ARAKI RIO
The Iron Lady

["It's time someone cleaned the scum off all of our boots."]

General Information Age: 14
Gender: Female
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 138 Lbs
Physical Features:
  • Face/head: Rio has ash-like, grey hair that falls upon a fragile, doll-like face. Her eyebrows are a darker grey, not quite matching her hair. Her facial features can be described as soft and her light-brown eyes have a sort of vacant feeling to them. Overall she's the classic girl-next-door yet the red tattoos up the side of her face hint that she is something far, far more.
  • Body: Rio is well-built and supple for her age but leans more on the athletic build than that of the women who worked the brothels in the village where she grew up.
  • Notable Features:
    - Red tattoos that stem from her jawbone to her cheeks, almost tribal in nature
    - Her left hand is scarred with burns from where she touched a hot pot as a child by mistake
Clothing/Accessories:
In general, Rio wears the same clothes as any poor peasant. IT's effectively a long-sleeved jinbei, generally with a tunic or poncho over it. Despite having the potential to be a beautiful woman sought after by young lords, her existence coming from poverty has led her to instead be dirt-covered child with no sense of style. No accessories, earrings, or gifts most women get and use to charm. After all, who would waste money giving such a gift to a pauper?
Personality:
  • General: Rio is an exceptionally clever girl who often wins not through strength, but her ability to think on her feet and use her surroundings. Unfortunately, her anger often gets the better of her, and when it does, she can tilt quite a bit.
  • Hopes/Dreams: Rio is just an angry youth who wishes to get revenge on those who've wronged her or others.
  • Fears: Rio is too naive to have any true fear; she does hate spiders though.
  • Combat Mentality: Rio is first-and-foremost a gunslinger. She uses her surroundings to try and get the better of her opponents and pick shots at them from advantageous positioning.

ArmorShow
Ryuuhagane Helmet
Made of the legendary dragon iron from Dragon Country, the Ryuuhagane helmet has immense durability rated at 50 strength despite being ultra-lightweight. It is a silver steel helmet similar to a roman design with a black visor covering the eyes and face. The helmet was modified by Hasegawa Sega to also have poison filters effective against A-Rank and below poisons and a thermal monitor in the visor capable of giving the wearer toggleable heat vision with a rating of up to A-Rank perception stealth techniques.

For Rio's other armor, she wears a set of armor left to her by her late father. It's made of impeccably light, but rigid and strong steel. It's been reforged to a degree to fit her body and tempered for added strength.

Abilities and Concentrations
Unknown Ancestry (2 Ability Slots):
One of Rio's ancestors had a unique physiology not found in the modern human. As their descendant Rio has their mutation that causes her body to naturally absorbs chakra in the environment around her at all times. As a result:

[1] Rio's wild, near-translucent white hair is prehensile, moving and growing as if it was a limb or part of her body, at [Strength] and [Speed] up to [Endurance] x 2 meters long. The years of natural chakra absorption has left the composition of her hair irreversibly changed such that it is reinforced to a durability of [Strength]. Her hair oils provide waterproofing and fireproofing proportionate to their durability, and prevent chakra or energy attacks from traveling up her hair to her body.

[2] Rio's organs have mutated such that she has a hyper-metabolism. This means that any substance that enters her body is broken down and removed incredibly quickly. Bad fish tacos, poisons, alcohol, or even chakra-based de-buffs find their duration cut by [Endurance] / 5 posts. As her body metabolizes any foreign substance, Rio also gains a second windwhich allows her to double any endurance feats by two, such as the length she can hold her breath.

Shoot-Out StyleShow
Requires: Projectiles, Deft Hands, Perception

Pocket Sand
D-Ranked Maneuver Taijutsu
Starting with a handful of liquid or a particulate such as sand, Rio will whip her hand outwards towards a targets face. The handful will "stretch out" to a meter long whip that travels out up to [Strength]/2 meters away from her. Beyond the sheer force of the whip, when successfully hitting a targets face, the particulate/liquid will enter the orifices causing temporary blindness, coughing, and other effects, essentially creating a momentary stun.

Quick Draw
D-Ranked Discipline Taijutsu
The practitioner has learned to a point of it being second nature how to flawlessly and quickly draw their weapons from their person, limited only by the boundaries of their full physical speed. Though seemingly irrelevant, this is often the difference in who shoots first. Secondary to this learned skill is also the ability to quickly re-holster or store weapons and draw different weapons.

Shoot From The Hip
D-Ranked Discipline Taijutsu
Requires: Quick Draw
The practitioner has learned to transition straight from a draw into an attack- using the draw itself as part of the attack and momentum. They can do this at full power, with a slight edge even, and with full accuracy.

Trajectory Predicition
D-Ranked Discipline Taijutsu
After much practice, the practitioner has learned how to read an opponent's movements to gauge where they will be at any given moment without penalty. Effectively, the practitioner can "lead" their shots to account for movement by targets.

Bouncing Projectile
D-Ranked Maneuver Taijutsu
The practitioner aims a projectile at a shallow angle, targeting the ground or a hard surface. The shallow angle of the shot causes the projectile to bounce off of the surface, moving at -1 Speed and striking with -1 Strength after the bounce. This technique can be used to launch an attack from an unexpected angle or to shoot around, over, or under obstacles.

Dual Wield
D-Ranked Discipline Taijutsu
The practitioner is ambidextrous- they can use both their hands with equal deftness, especially in the context of projectile weapons.

Duck n' Roll
D-Ranked Discipline Taijutsu
Requires: High Tension Stance Active
The practitioner has an uncanny awareness of incoming threats and can seamlessly roll, duck, and dodge for cover to the maximum extent of their physical abilities, even in the middle of attacking. This truly gives a "gunslinger" vibe to practitioners as they roll in behind obstacles unleashing a flurry of attacks.

High Tension
C-Ranked Stance Taijutsu
High Tension stance allows a user to rely on speed, deftness, and perception through heightened sensory input to be quicker to the draw in every way, breaking a standstill and tipping the odds in one's favor. In this stance the practitioner has their shoulders squared back with their hands at their holsters, allowing them to quickly draw and fire with precision. Their stance balance's their weight on the balls of their feet, allowing their legs to use their natural spring to move one explosive fast movement. But above all, through great training stance unlocks a heightened sensory input allowing them to more quickly react, to the point of almost appearing to "preact". This stance grants a +5 in speed, but a -5 in strength.

On The Move
C-Ranked Discipline Taijutsu
The practitioner has learned how to accurately launch projectiles while moving through the flow of combat: whether jumping, rolling, airborne, sliding, or doing other basic combat movements at full speed, they are capable of hitting their mark.

Multi-Draw
C-Ranked Discipline Taijutsu
The practitioner has trained such a deftness to their draws that they are now capable of drawing multiple projectiles and more impressively, launching them in a tight spread, capable of putting multiple projectiles into a small bullseye at the same instance.

Anything Can Kill
C-Ranked Discipline Taijutsu
The practitioner has learned deeply the aerodynamics of projectiles to a point where they can improvise or makeshift weapons from anything, be it rocks, broken tiles, a chopstick, or even a tube of toothpaste. They know how to throw it for maximum damage and impact. This means when using makeshift weapons there is no penalty and they are just as effective as if it was a real weapon in the practitioner's hand.

Situational Awareness
C-Ranked Discipline Taijutsu
The practitioner has keen senses and perception and has trained to use them to have advanced spatial sense. This allows them to envision complex happenings around them with ease: this means it is hard to surprise attack the practitioner as they are always aware of their position and their surroundings. Likewise, they have a greatly sharpened ability to judge the speed of things, and the spatial aspect of them.

The Clash
B-Ranked Maneuver Taijutsu
Rio will deftly launch a projectile at an oncoming solid mass. If the [Strength] behind her projectile meets or exceeds the Strength of the attack it is clashing against, the attack is deflected away from the practitioner, often destroying the incoming attack in the process too. If the projectile is only slightly weaker than the attack (-5 Strength or less), the attack is still partially deflected, though Rio must supplement her defense with other techniques or movements to fully avoid the attack. If Rio cannot perceive or track an attack, this cannot be used.

Decapitating Strike
B-Ranked Maneuver Taijutsu
After preparing two projectiles with a thin wire or suitable substitute, the user will throw both projectiles with one hand in a way such that the wire is not visible to those without suitable visual perception techniques. The two projectiles will fan out to the full-width of the wire, pulling it taut as they proceed forward. If the wire strikes a target with a strength advantage of 5 or more, the target will be cut in half by the wire and the projectiles will continue forward with the wire. Otherwise, the wire will get caught on the target and produce a "bolo" effect as either end of the wire with the projectile rapidly wraps around them.

Carving Shot
A-Ranked Maneuver Taijutsu
Going beyond deflecting just incoming projectiles, Rio has learned to split the sea or even carve a path through fireballs by throwing a projectile such that its drag creates a 5-meter radius pressure pocket behind it. This effectively makes the projectile the first thing impacted by the incoming attack, taking the brunt of it's force whilst simultaneously carving a path through the opponents attack.

History
Historical AccountsShow
Rio was born in Wind Country to a nomad mother. Hef father was from Dragon Country and was a mystery too much of their village, always gone for work. In those early days, what little memory Rio did have was with her mother, however, her mother passed away before she was knee-high. She was cared for by the elder nomads for a bit before her father eventually showed up.

Her father was a bounty hunter and a decently famous one. While he loved his daughter it made life hard since he could not stay in one place long and the open roads and dangers of his job were no place for a child. As the pair moved from place to place he often relied on the elderly, small schools, and wherever a child could be left safely for a while. Eventually, Rio became older and could fend for herself on the streets as her father worked. Here she learned quite a lot about being sneaky, subtle, and sleight of hand. Her skills were only furthered by her dad teaching her to throw knives when he wasn't working. Things however went bad for Rio when she was 9 years old... She had returned to Wind Country on a mission with her father and somewhere nearby Sunagakure in a sandy town one day the girl was at play when some officials from the town approached her.

That was the day her father did not come home. He had chewed off a bounty he couldn't finish- a missing ninja. The ex-shinobi had been too powerful and had dispatched of her father, leaving Rio an orphan. This devastated the girl who from that day decided she would follow in her father's footsteps. Using the one skill her father had taught her- knife throwing, Rio would go on to spend time learning to fight and perfecting her knife-throwing all with the goal of becoming a bounty hunter and killing the missing ninja who killed her father.

At the age of 13, she would meet Hasegawa Sega, an inventor, and shinobi from Sand Country. He had been stationed in a village near Rio during the war when the two met. The man was powerful and unlike most shinobi mainly relied on mechanical contraptions and inventions to fight, but his body was failing. He was living on borrowed time from a beast that had bound his soul back to his body, but the seal was wearing. Under his tutelage, she would learn about the shinobi and warfare. She would not learn ninjutsu but would learn how to fight the shinobi. How to counter their mystical arts with mechanics. The pair would also work to retrofit her father's armor, making it more powerful.

When the changes were finished, she would don the armor and go on a hunt to catch a D-Rank criminal, doing so successfully and proving herself ready to be a hunter. With this bounty in the bag she would gain access to the Bounty Hunter's Guild. Still, though, she was not ready to hunt the man who killed her father.

"It's so sad!" the reader said to the writer with a frown. "The character in my book just died!" The author turned to her and burst out into tears, "I know!" he said, "So did mine!"
