The Big Pay Day

To an extent, the little kiosk just outside the large tournament arena seemed rather unassuming. But the direction had been clear, the villages had paid a fair amount for this event and they were providing a small monetary prize for shinobi from each of the villages based on their performance in the exhibition. Unfortunately, with the absence of Kumo and Suna from participating, the village leaders had been pretty adamant on their portion simply be withdrawn and their shinobi not be paid. Punishment, perhaps. The stocky man behind the counter seemed thrilled to be there, a wide grin on his face. He would push the window in front of him open, locking it in place and then grab the bell to his left, ringing it delightfully he would call out in a thick accent.

"COME 'ERE AN GET YER MOOOOONEY! BIG PRIZES FER BIG SHOONOBEH, I GOT MOOOOOOONEY TAH GIVE AWAY COME AND GET IT IF YER SERVIN YER STATE!!"

"TWENTY FER FIYA TAH BIG WINNERS, TEN TO WATER FER ALMOST TAKEN IT, AND FIVE FER ROCK CAUSE AT LEAST YA TRIED!"

Most in his position would be proud of their performance. Shinjiro had effortlessly dispatched both of his opponents from Iwagakure and been the only contestant to go the distance against not one but both of the Bannin from Konohagakure. However, failure in any form was not tolerated in the Karagata family, least of all for the famed Jinchuuriki that was a two time tournament champion. This had been the first time he had been bested in a tournament and not just once but two matches in a row.

The young overseer of the seven swordsmen had pushed his body harder than ever before and had already been suffering from injuries from his match against Taiga before facing the arguably even more fearsome Aizawa Yoru. Now, he was barely functional. Refusing to let anybody that he didn't personally know and trust examine his body, for fear of anyone learning the full extent of his body modifications, he had gone without any chakra based treatment. A few bandages wrapped around his chest, hidden beneath his cloak the young man was in agony as his muscles had been torn, bones broken and internal organs ruptured. His body healed quickly naturally but not to the extent of being able to do anything but stave off the worst injuries from taking a lethal turn.

Approaching the counter the young Jinchuuriki waited for his payout. Two victories, two matches that went the distance and then the bonus payout would total [74 Ryo] owed to him. With that maybe he could buy himself a new poison or invest in another piece of equipment that might give him an edge. He had exposed most of his secrets and still come up short, there was no question that Konoha and Kiri were the strongest shinobi nations and with the tensions after the war their rivalry and hatred of one another was more instense than ever.

The Hokage had watched the Aroma country tournament alongside his two sons. Natsuki Yozei, a Special Jounin born from a Harukatsu noble, and Hyuuga Takeshi, born from Takeo's wife, the Bannin; Hyuuga Aina. The level of competition had not dissapointed and each had been especially impressed by Aizawa Yoru, the Hokages student who was considered like a brother to Takeo and an uncle to his children. At this point there was no question that Yoru had surpassed even Takeo himself.

Yozei was no stranger to tournaments, having held his own against the Kazekage in the Semi-finals of the Star country tournament before the war when he was only a Chunin. But even now he felt grateful he had opted out this time, for he was certain he couldn't have held up against the fearsome Karagata Jinchurriki from Kirigakure, though perhaps he could have managed against the other Jinchurriki, his elemental style being more sinilar to his own area of prowess.

Takeshi on the other hand, even with his Byakugan hadn't even been able to follow any of the matches Shinjiro had competed in. They each had been nothing but a flash of motion and at least the other Jinchurriki from Kiri had given some flashy elemental jutsu to be amazed by. Nonethless the speed of Yoru and the phasing ability of Taiga had been insurmountable and awarded their village with a hefty payout for even spectators.

Now, all three of them were here to collect their [20 Ryo], Takeo, Yozei and Takeshi each waited for their turn to collect the reward. As Hokage Takeo knew how important this victory was and certainly he would celebrate with their representatives.

[Legacy]

Takanobu had been unable to physically attend the small kiosk. Despite winning one of his matches and passing on to future rounds, both training around the country side and gathering worth while intelligence gave Taka little time to participate. Just as well, his injuries from an untimely encounter with a swordsman of the mist, had left him in humbled spirits. In the end, it would be a chunin representative named Genryujīn, a moderately lean young man with hazel colored eyes, an eyepath over his left eye and a sparkling bald head. It'd become apparent that he were on official business rather than appearing to enjoy the land because of his body language and the way he clutches firmly to a Manila folder in his off hand.

"Picking up the earnings for one Senju, Takanobu. Injured and rushed home for med treatment though an active participant in the tournament. Classified as Genin. " Genryujīn would state in the perfected militaristic professional style as had become normal when handling these types of matters. Just one more notch on his paycheck and then...a worth while retirement.

Due to her own tournament participation and training between rounds, Aiya had unfortunately missed most of the exhibition fights held for the more powerful shinobi. Her own advancement to chuunin was on the line here, and that took precedence over her own desire to observe her fellow konoha brethren. However, when she heard the good news that Konoha had taken first place in the exhibitions, she was elated to hear that her comrades had put up a good fight.

Strolling up to the front desk, Aiya answered the call for a pay day with a warm smile. "Ibakuro, Aiya, here to collect on behalf of my home of Konoha!" With giddy anticipation, she held out her hand as a hefty bag of Ryo was placed in her open palm. And as she strode away from the kiosk, coin in hand, her thoughts turned to anxiety...

"my allies have won for our village... that means I really can't let them down. I have to win!" her Visage turning from happiness to resolute determination, Aiya would make her way past the crowd... this pay day would go a long way towards getting her to 1st place in this tournament.

While Naohiro hadn't participated in the tournament directly, he'd spent his days in Aroma Country observing as much as possible. He'd followed each of the fights and met several of the combatants, watching closely and learning all he could of the other nations and their young prospects. He was still surprised at the optimism and, sometimes, indifference of this post-war generation. Within their hope he found both concern and reassurance in equal parts; the war strained much of the world and in many ways, but life would go on. And the need for ninja would go on. To some of the younger folk in attendance the war may as well have never happened, and they were just as eager to fight as those who felt victimised by the conflict. Perhaps it spoke of a great cyclic inevitability: War begets shinobi begets war. Still, he was glad to have seen what he had and met those few he could. The participants here might one day achieve great things, for better or for worse.

He strolled up to the poorly-spoken local in the booth with such thoughts bouncing around his head, barely paying attention to the crowd around him nor the amount of ryo dropped into his hand. All things considered it would only be a pittance--but he'd be foolish to pass it up anyway. A few ryo in the right place could make all the difference.

Yamanaka Yukari limped through gaps in the press of people around the small kiosk, too small to barge past the loitering locals even if she'd wanted to. It took many minutes of queuing and waiting to get to the front. She wished so badly to have taken part in the exams--a small part of her wondered if she'd be standing here a Chuunin had she been able to enter--but alas it had not been possible. She was too inexperienced, anyway; even the weaker fighters who went out in the first round would have been tough encounters.
She greeted the strange man at the window and announced herself in a voice lost beneath the excitement of the crowd, then collected the fistful of ryo offered to Konohagakure ninja. Tournament or no tournament, she was pleased to at least be able to claim something.
Next time, she vowed quietly as she ducked away, I'll return home with much more than a few ryo! I'll be ready!

Izumi haruka would run towards the kiosk when she heard the words free money, she kept thinking what she could do with such free money maybe she could make more jutsu or maybe just use it to increase her strength by buying weights. When she arrived at the kiosk she would say happily in a bubbly tone “I’m from konoha can I please have my free money? “

She would then casually wait there for the free money hoping to claim what ever it may be while she continues to fantasize about what she could do with the money. As well as wonder how much free money she will be getting.

Seiza certainly was not expecting to get paid when he decided to spend his day out and about. In all honesty he had not been paying much attention at all to the tournament, having been dragged along with several other members of his clan who were in the shinobi ranks. He didn't particularly care about the tournament, so he had been spending his day relaxing and wandering around and exploring the unfamiliar area, only to be caught off-guard by the sudden shouting of payment.

As he approached the kiosk, Seiza scanned the crowd, seeing that his fellow Konoha shinobi seemed to be in the highest spirits, prompting him to come to the conclusion that whoever had won was likely from Konoha. Feeling a tiny flicker of patriotic pride enter his mind for the briefest moment, it was quickly replaced by irritation at how crowded the area around the kiosk was. He tried to maneuver around through the crowd to find a place to await payment without being crushed in the mass of bodies, but he found that the only place where he could stand without being surrounded by people much taller than him was at the very front. Seiza managed to force himself out of the crowd, placing himself on the outer edges as he waited impatiently for the ryo, eager to get out of the crowd.

With shaded blue eyes, Tenzin looked upon the Kiosk. He had visited for only a short while during the tournament. From where he was standing it was possible to ignore the man yelling about Ryo for village ninja. Although the young man didn't participate whatsoever, he walked over to the Kiosk. The man was yelling out his window which lead all sorts of shinobi with headbands over to his location. Tenzin waited in line with his hands on his hips. When it was his turn to collect, the Anbu Agent tapped on his headband to indicate that he was a shinobi of the Leaf. Without hesitation the Kiosk owner handed Tenzin the 20 Ryo. With hidden excitement, the man turned away and decided it was a good time to head back to Konoha. He had a lot of unfinished business to attend.

The masked Konoha genin, Akujin, stood quietly in line with each hand stuff into the pockets of the dark cloth pants he currently wore. His mind going over the things he had seen and personally learned during this international exam. Just like that he doddled through the line and collected his prize for competing for his home land. After recieving the prize that the other Fire country ninja had gotten he turned and wandered off else where...

Kozan would walk up to the desk, hand in his pockets, a curious look on his face. It seemed he would be collecting some earning in spite of his less than stellar performance. That was certainly good news. If he understood it, Kozan might have even called it a relief. As the line dwindled and his turn came up, Kozan would nod, gesturing towards his headband. "Kirigakure no Sato.", was all he would say. He'd collect his winnings and then step off. Easy enough.

Fudo's time at the tournament felt almost like a waste. He was not yet strong enough to take the exam himself and that really got underneath his skin. Waiting in line he started reviewing some of the fights, taking time to activate his Doujutsu to practice mastering his clan's gift seemed to have paid off. It's unfortunate that he loses the ability to keep the jutsu that his eyes copy in his current state.

As the line progressed the young boy made it to the counter. Flashing his Iwa headband he collected his pity money and retired to a nearby tree. His eyes following and tracking people in line.

As the tournament came to a close, Muramasa, Maido waltzed about with Hisayo and Kayoko. She had no students qualified for the exams this time around but perhaps she would the next time. Truly, she had had her own fair share of fun and ridiculousness within Aroma Country. She remembered doing horrible things to some Konoha lads or something of that nature. Suddenly, she had the urge to paint and remembered a weird painter she met once.

Suzuri? Was it? She couldn't recall. Alas, she would have to paint later and remember. She walked towards the counter and a headband made of blood began to materialize on her arm, before it became solid and the blood turned into a tiny red mist before fading away. She accepted her pay and left for the day, tossing the money between Hisayo and Kayoko as they too gathered their own earnings. She didn't need hers.

Shiv wiped the sweat that had been collecting on his brow. The man was expectedly a bit groggy from having 'participated' in the watching portion of the tournament! This whole thing had been nothing more than an excuse to splurge on 'finer' things while watching the youth of Kirigakure no Sato go toe to toe with the other villages. Nothing like a tussle to get the blood pumping, especially when surrounded by 'good' people. However, that was enough sight seeing for today. The soldiers of the village did alright to say the least and made for a good watching. Standing up from the bench he had claimed he calmly allowed himself a humble belch. Nothing too loud, but a belch without a shadow of a doubt which was also conveniently lost in the commotion of the crowd. Stumbling out of the tournament area, Shiv heard the clanging of a bell and shouting.

"I GOT MOOOOOOONEY TAH GIVE AWAY", Shiv's eyebrow raised as the words were internalized. Interesting, well it was a bit unexpected, but expected none the less. Surely this was payment for the champion of the village for showing up. Shiv instinctively put in hand to pocket. As expected there was no pocket change left for more 'celebration', meaning this guy was the answer to his current predicament; no warm sake in hand. Slithering toward the kiosk, Shiv noted the big smile upon the stocky man. This guy was a good person that brought happiness to those longing for their next fix. Flashing the man a smile back, Shiv gladly took whatever he was being given. "Hey, buddy. You're doing a great job here today. Don't forget that." Nothing like free right?! Once the 'mollah' was in hand, Shiv's eyes flashed almost reflexively toward the nearest watering hole.

A black haired man with his Iwa head band tied around his upper left thigh quietly got himself in line, his hands folded into his pockets the entire time as he just waited with a slightly exhausted look upon his face after everything that had transpired during the exhibition matches and how he had taken quiet the beating from the Leaf and Kiri nin. Sighing he rolled his eyes and slowly made his way up the conveyer belt like line in order to receive whatever they were supposed to receive.

Noeru was walking down the street when he hears a piercing voice come out of a kiosk stand, offering money for the members of villages of whom shinobi have participated in the exhibition fight. With Konoha winning, he was going to receive a nice pouch of ryo, he got in the queue and waited patiently for his turn.

Kurai stood in the queue, gently shaking at the fact that his village came last in the exhibition fights. Coming last was not proof of anything. It did not show any skill, especially when the other two village did not participate full stop. For all he knew they could be much more powerful than them, and simply decided not to participate. Feelings of annoyance pulsated through his veins under the effect of pure embarrassment. Still he waited to receive the little bit of ryo the shinobi had won for their own.

Once most of the crowd had dissipated and the excited chatter of free ryo faded away, a figure detatched itself from beneath the eaves of the tournament arena and walked forwards. Hayashi was clearly in no great hurry, pausing several times to watch other ninja with interest as they came and went. These exams had been a surprising success despite his worries that they would only serve to inflame the post-war tensions again. Perhaps there was some hope for the younger generations yet.

Nobody else was still queuing by now, so he strolled right up to the kiosk.
"Terūin Hayashi, from Konoha." He introduced himself, took the offered pouch of coins, then shook the man's hand. "Thank you, sir. Keep up the good work." He nodded, turned, and strolled away back towards the main tournament building. He wanted another look at the next arena before the final bout started...

Niku had been in line earlier, but she really had to urinate so she'd gotten out of line. Then there was a guy, who gave her a look and she followed him to see what he was suggesting. Turned out, he just wanted the milk for free and wasn't at all interested in a lifelong relationship, so Niku had bailed. But, she'd gotten lost in an attempt to return so it had taken the kunoichi much longer than it should have. After getting some directions, some drinks, a friendly conversation here and there, Niku managed to find her way back. She was confused because the line was gone, but she walked up to receive her payment nonetheless.

Afterwards, she was almost glad she'd gotten lost because she likely had more fun in her adventure than she would've had standing idly in line.
