Class 1A Training Session!

Post by TyDie » Sat Nov 16, 2019 3:51 pm

It'd been a few weeks since their first meeting, and while Ieyasu had taken the time to teach the class all kinds of simple stuff, it was getting past time for them to do some field training. All the theory and paperwork in the world couldn't prepare them for being out in the field, and after Yasu's recent issue involving the genma, he felt it was past time for some hands on experience. And so, Ieyasu had called the entire class out to a training area, about 60 meters in diameter, devoid of any notable features save for a few medium sized rocks. With the class standing before him, Roku stood proudly at his full, massive height, his arms crossed in front of him.

"Alright ya pups. You're all probably as sick of the paperwork as I am, so it's time for us to put some of those theories we spent time learning to use. Yasha." At his word, a taller boy with red hair and light skin took a step forward from the crowd of genin, a look of fire in his green eyes. "Yes, Roku-Sensei?" Ieyasu grinned at the young boy, who was no more than 5 meters or so away from him. "You're into Taijutsu right? Take a Kunai, come try to stab me." The boy looked shocked for a moment as Roku gave his instruction, but gulped and nodded as he retrieved a kunai from his pouch. "As you wish, Roku-Sensei. Here I come!"

The boy called out and lunged for the six fanged spider, yelling as he charged him... before his wrist was promptly snatched by one of Roku's many arms, yanking him foward and past the large man before another hand pushed down on his head. He'd bring the boy down on his stomach, holding the boy's wrist up and keeping the blade of the kunai away from Ieyasu. While Yasha struggled, Ieyasu looked to the class with a stern look. "Can anyone tell me what Yasha did wrong, class?" His eyes of course fell to the star students of his class; Ookurikara, Jun and Yasu.

Class 1A Training Session!

Ookuri was both excited and nervous to be out here, finally doing practical training for the first time. Back during his original stint through the academy in Kumo, he would have absolutely dreaded these portions, but now, at least, he had friends. Not only had he and Jun gotten closer, practically like siblings, over the course of their mission together, but Yasu was also there with him. She... She just made everything better when she was around. They hadn't really discussed how they would behave around each other while in class, so he left it to her to decide that. So long as she was there, and so long as she allowed him to be there with her, that was all that mattered.

The class looked on as Ieyasu chose a spry, young gentleman from among them to demonstrate his skill to him and everyone else. Ookuri wasn't inclined to Taijutsu himself, but even he could tell that the way Yasha was holding onto that kunai was all wrong. That wasn't even addressing the fact that, when Yasha tried to strike their teacher, he charged blindly forward. There was no attempt to wait for an opening, no consideration of his opponent's defenses. It was a blind, reckless assault, one doomed to fail from its advent.

"The most obvious thing is that he simply charged forward. He didn't take time to evaluate you or your stance for openings. He just put everything into a frontal assault instead of trying to consider his plan of action more carefully, hoping something would hit," Ookuri offered. There was more that he could expand upon, but he wanted to leave his classmates the opportunity to answer as well.

As the students had gathered around for Ieyasu's demonstration, Yasu had chosen to stand next to Ookuri. She wasn't sure how he felt about how they should behave in class, in truth she wasn't even sure how she should behave anyway. The two had grown closer, but Yasu wasn't entirely sure what that meant for her yet. As she stood beside him she found her hand brushed the back of his and she had to resist the urge to hold his hand, telling herself that it was a bad idea to do in class, especially with Ieyasu making very pointed looks at them. As Ieyasu asked the students to evaluate their companion's poor tactics, Yasu opened her mouth to answer but stopped as Ookuri suddenly spoke up. She blushed lightly, waiting for him to finish before speaking her piece.

"He attacked outright, he ignored that taijutsu is your strength, he announced his attack, goings so far as to yell the entire way." she counted off each complaint and shook her head as she spoke. "Honestly... I think I'd have an easier time listing what he didn't do wrong." Her words were harsh, but it was exactly how her mother had dealt with her when she made errors in dance, she had no reason to think she should speak any other way. In addition Ieyasu hadn't been all that much different, only difference was really that Ieyasu didn't resort to names the way her mother did sometimes. Though of course, her mother had never said them loud enough for others to hear.

"Taijutsu is your greatest strength. You told us that first day. We'd have better luck with Ninjutsu, in fact if I had to guess, Roku-Sensei, I'd guess our best bet would be Genjutsu."

"Not to mention that simply rushing an opponent so many times stronger than yourself without an actual strategy is tantamount to suicide." Jun piped up from Yasu's other side once both she and Ookuri had said their pieces, Jun every so often glancing at her two friends out of the corner of her eye. They had seemed to be getting awfully close as of late. Granted she and Ookuri had gotten rather close as well since their mission together but that was more like siblings, really she felt of him as a brother just as she felt of Yasu as a sister, while this was much more intimate. It didn't take a genius to figure out what was going on, and she was honestly very happy for them, though she had to wonder if the pair themselves knew at all what was going on. Perhaps they did and just weren't sure how to work it out or perhaps they were simply feeling shy around one another and didn't know why. If it was the latter, perhaps she would have to do her part to help push them together. But that was for later... Now it was lesson time!

"Even ranged taijutsu would work better than simply rushing in, because then at least we could in some ways have some sort of element surprise to take advantage of." she continued, having very much been paying full attention to what was going on around her despite her mind having been wandering a bit.

"That said, the best course of action in this case may have been simply to refuse to engage and pull a retreat. It may sound lazy or like the coward's way out but sometimes it's best to do nothing and simply bide your time."

The teacher grinned as one by one, his star pupils began to dissect Yasha's horrible method of attack. They were right in every aspect, though of course Ieyasu had told the boy to rush him with a knife; he had essentially set him up to fail on purpose as a means of showing them what a bad attack looked like. "Right, on all accounts. He rushed me, yelling as he did so; a clear indication of his incoming attack. And the way he held his weapon, out in front of him with such a weak grip... disarming him would've been easy for just about anyone. No offense Yasha; it's all about learning, of course." With a chuckle he'd help the boy back on to his feet, though of course Yasha's pride was clearly wounded as he walked back to the class with a huff.

"There'll be none of that huffiness either, Yasha. Pride has no place in education, you're here to learn. Be proud once you graduate... and even then, remember how to be humble. That goes for all of you." Roku turned stern for a moment as the boy's huff brought about a small amount of frustration. Seriously, even if they were genin by the village's standards, genin still had much to learn. If nothing else, he wanted them to understand how to recognize that there would always be something new to learn. With a small sigh to calm himself again, he'd reach into his ninja pouch to retrieve a kunai, holding it in one of his right hands with an underhanded grip.

"This would be the preferred method of wielding a Kunai, or any small knife of similar make. It's much harder to disarm someone, and also harder for someone else to turn the weapon against you. Brandishing a giant greatsword and swinging it haphazardly might work for some, but anyone with half a brain will see through the offensive onslaught and find their opening to take advantage of. If you're going to fight with a weapon like this, always make sure you maintain a solid defense. If this isn't your thing, and you're more of a ninjutsu or genjutsu user, make sure to develop techniques to protect yourself from these kinds of attacks. Barriers, pulses that push outward from you, or genjutsu that obscure your position from your opponent... your opponent is bound to be weak to one of them. Yasu had the right idea in fact, a Genjutsu would work quite well against me. I've never been one for them, Haha."

He rubbed the back of his head with a slight embarrassment, as even he didn't like to admit his own weaknesses. Nonetheless, if he was going to teach them to be humble, he'd have to be a role model. Putting the kunai awai, he'd cross all of his arms behind his back as he began to pace. "Alright, I suggest a little sparring for all of you. Specifically, I think everyone could do with a little physical exercise; keep the hand seals to a minimum, use your body. Oh, and try not to hurt each other too badly. I'm not a great medic." He let out a small laugh before beginning to step away, giving the kids of the class time to pair up. "Oh, and I know that I have an odd numbered of students here... One of you unlucky bastards will end up paired with me I guess."

As he spoke, he glared over his shoulder at the class, as many of them began to scramble for partners.

Class 1A Training Session!

Post by ShinobiTruth » Mon Dec 09, 2019 4:00 pm

Ookuri watched closely, listening to every word that left Ieyasu’a lips. He had to admit that he wasn’t certain how he felt about Ieyasu now that he knew of his position as Konegu’s handler. The thought that Yasu would be subjected to any sort of pain due to the creature that had been sealed inside of her was enough to instantly put the Arashiyama on edge. Still, Ieyasu was a jounin. Ookuri wasn’t about to step out of line due to something like personal beef. He still had things he could learn from this man, and learn he would, until he was strong enough to protect Yasu... and protect everyone.

Hayate had made it clear: the path to the Raikage’s seat was one that would be filled with adversity and strife. He could not allow himself to bend or break against the obstacles that stood in his way. When the jounin sensei announced sparring matches, Ookuri’s instinct was to pair up with Yasu, but he stopped himself. No... as much as he wanted to spend time with Yasu, he knew that, right now, at least, that wouldn’t be fair to either of them. It would feel like he was putting her on the spot, at least in his eyes. Yasu, Jin, and he himself were the three star students in this class, and people’s eyes would scrutinize them closely. Someone would put the pieces together. For Yasu’s sake, he had to deny himself what he wanted.

Nodding to Jun, giving her a knowing look, Ookuri stepped forward, stepping toward Ieyasu. Though the rest of the class ran from the notion, Ookuri was stepping into the flames, as it were. Grabbing two kunai in hand, he emulated the form that Ieyasu has shown them as he stood ready before his teacher. ”I am ready, Roku-sensei,” he stated, not giving anyone else the chance to take the opportunity.

Honestly, seeing Ieyasu being so hard on the other student, especially as the boy got huffy, was a great relief for Yasu. She trained with the man regularly and there were days where she felt singled out. It made her oddly happy to see him be just as hard on another student as he was on her. If anything he was being harder on the boy, calling him out in front of the entire class the way he did. Her mind was pulled away from these thoughts of course as Ieyasu went on to instruct them to pair off, and immediately she thought to pick Ookuri. But as she turned to say something he seemed to ignore her outright, instead exchanging a look with Jun and striding off towards Ieyasu. It left the girl confused, blinking a moment as she tried to process what just happened before her annoyance began to set in. She was still too naive to put to words what was bothering her, but if she were older she'd probably be thinking it was some kind of stupid dick measuring contest.

Sighing to herself she turned to Jun, trying to stifle her disappointment and annoyance. None of that was Jun's fault of course, she just hadn't expected to suddenly be ignored by the boy she was starting to have feelings for and it left her feeling a little deflated. Instead she tried to put a smile on her face as she turned to her friend. "Come on, Jun, let's show them you can do more than catch a nap." she teased, winking at the other girl.

Deep within the girl, unheard by anyone else, rumbled the voice of Konegu. 'It's for the best, child. You shouldn't be getting so involved with anyone just yet, especially not that boy.'
