oponnent fall down. He was just about to smile and proclaim a draw, but Akio didn't seem to give up just yet. He liked that. Akio grabbed him, and Kae had no strenght left to even step back or to push himself away from the guy. He saw Akio attempting to kick him with his knee, and he flexed his stomach muscles, making the strike not as painful.

Kae was surprised with he amount of strength Akio had, as he successfully threw him into a tree, that Kae met face-first.

As he turned around to see Akio in an awkward position, Kae saw his chance. He withdrew a 4 shuriken, 2 in each hands, and stood in a position where he let Akio know that he wouldn't hesitate to throw them, if he moved.

"You're down on your luck, it seems" he said as both his arms shaked a bit.

Akio was half up when Kaemon drew his shuriken and Akio smiled, staying perfectly still but replying "Heh, you're the one who seems fairly down on luck, you're not looking too good, I'm in near perfect condition" it was true, Kaemon had taken a beating, Akio just lost his balance once and had a dull pain on his shoulder and face but that's it.

Akio smiled coyly and sprang upwards, using the strength in his legs, as he started to kick off he would draw his wakizashi so if Kaemon was still able to throw accurately he would have some form of defence.

Kaemon really wanted to launch those shuriken. He was almost sure Akio'd get hit, so he just sighed and threw all of his shuriken into the ground, out of anger.

"Well, we've obviously taken things too far, don't you think?" he said loudly, irritated of how self-confident Akio was. Kaemon was a risk-taker himself, but he was sure Akio doesn't have a long life infront of him if he's gonna take chances like these.

He landed carefully and looked over to Kaemon and said "We did agree on standard rules, anything goes but no killing, just like in the academy. If you think it's gone far enough we can end it though, just pick up your gear and put it away. We can head to my place to get some food if you like" In Akio's mind, Kaemon was giving up because he couldn't take any more but part of his brain was aware that maybe he wasn't as hardcore as Akio was. As long as nobody lost a limb or died, Akio was fine with most things in a spar.

He couldn't help but chuckle to himself and he jokingly asked "So, how's your bollocks? Still burning?" He remembered Kaemon didn't appreciate his attack so he figured why not make a joke of it.

Food. That's the only thing Kae heard from Akio's speech. And it was enough for him. He started following Akio, like a hungry pup that was following his master. Then Akio reminded him of their little scrotum incident.

"Good to know you're not afraid to go there" he laughed "I hope it's going to be useful in combat. It's gonna be good fighting side by side with you" he gave him a comforting, friendly wink, while adjusting his scrotum with his right hand, and making up a painful grimase to go with it.

Akio couldn't help but laugh at what Kaemon said as he began to deal with his "injury" and Akio couldn't help himself, he had to tease "It should be hurting any more, there wasn't much to hurt to be honest, anyway, just keep up" it was a fair warning but taking Kaemon's injured condition, he didn't start running at anywhere near his top speed, he set off at half his speed. His apartment wasn't far away, only four minutes at his current speed in fact. When they did get there Kaemon would notice his tower was very generic but Akio was fortunate enough to live only on the fourth floor.

As they were approaching Akio's flat, Kae was starving.

"I hope you're a good cook, friend. We need something good to recover from this one" he smiled, still walking with a wide stance.

"You think we're gonna get a mentor or something?" he asked, hoping that the answer will be yes, that the next time they spar, there will be someone to stop Akio from ripping out his wiener.

It seems Akio's teasing didn't even get a reaction, that was just plain rude, Akio went to the effort of teasing him so he could at least be angry or insulted. Apparently not though and he was mildly irked as he approached his flat. He stuck the key in the door to show a somewhat messy, but functional room which was around 20mx20m and had a bed at the far side of the room, a coffee table in the middle and a kitchenette in one corner, there were various magazines and pot meals dodded about the place and there was only one other door in the room leading to the toilet and shower.

Akio threw his keys on the side and said "Make yourself at home Kae, I've got pot noodles or I've got rice and eggs. Take your pick. As for the tutor thing, I don't know, it would be nice but we can handle ourselves and get stronger on our own for the village if needs be" he did actually have some sweets but he was saving them for his parents when they came to visit. Before he did anything else he looked over his shoulder and saw he was covered in mud. He took his shirt off and threw it in a wash basket before making his way over to his clothes, he picked out a random pair of shorts and a shirt then kicked off his sandals. He made his way into the shower room and shouted through "Feel free to use the kitchen, I'm going to get this mud off myself save it drying and itching" As he started the shower he shouted through again and said "So, how're you holding up? In all seriousness you were beat up quite a bit, I imagine your face is a bit mashed and I guess your abdomen is sore. I won't ask about that other bit, there wasn't much to hurt so it should be fine, probably" he was genuinely concerned about the answer, but he couldn't help but try and tease again.

As they entered Akio's apartment, Kae smiled, as it reminded him of his childhood home. The simplicity of it, the nonchalantly set furniture, oh yeah, a home of a dysfunctional family. Or, a bachelor flat, Kae liked the second description better. It was an apartment that definitely suited Akio's personality.

"Thanks" he bowed to his new friend as he told him to make himself at home. It won't be that hard. As Akio left to take off his clothes, Kae noticed he was quite a bit covered in dirt. His right lower-leg was completely covered in it, and as for his back, he looked like he's been out training for a whole day. As he heard Akio inviting him to use the kitchen, Kae stepped back from him, remembering all of his pancake incidents from way back. At his home, he's banned from the kitchen. He decided to leave the cooking for Akio.

Taking a short walk, or a tour, along the apartment, Kae decided to wait for his teammate. Akio decided to tease him a bit and repeated a comment from before, that Kae pretended he didn't hear.

"You do realize that we're gonna spar again?" he said loudly, but with a slight chuckle. He didn't want to sound over confident, since Akio was clearly having the upper hand in that category.

Akio couldn't help but laugh as he set to work scrubbing the mud off himself quite throughly and replied in an equally loud voice "Yes, well I wouldn't sound too cocky if I were you. Remember that jutsu that blew a hole in your shirt and sent you flying? I've got one with three times the boom, you haven't even seen the tip of my taijutsu skills either, not to mention me with the wakizashi. Although, I guess you're stronger than hou seemed, you just got caught off guard a lot" he was working incredibly quickly so by the time he'd finished speaking he was cleaned, well rinsed.

He toweled down before slipping into his clothes and heading straight towards the kitchenette, commenting as he did "Feel free to use the shower, you look like you've been dragged backwards through a swap and trampled on by an angry bullock, just don't use too much soap" he smiled to himself at the bullock comment, a bullock was a castrated bull, he wondered if Kaemon would notice. Well, regardless, he would start boiling some rice for the pair, rice was nice because it's rice.

"Hey." this time he seemed more confident and clear in his arrogance. "You can be sure in one thing, the next time the two of us fight, I'll be a worthy opponent" he said. Though, he couldn't but giggle at Akio's bullock comment, and nodded at his offer to use his shower.
"Thanks, again" he thanked him in that same, friendly tone from before. Stepping into the bathroom and closing the door, he got rid of his clothes and stepped into a warm shower.

Akio smiled, this time coyly and commented in a voice, just loud enough so Kaemon could hear "I'll hold you to that, if you get your arse kicked next time you're going to be knocked out" he was quite annoyed he didn't get to do it earlier, but he didn't want to get of on a bad foot given they were going to work together.

He figured he probably could work with Kaemon, he was grounded enough to laugh at the bullock joke so he probably didn't have any grudges. He'd started the rice off boiling so he figured he could leave it for a minute, he rummaged around by his bed to find some fresh clothes. He figured Kaemon wouldn't have a spare pair of clothes and he wouldn't want to clean the clothes and walk around in a wet pair so he might as well lend him some.

Akio knocked on the door and shouted in "Fresh pair of clothes by the door, they should fit, you're taller but you're as skinny as a streak of piss, compared to me at least. Just tuck it in the shorts and you'll be fine" it was a crude description, but one Akio felt fit. He figured he should probably get back to the rice to keep an eye on it.

Kae didn't even think of where he's going to put his dirty clothes, so Akio's invitation to use his reminded him of it. He felt a bit awkward, but for the sake of bonding with his teammate, the more time they spend together - the better. He remembered how funny is that he met this guy just a half an hour ago and he's already in his shower, and about to wear his clothes. But, he will be this guys partner, he'll possibly die by his side or get rescued by him. He wondered about the future with Akio. He does seem like a confident fellow, but do they really fit? Kaemon liked to think of himself as adjustable, flexible and tolerant, which is why he could probably be working with anyone. The only thing he worried about is their physical predispositions, do they fit well? Would they be friends? What is true strength? Is there life after death? What are numbers?

Kae would go on and on for ever in his philosophical thinking, but the water changed from comfortably warm to fuck-this-is-cold. Thinking that it was quite rude of him to spend all of his hot water for the day, Kae stepped out of the shower and dried himself off. Looking at his growing body in the mirror, he winked at himself and put on Akio's clothes. He looked confusing. He stepped out of the bathroom and hoped he won't be laughed at.

The rice was ready before Kaemon was out of the shower, he sure did take his time when he was showering. Then again, he did take a beating so he was probably trying to ease the pain from the injuries so he didn't mind. He was just about to serve the rice when he heard a very distinctive sound, the pipes always made a weird noise when somebody used up all the hot water, the fact that the water pressure changed made it completely obvious what had happened. In all honesty Akio wasn't bothered about it, he wasn't going to wash again till tomorrow and he could always heat some water on the stove if he ever did need hot water for whatever reason. He wasn't going to let Kaemon know this though, and he saw the perfect opportunity for a joke of sorts.

Akio moved behind the shower door, there was enough space to hide behind so he wasn't hit by the door as it opened. As soon as the door was shut Akio burst forwards at full speed and attempted to put Kaemon in a relatively friendly, but still somewhat rough, headlock with his left arm. He would also attempt to give Kaemon a light noogie as he said "Oy, you been using my fancy soap and hot water?" he was doing a very bad impression of a generic gangster but Akio thought he was hilarious.

As he stepped out of the bathroom, Kae was surprised with something that he didn't realize was a joke at first. With his normal ninja instincts, he stopped himself from doing any violent moves and tried to be calm.

"Hey, I'm sorry, I..." he started to apologize when Akio asked him about the soap and the water, but when the noogie came in, Kae started making uncomfortable noises and tried to step out of the headlock.

Akio couldn't help but giggle at Kaemon's reaction and released him saying "It's fine Kaemon, if I was really mad I would have kicked you in the face as soon as you opened the door, just relax" in all honesty, he expected quite a few reactions, but an apology certainly wasn't one.

He moved over to the rice and handed a bowl over to Kaemon before getting a little serious "If we're going to work together you need to learn to trust me, I joke around and prat about but I'd never hurt my team mate outside of a sparring match unless you did something to really piss me off. If it helps think of it this way, what's mine is yours and what is yours is mine. We're working as a unit, we are one entity working for the village" like all Kiri ninja, Akio was very focused on the village but he was also concerned about getting a good working relationship going, it helps if you can be friends with your workmates.

Kaemon was rather relieved when he found out that Akio was indeed joking. So, he didn't have anger issues. Altough, the comment about kicking him in the face made him a bit uneasy.

As he sat down, he bowed before accepting the bowl of rice and started eating. He listened to Akio's short speech and agreed, letting Akio known by nodding the whole time.

"Glad you..." Kaemon let out a slight burp "...think so. And, you're a great cook, Akio!" he laughed as he looked at his empty bowl. He stood up from the table and bowed once more.

"Thanks for having me, friend. Maybe we can eat at my place the next time we train... I'll let you use all my hot water!" he said with a non-stop smile.

Akio was relieved to see his partner nodding along, it was good to see a respectable kiri ninja, even if he was a little quite to say sorry to save himself from a beating. Akio wasn't quite sure if Kaemon was just trying to get on his good side, or if he was being honest about the food, if he was being honest he was very easy to please, it also made Akio quite nevous because if he thinks this is good, his own food is probably worse.

Needless to say Akio was quite nervous when Kaemon offered to eat at his place next time they train, nevertheless Akio nodded and said "Yeh, we can train tomorrow if you like, I just hope you kick up your game, I won't stop my attacks just because you give up next time. Oh, and about the hot water, you might regret making that offer" he winked at the end so Kaemon would think it's a joke, it wasn't though, he was going to use all of Kaemon's hot water for the day.
