Family Ties
Training #1: Jutsu
The wind whistled lightly through the grass, as Katsurama arrived at the training field that morning. He realized that he had grown lax in his training as of late, so focused as he was on completing missions and taking care of his family. Now, that was something that would have to change, and so he had decided that he would spend the day learning some new techniques.
He had borrowed a scroll from the Senju library and as he arrived, looked at the instructions for the first of the Jutsu that he had decided to learn that day. A Mokuton Clone… IT shouldn’t be as difficult as the Shadow clone, but how can I know for sure until I try. He took a quick glance at the hand seals needed for the Jutsu and began running through them slowly. Boar. Ox. Monkey. Tiger… Simple enough of a combination I suppose.
His first attempt did not go nearly as he might have hoped, however. When he ran through the hand seals for the second time, this time molding his chakra into what was supposed to form a basic clone as he did so, all that he managed to create was a lump of soft wood. What the hell… Obviously he had put far too much suiton chakra into the mix as he ran through the Jutsu, which was a surprise for the young man. He used an equal measure of doton and suiton in most of his Jutsu and they seemed to work well enough. I guess it’s different with clones then…
He moved his failed attempt to one side, before forming the necessary hand seals once more, this time making sure to limit the amount of suiton chakra that he out into the Jutsu. Boar He began to mold his doton chakra, keeping his suiton from being molded for the moment. Ox The molded chakra began to feel far too heavy for his liking, as if he were already failing in his second attempt at the Jutsu, but he still refused to begin molding the suiton chakra just yet. There would be time for that later. Monkey As if he was opening a floodgate, the young man allowed himself to begin molding the suiton chakra that would be necessary for the jutsu. Suddenly the mixture began to feel more natural within him Tiger! He moved his hands apart, and started willing the Mokuton that he had created to form a copy of himself in front of him. The being stood motionless and looked straight back at its creator.
”Bunshin, spar with me.” It was the young man’s first thought with what to do in order to test the success of the Jutsu, and before he knew it the clone had pulled out a kunai and was lunging towards him. He spun to the side, before lodging his blade in the entity’s back. Good, it works then…. He thought to himself, as the jutsu collapsed.

Family Ties
Training #2: Jutsu
The young man had enjoyed a promising start, that was for sure, but he had far more to do before he would be satisfied with his progress that day. It was far from enough to learn only a single basic Jutsu, especially after he had already looked over what he would need to train himself to use before he had even arrived at the field. He picked up his scroll once more, looking for the next Jutsu that he planned to use. This one was a truly simple one, something that many Senju had mastered in the past.
He formed the short series of hand seals that he had learned moments ago and formed an immaculate copy of himself, not only did using the Jutsu reaffirm that he had managed to learn the technique, but now he would have a target on which he could practice. He took a few steps away from the clone remained in the spot that it had been created. Ok... Now for the Jutsu itself. Katsurama took another look at the hand seals that he would need in order to perform the Jutsu, before he made his first attempt.
Dog. Ox. Rat. Dragon. He thought through each seal in his mind as he performed the Jutsu, focusing on ensuring that the right mix of Suiton and Doton chakra went into the attempt. A single root sproated at the man's feet once he had performed the Jutsu, and it began to make it's way towards his mock opponent. Perfect.
Then the root impaled the clone, running straight through his chest.
Katsurama sighed. "Of course it won't be that simple." He said to himself as he ran through the Mokuton clone hand seals once again. Once the clone was in place, Katsurama took a second to think through the Jutsu in his mind. It looks like I need to put more control into this, otherwise the root is just going to do whatever it wants won't it? He thought he knew how to solve the problem, so he moved on to thinking through the hand seals that he would need once more. Dog to begin the process of molding his chakra, ox to escallate the growth of the root, rat to give it speed, and dragon to give it strength. Katsurama did nothing for a second, before he performed the hand seals for a second time.
Dog. Ox. Rat. Dragon. Bird! He had added a 5th seal onto the Jutsu, hoping that it would enable him to more easily control the root that he had created. Sure enough, his attempt was a success, and seconds later his copy lay at his feet, still not making a single move in its defense. I'll have to work on that one again later and get rid of the 5th seal, but for now that's a good enough job for me.

~Mokuton • Sprouting Roots
D-Rank Ninjutsu
By performing the correct hand seals, the user will cause a root to sprout out of the ground at their feet before lashing out at a target's feet up to 7 meters away at a speed of 6. If successful, the root will pull their feet out from under them at a strength of 4 and attempt to rapidly drag them back towards the user. If the targets strength is higher, the technique will fail.
