[PlotBoard] Departure

Post by Taiga » Sun Oct 15, 2017 12:33 am

It wasn't an every day occurrence that the leader of the village- the Raikage left for excursion. To the people this was a secret, and to the higher ups of the village there was a tension that would remain until the moment Hayate stepped back into the village. Despite the negative feelings some had about him, it was certain that he was the most powerful man in the country, and one of the most powerful in the world. While he had attributed this to his hard-work, many felt that he was one of the rare geniuses every generation held. That said, with war gone, alliances forged, and the country stabilizing Hayate felt it safe to leave the seat in the hands of his bannin, council, and his elite Jounin. Besides, he had fail safes in place. Contact between him and the capitol would be constant, and additionally a few of his permanent clones, made with his new artifact, would remain back in his office.

Shutting the door to the office his appearance shifted to no more than a vanilla Jounin of the village, his face and clothes so simple it was truly a form in which he was nigh impossible to remember. With that, he departed for the village exit to the main bridge. From that bridged he'd be able to access the docks, and the boats. That's also where a very special package would be waiting for him- also disguised as he was.

Sou spun the scroll around in his hand, a little disconcerted by the fact that the colour of his skin was now a healthy tanned rather than its usual pale pigment. The scroll had been a 'gift' from the Raikage, sealed within was a transformation technique that was supposed to be harder to detect than most. He had slipped his Banri-appointed watchers earlier that morning, leaving behind an aura-enriched clone that would hopefully throw them off his scent for a few hours at least. He tugged at the white flak jacket, still not used to wearing one outside of the battlefield. He had worn one during the civil war but had quickly abandoned it.

His recent promotion to Jounin however meant he was wearing it once more, along with the generic uniform issued to all Kumo ninja. He looked so average he felt like people where staring at him, like he was so normal it was abnormal. Being a Jinchuuriki instilled Sou with a healthy paranoia, it wasn't something he was ashamed to admit. He was constantly being watched by one party or another after all, he had gotten a knack for knowing when someone was watching him. He cocked his head to the side as he looked towards the bridge leading back into the village proper, trying to figure out which, if any, of the approaching figures was the Raikage.

'Are you sure this course of action is wise, my container?'

'I'm not sure of much these days, to be completely honest.'

'The one-eyed man would treat us as a weapon, the thief would have you act as if you are in control. They are both wrong, we act as one to do as we please. We should kill them both and take our rightful place as protector of this land.'

Sou had to keep from letting out a sarcastic chuckle, although the emotion was likely voiced across their mental link anyway. 'You're awfully big on this 'we' and 'us' thing all of a sudden. What happened to taking control of my body and forcing my mind into your prison? Did you get bored?'

The echoing rumble of Koengu, the Phantom Genma's, growl pierced Sou's skull and made the young man wince a little. 'Worry not, oh jailor mine. Your time will come, eventually, as mortal's do. You forget that I am a creature of pure chakra, the rightful wielder of all chakra. I am as eternal as the energy that fuels you. I have simply decided to apply… patience.'

'Yeah, sure thing beast. Personally I think you're starting to like me.'

Sou shut down their connection when the growl started to come through once more, a smirk on his face, as he refocussed his attention on trying to find the Raikage.

[PlotBoard] Departure

Hayate had been perched near a food stall for a while, having taken the chance to enjoy some fresh takoyaki while he waited for Sou. Octopus-based cuisine was a specialty of Kumogakure. It wasn't long however before his senses were going wild. As well as the scroll-sealed-technique worked on the average and elite ninja, it did not do well in masking Sou's presence from someone as sensitive to chakra as Hayate. It also helped that the technique was kind of like a two-way mirror and the pair wouldn't have any trouble distinguishing each other if they looked long enough. Swallowing his last bite he discarded the paper tray in a waste basket and made his way towards Sou.

In appearance he was a hardy man missing one eye- it shut and scarred. He wore the clothes of a sailor and had a golden bandana tied around his head. He attempted to make his voice a bit more gruff and a bit more accented. Speaking his usual public speaking voice would be dangerous after all. "Aye lad, glad you finally made it. Your my ships escort. Can't be too careful with the increase in pirates, can ya?" He'd move to pat the back of the boy, who hopefully by now had been staring long enough to see it was Hayate. With that, they'd need to move to the docks quickly.

Right now the two biggest chakra-sources in the entire fucking village are in one place at the same time. We need to act fast, before the next patrols and sensory waves happen.

"I suggest we put some energy into our steps boy-e, the winds will be bad if we don't set out soon, you savvy?" Hopefully that was enough to prompt Sou to hurry along with him.

Sou glanced back towards the voice that spoke, ready to tell the speaker that he didn't have any mission on any boat, when he had to do a double take. He felt that familiar pulse in the back of his mind that he had come to associate with Konegu trying to force some feeling of annoyance or repulsion through him. Sou slowly nodded to the man, attempting to hide his grin at the ridiculous getup that the Raikage had chosen from himself. "Right you are sir. After you then, shall we?" A cantankerous old pirate. Sou had read stories about pirates as a kid and Hayate looked like he had taken the image from the front cover of one of those books. All he was missing was a peg leg and a parrot on his shoulder.

The freshly minted Jounin set off at a jog when Hayate suggested they put some energy behind their steps. He wasn't wrong. There was no way in hell that their distraction would last long against Banri's spies; hell, any older sensor in the village that happened to use their abilities at the wrong moment could catch them right now. They weren't exactly the subtlest of individuals when it came to chakra signatures.

Sou never had much need for visiting the docks. Every mission he had ever had was within the confines of Lightning Country and it was just easier to travel on foot than it was to bother using a ship. If he thought about it this was going to be a whole lot of firsts for him. The first time he had left the country, the first time on board a ship, the first time he was taking a mission as a Jounin; even if that last one wasn't sanctioned or entirely legal. "So," he muttered while turning to look at Hayate closer, the disguise a mere haze around his true from now. It was disconcerting, to say the least, but useful all the same. "Which one is ours? I hope she's a real beaut." He would have to rely on Hayate to lead them to their ship though, he had no idea which one was meant to be theirs.

Hayate was happy that it didn't take long for Sou to realize who he was after the second glance. No doubt seeing Hayate stirred something deep within the boy... he knew his presence always seemed to cause anger in a certain someone, given his reputation for being the master of chakra and auras in the area.... After the pair took off, he began to hmm silently... something similar to a sea shanty. He wanted to look like a crazy old sailor, not that they'd fool anyone for long. It was known within the council that he was leaving the village in a few days but their current departure was a bit earlier then scheduled, hence the disguises and caution. He was working against Banri after all, not the council or citizens of the village.

It wasn't long before their jog would conclude and they'd reach the docks, filled with many a ships. There were shinning steel barges, tugboats, steamboats, and a variety of fancy ships that carried supplies into the village and out into the country. There were many river-steam-boats being loaded with materials and shinobi to be shipped out to war-torn parts of the LC... and finally, their were the boats of normal folk. Wood fishing ships. Sloops, and other small vessels. Teetering forward slowly Hayate crooked a finger to a rusty-old-shitbucket of a wood and steel boat. There were barnacles all over it and it looked like it had seen a few Raikage in it's time.

"Thas it lad." He said with a cackle. He'd make his way for the gankplank. "Captian!" a man on the boat cried out as he fell into a bow. A few others exited out the onto the deck too greet them.

"Let's set sail at once." he'd say. Nodding to Sou, he'd simply whisper stay in character. "This is... Takahashi. He'll be our ninja tail for the voyage, treat em as one of our own, ye hear?"

Great marvels of sailing technology, gleaming masses of steel that somehow managed to float, others powered by coal and steam, even the small but powerful tugboats that could haul the monstrous-sized freighter ships. And they got something that looked like it was about to fall apart. Sou stopped dead in his tracks, staring at the ship for a solid thirty seconds, completely flabbergasted. The entire wealth of the Raikage at their disposal and they got… this? A rolling chuckle soon turned into a full-blown guffaw of laughter echoed through his mind, the Genma genuinely amused by Sou's reaction to their mode of transportation.

"You have got to be kidding me. We're going to die in that thing. It's going to sink and we're going to die." Shaking his head in a more than slightly forlorn manner, Sou trudged onto the gangplank behind Hayate. There was a cry from someone on the ship, who was quick to fall over himself in a shoddy attempt at a bow towards the Raikage. Who was apparently the captain of this hunk of junk. He half glared at Hayate before straightening up and bowing in return to the… crew.

"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Let me know if there is anything I can do to be of assistance." Takahashi, huh? How very… unoriginal. It went right along with his bland looks. Sou quirked his eyebrow in the direction of the Raikage, somewhat amused by the man's sense of humour. As the ship lurched from the docks, Sou couldn’t help himself. He grinned. It may have been a floating piece of crap, but it was still a ship. New experience number one, check.

"Oi lads, enough of the introduction and off to work, ye?" one of the men shouted. With that, the discussions stopped and the crew set to embark.

The men aboard the ship began to move in a perfectly in-sync rhythm. Like intricate machinery each did their tasks, and when they needed to do something together, they did so in perfect harmony. The silence was a sign the crew had worked together for years. They knew each other well, and each knew the part they played. Before long the waves were crushing against the hull, the ship rocking up and down at the sea's whim. Hayate stepped forward to the bow, prompting for "Takahashi" to join him. "She may be a bucket of bolts, but she's a damn reliant one." Hayate said. Suddenly something peculiar happened. The ship began to hum a little. The entire floor, which had appeared to be painted black, began to glow. It was a fuuinjutsu.

"You see, it's an old war horse, but the crew has invested in her'. We work for ninja after all." The energy spread off the floor and around the boat, becoming more dim as it encompassed them. Before long, the boat was speeding up and it was quickly stabilizing against the waves. "You'll find no smoother ride in the Lightning Seas" he said soon after.

"This ship has done many a things for our village, and in the war. Don't let the crew fool you, they're not your average sailors." Hayate said with a grin.

He had told Sou to stay in character... but the truth was neither of them had to stay in character. These men knew who Hayate was, and they knew he was traveling with a special package. They were smuggles whom Hayate had once guarded on one of his very first missions as a Jounin- and often times they smuggled with a heart. Medical supplies to refugee camps, etc. But, Hayate couldn't resist the fun of forcing the pair to act like idiots for "disguise."

"I trust you have it under control?" he said sharply, changing the topic.

Sou looked down as the boat began to hum to life in a way that he really wasn't expecting. He kneeled and pressed his fingers against the glowing deck, feeling the tingle of chakra run up his hand. Sou had never seen a seal like this one, hell he didn't even know seals could be used for something like this. It was fascinating in a way that seemed to completely absorb his attention, toning out the Raikage for a moment as he attempted to study something that was so far beyond his skill level or even general comprehension.

"How… how is this even working? Sealed Water Release chakra that's affecting the ocean around it maybe? How do you even create a seal on that scale without it overloading?"

'You humans are certainly an ingenuitive species, I shall grant you that. What you lack in power you make up for in other ways.'

Looking back up to the Raikage as he sharply questioned Sou about his control, he stood up with a slight blush on his cheeks at having gotten lost in his own thoughts and ignoring the man. "Yes, sir." There was a certain sense of… calm that was washing over him. It was a feeling he hadn't felt in a long time and he realized that it wasn't coming from him so much as his tenant. For the first time since they had been joined together they were free off the village and its constraints. To a certain extent at least, they still had the Raikage with them, but there was no lingering sensation of being watched and judged and expected to fulfil obligations that he had no idea what they were. He stood a little taller, his back straightening as he stood, but there was a relaxed look to his face and shoulders were once there was always an underlying current of tension.

"So, captain, where exactly are we headed and what's the mission? Aside from guarding the ship, of course."

The boat was magnificent, that was true.

"It's a few extremely high-ranking seals, and sort of. My understanding is that it's one part Suiton, one part augment, and some other jumbly gook that our boys in the Kumo Engineering core cooked up." He paused. "That village does churn out some amazing technology, and part of this ship's mission has been delivering that stuff to other parts of the country. Unification means sharing all the advancements Kumo had.".

Hayate's eyes shifted from every which direction, making sure there was no one in an earshot before he continued. The mission they were carrying out was two-fold. To the village, Banri, and those who knew, the pair would be leaving in a few days for an extended Genma mastering session. To just Sou and Himself, the reason they left early was to further cover their trails... as they rooted out an informant of Banri. At that same point, they'd also continue with their "training" and move through the country doing PR. Clearing his throat he looked off to the horizon. The sun was setting.

"We're tracking an informant- but also doing some PR on our "training" and supporting the unification and repair campaign.

The young man couldn't help but stare at Hayate as he explained exactly what the ship's purpose was. He knew the country had been unified under the man's rule, but Sou didn't realize just how far reaching Hayate's ambitions were. In the past there was no way that a Raikage would dare share the secrets of their village with the outside world, no shinobi would. "I get that it's a ninja-run state now, but is it… safe? Sharing that kind of information and power with people that aren't used to it, I mean." He reached down and touched his stomach, where the primary sealing formula kept the Okigenma at bay was located. He of all people knew the dangers and insecurities of suddenly having access to power you never dreamed possible. It could be overwhelming at times. "Though I suppose they don't have to worry about a voice in the back of their head. Just their own."

Rolling his shoulders, Sou moved over and leant against the railing of the ship, staring out at the sea that they were now completely surrounded by. He took a deep breath and absorbed the smell, closing his eyes and he processed their mission. Going after an informant of Banri's, spreading the word of Kumo to the far reaches of Lightning Country, helping the civilians with their assimilation into the Unified Shinobi State, all while trying to master the use of Konegu's power beyond what he was currently capable of. "We've… got a lot on our plate, huh?" It was more a rhetorical question than anything, but Sou turned and looked at Hayate with a grin. "Good thing I'm here with the strongest man alive. I don't know how we'd handle this by ourselves."

'The same way we handle everything, my container. With a gratuitous amount of violence until those around us realize their place is behind us.'

Sou shook his head with a snort and went back to staring out at the sea, enjoying the view and the atmosphere while ignoring Konegu. He wasn't wrong though. Their usual strategy did usually just devolve into punching whatever their problem was until it wasn't a problem anymore.

Hayate's hand gently slid to his chin, scratching it as he thought about the boys question. People had long been afraid about giving the knowledge and power of the ninja to others. Just as the spirits had been afraid of giving the knowledge and power of chakra to the humans... that was to say people always were afraid of giving power out. The fact of the matter was though it had happened, will happen, and would continue to and it wouldn't change the world.

"No less safe then the shinobi village you grew up in, where anyone in the geographical area of Kumogakure could learn it." he paused. "This is merely an expanse of our village and way of life to everyone else. The checks and balances for those who wish to enter the academies are the same." He understood peoples worries, but it was largely a worry based in fear and not logic. It was similar to immigrants and the often negative response to them places had.

With that, the ship was well en route and the pair would retire to the cabin as the stars fell.
--
Suddenly the whole ship would rock back and forth with tremendous force- and continue with each and every wave pulverizing the hull of the ship. Thunder cracked over-head. New sets of seals began to hum and glow attempting to keep the ship together and safe. Amidst this all, the pair would be sleeping in the Captian's cabin. A few more large waves would begin to drive them out of deep slumber, until finally they'd be in a state were waking was inevitable...

And then a giant screech would pierce the stormy sea-air, followed by screaming from the men on the deck.

Sou remained on deck for a few moments after Hayate had spoken his piece and left them to retire to the cabin. He was enjoying the feeling of being on the open seas, taking in the smell of the salty air and simply ruminating on what the Raikage had said. Bringing the secrets of chakra and ninjutsu to the masses opened so many possible paths, both good and bad. They could make life easier through Ninjutsu, heal the injured and the sick with superior methods, the villagers could defend themselves better if the need ever arose. On the flip side, they were essentially weaponizing an entire country, if there was ever another civil war it would be far more devastating and on a far greater scale, simple disputes could turn quite literally explosive. These people had grown up with stories about ninja and chakra, but they hadn't literally grown up around ninja and chakra. The checks and balances that the Raikage mentioned were there with the knowledge that those of Kumo knew what they were getting into, had a basic understanding of what it meant to wield such a powerful tool.

Letting out a sigh, he ran his fingers through his hair. The Raikage was the Raikage. Even if Sou didn't agree that empowering everyone was the right idea, who was he to say it was the wrong one? It wasn't like he had any better ideas.

'Of course there is a better idea. We are the better idea. If your… Raikage seeks to teach all humans of this country how to wield what is mine, then allow him to do so. It only makes it easier for us to take control of them. You forget, we are the rightful rulers of all chakra. When one of you mortals wields this power, it connects them to us on a fundamental level. And when they are all connected to us, we can bring peace and protection on a scale that may finally show your species what it is to work as a singular organism, as parts of a greater whole.'

Sou rolled his eyes at the Genma's speech, having grown used them, but as he left the deck and headed for the cabin, he felt a niggling in his chest and a chill run down his spine. He paused and turned to look at the horizon and the setting sun, red chakra bubbling up from his hand for a fraction of a second, before he shook his head and ducked into the cabin to get some rest.
Blue-green eyes snapped open at the first sudden rocking of the ship. Sou, not used to travel by sea, was shaken awake immediately. It didn't help that he was a light sleeper these days anyway; too deep a sleep meant his dreams started mixing with Konegu's thoughts. Clambering to his feet, he grabbed his vest and gear, strapping them on as he made his way up to the deck. He managed to just finish getting everything settled when he heard the shriek.

"You have got to be kidding me."

The initial wave nearly woke Hayate... but for someone who had sailed many times and had become quite the log-sleeper in his age, he didn't exactly wake. He rolled over a little, muttered, and stayed just on the verge of waking up. The screeches eventually came and he stirred a little but still seemed content to sleep.
When Sou arrived on Deck, he would find himself pinned down by ferocious winds and equally powerful rain. Each drop would feel like baseballs falling on him. He would also find himself arriving just in time for a lightning bolt to illuminate the entire night sky for just a brief moment... and in that moment it would be just enough time to catch a glimpse of a massive tentacle easily as girthy as the entire ship begin it's descent... it's slam... towards the ship's deck.. Some giant... thing was attacking them.

The blond lifted an arm to cover his head as best he could from the pelting rain, applying chakra to his feet so that he wouldn't get torn from the deck of the ship by the severe storm raging around them. The sky brightened for a moment, drawing his attention up towards the bolt of lightning and the crack of thunder that followed. His eyes widened when he saw what was coming straight towards them, and suddenly he had an idea as to just what had made that horrific screech just a moment ago.

'Konegu!'

A pulse of energy raced through him, ancient and powerful and filled with emotion, a desire to protect. Sou leapt forward, feet leaving the safety of the deck but leaving a glowing trail of red in their wake. A fraction of second passed before in Sou's place was no longer an unassuming Jounin of Kumo but a demon of red spikes and bone white skin, a roiling, bubbling mass of blood red chakra surrounding it. Two giant arms reached forward in an attempt to catch the incoming tentacle that threatened to break the small ship in two, while his chakra spread to absorb any of the sailors still on deck into its protective warmth.

Hayate continued to slumber, though he was far from a deep sleep now he wasn't going to be waking up anytime soon, that much was certain.
The aura would cover the deck of the ship and the young man in barely enough time, the tentacle whaling down onto the chakra which now protected the men, Sou, and the ship. Just as quickly as it fell upon the ship, another tentacle would come smashing forth for it as the previously repelled one rose back into the air to strike again. Another weird shriek filled the air. The ship was beginning to sway more violently, as if something was directly beneath it... The men on the deck were horrified, and also shocked at what had just happened.

They didn't recognize the Okigenma truly, and luckily since Sou had been introduced as a Shinobi, they weren't surprised by his chakra magic. "Damn lucky we took a ninjer!" one of the men shouted. They quickly began to move towards canons which began to hum with the feint sounds of electricity. Moments latter massive lightning bolts were being hurled from the canons at the tentacled-monster. It rocked back, both tentacles disappearing before the water as the beast cried out a shrill tone. The shrill tone suddenly became something more akin to an angry fog-horn. And then the ship was hit from below, the ship itself actually rocketing up into the air to reveal a giant octopus like monster that had been hiding beneath it. Now at least 4 tentacles were outstretched and going into the air to no doubt catch the ship and crush it to pieces.

Seemed the electro-canons were having little effect.

"We need more fire power!'" a deck hand cried out. They continued to fire the lightning rounds but seemingly it had no effect, and the beast only seemed to crackle with electricity and moan.

A crack like thunder echoed through the night when the tentacle slammed down on the outer shell of his aura, making Sou wince despite not actually feeling the physical impact, the shockwave was enough. He doubted his aura could handle tanking more than a few shots when he saw the second one tentacle rise. Swearing up a storm, Sou reached deeper into his seal and drew up more of Konegu's power, expanding his aura and shaping the new chakra into a set of arms that quickly reached out to grab the new tentacle.

And then the world exploded.

Sou had flown before. Under his own power. Hell, he had been thrown through the sky from explosives being detonated right next to him. He had never been sent directly up into the sky by a giant sea monster. He quickly decided it wasn't an experience he enjoyed. Four tentacles rose up to crush the airborne ship and Sou almost cried when he realized he had grown four arms. He could stop the attack in its tracks or he could try to keep the ship from plummeting back into the ocean and into the belly of the beast.

'Let me take over.'

'… Do it.'

The arms shot out of their own accord, each reaching for a separate tentacle, while the feet of the aura stretched downwards to wrap around the ship itself in a strange attempt to grab it and hold it aloft, using the tentacles to try and keep from plummeting down too fast. Meanwhile Sou himself began performing hand seals and gathering chakra into his mouth, preparing to turn this octopus into sushi.

[PlotBoard] Departure

The octopian beast that was attacking them was intelligent, however it wasn't quite a match for the quick thinking of humans. The boat never came right back down and instead was falling slowly, some strange arms gripping it's own tentacles. The beast couldn't quite comprehend what was happening, but it was becoming impatient that it's prey wasn't going down. Especially since it was the king of the ocean. Screeching more it switched from delivering all of it's tentacles to the ship and around it to crush it, to instead pulling all it's tentacles as far a part as it could. The ship was tethered to them, but the beast figured it's range was much greater than whatever was holding onto it's tentacles was.

Hmph.

Meanwhile the men continued to volley the beast with the electro-canons, to no effect. The beast continued to just grow, the feint humming of electricity becoming stronger. "It's not working!" one of the men from the deck screamed out.
Hayate was still fast asleep, though the latest sudden movement of the ship being thrown into the sky had caused him to stir a bit. He was a legendary sleeper, but that was a bit much. He opened his eyes for a moment, then closed them again. He would have kept sleeping except a massive surge of chakra suddenly triggered his senses. Jolting out of bed his mouth was formed in the shape of "Ko-" but he never quite finished the "negu". He made his way to the deck.

The constant barrage of lightning from the cannons of the ship took Sou by surprise, though less than it would have if he hadn't seen the glowing deck of Fuuinjutsu earlier in the trip. What did surprise him was the complete lack of effectiveness the blasts were having against whatever the hell this creature was. "If those things are using ammunition, stop bloody wasting it!" He wondered if his voice would reach the group below but he had to try. Even as he spoke he felt the strain on his aura begin to grow as the tentacles began to pull apart. Muttering a few choice curses, he finished his hand seals and gathered the wind chakra around his hands, barely visible blades appearing.

'Take these, would you? I'm going deeper.'

'How exciting.'

Two of the hand let go of each tentacle, causing the aura to swing on an axis, and Konegu used that propulsion to throw the boat out of the direction of the beast's head down below. At the same time the two large hands reached into the aura and touched Sou's hands, the wind chakra passing from the human to the shroud, causing the blades to extend a little further. The arms shifted through the length of chakra that made up the third and fourth arms before reappearing from the wrists, one on either arm, and the wind blades extended down in an attempt to slice clean through the tentacles.

All the while Sou himself was pouring more and more chakra from the seal into the shroud, his skin growing whiter and a visor of solid white chakra appearing over his eyes as he became more and more demon-like. The process was accompanied by a giant pair of bat like wings emerging from the back of the aura, slowing their descent but with the weight of the ship they had no chance of taking to actual flight.

The men continued their onslaught of electrical blasts up until the moment the shinobi told them to stop. At first, they paused, almost annoyed by the outsider telling them how to run their ship... however they soon after followed the order when the Captain (Hayate) emerged from beneath the deck and confirmed it. He marched forward slightly, hobbling, and looked up to the sky and to the scene around him. He was relieved to see his senses weren't exactly on the mark and Konegu wasn't rampaging. On the other hand it was unfortunate that the ship was getting had by an octopian nightmarish monster. He let out a deep breath than marched out further.

"Don't use the canons. He's absorbin the energy ya see?" he barked. He continued towards Sou, and then to the bow of the ship. The captain rolled up his sleeves and tightened the bandana on his head. And then in a swaying motion moved to the edge of the deck. The crewmen nodded to him. He'd let Sou handle the ship's defense and assault.

"I'm going in." He jumped off the edge and began hurdling towards the water. They all knew who he was- he had nothing to hide. The second he'd hit the water he'd begin to push all of his chakra into it as he swam around, filling the water in every which way with his chakra.

It seemed the beast had taken the energy hurled at it and was releasing it like a shield around himself. Meanwhile, the boat was slowing slightly in it's descent. Now a lot more pissed off, the creature would shriek and swing six tentacles towards the boat meaning to crush it from different spots.

Seeing his blade battered away with continuous blasts of electricity, Sou was tempted to scream in frustration but knew better than to give in to his baser urges. The boost of energy that came with accessing Konegu's chakra was enough to let him use some seriously powerful techniques back to back but he was already feeling the strain. He couldn't make the aura any bigger and any alterations would be small and temporary at best. The giant wings beat a few times and he did his best to guide the ship down to a point where it wasn't in immediate danger of being swallowed by the beast but the tentacles coming down from above were just as dangerous.

'Take more of my power. We need to make the aura larger if you intend to protect everyone here.'

'I've never taken that much chakra at once. I won't be able to come back from that.'

Sou blinked and all of a sudden he was in his mindscape, eternal darkness around him and standing on an invisible platform. Konegu's huge form was bound to its alter as always, though the chains were slack around his arms and legs, and the bident that was normally kept from him was in his hands. The beast leaned down until it was at eye level with Sou, giant visor boring into Sou's blue-green eyes.

"You have impressed me of late, Nukegara Sou. You still deny me at every turn, true enough, but I can feel your resolve. You are beginning to understand. Truly understand. Our place as the Phantom Beast of Hell is as ruler of all chakra, it's protector. Being a protector isn't about doing what is nice or what is liked. It is about doing what is necessary, even if at the time it seems severe." The beast leaned back and reached down with its bident, the two points touching his forehead and his heart. "So, just this once, I will work with you instead of against you. I will allow you to see what it is to truly wield my power. Together we will do what is necessary."

Sou felt something shift within him and when he looked down he saw a glowing red orb on his chest, beating in time with his heart beast. A closer look found that it was actually his heart, pulsating blood red chakra, forming a protective orb as his body morphed and twisted until it became a miniature replica of that of Konegu's.

"GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

In the physical realm the bright red Aura that surrounded Sou and the ship pulsed before a wave of power erupted from the Jounin suspended in the middle of it. The aura began to expand suddenly, the wings folding to absorb two of the tentacles and the four arms each reaching out for a tentacle each, all of which larger and more durable than they had been a moment ago. And in the middle of it all was a white-skinned barbed demon, radiating blood red power.

[PlotBoard] Departure

Hayate had been bouncing around the water like a torpedo, his chakra flowing into all the water as his body danced around, mostly unnoticed by the beast. He was like a mosquito to an elephant after all. He noticed the energy around Sou surging more than ever before however, and it worried him. We resurfaced and did his best to look up through the storm, but alas the boats position prevented him from seeing anything. Despite the cries of a full Konegu, it didn't seem anything was getting destroyed on their side yet.... on the other hand it seemed the tentacles had been blocked, and now grabbed and stopped.

Did... is he doing it full?

Hayate was intrigued. Ducking back into the water his body danced in the waves, weaving his way into a jutsu. Before long, 8 massive arms would shoot out of the ocean, all hands formed in a circle and attempt to catch the ship. If he had timed it right, they would catch it just right. Wasting no time however moments after that jutsu was formed, Hayate began to move his body again in a circular motion. Waves spiraled around him into torrents and before long he was shot out of the ocean and into the air, massive waves dwarfing the ship and even Sou in size were around his body and behind him. Like a damn Ocean god.

He'd use everything he'd have to then kinesis the arms and the waves to take the ship and rush it over the beast and to the side. He needed it out of the way so they could take the beast out.

The beast was surprised when it felt it's tentacles being resisted. It pushed harder, and harder, the electricity in it's body completely surging out and coating it. It's tentacle's suckers began to... spin, like hundreds of mini buzz-saws as it tried to grip free of Sou... and the, the final two tentacles came pummeling up from under water. Sou was completely occupying it's attention and preventing it from stopping Hayate's rescue. It was merely worried about it's own survival at this point.

Sou's head snapped around, despite the fact that no eyes were visible on his face any longer, as he 'saw' the two remaining tentacles come flying free of the ocean below. What surprised him more was the eight other tentacles actually made of the ocean itself rising to catch the ship; his wings had been occupied by the tentacles and their descent had rapidly increased in speed. The hands of water shifted the boat out of the direct path of the battle, letting Sou rise up into the air, finally free to move to his heart's content. He willed more chakra into the shroud and from each of the four hands a long sword grew, two of which were quickly coated in the buzz saw like wind-chakra of his Vacuum Blades.

His aura was forced to let go of the tentacles or be shredded to pieces by the lightning-enhanced spinning suckers which, if Sou was in his right mind, would have creeped him out. Instead all it did was remind Sou of an old Taijutsu technique. His wings flapped and launched him out of the path of the eight tentacles as a giant wave came rising up, Hayate riding it like he was a Spirit of the ocean itself, and Sou saw his opening when the arms and the giant wave came crashing down, forcing the boat out of the way.

Giant wings flapping a few times to give him speed, Sou's aura began to mimic his motions as he himself tucked into a tight ball and guided the aura forward, the arms spinning like a child's toy as they made for the nearest tentacles, aiming to finally turn this octopus into a nice sushi dinner. One strike of his wind blades hadn't worked, perhaps a few hundred would.

This allows him to spin rapidly in mid-air and strike with his weapon. The sheer speed and skill associated with this technique causes the successive strikes to occur with such a small interval between them that they appear simultaneous to any with a Taijutsu+Instinct/2 lower than Sou's own Taijutsu+Speed/2. This technique may strike a number of times equal to Sou's Speed/4 in a single post.

The ship successfully made it's way to safety. Confirming that, Hayate went to work as he rocketed into the water looking for the head of the beast. He'd seen it's beak occasionally rise from the ocean but since Sou's transformation it seemed to be hiding it's head. Meanwhile, all the tentacles were moving in fear, circling Sou. Before long, the beast and boy had launched himself like some kind of giant canon-ball of death. Spinning and cutting. The first few cuts did nothing, the first twenty, but eventually he was beginning to draw blood. The beast shrieked more. And in anger, it swung 7 of it's tentacles in ward attempting to catch and completely ball around and crush Sou. It was very, very mad. It hoped either it's suction hooks would destroy him, or it's crushing force.

The other tentacle however was quick retreating back to the body and for Hayate, who found himself zooming to fast, with too much momentum to stop, quickly right into him. Hayate hit it and bounced off it into the sea, his whole body aching as electricity went through it and blood poured out his body. For a moment things went to black... and his body began regenerating as he floated back up to the surface.

This octopus was tough.

What the hell kind of hide did this thing have? It was like trying to cut into rubber. Slash after slash did next to nothing and even when he did finally manage to break through the skin all he managed to do was piss it off. How was he meant to stop something that could withstand an assault like that? With all seven of the remaining tentacles bashing against the outer shell of his aura, Sou was left with few options. He could barely get through it's thick hide with slashing attacks and while he could try and grapple with it, he wasn't sure how long he could hold out against a force like that on his own. He had no idea where Hayate had disappeared too either.

He had no idea if what he was about to do may just endanger everything further, but he just had to hope it did… something. Anything. He drew his arms and wings in close, using them to guard the main body of his aura as best he could. Six limbs versus seven left one open, and two of which were the only things really keeping him aloft, so it was some tight manoeuvring while Sou began to weave a set of hand seals, drawing wind-natured chakra into his lungs once more. He followed the trajectory of each of the tentacles back down to the surface of the ocean; the octopus hadn't shown its beaked face for a while but its body had to be around where the tentacles converged.

Aiming for that point, Sou exhaled the compressed bullet of wind and hoped that the resulting explosion would do some damage or at least reveal the main body. He had to find a weak point and these tentacles were definitely not it.

As Sou shifted his attention from the thick, powerful tentacles and began to move towards the center, something happened. The Octopus did it's best to pull all it's tentacles as fast as it could back into the water, and the water itself seemed to stir as it attempted to dive deep. It seemed the Air Bullet he had sent wouldn't be able to hit anything, but it would reveal that the octopus was very, very afraid of letting it's body get hit. Beneath the waves, Hayate was regaining consciousness, his cuts healing, albeit burning a bit thanks to the water.

The Octopus diving created a pressure and force that began to pull him right down under the water, and under the octopus. He was also running out of breath. His body glowing his jutsu soon removed the need to breathe. An electric aura suddenly sprang to life around him, beneath the water. The salt water caused the electricity to carry out slightly about him, dispersing it into the water and lightning up everything around him to the point where Sou would probably be able to locate him.

He was getting annoyed now. He'd search for the eyes, or something soft.

The giant wings of Sou's enlarged aura flapped a few times to steady himself as the tentacles suddenly shrank back down in an attempt to protect the main body of the beast below. His eyes narrowed; it was afraid of being damaged. The resulting explosion in the water was enough to give him a rough idea of which way it had gone and the sudden lightshow told him that Hayate was finally awake and doing something.

'Move quickly, my container. In this form my chakra is toxic and without the proper training and time to adjust, that includes to you. I can keep your body from being infected but only for so long, eventually your chakra will run out and all that will be left is mine.'

'Would have been nice to know before we entered this state. Doesn't matter now, we need to find a way to attack the main body. Will the outer shell hold out the ocean?'

'Yes, but you humans still need to breath, and I cannot create oxygen.'

'Yeah, well, it's a good thing I can.'

The wings surged, sending Sou plummeting down towards the ocean while he made a few hand seals and exhaled. The air, rather than just dispersing, swirled around his face like a miniature tornado before suddenly settling into a green-tinted orb of oxygenated air that would let him keep breathing under the surface of the ocean. Konegu directed the four arms, each wielding a sword, to come in front of the aura and pointed each of the swords' tips to one another, creating a giant spear that carved a path through the ocean.

As soon as he saw the octopus the aura would swell forward, launching two of the swords forward in an attempt to skewer it while also using that as a distraction to try and grab onto some part of it. If he connected, the aura would drag itself closer to try and get a few good swings with its two remaining swords.

As Hayate watched Sou fight he could only smile. The boy was brilliant- an artist with the aura and the blade. Their fighting was instinctual, and though they were often opposing each other in ideology they seemed to be a very good team when put to the test. It seemed that, as he had imagined, the worst thing for Jinchuuriki was cages. Akino's notes on Jinchuuriki had noted that he believed Freedom made for better jinchuuriki, as referenced by the last host of the Aura. It was because Freedom allowed them to experience, and for the host and jinchuuriki to have situations in which they both needed to pull together, meant they'd bond... having experiences together after all made bonds... Had Sou not been here, he certainly would have never had a chance for an experience like this. He bit his lip though.

If we kill a giant ocean monster it'll be pretty obvious we might of been here. We can't kill it. And hey, maybe we should leave him here to guard this passage, after all this is not a usual way for ships to go.

He began to weaken and strengthen his cloak, his kinesis controlling it to create flashes of light in the water that would make it's way to Sou. Hopefully he picked up on the message.

N-O-K-I-L-L

H-O-L-D

I-S-H-O-C-K-S-O-F-T

If Sou got his message and was able to create an opening, he'd give the damn thing one hell of a shock to it's little brain sack.

He began to charge up his chakra in his body.

Just as he grabbed onto the octopus and was dragging himself in for a follow up series of slashes, a flashing in the corner of his eye drew Sou's attention from the battle. He lifted a wing to guard himself from the tentacles that took advantage of his distraction and let Konegu take full control of the aura for the moment. The light was bursting over and over in seemingly random flashes, some long, others short.

'Wait a sec… that's hold! N… O… K… I… L… L. Nokill? No kill? What!?'

He watched the rest of the message that he could only assume was the Raikage trying to tell him that he didn't want the octopus that had tried to destroy their ship and eat them alive dead. For some reason. Maybe it was another of his weird pets? Or maybe he just wanted to make it into another pet. Weird giant turtle with a healing stomach and now a giant octopus that could apparently absorb lightning. Hell, he wouldn't put it past Hayate to do exactly that. Shaking his head, he turned his attention back to the aura and Konegu.

We're going to need more arms. Lord Raikage wants us to hold it down instead of turning it into sushi.'

Bringing his hands together, Sou drew enough chakra from the seal and into the aura that another two arms grew, adding to the collected to bring the total to six. Panting, he repeated the process once more so that he had eight arms, all capable of moving and growing freely once they had been created. His arms and hands twitched as the pain of using too much chakra began to take its toll on his body.

'Keep using chakra like that and it only accelerates the degradation. Any further use of chakra will cancel out that form immediately… that or my chakra will begin to kill you.'

'I didn't know you cared… Heh. It's fine. This should be enough… grab the tentacles… give Lord Raikage an opening… Please.'

'Tch. I swore I would do what is necessary… Helping the thief though…'

There was a fraction of a second where Sou felt the hesitation in the aura before suddenly the last remaining swords were thrown about, distracting the octopus, while each of the arms suddenly shot out from their place hidden in the body of the giant Konegu shaped shroud. With each of the eight tentacles in hand, the arm's retracted into the aura, forcing them together, and exposing the main body to whatever it was Hayate was going to do. It had to be fast though, Sou could feel his chakra beginning to fade and the aura along with it.

Hayate had begun to swim closer to the surface after his message, and after channeling his technique he released it. Lightning shot up out of the water and into the sky, disappearing as a silence filed the air for moment. Then using all the force he could muster and kinesising his cloak in the process he launched a Kunai high into the air. This was going to shock them a bit but with their auras and his kinesis directing it further, it'd minimize the damage. His eyes peering back into the ocean it had appeared Sou had successfully restrained the Octopus. Since Sou was holding the tentacles of the octopus- which were insulating it against electricity... Most likely Sou wouldn't be shielded, almost grounded so to speak.

Good job.

Moments later massive bolts of lightning came flying down from the sky towards the kunai, one after another. As each bolt fell, Hayate grabbed it out of the air, his arms twriling and spinning as he redirected each one towards the now exposed and restrained octopi. The bolts of lightning hit his cranium, lighting him up and his body. He spun out of control his body spasming as he wanted to break free but Hayate kept drilling the lightning at him. It was true he seemed capable of absorbing lightning, but at some point it was too much... And lightning this powerful had more than just it's energy.

It could paralyze on touch.

Slowly the Octopi began going limp. It was paralyzed... but then, it moved for just a moment... and it's electricity released from it's body.

Shit!

Hayate did his best to try and use his kinesis to grab hold of most the electricity and redirect it out of the water and back into the sky. Hopefully Sou would do something to protect himself.

Raiton • Lightning Contagion
[/i]S-Rank Ninjutsu[/i]
Channeling chakra into his fingertip, Hayate will aim his index finger pointing up into the sky, unleashing an arc of lightning up into it. This arc of lightning will cause the atmosphere to quickly react and become super charged, releasing lightning down in a 75m radius from the technique's point of origin for 6 posts. This chakra effected lightning falls at a speed of 40, but only has 10 strength. Every posts four lightning bolts will fall towards the highest metal point in the effected area.

It was working. He couldn't believe it was actually working. He had a good grip on the tentacles and his aura was the strongest it had ever been. The octopus was firmly locked into place and he saw Hayate's own lightning shroud fade for a moment before a bright light illuminated the sky above, muted through the ocean but still visible. The crazy bastard was summoning an entire lightning storm down on this thing.

… With him attached.

Seriously, he was beginning to wonder if Hayate just had a fetish for beating him up.

He grit his teeth, bracing for the first bolt, and when it drove through the water and into the octopus, Sou was surprisingly unharmed. He felt a slight tingle run through his arms and spine from the energy that was discharged through the salt water before it struck its target but it was concentrated Raiton, not true lightning, and it was guided by a man who could manipulate Raiton with a thought.

This wasn't so bad.

Strike after strike slammed into the octopus until finally it seemed it could absorb no more and went rigid. The giant arms of his aura let go and retreated back to the main body, the enormous wings flapping, guiding him through the water as easily as if it were air. The ocean went dark once more and Sou let out a sigh, ready to finally release his hold over Konegu's chakra, when the octopus suddenly flared with the same bright light that had just struck it.

'Oh you fu-'

Six arms and two wings shifted in front of the aura, trying to defend himself against the burst of the lightning. It had sustained damage already over the course of the brawl and Sou hadn't thought to add any extra chakra in order to repair the damage. The wings shattered into a bubbling red mass one, dissipating into the ocean, followed by the arms, one after another, until all that was left was Konegu's torso. He used the time bought by the shroud to use the last of his chakra, thrusting his arm forward.

The shroud shattered as another bubbling red arm of chakra grew from Sou's own, stretching and shaping into a shield, absorbing the final blasts of the lightning before they could hit him. His scream was swallowed by the ocean as he felt the toxic nature of Konegu's power begin to turn on him. It wasn't just blood red chakra anymore, small globules of his own blood mixed with the shield as his arm started to turn red instead of white as the transformation receded and the poison set in. As the world went black, he heard one last thought.

'I warned you.'

When the flash succeeded and Hayate's eyes readjusted, he was floating in the water a bit away from Sou and the now incapacitated octopi. His own aura was damaged and rebuilding, and his body beneath it regenerating the skin in a few areas where it had been burned. He had done a risky move, but he had been entirely confident that Sou could handle it. Beyond that, he wanted Sou to become more use to the stress and tempo of high level combat... This mission was still to some degree a training day for the jinchuuriki.

Flutter kicking his way towards Sou, who was battered up and really just a disembodied torso of the Genma at this point, Hayate dove in and pulled apart the remaining cloak, peeling out Sou and grabbing him. Biting his thumb and releasing a little blood into the water, Hayate then summoned the Island Turtle.

"Hayate-boy, oh? This cunt?" The foul mouth turtle turned to face the octopi. Apparently they were acquainted. "Wait, you know him?"

"Of course we went to sea monster school together. No, the fuck I know him idiot." the turtle snapped back... Appropriately for being a snapping turtle. " IN that case... Tail the ship while he recuperates inside of you."

With that, the ship would continue the journey and the pair would be onto their next leg.
