Fire+Lightning Vs. Bugs+Manboy.... Oh, and a cultist base

Post by Gothmer » Thu Sep 01, 2016 3:34 pm

Komori and Kuodachi found themselves assailed by two chakra wielding cultists of sort in the forests around what the two had deduced to be the base of operations for an operation involving the harassment and kidnapping of denizens of a nearby Fire Country village. The stage was set. Kuodachi has just pushed the overconfident Komori out of harm’s way at the cost of burns across his calves. It was immediately clear these two cultist would not be taken down quite as easily as they might have expected. Their chakra knowledge was more than simple basics. It extended into elemental affinities, and with profound effect at that.

Kuodachi would not remain still for more than a moment. That was a good thing because their opponent, a fire wielding hot headed cultist moved quickly into another set of seals that would result in a large fireball being hurled in the direction he and Komori landed. Kuodachi quickly and silently moved up a nearby tree, out of sight of their opponents and would begin quickly moving around to their opponent’s right flank. His legs were certainly burned, but the fire, being in such a large area and only reaching him at the edge of the area, did not burn as heavily as it could have. He could feel the sting and smell the blisters forming, but it would not inhibit him too much. Furthermore, he knew, while these bandits were trained better than anticipated, he could still, more than likely, end this fight fairly quickly. However, he wanted to give Komori some time to work. He showed talent, even if he was a bit overconfident in his initial display.

He could not forget the underlying mission within the mission which was to befriend Komori. It was mostly a mission of his own making, but also one of obligation. He needed to bring some light to the darkened heart of the Aburame before it was too late. So, Kuodachi would silently move, watching Komori’s movements in order to be full ready to act alongside them as a teammate might do. This was not a fight Komori could easily handle on his own, and it held plenty of peril. The Aburame was undeniably arrogant, but this could very quickly serve as a learning experience. Still yet, the mission was still only in its beginning stages. There was little way to know what exactly they may yet face after these two opponents. There was, after all, an entire cultist base to investigate.

Fire+Lightning Vs. Bugs+Manboy.... Oh, and a cultist base

"Maybe you need to be just as careful, however I have an idea. If you get him to keep throwing his fire..." Ko figured, he should keep his voice down, as to not let his opponent overhear. Though it was unlikely anyone had the hearing like the Jounin before him, he didn't want to take the chance. Ko kept his head down, like he was instructed, for now. Waiting for the opportunity to launch, what he believed,  was going to be another game changer for the fire wielder. However, they still had to deal with the girl. She seemed shaken up, but Ko now knew to not overestimate either one of them. The man was good, perhaps too good. He's the type that doesn't bat and eye when a member of his 'crew' gets taken out.

A smirk came back on the teens lips when he thinks about the upcoming fight. His hands tremble slightly with the anticipation of being the one to take down this thug. Or at least the Chuunin was wanting to be that person. To prove, once again, he was the prodigy of the Aburame. With that in mind, Ko formulated a series of hand signs. Which quickly became a clone of his insects, as they morphed into a perfect doppelganger of himself. Looking at his clone, his Insect friends, he patted the clones shoulders. "I'm sorry my friends, but do me proud.." With his words, almost a sad tone to them, Ko had himself and the clone pull out two tagged kunai's, wrapped with flash tags again. They braced themselves, and then dashed out, at full speed, in different directions. Each going to the sides of the fire slinger. At the same time, the clone flicked the kunai at the head of the man, while Ko launched into the air towards one of the trees, and threw his tagged kunai at the woman behind the katon man.

It wasn't long until fire spread out around the two rogues and not only prematurely exploded the flash tag from the clone, but also took Ko's clone out in one hit. His insects being fried to a crisp and then turned to ash. The pure heat from the fire, almost all but warped the kunai. However, the kunai from above still flew true. The fire being only spread out in a wave from the man at the center, left the opening from above. As the kunai flew towards the woman's leg, she was focused on using that shielding of hers, the kunai hit the barrier from her lightning and went off. The blinding light once again hitting the woman's eyes and searing the retinas for the time being. Ko continued his jumping through the trees, just outside the man's fire, circling around the two. Soon being behind the two shinobi, hidden behind the trees still in area, letting his hands grip four senbon in each hand. It was the Jounin's turn. Something, Ko figured he'd be right on time. What with the slight distraction Ko made, he'd hope Kuodachi would provide the rest, or at least to allow Ko to move with the rest of his plan, his Ash will cripple the katon slinging man, no doubt. He just had to get in closer to use it.

Fire+Lightning Vs. Bugs+Manboy.... Oh, and a cultist base

Even with the distance he’d already created between him and the Chuunin, Kuodachi could hear Ko talk to his clone. It was strange to see how truly bonded he was with his hive. He cared about the swarm like they were his best friend as they quite probably were. Perhaps it was a good sign for an Aburame to care to such a degree. Perhaps they all cared that much. In truth, Kuodachi had not been very versed in the Aburame ways outside of texts. He’d only had them as partners on very sparse occasions in the past. Teams were often made with a good mix, and in a lot of ways, his own skills were very much in line with the skills the Aburame carried: Infiltration and information gathering. His were just implemented in very different ways.

He observed closely as Ko began his work, the fire slinger was not waiting, patiently, to regain a notion of where his two opponents had gone, his eyes darting around like pinballs as his head flung around with them. The lightning user looked nervous, her shield was holding strong, but her anxiety was written all over her face. She was not accustomed to a fight like that and the pressure was getting to her. She looked eager to bolt, the fire slinger’s presence being the only thing stopping her from doing just that.

As Ko and his clone sprang into action, Kuodachi would do be ready to act on any opening created. The clone was a distraction, lowering the chance that an attack would be directed at the real one. Good thinking. Of course, the fire slinger would quickly resort once more to the AOE nova jutsu. The flames were hot! Kuodachi saw the Kunai warp and the insects crumble… What devastation. Katon was such a crude art though. There was truly nothing refined about it. Launch an attack, it burns stuff. That’s it… Then again… Genjutsu was the most refined art of them all.

Kuodachi smiled, seeing Ko slap down the flash tag once more. This was when Kuo sprang into action from a branch to the opposite side of Ko’s entrance. His trajectory would land him directly atop the Katon user. While in the air, he would draw his sword. He didn’t use the blade often, but this was a perfect opportunity. Height advantage, and the element of surprise thanks to Ko. His head would physical turn from the flash tag, knowing his eyes would fry even if he closed them. His eyes were just too sensitive for such a flash. He could hear the tag go off though.

There was no need to waste the chakra to use genjutsu on these two when he had Komori to create such an obvious opening to capitalize on. He may not have been very strong for his rank, but his own strength along with the momentum and his body control was more than enough. He’d line the point of the blade to plunge deep into the back of the man’s neck, right where the spinal cord was most exposed. His eyes picked out the smallest length between two bones and the blade would pierce right on target. The moment the tip pieced, Kuodachi would shove the hilt forward, so as to allow it to travel down into the man’s flesh as deep as possible without ever coming out the other side while more effectively separating the crowded pathway of nerves. It would go deep and the man’s body would go limp just as fast as Kuodachi descended upon him. He'd barely have time to gasp from the pain before it severed the nerves. Blood would spray upward from the wound with a great deal of initial force before the heart began to halt.

There was a time when Kuodachi would not have killed as he did now. A time when he would have put in a great deal of effort to take targets alive. But, that time had passed and now, he did only what made for the least amount of risk. The fire slinger was hot headed and dangerous. It was a terrible combination, and he was not likely to accept being taken alive. Better off dead. No way he could cause problems then. Additionally, for all the people that were likely killed by this young man's hands, even his own fellow villagers... Only by paying the ultimate price could he atone for his actions.

Kuodachi would kick off the falling body into a backflip away from the scene and yell to Komori, “Good work, Ko! Now, surround her with that cyclone again!” This time, she would not have the fire slinger to free her. She was still rubbing her eyes and shrieking like a frightened animal, but Komori needed to act fast. It would be good to take one alive to interrogate before heading into the beast’s den. Only then would Kuo kill her and move on.

Fire+Lightning Vs. Bugs+Manboy.... Oh, and a cultist base

Post by AlbinoLEPRECHAN » Mon Jan 09, 2017 3:26 pm

It was amazing to see his Jounin leader at work. With lightning fast reflexes, response timing, and precision. It was a wonder that Ko made Chuunin at all. He was not as fast as Kuodachi, nor as precise. The pure skill of his Jounin unit leader, made Ko begin to doubt his own resolve. It wold take years, for Ko to become even half as skilled as the man he was watching. The blade came down faster than a heart beat, and another beat later, the fire slinger was dead. It was a quick death, one that even the teen believed the rogue even felt or k ew what happened. The Aburame's smirk, soon became a snarled look on his lips. The sneer was directed at his leader and his own self. How could the Butterfly of Insects not compare to a mere Jounin? How could he not have the ability to even kill the fire slinger with the first encounter.

The thoughts that ran through the teens mind, had him in his own stupor. His anger radiating through his core, caused his insects to feel such a strong emotional turmoil, boiling through to the surface of the teens face. Soon a cloud rushed around the Aburame, his thoughts on his own Jounin leader, and the fires linger alike. How could it be possible that he, the prodigy of the Aburame clan, not have the most simplist of skill to defeat his enemy? It angered him so much, that the only words he heard from his leader was Cyclone. The idea struck and when Ko thought about it, he placed his hands into the series of signs. Before his hands came together, Ko placed his senbons in his mouth, sideways as to not hurt his self. In an instant, the entity of his hive, came bursting from the tree lines and instantly swarmed not just the woman, but the fire slinger as well as Kuodachi too.

The boy almost all but lost to his own rage, had his insects simultaneously swarm his foes. One, a dead man. The other, a frightened woman, on the verge of a breakdown. The last, his own leader. Though in Ko's mind, he had the man in the Cyclone torrent of beetles, with the fireslinger. Unbeknownst to the Aburame, Kuodachi already flipped from the man and was away from the scene before Ko even launched his attack. It would be a wonder if the Jounin was able to know anything of the emotional tidal wave that was crashing through Komori as his beetles swarmed in a fury of mandibles and wings. The anger, jealousy, even awe that came through Ko's mind, all in a rush, froze the teen. He stayed behind the treeline, stewing in his emotions. Letting his beetles, his friends, carry out their work .

The beetles would be around the woman, trapping her once again, before she could even think of anything else, let alone get her eye sight back. But once she regained her vision, her screams could almost be felt from the piercing sound she gave off. It woke Ko from his own mind, almost startling him to a degree. With a shake of his head, he reached up and stroked the bridge of his nose with his forefinger and thumb of his left hand. Shaking away the turmoil, or at very best, placing it in the back of his mind. Gathering the senbon in his hand, from his mouth, Ko landed against the tree, and looked straight up to the sky. His mind wandered off for a brief second, before he began his leisure walk towards his cyclones. Noticing his leader, outside of his beetles swarm, infuriated the teen once more. "I'm not even fast enough for this?!" His voice was low, and to himself. No more of the stotic tone, but pure hatred welled in his voice to himself. It was pure anger that Ko felt, but fighting to control it. As his walked brought him to the torrent with the dead man inside, Ko's anger subsided once more. Back to his nonchalant self as he placed a hand upon the spinning mass. Within seconds, the insects stopped and entered the body of the teen, becoming part of his hive once more.

He lost many of his Insect companions, this he could not only tell, but feel. The hive felt empty, and it was not a feeling that Ko would have wanted. To the young teen, it felt as if a part of his very self was stripped away. A soul if you have to out it into words. Soon his thoughts went to the death and sacrifice of his friends, his insect hive. Shaking his head, Ko took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly. Letting all emotions wash away from him, a serenity practice he had been trying out. Yet it felt as if much more was needed to overcome the whiplash he just endured.

Fire+Lightning Vs. Bugs+Manboy.... Oh, and a cultist base

Post by Gothmer » Wed Jan 11, 2017 2:31 pm

Kuodachi landed on the ground smoothly, watching the scene take place. It was unlike anything Kuodachi had ever seen. How the Aburame were able to house such a massive swarm of insects within their body was a mystery to Kuodachi. But, more than that, his focus was on the expression his eyes caught through the flora resting on Ko’s face. Kuodachi was good to reading expressions, but Ko’s was muddled in so many emotions, even his keen eyes couldn’t place it. Beyond that, as the piercing screams echoed to his ears, he realized the young Aburame ignored his command, choosing his own route. Not good.

When Ko noticed Kuodachi, he’d meet his gaze. His own expression would be something akin to disappointment, his arms crossing over his chest. He’d meet Ko’s gaze for only a moment before turning back to the ravaging the insects were doing upon the corpse and the woman alike. With the swarm left any chance of interrogation as the woman endured pain equal to that of Kuodachi’s powerful genjutsu in her final moments. Unlike his genjutsu, this was real. Her flesh was being stripped away, piece by piece as the swarm gnawed upon her.

“End it, Komori.” He’d state loudly enough for Ko to hear, especially with the screams having vanished with the life of the woman. His words were hard, an unmistakable command. He was commanding the Aburame to call back his swarm. He’d add in, “I told you to surround her. Not kill her.” His words were clear. He wanted an explanation as to why his order was disobeyed. Because of the rash action, they were unable to gather information that could have posed invaluable as they moved on with the mission. A shinobi always needed to be thinking ahead and not let emotions get the best of them. Sometimes it was hard. Kuodachi knew that better than anyone, but at the very least, mistakes had to be recognized.

More than this, Kuodachi took Ko's actions as a personal blunder. He'd done something to make Ko think his command was not correct. His own quality as a leader was in question. The young Jounin has been leading since his Genin team, and he would never take such a sign as anything but significant.

Fire+Lightning Vs. Bugs+Manboy.... Oh, and a cultist base

Looking over at the woman, surrounded by beetles, Ko listened for a moment. Almost as if relishing in the sight, yet behind his goggles, he was numb. No feelings for the woman in agony, until Ko reached his hands out. His insects took to the order in an instant, and drained the woman of her life force within moments. Her screams falling in the midst, he body limp on the ground, as the only sound left was the sound of beetles devouring their food source. When they drained their poor victim, Ko knelt down and reached for the body with both hands. The insects immediately went back to their hive, as the young teen began to rummage through the bodies inventory. Replenishing some small projectiles, kunai and a few tagged bombs. It surprised the Aburame that such a woman, skittish and a worrier, carring any weaponry at all.

After finishing with the woman, Ko stood up and walked to the man. Lifelessly on the ground, Ko knelt down to him as well. Repeating the process he did on the woman. However, this man had a few random scrolls on his person. Ko took a moment to examine them, and silently tossed the two scrolls towards his Jounin leader. Not knowing if they were blank, or possibly hidden some message, at least the Chuunin hoped. He knew he went against his leaders wishes, in a fit of rage. Part of him still stewed, the other, regretted his actions. His time to prove himself, only proved he was still a child. He knew his combat skills proved many times over, but his Mentality fell short. He would need to correct that mishap.

Getting back to his feet, Ko offered no explanation, no words at all. Simply stood, waiting on his leaders next moves, or even order. His hands to his sides, his body language at ease, his expressionless face was that of the typical Aburame. Calm, emotionless, and blank. Standing as if the Chuunin himself was as lifeless as those who lay behind him. Still silent, Ko waited for the reprocussions of his actions. Yet his leader was in charge, it was up to him what to do next.

The silence wracked Kuodachi’s composure, a rare sight to behold. Luckily, most of the signs were subtle and much of the wracking was in his own mind. The light frown… the reserved posture. There would be no more words he had to give.

More than that, despite the Chuunin’s obvious training in expression control, Kuodachi could garner information from behind the measured expression. It may have been dark and riddled with countless signs, but that in itself told a story. Something deep seated was rising from within Komori. Something Kuodachi had no place meddling. Yet, that something caused issues with the mission at hand, and that was unacceptable. Kuodachi was still confident in the prospects, but had it been a tougher mission, things might be different. Kuodachi might have pressed the matter, even threatened reprimand. Yet, there was a reason Kuodachi and Komori were here on a mission Kuodachi likely could have handled on his own. Komori needed this experience, and it was clear the young Shinobi understood his mistake.

He'd catch the scrolls. They were promising, and a bit intimidating. Kuodachi lacked proficiency in ninjutsu, almost entirely, but he knew enough to know that words of power were nothing to be trifled with. Fuuinjutsu could do a great many things, from exploding to creating impenetrable barriers. With quick fingers, Kuodachi would begin opening the first of the two scrolls. Writing, no seals. A list of physical descriptions. Well, traits more like. Brown hair, larger than average stature, male. Black hair, average stature, female. The list went on. Probably twenty entries, some already being crossed off. Kuodachi skin crawled at the implications. What exactly were this cult seeking to accomplish? What was their mission?

He’d commit the contents to memory before shoving it to his pouch and moving to the second. Again, his fingers were quick, his eyes quicker, as he opened the scroll and kept alert of what was being revealed. His hands would stop in an instant as a certain section was revealed. There were words, seemed to be some nature of coded explanation on something. It would take the entirety of the scroll to decipher. But, there was the beginnings of a seal right where Kuo stopped. There was no telling what the seal was intended to do, but there were a couple of routes it could take. Continue opening it and it could be a trap of sorts. Or it could be the means to deciphering the words on the scroll. Could let it be for now, find out more about it later, as it could be important. Finally, they could deactivate it by physically hindering the writing, or test their luck.

He'd clue Komori in. “Scroll’s coded. Got a seal though. Revealing it could be activation.” He’d sigh deeply before closing it back up. If Komori hadn’t gone rogue and slaughtered the female, they could have interrogated here and found out more about it. Now, they would just have to stash it and hope to figure it out later. For not, they had a base to assault and a mission to continue. Without delay, he’d roll the scroll back up and stash it with the other.

He’d clasp his hand on the young Chuunin’s shoulder, seeking to catch the young Chuunin’s gaze. “You good?” If Komori needed a minute, Kuodachi would let him take it while he began work on covering up the bodies. A quick and dirty effort, but one that was surprisingly effective. Not many people moving nearby would notice without some exertion. There was always a potential of another enemy patrol, especially when operating on such little information.

It wouldn’t be long before Kuo moved to the trees in the direction of the base they knew existed. All his senses would be alert for traps and the base alike. Both would likely take a careful eye, and the possibility of traps now rest painfully on his mind after seeing the Fuuinjutsu on the scroll.

Kuodachi has learned how to control his body language and facial expression in order to become 'unreadable' to all but the most knowledgeable readers. He can completely hide emotions and intentions. This also works the opposite way, able to fake emotions and intentions in a stunningly convincing way. Finally, with such an understanding of reading, he is also able to read individuals with a surprising degree of accuracy. Those without some training in masking their emotions and intentions are like an open book to Kuodachi.

Fire+Lightning Vs. Bugs+Manboy.... Oh, and a cultist base

Post by AlbinoLEPRECHAN » Tue Feb 28, 2017 4:10 pm

While Kuodachi was sifting through the scrolls, Ko turned to face the direction they were traveling before this encounter. The estimated area of the bandits base. Anger boiled to the surface of the teen, starting at clenching his fists. Anger at himself, and at the rogues for putting him in this position. With his back turned to his leader, his hope was to suppress his emotion. The Aburame began to think of what lies ahead, hoping to push way the emotion, while simultaneously planning ahead.

It wasn't hard to envelope the teens mind with thoughts of scenarios to come. He was becoming quite decent at it, and still improving. After a few moments, he's only come across fifteen plots that could turn out. Yet every one of them was all decided on how the layout was of the bandits camp, or base. It mattered which it was, due to different outcomes and spacial areas. After he'd come to the conclusion, that he'd just have to see their area for himself, Ko looked to the trees. Just before making the leap, he heard his leader speak about the scrolls once more. Something about fuuinjutsu, and a few words. It seemed as if the two were not equipped for such a thing. They each possess skill. One more than the other. The teen thought to himself. It wasn't long before a hand came to his shoulder, and the familiar voice returning. A quick nod was all the Chuunin gave, before leaping into the trees in the direction of their target.

Knowing full well that his leader could easily catch up, Ko took the time to settle his mood before the next battle at hand. A few calming breaths, while hopping from limb to limb in the trees, made quick work at his anger. In no time he was calm, collected, and back to his Aburame persona. Dispite being labeled as the rest of the nest in a cage, as he refereed the Aburame being in konoha, he was relieved at his own upbringing in masking, and eliminating emotion almost all together.

With a few moments passing, Ko noticed something up ahead in the dense forest. It was off putting, and rather grotesque. The trees definitely were a great place to hide out, but what came across the teens vision was nothing of what he expected. Coming to a complete halt, just outside the boarders of the bandits base of operations, Ko was dumbfounded. It was a dome of sorts, with the top cut off just at the peak. Seemingly about two stories tall, with three tower like outposts jutting from the outside of the walls, almost like a circle within a triangle. Each outpost, had 360 degree field of vision, with a canopy top. The walls, rounded and caving in towards the top, made this monumental sight even more daunting. However, further notice of the base, revealed it was made from the earth itself. Possibly a Doton user, or in the case, a few of them. With the possibility of wood for stability and design. It was hard to get a detailed description of the base from his distance, but that thought soon was gone.

In one motion, the Aburame brought his hands up from his sides. Outstretched in front of him, with his palms facing the structure, he sent his beetles outward. A small grouping of three, just enough to scan the area, keep out of sight, and keep his link to a maximum at the distance they were going to travel. Upon setting them lose, and giving them their orders, Ko placed his hands into a quick seal and made the link. His eyes flashed from what they were seeing, to the sight of each of the little insects flying towards the base.

Just before reaching the walls, they split up. Each going towards the towers. A quick line of sight would prove they were guard towers, and man'd three look outs to each tower. Whoever these bandits were, Ko was beginning to realise why this mission was infact, a B-rank. These men and women, we're not amateurs in the least bit. Some may lack in experience, if the woman he killed was any indication. Yet he felt that the majority, would be just like the fire slinger. It made Ko a little nervous, and physically swallow hard. It won't be easy, but there was hope that the two could at least sneak in and get a better look of the place, and who's in charge.

Not quite knowing if Kuodachi was near, the Chuunin spoke out of what he saw. "Three sentries at the three towers, full view of base. Walls made of what would be mud and earth alike, probably a few Doton user's, and I might not be able to see it, but I'm pretty sure they are using wood or something similar for support from the insides. Hopefully not a Mokuton user." His voice was collected, yet his pitch was a little concerned. If they had three sentry details outside, how many would reside outside. The dome itself was fairly large, roughly what looked like sixty meters round. It gave the outcome, in Ko's mind, the emense size of the inside, and possibly outcomes of corridors and who knows what else. Either way, it wasn't going to be an easy mission to follow.

Fire+Lightning Vs. Bugs+Manboy.... Oh, and a cultist base

Post by Gothmer » Thu Jul 27, 2017 3:08 pm

This is where Aburame shined beyond the capabilities of almost any other – Reconnaissance. Even Kuodachi couldn’t manage such a thing without quite a bit of time and risk involved. But here, Ko was able to send out what appeared to be little more than bugs to do the dirty work. Of course, these were more than bugs and Kuodachi knew that. Truly, a beautiful work of art, in its own right. Art that took many generations and great effort to create. A technique all their own.

Kuodachi would wait until Ko reported his findings. And with the report, came a bit of a shock. Surely this operation wasn’t so big! This mission was merely to have the potential of B-rank, but given the baseline report, B-rank was the minimum. Given the fire slinger alone, this was dangerous. Chakra sensitive bandits stealing people from the village nearby for god knows what purpose, with money and man power to back it… Not good. Every mission Kuodachi was getting lately was giving him a terrible feeling in his gut. Someone was trying to take the monopoly over chakra away from the villages. And they were doing a damn good job. The source could very well be in the outpost.

But, now the question came – Why hadn’t such a large base of operations been found? Kuodachi climbed to the top of the tree and look in the direction of the base. What he saw was shocking. He saw nothing. No towers, no dome. Just forest. It was hidden by some force. Seals, perhaps? A Fuuinjutsu specialist was certainly behind this. And their seals were nothing to be trifled with. “We might just be in over our heads here.” Ko was a fresh promoted Chuunin. Even with Kuo, this was starting to look extremely risky. They needed a plan.

He’d fall back down to a lower branch and continue talking to the Chuunin. “If they can camouflage the entire base, it is likely to also have an alarm as well.” He’d retrieve the scroll they’d got from the fireslinger. Perhaps that was the key. As dangerous as it was, they needed to open it. He’s quickly set out to attaching string and set it far away. With a pill of the string, the scroll came rolling open with no explosion or otherwise. Yet, the seal did glow for a few seconds. And then fade. After a few moments, he’d retrieve the scroll. It had only a large seal upon it. He’d close it once more and open it. The same thing, a glow, then just a seal again. “Think we’ve got our key in.” He’d state to Komori. Kuodachi had read about barriers of this caliber before. The seal was a key between the outside and inside area for the laymen – Those not trained in Fuuinjutsu.

“So.” He’d say, still trying to keep a relatively light mood, despite the itch of concern in the back of his head. “Do we wait till nightfall, or want to try our hands in daylight?”
