A monk and a rebel

Post by Diatenshi » Sat Jun 20, 2020 10:07 pm

Rows of empty seats and desk. A window, open letting in a cool breeze and the natural symphony of singing birds. The chalk board was covered in notes on elemental affinities. And the only person in the room was still as a status meditating on top of the teachers desk. Shizuka was waiting for a particular genin. The boy had started to fall behind the other students due to his rebellious habits as of late. What was it with Jinrai and rebellious natures? Was it the clan itself causing the youngsters to revolt? He meditated on these thoughts quietly to himself as he Chanted quietly in a soft baritone as if on autopilot.

"Thus I have heard. At one time the Buddha dwelt at Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, in the Garden of the Benefactor of Orphans and the Solitary, together with a gathering of great Bhikshus, twelve hundred fifty in all, all great Arhats whom the assembly knew and recognized: elders Shariputra, Mahamaudgalyayana, Mahakashyapa, Mahakatyayana, Mahakaushthila, Revata, Shuddhipanthaka, Nanda, Ananda, Rahula, Gavampati, Pindola Bharadvaja, Kalodayin, Mahakapphina, Vakkula, Aniruddha, and others such as these, all great disciples."

He was repeating a common sutra of the Shinkizou Family. The sutras themselves were no secret and were spoken by many buddhist sects. The way they were utilized was the Shunkizou's secret and thus he had no concern towards being over heard. Despite his eyes being closed and his chanting the young teacher was relatively still aware of his surroundings listening to the birds sing.

Saburo was heading back to the Academy, again, for a one on one tutoring session. It was annoying but this wasn't the first time he'd had to have gone through with something like this. He sighed to himself as he arrived at the Academy in Kumo and proceeding through the doors began to look for the classroom to meet his instructor of which he wasn't told much of. Probably just another chuunin instructor who would talk to Sabu about study and notes and all the usual recycled trash, it was a bore more than anything.

Saburo walked down the hall, hands in his pockets as his head moved left to right as he scanned each sign for the correct room number until after several minutes of slow searching, he found it and slid the door open. The student blinked as he saw inside the classroom, it was empty which was to be expected all apart from the instructor who was meditating on the desk. His mouth was moving but Saburo couldn't make out what he was saying as soon a more puzzled look crossed Sabu's face, why was this monk here? Surely he wasn't a shinobi ... Was he? His eyes moved to the board where various notes on elemental affinities had been written on it. Was it from this guy? Sabu was confused, to say the least, but this was the classroom he was meant to be in.

Unsure of how to proceed with this turn of events, Sabu stepped in and closed the door behind him and a for a moment just stared at the monk on the desk. Saburo shuffled a little before sighing and speaking up, "Uh ... Hi there, are you the instructor?" He finished and stood a bit awkwardly, still skeptical of this monk before him.

At first Shizuka would not reply. Most knew it was impolite to interrupt a meditating monk. The boy didn't even wait for him to pause his chant which he would've done so at the end of his sentence. No the boy was clearly eager to be done with the tutoring session. So he let the boy's words hang there in the silence as he regulated his breathing.

"Take a seat Jinrai Saburo."

The monk spoke out softly, though he didn't open his eyes to look at him. He simply assumed the boy was the one he was told to tutor. Why else would he be there afterall classes had ended earlier that day and it was much later in the evening. The tutor session was planned such as a punshiment but also as a deterrent from slacking in classes. Fall behind, we take away from your personal time type thing.

Taking a deep breath in to exit his meditation he finally opened his lavender colored eyes and looked at the young man before him. He certainly appeared more low-key than many of the Jinrai he had met. The clothing style itself was less fancy though it did have some embroidery on it.

"Amitabha. You have been falling behind in your studies. Why? Your file indicates a strong desire to be shinobi. Have you lost motivation now that the goal has been achieved?"

Saburo would stand awkwardly as the monk didn't respond, creating this awkward silence that now lingered between them. Eventually, the monk spoke and somewhat hesitantly, Saburo obliged and sat down at a desk at the front. The monk's eyes were still closed as he breathed whilst still sitting on the desk. Saburo wasn't sure what to expect with this guy and so he sat in silence until the monk opened his eyes and looked at him and spoke.

Saburo listened and a look of guilt soon washed over him as he sighed, it was one of these lessons. This wasn't the first time Saburo had come to an after-class session and it quite possibly would not be the last, at least for some time. The teen rubbed his head a little before replying, "I want to be a shinobi, yes. I suppose you could say that I don't really feel like I'm any different than before I graduated."

The young shinobi sighed again, "So what is your name then, I rarely if at all get told of who the instructor will be in these sessions."
