Hayasu sat back against a rather sturdy wall in the command area, legs crossed and Kureiji calmly sitting on his shoulder. Oddly, Hayasu was quite calm, and not making others deal with his usual antics..somewhat of a rarity to those who knew him well enough. Various shinobi hustled around him, writing on scrolls, passing intel, and generally operating as efficiently as possible. He continued to keep his pose, fidgeting here and there, clearly lost in deep thought. Despite being a colossally sized man, he managed to stay out of the way of anyone who came near. His positioning was perfect to get a nice broad overview of the area, whilst being able to think and keep his attention to his surroundings. Before long, a Jounin beckoned him to the mission assignment room, shutting him inside so nobody else could hear.

"Hayasu. It's probably a bit odd to be requested by name by Command, but with recent events, you're probably the best we have for this." The Jounin spoke, nodding his head as he flipped open a scroll to detail the mission. An ornate map of the mountain range sprawled across the table, to which Hayasu didn't even bother looking at. For him, a map of the mountains was about as useful as water to a fish. He practically lived there, and knew it as anyone would know their own home.

A little offput, the Jounin raised an eye but continued. "We need you to track a splinter group from the recent war. They're hiding out and doing a surprisingly good job of covering their tracks. We suspect a rogue shinobi may be involved. While we would generally assign a task force for this, resources are spread extremely thin. You know the mountains the best, and with your strength and current availability, there was no question of who to contract to this." The man said, shifting his brown hair a little before continuing. Hayasu didn't waver, instead absorbing every bit of information into his head. Even the hyperactive Kureiji stayed collected.

"The goal is to find and either kill or capture your targets. You have one week, as we suspect they either will have fled the country by then, or whatever plan they have in store for us will of been accomplished. Any questions? Your file reads you're not usually so...relaxed?" The Jounin spoke out again, to which Hayasu looked at him. Continuing to pause, the Shinobi listened to his first response.

"Yeah no, I'm good, I was just really thinking hard about what I wanted for dinner...so far I'm thinking Katsu. Or maybe Ramen. Or both!" Hayasu said with a chuckle, grinning as he gave a thumbs up, Kureiji whooping as the Jounin fell over in complete shock before regaining his composure, coughing into his hand a bit.

"We will be providing some rations and climbing gear if neccessary. We're assigning this mission as a B-Class. Should be a walk in the park. We've also assigned Nukegara, Sou to assist and back you up. This mission will be in your command, but Sou has a pretty solid record." The Jounin said, still completely caught off guard by Hayasu.

Hayasu grinned even wider. "Perfect! I'm ready to go whenever! When does he arrive?!" he asked curiously, his energy and excitement coming through as he sat up a bit. It was clear he was ready to get things started.

His fingers ran along the edge of the kunai he was inspecting, a slight frown evident on his face when it didn't slice open his finger until he applied more pressure. Sticking his finger in his mouth for a moment, coating the small cut in saliva, Sou put the kunai down next to the row of five he had laid out on the bench in front of him, making sure it was straight and precisely in line with the others. It wasn't as sharp as he could get it but it would do for now. The Chuunin made a quick set of hand seals and channelled his chakra into the kunai and the Fuuinjutsu they were laid out on. In a plume of smoke they disappeared and left only the seal and the weapon holster it was drawn on.

He had been summoned for a mission. Thankfully he had already been in the middle of working on sorting his weapon pouches so getting ready was only taking him a few minutes. He was to report to the mission assignment room ASAP to find out exactly what his mission would entail, the Genin that had told him to report for duty either hadn't known the details or didn't bother to tell him. Probably the former. Strapping the weapon holster to his thigh, he adjusted the metal band that was held there as well, emblazoned with the symbol of Kumo. The candlelight flickered off it, making it shine, the light reflected in his eyes as he hardened himself for the mission ahead. This was war, so if he was being called for a mission, there was a good chance he would end up having to kill again.

Letting out a slow, steady breath, he turned around and headed out the door, taking to the rooftops to quickly ascend the levels of Kumo until he reached his destination. Sou let out a sigh as he reached the mission assignment room, his breath visible in front of his face in the cold weather. Knocking on the door, Sou waited a moment before poking his head in first to ensure that this was the place he was reporting to before walking in completely to get out of the cold.

"Nukegara Sou, reporting for duty, sir."

Hayasu heard Sou poke his head in at the perfect moment before turning, grin still plastered from ear to ear. "Sou my friend! It's been so long!" Hayasu said grabbing him into a bear hug, squeezing him tightly before setting him down and patting his shoulder. He offered him a seat before pulling a spare flash of Sake and offering it to him. "Nothing like a drink before a mission right? Lets go over the details!" Hayasu chuckled, sitting back down. Kureiji leapt from Hayasu's head to Sou's shoulder, hugging his head and patting it. His version of affection..how adorable.

Inside Hayasu's head however, he continued to weigh the mission. One thing he had always done, and effectively at that, was play the idiot. An opponent fighting a fool will drop his guard, and those moments are when Hayasu always hit the hardest. It was definitely a wise decision to never underestimate him..he was much smarter then he implied. Calculating the various routes in his head, he narrows it down to approximately four different zones that would suit the criteria. Based on intel and approximations, it appeared this splinter group was around thirty strong, and if they were able to hide from Kumo's shinobi that meant one thing ; a traitor.

He scoffed at the idea as his blood boiled under his skin. He hated traitors. Nothing pissed him off like traitors or those who preyed on the weak. And he wasn't going to stand for it.

Sou winced when all the air in his lungs was promptly squeezed out by the rather ridiculously tall Hayasu. He swore he heard a few of his ribs crack under the pressure as well. Offering the man a sardonic smile when he let him go, Sou raised a hand in greeting. "Hello Hayasu. It's been a while." Flopping down into the offered seat and attempting to get his breath back, he shook his head and waved away the drink "I can't stomach that stuff." Sou offered a more genuine smile to the ever mischievous Kureiji when the monkey clambered onto his shoulder, reaching up to scratch under the primate's chin. "Good to see you too, Kureiji."

He reached over and plucked up the mission scroll, listening quietly as the Jounin ran over the details again for his benefit. Studying the map, his eyes flicking between that and the scroll. Capture or Kill, huh? He glanced over at Hayasu and noted the slight anger in his eyes. He supposed he shouldn't be surprised. Hayasu had likely come to the same conclusion that Sou had when he read the mission briefing. There was no doubt about it, this splinter cell definitely had a nukenin helping them out.

"From what I can gather there are probably five or six places they are hiding out, but you know the mountains better than I do, Hayasu." Sou started as he put the mission scroll back down. "Suggestions?"

Hayasu nodded. "I originally thought so too, but I had to narrow it based on how fast they can travel. Chances are if they have wounded, the mountains are going to be a colossal pain in the ass for them to get through. It's cold, it's dark, and there's beasts. They have to travel as a convoy. Convoy's wont be easy to hide or shuffle for a night. But if they're covering themselves sufficiently with that speed, It's definitely some form of snow jutsu or earth. Either way, I don't like it. Based on these graphs, they should be about half a day." Hayasu said allowed, for once showing his tactical mind, wrapping every word and thought into exactly what he had ran through his head.

"A half a day? That's bold Hayasu but that's at least a full day nonstop for us. There's no way-" The Jounin started before Hayasu grinned. The man didn't know Hayasu, and apparently had forgotten the very reason they contracted him to this; his rugged mastery of terrain.

'You worry about other teams. Sou and I will handle this. We'll be back by the end of the week. Do you have a method of transport?" Hayasu asked, the Jounin having been cut off but nodding before handing Sou a primative, but Fuuinjutsu sealed flare.

"Activate with Chakra, any recovery Shinobi in a several mile radius will see and alert. We'll assess and assist."
The Jounin said, at first handing it to Hayasu, but Hayasu instead waved it over to Sou. Sou was a much better choice to hold onto this, as Hayasu often got carried away to the point of almost recklessness. Plus, Sou had much better knowledge with seals then Hayasu.

Nodding, the Jounin furthered; "Well you guys should probably get some rest. Tomorrow you can dep-" And once more before he could finish, Hayasu grinned. "We leave today. Now in fact, if you're ready Sou? We have a target and a mission. Lets get this started." Hayasu grinned out, before getting up. Kureiji leapt back to his shoulder and waved back at the man, before the duo headed out the door. He knew Sou was the same way. They were Shinobi and Men of Action, not sit around and wait. He was almost positive neither one were going to be able to sleep anyway, may as well put the energy to use!

He headed out, clutching the mission scrolls in hand. He figured he would talk to Sou in private, waiting for him outside of earshot of anyone in the office area.

Sou nodded along, ignoring the part of his brain that was screaming something along the lines of 'Since when has this guy been so damn smart!?' Even Sou had to admit that Hayasu couldn't have made it to Special Jounin without some level of intelligence. It was just… strange to see. Pushing his musings to the back of his mind, he smiled and took the sealed flare, tucking it into the pouch on his utility belt he used for spare equipment. When the Jounin started to suggest they leave tomorrow, Sou opened to his mouth to disagree but found Hayasu already doing it for him.

With a small smile and a shake of his head, he shrugged at the Jounin. "You heard the man. See you in a week." With that, Sou stood up and adjusted his jacket before following Hayasu out into the hallway. Considering the look on his friend's face, Sou shook his head and motioned for the older of the duo to follow. While Hayasu knew the mountains like the back of his hand, Sou knew the administration building like the back of his. His older sister had worked here long enough that Sou spent a lot of time delivering lunches to the forgetful woman.

Finally reaching a private alcove away from prying ears and eyes, he turned to Hayasu and raised his eyebrows in question. "So what's the plan? You seem to be certain we can make that trek in half a day. You remember I'm not as fast as you are, right?" He adopted a slightly joking tone for the last part.

Hayasu nodded. "Of course he wants us to think it'll take longer. He's averaging things out, and forgetting I know routes in that mountain few else do. Plus, I don't trust anyone giving us details on a mission when there are traitorous ears around. Don't worry about the speed, I can slow down if necessary. It's going to be more imperative that we don't break and tell absolutely nobody that we've left or which way we're going. Right now there's two people we can trust. Ourselves." Hayasu spoke out, Kureiji complaining his disapproval. "Sorry, THREE of us..Either way. The sooner we can leave the better. Do you have everything you need?" Hayasu replied, scratching his chin a bit. His own coat and gi had all sorts of hidden compartments, and his own rations were more then plenty.

Hayasu was not the type to be against eating roots and beetles. He planned out the road ahead. Most would take through the various passes and merchant routes. Hayasu would go over the various mountains themselves. He handed the scroll over to Sou, knowing he had a better method of storing essentially confidential information then Hayasu. His general plan was to get as far as they could with what remained of the day and then camp out along the cliffs where they could watch below. At first light, they'd be back on the move. He would relay all of this to Sou, and would depart once given the thumbs up from his comrade.

Taking the scroll, Sou opened his coat to reveal the shoulder holster he wore for the more important scrolls he carried. Opened the empty one, he slipped the scroll inside before clipping it shut, all the while mulling over Hayasu's words. True, he suspected a nukenin of helping this splinter cell, but he hadn't considered that they might be getting inside help. He had just assumed it was a Kumo Ninja who had left during the civil war and we helping hide them, not a group that could be passing information. The look on Sou's face slowly shifted into a scowl.

"Since we apparently aren't trusting anyone I'll need to swing by home and grab a few things. I'd planned on taking the mission-issued rations but we've always got a few go-bags ready at my place. I'll grab two and meet you at the village entrance." He considered the monkey man's plan and mentally added a tent to the list of things he would grab. With a short wave and a smile, Sou tucked his hands into his pockets and adopted a less tense stance as he walked out of the alcove. As soon as he was out of the building he took off at a run as fast as he could.

Getting home it took Sou all of 20 seconds to have a pack slung over his shoulders, another one in his hand, and heading out the door again. The benefits of being part of a ninja family, they always had mission packs set up and ready to go. Once again taking to the roof tops, the Chuunin descended the levels of the village in the blink of an eye. Stepping out into the natural sunlight of the day, it took Sou's eyes a moment to adjust. The artificial light used inside the hollowed out mountain where Kumo was located was as close to sunlight as could be managed by chakra, but there was something about the actual sun that was just different.

Tugging his jacket closer around his shoulders, Sou started the descent through the abandoned temple that served as the entrance to the village. Hopefully Hayasu had waited for him instead of getting bored and going on ahead.

Understanding the need, he gave a thumbs up, careful to watch where the scroll was placed. He trusted Sou entirely, but it was good to know in the hundreds of events that could happen. As soon as Sou departed, Hayasu mirrored, disappearing in the opposite direction on purpose before rerouting to the front gate area. Kureiji clung tightly to his collar as they jumped from roof top to roof top, cliff to cliff.

Hayasu, having generally not had anything of value and slightly living the life of a bum, had grabbed what he could in a hurry from the closest corner shop. A few insta-ramens, some sake, and generally food. The essentials to any shinobi mission. He rang them up and quickly gave the necessary change before sprinting from the store towards the front gate.

Having arrived only a few moments before, as soon as he saw Sou he nodded. It was time to get going. "If you're ready, the hunt is on my friend" Hayasu spoke soundly, confident in their abilities. He didn't view Sou as a simple "Chuunin" or someone he was in charge of; he viewed him as a partner. Rank dictated politics to Hayasu, not prowess or respect. They departed immediately, heading for the mountain passes. He kept a reasonable pace, not wanting to get too far ahead of Sou, but turned from the comforting passes and began to climb higher and higher with the use of Chakra and raw strength.

"Eyes and ears everywhere, if you get tired, just speak up. We should be to the first location by nightfall." Hayasu called back, Kureji whooping in delight as the sun beat against their backs.

Following along behind Hayasu, Sou was immediately thankful the more physical man had the forethought to temper his pace so Sou wouldn't have to exhaust himself in keeping up. It was fairly easy as well, at least until they turned off the well-worn path up the mountain and onto far more dangerous territory. Sou let out a rough sigh when he realized just how Hayasu planned to carve their travel time in half. Sou simply stood for a moment, watching the way the other man climbed ridiculously similar to the monkey he always carried around, before shaking his head and tugging his hood up over his hair.

"You know, I think I'm going to cheat."

With that thought in mind, Sou focused his chakra below his feet. It took a second for the chakra to coalesce but once it did, Sou simply stepped onto the platform and was immediately shot straight up into the air. Even flying through the air, Sou was gathering his chakra once more, creating another platform which sent him careening even higher up the mountainside. It didn't take him long to catch up to Hayasu. Sure, it was a waste of chakra, but by the time they got to the top with Sou climbing like Hayasu, it'd be well into nightfall.

Latching onto the cliff face a few meters ahead of his partner, Sou looked down and smiled at the pair. "I'll meet you at the top, yeah?" He was kidding, of course. Sou had no idea which direction he needed to be climbing. Hayasu knew these mountains, Sou didn't.

Hayasu raised an eye when he sat his first comment. Cheat? As soon as he saw the little platform, he chuckled a bit and smirked. No reason they couldn't have a bit of fun to lighten the tone. "Oh yeah, I can set up camp for you when I get there!" Hayasu grinned as he sprung to all fours. Like a monkey up a tree, he sped up the cliffs, hopping swinging and pulling himself almost in pure silence save his whoops and cheering with Kureiji. It appeared he couldn't always be serious after all!

He sprang from ledge to ledge until they both neared the top, not-so-seriously racing as they reached the peak in a surprising amount of time. As they hit the summit Hayasu had pulled himself a bit too hard and launched himself into the air, slamming down into the gravel and looking over the misty peaks. He grinned as Sou had kept a good pace along side him, Hayasu resting on his own knee. "A pity we aren't here for the view. Still a good amount of ground to cover. YAHOO!" Hayasu cheered having dashed forward and sprang himself off the mountain into freefall. The wind screamed past his ears and he leapt down the mountain, fairly certain Sou could keep the accelerated pace, but he could slow down if needed.

Before long, it had been several hours of climbing, and soon dusk was nestled quite comfortably into the mountain ranges of Lightning Country. Hayasu shook a bit and checked their surroundings. They were on a rather high up plateau, but they definitely weren't far from a good location for a hideout. He crouched low, Kureiji peaking over his head as he examined the terrain below. No signs of fire or life yet, so he turned his attention to Sou. "See anything? I think it's a good idea to make a camp here tonight." Hayasu spoke, scratching Kureiji's chin.

Unlike the over exuberant Hayasu, Sou merely smiled and shook his head in amused exasperation upon reaching the top, dropping down from his last chakra platform to stand beside the kneeling man for a moment to catch his breath and let his chakra settle. Using it so constantly was taking a toll on his admittedly average control. When Hayasu went soaring off the side of the cliff, Sou sighed and looked out across the mountains, appreciated the view for a moment while Hayasu's excited shouting echoed throughout the mountain range. "So much for subtlety, heh. Well, one down, gods only know how many to go."
By the time they reached their last destination for the day before the sun fell too low to continue travelling over such dangerous terrain, Sou was completely drenched in sweat despite the cold of the mountains, which only served to make the cold affect him even more as it chilled his sweat. Tugging his jacket closer around him, he snuggled into the fur lining and tugged his hood as deep as he could without obscuring his vision too much. Still, he looked out over the plateau to the valleys below and frowned.

"Nothing. At least not in this light. Maybe they should have assigned a sensor instead of me, huh?" Shaking his head, he plucked the two packs he had brought with him from his shoulders and tossed one to Hayasu. "The tent is in that one. I'll set out about getting some food ready. Think we can risk a fire?"

Hayasu caught the pack and chuckled. "Don't worry about it. I'll take care of dinner and first watch. I know I've ran you ragged. A fire this high up is fine, nothing can bother us up here and nobody is going to see...and for what it's worth, I'd rather have a friend at my back then someone I've never met." Hayasu stated with a smile, nodding to Kureiji who jumped from his shoulder and scurried into the mountains. He'd be back. For now, Hayasu milled about, collecting various branches and dried wood before setting them down. With a deep breath and a colossal punch, the man buried his fist straight down into the earth, punching a rather moderate sized crater straight down with his inhuman strength. He tossed the lumber pickings into it and formed hand seals, causing a spark of Raiton chakra to ignite the wood and a small fire started.

He plumped down and grinned at Sou, taking a small pot out of his pack and setting it against the flames carefully before emptying out a water bottle into it. Before long, the water started to boil and Hayasu began to prepare some instant ramen before tossing Sou a pack of jerky he had made himself. "You're going to need to rebuild your energy. It gets quite cold out here too in the early hours in the morning." Hayasu had spoke out, nodding at Sou.

Before too long, the whooping and scurrying of Kureiji could be heard, as the monkey brought back a monkey-sized knapsack full of mountain berries and fruits. He whooped a bit and strolled triumphantly to Sou, offering him a handful of berries.

Sou stared up at the stars, the crackling fire warming his face and casting an orange glow over their campsite. Hayasu's ridiculous strength had made setting up camp far quicker and easier than if Sou had been setting up. Tomorrow they would have to start combing the hiding spots that Hayasu knew of with a fine-tooth comb for any sign of the splinter cell. He smiled when he noticed a particular star sparkling brighter than the others, distracting him from his thoughts. His mother had once tried to explain astronomy to him, not that he could remember the stars actual name. He was never good with stuff like that as a kid. The crunching of leaves drew his attention away from the sky and he turned his head to see Kureiji come scuttling back into the camp.

"Thanks pal." Sou took the berries and started munching on them before leaning in closer to the boiling pot that Hayasu had tainted with instant ramen. He let out a soft sigh before opening up his pack and plucking out several sealed bags. "Out of the way." With a meticulous hand, Sou started adding ingredients to the broth, a few spices, and slowly stirred it until the mouth-watering smell of miso ramen was filling the air. Plucking two bowls and two pairs of chopsticks from his bag, he dished up the noodle soup and handed one to Hayasu before glancing to Kureiji. "Unless you guys have another bowl you're gonna have to share. Sorry."

Taking up his portion, he blew on it a few times and clapped his hands together. "Thank you for the food!" And then with a surprising amount of gusto, Sou started tearing into the soup like he hadn't eaten in over a week. When he was finally done, Sou dumped his dish close to the fire and the pot, he could wash it out later, and leaned back to rest his weight on his elbows. "So tomorrow, what's the plan? We can't just go romping about the mountains. If they're as good at hiding as they seem to be, they'll spot us well before we spot them."

Hayasu was a bit surprised at Sou, whom pushed him aside to add his various spices and herbs. Before long, even Hayasu's belly growled at the sensational smells that the seasoned miso ramen gave. "Well don't let me stop you. Kureiji will take care of himself." Kureiji wasn't much for Ramen, so he stuck to his berries and jerky Hayasu had prepared on his own. Hayasu however, went to town on the bowl of ramen. The loud slurps of noodles and broth were all that came from the mountainous man, and before long, his belly bulged full as he let out a rather long yawn before plopping onto his side next to the fire.

At Sou's thank you, Hayasu gave him a nod and thumbs up before formulating a plan in his head. "Well, We should probably do more investigating just before dawn. Use the early morning cold and darkness to our advantage. If we wait until day, we risk being seen or caught as we search. I definitely think you're correct in your analysis. The best thing to do is get a short rest and what sleep we can before we head back into the night. I'm always up for a good fight, but we have to make sure there's no stragglers." Hayasu said, Kureiji heading to plop against Hayasu's chest, snoring loudly while Hayasu shook his head. "Get some sleep for now, I'll wake you when it's time to move out." Hayasu told Sou, satisfied with his plan for the moment.

The moon started to appear against the darkness. By Hayasu's calculation, they had about six hours of solid sleep before they needed to be ready to move into the night. It should be enough for them to be rested and ready with chakra in the event of a fight.

It didn't take long to fall asleep to the crackling of the fire, especially after he had set up his tent to escape the cold. Unfortunately for Sou his rest didn't last long. The unfortunate side to eating a dinner so full of liquid? He really had to take a piss. Being woken up to the feeling of a full and painful bladder was not the most pleasant sensation in the world. It was more akin to torture really. Moving quickly and quietly to avoid waking Hayasu and Kureiji, he went a decent way away from their small campsite to relieve himself off the side of the plateau.

And of course just as he reached the ledge, desperate to go, Sou found himself face to face with a helmeted man climbing over the edge, sword out and ready to attack. Only one thought came to mind.

"Oh you mother f-!"

The song of steel cutting through air cut him off as he was forced to throw himself backwards to avoid getting bisected. With a grit of his teeth, Sou flicked open his thigh holster and withdraw a kunai, spinning it around his finger before pushing off like a runner at the start of a race, his chakra flooding his system and pooling in the weapon. Steel met steel with a clash of sparks that seemed to light up the night sky, revealing the smirk on Sou's face.

"Boom."

A half second later, the chakra he had gathered exploded outwards straight at this bastard that dared interrupt his midnight piss.

Hayasu was immediately alerted, having dozed off a little bit after a few hours of silence. The moment that the explosive hit was triggered, Hayasu let out a terrifying roar. "WAKE ME FROM MY NAP WILL YOU?!" Hayasu's voice boomed, echoing off the mountain as he bolted at blinding speed. Like a bull sinking his horns in, Hayasu speared into another man off the cliff edge himself. The grotesque sounds of Hayasus's powerful fists smashing into his skull could be heard as they freefalled into the cliff. Not even the helmet he wore served to be any use. As he fell into the void, he could hear a small group shouting as they still climbed the walls. It appears it was a small group of unknown adversaries.

The man Hayasu had by now pulverized into a bloody mess was pretty much as dead as he could get. He turned to a nose dive and aimed for the cliff, the flickering of a Kunai to his hand as he dug it into the mountain side to slow his descent. He huffed and checked around, the slam of the man's lifeless body hitting the cliffs echoing back up. He needed to get back to Sou, though Kureiji was there to back him up.

Immeditately he began to climb up the mountain like some kind of deranged monkey, leaping and flying up the mountain side as he made his way up. He grabbed various bandits and threw them aside as he climbed, their cries screaming as they fell down. Hayasu was going to be a minute, but he was confident Sou would hold.

Meanwhile, at the top part of the cliff, Kureiji whooped as he growled and ran towards Sou, leaping onto his back and off his head into the man he was currently clashing with, using the disorentation from the explosion to begin pulling at his eyes and nose, the man screaming and flailing to try and get Kureiji off his face, but allowing Sou an opportunity to strike. However, more men were starting to rise up the cliff side, and soon Sou was going to be surrounded.

There were a lot of things Sou had expected tonight. Getting some sleep, having a conversation, maybe even a chance to enjoy his midnight bathroom break. Something he hadn't expected? An enraged giant of a man screaming like a nutter and throwing himself off the side of a cliff. Both Sou and his opponent, who was just now clambering to his feet after that explosion, paused for a moment to simply watch Hayasu and the poor sod he had grabbed go flying, caught in a state of pure disbelief.

"D-did that just..?"

"Happen? I believe so, yeah."

The moment was interrupted when Kureiji used Sou's head as a launch pad to send himself flying at the bandit. With a quick shake of his head, Sou dashed forward and drove his kunai into the throat of the distracted man. Drawing the blade back out, he motioned for the monkey to jump onto his shoulder before delivering a solid kick to the now corpse's stomach, sending him flying off the edge.

Of course, the rest of the bandits had started crawling over the ledges now. Withdrawing more kunai, he started to let loose with the blades with pinpoint accuracy. He may not be the fastest shot but damn it he was good at hitting exactly what he wanted to hit. Admittedly he could probably knock most of them off the edge right here and now but he didn't want to waste chakra with a wide spread Wind technique, especially after having used so much just to climb the damn mountain.

Kureiji whooped excitedly; there was nothing like combat to get him going. He quickly darted expertly up Sou's body and perched at his shoulder, beating his chest almost like a gorilla. Dynamite came in small packages, and despite Sou's indication for him to stay, Kureiji leaped off and weaved between all of the bandits who tried to kill him. He dove into Hayasu's bag and pulled out a few more Kunai, only managing to carry three effectively before scurrying back over to Sou and leaping onto his shoulders, arming him with more Kunai. Kureiji would supply him as much ammo as he could, but it wouldn't be long before Hayasu came back on a rampage.

Hayasu grumbled as he continued his ascent up the cliff. He really needed to stop and think once in a while, but how was he to know there was a small force coming up the damned cliffs? Sighing, he threw various shuriken and kunai puncturing and hitting their marks without effort. His strength didn't help this either, as most of the kunai he threw sunk straight through the soldiers and stuck into the cliff, allowing him to utilize them as handholds. Before long, he reached the top and pulled himself up, slamming into the ground and brushing himself off before examing around. He noticed Sou and Kureiji holding their own, but they were started to get overrun from the last ten or so. Sou was doing admirably, but Hayasu had enough excitement for now.

He stretched for a moment and then sprinted as hard as he could, a blur of mountainous muscle and strength as he bulldozed through the men and knocked at least five over before Kureiji tossed him a kunai, to which he flicked around and gripped it just in time to engage another. With a monkey-esque whoop he gripped the man's chest and fell to his knees, picking him up and using the fabric to grip toss him over the edge before readying for the next attacker.

Sou was quick to take the extra ammunition from the monkey, suddenly seeing the appeal of having the little bugger around all the time. With a grin, Sou flipped backwards as one of the bandits got a little too close, landing in a crouch and loosed two kunai at once. The results were Sou getting a little arterial spray on his cheek which made the Chuunin frown. He couldn't exactly go shower real quick out here either. With an annoyed click of his tongue, Sou ducked under a swipe from a Kanabo and, driving it into the man's stomach, kicked him off the cliff.

It was around then that Hayasu reappeared and started to rampage. Sou took the opportunity to get out of the melee and started picking off people with shuriken rather than unsealing any more kunai; Kureiji had tossed his last kunai to Hayasu. "Nice of you to rejoin us. How was your trip?" When the man threw one of the last ones over the ledge, Sou glanced around to see one or two stragglers trying to retreat. It was basically over at this point.

Hayasu snorted, clearly not amused by the attack his final attacker made, he anticipated the punch, extending his forearm to deflect it to the side, and grasping it at the elbow. He then took his free hand, slamming his wrist into the man's groin before locking the man's arms up and unleashing a flurry of extremely brutal knees until the man slumped over, his chest caved in from his armor sinking into his ribs. Hayasu then picked him up and tossed him over Sou's head. Listening to Sou's comment, he shrugged. "I usually prefer Spring to Fall, but hey, I make do with what I'm given." Hayasu retorted before checking around the area.

Hayasu then saw the escape artists attempting to flee. Sighing, he sprinted full force, easily running the men down and leaping up, slamming their faces into the ground and dragging their faces into the dirt before flinging them with all his might, launching them several dozen meters back into the camp area at Sou's feet. Bruised, battered, and broken, they could do much else but groan and cough up blood. Without hestiation, Hayasu kicked one of them in the ribs, listening to him scream as he flew off the cliff to his death. The other started to beg. "PLEASE! DON'T KILL ME! I HAVE A FAMILY I-" Was all he managed before he was promptly slapped so hard the man's jaw almost broke.

Hayasu gripped his collar and lifted him into the air, growling. "Not only did you interrupt my nap, my friend's much needed piss, AND try to run, but now you're trying to guilt me into not ripping you in half?! I highly suggest you speak. NOW." Hayasu bellowed, his voice probably much different in tone then Sou remembered. War will do that to a man. Unfortunately for Hayasu as well, a warm trickle of liquid dripped down the man's leg onto his shoe. Perfect.

The man shakily quivered and stuttered in fear. "We-We was j-just bandits sir. Thinking yeh had something we could rob you of. We d-didn't realize you was shinobi."was all the man could utter, squealing at Hayasu. "Oh, Well then, No worries. You have a good night. Sorry for the misunderstanding." Hayasu grinned, giving him a thumbs up before setting him down. The man fell to his knees in shock. "R-Really?! I'm free to-" Was all that was said before Hayasu dropped kicked him so hard he flew almost to the far cliff, screaming the entire way as he fell into the void that made up the shadow of the mountain. Hayasu immediately sprang up and yelled to him; "THATS FOR PISSING ON MY DAMNED SANDAL!"

Sou looked around at the blood stained snow and their ruined campsite and let out a sigh. Hayasu was dealing with the last of the group, shaking the poor sod like a ragdoll, demanding answers from him. With a slight shake of his head, he started to toss the snow over with his foot to try and cover the blood; the last thing he needed was trying to sleep with that smell invading his senses. "Any chance he was lying? Seemed like a lot of bandits for just two people. If they didn't know we were ninja they wouldn't have sent so many." Not that the numbers had helped them much.

He thought back over the fight and was surprised at the image of Hayasu. It was competing with the memory he had of the much more fun loving Chuunin he had sparred with so long ago. War changed people, he knew that, but he hadn't realized just how much. He liked to think he had retained a lot of who he was, even after killing so many, but Hayasu was… ruthless. The though brought a frown to his face for a moment before he quickly covered it up with a small smile, turning his attention back to the duo of Hayasu and Kureiji.

"I really need to pee."

Hayasu scoffed a bit and yawned, shaking his leg clean and growling in anger."He's not lying, nobody would know these mountains like this save for bandits or people who have been here a while. However, I do agree it was excessive amount. Maybe I have more enemies out here then I thought. Either way, this position is compromised, we can't use this area. We're gonna' have to dirt nap it for a while and proceed ahead from there. I'll have to get even more secluded, though it's going to get quite cold..However, I think this next camp out spot will be much more suitable. We'll go after we investigate in the morning." He replied, scratching his chin before started to rummage and clean the camp as well. He tossed the bodies over the side and did his best to get rid of the inevitable stench. Luckily for them both, it was cold enough for them not to rot fast. But either way, the smell of death and battle was a scent you couldn't mask easily.

Before long, he finished as much as he was able before plopping back down to sleep. Kureiji whooped and slid in next to him, curling up next to the fire as Hayasu stoked it and they began to call it a night. The fire crackled, burned, and blazed with additional wood. It would suit them for the last few hours of rest they could manage. Looking over to Sou, he chuckled. "Should be much easier to take a piss now. We have about four hours before we need to move and check for camps. If you need longer I can leave a map, but its your call." Hayasu said with a nod, as his eyes shut and he listened to the howling winds.

Dawn would break in four hours, and thus the real investigation would have to start.

"It's probably better if we don't split up. Four hours it is." As soon as he was doing relieving himself, Sou made his way back to the fire and picked up a stick, stoking it as he stared into the flames. Soon the only sounds that echoed through the night was the crackling and popping of the fire, the soft breathing of Hayasu and Kureiji, and the howling wind as it ran through the ravines below.

He was… concerned. There was a level of brutality to what ninja did. He knew and understood that as much as any other shinobi. What they did wasn't pretty and rarely nice, but it was necessary. In the flames he saw the face of Hayasu as he rampaged through the bandits, the obvious anger as he tore them apart like they were nothing more than a nuisance. His eyes cut across to the sleeping form of his friend, his frown from earlier making its reappearance. He had done things he wasn't proud of during the war. Everyone had. And it had left a vengeful streak within them all.

Sou wasn't judging Hayasu; the man had obviously gone through a lot more than Sou himself had. He was more… trying to reconcile the memories he had of Hayasu with this new version. Eventually he just sighed and tossed the stick into the fire, rolling over to get at least a few more hours shut eye before they went to find this splinter cell. With any luck there would be no more surprise attacks.

Heh, yeah right.

Like they were that lucky.
