Tea for Two and Two for Tea

Post by TheLacarix » Tue Jan 25, 2022 4:41 pm

The cold whisp of winter was just on the horizon, a nippy chill ran up Aizawa, Yoru’s back who pulled his green haori tight over his chest as he walked through the busy streets of steam country. It was strange to see it establish as a new neutral zone, an area he often ventured through as he made his way to tea country. The war had reshaped the world and perhaps not for the better.

Now that new tea had formed and a variety of other new nations, the Anbu Commander was now focused espionage and gathering tel. The man he had arranged to meet, the self-titled Grand Shogun was his key for this information an inside man, who Yoru hoped he could keep in his pocket, though that was yet to be seen though perhaps a mutual beneficial relationship could form at least.

He pushed open a door, getting out of the cold and into a quiet restaurant. Perhaps it was cliched to try to kiss up to his new contact by buying him dinner and a few drinks but there was nothing wrong with greasing the wheels.

The establishment was well decorated, simplistic but high class. The matire’d took Yoru’s information and showed him to his table, he ordered a fine whiskey on the rocks as he took his seat awaiting his guest.

Tea for Two and Two for Tea

Post by Nick » Sat Jan 29, 2022 9:26 am

Fuhen walked through the cold with both arms remaining inside his jacket. In truth, after his time spent in the now nonexistent Blizzard Country, and his harsh zantou training, he barely felt the cold, but it that was no reason to risk frostbite all the same. He stuck one arm back through his sleeve to open the door for himself, and walk in to the quiet restaurant.

Immediately, he felt a little uncomfortable. Not because of any suspicion of danger, but this sort of establishment was one he still wasn't much used to, having spent most of his youth in brothels and cheap taverns while traveling the world. Still, he was the Shogun now, and after the rudeness of the Hokage barging in unannounced, a quiet meeting at a nice little restaurant seemed like a decent turn of events.

The host asked Fuhen for his name, before escorting him to Yoru's table. The Shogun nodded his head towards his guest, a greeting he'd been taught by his aide for when a bow gave too much quarter. He sat down comfortably and took a good first look at the man across from him. He was pretty, exactly Fuhen's type in men, but the Frog was attempting to peer into the man's very soul, to get an impression of the deeper parts of him, what he'd been through...

His side had very little information on Yoru, except that the man was notably strong, public information on some of his battle profile thanks to his performance in a public tournament in Aroma Country. He was a ninja, of course, and one who represented the hidden leaf. Despite Takeo's rude introduction, they were on neutral, if not friendly terms for now.

"Aizawa-san..." The Shogun started, his accent barely noticeable, after having requested 'something local and strong' from their attentive waiter. "Has Heiji day been treating you well? I hear it's a sore spot for some ninja..." He kept the neutral face of a man making polite conversation, and that's mostly what it was, but to the wrong counterpart, the fisherman very well could have been casting barbed hooks. "Hard to find time to enjoy these celebrations sometimes, I find."

Despite being full of limitless potential and filled with vigor, Fuhen appears as nothing more than your average man in all aspects. This 'technique' implies that nothing about Fuhen's body language portrays that he is a trained/experienced killer, and everything from the way he walks to how his chakra appears to casual observers reinforces the idea that he is, if anything, clumsy and likely incapable of fighting. This is most useful in passing himself off as nothing special, putting most into a false sense of security, though with minimal effort Fuhen can break out of this technique to reveal his true self.

Tea for Two and Two for Tea

Yoru’s single hazel eye shifted towards Fuhen as he approached, he was more underwhelming that had expected though that didn’t matter to Yoru and knew appearances could be deceptive. He likely had to be a hardened warrior to forcibly take New Tea.

Gesturing for him to sit, he smiled “It’s a pleasure to meet you Fuhen.” Extending his own hand out to shake, if Fuhen took it he’d be met with a firm, strong handshake. He listened to what Fuhen had to say and nodded in response “I don’t believe it’s much of a day to celebrate, I am all for peace, but the war hasn’t brought anything like that.” He sighed softly agreeing with Fuhen’s sentiments “There is more war to come for sure, you can’t take someone’s home and expect them to be happy about it.” He snorted and gestured at the menu “Please order anything you like, the Konoha coffer is paying for our meal so let’s make sure to enjoy ourselves.” He said with a smirk.

As he opened up the menu and perused it to see what was on offer, there seemed to be nothing but fine meats and fishes, all more lavish than the last. He wasn’t sure what kind of person Fuhen was, perhaps he came from a simple background like himself? Though as a ruler of a country, he was surely used to the finer things now? He’d soon see.

Tea for Two and Two for Tea

Post by Nick » Mon Feb 07, 2022 4:36 pm

The Frog was happy to shake the man's hand, but his shake was subdued, polite, not like his usual exuberant self. This was the kind of meeting that he wasn't prone to having on his own, usually at least his aide would be nearby to help with some of the political proceedings. He listened with somewhat of a grim expression on his face as Yoru seemed to almost casually talk about more war on the way. It was a reality that Fuhen was waiting for, of course, his takeover of Tea had only gone so well because Ikuto was a local they respected. They may have turned to him as a Grand Shogun, but foreign invaders were rarely looked upon in a positive light.

He thought the same of Katsu, who had taken his country by storm, and forced him to flee with as many of his people as he could bring with him as refugees. He still questioned that decision, sometimes. Should he have stood up and fought them? At the time he'd reasoned that it might cause more casualties than it would rescue, but after hearing from Takeo that the people were receiving aid from the Hidden Leaf, he realized he may have left those that stayed in worse hands. He picked up the menu and stared down the options. He was fairly hungry, he hadn't worked out all day, but several meetings like this one burned calories with his brain almost as effectively as a marathon.

"Anything to tax the Hidden Leaf." He said with a wink over the top of the display. The options were mostly unfamiliar dishes, possibly local affairs, but more likely higher-class dishes he'd yet to try. Still, no matter where you went, fish was fish. "Smoked Tuna." He said with finality, setting the sheet down. Certainly not the most or least lavish thing on the menu, and while Tuna were a sea fish he didn't catch in the Land of Rivers, a smoked fish was bound to taste familiar all the same. Some small comfort as he worked out how to pilot through this dinner date.

"It is standard to do a lot of preamble with these meetings." He said, seemingly out of the blue after finalizing his order with the waiter, and passing over the menu. "But ah'm no a fan. I have two questions for you, one personal, and one business." His accent slipped out some, and the drinks were sat down in front of them. He took a sniff, and then a drink, some kind of rice grain alcohol that was bitter, not his favorite, but strong enough. "How'd ye lose an eye?" The frog said after setting his drink down, staring into the one eye remaining, reaching for the reaction, wanting to feel out his opponent.
"It's so sad!" the reader said to the writer with a frown. "The character in my book just died!" The author turned to her and burst out into tears, "I know!" he said, "So did mine!"

Tea for Two and Two for Tea

Yoru chuckled softly at Fuhen’s joke of taxing Konoha as he perused the menu himself, his finger moving up and down as a guide for his single hazel eye who locked on to what he wanted and said with a nod “I’ll take the eel, rice for us both please and can I have some of those octopus balls enough to share? I love those.” He said to both the waitress and Fuhen, who took their order and went off.

Another one quickly after brought their drinks over, he picked up the glass between his fingers let the ice move around clinking against the glass as the aroma filled his nostrils as he pressed the glass to his lips, taking a small careful sip. The first was always the most important and offered the complexity of the whiskey.

He smiled at Fuhen as he seemed to get straight to the point “I’d rather avoid the formalities as well and get right to it, though I do hope we don’t have to rush our meal. It’s one of the perks of the job.” he mused. Chuckling loudly as Fuhen ask how he lost his eye, he didn’t ask what was under the eyepatch so Yoru would simply tell him the truth “It was long before the war, I was set up and fell into an ambush, my eye was gouged out in the melee, and I was left for dead.” He said rather casually, as though he didn’t care about the event anymore. If he was honest, the eye he had now was a much better replacement “And your business question?”

Tea for Two and Two for Tea

Post by Nick » Tue Feb 08, 2022 3:18 pm

"Aye, there's always time for good food." The Frog said with a smile on his face, raising a brow at the order of octopus balls. He'd had octopus before, but it was usually grilled whole yakitori style and served on a stick. It was an import that usually came pretty cheap, and one of the things he would often buy in bulk and bring back to his village to help feed them. He was intrigued at the prospect of trying it in what sounded like a new preparation. Eel too was an interesting choice. It was one of the most common types of food caught in the rivers of his homeland, and something widely considered peasant food the world over. The Shogun briefly wondered if the food choice was intentional, these political types trying to send messages, but he decided to disregard it all the same.

His intensity seemed to downshift almost immediately in the middle of Yoru's explanation, and he leaned back, a dissatisfied look on his face. "Ah, was hoping for a tale o' grand heroics or somesuch." He swirled the glass around and looked as if the wind had been taken out of his sails. The Shogun seemed to ponder for a moment, taking another sip of the alcohol, starting to get used to the flavor a bit more, something odd, perhaps fermented in it? "Mmh, business, then your turn."

He took another drink, a little deeper this time, before setting the glass down. "What do the hidden leaf still want from me that they havnae gotten from Takeo's visit?"
"It's so sad!" the reader said to the writer with a frown. "The character in my book just died!" The author turned to her and burst out into tears, "I know!" he said, "So did mine!"

Tea for Two and Two for Tea

A smile ran across his face shaking his head in response “If you’re looking for a heroic type, I’m not your man.” He said with a snort, it wasn’t as though Yoru wasn’t trying to achieve great things but had no interesting in grandeur and dramatics.

Taking another sip of his drink, he breathed in the light alcoholic notes that brought with them a slight burn. The waitress carried a variety of plates and dishes placing their food down at the table, Yoru thanked her, not before she asked if they needing anything else. He shook his head in response as she went off to deal with other customers.

His eye shifted at Fuhen, it was clear this wasn’t the usual type he dealt with the man from the heart empire was more astute than most “I assume your discussions with Lord Hokage we’re fruitful and I do hope the alliance between Tea and Fire Country can continue I spent a lot of time in Old Tea.” He sighed softly at the loss of the nation, allowing Water Country to get footing on the mainland “I don’t know what you know of me Fuhen but I prefer to work with a more subtle approach, I believe we can help one another and our nations.” He said, “Though now it’s my turn correct?” he chuckled “First, what’s your goal? You don’t seem like an invader but a liberator. Which peaks my interest greatly.”

Tea for Two and Two for Tea

Post by Nick » Sat Feb 19, 2022 8:14 pm

Fuhen made the motion as if he was about to bang his fist down on the table, but stopped millimeters before the impact, his silverware rattling a bit, but otherwise totally quiet as he made a face. "Och, yer makin' me feel like ah've wasted me questions." He sighed, before his face shifted to one filled with significantly more humor in it. Was he really that childish? Or was he playing it up for laughs? It was hard to tell, and it was a question even the frog might not have an answer to.

His hand went flat on the table for a moment, before picking up his fork and starting to pick at the fish. The dish was a whole fish, head on and all, and so he casually picked the meat off the bones, moving it to the side of the plate to rest on top of the mound of rice he'd been given. "Startin' with the business question? Haha, or maybe this counts as the personal question! Interestin' lad." He let out a gentle laugh, his fork moving as expertly across the plate as his sword through a field of battle. He certainly didn't hold it like someone with class, but it was clear this was a dish he'd had a million times before all the same.

"Tis interestin', aye? Yer lord Takeo seemed to imply much the opposite, but who can really tell if'n ye dinnae understand the little people, aye?" He thought for a moment, stopping from peeling the meat from the fish to take a bite of the rice and fish together. Normally he would have continued to speak with his mouth full, but he'd been receiving quite a bit of training in the manners department. "Ah'm a heroic type." He finally said, a bit of a laugh escaping him. "Blessed by Takiyasha-hime, the people rally to me for answers to questions. A curse, maybe? Ahh, ah've got responsibility with the powers ah've been granted. If'n the weak want help, ah'm here for 'em, doesnae matter where they're from or what assistance they need. I'll topple every government in this world if'n it means that the next generation, or maybe the one after can know some kinda peace, ya ken? So, Yoru, why does such a dangerous man pique your interest?"
"It's so sad!" the reader said to the writer with a frown. "The character in my book just died!" The author turned to her and burst out into tears, "I know!" he said, "So did mine!"

Tea for Two and Two for Tea

Post by TheLacarix » Sat Feb 26, 2022 7:45 pm

Yoru didn’t react to the man as he seemed as though he was going to slam against the table, at least not outwardly. He pondered what the man was attempting to do, was it a strange rouse, a joke or simply pure aggression? Either way it didn’t really matter to Yoru, he had no interest in people’s personalities only their goals and how they could help him.

Picking up his chopsticks, he delicately lifted the Takoyaki placing a piece in his mouth biting through the crunchy outer shell and into the squishy centre. It was one of his favourite dishes, simple and cheap but delicious none the less.

He listened to what Fuhen had to say, Yoru’s interest was certainly piqued a heroic type who searched for peace. Fuhen was a man who could be a martyr for a cause, stir inspiration in his wake.

A perfect sacrificial lamb.

“I’m a dangerous man myself dear Fuhen.” He said with a coy smile “But you can step in circles that I cannot, I am not a man that stirs the people into inspiration it’s not a skill I have.” He said, he was a man who preferred to work in the background “Though I believe our goals are the same, I strive for peace… however I think you and I both know there is another war on the horizon, though I don’t believe it has even truly ended.” He sighed softly, the usually slick lying Yoru spoke with honesty “People’s homes we’re taken and they aren’t going to stop, Kirigakure slaughtered the people of tea and pushed them from their homeland.”

His brow raised as though he had just remembered something “I have something for you.” He declared, putting his hand into the inside pocket of his haori pulling out a small dossier and placing it on the table for Fuhen to take “I was recently in Kirigakure as a diplomat, attempting to breaker some kind of peace but unfortunately due to the invasion my talks we’re not so fruitful, however I did manage to broker a deal for the shinobi of Kirigakure to return their trophies, that they took from old tea.” It was clear he was disgusted by the word, inside the dossier was a list of jewellery, artifacts and other items of sentimental value “I will have them all transported to your new land and you and your new shogun can deal with them as you wish.”

Tea for Two and Two for Tea

Post by Nick » Wed Mar 02, 2022 10:04 pm

Fuhen pondered for a moment, watching the man eat one of the octopus balls, before reaching out to stab one for himself, popping the whole thing in his mouth to enjoy it as well. Octopus was a delicacy of the ocean he rarely got to experience in River, but he savored the fishy flavors all the same, before swallowing it down, and taking a drink of his alcohol, letting it swirl in his mouth a bit before gulping once more.

Stepping through a field of landmines as Yoru spoke, the topics being broached were ones that any political leader would likely shy away from, but Fuhen was a political leader in name only. He was just cocky enough to call himself a big damn hero, but maybe more importantly he had the history to back it up. He'd given up his fight for power a long time ago. Now he had the power to fight for good. After he died, the world would have to decide if he understood what good was.

"Ye've done the people of New Tea a great service, an' while ah'll be sure they know Konohagakure is to thank, dinnae think they've forgotten what happened." He set his cup down, casually picking up his fork to take another bite of his fish. "Ah'm sure Ikuto will make sure things get back to their proper places." He took another bite, staring Yoru in the eyes directly as he chewed, the intense gaze would make a man with less Willpower than Yoru uncomfortable, but the two were evenly matched in many ways. He couldn't peer into his soul like he could a samurai, but he was able to feel Yoru out through this conversation all the same.

He swallowed. "Such a gift will not ease their minds at all, I think, and I'm sure ye know as well." He picked up his cup again, but didn't drink right away. "In fact, just the opposite, I believe healin' wounds will reopen anew, and those who might 'ave been willin' to forget will remember their oppressors once more." He drank, unabashedly finishing it off in several gulps, before calmly setting the cup down on the edge of the table, for the waiter. "So I take it this isnae a gift after all."

The Shogun frowned, sliding a hand to the middle of the table to take the dossier, opening it and carefully reading it line by line. Fuhen had only just begun learning to read after achieving the title of Shogun, and so even simple scripts such as lists were quite hard to parse. Nonetheless, he did his due diligence to at least skim before closing it and sliding it off to the side. "The..." He paused for quite a long time, moving his hand through the air as he tried to think of the right word. "Ideaologies of Kirigakure make peace nigh impossible." He gestured broadly around them. "Steam country existing is a testament to that fact. Isnae meant to cause offense, but the people don't see Konoha is much better o' a light. They feel cold, abandoned. But ah'm sure ye knew that. A dangerous man, aye."
"It's so sad!" the reader said to the writer with a frown. "The character in my book just died!" The author turned to her and burst out into tears, "I know!" he said, "So did mine!"

Tea for Two and Two for Tea

Post by TheLacarix » Tue Mar 15, 2022 8:02 am

As Yoru looked at Fuhen he saw somewhat a reflection of himself, two men with the same goals who took different paths. Yoru was brash, bold and heroic when he was younger the wild Grand Shogun was probably who he’d have become if he had of remained within his own village. He’d be more passionate and forthright.

Now he was more subtle with his own gestures, carefully planning out each step. Though Yoru was spinning far too many plates and one was surely soon to topple, perhaps taking on the Fuhen plate would be the one to do that.

Yoru continued to pick at his food as Fuhen spoke, once he finished he nodded in agreement “Kirigakure has some difficult ideologies for sure and the same for rock and the newly reformed Iron, slavery is never an acceptable option.” He said with a frown “It’s hard to approach, I am attempting to develop peace treaties with Kirigakure and hope I can rid their thirst for slaves… yet I fear more radical action must be taken.” Sighing softly he nodded again “No offence taken.” He said as he placed his hand up to gesture he didn’t mind the comment.

“You’re correct, Konoha often likes to see itself as the great liberator and we do try our best to work with our allies. Though perhaps I am simply biased, I was a slave myself as a child. Konoha liberated me and I owe them a debt I can never truly repay- however I do agree with you. The war caused many of the Daimyo and Kages to become greedy grasping at land in fear someone else would get it first.”

Picking up his whiskey he took the final sip and gestured for it to be refilled “The war was a great shame and something that should never of happened, I don’t even believe it is truly over. Though I do have one question for you and how Tea is going? I often spent a lot of time in Old Tea it's a connection that our two countries kept close to our hearts and it's a real shame both their Daimyo and mine got greedy leaving it behind." he sighed softly "I'd love to come visit at some point, if you can accommodate me."
