He never thought that during his spare time away, he’d be in his boxers on a beach looking at scrolls…

No he was lying, this was always how this was going to happen, he had no doubt about that, but he looked down at the second scroll, the question of runes still sat with him.

”What is Chakra, huh?” He said with a wry smirk, he had looked over them a number of times until he felt that his theory was right, but it was different today because it was a matter of putting things into practice. The beach was hot already, but putting his ideas into practice was more important as he carved into the sand with his chakra.

He felt his chakra flow outwards, his understanding of the energy was getting higher by the day, and yet he felt he was over a thousand miles away from truly understanding it. Basic runes linked together rather simply, but just because they were basic didn’t mean they were easy. It already felt harder to understand than the fuuin he knew.

He looked at the shape, there were different branches and so the looks of a rune weren’t all the same but they were similar enough that someone could tell what it does, if they were learned in the art.

That was what Raizou didn’t like, but that didn’t mean they could remove it, hell no-one could and that’s what made Ancient Runes terrifying for the Chuunin. The ideas he could plant into this were stupendous but at this point, he was limited purely to utilizing Ninpou and so he planned out an array, that of making use of his sensory skills at the very least, a set of googles that could sense chakra would be absurd for him.

The next was making an array that could actually store Ninpou, and so he worked on it, charged his chakra, and began to write. The lines were important, but he was writing in a foreign language he had never really trained in, that would be the first step for him to get ahead, but this layer was laid out to him.

He took in a deep breath and concentrated on the rune he had in mind, before he began to write it out on a kunai, it had already been tempered by him before and so he begun to get working on it. The chakra within was ready to respond, and it began to bind with the chakra he used to write the rune.

It began simple, a singular line using chakra, and then he began to dive in deeper as it began to grow more intricate, he focused hard on the letter that he was making and the overall goal of it before he allowed it to bond more with the chakra already present in the kunai until the point that he was satisfied, then finally he took in a deep breath and ran through a set of hand seals.

They were for his basic mind’s eye, and the rune began to eat the chakra up as he donated it before binding to it in full, he would be able to sense it for a while now, and so he began to concentrate on it even deeper as it connected to his mind. The image of various flame like figures appeared in his mind and then he looked around. It wasn’t from his perspective but from that of a kunai.

”How the hell does a kunai have perspective?” He wondered aloud but then again that was beyond his pay grade.

Prerequisite: *[Ancient Rune: Scholar]
Reflective of the first step to actually utilize Runes, the 'Novice' is able to embed D-rank Ninpou effects with up to [25] Control and any other subsequent stats into a Rune. A semi-permanent version of fuuinjutsu, previously shaped chakra can be placed into a rune and then embedded into an object, allowing for the effect to be retained by the weapon indefinitely. Unlike standard charge fuuin, Runes cannot be removed via fuuinjutsu removal, but are negated when the object is detempered. This technique cannot be performed in combat. The Novice must know the technique being embedded, or currently have it stored in another Rune.

Having learned how to utilize ancient runes, this user has also learned how to store and manipulate pre-existing chakra shapes. By generating the rune, the user can bring the Rune in contact with a Ninpou Technique with less [Control] than the Rune was drawn with. This will absorb in the technique into the Rune, and store the chakra for a later enchantment. This can only store enough for a single Ninpou enchantment and must be done multiple times for more.

Raizou considered what to do next, but he could build on the existing rune some more, an increase in efficiency, or so it goes. A part of him wondered if it was really worth doing, but then again it was merely practice, something that would get better with time. But maybe first, he’d focus on one of the ones that were in the scroll, a rune that was supposed to bolster Iijutsu, not that he had any to check it out, but he could practice the shape as much as possible in the meantime.

He took in a deep breath as he looked upon the shape, and then carved the lines in the sand beneath him, and wondered how the hell he’d ended up drawing lines in the sand at the grand ol’ age of twenty two. It was strange, being the kind of man who sought training, he had even learned how to make weapons under an aged smith who refused to give his name, then again Raizou hadn’t done so either, so it wasn’t the greatest of losses was it? He found it amusing.

Now he had a book with runes, and the question that continually would echo in his head, the question of this part was simple. ”A seal is an altar.” It was a simple conclusion in truth, but at the same time now he was building another altar, and he needed a sacrifice that he couldn’t get.

The lines that showed this was an Iijutsu didn’t show anything else, but he repeated it again and again to commit it to memory so that he did not forget when the time came to go back over it again. Still…

Being in his swimming trunks made this exercise feel like a waste, but he couldn’t focus when he had such juicy info in his hands.

Maybe he’d do a few more?

That was what he had told himself as he began to experiment. He could tell one of the lines reflected the flow of normal chakra, yang and yin combined in an unchanged nature. It was supposed to guide the flow, and recreate it after having a taste of it. But what if he made it more efficient, and offered even more paths to it? That was what he thought about in that moment as he looked down at the weapon kunai in his hands.

If he could gain even a slight boon, it might be worth it. He began to trace a secondary line that led to the core rune, and then other lines that spanned out from there in a ring, allowing it to encircle the core rune, and begin to flow chakra into it at a higher rate. It would only work for Ninpou, but that was perfectly fine. Even sensory jutsu would see a boon from this.

But as he ran his chakra through it, he could feel the snags he had created, and he more or less could picture how to undo it. It wasn’t flowing as well as he had thought, and was creating a build up in exchange for the increase in the speed of the chakra. So he created a path and vented it back into the core rune. It might as well be called an array, but in truth Raizou knew calling it that was nothing but hot air.

It was the simplest form of this jutsu, but he could already see how he could apply it in the future…

”Haaa….Runes sure are scary, huh?” He said to himself before he broke out into laughter.

[Ancient Rune: Ninpou Chakra Flow]
D-rank Ancient Rune Fuuinjutsu
Prerequisite: *[Ancient Rune: Scholar], [Weapon Crafting: Tempering]
Using tempering as the basis, Raizou has formed a rune that increases the effeciency of chakra flow, which treats Ninpou Jutsu channeled through a tool with this rune as being 3 strength higher when used, however if used for nature transformation it is treated as 3 strength lower.

Still, there was a chakra limitation, now that he knew just how much chakra he could work into this, Raizou began to work away at the next step; the theory behind other variations on the storage runes. The ideation behind it wasn’t particularly difficult, just working on the base elements, and he’d done the basic training for both Raiton and Katon, even if he needed to increase his usable base of jutsu. What made Katon so different was the density of chakra, it’s tendency to spread, and its high heat.

Which was a lot all things considered, there wasn’t going to be any smooth easy tricks. But first thing was first, he needed to work on theory, making a small flame was easy to do even for him. Basic chakra transformation was something that he was used to now, he was raised as an Awai, he had his own unique variation on Hiton, now there was Katon. The changes would increase, and how to handle the chakra would increase in difficulty as well.

But the first step would be making that Katon inert, and static, able to be held within a matrix. Seals could do it, but he was working with a more advanced form now. He looked at his hand and then down at another Kunai this time as he began to look over the shape. Matching the rune to the container so that it didn’t just fall apart from the inside, or worse yet…Explode in his hand.

The second step was really dealing with the density of chakra, the quanta were going to be the same, but the amount of chakra that was in the same space was different. Nature transformation took up more chakra, that was a simple fact of life; it was why there were times Academy students were not taught such.

The final point was heat, how to make sure that it could still be Katon chakra when chakra was run through it, but act as something else during that time. A conversion matrix would be something else, better suited for a charge fuuin. This was perhaps closer to Sealing and Force, in the fact that he was keeping it but also holding it stable for the moment.

He thought on it, but began to get to work, the core was going to be the same, a rune to hold the chakra stable in the middle; but the latter parts were different. A line to draw the chakra throughout the weapon like his ninpou storage, and then there was runes whose purpose was to at one point, keep the properties of nature transformation inert, and when activated, bolster it.

Raizou needed the inert parts first, and so he worked on it at the same time, all three properties were part of the same whole, Katon. Inactivating parts as if they were separate would only lead to instability down the line, and he didn’t want to have to deal with that in the present moment.

He sighed before he looked down at the kunai, the moment of truth was here as he made some Katon chakra to be absorbed by the Kunai, it flowed into it naturally enough until the moment it reached near the limit as the metal began to heat up, Raizou dropped it before he kicked it up in the air before it exploded in the middle of the sky.

”For reference, work on the inert matrix some more. I think I might have dropped a line.” He muttered to himself as he hightailed it out of there, maybe he’d come back again tomorrow.
