[Festival] What to do?

Considering she had some free time, she figured she would stay in Pebble and maybe see what else she could do during the festival. She had heard it was a strange festival, one where there was an attempt at encouraging comradery between nations. While Sachi liked the idea of peaceful interactions, she was smart enough to understand it wasn’t likely to work. With that said, she did feel safe with all the samurai around, standing guard. She watched them from time to time as she wandered around the festival grounds. They all seemed so large and powerful, a level of imposing that she would never reach at her stature.

It was uncommon for her to be in such a mood. One where she seemed somewhat lost and without a task. But, she was human and things like this would still happen. It felt odd, visiting a place so large compared to where she had grown up. Her parents would likely be proud of her, having gotten an education and learned to defend herself. Heck, she was learning to work with groups and protect other people, not just herself. Her blueish green eyes turned upward as she looked into the sky. What should she even do with herself?

Apparently, her feet had carried her to an area that had been used for training at some point. The ground was visibly tamped down by feet stomping around. A few gouges in the dirt, here and there, gave visitors the idea that maybe there had been weapons used, even. A training dummy had a couple chunks missing from the sides, too. She looked around, her head tilted from side to side as she closed her eyes. She focused her ears and nose, trying to see if she could pick out anyone nearby. From what she could tell, she was alone. Her hands moved quickly and deftly as she swatted at the dummy. Her strikes were firm, but lacked any real strength. They were strikes clearly designed to redirect instead of inflict damage.

Sachi closed her eyes, a hand resting on the dummy. When she opened them again, she looked around and spotted a weapon rack with wooden swords. She stuck her hands in her pockets as she walked toward it. Pulling her left hand from her pocket, she picked up one of the weapons that would normally have been akin to a shortsword to a normal sized adult. In her hands, it sized better as a one hand, single-edged blade. She gave it a couple swings and shrugged. In the distance, the sounds of groups training together seemed to put her in a mood.

She finally walked up to a training dummy and eyed it. With a deft hand, she gave a quick swing. There wasn’t enough power behind it. Not for her liking, at least. Swing, swing, punch. Her eyes locked onto the dummy as she clearly tried to envision herself fighting someone. With a sigh, she walked back over to the weapon rack. She placed the blade she had picked up on the rack and grabbed one that managed to be a better fit as a katana in her hands. Sachi turned and closed her eyes, trying to recall the classes at the academy.

Her feet wandered back to the dummy where she closed her eyes again. It was a minute or two later when they opened. She slowly worked herself through one of the forms they had been taught. Her muscles taught as she made each movement as deliberate as possible. It was easy to see there was, actually, a decent bit of muscle hiding behind the small frame. Not large muscles, but strong, firm. Her movements were faster and more precise than they were strong. With the final swing, she let out her breath. She relaxed her muscles, rolling her shoulders a bit.

"I haven’t done that in a good bit,” she mumbled as she rested the back of the blade on her shoulder. A couple taps as she seemed to ponder something. She let out a sigh and wandered to a bench near the small training area. Sachi rested the wooden sword across her lap. She swung her pack around and unzipped it, grabbing her water bottle. She took a few swigs from it before slipping it back into her pack. At that, she crossed her legs under herself, resting her elbows on her knees and her chin in her hands, she sighed. She seemed to still be unsure of how to spend her time as she sat in visible thought.

[Festival] What to do?

Once again Yozei had made the journey North, he had made a habit of visiting Konoha at least once a year. But this time he hadn’t been able to stay for long, enough to see the old sights and reunite with his stepmother and sisters before leaving for Pebble country alongside his father and younger brother. But there was tension in the air. He had missed the Steam country festival, where the Kage had gathered and discussed peace only a year and a half ago. And now he was being called to action, to defend Wind country from Iwagakure’s advances. He had marched north with his men, a regiment of one hundred fire country samurai, only a fraction of the forces at his disposal as Prince of Fire country and crown regent over Fire countries southern provinces of Dragon’s Breath and Dragon’s Touch.

The young Prince, a man of 23, would train among the Pebble country samurai that claimed themselves peacekeepers of the world. And then he would depart to fight in yet another war, an effort to protect their allies and maintain the peace his father the Hokage, and maternal Grandfather, the previous Daimyo, had established. Wearing a silk Haori of rich red and gold patterns, the red-haired man moved through the festival grounds with a calm grace. He was a Jounin in his own right and had trained for years alongside samurai. At his hip he carried his daishou, two katana, one in a brilliant red and gold sheath and the other blue and white, styled with waves and lightning bolts.

A contingent of 6 samurai clad in deep red lacquered armor followed behind him from about twenty paces. He had come to accept by now that he wouldn’t be permitted to go anywhere alone but at least he had convinced them not to parade him about on a palanquin. He had only been named a Prince 4 years ago, taking on his mother’s royal last name of Harukatsu rather than his father’s of Natsuki that he had been called during his time training as a shinobi. But he had adjusted well to a life of royalty. He believed himself a fair and just ruler and one who relied greatly on his mother’s guidance as well as coordinating with his uncles and cousins on occasion, each given different territories to rule within Fire counties empire. As the 6th Prince of Fire country he was not in line to become Daimyo anytime soon but he did preside over a larger territory than even those above him, leading to a great deal of resentment and multiple assassination and kidnapping attempts. When he could prove which cousin or uncle it was that had wanted him dead, he would surely find himself higher up the line of succession. As just as he was, he had a growing reputation for burning alive those that crossed him. The Dragon Prince, some called him.

Yozei’s cerulean blue eyes scanned the crowds as he made his way toward one of the less crowded training areas. He was fortunate at least that there was a great number of powerful and influential people in attendance, so he hadn’t drawn any kind of a crowd. The same couldn’t be said if he were to walk around like this anywhere within Southern Fire country. Here, many would only know him due to his listing in the Bingo Book as a high value target. No doubt one of his relatives had some hand in putting a price on his head. Though with only 198 Ryo on his head he wasn’t even among the top 10 most wanted.

Smiling softly, Yozei watched as a lithe young girl swung about a boken. He had always enjoyed teaching the younger generation. As a shinobi he only had one dedicated student but he had helped others whenever he could, especially his younger brother Takeshi and his younger sisters Hanako and Kaori. “Excuse me” he interrupted politely, “Would you allow me to train with you?” he wondered as he approached the weapon rack to pick out a boken of suitable length for himself. He supposed if she declined he could spar with some of the samurai guarding him but it seemed in the spirit of the event to meet new people and bridge cultural differences. He had no idea where this girls allegiances lay but he paid that no mind and simply saw her as a young student that he could help nurture. “My name is Harukatsu Yozei” he introduced, dipping his head slightly. He wasn’t sure if she would recognize the name, likely not if she wasn’t from Fire country. Most kids weren’t too invested in the politics and royal families of foreign countries after all.

[Festival] What to do?

The sound of armor clattering gently was closer than normal, so she turned to see where it was coming from. She saw a small group of samurai, clearly not from Pebble, but clad just as well. The man that approached surprised her slightly. He had asked to train with her. A complete stranger. She watched how he moved, trying to make a quick assessment of just how much he might whoop her ass. Noticing that he moved with a strong aire of confidence, she let out a little sigh. There was a smile on her lips, regardless. “As long as you don’t mind my complete and utter lack of skill,” her voice was a little playful as she took the boken from her lap.

Once he introduced himself, she very visibly tilted her head. Her eyes seemed to search his face while parsing through some amount of information in her mind. As she stood, her braid fell over her shoulder and almost glittered in the light. When she moved, it showed she wasn’t a kid, but still on the younger side. The boken rested on her shoulder as her brows creased a little, still thinking on something. She shook her head and placed a warm smile across her lips. “I’m Sachi, pleasure to meet you. I only graduated from the academy in New Tea recently, so I may not be the best. But, at least I’m better than a training dummy,” she all but giggled as she pointed a thumb to said dummy. When she noted he dipped his head toward her, she almost jumped to return the gesture.

Sachi thrummed her fingers against the hilt of the boken and shrugged her shoulders. She eyed the gentleman’s guards and waved at them with a genuine smile. She walked over to what might be considered the center of the training area. While nothing about her seemed to shake, it was quite obvious she was nervous. Once she stood just off center, she lowered the boken from her shoulder and took a more ready stance. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. As she let the breath from her chest, she rolled her shoulders. This time, when she opened her eyes, some of the nerves seemed to have trickled away.

While she knew it was hard to gauge the strength of someone, especially if they were shinobi, Sachi typically assumed any opponent would be stronger. To be honest, that was the reason she was so nervous. Being one on one with anyone made her feel weak. That said, training against that was about the only real way she would learn how to defend herself and become stronger in her own way. She had developed a little bit of a way to counter stronger opponents, but it was definitely something she needed to work on.

“So, if I may ask, are you someone from somewhere within Fire Country? I know your surname sounds familiar, but I can’t quite remember why,” her tone was genuine and curious. “Oh, and was there anything in particular you wanted to train? The least I can do is try to watch out for something if I know ahead of time.”

[Festival] What to do?

Post by Izanagi » Sat Apr 22, 2023 12:10 am

The young man looked upon his boken as if gazing at an old friend. He was not a particularly skilled swordsman, but he had fond memories of training and carried the way of the samurai, the bushido code, in his heart. His wrist twisted, gauging the familiar weight of the weapon. Within his mind he could hear the smack of training swords, smell the fields of tea, and the sweat of hard-working samurai. “We all start somewhere, and there is always more to learn. Let us both do our best” he responded calmly as he began to move toward the center of the area. There was a outline of a ring in the dirt, about 5 meters across. Likely it was meant for wrestling matches of some sort but there was a benefit to training with boundaries in Kenjutsu as well. Situational awareness, footwork and positioning after all were the foundations of any martial art and weapon-based fighting was no different.

The samurai would begin to spread out, 4 of them moving to cover the perimeter, each on a different side 15 meters away from the center and then the last 2 samurai would stand 12 meters behind Yozei, keeping an eye on him directly. Yozei noticed as the girl approached that she was in fact a woman, simply one shorter in stature. She still looked young but not much younger than himself. “A pleasure” he responded with a genuine kind smile. He felt comforted the moment she stated her allegiance. “I spent 6 months training in Old Tea before the war, then was stationed there a few weeks at a time during the war as well” he said, nostalgia evident in the gleam in his eyes. And then his cerulean gaze flinched and looked downcast as the bitter pain of Tea countries fall gripped his heart. Exhaling slowly, he accepted that the past was what it was. The land was taken by Kirigakure, but the people persisted. And in fact the samurai of Tea had recently been fighting for their homeland once again. Yozei’s regret was that he hadn’t joined them, overruled by the new Daimyo from the Toshikane family the man was adamant Fire country not stir up trouble with Kirgakure again. But then, weren’t they repeating the same mistakes that had cost them before? Focusing so much on containing Iwagakure and helping Sunagakure that they lost sight of their century-long allies of Tea country.

These thoughts plagued his mind. He felt suddenly that he was making a mistake by following Konoha and the new Fire country Daimyo. Perhaps, it was the way of the samurai. Of following his heart that he should truly be committed to. “The people of Tea are strong. I envy them and their samurai way. Heart. It's a fitting name” he said, speaking with great reverence for her people. Even if she wasn’t a native of Tea country herself, she had joined a great and noble cause. Yozei noticed the way the woman breathed and the look in her eyes, how her hand trembled so slightly. He was no stranger to such symptoms himself. There were times where he couldn’t help but jitter and he had even learned how to enhance those feelings and utilize them through the Skitter step style. But being among samurai helped to calm his nerves and ground his spirit in a way that few other things could. “Focus, breathe. Ground yourself and your stance. Feel the earth beneath your feet, your sword, an extension of yourself. And your opponent across from you. That is all there is” he explained calmly as he began to set his mind into the mantra of Iaido.

He began to widen his stance, grounding himself, opening his hips, straightening his back as he held the Boken against his side as if he were to draw it. Lean muscles settled into a familiar position, but they were relaxed and at peace. Yozei nodded slowly as Sachi asked about his family name. “That’s right. The Harukatsu and Toshikane are the two royal families of Fire country that alternate Daimyo’s. I am the 6th Prince of the Harukatsu family” he stated calmly. “But don’t let that distract you. We'll be training Iaido of course. Clear your mind. Ground your stance, relax your muscles, and keep a light grip. Then, draw!” he demonstrated as he stepped forward with a swift, lightning-fast slash. The boken cracked like a whip through the air at 25 Speed. And then, slowly his wrist turned and the sword was draw back in a smooth, practiced manner before sliding back toward his hip as if being sheathed. “Now you try” he gestured politely. Before they were to spar he wanted to make sure she had the basic down.
Jutsu TrainedShow
300/300
*[Iaido • Ancestral Visage]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Using Iaido to its fullest requires a keen eye and quick reactions, enabling its users to target weaknesses and openings that their opponents present almost instantaneously. This Discipline represents the practitioner's ability to attack openings that present themselves, the practitioner now able to reflexively attack an opening in almost the same moment that it is observed. This Discipline reduces the gap of time between a practitioner recognizing a potential opening for attack and launching the attack to exploit said opening to almost nil.

300/300
*[Iaido • Shinigami’s Gaze]
A-Rank Taijutsu Stance.
Prerequisite(s): 30 Speed, *[Iaido • Ancestral Visage].
Taking a deep breath and regulating their breathing, the practitioner assumes a crouched stance, leaning forward slightly as their sword hand hovers over the hilt of their blade, the scabbard's edge firmly gripped with their opposing hand. Forcing external distractions out of the mind such as pain, fatigue, and non-critical environmental distractions, the practitioner directs all of their focus onto a single opponent, dropping themselves into a trance called the Theta state. The Theta state allows the practitioner to react almost instinctively to each action of the opponent. These reactions happen so quickly that a proficient user of this stance can commonly interrupt or counter an opponent's actions with a movement or slash before they even finish it. This stance will constantly drain the practitioner while in use, and it is both ineffective and dangerous to use when fighting multiple opponents. If the opponent's Speed is higher than the practitioner's Speed, this technique is rendered useless.

179/300
*[Iaido • Shinigami Draw]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Losing the use of one's hand or arm in a fight can be a death sentence, but Iaido has found a simple, elegant response to this desperate situation. Using their free hand, the practitioner momentarily braces the edge of their sword against the inside of the scabbard before drawing. While it does not confer the instant acceleration benefit of its parent technique, this Discipline does allow the practitioner to use Iaido techniques at their normal speed even with only one hand.

Jutsu being taughtShow
*[Iaido • Last Breath]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
The most iconic (and most basic) strike of Iaido, the practitioner quickly draws and cuts with their blade in a wide arc in one fluid motion. This simultaneous draw and attack straight from the scabbard makes Iaido well-suited for an initial surprise attack and for taking advantage of openings presented by the opponent.

[Festival] What to do?

Post by chocochipgamer » Sat Apr 22, 2023 12:56 am

She watched as he eyed his weapon. The amount of familiarity she saw in that one look all but sent her heart into her stomach. This wasn’t going to be any normal training session with someone from the academy. This was going to be something of application and substance. Her eyes carefully watched every movement he made. Her ears tried to tune out the samurai as she heard them take position around the ring. He made a comment about doing their best and she chuckled in her mind. ’His worst day would outclass my best without breaking a sweat,’ she mused to herself.

He’d been in the war around Tea. Somehow, that hadn’t surprised her. The smile he shared was oddly comforting in the moment, and she felt herself smile in return. Her village hadn’t had any interaction with those in the war, thankfully, but they had met people that had. The stories she had heard were mixed in their portrayals of those fighting, so she never paid them too much mind. Sachi had always preferred to meet people herself to gather an opinion of them. His mention of having trained in Old Tea didn’t surprise her as he watched how he handled himself.

“I wouldn’t really know too much about the samurai way, it’s still new to me. I grew up in River Country, but moved into New Tea for schooling only a few years ago,” her voice, while coming off as mostly calm and conversational, held the absolute faintest hint of sadness. Regardless of the tone, her face showed a smile steeped in fond memories. Her eyes sparkled a little as she seemed to ponder a memory of some kind even in that moment. However, as he began to speak again, she nodded. The look on her face changed to one of focus and desire to learn. Her eyes closed as she listened to his words.

’Focus, breathe.’ His voice rang in her ears as she followed how his body moved, attempting to mirror it with her own. In fact, she almost literally mirrored him. She widened her stance, attempted to ground herself, opened her hips, straightened her back, even held her bokken to her side as if it were, truly, a sheathed blade. Her own body, while nowhere near as relaxed as he was, seemed more relaxed than she had been a moment ago. That is, until he spoke again. Sachi coughed a little as he pointed out he was royalty. Before she could react to his words, he gave a demonstration.

She could barely follow his movement. Everything in her told her to run the moment he took his step forward. The only thing that stopped her was the training in the back of her mind told her it wasn’t enough to close the gap between them. Her body was stone still, almost like a rabbit trying to hide from a fox. The tip of the bokken cracked through the air and her ears seemed slightly stunned by the sound. Not pained, just, well, none of the instructors she had did THAT when they demonstrated the form. As quickly as he struck the blade through the air, he was going through the motion of sheathing a blade. When he gestured for her to try, she all but cackled. But, she would. How else would she learn if she didn’t try?

’Ground your stance.’ She tried to replay his words in her mind. Her feet settled, but she kept herself on the balls of her feet. ’Relax your muscles.’ Her body relaxed, almost like one would see a crane do as it dangled a beak above the water’s surface, looking for a snack. ’Keep a light grip.’ Her left hand rested patiently on the hilt of her bokken, her fingers holding it only tight enough to maintain its position. ’Then, draw!’ Her hand flexed, the bokken slid from her hip, and she stepped forward with a solid bit of speed (Speed 10). The “blade” sliced through the air in an arc that seemed to almost aim up. Once the motion was done, she looked over her posture. There were gears turning, internal critiques being made, things like that. After another moment, she mimicked his motions again and returned the bokken to her hip with a smooth movement. The action of actually doing something seemed to distracted her, causing her to forget the title he had so calmly mentioned.

“Okay, how was that?” she asked as she quirked a brow toward him. Her posture shifted a little, relaxing a touch as she went from action to focused listening. As she waited for his response, she tossed the bokken from her left hand being dominant to her right hand. She repeated the process, but was a bit faster than before in her set up. Her feet adjusted for a right hand draw, opening her hips in the same way, and keeping her back straight. She settled into the stance, making sure to keep on the balls of her feet and not settle too much. All the while, her body relaxed around the movements, calming herself. Her hand rested on the hilt of the bokken, mimicking that of a coiled snake about to wrap around prey. After a second of breathing, she released the breath with a step at the same speed. She drew the bokken from her hip and sliced through the air. Again, the blade went up, slightly, what would be about center mass on, well, Yozei. She repeated the process of eyeing her positioning and making mental notes before she went through the process of returning the bokken to her hip. Now, her posture was far more relaxed.

*[Iaido • Ancestral Focus]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The hallmark of Iaido is its practitioners abilities to launch an attack even when their swords are sheathed. This Discipline represents the practitioner's capacity to consistently execute a sword draw and slash all in one movement by gripping the edge of the scabbard and pulling the scabbard slightly forward before drawing the sword. This Discipline enables the practitioner to immediately draw their sword and attack at the start of combat.

Fanho walked past the stalls at Pebble Country. He came on the envoy of Konoha troops. One last village festival before the ides of war could be felt on the horizon. He himself wasn’t being deployed, the future Hokage had other affairs to attend to, not to mention the Fire Country leadership feared any sort of secondary attack on the country. While Water Country was on the precipice of war as well, it didn’t stop the many political heads from fearing an attack out of the blue. With a sigh Fanho scratched the back of his neck as he stretched his back out. It felt good to at least get out and walk around, see the country side he had been touring before he came back home.

A flash of red hair caught the corner of Fanho’s eye as he gazed over one of the training fields finding one of Takeo’s many spawn training along side of a woman Fanho had never met. Despite that it wasn’t unusual, after all this festival was a sort of cease fire they could all get along. Though this woman didn’t seem to be anyone that’d cause a side eye from Konoha, perhaps an allied state or certainly friendly one. Now come to think of it, he never really got a chance to meet Yozei either. Well no time like the present he decided.

Fanho walked behind the two to avoid having to do any sword dodging. He waved as he called out to the two. “Room for one more? Four may be a party, but three is moderately manageable. Right?”

The Awai ruffled Yozei’s hair, disregarding any and all political behavior “I’m not a sword fighter like Yozei here so I probably can’t teach you any fancy swinging, but I’m sure I can be some kind of punching bag. Name’s Awai, Fanho. I’m from lil’ ol’ Fire Country too, Konoha to be specific.” Fanho snapped his fingers as he pointed at Sachi, “Sachi was it? Pleasure to meet you.”

“Maybe you two could team up, practice your team work against me.”

Suzuko's place in the timeline didn't make a whole lot of sense right now, but we're going to roll with it for the sake of being social and training at a discount, and anyone who wants to mess with it can fight me, I'll put up my dukes right now.

The girl was terrified in many ways. She'd been brought forward to this event as a representative of her country, being told this was the first foray into the pilot program where she'd be expected to travel from country to country and meet students and teachers of the great ninja villages, and while she'd been asked if she wanted to volunteer, she didn't feel much like she'd volunteered when she'd said yes. The kind of pressure she felt was immense, and she felt that if she'd said no, there would be a lot more disappointment in her, and that was the kind of anxiety-inducing thought she couldn't handle.

Not only that, but she'd been picked by some young Kisama clan upstart to test out these stuffy steam-powered puppets. Similar ones had been used in the past by the empire, 'mules' they'd been called, only used by soldiers to transport large quantities of goods and coal from place to place, but now a small program was being initiated to make them useful in battle. Before their sluggish speed meant that they'd never act as more than their namesake, mules, but supposedly they'd found ways to make them keep up with their riders...

Which left Suzuko standing in front of one inside of a tent, her Kisama sponsor standing proudly on the other side of it, gushing about its intricacies and how much work he'd put into it, testing it out himself so he knew it was safe... Suzuko stared, somewhat terrified at the thing that belched steam and rumbled and shook loudly. The back was open currently, and with a bit of instruction and a lot of hesitancy, Suzuko stepped inside, one leg and one arm at a time, filling in the space between where the cushions pushed on her from all sides...

And in a lot of ways it was comfortable to have this pressure surrounding her, and in other ways... Well, it stunk. Whatever cloth padding the Kisama clansman had used he'd obviously extensively tested it himself, and it smelled something awful of stench like the indoor training grounds back at the academy. She gagged a bit, but held it in. This enclosed space would be an awful one to throw up in.

Awkwardly, she tried walking as she normally would, and nearly fell over. Again, a few more pieces of instruction pushed her in the right direction, and she had to change how she moved her body from a normal walking motion to more of a sweeping glide for each step, awkwardly swinging her arms to keep the momentum of the machine going... And before she knew it, she was stepping out of the bounds of their personal tent, and out under the giant shadow of the iron banner. It was dark, and perhaps more importantly, it was VERY difficult to see out of this thing, and VERY difficult to move. She tried to speak back at the Kisama clansmen who sent her on her way, but her voice was entirely muffled by the padding.

There were improvements to be made still, for sure, as she started to stumble along. Nobody would really be able to tell who she was inside of this thing, and she couldn't make out anyone's facial features between the darkness of the iron banner, and the thick shrouding of the iron golem she found herself riding in, meaning she didn't even recognize that she was stumbling up to a group of people that, if they saw her face, might recognize her from the Heart academies.

With the aid of this maneuver, Suzuko can hop, crawl, step, or any other adjective into her puppet armor at a moment's notice, even able to pull it out of her bag and step in one smooth maneuver to waste absolutely no time in getting battle-ready.

[Festival] What to do?

Post by Izanagi » Sat Apr 22, 2023 12:47 pm

Yozei nodded, acknowledging that the woman was still learning the way of the samurai. He had never been to River country but he knew that the legendary Iiyashi Fuhen, the Grand Shogun of the Heart Empire was proudly born in River country. “You followed Fuhen-Sama then? I’ve heard he’s an inspiring man” he said. Their paths had crossed before, during the Fur country festivals nearly a decade ago now, but he had never spoken to the man directly and back then he was simply a folk legend, a good natured wanderer, not the great leader he had become now. As he spoke Yozei maneuvered the practice sword with one hand, testing his ability to utilize the weapon one handed if need be. It wasn’t preferred, certainly slower but he could manage if necessary. It was essential, as a shinobi and a samurai to not rely entirely on needing both of one’s hands.

He watched carefully as the young woman mirrored his stance. She seemed to be attentive, a quick learner or at least she had enough of a foundation to have been shown the basics before. If she had graduated the Tea country academy after all then surely she would have been given basic Iaido instruction. It would be a refresher course for the most part then, but with the boon of the enchanted Iron Banner hanging over them, any training would adhere to them more strongly. “That was good” he praised her initial form. “Make sure to really snap at the end. Relaxed, calm, grounded and then like a whip become hard and grip firmly at the moment of impact” he instructed. ”Your follow-through was good but you should try striking me for real now” he suggested. The two were still standing out of measure, a few meters between them.

First, he would demonstrate the feeling of being at an overwhelming disadvantage. Sliding his steps forward in a careful, measured way he closed the distance marginally. It didn’t seem like much but it put her within his effective striking range and any trained swordsman would recognize that immediately. Then, he would lash out with another Iaido draw, but this time his technique changed ever so slightly. An even more efficient movement and turn of his wrist as he accelerated his muscles even more quickly than before. Ultimately the difference was that the attack was less telegraphed and despite the sword moving at the same speed as it had before this time there would be almost no reaction time for the young woman , and in fact she likely wouldn’t be able to perceive it all.

The wooden bokken would stop just short of the right side of her neck and then he would give her a slow, playful tap before sliding back out of measure and “re-sheathing” his training weapon. “That’s how it should look and feel, but I suspect you aren’t as new to kenjutsu as you let on. I may have more combat experience but the academies in New Tea have given you a strong foundation” he praised. There were some things an amateur simply couldn’t master from their first lessons and the way she carried herself and chained her body mechanics together belied the years of training, even if the lessons were only fundamentals.

As Fanho approached, the samurai dipped their heads to the man and allowed him to pass, not that they could stop him if they tried. Though Fanho hadn’t fought in the war alongside the samurai as Yozei and Zakuro had done, he was nonetheless a well-known figure throughout all of Fire country and by this point most of the world. One of Konoha’s many young and up and coming Bannin he had made quite the name for himself over the years. Even outside of Konoha, those with connections would know this man to be the front-running candidate to become the 18th Hokage of Konoha, replacing Yozei’s father, Natsuki Takeo who had led Konoha for the last 15 years. It was interesting that both Takeo’s inauguration and the former Daimyo’s coronation had been in the same year. And now Harukatsu Itoku, Yozei’s grandfather had stepped down and Toshikane Keitai had become Daimyo earlier that year. It would be a new age. Takeo and Itoku had brought expansion and created a network of powerful alliances, even working together with Kumo to build railways throughout the country and Suna to develop a teleportation network and public libraries and schools that anyone within their alliance could gain access to. But that had come at the cost of a bloody war. Itoku and Takeo were men of ambition, but Fanho was a shining light of hope and together with Keitai’s more conservative views and hopes for peace there seemed to be a new era on the horizon.

Spinning around as he heard the voice of the approaching man from behind, Yozei gripped his bokken with his offhand, holding it in a reverse grip as he demonstrated a wide, sweeping slash ideal for fending off an ambush form behind. For all the calm he projected, he was not unscathed from the war or the various kidnappings and assassination attempts he had endured. Slowly lowering the weapon he sighed in relief, “Fanho! You startled me” he smiled and approached, clasping the man on the back in a half-hug as the Awai ruffled his hair. How long had it been? 7? 8 years? Since they had seen one another. Not since before the war. Back in the days of the Star country festival where Yozei famously held his own against Kazekage Kiyori in a tournament bout, losing by split decision. They had traveled together a few times to such international events, but before that Fanho was simply known as a friend of the family. Even back then Takeo had taken the teenager under his wing and was grooming him to become Hokage one day. Only a few years older than himself, Yozei had always looked up to Fanho and seen him like a big brother even if they didn’t spend as much time together as he would have liked. Ultimately it was Zakuro who became more of a mentor figure and friend to him growing up but he always heard stories of Fanho and would occasionally see him around the house visiting his parents or even making smalltalk over family meals. Those first five years after coming to Konoha at the age of 8, Yozei had felt distant and out of place but he recalled Fanho being one of the few people that genuinely made him feel welcome in the village.

He kept the hug brief, moving back a few steps, but there was genuine relief and happiness across his face. He would let the man made his introductions uninterrupted and then smile again, finding himself remembering the people in Konoha that he had left behind for his duties as a Prince. He had family there and friends he hadn’t seen in a very long time. He wondered what Nikuya was doing these days and if Zakuro was doing well. He had fought alongside the man during the war but it had been over a year since they had seen one another. “It’s been a long time Fanho. It’s good to see you” he acknowledged. “You were always so much better than me, but I have gotten a little stronger” he said. While he might have peaked at 16 he had honed his talents and added a few things to his repertoire. He would nod at the challenge and slide back into his stance before dashing forward quickly as he moved to accelerate as fast as possible. He knew Fanho was faster than him, he had become a Bannin at 17 after all while Yozei was still a Jounin. But perhaps Fanho would underestimate him, after all Yozei’s greatest talents had always been his proficiency with Katon and physical speed had never been something he relied on or utilized much. But now, he boasted an impressive 37 Speed, well above that of many Jounin but not quite on par with the true pinnacle of being a shinobi that was the Bannin rank. As he dashed to the Bannin’s right side and slashed with 20 Strength, his bokken would move with such speed that it generated a blast of blunted wind that would act as a secondary attack that would move with 37 Speed but only impact with 10 Strength.

While Yozei tested Fanho’s speed the samurai around the perimeter would take notice of the mech approaching. The one samurai guarding that side would approach, watched closely by two others. “Halt. I don’t think so. You’re not going anywhere near the Prince in that thing” he commanded, attempting an authoritative voice but their was a wariness to how he approached and the men behind him already gripped their swords and glanced around for local Pebble country samurai, deciding whether they would be permitted to take matters into their own hands.
Jutsu TrainedShow
Shinigami Draw 179+121=300/300
300/300

*[Iaido • Death’s Gate]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Speed.
Drawing upon the superlative speed of Iaido, the practitioner momentarily torques the muscles in their body to draw their sword from its scabbard and deliver a blindingly fast slash before sheathing their blade. Properly reading this attack requires the opponent to have a Perception technique of equal or higher rank than this technique. Otherwise, they cannot accurately read the attack and will be unlikely to completely avoid the attack, if at all.
300/300

*[Iaido • Shinigami’s Wrath]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Speed.
A technique refining the concept of targeting multiple opponents with a single draw, the practitioner uses their sheath hand to reverse grip the hilt. Using the one hand, the practitioner quickly torques their body and cuts with a reverse hand slash a full 360 degrees before immediately sheathing the blade. This technique can strike multiple opponents at once, and the reverse grip of the sword allows the practitioner to more easily defend against counterattacks immediately after.

300/300

*[Iaido • Peace in Death]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Speed.
An abnormally aggressive technique in Iaido, this technique serves as a preemptive counter, attacking the opponent in the split moment between drawing back to prepare an attack and launching said attack. Violently torquing the muscles in their legs, the practitioner more quickly accelerates to their maximum speed (or instantly accelerating to their max speed if their Strength is equal or higher than their Speed) than with normal movement. With this movement, the practitioner bolts toward the opponent and launches an attack, cutting the opponent as they pass to their side. This technique can be used while moving to immediately change direction instead before launching the attack. Properly reading this attack requires the opponent to have a Perception technique of equal or higher rank than this technique.

300/300
*[Iaido • Phantom Funeral]
B-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 35 Speed.
The superlative speed of Iaido is harnessed to attain seemingly supernatural feats. By momentarily torquing the muscles in their arms, the practitioner manages slashes so fast that they spawn vacuum blades that follow the trajectory of their original attack. This attack spawns a single vacuum blade that travels up to a number of meters equal to half the practitioner's Speed, rounded down, and hits with 1/2 the Strength of the original attack, rounded down. If this technique is used in tangent with a melee attack, the vacuum blade strikes immediately after the original attack is finished, potentially sealing the opponent's guard and creating an opening. This technique can be used in conjunction with other techniques.

Sachi kind of gave a half nod and shrug as he brought up Fuhen. “I know he led the lands, but I’ve never met him. The village I grew up in was made up of only about 30ish people,” her voice gave another reminiscent ring as she spoke. Her eyes softened as she looked over some old memories. She shook her head, shaking free of the thoughts. She watched as he seemed to ponder the use of the sword in a single hand. Something she had always heard and took to heart was that relying on both hands to fight was the kind of thing that could get you killed in a fight. Even in the wild, animals learned to fight in a way that showed balance. There was no favoring one side or the other. To go beyond that, there were plenty of times when she had seen an animal that lost a limb learn to compensate for the loss with other limbs and tactics.

Fighting like an animal, it was something that had always caught her attention. They relied on their senses and instincts. That was something she wanted to work on more. Opening herself up to using those kinds of skills. Sachi focused her mind, trying to shut away the concept of smell, taste. With doing that, she hoped she could tighten the senses around sound, sight, and touch. If she could hear the footsteps of those around her, see every muscle twitch or eye movement, feel a change in the air around her, maybe it would help compensate for her lack of strength. His voice grew clearer in her ears, she watched as his adam's apple moved with each word spoken. Something in her quieted. Not calm, but still. Like a deer watching for the hunter’s next move when they knew they had been spotted.

There, something in his tone changed. His feet moved, but she didn’t see it. She heard it?! She swore she felt the air change as his body moved closer to her own. Again, she couldn’t see the movement and it almost frustrated her. But instinct was taking control. He was so fast. Her eyes, as untrained as they were, couldn’t keep up with his movements. Thankfully, her ears were working to compensate. Eyes had to see, to translate, then her brain had to comprehend what was even being seen. When it came to sound, it was simpler. Threat had already been perceived and it had quickly moved closer. Because the translation of information didn’t require as much contemplation, her brain could force her body to react that much faster. Now, in this case, the debate would be whether or not she could even do anything about having that information to begin with. Suppose it was time for that instinct portion to kick in.

Her feet shifted on blind instinct. He was stepping closer, but was technically still out of her range when he had stepped. The small woman lurched forward on pure instinct with a 10 Speed step. In her logical mind, she knew she’d never be able to dodge an attack from this man, but her body had its own ideas, apparently. One of the things she had been taught was that she would need to be in close for a fight. Because of how small she was, bringing her striking zone so close to her opponent where they would have a hard time maneuvering around her would be one of her best strategies in a fight. It was also one of the riskiest things she could do. However, when running on pure instinct, the best way to stop a fight is to strike down the other guy, right? So, her feet carried her closer.

The most she knew was which hand the weapon was in, so that decided where she would move. The apparent goal was to move to the hand that was drawing the weapon. If one could stop the blade from being drawn, one could stop the attack. It was almost amusing to see how slow she was compared to Yozei. Much to her dismay, by the time her body had truly started to move, she felt the playful tap at her neck. Almost like she was coming out of a trance, she looked at what had happened. She had stepped closer, the bokken was at her neck, and he had given her a tap. Her body snapped back to her, away from solely acting on instinct. She leaned herself back and took the same step away from him. Maybe all the concepts she had been looking to train had finally started to cement themselves into her mind. As he spoke, she nodded and visibly pondered over what had just happened. “I didn’t even see what happened, but it’s like my body decided to move on its own,” she said with a bit of confusion in her tone.

She could hear more steps approaching. One set of footsteps belonged to a person taller than the man in front of her. He wasn’t unnoticed by Yozei and she saw how quick his own instincts were. Her eyes were wide in awe as she watched the swordsman react. The bokken’s grip was switched and carried into a wide arc. When she saw the way he smiled at the other man, she let out a breath she didn’t know she had been holding. He had asked if there was room for another to join in the training. As the two showed a jovial and friendly moment, she nodded. “Of course. Pleasure to meet you, sir. And, yes,” her smile was warm, and thoughtful. Clearly, the demonstration was still on her mind.

When he suggested the two work together against him, she stifled a full belly laugh. “I mean, me being on either of your sides might be a handicap for the other. I’m actually better with my hands than with a weapon, but I’m going to guess I couldn’t hold a candle to either of you,” her voice was happy even if her words showed a small amount of self-deprecation. As the sounds of heavy steps continued, it almost snapped her back to attention. Any more spooked and the hair on her arms and neck may actually stand on end, but she turned to glance where the sound of heavy steps were coming from.

“What the hell?” her voice was curious, shocked, and, well, whaaa? She looked the steam powered contraption from top to bottom and back again. At the moment, she was glad Yozei’s men had stopped it before it wandered into the training ring and caused a scene. From the way things looked, the operator may not have been completely aware of exactly where they were. She could see what may have been an attempt at a view port, but the area was dark enough she doubted they were having an easy go of it. The metal and glass had to have been thick considering how heavy it looked with each motion. She turned to the men around her in hopes they knew who this was. “Do, uh, either of you know the big can?” she gestured a thumb.

Skitter Step:
Skitter Step
The Skitter Step is a style that relies heavily on the user's senses. The style itself is a mesh of quick, fast, and wild punches, kicks, and jumps. Due to the user altering their senses, every bit of movement is heard and, since they can start to respond to things instinctively, they can respond to things that normally wouldn't have been able to be heard/seen/done. In addition to the heightened senses, users are normally in a "paranoid" state, where they start to suspect things that aren't always there.

If overused, the style can lead to paranoia in individuals, along with constant fidgeting, making experts in the style quite well known for these activities.
  • Requires: [Acrobatics] and [Perception]
  • Requires *[Skitter Step • Senses Open] prerequisite to learn any other jutsu.
*[Skitter Step • Senses Open]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
The main jutsu of the Skitter Step, the practitioner takes a moment to focus their bodies, then releases it. While in this stance, the practitioner's sensory input is increased, allowing them to receive more information quickly. This Stance grants a +2 in Strength and a +4 in Speed but a -3 in Willpower and -3 in Control. This Stance will remain in effect until deactivated by [Stop]. Practitioners of this technique will find themselves fidgeting and constantly moving, which can make it difficult for the practitioner to use this style in a stealthy manner.

D-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: A form of Senses Open used.
The counter-balanced Discipline to Outside Dodge. Having mastered this Discipline, when the practitioner is actively using Skitter Step while in close-quarters combat, their body instinctively dodges to the inside of an attack which keeps them centered on their opponent's torso. These dodges are only successful if their Speed is greater than the Speed of the attack

The Awai nodded at Yozei’s jovial welcomes and Sachi’s greeting. For Yozei was true it had been a while, but there was no time like the present. For Sachi, since she was a Heart Empire native he was certain they’d see each other. After all the relationship between the two nations had been growing strong. As Yozei said a little self deprecation and Sachi partook, Fanho shook his head and gave Yozei a pat on the back as he did a hand wave. ”Hah, talking like that you guys’ll hold yourselves back. Its not about comparing to others, its about getting better than you were yesterday.”

It was then Yozei intended to attack. A little quick on the draw, but what better way to start a sparring session. Fanho saw as Yozei dashed in close to the right flank, swinging his boken with deadly precision, Fanho reached both hands. One grasping the boken and sucking all the kinetic energy from the swing. Yozei would feel his practice sword shutter to a sudden stop as Fanho’s hand grasped around it. However this didn’t stop the air blast coming in, in which Fanho’s second hand palm outwards absorbed the force generated from the wind as it sort of imploded from within giving a little toot.

Almost as if on cue, the hulking robot had sauntered up to the field. Fanho raised an eye brow at Yozei as his eyes jetted back and forth between all of them on the field. Yozei, Sachi, himself, the samurai guards, the robot, Yozei, Sachi, and well quite frankly he was seeing if any of them knew what was going on cause he hadn’t.

Fanho let go of Yozei’s bokken and dusted his hands off as he walked towards the samurai. He clapped a hand on either of their backs as Fanho raised his hands to lower them in an effort to calm the samurai. “Easy fellas, even Yozei can handle himself alright. I get it though security formality and all that.” Fanho grabbed the suit as he hoisted himself up hanging off from a hand hold he found at the top. The Bannin gave a knock on the suit as he peered all over the front trying to find the eye holes. “Hello?”

The Awai hoisted himself on top of the puppet mech as he looked at the back for a hatch. The Awai kept his balance steady as he scratched his head trying to figure out how it worked. He wasn’t a Suna puppet master by trade, so this sort of thing escaped his expertise of punching things. “It might be easier to hear each other if you pop it open, y’know?”

As she stumbled around and started to find her comfort in the puppet, it became clear she'd maybe... bumped into someone? It was actually hard to tell still. Not only was it dark under the iron banner, but whatever view port she'd been given had so few spaces for her to look through that she had to constantly move her head around inside the puppet to catch glimpses of people around her. She heard someone talking, but the muffled nature of the speech through the heavy padding made it difficult to tell what could even possibly be going on. All the same she spoke back: She'd said something like "excuse me kind sirs, I am just passing through and don't want to knock you over by mistake, this thing is somewhat difficult to control." What came out of the puppet, on the other hand, was...
phpBB [video] Goro laughed in a corner somewhere. She couldn't tell, but they looked ready to draw their weapons when a third figure approached them, all a blur to her through the awkward screen of the puppet. She was already sweating quite intensely inside the thing, the steam engine being quite warm to start with, and her muscles were moving in all kinds of ways that they weren't necessarily used to trying to make this giant puppet move, and she was starting to become exhausted already. She heard a rather loud thud as the third figure suddenly climbed his way up on to her puppet, which was quite rude.

Her arms swung in clunky maneuvers, looking somewhat panicked as they reached up and over to Fanho trying to pluck him off. Suzuko also decided she needed to take a fresh breath, and while the arms continued to do their thing, Suzuko adjusted her body inside of the puppet, scrunching her body up against the back panel as she searched for the release to open the latch from the inside, her feet playing with the controls on the inside, hitting the wrong buttons here and there... Before she finally popped the latch open, sticking her upper body out and taking a deep, deep breath with wide eyes, sweat pouring down every inch of her head and face.

"Ventliation!" She screamed out at the top of her lungs, which got a loud "Got it!" coming from the tent she'd originated from, and she rested her rear on the open edge of the hatch to look around for a moment catching up with what was going on around her. "Fanho...?" She asked confused, wiping some sweat from her eyes. "What're you doing here?" She said, adjusting her sitting stance a little bit, maneuvering her feet around inside the puppet and causing the arms to swing wildly once more, almost unbalancing and unseating her before she regained control. "Jeeze, this thing is too much... A lot cooler than the tractors in the fields, though!" She commented off hand, looking down into the cockpit to see what her legs were doing to get these kinds of reactions from the puppet.

Kasuri walked calmly toward the place where the others of pebble country, terrible name, Ayago interjected into her thoughts, were practicing. She had learned the art of observing while masters worked and had become quite adept at it.

You believe that you are able to absorb the necessary means to defend yourself and your country when you are just sitting here watching others? Ayago asked Kasuri incredulously as Kasuri took a seated position, her eyes, the color of deep jade scanned the field while the others were training.

"An arrow only finds its mark after leaving the bow, but knows where it must go because of the eyes of the Kyudo master." She spoke aloud to her spirit weapon, who hung at her side in the form of a sword. She could almost feel Ayago roll her non-existant eyes. Ayago was in a rather good mood all things considered, having heard that there was an iron banner that was supposed to be something that the villages could come together under and train with each other. She was less than enthused that Kasuri, being a girl of little wants for fighting, and more for artistry, had found the shopping, the craftsmen, and the solitary training of firing arrows into a target more rewarding than actual training of any sort. This girl was hopeless, truly, and Ayago wanted to shake that from her.

You do know that samurai men are attracted to women who are strong, independent, and poised. Ayago was trying to play match-maker again, knowing full well that Akiko was the woman that Kasuri had her eye set on right now. Kasuri set down the basket that she had been carrying, food supplies in it and took out a bento, one of six, in case she met friends. She had hoped to meet others here, and to train with them elsewhere, but so far had come up rather short on that front.

"I know that talking to myself every five seconds will probably make them less interested in me, and will shatter the façade of poise that you're so desperately trying to shunt onto me." Kasuri watched the puppet moving mechanically through the training grounds, not 200 meters away. The figures were small, but she could see them quite clearly with her trained kyudo archery eyes. There was a lacking of the details that she would have needed to accurately see hand-signs or anything of the sort, but she was far enough away, she told herself, that she shouldn't be bothered by any of them.

I fancy the red-headed gentleman, watch his movements and you can see that he is nobility. Perhaps he would make you a fine husband. Ayago persisted, forever trying to separate her from Akiko so that she could carry on the line of the people of heart country. "You would." It was only recently that she had found rank in heart's samurai system, and that was only due to her parents' insisting that they could run the dojo without her for a long while, while she figured out who she was, and followed the destiny that Ayago, the weaver, had said she would take.

For now, however, that destiny involved food, and the careful voyeurism of watching others train. After all, training one's mind was equally, if not more important than training one's body.

Yozei had felt the shift in the young woman as she embraced her senses. In his Theta state he was able to observe every twitch of her muscles and anticipate her movements. He recognized her keen instincts, Sachi was a quick learner and had incredible potential. Despite her presenting herself as a novice he felt as if he were facing off against a seasoned fighter or perhaps a dangerous animal. His own instincts urged him not to take her lightly. And sure enough, as he moved, he noticed her muscles twitch in response. This alone was impressive, as his speed was far greater than any novice could perceive, at least visually. But one of keen instincts could learn to anticipate an attack and begin reacting based off intuition alone.

She had made a move to close the gap, barely twitching her leg before he had already lashed out with his strike, but the movement had not gone unnoticed. It was a telling reaction, most people instinctively moved away from an attack, but a trained fighter knew that there were times where it was safer to get inside of a weapon’s effective range of motion. It was the right choice, and had she been comparably fast as him it would have been a strong counter. But physical ability could come with training, one’s natural instincts and mindset however could not be so easily cultivated. The young man smiled. His cerulean blue eyes gleaming with a newfound respect. His auburn hair framed his face and a short ponytail rested against the nape of his neck. “You have good reactions. There’s a lot I could teach you” he observed. Not only Iaido but also the foundations of the Skitter Step style, he wagered she would also take naturally to the unarmed defensive style of Kugapou as well. “Perhaps I should take you on as a student” he suggested whimsically. He had only ever taken one student under his wing before, a girl named Haruka. He wondered how she was doing these days. Last he had seen of her she seemed to be progressing well and had become a friend and training partner of his younger brother, Takeshi.

However, the lessons would need to take a brief interlude, as the Bannin joined in. After their greeting, Yozei made his surprise attack at his friend and chuckled lightly when the man effortlessly dismissed the combination attack. As expected. In a way Fanho reminded him of his uncle Yoru, another Konoha Bannin. For as long as he could remember the two men were untouchable, even when he had managed to help his dad capture Yoru and bring him back to the village it didn’t quite feel real. Almost as if Yoru was letting them get the jump on him, simply looking for a reason to let himself be captured. Such men didn’t even seem human, their reactions and abilities were beyond that of mortal men. The red-haired Jounin smiled as Fanho’s words sunk in. “Better than yesterday? Yeah, you’re right. That’s a good way to look at it” he acknowledged. “I’ll keep training” he said, smiling as he accepted that he was still far out of Fanho’s league. He couldn’t remember ever seeing a technique like his, something that could completely absorb kinetic energy. He was curious to learn the extent of Fanho’s abilities but he knew this wasn’t the time or place for a serious spar. There were too many innocent people that could get caught in the crossfire if either of them got even a little bit serious.

Straightening his posture, he quirked his head as his attention shifted to the mechanical suit. That was the problem with the trance-like Theta state, he became hyper focused on one opponent at a time and outside distractions like a hulking robotic suit became mere background noise. Sachi asked if they knew the tin can and Yozei slowly shook his head back and forth, a stunned expression across his handsome face. “Can’t say that I do…what even is that?” he wondered, some kind of Kouton construct? He knew of metal release and had even seen a Kumogakure shinobi utilizes a form of metal release, but he wasn’t familiar with anything quite like this. A puppet maybe? Again, outside his area of expertise but those tended to be more ceramic from what he recalled of his visits to Sunagakure. On edge now he inhaled slowly, dropping the bokken as he swiftly withdrew a kunai. From focusing on a single target to opening his mind to everything and anything around him he suddenly became flooded with a wave of senses. His free hand twitched slightly and he found himself shifting his stance, less grounded and more like a boxers, light on his feet. “Let it through” he instructed, his voice commanding and confident. He knew that between himself and Fanho they could handle nearly any threat, short of only a select few Bannin. At least when their guards were up, but any assassin worth their pay wouldn’t be so brazen to approach in such a contraption in the midst of a highly secure festival. Not unless they planned to blow themselves up with everyone else at least.

As the hatch opened up to reveal a sweaty teenage girl, Yozei exhaled sharply and began laughing lightly to himself. He gave a dismissive look as it seemed Fanho and the girl knew each other and were catching up. Turning his attention back toward Sachi his fingers continued to twitch slightly as he bounced up and down, settling into a consistent rhythm. He heard the other woman approach, an archer he perceived out of the corner of his eye. But as beautiful as she was she wasn’t his focus right now, but he did casually gesture to his guards to let her through as well. “Alright, where were we?” he said, grinning as he looked toward his chosen student. “You said something about preferring hand-to-hand? Let’s see what you can do then” he encouraged as he flipped the kunai around, holding it in a reverse grip. Then he would dash forward suddenly at a speed of 20. As he came just before striking range he would suddenly toss the kunai with a flick of his wrist, a backhand throw to catch her off guard, aimed center mass but with only 5 speed and Strength. Then, whichever direction she moved he would aim to intercept with a spinning back fist to the face with 20 Speed and 10 Strength. But the true threat was the second kunai that he swiftly drew, holding it pummel out as he intended to wind her with a 35 Speed, 10 Strength blow to the stomach.

”...There’s a lot I could teach you.” His voice echoed in her head for a long moment. ’Did he really say that? I must have misheard.’

”Perhaps I should take you on as a student.”

Nothing she did felt that impressive. He had connected, shown just how strong he was in comparison. But, as she thought about it, there was something to learn in that. Even when faced with an overwhelming deficit of power… She still tried something. She didn’t just lock up and stand still like a terrified deer. There was a small smile as she let that logic sink in a little bit. “I wouldn’t say no. Academy is done and I don’t have anything tying me to a single spot beyond wanting to help payback the training I was given,” her tone was light, excited almost. There was a pep in her step a little more bouncy than earlier.

She relaxed for a moment as she watched the gentlemen poke at each other in a friendly fashion. Her comfortable smile held a touch of envy in it as she watched. They looked to enjoy the company of each other. That was something she somewhat missed in her own life. There weren’t many kids that had survived the years of sickness that plagued her original village, so she never really had friends. Sure, she had the adults and older kids, but the age range was so large between them. Making real, legitimate, friends was on Sachi’s list of things to finally do in life now that she was in an area where sickness was less likely to take someone from her.

While the two had their fun, she noticed the archer standing off to the side. She offered a smile and a nod to acknowledge her. At that point, she noticed Yozei’s attention switch to the puppet. When he asked what it was, she couldn’t help but speak up. “My guess is an very uncomfortable situation,” her tone was dead pan. She, however, watched as he told his guards to let them through and his entire posture changed. The confidence he exuded was impressive. One more thing for her to be a touch jealous of. At the end of the day, she knew that kind of confidence came with experience and she was just still too new to have much in that department. With time, she would likely get there.

She felt his gaze land back on her before she saw it happen. He gave a playful remark and looked ready to go. There was a rhythm to his bouncing on his toes. She tried to shift herself quickly, readying for him to come at her. He asked about her earlier comment, preferring hand-to-hand. Sachi watched as the kunai he’d drawn earlier was flipped to a reverse grip. She visibly swallowed and rattled her brain for the Kugapou she knew. Would it even work against a kunai? The principles were the same, but the timing would be harder. She’d need to be so much faster. Just then, he was moving. No time to think, only act.

Her ears twitched, her senses taking over her reactions again. Kunai, there. Coming at her so slow it didn’t make sense. She barely shifted her body toward the hand it came from, dodging the blade too easily. That was why, a spinning back fist. She knew she couldn’t entirely dodge the strike. Her only option was to take it as a glance. Her body shifted, head turned slightly with the fist, and the attack still rattled, but it was going to be nothing more than a sore jaw later. The ringing in her ears was telling, though. ’Shit, this guy is fast,’ her brain screamed at her.

Then, it was like her body was screaming at her. Another strike was coming while she was reeling from the one she had just taken. Once again, there was going to be no avoiding the blow. The best she could do was roll with it and attempt to absorb as much of the power as she could with as little injury as possible. As the strike started to barely brush her shirt, she crumpled inward against it, breathing out in a sharp breath. The tricky part was next. She had allowed the blow to crumple her, yes, but that just meant she could attempt to collapse the arm at the elbow as she, essentially, used the glance to let her stomach start to take hold of his hand.

She took her fist, fingers closed in a way to make the stereotypical “tiger paw” and rapped her knuckles into the tissue around the inside of his elbow in the hopes of collapsing the joint and bending his arm inward with a Speed 10 and Strength 6. Whether or not that worked, she knew she wanted to at least try one thing. It would likely end up with her landing on her face, but it was going to be the only time she would be able to try to hit him. As she connected her strike with his arm, aiming to collapse his arm and throw it down a little, she threw the opposite leg around. Using the momentum to carry her, between the strike and swinging her leg, she aimed a roundhouse kick to his shoulder with a Speed 10 and Strength 10. She waited for her body to land in the dirt the moment she threw the kick, part of her almost giggling at the ridiculousness of how she likely appeared. But, hell, she was having fun.

Gōkariki had heard of the massive festival that Pebble country hosts" as peacekeepers of the world" which Gōkariki found laughable war was always brewing somewhere tensions were high, and he knew for a fact it wouldn't last. But he saw the opportunity that was attending this festival. Kintsugi was going to, and he could potentially run into a few familiar faces from Konoha and more importantly Yozei a man he somewhat respected from his time spent fighting alongside him. But also to catch up and train with various ninja to see how strong he was in comparison. It was valuable time spent in order to get stronger than his own "weak" self.

He wandered from various places eating at restaurants and the like before he spotted an envoy. It was Yozei at first he hesitated something about meeting him again didn't quite feel right they were mutual but not friends, so it didn't quite feel right to interject but then again it was good to catch up and get a feel for Yozei's state of mind and how things were back home in Dragon's touch.

After following a little while he oversaw Yozei training with a few peers and randoms. One was rather substantial it was Fanho. And one was a sort of puppet that was powered by steam. Which Gōkariki could barely believe the world had advanced as he was hiding away in the land of stars.

He approached carefully as to not interrupt too quickly, but he sat nearby as he watched the exchange it was a wash if Yozei fought somewhat seriously he would likely hold back. Gōka sat nearby waiting for Yozei to spot him easily identifiable from his frame and delinquent attire.

"你好 Yozei 好久不見 (Hello it's been a while)" speaking in the tongue native to shrimp he was hoping that Yozei had learned or kept his part of learning the language up. "不尋常的看到你選擇拳而不是氣的方式 (Unusual seeing you opt for the way of the fist instead of qi)" He commented before the stocky man wanted to also possibly join in on the fun. Lightly bowing his head to everyone around him but more so to Fanho and Yozei more than anyone else "The name's Gōkariki seeing as you all are training together can I join? I'm proficient in ways of Taijutsu as you call it" The switch from language to language would likely throw a few of them off guard but thanks to Gōkariki it would come across as near flawless.

This was where his talent would be on full display if you are in the presence of Fanho and Yozei was here it was time to show what you were truly made of.

The former warrior monk popped his shoulders and squated down shiftet his weight on each leg to stretch them before hopped on the spot and was on his toes.

He entered his stance it was firm yet lose until he stepped deep into a punch then wo then three until his rapid fists would punch with blazing speed countless times and for the weaker peers it would appear as a blur.

He maintained this rush of blows for a little while before he ended with a spinning downwards elbows that he continued it's trajectory until it hit the ground casuing a minor shake from the sheer power landning him in a deep extreme backwards lean to achive this showing of his incredible flexibility despite his size. Before returning to a more natural stance.

Gōkariki could feel it once he had gotten put of his endless pit of meditation his journey for absolute strength was beginning.

Fanho looked around the site. Three was a party. Four is a crowd. Five is a herd. NOW THERE WAS A SIXTH? The Bannin palmed his forehead as he took the sight in before shrugging at Suzuko. "This is an international festival right? Every now and then I get to leave the country due to good behavior." The Bannin chuckled as he leaned over peering inside of the mech at all the gadgets, gizmos, and doo-dads. "Maybe you should uh... Let the engineers know to make the thing a bit better to see in. Doesn't seem like they thought this all the way through." The Bannin squinted before flashing a wide grin at Suzuko and hopping down off the mech dusting his hands. The Bannin helped walk Suzuko's mech to the training field, not directly in the way, but close to ensure she'd be able to participate in the conversation.

"Man there are a lot of you. Especially the one over there watching." The Bannin saw as the new comer approached the field and bowed, speaking a language Fanho heard was belonging to Shrimp Country residents, but hardly ever had Fanho seen a native. Come to think of it, Fanho never really met or seen one at all. "Gokariki was it? I'm Fanho. Shrimp country right? I don't know a lick of what you said, but it sounds cool."

The Bannin took note of Gokariki's skill. It was likely he was on par with Yozei's level. A well capable Jounin, although Yozei seemed to edge out ahead. Despite that Fanho took note to at least not under estimate him. After all lots of people can have trump cards under their belt.

As everyone showed off their moves, teaching each other, practicing, watching, giving the people's elbow to the ground. Fanho scratched his head a bit confused where to start. It kinda seemed all over the place. Almost a mess. Too many chefs, not enough kitchen. "Well we're all here, what do we do now?" Fanho could train with them although where would he step in at. The Bannin gave a frustrated sigh as lightly patted his fist into his hand in deep thought.

From her position halfway sticking out of her puppet, Suzuko turned to listen to the red-haired man who was speaking to the guards whom she just noticed were quite tense and pointy with their pointy sticks of doom. She would have been a little scared of the situation if it weren't for the omnipotent Pebble Country guards who guarded everything within the borders perfectly for a few months out of the year. It was weird when she thought about it, how come nobody had figured out how to weaponize those guys just yet? Or maybe they had, and whoever controlled the Pebble Samurai really control the world? Was this all some major government conspiracy? Did Pebble actually hold more sway over world events than the relatively small 'minor' country might imply? Were all world events actually only sanctioned by some shadowy leader within its borders?

Well, none of that mattered and the thoughts left Suzuko's mind almost as quickly as they had entered into it, likely due to some kind of global mind control that the shadow government of Pebble Country. "Thank you!" She said waving to the man who had calmed the guards for her, scanning the field to notice several like-aged Heart students all studying with people from various tribes of their own, mostly Konoha from the looks of things, and it put a smile on her face to see them all getting along so well. She had her worries about the pilot program from the get go, but things had been looking up. Despite how annoying Akihiko was, she'd had a great time in Kumo meeting the people there, and in a lot of ways it wasn't so dissimilar from the Heart Empire.

Turning back to Fanho with a smile on her face, she shifted her feet inside of the mechanized contraption she found herself in, causing it to shift its feet as well. She nodded enthusastically, pulling a notepad out from her backpack and starting to write down things like "Better to see in" and "Ventilation" or maybe even "Safe disembarkation" because looking down from her current position, halfway atop the puppet she was straddled in, she was over ten feet in the air. She was not an acrobatic god like some of the samurai and ninja present, and so being this high wasn't super comfortable for her, and if she didn't have a fear of heights before, she probably did now.

"I don't believe anyone would record your good behavior..." She teased him, crossing her arms across her chest and quirking a brow, looking down at him felt... reassuring, somehow. Even with a slight fear of heights, she felt awful high and mighty from her position atop the world. She moved her feet again, knocking against a piece of the controls that she hadn't properly gotten used to, which caused the entire puppet to shudder, before it bumped her out of her seat once, and then a second time much, much harder. "Wait!" She said, trying to get a grip on something, but it was too late.

In a mighty lurch the puppet bucked her out and off of it, sending her flying far away, and back to the tent she'd come from, leaving the puppet in place as she slowly recovered, handed the Kisama clansman her notepad, before yelling at him loud enough for everyone to hear about what just happened. How embarrassing. On the bright side, the overall 'getting used to' part of entering her puppet was a success, and regardless of the fact that it ended in minute disaster, it was a great first step for the puppeting program, and gave lots of great notes to the ones building it!

Yozei shared a kind smile, “It’s settled then. You’ll be welcome to come train in Konoha for a while. I have some business to take care of in Wind country soon but afterward I’ll meet you to start your official training” he decided. Something about this young woman seemed to emanate with raw potential. Moreover, he felt she was someone he might truly be able to connect with and take on. It was rare for him to encounter those he could trust these days, someone who wasn’t connected to his family and potentially plotting against him. But he trusted his intuition and felt Sachi was worth giving a chance.

Moving to greet Fanho briefly and then returning to face off against Sachi, he made his attacks against her and attempted to tune out the increasing stimulus from all around them. He felt the sounds, flowing through him, gears turning and metal creaking, footsteps against the grass, voices distant and near, beating hearts and every gentle exhalation. But in this moment, only Sachi mattered. Prince Yozei’s cerulean blue eyes locked onto hers. In combat, the eyes were often the most important. They could reveal so much, one’s fear or confidence. But they also tended to telegraph one’s attacks, especially so in those who lacked experience.

The Jounin surged forward, swift and purposeful he closed the distance, opening with an obvious distraction to draw her focus. His eyes darted to the slightest twitch of movement, her shoulder and her foot and then her hips. A subtle evasion, moving the kunai off her center line. It was a good reaction and one befitting of Kugapou. He had however anticipated she might try to smack the weapon out of the air as was often taught in the style they had each trained in. While it was effective it also provided openings if one could anticipate it. He had moved to the same side she had dodged toward at least, and with his speed he didn’t actually need to rely on her moving an arm away from defending her face. Nonetheless, she read his secondary attack well, stepping back as he pivoted, attacking form her right side. What could have easily been a knockout blow instead merely glanced her across the side of her head and face.

Yozei could feel it immediately, the familiar dance of gauging the speed and timing of one’s opponent. She was proving her skill once again. Such perception and timing were something only a trained fighter could manage. His left-hand dipping into his weapons holster, his finger found purchase on the ring of a kunai. Flipping it around he delivered his third strike in the span of less than two seconds. He half expected she might attempt to pivot or roll away. But he knew the likelihood of her noticing this attack was extremely low. He had killed many trained warriors with this exact technique, some he had done so even with this same level of speed. Her crumpling technique came as a surprise, and the kunai were held blade side out such a technique would be extremely dangerous and impractical. But in this situation, it was perfectly viable. Had she the presence of mind to notice he had struck with the pommel? No, how could she with her head turned away at the moment of the strike. Instead, then it had to be simply honed muscle memory. Even against a blade such a technique was better than nothing and helped to improve the likelihood of binding the weapon and protecting one’s vitals. ‘She’s incredible’ he observed, meeting her gaze once more. Smirking, his eyes beamed with pride and respect. He had truly been fortunate to find such a student.

He felt his hand and by extension kunai, binding against her midsection as she collapsed her body over him. For such a small woman she certainly knew how to use her body effectively. In fact, given her position leaning in front of him, head at his stomach level he suddenly felt his lower body was vulnerable. It was frowned upon for a Prince to train with women, but nonetheless, he had some experience with it. And if it were Revna; his personal bodyguard, he was sure he would have received a swift strike to the groin. But intuitively, he understood that his left arm was vulnerable to joint manipulation and his legs could potentially be grappled. Yozei wasn’t quite the hand-to-hand master that his father was, but he had trained diligently with some of the best instructors in the world.

It was the arm then, he realized as she struck inside his elbow. Allowing his arm to collapse slightly, he would then drive forward into her. His grip on the kunai shifted slightly, sliding his middle finger inside the ring as he dug the pommel harder into the woman’s solar plexus. He wouldn’t be able to easily draw his arm back, but he didn’t need to. For having a lean frame, Yozei was surprisingly strong, at least compared to an average person or low-ranking shinobi. But this technique would allow him to utilize that strength focused all on one point, driving from his legs and his hips and not just his arm.

From the upward angle, he practically lifted her up off the ground as she threw her kick, right leg aiming at his left shoulder. With his free hand he reached over her back, grabbing at her belt or the hem of her pants as he stepped in with his right foot, stepping behind her left as he intuitively moved to sweep the one leg she remained standing on. Her roundhouse would hit his shoulder, but the impact would be diminished by off-balancing her stance and driving her up and backward. As he drove her into the ground he wold be sure to pull back his kunai slightly so that it didn’t crack her sternum. “That was a good move” he praised, effectively falling into an open or closed guard should she have any training in grappling. Otherwise, he would simply be pinning her down, driving his shoulder down onto her and sprawling his legs out to keep a wide base. By doing so he would extend her torso and free his hand while giving himself a strong position to continue to drive his knife into her if he needed to. “Again?” he questioned, smirking. He wasn’t sure whether she would want to stand and start on their feet once again or continue their training as a grappling match. Certainly, he was less skilled in such close quarters and preferred to be more mobile, but he had still done his fair share of Jujutsu and wrestling with his father and siblings. He knew enough to get by.

It was only then that he spared a glance over to an old comrade. He had heard the man’s approach, but now he felt his presence more strongly. “您好 (nín hǎo- hello)” he greeted, opting for the more respectful version. After all, Gokariki had been his teacher back in Dragon’s Touch. He had taught him the native language of his people and their customs so that he might better understand them. While Yozei was not afraid to use force when necessary, he preferred to rule benevolently whenever possible and that meant treating his subjects with respect, compassion and dignity. “好久不见 (hǎo jiǔ bu jiàn – Long time no see) 最近在干嘛? (zuì jìn zài gàn má?) – What have you been doing recently?” he greeted, slipping into the foreign language rather comfortably. But he didn’t have the focus to have an extensive conversation with the man. Smiling back at Sachi he would extend a hand to her, helping her back to her feet and preparing to go another round with her. However, the area was getting rather crowded and he considered breaking away from the growing audience. “Should we take this elsewhere perhaps? Maybe grab some lunch along the way?” he considered, offering to spend some more quality time with the young woman. Afterall, he wanted to properly get to know his new student and he only had a few days before he was being deployed to fight to defend Wind country.

[Festival] What to do?

Post by chocochipgamer » Thu Jun 15, 2023 12:20 am

Sachi blinked hard a few times. ‘Go to Konoha to train?’ She pondered the idea, unsure of how to respond. It actually sounded like a lot of fun. Besides, it would be a great experience to see the great village up close and personal. All the stories and books she read had filled her with a thirst to see the other villages as much as she would be allowed. Since Konoha was an ally to the Heart Empire, it made sense that it would be the first she’d end up visiting. “I would love that, sir,” her tone was wildly excited, even to her surprise. The smile across her face didn’t do the tone justice, to be honest.

Finally, they moved. The motions of people trained to fight. It was hard to believe she would come out of the little spar safe considering the speed at which Yozei moved. Each motion he made was like lightning to her. The only reason she even managed to make any counters to begin with was pure, solid, instinct. It was the only thing she ever really had to lean on. Hunting wild game growing up had instilled her ability to think quickly and simply react. Worrying too much wasn’t something she struggled with terribly often, so she often looked like a wild animal when she fought.

When her final, Hail Mary of a kick came about, he saw right through it. Sachi wasn’t surprised that he had. She was slightly surprised by the strength he employed to halt her all or nothing assault, though. As she landed with her back on the ground, him, postured above her, the wind ‘whooshed’ from her chest. Her eyes fluttered for a second as she struggled to breathe. It wasn’t an extremely painful situation, but it was definitely one that she would need a moment to recover from. Though, oddly, there was a smile across her lips. One that spoke volumes about enjoying herself.

She coughed a little and just laid on the ground as she watched him speak to his friend. The language was different, not one she was familiar with. As she listened, she just worked to catch her breath. He had mentioned a small praise in her tactics and offered to continue. However, considering the beating she just took and the number of people suddenly around, she wondered if it was worth sticking around in this large of a group. Her chest heaved for a long moment before finally falling into the steady rhythm of someone exercising. Once he finished up, he offered to move locations and possibly get something to eat.

“We’re thinking along the same lines,” she said with a smile as she took the hand offered to her. Her grip was strong, but gentle. It would be hard for him to not notice the calluses on her hands. The calluses one might expect a fighter to have seemed to be layered atop those more commonly seen from hard labor. “I think I might need a break after that last round. You definitely showed your training. I’ll follow your lead.” There was a hint of laughter in her words at this point. More the kind that hinted at playfulness or amusement than outright entertainment. When she returned upright, she let go and carefully brushed herself off. She stood attentively, but with no set look of expectation if someone else wanted to speak to him.

[Festival] What to do?

Yozei seemed pleasantly surprised which Gōkariki relieved him to a small degree. No tension or anything just a pleasant feeling overall. "Wa???" Gōkariki looked at Yozei in a confused face to fool Yozei into thinking he was unintelligable but he understood perfectly in truth.

A short smile grew on his face before letting Yozei know the truth. "Nah your pronuncation is pretty good needs a bit of refinement here and there but overall it's good! Have you been practicing?" As his teacher What I have been doing recently? Honestly? I don't know lost of soul searching you could call it. " A soft yet lost smile appeared on Gōkariki's stoic and angry looking face. A smile that was more of a demonstration to cover up what Gōkariki's inner doubt somethjiing though he would never admit. He doubted the fact that it even was soul searching or if it was just a way to hide away from his problems. "Forget it! We are here to train and not dwell on the past."

After his flurry och punches Gōkariki would focus on yet another technique anything it touches would be destoryed as per usual for his style. He would calmy perform a kata flowing from one stance into another every strike would be seemless.

It would be a oddly calm display of martial arts. A stark contrast to his previous technique

He would flow from kata to kata like water until all of a sudden his ryes would turn fierce as if he had killing intent. After he would evasivally flow backwards and strike with both his hands in a claw like fashion. The wind would be pushed back from the sudden force then afterwards he would immediately end his kata and flow back into a neutral stance.

His rageful aura would simer back down to normal along with him returning to his more relaxed fighting stance.

Gōkariki will real back fluidly and evasively before smashing both his claw fists into his opponent at the same time. Causing his enemy to fly back while also having the destructive ability to break bones. For every 1 point of strength he has over his opponent they will be pushed back an equal of 5 meters and if they have durability lower than 5 of Gōkariki's strength the chest will receive major fractures and the stomach will be ruptured.
