[Closed] What the Crows Left

Post by Willoria » Fri Dec 08, 2017 4:31 pm

She could feel it calling to her, that darkness. The black flame she had once held within, pouring every negative feeling and emotion into it that her mind might not be clouded in a fight, that her head might be clear. She had tried to burn it all away and in the last weeks it had turned even the flame dark as night. There was nowhere else she could pour it all, everything she had seen, everything she had felt. She lay on her right side on the cold, hard, ground of this room that was her cell. Dirt and straw littered the corners, towards the left hand side three bodies lay slumped against the wall, lifeless eyes staring at her, begging for her to end it. She had been unable to save them, couldn't even end their pain for them. How long had they lain there staring at her? Demanding justice? She couldn't be sure, she couldn't even smell them anymore. The stench of rot and decay had come and gone and still she lay in her corner.

She had once worn flowing skirts as part of her ensemble, but those had been tattered and torn to shreds, bright cloth strewn about the room and leaving her in just enough to cover what was necessary. Her flowing and layered shirt too had been torn and shredded. At some point she had been holding the cloth up and over her, what was left of it, with both hands. But now that she was alone she didn't seem bothered by it. She simply lay there, hands on the ground and cold tears streaming down her face in silence.

Blood stained her pale skin, her hands, her face, her legs, it even stained the walls. She felt like she could still see the crows before her, flitting about the room and pecking at those three corpses, even at her own skin from time to time. At some point he had taken a blade and cut away her vanity, throwing the long pale locks of hair to the ground and leaving her almost looking like a boy without her braid. Had he left? She couldn't remember, all she could remember were those crows, and at some point her eyes must've closed.

In such a place of torment time had no passing. Inomei barely remembered her own name or where she was, she couldn't remember all that had happened. There was a darkness in her memory, a large gap with only flashes here and there. Flashes of blood and screams, things she didn't want to reach out and touch. At some point there came a movement in the room, and she only knew her eyes had been closed. Gasping with only sound of air and no voice she suddenly tried to move away from the center of the room, though her back touched the cold wall already. Though pain came through her body in response it was as if she had no idea of the newest truth. She tried to scream, tried to yell at whatever and whoever to get back, but no sound came, and it didn't seem to register to her as odd. Yet the wound in her neck was still there, blood had stopped flowing in the cold of the room, but still stained skin.

Fanho had been sprinting through the forest. It was uncontested all the way up til this point. He was surprised Enma had little to no defenses on this hideout of his. Sadly it wasn't a highly spoken hideout, more so one of his torture chambers that riddled with the hue of diseases, death, and doom. Ever since the man was born he had a staunch hatred of those born in a clan. Thinking they sought themselves as superior beings, and all of those not tied to one were inferior genetics. However everyone had known that they saw themselves less than that. Just ordinary shinobi in the ranks with their friends and family. He had only hoped he could save those very ones trapped and tortured by the mad man in there. He prepared for the worst that laid await behind those doors.

As Fanho's foot snapped into the door frame, the steel door bolted off of its hinges as he drew his Chokuto in preparation for the worst, or even a fight with the monster himself. After peering around the room his eyes adjusted and spotted what was a dirty blonde person, but that could've been the dirtiness of the room. It was short like a boy's, but the figure seemed too slim and girlish to be that of a boy. However it made it clear to him after reviewing the features of pale skin, blonde hair, that it was none other than a Yamanaka reported missing days earlier to the Mamorinuku heads. There lie Yamanaka, Inomei.

With a draft of the blade it rested once more in its sheath as Fanho took a few steps closer before hunkering down into a crouching position. His hands lay on the floor gently as to not frighten her anymore than his unhinging of the door. He feared that may have not been the only unhinging that had taken place here. In a soft whisper just above the white noise that lingered in the ever lasting wind. "Inomei, my names Fanho. I'm from Konoha, and I'm here to take you back home." He laid his hands out so she could see them knowing he wasn't intending harm. They laid out not tensed, but his body riddled with an uncomfortable shiver knowing what tragedies happened here. The stench of death next to the two, contrarian to his soft tone, with that of vile doings.

The movement she had seen as crows had been the kicking in of the door. She hadn't even registered it as such, though she had tried to force herself as far into her corner as she could. She pressed herself into it, feeling the cold of the concrete against areas of bare skin, her breath quickening as she tried to keep from Fanho. It wasn't until he spoke that reality slowly began to leak in. First she saw the door, the pieces of it all across the floor, and then the hands extended towards her. They were relaxed, open, waiting, without weapon and all she could do was stare at them at first. The words took longer to register with her, they didn't seem at all human but her mind played them over and over again.

She blinked once, twice, and thrice, before lifting her gaze from the ground to look at the one before her. Hair, outfit... and the hands that reached out for her. She shook her head and opened her mouth to speak, but no words came and a pain went through her body causing her to shudder. Tears sprang to her eyes as the truth came to mind and she stared at Fanho a moment, reaching up a hand to touch her neck and feeling the dry, caked blood, and then something warmer and wet.

She pulled her hand away and looked down at it, her hands shaking as she registered the sight of the slick blood on her fingertips. Shaking her head almost violently she opened her mouth and tried to scream, trying desperately to be heard, and yet no sound but breath came out. She pushed back against the wall, leaning her head back against it too as tears streamed down her face.

She would never forget what Enma had done to her. He had made sure she couldn't by changing her life forever.

As Inomei recoiled, Fanho watched hopelessly. He couldn't press forward without startling her more so remained still, quiet. Waiting as she opened her mouth, but to no avail words came out. He could make out the caked blood layered with warm blood dripping down nonchalantly. It appeared even the young Yamanaka herself didn't know what had happened, but the Awai could take a wild guess. Enma was a sadistic one, it made sense that he'd cut her tongue out with extra prejudice. He remained still, hands still splayed out as he slowly lifted a finger to his lips ushering a hushed, "Shhhh... Don't strain your voice. You're in pain, let me help."

He stood up slowly still holding his hands out for her to see plainly. With one foot after the other he slowly made his way towards Inomei quickly halting if she recoiled or shuddered. As slow as it was to make a connection he had to take his time. Otherwise he wouldn't get far with her rejecting his help out of previous fears. He had to ease her troubled soul to ensure she knew he was one of the good guys. As Fanho got closer to Inomei with his hands still held out he knelt down to her ankle bindings. Chained to the wall as if some kind of inhuman experiment he gripped the chains between Inomei's bindings and the wall before calming her down once more. "I'm going to break the chain from the wall, okay?" His voice just louder than a hushed whisper as not to startle her.

With a count of one, two, three, Fanho ripped the chain from the wall with a sudden force of strength. The chain luckily snapping from the wall. It was safer and easier this way for him to break the chain hooked to the wall, and unfortunately for the two of them he didn't have a lock pick at ease of use. He'd let the village manage unlocking the actual bindings, but for now he had to let her out of this dark place with the musk of death lingering over. As the first one was released he moved onto the second one applying the same technique before backing up a few feet still crouched as he kept his hands within sight of her.

The woman opened her eyes again and brought her eyes down to look at Fanho again as he spoke, and began to move. At first she tried to scamper back away from him further, despite having nowhere else to go. But then she saw his hands moving towards where her bonds were in the wall. She watched in silence, flinching only slightly as he yanked them out of the wall. She watched him in silence as she moved back to his crouched position, looking at her, with his hands where she could see them. It was taking her time to process it, what she was seeing. But the actions, what had happened so far, this wasn't one of Enma's genjutsu?

She looked over the man before her, taking in every detail. The first of which was the blade at his hip, and the Konoha symbol on the sheath. It was an unusual placement, and so far when she had hallucinated, or under gen she wasn't sure which, someone coming for her, the symbol had been worn on the standard headband. Each detail was less standard, and more unique, something she knew indicated more and more this wasn't a genjutsu or a hallucination.

Carefully, the woman reached out her hand, and touched one of his with her bloodied fingers before looking into his eyes. "Real?" The words weren't spoken, only mouthed as her voice still could not come. She still had her tongue, but the slice to her throat had cut her vocal chords entirely. But this wasn't on her mind now, the fact that this was no illusion was. She could almost cry.

Fanho gave a nod as Inomei touched his hand. He squeezed her finger lightly as he tapped the ground with his other hand. "See? All real." With a smile he wrapped his hand around hers as he gave a light tug nudging his head towards the door before again in the same soft fragile tone he spoke once more. "Let's get out of here, does that sound good?" If she chose to follow him he'd lead her outside the building immediately not wanting to spend a minute more in that dungeon of despair. It only brought depressing thoughts, and certainly wasn't the best way to prove to her it wasn't some sort of game or gimmick of Enma's.

Once outside Fanho would shield Inomei's eyes with his own hand from what would probably be extremely blinding light. After being tied up inside for so long the light would've bound to hurt her own eyes. Fanho himself was still adapting to not being immune to the light that now plagued his eyes as well. He squinted around as it pierced into his vision before glancing back at Inomei with a warm smile. "See?" He'd gesture at the surrounding trees, birds chirping in the distance, the sunlight peering between the leaves. "This is all real and we're going back home now." With his free hand now realizing Inomei's eyes had probably adapted to the light he angled his finger through the trees pointing in the direction of Konoha; home.

Inomei was watching carefully, searching for any sign that this might be some kind of illusion, some kind of genjutsu. Her hand didn't go through his, she could feel his skin against hers and though the sight of her own blood usually sickened her, it didn't this time. Some of it on her fingers was dry, but some wasn't and smeared across his hand though he didn't seem phased by it as he squeezed her finger lightly. Inomei blinked, hearing what he said and nodded slowly. He was right, it wasn't an illusion, it was real. His hand closed around hers and Inomei let go of a breath she hadn't realized she was holding, and tears of relief slipped down her face as his hand closed over hers.

She moved to try and follow him as he led the way to the door, but once she managed to get on her feet she stumbled, grabbing onto Fanho for support. Her legs were cramped, and pain shot up her legs but she couldn't help an odd laugh at it. Feeling real pain rather than something from illusions was almost a relief, and she made her way outside with him. As the sun hit her face she recoiled for a moment, hissing in pain and clutching to Fanho's arm as she moved to bury her face in his shoulder, at least until his hand came up to shield her eyes and she couldn't help a chuckle.

This was definitely real, her own awkwardness with others was beginning to return already.

Her mind was slowly returning to her as well, after a fashion, and it dawned on her that she didn't have to keep mouthing words and trying to communicate through touches and gestures, at least not past one more if Fanho was willing. She looked at him a moment to get his attention before reaching up and tapping her head with two fingers, and reaching out to tap his forehead with the same two in a silent request to use the Yamanaka techniques to communicate with him more easily.

As her blood smeared against his hand he didn't flinch at the sight or thought. He knew she couldn't help it, also it helped her indicate it wasn't an illusion. At least it was all over subsiding, he just hoped she'd get over the nightmares. When she grabbed onto Fanho for support he uttered a, "Woa-" before cutting himself short. How else did he expect someone not used to walking or tortured for weeks on end to walk. He ushered her a reassuring smile. None-the-less it was good to see her taking these little signs light hearted using them as ques of good will instead of misfortune.

The young Awai glanced at her as she buried her face into his shoulder before he put his hand up. He himself was still getting used to adapting for the light. He looked as he caught her looking at him. As she put her fingers up to her forehead then his he put two and two together. "Ahhh, so you wanna use your Yamanaka technique on me to communicate. Well sure." He ended with a grin before allowing her to do whatever she needed to do. Fanho wasn't unfamiliar with the Yamanaka techniques helping Naoyukino get over his fear of partnering with his bird. He certainly wasn't all to familiar with them. However this'd help Inomei communicate and talk to Fanho and vice versa for him as well.

Inomei nodded as Fanho seemed to get the hint, and what she wanted to do in order to communicate with him. She took a moment to get on her feet, stable enough to remove her hand from Fanho so that she could form the seals, take a deep breath and begin the jutsu by sending what was probably her simplest but more well meant than anything. "Thank you." She couldn't stand long on her own, soon putting at least a hand on his shoulder again as she turned her head and looked back where she had been, swallowing hard as the truth began to sink in.

She had survived.

Her team had not.

"Will someone come get them?" She asked, using the link she had established with Fanho. If she had the ability to speak the words would have been hoarse, strained. Yet the most unsettling part of using a mental link to talk was the lack of physical indicators most people went by. Tears had begun to trickle down her face, her eyes were turning red, but her 'voice' in Fanho's head was unwavering. "They shouldn't be left in that place..."

She turned her head away from the sight of the place where she had been tormented and her mind broken, and looked at Fanho again. "I don't even know what he wanted..."

Fanho wrapped his arm around her wait keeping her hoisted up. The last thing she needed was to be reminded of the temporary muscular atrophy experienced being locked up for so long. As the two minds converged Fanho could feel her enter his conscious, it was weird having a Yamanaka inside of your brain, but he felt as the two would come to know each other he'd get more used to the feeling. The first words were exactly those he had expected. "No worries. No one gets left behind." The second words spoken were those about to surface Fanho's thoughts. He knew there was a back-up team behind him, he was just faster to get here. They'd recover the bodies and provide a proper burial and respectful means of putting them to rest finally.

With a nod and solemn closing of the eyes Fanho sighed with a regretted sadness he wasn't able to save them as well, but he was reached Inomei and that's what mattered then and there. She had survived. "There's a back-up Katameru team behind me, they'll recover them and put them to rest. Don't worry." He flashed a reassuring smile at her as he eased her down on a log to rest for a minute. He reached into his butt pouch pulling out a bandage roll before dipping it in a nearby creek making it slightly damp. With the rag he gently began to clean the blood off of her face, hands, legs, and arms wherever he could respectfully touch he was slow but steady. The sooner she had less reminders, the sooner she'd start feeling better, but he knew the pain wouldn't ever subside this soon.

He just hoped he could help her be strong enough to confront it when the time came. "Let's not think about it, and let's focus on getting you cleaned up." His fingers gently caressed the bandage as he pressed lightly to rub some dried blood off. He could hear the back-up team arriving as they scouted out the hide away. They left her and him to talk knowing the damage that had been done. Their team had been gone for weeks, but for them it must have felt like years with Enma's prowess in genjutsu. Being able to make minutes seem like months, and hours seem like years the pain was all too real to them however.

Inomei didn't fight against Fanho as he led her over to a log to sit on. Her mind seemed almost elsewhere as he replied to her remarks, and even as he started trying to help by cleaning her up. She swallowed hard, her eyes yet again focused on that building not so far away where she had been held prisoner. "He made me watch." she remarked from her mind to his, seemingly idly. It was another odd moment. If she had spoken aloud her words might have been broken, but here the only falter was as she sighed afterwards, her sigh wavering as tears slipped from the corners of her eyes again. She shook her head and reached a hand up to wipe the tears away, turning her gaze to her hands as they sat on her lap. "I'm sorry..." Though Fanho would 'hear' the words of course, this time these were words that weren't necessarily for her. They were for her team who had died horribly in that place, the people she knew she was supposed to protect and yet had failed to do so.

"How do I face their families?" she wondered, taking a deep breath as she tried to steady herself. She could feel more than she could see shadows lurking at the corners of her eyes, as if just outside of her vision that crow still loomed in the shadows, waiting to take her away into torment and hell once more. "A sensei guides, instructs... and protects. I failed at least in that final respect... perhaps I failed in the others too. They never should have been brought here by him... I should have seen him sooner... I should have sent them home, kept him occupied... something..." Her lips twisted as she fought the sob caught in the back of her throat. But there was no stopping it, tears streaming down her face as she gasped and her hands came up to dig into her hair. A heat traveled up the back of her neck and she gritted her teeth so hard she could swear she tasted blood.

But the rage building wasn't for Enma... it was for her...

As Inomei recollected the horrors that haunted her during her time being captured. It seemed as if she almost forgot that the two's thoughts were intertwined allowing them to speak to each other. She lost herself in her apologies, not knowing how to approach their families. Her recollection in her mind a failure. He continued to clean the blood dipping the bandage roll in the creek washing it off before continuing to wash the dried, caked on blood. As the tears streamed down he began to pat her cheeks lightly to catch the nears before he sat down next to her. He took her hand and lightly stroked it with his thumb as he placed his free right hand on her shoulder lightly squeezing it to break her attention from her sadness and crying.

While he had conversed in thought he broke away speaking clear so she could hear him. "It may be hard to believe what I'm going to say, and after what you've been through I don't expect you to overcome this struggle immediately or by yourself." He gave a sigh closing his eyes reflecting on what he wanted to say one more time before delivering his message. He lightly smiled as he kept stroking her hand with his thumb to calm her down before continuing on. "This is nothing to blame yourself for. Do not let their memories drown in the pain Enma inflicted, and wanted you to suffer in. In the end you all wanted the best for each other, and blaming yourself for this isn't what they wanted I can assure you."

He lightly rubbed her back to calm her down further as he continued speaking. His voice never going above a soft, calm, and quiet tone, enough for her to hear. However not booming to ensure she could think through what he said. "Also, not only does a sensei guide, instruct, and protect, but they're a shinobi who learns, grows, and bonds giving them something to fight for. Their memories and those still living in Konoha are something worth growing for and fighting for. So please, please, please do not blame yourself for this. Its not your fault." Just as he neared the end of his thoughts the Katameru back-up team had just arrived on scene. He pointed towards the hide out as the shinobi nodded taking care of what needed to be done without a second thought.

To ease her mind more, he angled Inomei away from watching the hideout. She needed to not relive the horrors of what she had just been through. Maybe at a later date she needed to face the demons head on, to finally come to terms with them as closure. For now, it was best she attempt to focus on feeling better. The physical feeling of health would help ease the mental pain and strain inflicted upon her time there.

Her eyes were fixed on nothing, staring away as her mind reeled and the memories replayed unbidden. Her chest rose and fell with strong breath as she felt that fear rising again. Yet as it felt as if her mind might fall into darkness once more she felt the change in his touch. Her head turned suddenly and she looked down at her hand as he held it, as his thumb ran across her skin. Her breathing began to slow back go normal as she turned her eyes back to his and for a moment stared. Her gaze was intense in that moment, eyes wide as she pulled her mind back from the brink and she swallowed hard. Her gaze went back to his hand on hers as she finally heard him speak.

She wanted to agree with him, she wanted to know she was blameless in this. Yet as hot tears stung her eyes once more it felt all the opposite. She was drowning in the guilt and her lower lip quivered as her jaw clenched. She couldn't discard that feeling if she tried. Like a demon coming through the floor and grasping at her ankles it was, her mind had quit kicking the hands away already and let it be dragged into the fire and mire of the earth. The pain was in her eyes as she suddenly turned and buried her face against Fanho's chest.

The tears she had held back came in sobs, a strange sound without voice. The gasping, gulping, tears that were drowning her. Never had the girl felt such a pain in her life, and she knew it would somehow be with her forever.

"Please... I want to go home..."

The thought was like a quiet echo, unchanged by the emotion she was failing now to hide, and yet it was there. She couldn't help but to think that just maybe at home this pain would at the least, lessen.
