Jeiku sighed as he pushed onwards through the forest. The woods outside the Village Hidden in the Clouds were often huge, extending miles in many directions. Jeiku had spent a lot of time as a child hiking through the forests. He would climb the trees, and swim in the small lakes. For whatever reason, he always preferred traveling in the forest to the other mountainous regions around the village. His father, who never became a shinobi, had enjoyed hiking as well, and the two of them often travelled together through the terrain of Lightning Country. However, Jeiku was not preparing for a hike that day.

Jeiku’s thoughts turned back to his father and the days he spent hiking as a child. He remembered falling down one day on the way home from a long hike. He was seven years old, and his father bent down to pick him up. Jeiku had hurt his ankle, and they were still miles away from the village. Jeiku had pleaded with his father to carry him, but his father had refused. Jeiku remembered vividly his father leaning over, and whispering into his ear.
You can always go one more mile.

Jeiku shook his head as he stepped over a nearby tree root. Looking up, he had found it; a small clearing, roughly 20 feet in diameter. Trees sprung up from every direction, creating an almost circular shape. Jeiku had come here to train before; he and his father had discovered this place years ago. It was nice and quiet, far enough away from the village to be isolated but close enough to travel to and from the same day.

Jeiku stepped into the center of the clearing, and took a deep breath in. It was time to get down to work. He raised his hands, still clenched in fists, and brought them together. He took another deep breath as he began the hand signs.

“Tora, I, Inu, Mi, Saru…” he thought as he slowly finished the hand seals. As soon as he did, he threw his right arm down to the ground, stretching it out as far as it would go. The inside of his hand began to glow as a small ball of liquid lightning formed in his hand. It was small, just about three inches wide. He raised his arm and bent his elbow so as to have it stick out behind him, with the sphere of storm energy right beside his face. Looking out into the woods, he found his target, a tree roughly 60 feet away. This should be easy enough; Jeiku had hit targets as far as 90 feet away before. He paused for just a moment before swinging his arm forward. The small sphere shot forwards at a great speed, flying into the forest, and slamming into the tree.

Jeiku smiled. He was breathing heavy now; the Firefly Sniper technique was the most advanced move he knew, and his limit was three. After one, he would be breathing heavy. After two, he would begin to sweat. And after three, he’d need to rest. He had plenty of accuracy, and control; just not enough stamina. Today, he would try for four.

Jeiku approached his target, and placed his hand on the tree. In the center of the tree trunk was a small hole. He let out a sigh; it was a direct hit. He slowly brought himself back to the clearing. He had gotten control of his breathing again, and returned to the center of the clearing. He planted his feet firmly on the ground, and looked around for another target, this time facing the other direction. He found it; a large boulder, about 75 feet away. He brought his hands together slowly.
“Tora, I, Inu, Mi, Saru…” he thought to himself again as he made the hand seals. Jeiku shot his arm out again, and once again the palm of his hand began to shine as he concentrated his chakra. The small, glowing sphere of storm liquid lightning appeared again, and Jeiku brought it up to his face just like before. Jeiku felt the first drop of sweat fall down the side of his face as he held the attack. In one swift movement, he fired the attack forward, and it whizzed away past the trees and slammed right into the boulder. Jeiku raised his arms in triumph. Another good hit.

Jeiku whipped the sweat off his face and dropped to the ground on his knees. The jutsu really was taking a lot out of him, and he could feel it. On a bad day, two was his limit. But he wasn’t finished yet. Jeiku stood back up, and began the hand seals once more. “Tora, I, Inu, Mi, Saru…” he though once more. He shot his hand towards the ground again, and concentrated. The small sphere of liquid lightning appeared once more, suspended an inch off his hand. He raised his hand once more as he searched for a target. He picked an easy one; another tree, this time just 40 feet away. He swung his arm forward, sending the sphere flying forwards. He watched as the attack grazed its target, cutting a small hole in the side of the tree.

Jeiku dropped to the ground. He was sweating profusely now, and his eyes were beginning to sting. He raised his arms to his face to wipe the sweat from his eyes. He was spent; the three attacks had emptied him of almost all of his chakra. He lay on the ground for a few more seconds before struggling to his feet.

“You can always… go one more…” Jeiku said aloud as he straightened himself out. He slowly brought his hands together. “Tora, I, Inu, Mi, Saru…” He dropped his right hand to the ground. The palm of his hand was burnt from the use of all his chakra, and it hurt as he tried to push what little he had left into his hand. A spark shot out of his hand, sending him falling backwards. He dropped to the ground, breathing heavily. There was no way he was getting a fourth. On the plus side, he thought, this was the furthest he had even been able to push himself.

He lied on the ground for another few minutes before standing once more. Blowing on his right palm to cool it down, Jeiku, looked towards the route he had come from. That was probably enough for today.

The sweat dripped down Jeiku’s face as he continued his workout. “Ninety-nine…. One hundred!” Jeiku dropped to the ground. He lay there catching his breath for about a minute before rolling over onto his back. Still breathing heavily, he thought about doing more pushups, but decided against it. That was probably enough; after all, his chest muscles were getting pretty sore. Jeiku was not a fan of strength training, but it wasn’t the worst either.

Jeiku rose to his feet, looking around. He was in his normal training area, a small clearing in the middle of the woods, not too far from the Village Hidden in the Clouds. The trees around the area were quite high, and Jeiku often used them to strengthen his speed. But that wouldn’t be for today.

Jeiku turned towards a small path; he needed a change of scenery for the next part of his training. Pushups were a good warm-up, but Jeiku wanted to do something more challenging, and useful, for the bulk of his challenge. He began to walk slowly forward, heading into the woods. He walked for some time, slowly picking up speed as his energy returned to him. He enjoyed the walk, watching the birds that flew, and the squirrels and other woodland creatures he had come to know from his journeys into the woods as a child. The sun was still high in the sky, so there was plenty of time for training.

He had been walking for about an hour when he finally reached it; the side of a mountain that stretched high into the sky. Immediately in front of Jeiku was a vertical climb; the side of a cliff that was built into the mountain. Jeiku was unsure of how tall the mountain itself actually was itself, but the cliff was easily fifty feet high; it would be the perfect continuation for his strength training.

Jeiku walked up the side of the mountain, and in one swift motion, pushed himself into the air, grabbing several rocks on the mountainside. Luckily, Jeiku was able to find a pathway, and, pushing up from rock to rock, he began to scale the cliff. He grabbed a rock with his right hand, and pushed off with his left leg.

As he climbed, his thoughts turned to other things. He thought about the war that was currently destroying the Lightning Country. Jeiku had never agreed with the war; the thought it was unnecessary, and a waste of lives and money, and he thought it was being mishandled on both sides, and on every level. He would obey his orders, of course; he was a shinobi. But that wouldn’t stop him from thinking the way he did, and supporting what he thought was right. Personally, he felt the Raikage had been a joke, and he blamed the man for the war.

Jeiku snapped out of his daydream when he came to an area of the cliff without the proper stepping stones to climb further. He looked up, and saw there were plenty of stones just a few feet higher. It took him a moment, but Jeiku devised a plan. He placed both of his feet on lower stones, and all at once, he pushed his body up, leaping in the air several feet upwards. He latched on to the rocks, grabbing tightly. He held himself there for a moment, barely believing that his plan worked. He sighed, relieved.

Just as he believed he was safe, the rock holding up Jeiku’s left foot fell. Jeiku felt as though his was falling, but only until his right foot managed to take all the weight. Jeiku sighed in relief again, but he felt his right foot beginning to shake. He put more weight on his arms, and began to climb again, this time more carefully.

It wasn’t long before he grabbed another rock that began to fall. His left hand swung out as he watched the rock drop to the base of the mountain. He was very high up now; at least some 30 feet off the ground. A fall from here would cause serious damage. If Jeiku wasn’t killed on impact, it might at least paralyze him. He began to worry, and became nervous. His hands started to shake as he reached for the next stone.

No! He shook himself out of it. He had to focus. He turned back to the mountain, grabbing another stone with his left hand. He would only focus on climbing. Pushing onwards, he refused to allow himself to think about anything else. He was drenched in sweat, but he wasn’t sure if that was because of the intensity of the workout, or his worrying about falling. He continued, faster now, grabbing the next stones. As he grabbed the first landing, he felt his body get lighter, as if a weight was lifted. He was almost there.

All at once, he pushed off with his feet, and pulled up with his arms, throwing himself up onto the landing. Breathing heavily, he rolled over on his back. He looked up at the sky; the sun was beginning to set. It was about time to head back to the village. That wasn’t an issue; he was dead tired from the workout anyway.

Jeiku let out a short yelp as he finished lifting the boulder. It certainly was heavy, but Jeiku had gotten a lot stronger the past few weeks. He dropped the boulder to the ground in front of him, and it fell with a loud thud. Letting out a few loud breaths he turned around and smiled. The boulder would have been much too heavy for him even just a few weeks before. He jumped up and down! He was excited. He had to do more. What would be next?

Jeiku turned towards the mountain. He had taken up strength training in a rocky area beside a mountain; not an uncommon occurrence in the Lightning Country. They provided him with rocks to lift, walls to climb, and nice, solid surfaces to push off of. The boulder he had lifted was one of many; he had been able to begin small, and grow larger each time he trained. But today, he had lifted the heaviest of the boulders he plausibly could lift. It was for that reason he decided his next exercise would be a climb.

He was next to a rather nice wall for climbing. It was nearly 60 feet high, with plenty of jutting stones for footholds. He quickly position himself towards the wall before leaping into the air, grabbing one of the stones nearly 15 feet off the ground. He smiled as he settled his feet into proper footholds. He took a deep breath, and began. He reached forward vigorously, almost lunging as he pushed himself up the wall. He grabbed the next stone, and pushed onwards; it seemed easier to him than it had before.

He was about three quarters of the way up the climb when he stopped for a breather. Jeiku held on tightly as he looked out over the woods. He was quite high, but the height didn’t bother him anymore. Everything seemed so peaceful, even in a time of war. It was weird, he thought; how could everything just go on here when there was such a large war going on? The plants kept growing, the birds kept chirping; people kept hiking. It was all like the world was ignoring the war. Or was it that people focused on the war, ignoring the world?

Jeiku turned back to the mountain. He began climbing again, one pull after the next. He slowly picked up speed again, until he was scaling the wall even faster than before. It only took him a short while to reach the top; a small landing, with another large cliff just behind it. The landing was small, just a few feet wide, and Jeiku couldn’t lie down on it comfortably. He let his arm hang down off the cliff as he caught his breath. Once he had, he looked up at the next climb. It wasn’t too far; just another 20 feet or so. It looked good enough to climb, Jeiku thought. He threw himself up onto the wall and continued climbing.

The climb was much shorter, but Jeiku was far more tired. His arms were beginning to hurt, and his fingers were beginning to ache. They hurt so badly that his hand slipped as he reached for the next stone, almost causing him to fall. That didn’t deter him, however, as he pushed himself upwards, moving from stone to stone. It didn’t take him long to reach the next landing. This one was much larger than the previous one, and Jeiku had plenty of space to lay himself out, his arms stretched above his head. He lied there for a while before standing up. The view was even more spectacular from this far up. He sat down, letting his feet hand off the edge.

He swung them back and forth for a bit, enjoying the view and catching his breath before deciding to head back down. He had climbed quite high, and it would take him some time to climb down. It was also more difficult; while less physically demanding, it was tougher to find good, solid footholds. He slowly made his way down the cliff, moving very cautiously, ensuring each foothold was strong enough, and jutted out enough for him to put his weight on. It took him some time to scale, and by the time he reached the bottom the sun was almost entirely behind the horizon.

It was time, Jeiku figured, to head back home. He turned towards the city and began walking. His whole body was aching, and he was certain he would only feel worse tomorrow. Nevertheless, Jeiku had completed another intensive regimen of strength training, which was difficult for him. He had never been a particularly strong person, although he always wanted to be. He smiled as he walked home, thinking about his progress all the way.

Jeiku breathed in deeply, trying to catch his breath. He bent over, and grasped his knees. His legs were burning; he had just run three miles without stopping, and he needed a breather. Jeiku collapsed on the ground, closing his eyes. He rubbed his hands over the grass. It was relatively soft; it had rained just two days ago. The grass had not been wet for some time, but it wasn’t so dry as to prick Jeiku’s skin. He enjoyed it. He listed to the birds flying around through the trees, chirping. After a short while, the sun began to burn his eyes, and he rolled over onto his belly, opening his eyes. He had caught his breath, and he pushed himself off the ground, rising to his feet.

Looking around, he recognized where he was. Jeiku had spent a good amount of time in the woods, and so he knew many of the areas. The large trees towered above him, shading him from much of the sun’s rays. Bushes lined the small path he had run on, which was clear of all other vegetation. It was a nice place to run, and a nice place to relax. But he wasn’t going to be doing much of either of those right then.

He turned around, and pushed off the ground, leaping nearly ten feet in the air, heading towards a nearby tree. He positioned his feet, and pushed off, sending himself upwards. He landed on a high branch, and the branch shook as he managed his balance. He took a deep breath; that was a bit more difficult than he had imagined; he must have been tired out from his run. That didn’t mean he wasn’t going to push further, though.

In one quick movement, Jeiku leapt forward, propelling himself into the air. He landed on another branch several meters away. After readjusting his stance, he pushed off again, flying through the brush to land on another branch. He pushed off again, and then once more, each time picking up speed. His legs ached, but the wind on his face felt good, cooling him off. He continued forward, leaping from branch to branch. He went faster and faster, until…

SPLASH! Jeiku swam to the top of the water. As he emerged, he shook his head, looking back at where he had come from. He had been focusing on his speed, and not notice that the trees in the direction he was running had ended due to the large lake in the center of the forest. Jeiku slowly swam to the side of the lake, hoisting himself out of the water. The water felt refreshing, but it certainly was not something Jeiku planned. He’d have to get back to training. Jeiku sat on the side of the lake, letting his feet rinse for a while longer as he caught his breath.

Standing up, he turned back to the forest; it was time to get going. He still had a lot of work to do today. He pushed of the ground and sent himself flying through the air again. He landed on a pretty low hanging branch before pushing off again, landing on a higher branch. He jumped again, on to the next branch, and then to the next one. He picked up speed, going faster and faster. The air felt cool, evaporating the water on his skin, preventing him from getting to hot.

As he picked up speed, he began to land on branches farther and farther apart. The goal was to expand the range he could jump, allowing him to push off faster and strengthen his leg muscles. He breathed out as he extended his leg for a long jump. Certainly, it was a long jump, close to 6 meters. He smiled as he soared through the air, but it soon the smile left his face. He dropped from the air too fast, and his feet dipped below the branch. Jeiku threw out his hands, and grabbed on to the branch. He swung off of it, landing on a lower branch.

”Phew…. That was close,” Jeiku muttered to himself. He took another deep breath. That was probably enough of that, he thought. Besides, if he continued on the branches now, his legs would be shaky for the rest of the workout; Jeiku knew himself, and he was too nervous to continue running through the trees. It was for that reason, he decided to end his workout with a run.

As he began his final, three mile run, his thoughts turned towards the book he was reading. It was called “Shinobi Equipment and Usage;” not a terribly exciting title. It was about as exciting as it sounded, especially since Jeiku had never really mastered any serious weaponry. Still, he always tried to focus on something else when running; it helped him not to think of the pain. He tried to remember all the different explosives a ninja could use. “Smoke bombs, explosive tags…” he said aloud. The speaking messed with his breathing however, so he stopped. He still had a lot of running to do before heading back to the village. He speed up, sprinting down the path.

Jeiku shook his head as he prepared for another run. He absolutely hated running, and most cardio training now that he thought about it. He was unable to remove the disgusted look on his face as he thought about running for another 6 hours. It made his stomach turn. But he had to do it, he reminded himself; he wasn’t naturally all that physically strong, so if he wanted to be effective, he’d have to be fast, faster than any of his opponents.

“Ugh,” Jeiku said audibly as he made his last preparations to begin. He sighed. “This is the only way…. This is the only way…” Jeiku reminded himself out loud again and again. He stretched his legs, leaning this way, and then that way. He even began to stretch his arms before stopping himself. He was procrastinating; he just had to begin the workout.

He turned to look forward, and leaned on his back foot. Then, all at once, he stepped forward, beginning with a slow jog. It was always nice to start a workout easy, Jeiku thought. Although, it could just as easily be considered procrastinating, Jeiku reminded himself. After joking for nearly half an hour, he decided to change gears. He turned a corner, and began sprinting deeper into the woods. Jeiku enjoyed running at full speed for a short time; the wind always felt good on his face. But after a while, it became his least favorite thing, as time dragged on and his energy ran low. Jeiku knew this, but reminded himself he had to keep going.

After several hours, he paused for a break. He sat on the ground, bending his knees so they rose vertically. He rested his arms on his knees as he tried to catch his breath. He was having more trouble doing so than usual and it took him some time to get his breathing under control. Jeiku’s lungs were hurting; each time he breathed in he felt a sharp pain. It continued for close to ten minutes before Jeiku reached a comfortable stage again, and he began planning his next exercise. He could just run through the trees, jumping from branch to branch like he usually would, but he decided it was time for something a bit different.

Jeiku turned to face a particularly tall tree as he positioned his legs. Suddenly, he rushed forward, sprinting at full speed towards the tree. As he reached it, he stuck out his feet. He quickly ran up the tree. His shoes clacked against the bark of the tree. Jeiku continued running until he was about 20 feet off the ground. He pushed off the tree, falling back to the ground, landing on his feet. He smiled; that was far more fun than running, and it was certainly effective. He was already breathing heavy again, and he took another few seconds to regroup before charging at the tree again. Once again he raced up the tree trunk, pushing off at about 20 feet, and landing on the ground. He did it again, not resting this time. He only reached about 15 feet when he began to wobble, and was forced to push off early. He landed on his feet, but dropped to his knees.

He breathed heavily for a few moments, before standing again. That last one wasn’t very good; he’d do better this time. Again, he ran up the side of the tree. This time he climber higher, however, reaching almost thirty feet in the air. As he reached that height, his right foot slipped, and he tumbled down to the ground. He stuck out his feet, pushing them against the tree trunk and sending him flying sideways. He rolled as he landed on the ground, minimizing the damage from the impact. That didn’t mean it didn’t hurt, and Jeiku clutched his hip as he stood. That was enough of that, Jeiku thought to himself.

Jeiku turned towards a pair of trees further away. It was time to return to his normal speed training, jumping from branch to branch. He leapt into the air, landing on the nearest branch, and immediately began his next exercise. He propelled himself forward with each branch he pushed off, increasing his speed again and again. He continued for nearly an hour before stopping again; this time taking a seat on a branch. It took some time for him to catch his breath again. His feet felt like they were on fire, and Jeiku let them swing back and forth in the breeze. He bent over, breathing heavily as he looked down at the ground. He did enjoy sitting on tree branches that high.

Jeiku pushed of the three branch with his arms and fell to the ground. Landing hurt his legs more than usual; they were very sore. And they would be feeling even worse tomorrow, Jeiku was certain. He turned around, and began walking home; he was less than a mile from Kumogakure, and he always enjoyed these walks through the forest.

Jeiku sighed. He shook his head as he thought about his workout; today, he’d be working on his speed. Jeiku had been one of the fastest in his class when he was in the academy, but he refused to train more on speed, and he fell to just about average. He hadn’t worked on his speed for a long time, and he knew it would be difficult.

Jeiku was walking through the woods towards his usual training spot, just outside the Village Hidden in the Clouds, as he thought about the best way to train his speed. He already had a plan, of course; he had brought his pouch and vest, empty of all items. The plan was to fill his pockets with rocks, and then train at full speed. For whatever reason, Jeiku had forgotten to pick up the pebbles on his way. He reminded himself, as he took a short detour to a pile of rocks he spotted out of the corner of his eye. It wasn’t long before his pockets were full of rocks, packed so tightly together that they didn’t shake when he moved.

Jeiku stretched as he reached the clearing. The clearing, about 20 feet wide in the center of the wooded area, was Jeiku’s normal training area. It was good for practicing jutsu, and every time Jeiku practiced there, the clearing was made just a bit bigger. Jeiku reached over to his right shoulder, which was a bit sore, and pulled it across his body. Completing his stretches, Jeiku shook his body around to get the feeling for the rocks, and to make sure they wouldn’t bother him. Once he reached a comfortable position, he decided to begin.

In one swift move, Jeiku pushed off of the ground, throwing himself towards a nearby tree. Jeiku turned and placed his feet along the trunk of the tree, stopping his momentum entirely. He turned away, pushing off again in the opposite direction. He slammed into another tree, only to push off once more. He flew through the air, landing softly on a nearby tree branch, 15 feet in the air. The branch was thick, and easily strong enough to hold Jeiku’s entire weight. Jeiku smirked as he spun around, preparing for the training to begin.

All at once, Jeiku pushed off the tree branch, heading away from the clearing. He shot through the air at a great speed, passing several trees. He landed on another branch, immediately pushing off of it, heading towards another. He continued throwing himself through the air, pushing past tree after tree. The entire motion was something very familiar to Jeiku, despite his lack of recent speed training. Due to his learning high style taijutsu, he had practiced moving through the air a lot when he was younger.

Jeiku enjoyed the motions; the wind blowing in his face felt good, even if it messed up his hair. Jumping from branch to branch, he also felt freer than he had in a long time. A large smile grew across his face as he pushed off once more. He was basically flying, he thought to himself. He pushed off again. Why didn’t he do this more? This was the best way to train. He pushed off again.

As long as he was training speed, and having fun, he figured he’d try to get fancy. He pushed off the next branch hard, and tilted upwards. He shot into the sky, rising above the leaves of the tree. As he reached the climax of his jump, he looked out at the horizon. Kumogakure was truly a beautiful nation. There were green trees extending all the way to the mountains, silhouetted against the horizon. Jeiku saw birds flying alongside him, and he smiled as he dropped back down to below the trees once more.

Jeiku liked the view, and, after gaining speed again, he pushed himself upwards again. He flew up once more, looking out over the horizon. This time he could see all the way to a lake, off in the distance. He knew there were plenty of lakes in the region, but he hadn’t visited one in some time. He already had plans to visit the lake as he dropped back below the branches. He landed on another thick branch, but the force was too great. The branch broke, and Jeiku dropped to the ground, landing on his butt.

Jeiku rubbed his ass as he stood, stretching his legs. He had gotten distracted; he needed to focus again. Jeiku adjusted his pockets and his pouch, making sure they were still structurally sound after his fall, as well as comfortable. He then took off, pushing hard off the ground and landing on a nearby branch without the assistance of nearby trees. He turned towards a clear route and prepared to leap forward; this time, he’d be running full speed. In a quick puff, Jeiku fired himself forward, faster than the time before.

He pushed off a branch, throwing him forward even faster. He felt the wind against him get stronger and stronger. He pushed off again, increasing his speed further. His pouch, filled with rocks, began to swing back and forth, knocking against his tailbone. But Jeiku didn’t stop to readjust. He pushed off again, trying to ignore the rocks bouncing around against his back.

He picked up even more speed as he began to sweat. Jeiku did not realized how much he was sweating, however, as the wind dried a lot of the sweat very quickly. When he finally stopped for a rest, he was sweating bullets. He plopped himself down on one of the branches, and, breathing heavily, he looked out over the horizon. The sun was just beginning to set; he had been running, or jumping rather, for hours. He wished he had brought something to drink; he would have to wait for a little while at least.

That was when Jeiku saw the lake again. If he ran there, he could get some more practice in as well as some water. Jeiku stood, stretching his aching legs before taking off towards the lake. He felt the rocks bumping against his back; they hurt more than before. He must have been developing some pretty serious bruises. He slid his hand back to try to stop his pouch from swinging around, but it felt awkward, and made it harder to push on forward. Eventually, he gave up, running as fast as he could and enduring the pain.

It was only a half hour to the lake, but Jeiku was already running low on energy. He decided to take a break, and took off his socks and shoes to dip his feet in the water. He let out a deep breath as he leaned back. He was still breathing heavily, but Jeiku was beginning to relax. His head was pounding; for whatever reason, the running had given him a headache. He supposed that was probably because he had not gone running like this for some time.

After a few minutes of relaxing, Jeiku figured it was time to return home. The last light of the day was shining, about o disappear behind the horizon. Jeiku turned back towards the village. He was feeling sticky and gross from the sweat. His feet still hurt, and he winced as he put on his socks and shoes. He unbuckled his pouch from his back and poured it upside down, watching as all the rocks fell to the ground. H returned his pouch to his waist, now empty. He quickly removed the rocks from his vest pockets as well before preparing to return home.

He took a deep breath, closing his eyes, and listening one last time to the nature around the lake. In a quick dash, Jeiku took off into the trees, heading towards the village and home.

Jeiku took a deep breath. His training the past few days had been pretty intense, and he had enjoyed it. However, he knew he was not going to enjoy todays training. Control training was always difficult for Jeiku. What was worse was that it was incredibly boring. It was difficult to strengthen his control without running out of stamina; he had to create a unique regimen to practice his control, and the practice was rarely enjoyable.

First, Jeiku would do his general control workout. Rather than travel to his normal clearing in the woods, Jeiku decided to practice on the mountain side today. The terrain would be far more effective for his purposes. The Chunin had travelled past his normal site, and come to a cliff; it was a vertical, 25 foot climb. That would be perfect for Jeiku’s first practice. He took several steps backwards before taking a wide stance. He stuck his left leg behind him, with his front leg just in front of him. He prepared, putting all his weight on his back leg.

Then, in a single movement, Jeiku pushed off with his back leg. He ran full speed towards the cliff, his hands flying behind him. He sped up as he approached the wall. When he was just a couple feet away, he stuck out his right leg, pushing upwards. He shifted the entirety of his momentum up, and began to climb vertically. He slowed down as he ran higher and higher up the wall. When Jeiku was about 20 feet off the ground, he stopped for just a moment, holding himself there as long as he could.

And then he held it. Looking out over the woods, he had to focus on keeping himself up on the Cliffside. He was high enough to look over most of the trees, although not so high as to be able to see the mountains in the distance clearly. Jeiku began to slide down the cliff slowly, and he stuck out his hand, releasing his focus and catalyzing his fall to the ground. He slid safely to the ground. Now out of breath, Jeiku decided to try again. He walked a dozen feet away from the wall, and prepared for the run again.

Just like before, he pushed off with his back foot, sprinting towards the wall. Again, beginning with his right foot, he began to climb, reaching his same position of about twenty feet high. There, he tried to stay again. He held there for a moment, and Jeiku was beginning to sweat, but he was too focused to wipe it away. In a few seconds he fell to the ground again, this time with less grace. He hit the ground hard, and lost his breath. He wheezed as he tried to catch his breath. After a few seconds, he calmed down, as air began to fill his lungs smoothly again. Laying there on the ground, he wiped the sweat from his face.

Standing up, he decided to try one more time. He returned to his starting position, and all at once rushed towards the cliff. Again his pushed himself up to his height of about 20 feet, and stood there. He looked out over the forest as he attempted to remain on the cliff side. He managed to stay on the cliff for several seconds before he began to lose his grip. Jeiku pushed off the cliff, shooting himself out towards the nearby forest. Grabbing a tree branch, he gracefully swung through the air, landing safely on the ground.

He was done with that workout; it was good to begin his control training, but it would be beneficial to practice his high control jutsu. He would start with the *Tesla Dome Technique. He slowly made the hand signs, breathing in deeply as he completed them. “Storm Release, Tesla Dome” Jeiku said out loud as he stuck his hands out. Several large drops of liquid lightning were released into the air, and hovered around Jeiku for just a moment before releasing storm energy. The storm energy created a dome, with a radius of seven feet, protecting Jeiku. The liquid lightning shimmered in the sunlight, and Jeiku enjoyed seeing the world through the sheet of storm energy. He held the jutsu, remaining in complete concentration for nearly a minute before releasing it. He shook his head positively, proud of himself for maintaining that level of control.

He decided to try again, and he quickly brought his hands together. After completing the hand seals, he placed his arms outwards. Again, drops of liquid lightning appeared, and they spread out, hovering in the air, surrounding Jeiku. Once again, the liquid lightning spread out, creating a sizeable dome around Jeiku. The dome remained for a time, and Jeiku once again enjoyed looking through the dome out at the world; everything seemed to shine. Jeiku held the jutsu again for about a minute. By the end, Jeiku was beginning to sweat; it took a lot of energy and attention to keep the shield up.

As the jutsu ended, Jeiku dropped his hands to his sides. He was breathing heavily now, and he decided to take a short break. He sat under a nearby tree, enjoying the shade. It was rarely very warm in Lightning Country, but the sun could certainly burn you, if you avoided the shade. After relaxing for a few minuts beneath the tree, he rose to his feet. Leaving the protection of the shade, Jeiku stepped forward, preparing to use his jutsu once more.

He rose his hands in front of him, and began the hand seals, slowly shifting his figures to make each shape. He finished slowly, and once more stuck out his arms. Storm drops of liquid lighting appeared once more, suspended in the air around Jeiku. In a swift move, the drops spread out to form a dome-like shield once again. Jeiku stood in the dome, his arms raised, attempting to maintain the shield. He counted his breaths as he held the shield, and slowly but surely, his rate of breathing began to rise. He could feel his heart pulsing, and his stomach began to turn, but he maintained the jutsu. He could feel a large drop of sweat begin to fall down his face, he tilted his head so as to wipe it on his shoulder. As he did, his arms began to shake. Jeiku dropped them, and the jutsu ended.

It was just then that Jeiku had an idea. He was running low on chakra, as this technique was a high ranked move for someone at his level. However, he wanted to test the limits of the jutsu. He quickly carried out the hand seals, and again the drops of liquid lightning formed a dome shaped shield surrounding him. He slowly dropped his hands to his sides while trying to maintain the jutsu. He watched carefully. After about ten seconds, his hands had reached his sides, but the shield remained. It had worked! Jeikue released the jutsu, and raised his arms in the air.

He was breathing heavy now, and he was feeling pretty tired. He turned around, and stretched his neck, moving it around in a circle, as he walked away. The walk back to the village would take a while, and it was beginning to get late. He happily headed towards Kumogakure, thinking about the food that would be waiting for him when he arrived home; some old ramen noodles. It was some of Jeiku’s favorite food, as it tasted fine and was quick to prepare. He rubbed his stomach as it made a loud noise. He scrunched up his face as he felt the acid affecting the sides of his stomach. Letting out an empty feeling burp, Jeiku paused for a moment. Shaking his head, he continued walking home. It had been a good workout.

Jeiku took a deep breath as he began to focus his chakra. Today was for a different kind of training. He had been working his physical attributes for a long time, and he had made some significant advancement in his speed and strength. But today was something different; he hadn’t learned a new jutsu in a long time. It would take a lot of focus and concentration, he reminded himself.

The jutsu in question, *Witch Slick Technique, was another storm jutsu. It was relatively simple; Jeiku had read a lot about it. Basically, it involved creating to orbs of storm energy that would land on the ground, creating puddles of liquid lightning. The puddles would act as land mines; if anyone stepped on one, their feet would be cut up intensely. It was a much lower rank jutsu than Jeiku was capable of using, so Jeiku assumed it wouldn’t take long. But he had practiced already for nearly three hours without successfully mastering it. For whatever reason, he couldn’t get his storm energy to take the right form.

He quickly went through the hand seals, beginning the jutsu again. “Storm Style, *Witch Slick Technique!” he said aloud. He shot both of his hands out, holding them there as he concentrated his chakra into his hands. Two orbs of storm energy appeared, and Jeiku worked hard to maintain them. They were small, only a few inches in diameter each. Then, all at once, Jeiku released both orbs, sending them flying to the ground. The orbs pulsed on the ground before disappearing, leaving nothing behind.

“Damnit!” Jeiku let out in anger. He wasn’t finished yet, however. He quickly made the hand seals once again, and stuck his arms out just like before. And again, just like before, two spheres of liquid lightning formed in Jeiku’s hands. Like before, he sent the orbs flying forwards, and each landed on the ground, creating two separate puddles, this time successfully. Jeiku smiled, raising his hands in the air in triumph! But he couldn’t be sure it was working, Jeiku reminded himself. He grabbed a leaf from a nearby tree and, walking over to one of the puddles, he dropped the leaf into the puddle. A spark of electricity appeared, and the leaf was cut into small pieces before sinking into the puddle. The jutsu worked.

Jeiku couldn’t stop smiling as he dispersed the jutsu. The puddles quickly disappeared, and Jeiku turned to head home.

After forming several hand seal the user of this technique creates two Storm orbs in either hand that are roughly one inch in diameter before they then throw them down onto the ground, causing two puddles of Storm that are roughly five inch long and one deep, each. The trick to these puddles is that they retain the liquid lightning properties; Flowing fiercely and when stepped on they will penetrate in the direction of incoming force, meaning that stepping into these harmless seeming puddles is like stepping on a kunai; It will penetrate most shoes or wooden clogs nicely, likely stabbing unwary foes in the feet. If the Water Walking technique is used over these puddles they will be ineffective. The slicks last 2 posts.

Jeiku took a deep breath. He had been in the woods outside Kumogakure for nearly four hours already, and he trained for five hours the day before. This new jutsu was difficult for Jeiku; after all, he had never learned anything like it. He thought it would be easy to learn; the [Chakra Burst] technique used only raw chakra, there was no need to change the chakra into any other element, like he had to do with storm. Still, he it certainly was a challenge for him to complete this jutsu. He had read about it thoroughly, and even seen someone else preform it.

He shook his head as he prepared to try again. He raised his fists up to his face, stepping back into a fighting position. He began to channel his chakra into his fists. He would do it this time; it was just like channeling his chakra around his weapons, a technique he had learned years ago. He began to send all the chakra he could to his hands, and they glowed blue. He smiled, and turned towards a nearby tree. It looked as though he had the technique done, but he had gotten this far before. The trick was to use it to increase his strength significantly. He had to test it.

He swung towards a nearby tree, slamming his fist into the side of its trunk. However before Jeiku could bring the attack to bear, the chakra disappeared from his hand, and he smashed his bare fist against the bark of the tree. Recoiling in pain, he grasped his hand, holding it tightly. He shook his head.

“Not again!” Jeiku sighed as he rubbed his hand. “This damn jutsu! It should be easier!” Jeiku stepped back as he prepared to try the jutsu once more. He focused as hard as he could, filling his hands with his chakra. Sweat began to drop down his back; he tried with great difficulty to ignore it. Once he collected enough chakra in his hand, he threw his hand forward towards the tree, trying to maintain focus. In a swift motion, Jeiku slammed his hand into the trunk of the tree. The chakra stayed with his hand this time, and the tree splintered, with pieces of wood flying everywhere. When the jutsu ended, the tree had a large whole in its side. Jeiku had done it. He smiled.

“YES!” he shouted. He wouldn’t have shouted, but he was relatively certain that no one was within earshot. “Now, let’s do this again…”

Jeiku smiled. He had been training a lot on his own, but this time, he had a friend. Akimoto was one of Jeiku’s old friends from the Academy. Still a Genin, Akimoto had never been the most talented of ninja. Jeiku knew that the poor guy was having trouble in the Chunin exams; besides not being the best ninja, he had also never had the luck necessary for someone like him to advance. It was a shame really; Jeiku agreed with him ideologically, and the two always seemed to get along well. It was simply a matter of skill and talent that Akimoto lacked. Luckily, he was often willing to help Jeiku whenever he needed practice. This time, Jeiku was going to need his help to learn a new genjutsu.

The two ninja stood roughly 15 feet away from each other, in a clearing in the woods surrounding the Village Hidden in the Clouds. Jeiku had a scroll open on the ground beside him detailing the genjutsu he was trying to learn. He had read the scroll two dozen times easily, and already put the hand seals into his memory. But he couldn’t practice genjutsu very well without a partner, which was why Akimoto was necessary. Jeiku didn’t like showing others his training area, but he figured at this moment, it was necessary.

“Alright you know what to do?” Jeiku asked his friend from across the clearing.

“Uh, yea,” Akimoto responded. “I stand here, and then you do the technique.”

“Yea,” Jeiku interrupted. “But you have to look at my hand signs.”

“Okay, okay, I got it.” As Akimoto finished his words, Jeiku nodded. He began the hand seals, doing them rather slowly to ensure that Akimoto was entrapped. After completing them, he waited for a moment. When his friend didn’t react, Jeiku spoke.

“Well, did you see anything?” Jeiku asked, tilting his head. He still hadn’t released his last hand seal.

“Nah,” Akimoto replied. “Must be a dud…” Jeiku shot his friend a look. It most certainly was not a dud, Jeiku thought.

“There’s not a problem with the jutsu, you just looked away! You have to watch me do the hand seals!” Jeiku angrily accused his friend.

“Fine, fine. Try it again.” Jeiku nodded at Akimoto. He made the hand seals again, this time even more slowly than before. He felt some of his chakra leave him as he made the last hand sign. He watched Akimoto carefully. For about a second, he had no response. But soon after, his eyes lit up with fear. This was only for a moment however, and his expression quickly melted into a smile. Akimoto nodded towards Jeiku.

“Did… did it work?” Jeiku asked as he began to smile. He already knew the answer. He watched as his friend looked away, truimphiantly, as if it had been Akimoto who had succeeded.

“Well, it definitely was creepy,” Akimoto responded. “Actually I can still see them.” It was only then that Jeiku realized he was still using his chakra, and he quickly stopped. “That’s better.” Jeiku walked up close to his friend.

“What did they look like?” Jeiku asked.

“Well, there were three of them, and they were dark, and oily looking… they came out of the trees behind you, and they began moving closer and closer to me. It could definitely unnerve someone who wasn’t aware it was genjutsu; maybe a ninja who is not as good as me!” Akimoto proclaimed. Jeiku rolled his eyes.

“Okay, let’s try it again!” Jeiku told his friend. He wanted to make sure he had this genjutsu down; after all, it was his first.

“Fine,” Akimoto responded. “But I get to try it after!”

Jeiku dug his nose deeper into the scroll he was reading. This jutsu, the *[Speedster] jutsu looked simple enough, Jeiku thought. He would just have to do a little practice. Jeiku dropped the scroll as he approached his usual training spot, placing it on the ground beside him. Walking to the center of his usual clearing, he performed the hand seals. He did them as quickly as he could without making mistakes; he had already used most of the hand seals in his other jutsu, so it wasn’t too difficult.

After he finished the hand seals, he focused on the chakra flow throughout his legs. He spent a large amount of time doing this, keeping his hands together in the final seal. He focused for so long that his legs began to tingle. That must be the jutsu working, Jeiku thought, and he prepared to move. He stepped forward slowly and carefully, only to find that his leg could no longer bear any weight at all. Jeiku tumbled to the ground. He caught himself with his hands, and pushed himself up. Rising to his feet, he prepared to try again.

Jeiku went through the hand seals, slower this time. As he completed the hand signs, he focused his chakra in his legs. This time, he did not wait so long, taking a step forward only a few seconds after. He felt stronger; his body’s weight seemed to have diminished significantly, as if gravity was, all of a sudden, weaker. Jeiku smiled. “Yes!” he proclaimed as he jumped into the air. He jumped higher than normal with ease, and he landed on a nearby tree branch.

“Let’s test this out,” he said out loud. He pushed off from the tree branch, moving from branch to branch with ease. He leapt, faster and faster moving through the trees, laughing as he did. This jutsu was a lot of fun, he thought. He continued, moving faster through the trees than he ever had before. But with one final jump, the jutsu ended. Jeiku, who had been aiming for a faraway branch, missed his target, and dropped to the ground. He landed on his feet, but his heart was pounding.

He smiled as he performed the hand seals once more. Again, he concentrated his chakra in his legs, and all at once, he took off, jumping through the trees again. This jutsu was so fun, Jeiku thought he might just run home. And so, turning towards Kumogakure, he headed back to the village.

Jeiku smiled. He and his friend, Akimoto were training once again, and Jeiku always enjoyed it. This was partly because Akimoto was such a terrible ninja, making Jeiku look great by comparison. In fact, Jeiku made everything look easier, including this new jutsu. Despite being the same age, the two were separated in rank, with Akimoto just being a genin. The two of them must have looked odd, or they would have were they anywhere with a lot of people. Rather, they were outside the village, in the middle of a nearby wooded area; Jeiku’s favorite area to train.

Jeiku stepped backwards as he prepared to try the jutsu again. Swiftly, Jeiku plucked one of his hairs not far from his right ear. He did not flinch; he had plucked so many already that that specific area on his head had already become numb. He studied the hair carefully as he placed it in the center of his palm. Then came the focus. Jeiku carefully threaded his chakra into his hair, closing his eyes as he did so. Once he was finished, he handed the hair to Akimoto.

“You know wat to do, right?” he asked his friend. They had already been practicing for hours, doing the same thing over and over, but Akimoto often got distracted, and forgot what he was doing. So, Jeiku decided he should make certain Akimoto understood. The genin was not happy about that.

“Yea, yea. I know what to do…” he said, almost barking the words. Akimoto placed the hair in his pocket carefully before jumping into the nearby brush. Jeiku watched his friend take off, and then closed his eyes, concentrating. He breathed in deeply through his nose, and let it out through his mouth. He focused on finding his own chakra; it wasn’t an easy task for a non-sensory type ninja. It took him a bit of time, but eventually he found it.

He turned right, towards the brush where Akimoto had escaped. Jeiku dashed forwards, running through the woods. He moved quickly, running nearly a quarter mile before stopping. Everything looked normal. He spun around; the technique was only accurate to about 100 yards; Akimoto had to be somewhere around there. But all he saw were trees. He analyzed his surroundings closely, until something caught his eye. Jeiku smiled.

“Hmm… I wonder why this tree has shoes,” Jeiku joked. In a puff, Akimoto appeared in place of the disfigured tree, a frown on his face. “Can’t you even do the transformation jutsu?” Jeiku asked.

“I caaaannn” Akimoto replied. “You were gone for a while! I’ve had to hold it for some time… I tell you, my tree didn’t have shoes at the start!” Jeiku laughed at his friends excuse.

“Don’t worry, Akimoto; we’ll work on your transformation jutsu next...”

Jeiku sighed as he raised his arms. Again, he had been training. In fact, Jeiku couldn’t remember the last time he wasn’t training; that was all he did it seemed, study and train. But no one could argue with the results. Jeiku stepped forward slightly, readjusting his stance. He brought his hands together slowly, beginning the hand seals. As the hand seals came to an end, Jeiku stuck out his hands. He began to collect his chakra, converting it to storm as usual. Two small orbs of liquid lightning began to form in the palms of his hands. As they grew, the one in his left hand popped. The force from the jutsu pushed Jeiku back, and he had to throw his left leg behind him to catch himself. As he regained his balance, he lost focus, and the other orb disintegrated in the same way, pushing Jeiku backwards, this time, into a tree. Jeiku fell to the ground.

As he pushed himself up, he thought about the scroll again; he reminded himself of the hand seals. The technique was complex, but no more so than many of Jeiku’s other jutsu. He stood up, shifting all of his weight back to his feet and shaking his head. Letting out a deep sigh, he returned to a position further away from the trees. Taking one more deep breath, he prepared himself or the jutsu again.

He quickly went through the hand seals, and stuck his arms out forward. He hadn’t realized he was sweating until just that moment, when the first drop cleared his eyebrow, and began to sting his eye. He shut his right eye, but kept up his concentration. His hands began to shake as he flooded them with chakra, and converted it to storm energy. Once again, two small orbs were created. They began very small, and quickly expanded. However, they expanded too quickly, and too far, and Jeiku began to panic. He through both spheres forwards, and they immediately popped into separate shards, showering Jeiku with liquid lightning. He cringed in pain as he fell on his ass.

Rising to his feet again, he decided it was time for a break. He rubbed the sweat from his eyes, and walked over a log just adjacent to the clearing. There he sat down, and reached over to the bag he had brought with him. Inside was a sandwich; it was small and cold. Jeiku hadn’t made it himself; he rarely made himself sandwiches. Still, he wished he did. The egg salad must have been old, as it tasted a little funky. He was too hungry to stop, however, and it didn’t take long for him to devour the tiny sandwich. Finishing even the crust, Jeiku rose to his feet. He brushed his hands against each other, sending the remaining crumbs falling to the ground. He walked back over to the center of the clearing, and took a deep breath.

He quickly banged out the hand seals once again, and reached his arms out. Just like before, he focused his chakra into his hands, changing the chakra into storm energy. They began small again, and this time, Jeiku was careful as he controlled their expansion. They reached about six inches in diameter before stopping, holding their size and shape. Jeiku smiled. He thought he had it. Now all he had to do was test it. He spun around, finding a tree the right distance to make a good target. Once he found it, he took a step forward, and sent one of the spheres flying towards the tree. The orb slammed into the tree, breaking apart and cutting into the tree. As the last of the liquid lightning dissipated, Jeiku could see an oddly shaped hole in the center of the tree. Jeiku raised his eyebrows as his smile spread further across his face.

He stepped forward, and brought his other arm forward. The other sphere flew forwards, towards the same tree. It smashed into the tree in the same spot as the last one. Just like the last one, it pierced the tree. However, this time, the orb broke through the tree, revealing a misshapen hole directly through the tree. Jeiku took a deep breath, and then smiled again. He had done it! The *Strobe Rave Technique was not an easy jutsu, but it would make a fine addition to Jeiku’s current jutsu. But, in order to use it, he’d need to practice more.

“Again,” Jeiku muttered out loud to himself as he returned to his starting position. He wiped the sweat off his brow, and began the hand seals again.

Jeiku prepared himself for training once again. Of course, he had his friend Akimoto here to help, but the ninja was hardly a help. At that point, he was dicking around, swinging through the forest. No wonder the man was still a genin. Jeiku would never say such a thing, but Akimoto definitely could use to take his training more seriously. After all, Akimoto and Jeiku had been training for weeks, and it really seemed as though only Jeiku was learning new jutsu.

“Get over here, Aki! Jeiku shouted to his friend, who refused to drop down from a nearby tree. “Come on!”

“Alright, relax!” Akimoto responded calmly, making Jeiku even angrier. It was people like Akimoto using phrases like “relax” that irritated Jeiku more than anything. However, he took a deep breath, and turned back to a nearby scroll. He pulled it open, and looked it over one last time; he had been studying the scroll for nearly a week already, and practicing the hand signs, but he couldn’t be certain that he had mastered the jutsu without practicing it on someone. Luckily for Jeiku, he would be able to get some revenge on his friend.

“Come here and watch… I need you to pay attention,” Jeiku called out to his friend, who was already en route.

“Okay, okay. What jutsu is this again?” Akimoto asked. “Some type of genjutsu?” Jeiku looked both ways, pretending to look nervous.

“Uh, yea, something like the last time,” Jeiku lied. He had read and heard about this jutsu before, and the victim was never pleased; but Akimoto totally deserved it. Jeiku couldn’t help but smile, and let out a quiet chuckle. He stepped forwards into his position and took a deep breath. “Here we go!” Jeiku slowly preformed the hand signs, releasing only a drop of chakra. He looked over at Akimoto, who was watching carefully, a bored look on his face. The two of them sat there for a few seconds before Jeiku spoke. “Did you… feel anything?”

“Nope! Not a thing,” Akimoto proclaimed happily. It must have made him happy to see Jeiku failing for once.

“Well,” Jeiku responded. “Let’s try it again!”

“No way! I’m not staying here all day!” Akimoto answered angrily.

“Look; remember last week when I spent three hours with you working on your transformations? And you can’t even give me twenty minutes?!”

“Fine, fine!” Akimoto conceded, raising his hands. “I’ll sit here and watch.” Jeiku began to worry about this jutsu; after all, it would make him vomit, hopefully. After that, it was unlikely that Akimoto would ever agree to help him out again. Nevertheless, Jeiku decided to continue.

He slowly made each hand seal, trying to be sure that he was doing the technique correctly. As he finished, he pushed a lot of chakra out; much more than during his previous try. For a moment, nothing happened, and Jeiku was worried that the jutsu hadn’t worked again. However, he looked over at Akimoto and knew that the jutsu had worked. His friend’s face had changed color; he looked much paler than usual. He tried to cover his nose, but it obviously was not easing whatever the problem was. Jeiku smiled. The genjutsu title Smell of the Deceased would make the victim smell rotting flesh to the point of vomiting even. Supposedly, not everyone would vomit, but Jeiku hoped Akimoto would be one of the vomiters.

As if to be right on queue, Akimoto turned around, fell on his hands and knees, and hurled right on the ground. Jeiku couldn’t hold back the laughter any more, and he broke out, laughing loudly at his friend who continued to suffer under the genjutsu. Jeiku had never been happier.

Jeiku deflated his lungs, pushing out a loud puff of air. He tried to wipe the sweat off his forehead, unsuccessfully; he seemed to be gushing with sweat already, and Jeiku was not surprised why. He had already used more than half of his chakra training for just this one jutsu. It shouldn’t be so hard, Jeiku thought. After all, he had already mastered many storm jutsu; ration lightning style shouldn’t be a problem. The Chunin furrowed his brow as he prepared to try again.

The sun was blocked out by clouds that day. The clouds covered the entire sky, as far as Jeiku could see. Jeiku hoped it would rain; he always loved the rain, and since he was drenched in sweat already, it didn’t much matter that he would be soaked. He had no such luck however, as the clouds seemed just to hand there, getting brighter with each passing hour. If he wasn’t so focused on his training, Jeiku would have been bummed.

Jeiku brought his hands together, quickly running through the hand signs. As he completed the last one, lightning began to form in front of him. The electric energy formed a small sphere, letting off sparks before beginning to expand rapidly. The lightning reached about Jeiku’s size, and Jeiku smiled. He had almost done it; now he just needed to make the lightning look like him. He began to focus more of his chakra, but as he did, the clone popped, exploding into a burst of lightning energy. The small burst pushed Jeiku back, and he fell to the ground.

Jeiku, now breathing heavily, lay on the ground for a moment before pulling himself to his feet and wiping off his pants. He shook his head before returning to his stance. The Chunin thought for a few seconds before deciding to try again. This time, he wouldn’t worry about collecting enough lightning as he would making the clone look like a clone. He quickly banged out the hand seals, and once again, lightning appeared in front of him. The lightning grew much more quickly this time, and it reached Jeiku’s size in just a couple seconds. As the Jeiku flooded the lightning form with chakra, its appearance began to change; its lightning body began to fade, skin and clothes appeared.

Jeiku smiled as he released his hands. He had done it; there was a clone just beside him, looking exactly like him, made of lightning. He brought his hand forward, commanding the clone to attack a nearby tree. The clone stumbled forward before slowly moving towards the tree. As it hit the tree, the clone exploded into a burst of lightning energy. In a sigh of relief, Jeiku relaxed the tension in his back. Now that he knew he could do it, he just needed to perfect it.

”Once more,” Jeiku said out loud to himself, stepping back into his stance.

Jeiku stepped forward into the center of the clearing. It was his sort of day; dark and drizzly. The sky was covered with dark clouds. It was raining so much as it was spraying, but Jeiku found it acceptable; sure he preferred pouring rain, but that would make it harder to train. As a drop landed right on Jeiku’s head, he remembered something. He grabbed the book he had taken with him, and placed it in his bag. If it got wet, the book could be ruined.

The jutsu Jeiku was practicing today had already been all but learned. He had already studied the technique back home, memorizing the hand seals, and practicing them. Now, it was time to put the jutsu into practice. He took his normal stance, and went through the hand seals as quickly as he could. As he finished, he focused his chakra in his hands, converting it to lightning. His hands began to glow with electric sparks. However, before the jutsu was complete, another drop of water landed in the center of Jeiku’s forehead. He lost his concentration, and the energy in his hands dissipated.

Jeiku shook his head, and quickly took his stance again. He pushed through the hand seals at an even greater speed than before, and again he began to concentrate his chakra in his hands, converting it to lightning. His hands glowed blue with lightning as he finished the jutsu. Smiling, he turned towards a tree, and slowly walked over to it. He pulled his arm back, hands still glowing blue. Quickly, he brought it forward, slamming his fist into the tree. As Jeiku’s hand hit the tree, it made a cracking sound. The lightning dissipated through the tree, but Jeiku recoiled, placing the hand he had just attacked with between his legs, clenching it tightly.

”Ah!” Jeiku cried, breathing out loudly. While the jutsu may shock the opponent, it does not protect the user’s hands from any damage. Jeiku dropped to his knees, placing his other hand on the ground, ending the jutsu. He then used that hand to hold his other one tightly. There was a large cut across his knuckles, and his wrist hurt sharply. Jeiku decided it was time to head back home. He needed to fix up his hand, and after all, it could start pouting at any minute. He walked over to his bag, slung it around his back, and headed back towards the village.

Jeiku leaned back against a tree as he slid to the ground. He was breathing heavily. This new jutsu shouldn’t be as challenging as it was; he had already mastered the lightning change in chakra nature and several lightning style jutsu, not to mention his great knowledge of Raiton through his Storm Jutsu. It wasn’t the lightning part of this jutsu that was troubling, however. He needed to get his chakra to travel underground yards away before rising towards the sky in a burst of lightning. And the technique called for him to do all of this with just a stomp on the ground.

Jeiku rose to his feet and sighed. He took several steps forward, positioning himself in the center of the clearing. He brought his hands together, and preformed the hand seals. Once completed, he raised his right leg, concentrating chakra in his right foot. He brought his foot down hard, releasing the chakra. It quickly moved through the ground, and Jeiku could feel it moving. He controlled it, and in one swift motion he had one ray of lightning rise just 5 feet in front of him. And then another rose 9 feet away, and another 15 feet forward, and slightly to the left. Two more rays of lightning rose up three feet into the air.

Jeiku furrowed his brow. He had the general gist of the jutsu down; now he just needed to work on controlling it better. He went through the hand signs again. Stomping on the ground again, this time he controlled all five of the rays of lightning to rise just two yards in front of him. Jeiku smiled. That technique would be useful, Jeiku thought. He dropped to the ground on his butt, grabbing his knees in his arms and bringing them to his chest. After relaxing for a minute, Jeiku rose back to his feed, and prepared to do the jutsu once more.

He quickly went through the hand signs, and stomped on the ground, forcing his chakra down. He watched carefully as each ray of lightning rose in a row, getting further and further away. They travelled a full ten yards from Jeiku, with the last one disappearing behind a tree. Each one, besides the one that was unseen in the forest, had reached a full three feet. Jeiku smiled as he realized he had mastered the technique. He spun around, heading back towards Kumogakure. He stretched his neck as he walked, and it made a crackling sound. He took a deep breath as he prepared for his return home.

*[Lightning Element • Ground Spike Technique]
D-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing a string of hand seals and stomping on the ground, the user emits five bolts of lightning in a line. Each bolt is two yards apart from the one before it (giving the jutsu a total range of ten yards from the user), rising 3 feet into the air from the ground in succession, starting from the farthest one with a speed equal to the user's control with a maximum of six. These bolts are pure energy; they aren’t solid so they aren’t effective in stopping objects. The shock created by the jutsu, however, causes the targets body to jerk and sends a mild pain equivalent to getting stabbed in the hand throughout the body for a brief second. This technique isn’t very devastating, but it’s useful in stopping charging enemies.

Jeiku smiled. He had been working a lot on mastering his Raiton Jutsu in the past month or so, and he had been forced to work hard on some lower level, and thus boring techniques. But today was not one of those times. Finally, Jeiku had put in enough effort to lay the groundwork for some more complex lightning style techniques, and Jeiku had been looking forward to learning this particular technique for some time.

The *[Lightning Style Rifle Technique] was a technique that allowed the user to fire a bolt of lightning at a target at great speed, and with strong force. Furthermore, Jeiku had read that it could be fired from a weapon, which was the very reason he had brought his trident with him today. He couldn’t help but wear a long smile from ear to ear as he walked into the clearing to begin his practice.

He took his normal stance, with his feet about shoulder width apart and knees belt slightly. He brought his hands together, and, looking at the scroll he kept nearby, he started the hand seals. He slowly went from the first to the last, taking a deep breath as he finished the last hand seal. He threw one of his hands out and focused his chakra there, converting it to lightning. His hands glowed blue with lightning energy, sparks flying in many directions. Jeiku pushed more chakra into his hand, and the sparks began to grow, shooting all around him. After he did so, however, he did not know what to do next, and eventually let the jutsu dissipate.

Jeiku kneeled down and picked up the scroll at his feet, studying it intensely. After a few minutes of reading, Jeiku placed the scroll down at his feet. He took his stance again, now confident he would be able to succeed. He went through the hand seals, this time more quickly. He messed up, however, and had to begin again. After completing the hand seals correctly, Jeiku again reached out his arm. He flooded his hand with chakra, and again he changed it into lightning. Sparks from his hand grew large once more, but only for a moment as Jeiku sent his chakra fling forwards at a great speed all at once. As he did so, a bolt of lightning rushed outwards, flying out of sight as it disappeared into the woods.

Jeiku sighed. He was so concentrated on learning the jutsu that he had forgotten to pick a target to fire at. Jeiku searched for just a moment before picking out a tree about four minutes away. He went through the hand seals once more, this time without mistakes. He reached out his arm, flooding his hand with chakra and converting it to lightning energy. He took aim at the tree, and pushed the chakra in his hand forward all at once, just like before. The bolt of lightning fired forward, zooming at a great speed. It slammed into the tree, causing the entire thing to shake, but not to break. As the jutsu ended Jeiku walked into the forest to analyze the tree. There was a relatively large crater in the side of the tree from the force of the impact. But it was obvious that the jutsu had little piercing power. Jeiku tilted his head as he finished analyzing the impact. It was fine that the jutsu couldn’t really pierce anything; Jeiku already had plenty of jutsu with a strong ability to pierce an enemy.

Jeiku decided it was time to try the jutsu with his trident. He walked back into the clearing, and then over to a corner where his trident sat, laying against a tree. Jeiku picked up his weapon, and with it he returned to the center of the clearing. Realizing he needed both hands to make the hand seals, he smashed his trident head-first into the ground deep enough so it could stand on its own. He then took a step back, and began the hand seals. This time, he was able to complete them faster, and without incident. With the hand seals complete, the Kumogakure Chunin reached out his arm, and once again flooded his hand with chakra, converted into lightning. Once sparks began to emerge from his hand, Jeiku wasted no time in reaching for his weapon. He lifted the trident with both hands, placing his right hand, glowing with lightning energy, in the front. He pointed his trident towards a nearby tree, aiming carefully. All at once, he channeled his chakra through his trident, sending out of the longest prong, the one in the center of the weapon. A bolt of lightning emerged, and rushed forwards, slamming into the tree.

As the jutsu ended, Jeiku smiled. He was able to carry out the jutsu now, but he wasn’t ready to stop. He wanted to practice more, and so he continued, practicing until late in the evening, when he decided to return home.

The lightning bolt itself will only cause minor damage, but due to the speed of the attack the impact is more than enough to knock the air out of someone or send them backwards about five meters as if they had just been rammed into. The opponent can resist being knocked backwards if they have a strength stat that is at least equal to the user's control stat. The speed of this bolt is equal to the user's control stat with a max of 8.

Jeiku stretched as he stood. He had been working towards mastering a new lightning style jutsu all day, and he had just awoken from a short nap. How long had he been out? Jeiku looked up at the sky. He couldn’t have been asleep for more than a couple hours; the sun was still relatively high in the sky. He still had plenty of time to work on this jutsu.

The jutsu he was trying to complete was not an easy one. The Thunder Sword Technique involved Jeiku releasing chakra through one of his hands, like always, and converting it to lighting. Niether of these were, themselves, an issue, as Jeiku had done both many times before. However, the trick to the technique was to get it to reach five feet in length, and then hold it for as long as he could. The jutsu wouldn’t act very effectively as a sword in many ways, but it would be able to strike down an opponent given the right circumstances.

Jeiku brushed himself off as he returned to the center of the clearing. He truly did enjoy this place, and it was covered with marks he had made over the past few months. There were trees with large holes in them, boulders with large cracks, and about several patches of grass that had been destroyed by Jeiku’s jutsu. And every time Jeiku changed the landscape, it felt more like his own. Now, it was one of the places he felt most comfortable.

As Jeiku finished stretching, he began the hand seals. He had mastered the hand seals already from his practice that morning, and he had reached a level of comfort with them that allowed him to zoom through them in less than a few seconds. As he finished, he extended his arm, sending chakra to his hand, and converting it to lightning. In a quick blue flash of blue sparks, a bolt of lightning emerged from Jeiku’s hands, extending nearly fifteen feet and grazing the ground before disappearing almost instantly. Jeiku shook his hand as he analyzed what had happened. He needed to maintain the lightning nature, but change the chakra form. He looked over at where the attack had grazed the ground; a light imprint of the slash had destroyed the grass that had been there. It was now just another thing that made his training ground his.

He spun around, looking back at his nap area; he had left his backpack, which he had been using as a pillow, nestled up against the side of a tree. He felt as if it was calling to him, and Jeiku closed his eyes just for a moment. Why was he so tired? Maybe he was overworking himself. Or maybe it was because he took a nap in the middle of the day. He couldn’t know for sure; all he knew was that he would be going to bed early that night.

He turned back towards the clearing, and prepared to try the Thunder Blade jutsu again. He went through the hand seals quickly, and extended his arm just like before. Again, blue sparks shot off as Jeiku completed the jutsu. This time, the lightning stopped at five feet, and remained in the air. Jeiku smied, and began counting. Just how long could he hold the jutsu? As he reached thirty, he released the jutsu. Only thirty seconds? He had to do better.

Jeiku went through the hand seals again, and fired the thunder blade out from his hand. Again, in a blue flash of lightning, the blade appeared, stopping at five feet. Jeiku held the jutsu for a minute before turning towards a nearby tree. It had already had a large crater in its side from a previous training by Jeiku. He brought the blade forward, smashing it directly into the crater. The blade created sparks before slowing vanishing. Jeiku quickly approached the tree to see the damage. Inside the crater was another, deep cut. It hadn’t quite made it through the entire tree, but more than halfway. The jutsu, Jeiku concluded, was only capable of shallow strikes, most likely not deadly blows. But if he hit a weak spot like his opponent’s neck, that might do it.

Jeiku walked over to his backpack and picked it up. It was time for him to return home; Jeiku was very tired. He began walking towards the village, looking back at his little clearing one more time before heading home. The sun was still up pretty high, which was good; it would mean Jeiku would be able to buy some food on the way back, rather than return late at night like he often did, after most of the stores were closed. He smiled and rubbed his stomach at the thought of food.

Jeiku happily swung his arms as he headed towards his normal training spot. It was another dark day, with clouds blocking out the sun. This made Jeiku even happier; he loved rainy days, and he didn’t expect to be training for all too long today. Even if he would be there for a long time, his friend Akimoto was meeting him there; it was always important to have someone to work with when teaching yourself genjutsu after all.

As he approached the clearing in the forest, he could see his friend waiting there for him. Jeiku approached quietly, thinking about possibly scaring him, but the Genin apparently caught a glimpse of his friend, and Jeiku had to give in.

“Hey Aki!” Jeiku shouted to his friend. As he approached, he spoke more quietly. “How’s it going?”

“Eh,” Akimoto replied. “One of my friends has got me practicing Genjutsu with him, so not the best,” he joked. As he said this, the two of the extended their arms and grabbed each other’s hands, clasping tightly for a moment before releasing.

“Well, let’s get started,” Jeiku said as he took a few steps away from his friend. He turned back to look at Akimoto, who had an odd look on his face.

“Really? We have to do more genjutsu?” The man sounded like a child, but Jeiku understood why. The last time Jeiku had used a genjutsu technique on Akimoto, the man had vomited. If Jeiku was in his place, he wouldn’t have accepted to help at all!

“Don’t worry,” Jeiku reassured him. “This isn’t like the last jutsu; you will be fine, not more throwing-up.” Jeiku shot his friend a look, but Akimoto’s expression did not change.

“Fine, fine,” the Genin replied. “Let’s get this over with. What do I have to do?”

“Just stand there and watch me closely,” Jeiku replied. He took a few more steps further away from Akimoto before beginning to weave the hand seals. Jeiku had memorized the hand seals the night before, but he went through them slowly; he didn’t have as much practice with them as he would have liked. Once he finished, he made sure his friend was watching before kneeling down low.

Akimoto watched closely as Jeiku kneeled down to the ground. As he watched Jeiku do so, Jeiku’s feet began to sink into the ground. His feet quickly became out of view, and then his legs. “This must be the jutsu,” Akimoto thought to himself as the rest of Jeiku’s body disappeared from sight.

Jeiku watched his friend’s expression closely; it was an easy way to determine whether his jutsu had worked. As Akimoto’s face twitched slightly, Jeiku began to move. He walked over to a nearby tree hiding behind it. There he waited. Once the jutsu was over, he heard his friend’s voice.

“So, Jeiku, where are you now?” Jeiku stepped outwards, turning around towards Akimoto. He began to walk towards his friend as he spoke.

“Over here!” Jeiku smiled as his friend’s gaze turned on him. He opened his mouth as if to speak, but said nothing, waiting for his friend’s further reaction.

“That jutsu is really something. So you can move while I can’t see you, or did…”

“Did I actually sink into the ground?” Jeiku finished his friend’s sentence. Sometimes Akimoto could be really dense. “No I didn’t sink into the ground,” Jeiku chuckled. “I can move, you just couldn’t see it. The Chunin rolled his eyes before stepping back into his stance. “Do you mind if I try it again?” Jeiku asked.

“I guess if you want,” Akimoto responded. “Go ahead.”

Jeiku breathed in deeply. He had been practicing since before the sun rose that morning, and he was seriously beginning to tire. All he had had to eat that day was a single, several day old pastry that he had saved from a box he bought a while back, and his stomach was rumbling. He ignored it, however. He had to finish this technique first, and then he would break for lunch. The technique itself was not entirely unique; Jeiku simply had to channel electric chakra into his weapon, collect it in the front, and then strike, sending the attack forward through the air. It wouldn’t be that much longer, he had already mastered channeling his chakra through his weapon, as well as converting that chakra into lightning. He just had to master sending the jutsu out.

Jeiku pulled his trident up, bringing the front of it off the ground. He held it under his right arm as he used his left hand to complete the one handed seals. These were the first of their kind for Jeiku, and he had had a lot of trouble mastering them earlier this morning. But now, he was able to weave them almost as quickly as he could weave normal, two-handed seals. Once he completed them, he began to funnel chakra into his trident, and collect it at the end. He then converted it into lightning, and the prongs of the trident began to glow with electric energy. Successfully completing that much, Jeiku grasped the trident with both hands, and stepping backwards to assume a different stance. In one swift motion, he swung his trident across his body, releasing his chakra out of the front end of the trident at the same time.

A slash-like blast of lightning energy emerged, rushing forwards. It cracked with electric sparks as the blast slammed into a nearby tree, kicking up smoke. When the smoke cleared, a large indent remained in the tree. Jeiku smiled. He had mastered the jutsu before lunch; now he could go back and eat happily. As he walked away, he thought about learning his jutsu. He had come a long way with his lightning style. Perhaps tomorrow, he would try learning a more complex jutsu; he had been reading scrolls about different lightning jutsus for some time now, and so he had a good understanding of them.

As he thought, his stomach growled. His thoughts turned to some hot ramen, and all the way back to the village, they never changed back.

Jeiku reached towards the sky, stretching as he prepared to begin his training. Today would be particularly difficult for him; he brought a scroll with him to make sure he had all the information he needed. He bent over, picking it up from the ground beside his bag to take one final look. The hand seals would be easy enough, but Jeiku had never done anything like the technique itself. It was for this reason he focused intensely on the control of chakra he would need to accomplish. After a few minutes studying the scroll, he placed it back on the ground, returning it to its position beside his backpack.

Jeiku slowly walked to the center of the clearing. His normal training area itself was broken and disheveled, scarred by Jeiku’s many jutsu trainings over the past few months. The ground was littered with cuts and indents, and the result was many different patches in the clearing where grass had ceased to grow. The surrounding trees bore similar marks; large craters in their sides, or long cuts across the bark. Some trees had wholes right through them, and others had actually collapsed from Jeiku’s practice.

Jeiku stepped into position in the rough center of the clearing. Normally, it wouldn’t matter so much where exactly he stood, but for this jutsu he needed as much space as he could get. The jutsu, known as the Lightning Style Whip Technique, would require Jeiku to manipulate his chakra into a whip at the same time as converting his chakra to lightning energy. The whip would allow Jeiku to have a lot of control over a relatively long rang lightning attack that he could use again and again. The whip would have staying power, if he was able to use the technique correctly. As a B-Rank jutsu, however, Jeiku would have to do a lot of work to master it.

So he might as well being. He lowered himself into his stance, with his knees bent, and began weaving the hand seals. As he completed, he focused his chakra in his right hand, extending his arm out wards. He reminded himself that at the same time, he needed his chakra to be converted to lightning, and he quickly made the adjustment. At once, however, he hand popped with lightning energy, sending sparks out all around him. One of the sparks caught Jeiku in the chest, shocking him, and he ended the jutsu. This would not be easy.

Jeiku continued practicing for hours, working through lunch time. After about five hours of training, however, he decided to take a break and eat something. He was feeling a bit drained, and he couldn’t keep going if he wanted to successfully master the jutsu. He sat beneath a tree, like he did always to shield himself from the sun. Although the sun was not shining so brightly that day, Jeiku knew that he could still get burned by the sun, as he had very pale skin.

After his late lunch, Jeiku returned to the center of the clearing. He had recovered pretty well from the morning’s exercise, and he prepared himself to continue his training. He took his stance and went through the hand seals again. He stuck out his arm, collecting chakra and changing it into lightning. He was able to successfully do so this time, and his hand glowed blue with lightning energy. It was when he tried to extend the lighting that he had problems. The lightning jutsu in his hand somehow formed a sphere, and the sphere itself began to expand until it popped, sending Jeiku flying backwards and ending the jutsu.

“Damn!” Jeiku shouted out loud. “So close!” Jeiku sighed as he stood up. His knees shook, but only for a moment. Apparently, this jutsu was taking more out of him than he thought. But he had to push onwards. He weaved the hand seals again, forcing his chaka into his hand as he converted it to lightning. Once more, he reached that point successfully, before trying to extend the jutsu into a whip form. However, just like before, the jutsu began to expand. It expanded with force, and the sparks sent Jeiku falling backwards again. The lightning dissipated with Jeiku on the ground once again.

Jeiku shook his head as he laid on the ground. This jutsu was more difficult than any he had learned in a while. He thought about giving up as he lay there. But he chose to remove these thoughts from his head, forcing himself to stand once more. He walked over to his bag and picked up the scroll that sat beside it. He looked it over again carefully, looking for any hint or clue that might help him with the jutsu. Finding nothing particularly helpful, he returned to the center of the clearing.

He weaved the hand seals rather quickly. Once completed, he extending his arm, this time less far than usual. Jeiku focused his chakra like before changing it to lighting energy in his hand. Once completed, he tried to extend the jutsu once again. This time, the lightning extended forward, reaching a length of about five meters. The lightning began rigid, but the far end quickly fell to the ground, limp. Jeiku smiled as he lifted his arm. The lightning whip was raised as well, with the far end following Jeiku’s side as a normal whip would. He brought the whip down on the ground, and it sliced into it, leaving a sparking cut in the ground. Jeiku then turned towards a tree. He swung the lightning whip at the tree, smacking the end into it and leaving a large cut. Jeiku pulled the whip away, leaving the tree crackling with lightning energy.

Jeiku was filled with joy as he ended the jutsu. The lightning whip was a difficult jutsu, and he had managed to master it in what was, quite frankly, very little time. Well, he had completed the jutsu once, at least. He would need to practice a few more times before being certain that he had mastered the jutsu. After taking a short breather, he returned to his position. He pushed through the hand seals quickly, and extended his arm. He collected chakra like before, converting it into lightning energy, and extending it into the shape of a whip.

“Here we go,” Jeiku thought to himself as he prepared to practice again.

Jeiku sat under a tree, hidden from the rain. Generally, he enjoyed rainy days, but the rain was beginning to come down really hard, and Jeiku wanted to avoid the downpour as much as he could. He had waited for some thirty minutes already, but the rain showed no sign of letting up. His little clearing in the woods was soaked, with the dirt on the ground becoming slippery mud; it was not the best terrain for training. Still, Jeiku had traveled all the way out here on one of his days off, so he was going to train.

Jeiku rose to his feet. He had already been soaked by the rain from before, so he might as well get back to work. Jeiku grabbed his trident, which had been laying on the ground at his side, and he stepped out of the cover of the trees, into the clearing. The rain fell on his face, and felt cool; unfortunately, the day was not so warm that this was relieving. He covered his face with his left hand for just a moment before grabbing his glasses. Removing them from his face, he lightly tossed them into his bag, which remained beneath the trees.

Now in the clearing, Jeiku looked for a good place to work. He needed to find an area of the ground that wasn’t already covered with mud. He picked a nice place in the far corner of the clearing, next to a nearby tree that had long since died due to Jeiku’s practice of jutsu on it. The rain continued to fall, and Jeiku could feel the water starting to drip down from his shirt onto his lower body. He tried to ignore it as he gripped his trident with both hands.

Holding his trident close to the center, Jeiku swung forwards at the tree with the front end of his trident, digging the sharp prongs into the bark. Successfully completing that, he pushed heavily on the opposite end of the trident. This yanked the sharp end out of the bark. At the same time, he swung with the back end of his trident. This blunt side of the weapon slammed into the slide of the tree, bouncing off after the impact.

Jeiku took a deep breath. He would need to be able to do this much faster to use the move in actual combat. He tried again, swing the front end of his trident forward like before, smashing the head of the trident into the tree. Immediately after he did so, he put his weight into the other side, pulling the blunt side around and hitting it into the tree. Jeiku sighed. “Again,” he thought to himself as he took his stance once more.

As he continued his training, the rain began to let up. This mattered little to Jeiku; besides being already soaked, he had become so engrossed in his training that he didn’t even notice the dwindling downpour. He continued swinging his trident back and forth for hours. After about three hours of work, his clothes had dried significantly, but his arms were burning. Figuring he had practiced the move enough, he decided to return to the village.

Jeiku slowly moved his neck around in a circle, stretching it out. He was preparing for another day of training with his trident; something he had begun to enjoy. While he had spent a lot of time training with his trident when he was younger and head developed a general competency with the weapon, he had been spending most of his time honing his other skills. His recent sparring with his friends, however, had proved his taijutsu to be inadequate. His ninjutsu was exceptional, and he had done good work with his Genjutsu, but Taijutsu remained below average.

Jeiku raised his trident, catching the back side of the weapon with his right hand. He walked up to a nearby tree and bent his knees, taking a low stance. He brought the back end of his trident back, preparing for a swing. All at once, he lunged forward, slamming the back end of his trident into the side of the tree. Nothing happened, so he tried it again, this time harder. As he did, a branch fell from the top of the tree. Jeiku stepped back and raised the trident. He slid his left hand down as he slide his right hand up. Leaving the center of the trident empty, he rose it above his head, blocking the falling debris.

“Sorry I’m late,” Jeiku heard a voice from behind him. He turned to see Akimoto standing several feet away in the clearing.

“Finally,” Jeiku replied. “What took you so long? I had to get started without you!” Jeiku said as he stared down his friend. “Well, better late than never I guess, let’s start.” Jeiku raised his trident, gripping it with both hands. He nodded at his friend, who raised two kunai, one in each hand. Akimoto rushed forward raising his weapons and bringing them down towards Jeiku.

Jeiku slid his hands apart, just like before, and raised it to block his friend’s attack. Akimoto’s strike landed on the grip of Jeiku’s trident. The two ninja held each other there for a moment, each struggling to overcome the other’s strength. Then, Jeiku stepped sideways, pushing on the back end of his weapon. Akimoto fell forward, and Jeiku smacked his friend with the far end of his trident. Jeiku smiled.

“Let’s try it again,” Jeiku said. Akimoto wrinkled his nose and gave Jeiku a look before releasing the tension in his face.

“Fine,” Akimoto replied. “Let’s just finish it quickly.” Jeiku nodded at his friend again, and then motioned for him to come forward. Akimoto attacked again, just like before. The two continued practicing for several hours, until finally Jeiku was able to go through the move with enough speed to be able to use the move in battle.

After the training, the two of them headed home together. It was nice to have some companionship; recently, his training had usually been ending with him alone. As they headed back, the sun was just beginning to fall behind the horizon. Akimoto and Jeiku agreed it was dinner time, and they made their dinner plans as they headed back home.

Jeiku twisted his shoulder around as he stretched. He hadn’t trained since a recent injury and his right arm was still covered in bandages. His shoulder itself had been injured as well, but Jeiku was certain it would be fine for today. After finishing with his shoulder, he began to rotate his neck. The last thing he wanted was to hurt himself even worse. After finishing his stretches, Jeiku picked up his trident; there was more weapon play to be done today.

“So, you ready?” Akimoto asked, shooting Jeiku an angry look. Akimoto rarely got up this early, and Jeiku knew that he would be frustrated all day because he had. But Jeiku often trained early in the day, and he was happy that his friend had agreed to help him. Akimoto was frowning, but Jeiku smiled back at him.

“Yup! Let’s do it,” he responded happily. Akimoto began to smile as the two of them took positions about 20 feet apart. Jeiku shot his friend an odd look. Why was he smiling? Akimoto noticed and responded.

“I’ve been waiting some time to throw kunai at you!” he laughed. Akimoto reached into his bag, pulling out a handful of kunai knives. He dropped them on the ground in front of him, then picked up two, shifting so that he had one in each hand. The Genin turned sideways and flipped one of the kunai around his finger, catching it in his hand. His eyes narrowed. “Here I come!”

Jeiku moved his right foot backwards, holding his trident in both hands. Akimoto released a kunai at Jeiku, and he raised his weapon. The prongs of Jeiku’s trident clanged with the kunai, and the knife flew high into the air, landing harmlessly at Jeiku’s feet. Jeiku turned his gaze up to his friend.

“Not bad,” Akimoto commended. “Let’s try again, shall we?” The Genin was enjoying this too much, Jeiku thought, but he didn’t have time to respond. Akimoto sent another kunai flying towards him at a great speed. Jeiku raised his weapon, shifting his left hand down a bit on the trident’s grip. The kunai bounced off the grip, and fell several feet away from Jeiku. Jeiku smiled back at his friend, and nodded, telling his friend to try again.

“Alright then,” Akimoto said, picking up two more kunai. He threw them both, one after another. Jeiku raised his trident again, blocking the first kunai with the grip of his weapon, and the second with the prongs. The two kunai went flying in different directions, harmlessly landing several feet away. Jeiku turned back to his friend and gave him a smirk. “Yea okay,” Akimoto said turning around as if to pick up another kunai. Instead, he swung back around quickly, releasing another knife flying towards Jeiku. “Think fast!”

Jeiku turned his trident, and extended his arms. The kunai smacked into the far side of the trident, falling to the ground nearby. Akimoto’s aim had not been precise, but Jeiku was still able to make contact.

“Are you up for trying again?” Jeiku asked. Akimoto nodded, and the two of them moved back into their positions. Akimoto picked up another kunai.

Jeiku yawned as he walked out to his training area. It had become a very comfortable place for him, despite the fact that it looked like a herd of elephants had trampled through. What he was about to do today, he thought, would not make it look any nicer either. Jeiku had never learned any Suiton jutsu before, despite having used storm jutsu for some time. He was told that he should have a knack for it, since he was able to control the liquid storm so well. He had never wanted to try; water style jutsu never seemed to be all that useful to him in battle. It wouldn’t be able to strengthen his attacks, and while it might be able to strengthen his defense, he was confident his storm jutsu was already more than sufficient in that regard. Nevertheless, he knew that it was important for shinobi to have a large diversity of jutsu to draw upon.

Jeiku dropped his trident and backpack by a nearby tree, and pulled out the scroll he had been looking at all morning. It was a pretty basic jutsu, probably not very useful in the heat of battle. But it wouldn’t take up much chakra either, and since it was simple, it was a good place to start. Jeiku positioned himself in the center of the clearing, and quickly weaved the hand seals.

He focused chakra in his gut, and up into his mouth, attempting to convert it into water chakra. This was particularly difficult for him, and as he opened his mouth to unleash the attack, a small blast of chakra was released, dissipating before a few feet. He tried again, moving through the hand seals quickly before beginning to concentrate his chakra again. This time, he made certain to turn the chakra into water and his mouth. When he could feel the water slushing around in his cheeks, he opened his mouth, attempting to release the jutsu. There was not enough force behind the attack, however, and the water simply dripped out of his mouth, drenching his feet.

Jeiku shook his head as he prepared to try again. This time, he would push out the water attack; he’d get it for sure. After weaving the hand seals, Jeiku concentrated chakra in his mouth and converted it to water just like before. However, before he fired the attack, he took a deep breath in through his nose. All at once, he opened his mouth and forced the water out. As the ball emerged, it expanded into about two feet in diameter. It rushed forward, although relatively slowly to Jeiku’s other moves. When it slammed into a nearby tree, it released quite an amount of force, splintering the bark from the tree. Jeiku took another deep breath. He had learned his first water style jutsu.

Jeiku stretched his neck as he prepared to practice a new jutsu. He had learned his first Suiton jutsu yesterday, and the truth was he had enjoyed it. Water type jutsu apparently came easily to him, not to mention it was relatively relaxing to learn. While water style was perhaps not as useful as Jeiku’s other jutsus, it was far more relaxing to learn than his Raiton or Storm jutsu. He didn’t have to worry about electrocuting himself, or someone else, or about starting a fire etc. It was simple, easy and safe to learn. Jeiku hadn’t planned on learning many Suiton jutsu originally, but now he was giving it some serious thought.

Jeiku looked at the scroll he had brought once more. The jutsu looked simple enough. The goal was to create a shield; and ellipse of some sort, protecting him from an attack on one side. He had already learned the storm dome technique, wherein he was able to create an entire shield around himself, but that took a lot of chakra. This jutsu would be easy compared to that, and much less physically exhausting.

Jeiku weaved the hand seals, preparing to try the jutsu. After completing them, he focused his chakra in his mouth. He found it a bit odd that all Suiton jutsu seemed to come from his mouth; it must have had something to do with spit? No… it must have been because he needed a focal point to create water in the first place. Whatever the reason, Jeiku found it weird.

After focusing enough chakra, he took a deep breath through his nose, and just like with the previous jutsu, he released it all at once. Water flew from Jeiku’s mouth, but it spread apart before dissipating less than a second after it was released. Jeiku raised his hand to his chin, thinking about how to proceed. He needed to focus on controlling the jutsu, just like he did with his storm techniques.

Jeiku went through the hand seals once more, and collected chakra in his mouth converting it to water. After waiting a few seconds concentrating on control, Jeiku released a spray of water. The water flew forward, creating a concave lens like shield in front of him. Jeiku looked up. The shield did not protect him from much above him, but it would do the trick from his front. He released the jutsu, deciding to take a break before practicing it again.

Jeiku reached his arms out at full length as he stretched. His work with water techniques had been soothing so far, and he thought he would continue them today. He had found a technique that he thought would be a slam dunk. It was the water whip. Jeiku had already mastered creating a whip from his chakra in the lightning whip technique, and with his experience with storm and other water style jutsu, he figured he’d be able to control the water rather easily. Besides that, it was a relatively low ranked technique; it had all the signs of an easy-to-learn jutsu.

Jeiku slowly walked to the center of his training area as he studied the scroll carefully. It did appear simple enough, he thought, and he carefully placed the scroll down at his feet. He weaved the hand seals rather quickly, having seen most of them before. Upon completion, he reached his arms out forward, holding his hands together in front of him. He concentrated his chakra in his hands, converting it to water. He then slowly pulled is hands apart, watching as water appeared between them. When his hands were about a foot away, however, the water dropped to the ground, and the jutsu dissipated.

Jeiku shook his head before preparing to try again. He went through the hand seals as he thought. It appeared that the creation of the water whip would probably be the most difficult thing for him, since he had never created water outside of his body before. It was not as easy as he thought. He focused at the task at hand.

Jeiku spent nearly an hour and a half attempting to work out the move before taking a break. It was taking him much longer than he thought to get this jutsu to work, and he had quickly become disappointed. However, after eating a snack he had brought with him, he got back to work.

After quickly going through the hand seals, Jeiku reached his arms out like before. They were already beginning to ache from all the training he had done earlier, but he would push through it. He focused his chakra in his hands, turning it into Suiton. He pulled his hands apart, and watched as a stream of water connected them. He concentrated on his right hand as water began to surround it as well. When his arms were roughly three feet apart, Jeiku jerked his arms apart, dropping them both to his sides. A seven foot long whip of Suiton appeared, connected to Jeiku’s right hand, now entirely submerged in water. Jeiku took a deep breath as he swung the jutsu for the first time at a target: a nearby tree. It cut into the tree, leaving a thin but deep mark.

*Water Whip
D-Rank Suiton Ninjutsu
Water Whip is a technique that utilizes water to create a seven foot long whip. To do this, they must perform the needed seals and concentrate chakra in their hands. By placing them together and pulling them apart, the user will be able to form the whip, where the grip is simply a sphere of water that encases one of the user’s hands. The hand it surrounds is up to the user, but it cannot switch after the technique has been cast. If anything enters the water that is around the user’s hand, the whip will lose its form and splash onto the ground. The whip is about one inch in diameter and functions as a regular whip, delivering as much pain as a leather whip would. However, the whip is a little more durable, unable to be cut by strike from regular metal if attacked with a strength stat less than the user’s control. The whip lasts one post for every stamina point the user has.

Jeiku sighed as he prepared to get to work. The trip to his normal training area had been made miserable by the rain; there was a heavy downpour that seemed to overwhelm the area. It was truly a storm unlike there had been for weeks. At first it really bothered Jeiku, but after he became soaked, it mattered much less. He was going to be working on water style jutsu anyway; he would probably be soaked by the end of his practice regardless of the rain.

As he arrived in his training area, he dropped his trident, already drenched, by the side of a nearby tree. He had to stop bringing the weapon with him, but he was never certain of what exactly he’d be training every day, and decided it was best to have it with him just in case. The jutsu he would be working on today was the highest level water technique he had ever tried to learn. He thought he had gotten a good grip on the lower level techniques categorized as Suiton jutsu, and he wanted to try a higher ranked technique to test his skills as well as strengthen the variety of jutsu he had at his disposal.

The particular technique Jeiku was focusing on today had the goal of creating a rather large wave that could be used to either attack the opponent, or defend against an incoming attack. Thin, but tall, it would be affective as a swipe or as a shield. The technique was relatively complicated, however, and Jeiku wasn’t certain he’d be able to pull it off like he had the others.

He decided to go for it. He weaved the hand seals from the scroll he had memorized this morning; he was lucky he had too, since the rain would have destroyed the scroll if he had brought it with him. After completing the hand seals, he bent his knees, dropping most of his body to the ground. He placed his right hand on the ground, and focused Suiton chakra into the earth. A small amount of water was created, almost indistinguishable from the puddles that were already beginning to form from the rain. The water pooled together before rising about two inches and dropping to the ground.

This jutsu was going to be challenging. But Jeiku wouldn’t give up. He went through the hand seals again, kneeling to the ground and slamming his right hand on the ground, this time with more force than before. The force appeared to be irrelevant, however, as the same thing happened; a small pool of water rose from the ground to about two inches in height before dissipating.

The next two hours went very similarly. The rain continued to poor heavily, soaking Jeiku as well as his training area, making it more difficult for him to distinguish between the natural water, and his own Suiton. But he continued trying, time after time, until his chakra had just about run out at mid-day. He had managed to get the wave to rise to about three feet; not nearly where the jutsu should be, but it was practice. He laid himself down on a small mound beneath a nearby tree so as to get his head wet. He had packed some soup in a container, which was a good thing to have for lunch because it wouldn’t get wet. After eating, he relaxed and watched the rain. Since he was already soaked, and had been for hours now, he could just sit quietly and enjoy the rain. He thought about learning Suiton; it was truly an amazing element to know, and he felt lucky to have the ability he did.

After about an hour, staying cool in the rain, before getting back to work. As he stood, he nearly fell back over. His legs felt weak from having laid down for the past hour, and it took him a few seconds to regain his balance. Once he had, however, he began to weave the hand seals again. Completing the hand seals, he dropped, rather quickly to the ground, more quickly then he thought, slamming his hand on the ground. He pushed as much chakra as he could into the jutsu, and water began to pool on the ground in a large quantity. It rose into the air, a full six feet high before rushing forward, crashing into a nearby tree. Jeiku smiled between his heavy breaths. He really had been exhausted of most of his chakra. He turned back towards the village. He was soaked, tired, and beginning to get cold. It was time to go home.

*Rising Water Cutter
C-Rank Suiton Ninjutsu
By performing the correct seals, the user will transfer Suiton chakra into the ground and cause a thin wave of water to flow towards a target. The water is powerful enough to split open earth, flowing upwards at a peak height of six feet, a width of a half a foot at a speed and force equal to the average of the user’s ninjutsu and control, with a maximum of eight. With this technique they are able to change the course of the wave up to three times with a maximum shift of ninety degrees. The one foot thick wave travels a total of fifteen feet before dissipating.
