Just an idea that I thought of in chat whilst discussing with Talto the rules on riding a companion or something else.
I was thinking that it might be possible for riding to have a stat debuff system added to it like if you have 35 speed and ride a 40 speed companion, then I figured it might be a neat idea that you can get a stat debuff to go higher than your speed and have like -5 taijutsu or -5 wit whilst riding at 40 speed.
I dunno if that works and maybe it's not enough because the companion is putting in the extra work but you're getting the debuff but maybe debuffs could be a bit exponential or be something like 2 stats at once?
So instead of riding a 40 speed companion and getting -5, you could get -10 or maybe you need to have -5 in both tai and wit.
Tai and wit would be the most obvious since you're moving faster than you can usually move and have so disorientation and all that that would make those skills worse.
In the end it would be similar to a speed buff jutsu but compensating for riding a faster companion instead.

I'm +1 for this idea, personally. It makes sense from an IC perspective, it's relatively balanced (meaning you can't just be at 1 speed and have a 50 speed companion, which was the cause for the creation of that rule in the first place.), and it really doesn't break any existing systems. We already allow you to debuff companions in order to buff yourself, and this is essentially a riding companion being a passive buff jutsu for you.

Eh, the debuff shouldn't be so severe because in later stages those -5 becomes HUGE, I mean 45 to 50 is nowhere near 1 to 5

That's how stat buffing has always worked kit. A stat boost that puts you at -5 nin and +5 str still takes full effect if you're at 50 nin and 1 str.

Gunshanks:True, but something as simple as riding a companion shouldn't take away that much.Sat Feb 04, 2017 7:02 pmThat's how stat buffing has always worked kit. A stat boost that puts you at -5 nin and +5 str still takes full effect if you're at 50 nin and 1 str.

Due to a rule about the balance of ridable companions already existing, and this thread being fairly old, I'm closing this down for the sake of cleanliness.
