[Graded]Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by Sia » Mon Jul 11, 2022 12:27 pm

At her usual training spot within Kumogakure, Kirari had sent out an all-call for anyone of lower ranks or even the higher-ups to assist her with a very particular training session that she knew she could never hope to accomplish alone. She gazed about the combatants with her eyes, examining them exquisitely with her wildly colored eyes, which currently cycled through spectrums of purple and orange. Her hair too, was a sight to behold, for today it was half black and half turquoise, split right down the middle, with streaks of turquoise just barely visible within the black here and there. She had to admit, she wasn't sure what to expect from the crowd that had turned out, but she knew that either way her goal was the same. There were some jutsu she needed to work on, and her moths were the key. She raised her arms to the sky and moths flew in from the trees nearby, perching all along her arms and over the course of a few moments covered her entire body, obscuring her from being properly visible to, well, anyone. She smiled at Chiaki and the other one, whoms name she hadn't even learned yet. "Okay...two on one, lets go."

Immediately, Kirari moved to deliver a swift side-kick towards Chiaki's stomach in an attempt to knock her into the river behind her, followed up by twisting her hips and attempting to sweep the other one off of their legs. Whilst she did this, moths flew out from her body and encircled both of their faces, doing their absolute best to cling to, scratch at, bite, and annoy their faces. Particularly, the moths would target their eyes, ears, nostrils, and, should they be open, their mouths. "Come on, let's see what you got." She said with a chuckle. "Surely if there's two of you then you should have no trouble overwhelming me, no?" As she spoke, the moths that surrounded her began to visibly glow, before they began to rain pollen down on the area before her, strange, fiery looking pollen that was orange and yellow in color. She doubted her training partners would allow the technique to land on them, but, on the other hand, in this close of a proximity, perhaps they would be unable to avoid it after all. Kirari distanced herself a bit and monitored to see how they reacted, careful not to step on the moths that were simply walking along the ground around her.

Hankao had not been studying with Chiaki for long, but it seemed that now was time for a field test. Another Kumogakure kunoichi was looking for support while practicing her battle maneuvers and so Hanako, being untested, did what she did best. She spent the previous day studying jutsu manuals intending to expand her repertoire. Since this was supposed to be practice combat, she had selected a taijutsu scroll, a bukijutsu scroll, and of course a Suiton scroll as it suited her ninjutsu elemental affinity. She wasn’t sure what kind of jutsu her opponent would be using but was assured that it would be another genin, yet Hanako knew that having no clan to pass down jutsu put her at a disadvantage in comparison to most other genin who had been born and raised in Kumogakure.

Her interest in Taijutsu began with the letter B. This scroll was a basic introduction into formal taijutsu called the Bonebreaker Style. The scroll had been handled many times before, its one smooth paper had become rough and worn at the edges. Hanako could see the occasional nicks hear and there. There certainly was a reason technical knowledge began to be stored in hardback books instead of scrolls. It was the protection that the binding and cover provided - but there was still one way in which scrolls were superior; The flow of the material. The way a scroll described technique and action was often one continuous unbroken explanation. A feat that a book would take pages to display, but a scroll could still display so much more than a two page spread.

This scroll was a perfect example. As it demonstrated the actions of its first technique: Bonebreaker style: Fault Line. It depicted the rotation of one’s hips and shoulders as to put full force into a palm strike that was aimed at an opponent's thigh. The depiction clearly showed the twisting motion of a shinobi striking their opponent’s thigh bones. It also depicted this same technique and how to apply your force from multiple angles. All in all it was very thorough and it was becoming clear to Hanako how someone would need to perform such a technique.

The basics of the basics had been drilled into her at the academy. Hanako already knew the basic close quarters combat - how to block a kick, ducking and dodging, weaving and punching. She had practice rote kata again and again, and this scroll was explaining something no different, albeit a more advanced than an academy student’s basic taijutsu kata. This technique was also a kata in a way, but more importantly it suggested creativity in its use, even more so than what the instructors had tried to explain.

She had practiced the maneuver a few times and from different angles. The training dummy she used to practice with provided very little resistance, and of course felt somewhat lacking. It was made of straw with a stick in the center as if to pretend to be a bone. The wood proved to be a lot more flexible than she was expecting, and so she wasn’t able to cause a fraction of any size, let alone a purported hairline fracture. After an hour of repetitive technique and spirits t hat were feeling low she turned to the Medical Journal Anthology. Maybe there was something on the thigh bones?

She scrolled the topical guide at the book and searched a series of articles. Sure enough she had found one. It described a shinobi who had injured his femur as a result of falling after being hit with an attack and moving at high speeds. The impact hit the femur from the side, and the doctor noted the medical that the Ultimate strength of the Femur varied from person to person and across sex, but invariably the compression strength of the femur was much higher than the its ability to handle tension from the side.

To that end, Hanako wondered if the people who made the Faultline Jutsu actually understood what they were doing when they wrote this scroll. Wouldn’t it be more effective to use a closed fist strike than a palm strike then? The force was being spread out at a greater area meaning that the force intended to use would need to be greater. As if to answer her question she turned back to the scroll and read further from there finding that the technique of the open palm was used because an open palm was less likely to break one’s hand under the kind of force needed to make the technique work - even if it was slightly more inefficient this was a D rank level jutsu and thus was the safer version of the technique.

She spent the rest of that researching from the other scrolls and soon enough found the date and time of the training upon her.

Hanako examined the field, cut by the river. The terrain was rather typical for the Lightning Empire in this region, being that it was rocky and that there were boulders and uneven terrain forming hills in this landscape. There was also a fair amount of trees and shrubs, but most of the vegetation was a type of grass that could grow in the rocky ground. It was also humid, being so close to the river and the lake from whence the river sprung no doubt had an influence on that. There were also obstacles here. Balance Posts set in a line, along with wooden walls intended for climbing and hills with tires lining the sides intending for practice one’s wall walking. There were also ditches - some intentional others created from the previous practices leaving craters in the ground with their jutsu. All in all it was the perfect place for a Kumogakure ninja to practice in; a proverbial battleground. It was the home field.

She found her way to the starting position, yet she wasn’t here on the field as herself, instead she was disguised as Chiaki, and the other Hanako was actually a basic Bunshin. All of this had been done for some reason, that Hanako could only assume was for Chiaki’s amusement, or so Hanako presumed.

With very little fanfare the spar began with Shinobi Battle Tactics 101 : Taijutsu.

The initial kick at the fake Chiaki was aimed for Chiaki’s stomach, but for Hanako this was much higher up on her body, and meant that she would be able to easily duck under the taller girl’s strike. The leg would pass uselessly through transformation technique, dispelling it in a puff of smoke revealing that the true target was much smaller and underneath Kiari. She wasn’t just underneath her, she was slightly faster too..for now at least. The small Genin formed a palm and for the first time against a live opponent she saw her opportunity clear as day. With practiced motion her body turned the speed of her dodge into force as hips and shoulders turned forcing a palm strike at Kiari’s thigh.

Despite the surprise attack, Hanako was still scared of the larger genin. She loomed over Hanako like a mountain, and so the girl in a bit of panic leapt backwards and landed on the water. As if to frighten the small genin even more, Moths began to pour out of the woman’s body and fly towards her. As she broke away from Kiari’s reach her right hand whipped out three shuriken from her holster and threw them in a staggered manner at Kiari’s feet, as to try and force the woman further from herself.

This move however was clearly a mistake, and Hanako felt her heart turn cold from realization. Kiari had some fast seals and there was no way for her to possibly interrupt this technique. The distance was actually in favor of the Ninjutsu user now. A Kunai was in hand in an instant fighting off the moths flying at her face - but unless the battle field changed she realized that she was already trapped.

*Fault Line
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
The practitioner throws a palm strike towards an opponents leg utilizing all their momentum and force by swinging their shoulders and hips, targeting the opponent's thigh. Landing this strike causes immense discomfort and a hairline fracture in one of the bones, and if the opponent continues to heavily use and strain the targeted leg, the hairline fracture can degrade into a full severe fracture. The practitioner's Strength must be 5 points higher than the opponent's Strength to achieve the desired effect of this technique.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by Kanade » Tue Jul 12, 2022 6:41 pm

Chiaki had woken up especially early to get a good day's work in on her hospital stay, but then she received a message from Kirari. Messages from Kirari were always a pleasure, no matter the form that they came in. Breaking the seal, she read through the message and chuckled at the audacity of an open invite to spar. Even she wasn't that reck-. The thought stopped there as she sighed and nodded, yes, yes she was that reckless. She nodded along with the accompanying thought that she had just enough time to go back home and get changed for the spar before it began.

Handing off the charts to the charge nurse she bowed her head in a familial way to the man and zipped down the stairs and out to her temporary home. She changed her clothing lightning fast, and wearing her mission attire landed in the training ground, finding that Hanako was already there. Well that was certainly interesting. She made a little finger wave to her pupil before focusing herself on Kirari in front of her. She wondered what she was up to. A two on one? That seemed hardly fair to Kirari, but Chiaki would go along with it.

Squaring up, she placed her hands together, waiting for the battle to begin, but also having her hands together afforded her the ability to make hand seals rather faster than if she had them apart and at her sides. It was an open stance in terms of Taijutsu, but really, she didn't care about that at all. She grinned like a sheepish girl at Kirari and noticed her hair and eyes for the first time.

The moment of distraction was all that Kirari needed apparently to get up close and personal with Chiaki. She was... actually rather slower than Chiaki had thought she would be. Chiaki ducked under the kick that was aimed for her stomach quite easily in fact, which was in and of itself startling to Chiaki and pushed Kirari between the legs hard with her shoulder, rolling to her left and made the seals for her first jutsu, wondering how much was going to be too much for a sparring match. After all, Kirari was a rank below what Chiaki was, and she didn't want to hurt her. She focused her chakra and with a flash of seals, she formed a shield at a little over half of her full strength and moved to make more seals, attempting to tie herself to the smaller genin, If Kirari wanted a two versus one, she would see how well Chiaki could really fight.

A Kyoukan tendril flew with blinding [50] speed towards both Kirari who was right next to her and Hanako, the smaller genin. Then she attempted to sweep Kirari off of her feet with a clumsy sweeping kick move. She was clearly not trained in Taijutsu, but was game for playing tag with the other girl, letting out a low and amused chuckle as she fought. She had no idea what the pollen did, but she hoped that her shield would suffice for a barrier for whatever it was. If it was poison, that would be rather uncomfortable, but she somehow couldn't see Kirari using something like that.

As the pollen surrounded her, she saw it zap among her lightning. And then those damned moths flew into her face again. Snorting and swatting at them, she fell off her balance and plucked one out of her mouth, "How come I always end up with Moths in all my holes when we fight Kirari?" She spat on the ground, tossing the moth to the side and wiping her mouth.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by Sia » Wed Jul 13, 2022 9:00 am

Kirari both was and wasn't surprised to find herself outpaced in speed, and the swift strike that came from Hankao had been surprisingly fierce as it slammed into her leg. "Ow geez." She exclaimed simply before composing herself a bit and watching her moths put in a rather gratuitous amount of work. "I don't know dear you keep leaving your holes open for them I guess." Kirari said with a chuckle, bringing her arms upwards to send more moths flying outwards. Her body cycled through colors and she began to channel chakra. "Stay out of the pollen the moths produce, I know it looks like fire, but its actually laced with paralyzing properties like raiton." She said as the moths began to spew out more of it, flying directly overhead of Chiaki and Hanakao and raining Raiton infused Katon down on them from above. They would have to move out of the way, or things would quickly become nasty for them as the plumes of Katon pollen fluttered and darted about, spreading out from the moth's wing beats like a plague storm of praxic fire. Kirari leapt back from Hanakao's projectiles, and retaliated by sending a plethora of moths to pick up the kunai and bring them to Kirari.

She brought her arms inwards and then shot them forwards as though she were swinging with a sword that noone else could see, and moths flew outwards from her body to latch onto Hanakao and Chiaki. They swarmed their face again, clawing at their nostrils, eyes, and ears. They perched on their clothes, their flesh, and their equipment. From all around the training grounds, more moths began to fly in and assist Kirari. They came in every imaginable color, in all sorts of wild and lustrous patterns the likes of which they had likely never imagined. To Kirari, they were beautiful. "You are faster than I had anticipated." She said to the both of them with a grin. "So I will need to make my moths put in some work on my behalf, since I have no hopes of outpacing you in close quarters." She admitted to the two of them. Moths too began to perch all over Kirari's body, slowly forming themselves into an odd coating that covered most of her body. This continued for some time, and Kirari was, as usual, somewhat tickled by the sensation of them crawling all over and inside of her as they did. She released the dull blue ones from inside herself. They took to the air, and launched themselves into Chiaki's hands, attempting to disrupt her ability to perform jutsu.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by HotelBravo » Wed Jul 13, 2022 4:32 pm

Hanako soon found herself victim to the effects of the Moths’ pollen. She was having a much harder time fending off the Moths than Chiaki, and thus was instead in part due to her inexperience. The moths scratched at her and she fended them off, but she could feel something in the air. Almost Magnetic. The pollen held a charge and as it made contact with her she began to feel pins and needles spread through out her body as sensation of touch drained from her. This combined with the moths caused her to stumble on the water, and having lost sensation she wasn’t properly able to apply the water walking jutsu to her hands and knees as she lost her balance, plunging her into the depths of the river instead.

The river carried Hanako down stream, out of the range of the jutsu, but she was still feeling the effects even if the water washed the pollen off. She struggled in an unfeeling world to claw at the bank and bring herself to the surface. She slipped on her first hand hold and dug her kunai into the river bank. Her lungs had started to burn, but she could hold her breath for this long at least.

She crawled back onto land and hid behind a boulder, hacking up water as she did so. Everything felt numb. Those bugs had been quick to descend upon her and that jutsu had been executed before she could escape further. She never really expected that she would have added much to the fight anyway as she saw Chiaki and Kirari exchange attacks like a pair of lovers.

She much preferred the distance, and thanks to the river carrying her down to a farther point in the field she was further than the 15 meters of the Moth’s jutsu. So even the moths had some limitations it seemed. She had escaped the moths and had broken line of sight for the moment. “She may not be able to spot me if I’m careful.” Hanako whispered to herself. She peaked over the boulder, each move still sending uncomfortable shivers up her nervous system as the numbness danced with the pins and the needles that she felt like she made of in the present.

Her eyes watched the pair in their metaphorical dance. She focused upon Kirari. Watching for patterns and trying to track her with her eyes. She was briefly brought back to the studying she had done - Tracking your opponents moves and making a prediction of where they will be is important at a range. Shinobi were fast paced targets and if you attacked where they were, you would find you only hit air. Instead you had to predict and attack where they would be. Despite this being her first real spar she tried to put this teaching into practice.

She watched like a hawk for when her prediction would match up with reality, and as she saw Kirari in an armor of Moths she thought she had her moment. She to tried to perform the throw to aim an attack for her, but the attack was off. The Kunai had been released at the wrong moment and it went wide, a result of the numbness she was still feeling. Having given herself away with the faulty attack she scanned for a new hiding place. She dove into one of the mudcrawl trenches - completing soaking her lovely pink kimono with mud as she repositioned, and remained out of line of sight.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by Kanade » Wed Jul 13, 2022 8:33 pm

"You know Kirari, maybe I shouldn't talk as much in battle, then I wouldn't keep getting moths in my m-" She got another moth in her mouth and spat it out. "Alright that's it!"

Before the bugs could make it to her hands her hands flew together in a completely new set of seals to combat the moths which were, to her, the most annoying part of this fight, "BUG ZAPPER NO RAITON NO JUTSU~!" She shouted into the area and then a strange bug-zapper like light yellow glow engulfed her above her Raiton armor and as each moth tried to get into her armor, or impede her movement, it was zapped, nonlethally, and fell to the ground paralyzed.

Chiaki nodded a curt 'that's what you get' sort of nod to the bug as it lay on the ground unable to move. She took up a stance that resembled a defensive one that she had seen, standing on one leg, with the other one bent at a fourty five degree angle, and raised her hands so that they resembled snakes. She held it for a good, she supposed, half second before she lost her balance, hopped around, tripped on a stone and landed, hard, on her right side with a 'woomph' noise.

Certainly this was a lot of fun, and she was wondering what Kirari would do about her bug-zapper jutsu to counter it, seeing as so far the moths seemed to be the only things that were attacking her. The lightning or katon or whatever the pollen was made out of seemed to be absorbed little by little by the barrier around her and she felt rather smug about her position in the fight, even though she wasn't really doing much besides trying to mimic taijutsu that she had seen before.

Looking at the small genin rush towards Kirari, she noticed that the movements were precise, more precise than Chiaki could ever hope to be. With a sigh, she sat up, shook the leaves and grass out of her hair, rearranged her gi so that she was ready to fight again and got back up.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

The rainbow elementalist smiled a most wicked smile in the heat of the moment, her eyes darting back and forth between Chiaki and Hanako. She watched Hanako attempt to slighter way unnoticed, and sent a flurry of moths to follow her, they landed amongst the trees and the water, and a few would attempt to merely land on Hanako's back, head, and shoulders, should Hanako not swat them away. Those that had been sent towards Chiaki had indeed found lodging within her open mouth as she spoke, but were quickly zapped harshly with a bit of raiton that Chiaki conjured forth from her body, zapping the little critters and slapping them away quite forcefully. Kirari laughed, a rich, hearty laugh that game from her fake diaphragm. Her hair and eyes began to change color, cycling through a multitude of of gradients and hues before settling on purple as Kirari through together a quick series of hand seals. "Do you hear that?" Kirari asked, though did not elaborate as to what she meant. She forced her moths to obey her commands, and they circled around the area, flapping their wings furiously in such a way that they were far more easier to hear than normal. They chittered, chirped, and made cute little noises, a stark contrast from the pained noise that shot out of the ones Chiaki had zapped with her raiton jutsu.

Kirari saw the projectile from Hanako coming, and stopped performing her hand seals to guide her moths into the kunai in an attempt to throw it off course, pivoted her hips, and performed a swift pirouette, her hand coming down and scooping up the kunai from the ground and instead immediately throwing it towards Chiaki's chest as hard as she could. She followed up by sending moths towards Chiaki again, circling them around her and seeing just how close she could get them to her without them being zapped by Chiaki's bug zapper jutsu. She played with it, tested the range, and the moths began to make noises at Chiaki, as though they were taunting her. Kirari brought her hands up and her chakra began to cycle, causing all of her moths to suddenly change colors at once, into a bright green color before suddenly they began to collectively spew water out of their mouths in Chiaki's and Hanako's directions, attempting to drench them in suiton that, if unavoided, they would quickly realise was not regular suiton at all, for on contact it would immediately ignite, causing flames to spread about the area where the water would touch, including the ground all around the both of them from their separate positions in the training grounds.

"Careful the water is spicy." Kirari said with a chuckle.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by HotelBravo » Wed Jul 20, 2022 12:32 am

Hanako gasped as she saw the moths catch her kunai, which had been flying off course and direct it into Kirari’s hands who immediately threw it at Chiaki. Immediately after Kirari tested her limits with her Moths and activated another moth style jutsu. The Moths began to weep water, only the water ignited on contact with the ground. It was shocking to say the least. Hanako had moved out of the range of the prior jutsu, and this one seemed to have a similar range, and as the limit was 15 meters Hanako found herself safe without having to move too much, although it seemed the Moths had found her and an extension of the jutsu did seem like it was directed at her way even if it didn't quite reach her. That meant that Kirari knew where she was.

This was disappointing just a little, but it couldn’t be helped with the pink Kimono she supposed. She tugged on her obi and loosened the kimono until she slipped out of it and tossed it into a swath of moths that had decided to follow her, catching them like a net. Beneath her Kimono she was clothed in a Kusari.

The cloud of Moths was making it difficult to track Kirari and Chiaki’s movements, but thanks to the technique she had been practicing she felt like she was getting the hang of it, despite the interference. Hanako took a mental measurement and made sure to stay out of Chiaki’s range as she relocated and found a new hiding place. She realized that a straight forward attack wasn’t going to work. She was going to need to start being creative. Kirari’s body hadn’t reacted the way she had expected it to when she made her attack earlier - Hanako realizing that the woman’s body composition was something other than flesh and bone and somehow she still had a decent speed despite the increased weight

911/880 Training Flawless Aim - Tracking

She was thinking that she just kind of felt like a third wheel here. It was true that there seemed to be something almost intimate with the way the two women engaged each other. It made Hanako a bit embarrassed to think about as all the words seemed to have soppy romantic meanings - her cheeks were red at the double meanings in the women’s words as they engaged each other, and it did make Hanako somewhat uncomfortable, as she was ready for that kind of language or thoughts. She did like the idea of pretty boys and maybe women who were romantic with her but it was all serving only as a distraction. Fortunately for Hanako though - it was only one line of thinking among her many lines of thoughts.

She needed the room in her head to focus on the battle, and so these thoughts began to be forced out of her mind, as instead of romantic meetings, angles and degrees and vital organ targets replaced them. As the thoughts were forced out of her head, they spilled out of her mouth instead.

”Sensei really seems to like Kirari. I hadn’t ever met Kirari before, I think maybe she graduated before me. I Wish Chiaki-sensei would stop saying embarrassing things. Its making me feel bad on her behalf. Or maybe I should just leave secretly so they could be alone? I think that they would like that better.”

Hanako thought back to this morning and the scrolls of technique she had borrowed from the library. This secret art scrolls were genin level, and as an authorized genin of the village she had been allowed to study them. This flash of memory only took a hair of a second in time, but for Hanako it was all her busy mind needed to consider what she had read. In all the material there in the scroll there needed to be some technique that could give her an edge in this contest. Chiaki was making the perfect openings for her to do as she wanted at her own leisure. How could she capitalize on it?

She could go back in for more melee? That had seemed more successful, but that would put her in the range of the moths, and she simply had no counter for the strange techniques. The Fire that was electricity, the water that was fire. The first technique that she had gotten hit by had practically incapacitated her for a brief moment - so it had been good that the river had helped her get away. What would have happened if she had just gotten paralyzed there and then had the liquid flame pour on her? She’d be dead.

She considered one technique, another throwing technique that instructed that one give a certain flick of the wrist to cause a backspin on a projectile and thus arcing your throw. People normally used it to throw at targets hiding behind an object, but Hanako had a better idea.

As she repositioned, she tried to stay ahead of the moths by ducking, dodging and weaving between the mudcrawl trenches, the boulders, and the glade of trees, attempting to make herself as about as unpredictable to the moths as possible. As she did this, Hanako pulled out 2 meters of wire and used it to connect her last two kunai, and while she was reluctant to use them, she also put an exploding tag on each. Then she had a smoke bomb, and a shuriken that she placed an exploding tag on. She was about 20 meters away, but was fairly confident she could make that throw even if Kirari was moving. She ducked behind a tree, and then leaped out and made the throw.

First it was the two Kunai and the smoke bomb. Though they were attached to each other with wire, the wire was thin, and difficult to see moving so fast. They were thrown to either side of Kirari, moving left or right would force her to deal with one or the other, and as they were tethered, if they were not simultaneously dealt with the other kunai would wrap around her like a bola, as the stopped momentum would cause it to change directions. Of course if she didn’t move she would get hit by the wire instead and would still get bound by both kunais as they worked to wrap around.

As the smoke bomb detonated, it would cover the fact that Hanako threw the shuriken in an arcing angle. Over the smoke cloud for an attack coming from above. Moving left or right meant dealing with a kunai attached to another kunai. Ducking or jumping meant that the hidden attack was coming from above - its red hot explosive tag whirling as the shuriken arced above the smoke and then straight down upon Kirari.

After all the attacks were released she hopped into the branches of the tree to look over the smoke cloud that her smoke bomb had created so she could see how the attack faired. Her hands pressed together in a tiger seal, chakra welling at her wrists waiting to pour into her seal and detonate her attacks. But she had to be mindful of when to pull the trigger on the attacks otherwise the tages would be wasted, so for now she was patient and taking measure of how Kirari reacted to the attacks before using the exploding tags on her weaponry.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by Kanade » Wed Jul 20, 2022 8:58 pm

Red hair got tossed behind her ear as she got back up, dusted herself off and took a defensive stance. She felt Hanako come back into range for her Kyoukan Tether. Perhaps she could do something with that should the opportunity present itself. Then the girl threw a kunai which was deflected by Kirari. Well that was rather not very nice of Kirari to be throwing things. She saw the small bit of metal as it made its way towards her, she didn’t have time for much, but she was wanting to try out some of her new jutsu. She had learned fuuinjutsu basics from a couple of scrolls from the library. Well, time to see if she had an aptitude for it.

While the bug-zapper jutsu would probably hold against such a small missile that came at her, there was no reason that she shouldn’t do a bit of a magic trick. She had recently seen a magic show, and now it was her turn to make something disappear. She took out a piece of paper and grinned as she tossed it at the kunai. Then she made a single hand seal and the kunai disappeared inside of the paper as if it never was. She shrugged nonchalantly and went to go pick it up, her bug-zapper jutsu firing off shot after shot at the moths that were closing in on her. It wouldn’t deal any damage, not even burns, but instead was pushing them away and rendering them inert.

She grinned and waved the paper in front of her before she was told that the water was spicy. She looked up and sighed. This was going to be a bigger problem than the kunai, and she would have to deal with it with a bit more vigor. Perhaps she could- yes, she probably could do that.

“Looks like rain.” She said, as she formed a couple of quick hand seals and held her hand out for her staff, weaving more hand seals as it sped towards her. Metal sand from the area around her and metal from the staff itself formed, started to billow out from beneath the ring on the shakujo staff, the rings clattering with a great din in the area as the staff grew spikes out of it, and then a thin filament of megallium spun its way through the spikes, eventually, and very quickly, making an umbrella for her. It was quite the umbrella, one that would easily have been a beach umbrella. She twirled it like a parilsol, grinning quite like the idiot at Kirari, she was rather clever, she thought, to use something like this to get rid of the pesky jutsu. As it hit the metal, it burst into flames and Chiaki nodded, apparently it was the right choice to make sure that she had an umbrella around.

“That rain really ‘is’ spicy.” She said with a mildly surprised tone to her voice. She had encountered Maido and knew that sometimes things weren’t as they seemed, but a burning rain? That was something rather new to Chiaki. She had never sparred with, nor gone on any missions with Kirari. She was excited that there was a side to her lover that she didn’t know already. This was just the sort of non-strenuous thing that she had been told by the therapist to do. A low-stakes spar here and there, to build back her mental acuity. She grinned in a thankful way at Kirari as the kunai and wire shot at Kirari from her side. Chiaki wondered how Kirari would deal with that one.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by Sia » Wed Jul 20, 2022 11:23 pm

For a moment, Kirari did nothing, and merely watched the other two a she slowly sidestepped an evaluated her position. Projectiles flew through the air and she sent moths outwards from her arms to intercept them, but she wasn't quick enough, and so the moths didn't make it in time. The projectiles pierced into her body, and lodged into it and...she didn't bleed. Instead, rainbow-colored liquid spurted out from the wounds and Kirari's face contorted into laughter, yes, laughter. She laughed at the both of them, a rich, deep, hearty laugh that echoed from her diaphragm. She smiled wickedly and pulled the weapons out from her body as her body began to glow with the familiar channeling of chakra, suddenly cycling through a myriad of colors as her face, hair, and clothes all began to melt, splitting her own body into two as a clone formed out of the suiton that made up her body. The rest of her began to grow back immediately, though her skin tone began to change rapidly, cycling into a deep, bright blue, a blue so vibrant and bright it was quite a sore to look at, really. Then it changed to pale, peachy, skin, not unlike Chiaki's own. Her hair changed too, it grew longer immediately and changed colors right down the middle, part of it turning a nice, light pink and the other a dark chocolate brown. Her eyes changed too, pink and brown as well, though on opposite sides of her face as the colors of her hair.

"Let's see how--ah ahem," Kirari said, then cleared her throat and said in an entirely different voice, "Let's see how you handle this." Her clone dashed forwards, causing moths to swarm all around its body as it leapt into the trees as Kirari did much the same, following behind the clone in her new appearance and taking the weapons that had been tossed at her and tossing them towards Chiaki and Hanako. As she did so, the clone drew out two kunai itself and tossed them one after another, one at Hankao and the other at Chiaki. The result was that two projectiles would fly towards each of them from entirely different directions, offset just one after the other as the light Kirari threw hers followed by the dark Kirari. Alongside the kunai however were a plethora of moths, about three each towards Chiaki and Hanako, flying towards them in a beeline in an attempt to smash straight into their eyes in an attempt to temporarily blind the two of them. Moths circled around and flew into the light Kirari and the dark Kirari's bodies, then shot back out into the trees surrounding them, keeping an eye on Hanako and Chiaki from afar and continuing to fan out through the training grounds.

After channeling, Kirari will split part of her body off, forming it into a clone while simultaneously generating more suiton out of her body but utilizing her wild chakra to control the gradient and color of it as it forms, causing her to take on a stylized new appearance of her choice as though she had used the basic transformation jutsu but with real, physical form made of her suiton elemental body for the remainder of the thread as the clone takes on her previous appearance. It is a rather basic clone, capable of performing taijutsu.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by HotelBravo » Fri Jul 22, 2022 12:12 am

Perhaps it was a fatal flaw of Hanakos, that when she saw Kirari impaled with her kunai she hesitated to detonate the explosive tags. She continued holding the snake seal, just a heartbeat away from detonating, but she didn’t want to blast Kirari like that. This allowed Kirari to throw a kunai at Chiaki and Hanako, but as the kunai did not have their explosive tags removed not their attached wire this left both still in her control. To avoid Kirari’s clone’s kunai she merely hopped down from her position while chakra went into her handseal and activated a single one of the tags, the explosion caused the kunai to change course and drag its counterpart with it. The detonation charge would be enough to handle the moths that had been flying her direction as well. The Twin Kunai spun like a bola and wrapped around a boulder

Hanako considered her weaponry left. 6 Shuriken, 2 explosive tags and some wire and a flashbang. She recognized that she wasn’t really willing to detonate explosive tags on a fellow Kumo Kunoichi, and there was basically nothing she could do against the cloud of moths. She could detonate them, but then that also was too close to Kirari. If this was a real battle she might have made due with those 6 shuriken, but Shuriken were already so expensive that she wasn’t really interested in buying more to waste on practice. She glanced at her other weapons that had somewhat gruesome fates by being caught in explosions and jutsu alike.

Her thinking was cut short as the trio of moths from the clone arrived shortly after the kunai had hit the tree and were not flying in her direction. She dove through the smoke from her smoke bomb earlier and hoped that this might distract or disorient them - but she had to give them that they were persistent buggers. She supposed it came with being a ninja moth. She imagined cute little Kumo headbands on them before returning back to the present. On the otherside of the smoke now, she dipped, dived and rolled to avoid the moths all the while attempting to track either of the Kirari’s.

It took a bit more mental acuity than she was used to, although she could argue that some of the focus was not completely out of place with her - as it did remind her of the focus she required to train medical jutsu. The Moths were fast though, and coordinated - the combination of which had been plaguing her this entire fight. A Shuriken found its way into her hand as she made her way to the boulder and used its sharp edge to free the surviving wire and explosive tag from the wire. She continued to struggle avoid the Moths, but they were getting scratches in.

The were surprisingly sharp for little bugs. She had never been scratched by moths before, Since they were bugs inside of a water woman, she expected that they were clean and free of bacteria. However on second thought maybe she should make sure to disinfect these scratches when she had a moment to breathe. An idea and a thought suddenly came to her head. This was basically one of the more advanced technique from the scroll wasn’t it?

The Evasive Manuevers technique. It required one to be able to keep focus when under fire and able to throw projectiles accurately while under such duress. She had intended to fight the moths off with the kunai - she wanted to slice off a wing so they stopped scratching her but this was perhaps a somewhat better idea. She began to dash away from Kirari as she practiced avoiding them while simultaneously lining up shots against Kirari.

She ducked and rolled, and thwip! A shuriken was thrown in the direction of the clone. The Moths came by for another attack and she leapt over them and landed into another mudcrawl. She dashed down the trench and stepped in between obstacles as she was continued to be pestered by the moths. She was panting hard as she ran up t he side of the boulder and twisted over the moths in mid air and tried to throw another shuriken, but it went far too wide to actually hit anything. She watched it fly harmlessly and sink into a tree. As she landed on her feet she mentally counted down that she was left with 4 shuriken and the kunai she had picked up a moment before.

Contrary to Kirari and Chiaki, Hanako had sprinting full speed since this practically started and hadn’t had a moment to catch her breath. It was certainly a higher level battle than what she had ever had at the academy. It was almost funny how confident she felt when she first began the engagement to present. She rested her hands on her knees and as her sides burned with every breath and furious moths scratched her face despite her half hearted attempts to wave them away. If this had remained a taijutsu fight she probably would have won, but she had been spending far more stamina than the other two kunoichi.

To top it all off, she had been attempting jutsu she had never practiced before in the middle of combat. She only realized now the great mental strain it had placed on her mind as she began to absorb everything that had happened in just the last few seconds. The moth trio reminded her that this was still the equivalent as an active war zone, so she would need to consider a new way to conserve stamina. She ducked behind a boulder and occasionally swatted at the three moth sisters that continued to pester her and peaked around to try and get a good idea of what was happening on Chiaki’s side of the field.

Chiaki had handled the other techniques very admirably, and to Hanako it had seemed like the Chuunin was unstoppable. Lighting Armor? A metal umbrella made in the heat of the moment? It was really incredible and she was very curious about such techniques. She knew her own affinity was with water though and that did hurt her spirits just a little bit as she had to consider that there was the possibility that she would never learn any new affinities in her life.

Having finally had sufficient time to get her breathing back under control she used the kunai to attack the three moths. To be honest her running out of stamina in what felt so early in the contest was somewhat of an embarrassment to the genin. After all, Kirari and Chiaki had been using multiple jutsu. To be fair both Kunoichi were a lot better with their chakra control and management than Hanako was.

Kirari had effectively controlled the battlefield with her moth jutsu and had quite effectively prevented any ideas of coming closer. So Hanako who had studied primarily hand to hand combat for the duel had found herself somewhat lacking and unprepared. She peaked around the boulder again to gauge how Kirari was doing now and to check on the location of the clone as well as on the original.

She needed some kind of plan if she really wanted to impress Chiaki and win this spar. It was just shard to think of something that wasn’t just incredibly dangerous. Actually… Kirari was made of water so she’d be fine right? Probably. Her either attack wasn’t even visible now even though it had hit the water woman earlier, and her attack against Kirari’s thigh had been mostly ineffectual before Kirari didn’t even have any bones. From the beginning Hanako had engaged this fight in the wrong way, but it was just frustrating because she didn’t have any other way to fight. At least not right now.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by Kanade » Fri Jul 22, 2022 1:41 am

Chiaki watched as the projectiles hit Kirari with a sickening noise like kunai hitting the surface of water and she rushed to try to help, but then was stopped cold as Kirari started to laugh, yes, laugh. She raised an eyebrow as Kirari's appearance and seemingly her demeanour changed. Perhaps she should use her Kyoukan tether to see how Kirari was doing? Then Kirari bounded off into the woods, making another clone. She was, after all, still able to do that, and with such vigor.

An explosion came from one of the kunai and the wire that was wound around both of them made them spin off harmlessly. Really was a good display, really was a great use of her explosion tags.

Chiaki sighed and walked calmly over to the boulder, "Do you want some more kunai?" Chiaki asked as her jutsu zapped the moths around Hanako. They screeched and were paralyzed and stopped moving. She didn't offer the girl a hand up, but instead offered her the one kunai she had sealed, and all of her kunai and a couple of her smoke bombs, "I don't know why I carry these. Habit I suppose?" She shrugged and handed them to Hanako.

"If you battle full-tilt for a long time, always on the offensive and trading blows, you can't learn your opponents tactics." She offered, stating the obvious. She had done the same so there really was no judgement in her voice, just a sigh because she had done the same thing on her own first mission, "Then again, you also usually can't get the upperhand and so far the only person to land a blow on Kirari has been you." She sighed and rolled her neck from side to side before doing some other stretches.

"I'm going ahead to to try to find her, and I'm sure you'll hear some commotion. Try to sit still for a while, regain your stamina, and then try some stealth tactics." She shrugged, "I don't know if they'll work since Kirari has those hole-seeking moths but it's worth a shot." She scratched her head with her umbrella and then shook it irritated that it was still in that form. The umbrella fell away, leaving her Shakujo.

Nodding with satisfaction, she ran ahead, jumping from tree to tree and looking for a greater concentration of moths.

The bad thing? Her bug-zapper jutsu made her a humming, thrumming, zapping mess. She wasn't going to sneak up on anything with half an ear in this forest.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by HotelBravo » Fri Jul 22, 2022 1:40 pm

Hanako accepted the Kunai from Kirari. Kunai were a multipurpose tool and one could never have a enough Kunai. She actually did like them better than shuriken, but Shuriken were smaller and easier to store. She slipped the kunai into the pouch. ”I think I’m not a very good match against Kirari. She has a cloak of Moths and I don’t have a way to deal with it. If I don’t spend alot of effort her moths will just catch my weapons.” She thought to herself outloud as she examined the kunai in her hand and the smoke bomb in the other.

”Okay Sensei. Whenever you are ready. She began to contemplate her next plan as she hid from sight and waited to see what would happen next

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by Sia » Fri Jul 22, 2022 8:18 pm

The rainbow elementalist and her clone shifted through the trees, darting about from limb to limb in pursuit of Chiaki and Hanako, sending out moths far in wind to act as scouts and they emitted very specific noises once they had found their prey, but, Kirari slowed down. She shifted her appearance back into that of her regular self, and produced an additional clone of herself in the process, causing a light skinned clone to sail forwards through the air to join up with the dark skinned clone whilst the real Kirari hung back a bit, hiding herself in the thick foliage of a particular lucious and leafy tree. The clones honed in on the noise the moths were making, the wonderful, multicolored little fuzzy winged creatures that lead the way towards Kirari's training partners. Her clones circled around, dropping down onto the ground and landing alarmingly close to Chiaki and Hanako. "Hey, what's up guys?" The clones said in unison, the lighter skinned one having landed in front of Chiaki whilst the other landed by Hanako. "You're not coming up with a plan are you?" Said the darker one. "'Cause like...that could be bad." Said the lighter one.

From the rear, Kirari began channeling chakra. She willed her wild chakra to take shape and to mutate her body. Rainbow spirals of chakra began to rivet and rifle throughout her very being. It permeated outwards from her core and flooded into her body and caused to her begin cycling through colors extraordinarily quickly as she molded and formed it into her desired shapes. She thought of the great beast of Kirigakure that Cros had spoken to her of and how she tangoed with hordes of enemies at once using octopus tentacles made of blood. This was not quite exactly the vision Kirari saw for herself as a combatant, but, it also was not exactly a bad idea. She surged chakra and with the aid of her moths began to mold the wild chakra that her moths had fed on into a new shape. Within moments, tendrils of suiton elongated out of her arms, writhing and retching about and colliding with the branches of the tree she was hiding in. No, this wasn't quite right, she had thought to herself. She considered her position for a moment as she listened to her clones chat with her training partners. The clones would, both suddenly jump forwards, attempting to tackle her opponents to the ground, diving into their abdomens with their arms stretched out wide to wrap around them, havig tucked in their hips and bent their knees before springing into action. From her perch, Kirari extended out her tendrils, reaching into the branch of a nearby tree and pulling herself towards it as more rainbow-colored tendrils began to form from her body. They shot out rapidly, being produced from the moths inside of her body, and exited outwards from her back, reaching into the trees around her and pulling and propelling her through the forest closer towards Chiaki and Hanako as she enjoyed the breeze this caused to brush against her face.

At one point, the tendrils even receded closer together, flapping somewhat like wings to slow her down so as not to mistime her landing into another tree branch, before just as quickly the tendrils spread back apart and grasped onto the trees limbs and continued to help her close the distance to where her clones had already found the two of them. Kirari wound up landing harshly on the ground not far from them and merely watched from a distance as her clones engaged in close quarters combat with Chiaki and Hanako. She knew the clones would be quite weak, but since it was training, they would surely serve their purpose.

Rainbow Moth Harbinger
C-Ranked Suiton Swarm Jutsu
Channeling the chakra of her moths, the moths inside of Kirari's body will produce tendrils made of a color of Kirari's choice out of suiton and burst them outwards from any given locations on her body, up to twelve in total. These tendrils may be up to Kirari's heart-size in thickness and may stretch up to 30 meters away from her body. Each of the twelve tendrils are connected to a separate moth within Kirari's body and each of the tendrils may be moved independently from each other as fully functioning limbs. Other moths will typically transition from inside of Kirari's body into the tendrils and the tendrils themselves have a strength and speed of up to [sync] and last for as long as Kirari has moths inside of her body, utilizing the doton passive instead of the suiton passive through her wild chakra ability.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by HotelBravo » Sat Jul 23, 2022 4:55 pm

After Hanako had received the kunai from Chiaki, two Kiraris arrived on the scene. One darker and the other lighter. The significance of the tone of the clones was lost on Hanako as most of Kirari’s jutsu had. It all appeared to be one thing but was actually another and she presumed this was true for the clones too. It was likely best to stay away from them due t o whatever tricks they might have up their sleeves. Hanako had pressed her back against the boulder behind her with a hand against the cool hard surface. Chakra spread from her hand in the art of wall walking and became an anchor point for her. The darker clone in front of Hanako asked if she was coming up with a plan, and then in unison they charged. Hanako twisted herself into the air, her hand being the pivot point that she rested her weight upon as it was stuck to the boulder with the basic academy jutsu. This would make the clone tackle the bould instead of Hanako unless she managed to change directions, however Hanako was not so forgiving for the over extension - A kunai was tossed into the tackling profile of the clone a hit would be enough to dispel it.

Hanako, now upside down, stuck her feet to the boulder and did a cartwheel up the boulder until she was on top of it and was on her feet again. A flash tag stuck to its surface in her passing. She was still breathing heard from all the sprinting earlier and still hadn’t really had the opportunity to rest. She wiped the sweat from her forehead as she looked at the ridiculous tentacle jutsu that Kirari had performed, allowing her waterry body to turn into 30 meter long vines of liquid. This meant that once again she was outranged by the Moth Kunoichi, but then nothing had really changed in this fight, other than that Hanako now had 4 more kunai than she had a second ago.

The first matter was to retreat. Hanako used her evasive maneuver to move out of the 30 meter reach, and if she heard any of the tentacles moving to stop her she would form a quick seal to detonate the flash tag. Hopefully Chiaki would forgive her if that happened. How was she supposed to hide from these moths and wait for an opening? Suddenly Hanako realized she was close to the river again. The Moths seemed well acquainted with water, but that was water that didn’t act like water - this strange rainbow genin’s tricks. Common sense told her that diving into the water would hide her scent and even if they were somewhat nautical a moth’s wings and weight weren’t enough to give it any power to swim through the river’s moving water - they would float at the surface and would be dragged away by the current.

So the girl slid into the river and held onto the bank. She peaked over the edge as she held onto its sides and watched for a potential opportunity to follow up. Even with twelve tentacles a human still had blind spots and could only multitask so much.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by Kanade » Sun Jul 24, 2022 10:55 pm

"Huh, water tendrils." Chiaki said as the two clones showed up. Neither looked like Kirari, but she had seen Maido change into many different shapes so she seemed rather unfazed. She had faced worse with Maido and Kirari still seemed to be doing things that either were playful or rather gentle compared to the rigorous training she had received with kintsugi.

"You know, that's a good idea. Thanks Kirari!" Chiaki wove a series of hand seals as the clones closed in on her, slowly compared to the fights she had been a part of till now and lightning erupted from Chiaki's shoulders, whipping at the clones and attempting to hold them in a tentacle's grasp. There was four of them, and they reached out two to a clone and attempted to wrap around them. If they struck the clones, the battle, chiaki thought, would be effectively over, as they would paralyze Kirari. If they didn't hit, then she would try again. She still had confidence in her Raiton shield that she had up, so she would allow the tentacles to try to do their worst to her, but stood stock still, attempting to hit two targets at once.

Something that she hadn't ever done before this. She always only had one target, not multiple. Even when there was a fight for the greaves, there was only one target. This was truly a pleasure, to be able to try out new jutsu in a fight that she knew she wouldn’t be seriously hurt in, nor die in. Rather refreshing.

Even when she was sparring with her fellow chuunin, she was always leery that she would get hit by an attack that was too powerful and she would die. Especially when she trained with the Raikage that one time. She still could feel the sting of his lariat.

What a neat day for training new jutsu.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by Sia » Wed Jul 27, 2022 2:11 pm

She darted left, then right, her tendrils reaching into the trees and yanking her back and forth as she launched herself into the air towards the two of them, watching as Chiaki sent raiton tendrils into her two clones, which, did very effectively stop the both of them in her tracks. Hanako threw a kunai and The clones were shocked harshly and burst into suiton, sending water about the area. Kirari lost sight of Hanako and stayed a safe distance away from Chiaki, staring at her analytically from a distance. "Hmm. You're a fan of them then I take it?" She said after a moment of consideration and willed the suiton limbs to hoist her up into a nearby tree. Bright red orange chakra began to flow outwards from Kirari's body, enveloping he entirely and causing her to catch on fire. Her skin, her hair, her eyes, it all turned orange, red, and yellow, resembling what could only be described as liquid fire. This coloration spread out into her suiton limbs, which began to ignite.

"Are you just going to continue running away, I may not be very fast, but, I can track you for miles you know." She said as moths began to exit outwards out of her tendrils, carrying volleys of fire with them through the air that rained down as pollen over Chiaki's head, tiny spores of katon clouds that drifted towards the ground and made shocking zappy noises as it touched the trees and leaves above her. Some of it caught on fire and bega to spread quite quickly, soon, it spread from one tree to another, and the entire area would quickly become engulfed in flames as orange Kirari darted through the trees, spreading fire in many directions at once.

She dropped down closer to Chiaki and slung all twelve of her tendrils into Chiaki's own tendrils, attempting to wrangle two of her own tendrils around the bases of Chiaki's own, each. Her spare tendrils would move for Chiaki's legs, attempting to wrap around her ankles and sweep her forcefully off of her feet and lift her into the air upside down as the other two spare tendrils attempted to wrap around her wrists, spreading them apart if Chiaki wasn't quick enough to retaliate. As she had descended though, the coloration of her suiton body and its created tendrils shifted back into a more regular suiton appearance and the area around Kirari ceased to catch on fire as all of the flames in Kirari's body suddenly were sucked into her right hand. Kirari's bare hand pointed at Chiaki and began to channel chakra. A small sphere of black katon appeared in her pointed fingertip and she shot it outwards past Chiaki's left ear, purposefully missing and smacking into a tree behind her and setting it ablaze with black fire. Moths shot out from Kirari's tendrils even more, and set themselves on black fire as they dove into the water after Hanako, charging through the water with little restriction to their movement and moving unhindered by the current. If they managed to find them, they would bite and claw away at them. She looked from Chiaki to where the moths had gone for a moment. "Your friend is pretty agile." She said with a smirk. "I'm having trouble catching them."

Black Moths Sacrifice
D-Ranked Katon Ninjutsu
Channeling chakra into her swarm, a mass of moths and generated Katon in the shape of moths equal to her body size will burst into orange and black katon and spread apart to launch themselves at targets in a cone from Kirari or the swarm, up to 15 meters away from their origin. As the body-sized shape of katon and moths spreads apart, it will fly forwards and strike into everything in a 15 meter wide and tall path, causing moths to slam into targets within that vicinity using [sync] strength and speed. Anything struck by a moth will have a [sync] 5 meter radius plume of black flames ignite around the moth, which will die from this process. The black flames produced by this technique do not ignite and spread at this stage of the technique but are given the doton passive, and so are permanent for the duration of the thread until another force puts them out.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by HotelBravo » Wed Jul 27, 2022 11:16 pm

Hanako saw the black mass hit a nearby tree and explode into a barrage of moths in all directions. Thanks to the tree’s proximity, this put Hanako in range of the attack - and there wasn’t much time to react. She ducked into the water fully submersing herself, thinking to use the moth’s nature against them, but she misjudged. Of course moths with Kirari would be able to swim. All of her techniques had been unintuitive to this point so Hanako really should have known better. The mistake however would cost her as moths turned into suicide bombers errupting into black flames which danced even under the water - and that was of course because there were not actually flames but earth.

Her Kusari absorbed some of the impact of the detonating moths, but it was still a stronger detonation than she could endure. Already exhausted and not having a moment to catch her breath and falling for this technique meant that black flame now danced along Hanako’s body. The only fortunate part of this flame, was that despite how it looked it acted like earth, and so did not burn. The force of the initial impact was where the damage had been, although the Earthen flames continued to weigh her down in the water and suddenly she was in very real danger.

She raced against her waning breath, her kunai digging into the side of the river bed like a climbing gear. Right before she found herself gulping down water she breached the surface and sucked in a lungful of sweet oxygen. She crawled over to a boulder on the opposite side of t he river and glanced at the kunai in her hand. Kunais had larged spade shaped blades which was made for digging, and so she dug t through the seemingly looking fire that was actually earth to get it off herself. It felt like digging through wet mud - which was likely true because she and the fire had been under water just a second ago.

The genin laid her head back against the stone and thought about how confident she had been at the start of the engagement versus how she had come to be now. She had let Kirari set the range, and Hanako’s own caution had worked against her as Kirari had the leisure to do as she pleased.

Hanako was in pain all over, and despite her hardest to remain professional tears streamed down her face. The bruises from the exploding moths reignited the paint from the earlier moth attack. This marked the second time Hanako had been caught in a moth jutsu and this had left her sore all over.

Hanako retreated further from the fight to make sure that she was now completely out of range of any purposeful or unpurposeful attacks. Finding herself in safety again she began to nurse her injuries as she slunked down next to a pile of dirt and reviewed the lessons of the day.

She needed to be more ready to handle unknown jutsu. She needed speed to react. She needed techniques that could defend and techniques that could d eal with a large swarm. It started to make sense why some people considered Shuriken-jutsu a technique of the past, and Kirari certainly exemplified that. But then again, Kirari was clearly several years older than her so did it really count?

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by Kanade » Sat Jul 30, 2022 12:40 pm

Chiaki watched as the tendrils came from Kirari, and she didn’t know if this was a clone, whether she had the main body already paralyzed, or whether she needed to try to paralyze Kirari again. Seeing that her pupil was submerged in the water, she sighed, “You know, she’s not very obscured there.” Chiaki formed a series of hand seals inhaled and blew a big silicone bubble over herself, which severed the tendrils’ grip on Kirari’s clones. She didn’t know what really to do now, as the tendrils assailed her bubble, she found that it had popped and she knew that she needed to figure out a way to get the silicone release to be a bit stronger.

She wove another set of hand-seals and moved her head out of the way of the black fire that whizzed past, quite a bit aways from her head, but still made her flinch, “You fight rather playfully.” She grinned, then coated three kunai in raiton, threw them at the clones and at Kirari herself with very little strength, but aimed for the clones’ left legs and hers as well. She didn’t want to hurt Kirari, just hinder her, and wanted to see what Kirari was capable of in the fight, “You know, I should probably go and heal Hanako, she’s rather less experienced with battles than you or I.” She grinned, dodged the tendrils’ grip and jumped back, making for where her tether told her that Hanako was. It was like following a thin thread, and she felt when she was back in range of Hanako. She probably wasn’t too hurt, as Kirari was only training with her, but she wanted to make sure of it.

“Alright Hanako, wherever you are, back up on your feet. This is supposed to be a two-on-one and I am not combatant.” She said to herself, Hanako not in sight as she wove another, third, set of hand seals and pumped healing chakra into it. It was a bit of overkill, but should at least take care of any injuries that had been sustained in the battle.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by Sia » Fri Nov 18, 2022 10:52 am

Kirari's tendrils hoisted up into the tree branches and propelled her backwards through the air as her clones were dispersed by the Kunai sent in their direction. Kirari dispelled her tendrils mid-air, then landed softly on a tree branch, staring down at Chiaki as moths began to accumulate around the both of them. Kirari examined the forest. The battlefield. Her mind drifted. Where had Hanako wandered off to? Kirari had lost track of them, though she chuckled at the realization that they were in fact very much hiding after Chiaki's words emmanated through the air. "Oh I suppose you can hide if you want." Kirari began to surge chakra into her body and into her moths. Grotesquely, they began to exit outwards from her body, crawling, flying, gliding, singing, screaming, and buzzing their way out of her body and forming into a massive cloud that obscured Kirari's vision of Chiaki and so she assumed obscured Chiaki's vision of herself as well.

The cloud of moths suddenly shot towards Chiaki at a rather tempered and slow sort of speed as Kirari leapt to another tree branch, doing her best to remain out of Chiaki's line of sight as she maneuvered around the forest, looking for Hanako quietly. She wondered whether it was easier to pick off Hanako first or Chiaki. Chiaki was a medical ninja and, by all accounts, Kirari wasn't entirely sure she was even capable of true combat. At least, not that she had seen yet anyway. Still, she had shown to have a few tricks up her sleeves. Hmm, she continued in thought.

So, Hanako was scared perhaps. Likely not thinking correctly then, she supposed and thus likely to be an easier target. Or....Or it was possible that Hanako was baiting Kirari out, making her waste time and luring her into a trap. Perhaps Hanako was a ferocious warrior once backed into a corner. Kirari wouldn't know, at least, not right away. She had to find Hanako first, after all.

Kirari Throws Moths at Everyone

Post by HotelBravo » Sun Nov 20, 2022 1:34 am

Hanako groaned at the words of Chiaki. The woman expected her to fight for her even though in all areas the water woman was superior save in direct hand to hand combat, but hand to hand combat was all but useless because she was made of water. Chiaki urged Hanako to engage when nothing she did would work and really only Chiaki had any type of jutsu that could counter her… Hanako would need to run through her studies and search for clues. Using any type of Elemental Jutsu seemed like it wouldn’t work on Kiari - her jutsu and moths seemed to have strange effects so the counter element ninjutsu would be effectively worthless. She needed to think of something outside of ninjutsu. Taijutsu? No. Genjutsu? Hanako was no good at that, it had been one of the weaknesses she had in the academy. Ninjutsu? No she had already crossed that out. Ijutsu? That was possible - but the woman’s body and make up made Hanako’s medical knowledge useless.

What other types of jutsu could there be? Puppetry? She had no puppets. Sensory? She could maybe try detecting a weak spot. It was possible that Kiari had no weak point - her body was made of water… but then what keeps her whole and coherent and tangible? This idea began to have some merit the more she considered it. Hanako’s hands formed a series of seals Inu! Tori! Saru! Mi! Her fingers were interlocked and clasped together with the thumb on the outside of her hands, her palms pressed together. Her chakra was kneaded like dough within her gut and then expelled. An invisible wave of chakra left her body and as it contacted the objects and people in the area, the chakra returned. The first wave that returned gave Hanako a headache at the information overload.

The chakra was telling her something, but the information! There was just too much to make sense of what was there. The Second wave returned. She began to focus on the things that she needed to know rather than everything all at once. Yes, just like that. She began to open her awareness slowly but surely as she came to understand the chakra.

She could detect the mass of moths and other chakras and it formed a sort of blurb of chakra that made reading any kind of chakra with accuracy. There was one clue to the jutsu, however, the closer the moths the flew in proximity to her the easier it was for Hanako to identify them as individuals as opposed to a mass of chakra. How anyone could have so much chakra flowing about was beyond Hanako. She had no choice but to close the distance and hope that this gambit paid off. If it didn’t things would get pretty dicey for the genin.

With the buzzing of chakra in her mind’s eye telling her where Chiaki and Kiari’s general direction was, finding the pair was the easy part of the task. Hanako got to her feet and continued behind boulders as she made her approach. She moved with as much stealth as she could, but she was aware that this would be able to last when Kiari’s moths seemed to provide her with an awareness of her surroundings. It was much like the Sensory jutsu that Hanako was developing, only it used living organisms instead.

She moved back into range just at the edge of the moths.

Hanako took out the smoke bombs that Chiaki had given her earlier and the kunais. She had used up her wire earlier with her clever strategies, but now she was about to come up with a new one. From her understanding of Moths they still navigated by sight even if they had more sensitive organs in the form of the feelers they had on their heads. It would be a triple edged sword but Hanako figured that she would be able to navigate in the clouds even when the others would be hard pressed due to the blocking of the jutsu.

She lept from her cover and threw a kunai with an smoke bomb attached into the cloud of moths. Even if the moths caught the kunai like they had before the smoke bomb would detonate and fill the area with smoke. Hanako then dove into the smoke and whirling mass of moths. The Moths had their own chakra, but Chiaki and Kiari were stronger sources of chakra. Chiaki’s chakra signature would not have the same mass of Moths that Hanako had come to recognize as Kiari’s, and additionally Hanako was getting a clearer sense of Kiari’s chakra extending in tendrils.

Hanako focused more on the Chakra with the tendrils as she approached even closer and searched for any kind of concentrations of chakra in the elemental body of Kiari’s. She got within Ten meters of Kiari and then she finally began to recognize the point. Hanako used the Flawless Aim Style Tracking to follow the movements of the core. She didn’t want to hurt Kiari but this was the only way to land a decisive blow and bring this spar to a close.

She hurled the kunai with the aim of a projectile specialist. The kunai would dance between the moths as it barrelled through the air and smoke towards Kiari’s water body. Towards the core of her chakra which Hanako was reasonably sure was the lynch pin to this whole Elemental body jutsu, and was becoming more certain that this was the only spot that would actually put any pressure on Kiari.

”Chiaki Sensei, how much longer does this have to go? Would it be okay to stop the spar now? I’ve taken some hard hits from the moth jutsu earlier.”

First performing handseals, this sensor jutsu is used by shinobi to feel chakra sources within a radius of 35 meters. While this jutsu is fairly helpful in sensing chakra, it is unable to actually pinpoint specific chakras outside of a 10m radius. This only gives the Shinobi an idea of how many entities with chakra are present in their general area.
