Why do pyramids matter after being accepted?

Post by CDF » Mon Jan 30, 2017 2:53 pm

The reason we have pyramids is because logic and we don't want anybody starting off with 56 free A-ranks and S-ranks. However, once they're accepted, they shouldn't matter.

The IC logic reasoning behind pyramids is you need a strong foundation to move higher up, which is definitely sensible. Thing is, once you've done that, you shouldn't hve to learn 2 B and 1 A rank jutsu for every s-rank you want to get after. It makes no IC sense.

As for OOC balance, it also doesn't do anything there. If people want to spend points on 30 s-rank jutsu and have only 5 b-ranks, power to you. IT's a strategy that isn't inherantly better or more powerful than having a more stable pyramid, because moderate-ranked jutsu are important and less stamina draining.

So yea, I don't get it

I can agree with this sentiment.

If we're going to make point expenditure the balancing mechanism here, I feel like it would make more sense to scale back pyramid requirements and just make higher rank jutsu more expensive.

All the current system does is make users spend tons of points cluttering their apps with jutsu they'll probably never use just so they can support their pyramids. Cutting back pyramid requirements and increasing the cost of A/S rank jutsu (it could even be done in a way that the final math is more or less the same), would be more efficient for members (creating less jutsu, less cluttered apps) and mod staff (less jutsu to check).

We already made pyramids really sensible in that you only need 5D's and 5C's, which you can use for utility jutsu, everything B+ you can still use for combat at endgame and remain fairly relevant. I don't see a problem with it, and would rather we didn't just increase prices on jutsu, because we already did that and I hated it. :l

omg please no increasing prices lol

it's as simple as making it no neccesary once it's been accepted or adding something for B, A and S-ranks like we have for D and C.

The problem is it's costly, doesn't balance anything which makes it unneccessary and it makes no sense. Trifecta of no thanks.

Totally fair. But I'm not okay with just removing pyramids requirements post-reg straight up, as that would make it okay for someone with B's at reg to add S's afterwards. So just requiring a minimum of a 2S pyramid (or something similar) to get to ignore pyramids would be fine by me.

It's terrible, I'd rather build B-S pyramids than have to make 10 D and C ranks.

Yeah, I can support all 5's. Like I said on the cbox, if someone wants to buy nothing but S-rank jutsu and leave themselves with little to no utility, that's their fault.
