It was a building dated by any standard. The Pebble hospital had seen wars come and go like the passing of the seasons. Its brick and mortar had sustained the fires and pressure of powerful jutsu, but it had always been rebuilt. Now it was still here in a much more peaceful time - the time of the festival. It was two stories tall, with the west wing being the emergency intake, and the East Wing playing host to rooms for surgeons and facilities to run tests. The second floor was the inpatient care, where people who required treatment overnight resided. Their care was handled by Nurse stations situated across the floor, and mostly operated independently of each other. Surgeons, and General Practitioners would frequently be visitors here, but they were limited in two degrees. By the poor quality of their tools and the lack of sophistication of their Jutsu.

Nakano was something of a fly on the wall in this place. As a genin her chakra barely stood out from the crowd for its lack of development. But she stood out in other ways. As a full grown woman in a nurse’s scrubs she attracted a level of attention that was appropriate for a full figured woman such as herself, which is to say eyes had a tendency to linger on her - and yet they only saw what she wanted them to see.

Nakano liked being a woman. It was convenient. She liked the way people looked at her, and the way it controlled them. It gave her a sense of power. At the same time it allowed her to slip into the General Hospital in Pebble country with next to no questioning. Appearing as a nurse herself, the overworked nurses were grateful to have an extra hand. The woman felt little in the way of disgust, and seemed to happily perform her duties.

In reality, Nakano was scouting out for techniques here. It was true that she had taken up studying in Konoha to become a medical nin, but the festival had presented an opportunity for her to learn about foreign jutsu. After discussing it with the mission office in Konoha, she managed to obtain a mission here - in the hospital. She was genuinely helping out but it wasn’t without ulterior motives. Even after spending hours with some of the nurses and people here she developed little in the way of sympathy towards any of them because she simply wasn’t capable of such emotions.

Nakano’s Greatest strength and perhaps weakness was that she was a sociopath and lacked the ability to connect with others.

[Festival] General Hospital Pebble

Chiaki had been a bit overwhelmed by the shopping, the food, and the festivities of the month-long festival and needed some time to be herself. Theraveda had said that a change in work is the best rest, and for someone that required neither sleep nor food like herself, she realized that it was just the thing that she needed to keep going and enjoy the festival.

Yesterday, while she was out and about, she had seen that there was a hospital that they were using for the festivities, and realized that even amongst the general rose colored clamor of the people, there were still accidents. Fireworks going off in people’s hands, drunks that stumbled into people, knives that chopped too quickly and to cleanly to leave fingers alone. All of these things, she remembered, were things that people took for granted on the holidays, and she also remembered that during holidays people were more apt to relax and not think of where they were putting themselves, which left them open to injury.

As she walked along, her black leggings rubbing against each other under her gray sweater dress that she had decided to wear to look professional, she noticed that there was a line at the entrance to the emergency room, and that the people with less severe injuries and maladies were waiting outside of the Emergency Department of the hospital.

Well, best to go in and apply then. Chiaki walked up to the entrance and was quickly bustled to the side by a nurse, an older lady who had apparently had enough of people cutting in line. “State your ailment and we’ll get to you as soon as possible, we have a ticket counter here and will call your number when we get to you.”

She barely even looked at Chiaki, who was still a good two inches taller than the woman, even if the woman hadn’t been slouching, but since she was bent from overwork, Chiaki could clearly see the grizzled grays that were neatly tucked into a bun. The nurse was holding a clipboard and looked up at the red kunoichi as she didn’t respond right away.

“Kyoukan, Chiaki, I am here to help out with a bit of the work, if that’s alright. Getting on into evening and I assume that it gets busier at night. Less staff, more patients?” Chiaki raised both eyebrows in a soothing motion, her butterflies exuding calm throughout the entire area, trying to bring the situation to a satisfactory close, for her that was.

“Miss, we need experienced, well trained medical nin or doctors at this point, if you don’t have the training, then I suggest that you try your hand at playing doctor elsewhere.” The nurse stated, flatly, the irritated tapping of her fingernails against her clipboard punctuated her sour demeanor.

“Ah, I’ll go and get rid of the line then, shall I, and then I’ll come back?” Chiaki waved a hand toward the door that she had come in, but kept her eyes fixed on the woman, gauging her reaction.

The nurse shrugged, turning away from her, “Honey, if you can get rid of the line by curing the patients, we’ll make you a doctor." She chuckled to herself and called back, continuing her confident strut, "I’ll even put in a good word to the board for you to have a permanent position.”

Chiaki grinned, raising an eyebrow at the challenge as the nurse left.

--

About a half an hour later as the sun was setting, Chiaki was strolling through the halls with a stack of folders in her arms. She had been assigned, as a doctor, to fourteen patients, inpatients, that the doctors would like to have out of the hospital by the end of the day if possible, making room for more heads in more beds.

She had been assigned some ninja from other villages as nurses and as co-practitioners.

Pulling a loose strand of her red hair behind her ear, she muttered to herself as she went through another patient profile. This one had been assigned to a girl named… Nakano as a nurse. The patient had a blood pressure, dangerously low, had a heart rate of 120, resting, had the chills, was pale in pallor, and had been put on a drip antibiotic.

Frowning, she nodded to herself and walked toward the patient room. Systemic antibiotics would only work within the first couple days, and the patient was on hour eighteen with no signs of improvement. Time to see if she could intervene. That, and meet this “Nurse Nakano” person.

So far the purpose of Nakano’s mission had been somewhat frustrated by the lack of trained medical shinobi serving as doctors in the land of Pebbles. The Doctors had been giving orders for treatment but it all relied on the administration of medicine and procedures with basic tools, and nothing advanced using chakra. It was disappointing to a degree. Nakano sped up the sterilization of a room using her Sterilization jutsu. The patient that had been there previously had been discharged and they needed the room cleaned and prepared for the next patient that was to be admitted. Having finished with her task, she briefly reported to the nursing station that the room was now available before starting on rounds again.

Thanks in part to her training as a genin, she had the training to push past her own weariness. She recalled the many 70 lbs backpack treks that she had gone on as part of her survival training in the Konoha academy. So she was handling the stress well, and she was already starting on her rounds once more. She made her way into the first room and paused.

Nakano was a full figured woman. She was wearing nurse’s scrubs matching the Pebble’s Hospital staff, but despite this the scrubs were tight on her curves and she was practically spilling out of them. Her short bob of a haircut was pulled back with a hairband.

She was surprised to see someone else in the room who wasn’t a patient. She didn’t look like a doctor in her gray sweater dress. Nakano folded her arms beneath her breasts and leaned against the frame of the door. ”Oh? And who do we have here?” Nakano wore a bemused expression as she looked over Chiaki. She was glancing at the medical chart for the patient. ”You know that's Personal Identifiable Information right? You shouldn’t be looking at that.” The Irony of course was not lost on Nakano, who wasn’t even a Pebble nurse despite her disguise.

Nakano stood up straight, walked over to glance at the chart and then back to the patient and the I.V. drip. She had seen enough death, to acknowledge that this person's time was probably up. Nakano approached the locked cabinet in the room and unlocked it with the key she had been given. She pulled on a set of gloves and a mask. She then took out a plastic bowl and filled it with some clean water. She placed this on a rolling tray. She pulled a scalpel out and removed it from its packaging. She put some scissors, tape, and a roll of bandages on the rolling tray as well. ”Not looking too good. I think we can buy him some time with this.”

She rolled over to the man’s bedside. She lifted up his shirt and Her hands flashed together and she formed chakra that blocked off the chakra flow into the area. This would reduce the pain as it created a local anesthesia effect. made a quick practice incision on his abdomen. Then she formed a short series of handseals before holding her hands over the wound. A green orb of chakra appeared in the palm of her hand. She began to draw out the poison from the man’s blood. Given his state the Orb filled up rather quickly and she emptied it into the bowl of water. With the clean water and her chakra she mutated the poison into a type of antidote and then slipped it back into the body.

Chiaki looked at the very busty, and curvy nurse and raised an eyebrow. She hadn’t seen anyone fit this tightly into scrubs in her entire time as a Kunoichi or a doctor. She chuckled lightly and nodded at Nakano as she entered the room, “What do you think his prognosis is?” She pointed to the man, who was weak and getting weaker.

She narrowed her eyes as she was told that it was PPI, and shrugged, knowing that it was indeed correct. She couldn’t just waltz in here and expect that everyone know that she was an acting doctor, but it was a bit more fun to see what the Nurse Nakano had to say. Chiaki realized that the nurse was challenging her and was prepared, at least, for a bit of combativeness to a doctor that had recently arrived from Iwagakure no sato. She didn’t however, expect the lip from a nurse unless she was a charge nurse.

No matter.

“Agreed, not too good at all.” She waited, letting the girl come to her own conclusions and watched the IV drip. As Nakano turned away from Chiaki, toward the closet with the supplies, Chiaki wove a series of hand seals and touched the patient, giving the nurse longer to work on the patient and watching her work. She, of course, would step in if the patient was fading or if the time that she had bought wasn’t enough, but she wanted to see what this nurse could, and would, do for him.

As she touched him, he gripped her wrist and looked at her, the fever in his eyes making the pupils dilate and his eyes looked rather wild with the elevated temperature that was probably causing hallucinations. The buying of time was only as good as the nurse that was going to work on him, and she seriously hoped that she wouldn’t have to step in at the last moment, but prepared, mentally for it. While he grabbed hold of her, she lifted his shirt and noticed that the bandage that he had been wearing had gone sour, along with the wound. The sickly sweet stench of flesh that was starting to go gangrenous overwhelmed her, making her turn her head and cough once to clear it from her nose.

As the nurse came back, she had replaced the shirt and wondered if Nakano had noticed that the wound had soured, “Nurse Nakano, what do you think you can do for him, and do you think he’ll pull through this?” As the nurse held her hand over the wound, clearly seeing what she had seen, she pressed, hard, on one of his pressure points, which lessened the bleeding considerably, holding it until the antidote was put back in his body.

“Impressive use of the antidote technique.” She murmured, nodding. Usually she administered the antidote orally, but it was a good practice to get it into the bloodstream as fast as possible, which meant she needed to lessen pressure on the wound. She let go, slowly, and the wound started to seep blood from it.

She also noticed, perhaps it had been overlooked or perhaps the systemic infection had been too severe, that the man had a broken arm as well. She looked up to Nakano and gave her best professional smile, “Do you use chakra in all of your remedies?” She wondered, now, whether she had given herself away as a shinobi, or whether she was still in the clear. Th knowledge of chakra was rather universal, but she didn’t know, really, how deep the knowledge went for the citizens of pebble.

The patient took one deep breath, and all his muscles tightened, which sent a rather large rivulet of blood seeping down his side, “Do you have a bandage? I think he’s going to seize soon.” Chiaki finally moved away from the game and went into what she affectionately called, ‘doctor mode.’

Shiun stood outside of the time-weary hospital in Pebble that was servicing the festival, stance wide, her hands on her hips. She stared upwards st the old, beat up looking walls and the slightly crooked (in some cases) windows, head tilted back, a scowl on her face like she was in some deep thought. A few people passed by behind her, going about their business. Most were elsewhere in or otherwise near the festival grounds, some cheers could be heard off in the distance, yet here was this foreign girl, staring with near-white, dead-looking eyes at a building like she was squaring up against a foe to fight! The sheer intensity radiating off her could practically be felt! Was she looking for someone? Was she going to cause some sort of a ruckus for the individuals who were there seeking aid and comfort? Was she perhaps sizing the place up as if the scope out someone, anyone, worthy of her time and attention that might be dwelling inside!?

No. The answer was no. In truth all of that confidence and bravado was just a natural expression for her at this point when she got like this - and by 'like this', it should be said, that means so far out of her depth that she was desperately looking for a lifeline that would get her out of this situation immediately. Shiun thought to herself, 'They've got to have something in there that will make my chest stop feeling so tight! Medicine, a jutsu, a spa, something! There's ninjas here at this thing, some of them know iijutsu right? Iijutsu covers anxiety, doesn't it?'

So she thought to herself in circles. Around and around she went, posing one question after another as she stood alone, staring, coming up with reasons why she should go inside but vehemently rebutting those suggestions by posing another question. Such was her anxiety and lack of knowing what to do in this moment that she externally was putting on a brave, fearsome front while on the inside, poor girl that she was, she was paralyzed, in terrible need of support and comfort but in no way showing it, or taking action to help herself.

Poor girl!

Had she given something away? She may have seriously underestimated the number of trained physicians that had knowledge of medical jutsu here in the land of Pebble. The surprise though didn’t cross Nakano’s face. It was easy for her to keep herself calm and collected because the interaction meant so little to her in the long run. Ah but she had enjoyed using the scalpel on the patient, and she had enjoyed his pain overall. Call it malicious but she had deliberately left him in such a state so that she could find some measure of enjoyment in her task, that being in the pain of the patient. It was honestly an evil thing, and she knew that she was an evil creature - and yet no one would ever be able to know the heart that was Nakano. The demon without a tailed beast. No, even a beast only hunted or killed because it was hungry or defending its territory. Satiated Hunger was a natural process - and defending one's territory was merely dealing out the price of trespass. A positive Karmic Action if certain religious monks were to be believed. Yes, she was just merely evil. She was less than a beast, less than a demon. A fiend of the lowest pits but by all that was divine she loved it.

”Chakra is part of the body, but it's clean and easy to manipulate. I’d think anyone who was serious about their studies as a medical professional should consider its use. Besides, it's hard to keep up with the demand without spending just a little spiritual energy.” It became apparent quickly that this woman was not just some passerby. She easily took the lead and Nakano fell in place, procuring bandages and supplies for the more experienced woman of the medical field. Working as a team came naturally to some degree as it was part of the curriculum in the Konoha Shinobi academy. Nakano was used to taking orders and falling in line, and since Chiaki had done so in such confident a manner she had slipped in to assist without a second thought. Nakano of course recognized that they were spending perhaps a bit too long on this one patient. Granted he needed it but she still had rounds and other patients to see.

Time to get creative. Her hands became a flurry of seals as she tested waters she had never traversed before and manipulated her sensory technique to be more accurate and more specific than it typically was. Yes, normally one only needed to know where an opponent was, not how he was feeling or his physical condition - but in this instance she needed to know how the people on her floor were doing and if there were any other medical emergencies occurring.

She formed the Snake seal as with some Finality and emitted a radar like wave of chakra. Only her chakra was sensitive to the body’s electrical signals. The most obvious read was the pulse. The technique was much more difficult to manage with her level of control due in part to the massive amounts of information that was returning to her. Heart rates for the patients all seemed to have remained stable - the equipment they were being monitored by would have certainly given a warning as well, but this let her review the information at once so that she could get a general wellness check on the floor.

She paused. There was someone with an elevated heart rate on the edge of the range of her technique. A real concern that this person timidly standing at the edge of the hospital was having a heart attack began to enter her mind. Nakano monitored it for a moment longer before she began to see the pattern materializing. The lows and highs were rather concerning. It seemed that the person hadn’t decided whether or not that they actually needed help, but they had come to the doors of the Hospital and to Nakano that might as well be good enough.

”I think someone is having a heart attack outside the building.” Nakano moved over to the window and looked out and spotted the timid looking creature. She unlocked the window and slid it open. She pulled off the tainted gloves and used her sterilization jutsu on herself as she ran down the side of the building. The wall walking technique was standard far for a kunoichi from Konoha, and she easily made her way to the ground - although she may have given her training away to a degree - but She figured that seeking out people who were in danger would give her some degree of leniency for the use of chakra.

”Are you alright?” Nakano called out to Shiun after she reached the ground.

Chiaki watched as the younger ninja jumped out the window and stuck to the wall, running down it like some sort of lizard. Smiling, she sent a couple butterflies lazily down after them. She couldn't hear what they were saying, but she also had more important business in the hospital if the child did not fall into cardiac arrest. Best to keep an eye on her though.

She willed the butterflies to channel some chakra into the area, and a soothing calm descended like a blanked around the area that the two were in. It would look like the other kunoichi, Nakano, was the culprit of the butterflies, and as Chiaki propped herself up on one elbow, the man behind her apparently had sat up and was inspecting himself.

Not her best work, but she had to conserve chakra.

"Thank you miss." He said, his voice gruff with relief from the worry that had been clutching at his throat all day.

"Not at all, your nurse just jumped out the window," She pointed down to Nakano below, "She was the one that did most of it. Might want to rest for a few days before you go binging on anything though, a nasty infection like that will take a while to fully recover from. I prescribe mild to light exercise, like walking, and no binge eating or drinking." She wrote up a prescription and gave it to a butterfly, who fluttered over to him, placing it delicately on his lap before returning to her.

Through all of this, she watched the couple of girls down below, wondering if the pheromones were doing their work or whether she would have to go down there and remedy the situation herself.

Shiun was staring so intently ahead at the building itself that she didn't notice the approach of the kunoichi descending down the wall, which is a shame, really, as the sight of someone using the Tree Walking jutsu right before her eyes likely would have overridden her deep feelings of anxiety and panic in the wake of excitement! Never the less, it wasn't until the older woman spoke out that Shiun actually turned towards her. The expression on her face was hard and seemingly mistrusting, intense and fiery! Such a serious face on someone so young! Before she could stop herself, Shiun's arm shot up and pointed at the black haired kunoichi (who she assumed was either a festival patron or maybe a guest at the hospital), snapping at her, "I'm doing just fine, thank you, and who asked you anyway, nosey!?"

She blinked as a few things happened simultaneously. Firstly, Shiun realized what she just said and how she had just said it, her bad habit of speaking up before she actually fully processed the situation she was in coming around and rearing it's ugly head. Because of this a wave of embarrassment rushed over her, the dark skinned girl's body relaxing on the spot, her face softening as a result, as she turned to jelly and her cheeks burned! Lastly came the butterflies at roughly the same moment, the fluttering little things actually still too high up for Shiun to notice them over the rim of her purple mushroom cap for the Kinoko to notice, but breathing in had the intended effect and she was suddenly much more calm, if not still embarrassed with herself and her behavior! She gave off a weak smile, chuckled lightly, and brought her index fingers together sheepishly. Just as she was going to apologize though, she saw it -

The Konohagakure headband wrapped around the waist of the woman who she had just called nosey!

Shiun took a huge gasping breath in, eyes lighting up as she recognized that symbol for what it was and knew immediately (well, she thought she knew, anyway) who she was talking to! "Ohmygosh, you're a ninja!?" she asked excitedly before darting over in front of the darkly dressed woman and beaming at her with sparkling eyes! Despite the age difference between them, Shiun was actually a little bit taller than her but they were more or less still at eye level with one another and they were most certainly practically touching noses because of how close they were to each other. "My name's Shiun Kinoko! What's your name? You're from Konohagakure? That's so cool! You're so cool!" she blurted out, excitedly. For those keeping track (Nakano), Shiun's heartrate would have skyrocketed, but remained steady by now. A clear sign of utter excitement!

Rather than any sort of shock, Nakano was… Calm. Except that was wrong, she normally didn’t feel anything except what one might call as negative emotions or pleasure. It was an alien sensation to her and maybe she would be frightened or shocked at the new emotions coming over her if it didn’t force her to feel soothed. Her attention turned back to Shiun, a woman with a mushroom hat. In a similar vein she saw the emotions plain on the girl’s face melt away and give in to the calm. ’A genjutsu?’ Nakano briefly wondered as the butterflies encircled them.

Her attention was drawn back to Shiun when she darted over and exclaimed in an excitable manner. Certainly not the behavior she was expecting of a woman…well now that she thought of it, this ‘woman’ did seem a bit on the younger side. Nakano bit her thumb, it was just such a shame because she had such pretty skin. It would be better to err on the side of caution especially in a foreign land where. Nakano made sure to take Shiun by the shoulders and push her away gently so that they were at a more social distance. She internally cursed when the girl pointed out her headband. It was a slap in the face to Nakano who had tried to disguise herself as a nurse. Why had she put her headband on? Force of habit? Well that was a big mistake.

”Hello my dear Kinoko, such a precious name. Yes, I’m from Konoha.” Well there was little use hiding it now. Due in part to the difficulty of her jutsu from before and using the wall walking technique Nakano hadn’t maintained the Chakra Cardiogram. The issue was that she didn’t quite have the control to do both at the same time, and looking at Shiun now, she determined this girl wasn’t having a heart attack but rather was just really excitable. There was not a need to resume her technique at the moment. ”You can call me Nakano. Were you needing any medical assistance, seeing as you are standing in front of the hospital - or perhaps were you just visiting? On a personal note, how old are you? ”

Chiaki, while the other two were talking, decided to descend the proper way through the hospital to better hear the conversation between the two girls. She hoped that she would be able to meet them before they came to a halt in the conversation and that she wouldn’t be late to the party, so to speak.

She smiled as she rounded the corner and smiled at the two, “Nurse Nakano, the patient is stable and has come to, I have prescribed bed-rest for a bit and not too much imbibing of any alcoholic substances. I am thinking we will keep them in the hospital for a couple more hours just to be sure that he’s alright, but he should be through the worst of it.” She was careful to keep the patient’s name, diagnosis, and symptoms out of the conversation. Nakano should remember who it was, however, as it had been scant minutes since she had descended the wall.

Chiaki smiled to the girl with the mushroom on her head, “Hello dear, I am Kyoukan, Chiaki, a pleasure to meet you. Can we help you?”

[open][Festival][Iron Banner] General Hospital Pebble

Shiun's giddiness at meeting a kunoichi, that literal bounce in her step as she rose and feel on the balls of her feet, hands balled up I to fists and held in front of her, was only really stopped when Nanko asked if she needed any sort of assistance. She stopped bouncing and, somewhere, a wooden 'thunk' rang out in time with her expression falling. Ah. Right. The anxiety attack she was supposed to be in the middle of. Funny how interacting with an obsession can completely derail a person's train of thought and feeling and, effectively, knock them back to their senses. She hadn't even noticed that she'd been pushed back a bit.

"Oh, uh, yeah, I'm fine. I'm just lost, I got separated from my group and was kind of having a panic attack. I was hoping that maybe the hospital might have something to help... But I'm better now, after meeting you!" she said with a grin, bouncing back to being a cheerful little girl again. It wasn't too long after Shiun explained this that Chiaki came over, explained to 'nurse Nanako' (Ha! She wasn't a nurse she was a kunoichi, silly!) that the patient was well, introduced herself. Shiun bowed her head and returned the greeting in kind.

"How do you do, my name's Shiun Kinoko, I am a samurai of the Heart Empire... And I was just lost and freaking out a bit, no big deal! Oh, right..." she trailed off, remembering that Nanako had asked her a question. She turned back to the ninja in disguise and said flatly, "I'm eleven, why do you ask?"

Could it be that she looked, bare minimum, five years older than that!? Of course Shiun was still getting used to it all herself she wasn't self conscious enough yet to put two and two together, hence the dumb question and innocent expression on her face.
