It had been a while since the war had succumbed and the nation had been unified- not under a Daimyo, but under an elected leader the Raikage. With such a monumental change of course came dissonance among the people. Those who had fought each other to death just a year before were once more neighbors- so it was natural to expect wounds would take longer to close. Still however, the nation had been moving forward at a rapid pace. Kumogakure had pushed it's fuuinjutsu technology out to the masses, deployed shinobi all over the country in outposts. This had allowed buildings to rapidly be constructed, and infrastructure to advance in the country side. Things like refrigeration, once upon a time known only to ninja villages, now found it's way into the most rural corners. Clinics dotted main towns allowing people to gain medical treatment.

This was all a show of the Raikage's commitment to his fellow man. Likewise, on his orders, Inyo had made his way to the north for a special occasion. Today would be a show of the united peoples powers. The founding of the second academy. Today, in the far north, they would break ground and begin the construction of the Daini Kokuritsu Shinobi Gakuen. Only the absolute best and brightest would gain entry- even some from Kumogakure would be sent to fill the ranks.

While not a shinobi, the Shishi were loyal to Kumogakure, and as such, along with many Chuunin and Genin Inyo was sent to aid in the construction of the new academy.

He had to wonder, just who would he meet in this experience?

¨Oooph..¨, Tategami Susen muttered under his breath as he wiped the sweat from his brow. He had been hauling thick wooden bars all morning, picking them up from the depot and delivering them to the carpenters. Susen didn´t know much about carpenting, like most of the Genin and Chuunin who were currently volunteering, so he and the other shinobi did most of the heavy lifting. Their enhanced physical abilities made them good for that, at least.

Something Susen could do was read people. The atmosphere was tense. He had felt it before. Everytime there was an infight in the Tategami compound, the tension was almost palpable. The Tategami were stoic and didn´t pick fights quickly. But every once in a while, there would be a serious disagreement between influential members, turning entire branches of the family against each other. The last time this happened was right after the Tategami hadn´t escaped the great ¨unifying¨ of the lightning country. Some of the Tategami would have fought to the last man rather than surrender.

The clan head had only narrowly been able to avoid a voilent rebellion.

As for Susen, he did what any kid would. He stuck with his parents. Luckily for him, they realized the Tategami had to adapt in order to survive. That being said, mistrust kurewas everywhere. In between members of the Tategami, towards Kumogakure and in this very village itself. Cliques gathered during breaks, mistrusting glances were frequently exchanged in between people from formerly rivalling kingdoms. No insults or threats were made.

Yet.

Susen himself was left mostly alone. As the sole Tategami at the site, he had no friends nor enemies. The Tategami always tended to themselves and shunned all outsiders. And Susen was treated as such: mistrusted, but left to his own devices mostly. The Genin didn´t mind. He was comfortable in the background. Just observing the tension. Observing and memorizing...

Inyo had been walking through the town for sometime, progressively coming across more traffic until finally he reached an open square. Inyo looked around. Workers on break- mostly those of the village, sat on the ground nearby a construction site. An elaborate and massive building was being built in the center. The outskirts of the building however were done- various buildings and a gate surrounding it. The completed buildings were dormitories, and hosted a plethora of young hopefuls- some would train to become shinobi, some chakra tradesmen, some simply the best and brightest civil servants the Lightning Country could train. Until the completion of Daini Kokuritsu Shinobi Gakuen, there would be no class, but many had already arrived.

Inyo saw a young man carrying a rather heavy load, sweat rolling off his brow. He was hear to help under Raikage's orders, and in the noble spirit of the lion he was trained in, his heart told him to help. He would set his stuff down and come up to the boy, grabbing the other end and propping himself under it.

"I can see by the forehead protector your a Genin- so you're also assigned to the construction project, aren't you?" he said as he pushed up. Any in the Lightning Country who knew of the Shishi clan of warriors would know that his actions were very normal for the altruistic warrior group.

"With all those high-ranking shinobi I don't know why they don't just make a giant doton slab and carve it out."

Susen was roused from his thought by a man approaching him, dropping his own load and propping himself under the other end of Susen´s load. The Genin´s first instinct was to tell the guy that he didn´t need any help, but he had been carrying weight all day. The relief on his shoulders was very welcome, so instead of complaining he muttered a quick "Thanks. Yeah, I arrived a few days ago." The fact that he was concerned with appearing weak in front of all the other workers was a strong indication of how uncomfortable everyone was with each other´s presence.

Still, his new companion seemed very eager to help, despite the situation. His voice appeared to Susen as cheerful and energetic. He didn´t seem bothered at all. Susen wasn´t sure what to make of this. His family had kept to themselves for years. The rules, lifestyles and cultures of anyone beyond the northern wastes of the country were strange to the Tategami. As one of the first batch of shinobi sent to the newly founded Kumogakure no Sato in order to coöperate with the very people they defended their turf from years prior, Susen felt like a fish out of water. He listened to the man suggesting the use of an earth technique to make the construction easier. Was this a joke, or an actual suggestion? The use of ninjutsu that could also be used to kill one another for coöperation required a certain degree of trust. At least in Susen´s mind, no one here trusted each other enough to allow for that.

"Great idea. Big flashy ninjutsu. That´ll make these guys feel much more comfortable.", Susen joked. He chuckled, than quickly realized how grim that comment made him look. "Sorry. That sounded very pessimistic, right?" At this moment, the two strangers had arrived at the head carpenter of the construction, a heavy-built man who towered over Susen by almost two feet. "That one needs to go to Kimaru over at the cafeteria, he´ll know what to do with it." Susen nodded. The cafereria was one of the last buildings to be created, with it being little more than a skeleton of bars and isolating materials at this point. Its location was also in the very corner of the construction site, a good walk away from their current position. "Looks like I owe you one.", told his new companion.

All those squats and core exercises had paid off, and for a moment, Inyo felt thankful for his father and the Shishi's rather intense training regiment. That said, the other boy seemed more than strong enough to carry the wait. Inyo knew that, but he also knew this was an opportunity to make bonds. Beyond military training, Shishi trained quite a bit in diplomacy and Inyo knew that if he was to succeed in these new foreign lands he would need to form a Pride. Inyo smiled kindly. "So you're as new as me here!". It seemed like everyone was, given the atmosphere.

The two redirected their efforts to moving the wood to the place the older man told them too- it would be an easy task with their combined strength. Before long, they'd make it to the spot and set it down, freeing the boys up. It seemed Susen was not so comfortable around Ninjutsu or shinobi in general. As a warrior from a non-shinobi family, Inyo could slightly understand.

Inyo looked around a bit at the barren shell of a building that would some day become a cafeteria that would serve generations of students. "Well, there is plenty of jutsu made for making homes, shelters, domes and stuff. And we're all going to have to get used to jutsu- there'll be plenty at this academy." Inyo said as he began to stretch, rotating his shoulders.

"Shishi Inyo, by the way." Inyo said as he bowed full rei.

One of the heads at the cafeteria build sight walked on over.

"You two any good with tools and heights? One of the carpenters took a nasty fall and we're gunna fall behind schedule at this rate."

Susen nodded at his companion´s comment about the jutsu. He wondered if this strangely upbeat man wasn´t aware of the high tension or was simply ignoring it. The two had arrived at the cafeteria area and put down the wooden bar that they were carrying. The man then introduced himself als Shishi Inyo. Susen noticed the courtious bow and smiled. While he still felt tense, something about this man´s friendliness put the Genin at ease. He decided to return the bow.

"Tategami Susen."

He was used to his family name evoking a wide range of reactions, from mistrust to curiosity. While Susen knew very little of the clans of Kumogakure no Sato, the Tategami had a bit of an odd reputation. Little more than a year ago the Tategami were solitary hunters who lived isolated from the rest of the country and fiercely defended their turf from all strangers. Most clans seemed to have both friends and enemies stemming from the warring kingdoms. The Tategami were strangers to all.

"You two any good with tools and heights? One of the carpenters took a nasty fall and we're gunna fall behind schedule at this rate."

Susen looked up at Kimaru, a short man with round owl glasses. The Genin really wanted to help. More than anything, he wanted to make a good impression. If Susen gave the good example, maybe the other shinobi would feel more encouraged to start coöperating. "Heights won´t be a problem, but I´m not experienced at construction. I can use basic tools, though."

With formalities exchanged, the two young men were capable of putting things in the past and moving on their way. Inyo let out a sigh as his hand scratched the back of his head, just below his hairline, but not quite at the neck. Those who knew him well knew that motion was tell that he was unsure how to proceed, what to say, or what to do next. His lip furling he looked up only for one of the construction workers to pipe out to them again. The man was short and had round owl glasses- he seemed, if anyone here, to be a superior of some sorts. Maybe even an Architect.

Before Inyo could react, Tategami stepped up to the plate with an honest response, but one looking to help. Inyo couldn't help but bite his lip a little. He was a Shishi, and beyond that, The Lion. The idea that this boy stepped up before him could be thought of as embarrassing. Lion's were supposed to be brave, leaders of the pack after all.

"I am certainly good at heights and though not good with tools or construction, I have a lot of strength to hold things in place so someone good with tools can get the jobd one." Inyo said stepping forward too.

The two boys were a lot of a like, and in an innocent and malevolent way, for Inyo a rivalry was beginning to be born.

Susen was completely oblivious to Inyo´s frustration and embarassment for now. He merely nodded as the two were given further instructions. "Alright., the man said. "The top floor of the building needs, well, a ceiling" He pointed towards the top top of the building. A skeleton of bars, hinting at the shape of a pointed, triangular rooftop. The rafters were already in place, and the construction looked sturdy enough. "I need one of you two to go up there and place these wooden roof plates on there. The other one has to carry the plates up there.¨ The man pointed to a stack of plates and waved over to a scaffolding that gave the construction workers acces to the rooftop.

"Alright, I´ll get up there." Susen volunteered. He had been carrying stuff from point A to point B all day, so he was jumping at the opportunity to do something else. Variety was the spice of life after all. The Genin charged up to the building and, instead of using the scaffolding, hopped fluidly across the various protrusions of the building, landing on the roof with seemingly little effort.

"Well, thats a shinobi for ya. Even when they´re just kids, they´re already capable of amazing feats.", the man marveled. He then looked over to Inyo, sizing him up. "You good with carrying those plates up there?

Susen in the meantime took a moment to appreciate the view around him. From this height, he could see countless other buildings in the making. Hospitals, barracks, housing projects… new buildings were popping up in Kumogakure no Sato like daisies in a field. For Susen, who grew up in a secluded compound surrounded by high mountains, seeing so many manmade structures was amazing to say the least.

He then looked down at Inyo. "You sure you can handle carrying those things?" he asked with genuine concern.

Inyo was surprised at the initiative of the otherwise quiet and shy seeming boy. He was a natural born leader- even if he did not know it yet. His eyes tightened as once more the boy took charge and took the position of climbing to place the wooden roof plates. He was nimble and rather than utilizing chakra to stick to the walls, he used agility and athletics- like a gymnast of sorts until he was up at the roof- least the skeleton of it. Inyo grinned. For him, he had decided that this boy would be his rival. His lips moved as he mouthed his name.

Susen

Turning to the owl-like man and the workers he nodded. He was not quite that powerful, but his strength and agility definitely topped that of the average man. "No worries, I will be able to get the plates up there. Maybe not all at once but, I can do it." Turning his attention to the piles, he filled his arms up, then looked to the building. With the fresh rivalry in his head, Inyo lept for the protrusions of the buildings frame, and much like Susen, hopped his way up, hobbling a little when he reached the top but ultimately catching his balance. It was a tricky feat with full arms.

Inyo grinned.

"Right, let's lay these fast. The faster we finish the work, the more time to marvel!" he said, keen on the boys gaze at the wonders of man around them.
