[Mission] Damsel in Distress

The night sky was blank. This wasn't much of a surprise; there was little moisture in the wastelands of Rock Country that could be used to form clouds. Instead, the moon sat in the sky with her entourage of stars, all of them letting their light trickle to the barren earth. The air was cool and dry, with a light breeze dusting across the empty plains. Aside from the occasional pebble jostled around by an exceptionally strong gust, it was silent--until the voice of a young woman rang out.

Arietta sprinted across the landscape, nimble and clever in her use of the rocky terrain to her advantage. Her cry was fearful, and rightfully so; the unnerving sound of quick, pattering steps could be heard once the spirit fell silent. She was being pursued by a massive reptilian beast, a lizard of gargantuan proportions! Who can save her?!

If you listened close enough, you'd probably hear a small growl coming from Altair. He'd heard the cry loud and clear, and not wasted even a second getting to it's source. The Genin stood at a short distance from the girl and the strange reptile. Usually his face had no emotion to it, yet tonight it definitely had a more prominent scowl etched into the facial features. "Ronan." He whispered, hoping to get his partner's attention. Altair looked back at him to see if he'd seen the girl as well. After this, the boy took off heading straight at the reptile in an all-out sprint. His steel-clawed gauntlet ready to strike, and his combat knife in his left hand ready to slash.

Surprised and a bit disturbed by the sudden appearance of a ninja, Arietta yelped and darted around him. She continued her graceful dash, bounding like a gazelle across the steppes of Rock Country. Once she felt that she was a safe distance away (50 yards or so from the lizard and the ninja), however, she stopped and looked on.

As it ran on its hind legs, the lizard-beast raised its front arms to slash at the spirit it had been chasing. Like a velociraptor, it would have torn her to shreds, but the arrival of a new human interrupted it. The reptilian monster was much more clever than expected; instead of mindlessly attacking like one would think an animal should, it ducked once Altair was close enough, avoiding any strikes from his fearsome weaponry, and gave him a sharp headbutt to the gut, which would likely throw him back a few feet.

((My bad for not really explained what the lizard thing looked like. Sorry about that. Because I don't really wanna bother going into detail, it looks like a velociraptor.))

"I know" Ronan said. He too had heard the scream and noticed the girl running away from the reptile creature. Although he really didn't want to go into battle against this thing, he couldn't ignore a person who needed help. As Altair charged the reptile, Ronan was not far behind him. This is odd, Ronan thought as he followed his fellow genin toward the girl and the reptile, Altair never acts like this. As they closed in on the beast, Ronan began to focus chakra onto his arms. All of the sudden a small crystal blade formed on both of her arms. If they were going to charge into battle against this thing, he was going to be prepare himself.

Soon they had closed in on the girl and the reptile. Actually the girl had run by them, probably to seek some kind of safety a little further away. Now their main concern was the lizard-like thing. It seemed smarter than you would think. It stopped itself mid attack and instead seemed to be trying to dodge. It seemed to be focusing on Altair more than Ronan so he decided to use that to his advantage. After forming a few hand seals, multiple senbon formed in Ronan's hands which he threw towards the creatures lower body while running towards it. Shortly after throwing the senbon, he jumped in the air trying to slash the reptile with one of the blades on his arms.

~Suishō Tō [Jade Crystal Blade]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu

This technique is used by Ronan. He can quickly form a blade made of crystal on his arm, and use it almost similar to how a ninja would use a Tanto. Blades can be formed on both arms if needed. This is achieved by simply focusing chakra onto the selected arm and the blade of crystal is created. This lasts for three posts.

~Hari Senbon [Crystal Senbon Jutsu]
C-Ranked Ninjutsu

Ronan creates little, skinny, sharp crystals that the user throws at the opponent. By making a handseal or two, the crystal needles appear in the user's hand read to throw. These are created in packs of ten each. This jutsu can be used up to three times in one post.

Altair missed with his first slash from his knife. In a quick retaliation to dodge the incoming headbutt, the boy whipped around to its side just as the creature thrust it's head out. The Genin then used his clawed-gauntlet on his right hand to swipe at the creature's rib cage. Altair's eyes caught Ronan's jutsu just as his arm moved. As long as he's going to fight to help her, I'm not letting this thing touch the girl. If you were close enough, you could hear a low, deep growl emanating from Altair's throat.

Because Altair had stepped to the side, the lizard's headbutt missed, and it kept moving forward in its crouched position, tripping over itself. Because it fell, the swipe of the gauntlet and the slash of the sword missed; the two Genin would be likely to collide into each other because of how they had both attacked and missed in tandem. Unfortunately for the reptile, Ronan's Crystal Needles struck it along its back, earning some pained screeches.

Scrambling back to its feet, the bipedal lizard scanned the steppes for its previous prey. Upon catching sight of Arietta, it broke into a full-out sprint for the shy young lady. She hadn't been expecting it to escape from the two ninja, and wouldn't be able to run away without it catching her. And at the speed the beast could move, it wouldn't be a surprise if they couldn't catch it either...

(OOC: Sorry for being late)

As the reptile fell over Ronan noticed that his attack was now aimed at Altair . He attempted to spin out of the way but because he had jumped into the attack it was very unlikely. Instead one of his blades collided with Altair's gauntlet and shattered as Ronan fell to the ground. As he stood up, he noticed that the reptile was once again on the move, trying to attack the girl. Man that thing is fast, he thought. "Altair we have to hurry. For some reason that thing wants the girl." he shouted as he ran after the beast, having a tough time catching up as it was really fast.

Altair paid little attention to the shattered crystal that Ronan had, he only took off after the lizard right before his partner did. I'm not letting that thing touch her! It's not going to happen! Altair's emotions seemed to just heighten every second, far from what he was ever like. The boy's speed kept him ahead of Ronan and closer to the lizard every second. Drawing a pair of shuriken, Altair threw them at his enemy before lunging forward at his absolute fastest.

The Genin leaned forward until he head and body was about the same height as the beast's thigh. Altair quickly gained on its tail again. He drew his knife again and held it across his chest, as he saw his chance, the boy cut in a horizontal fashion that would bring the knife to the front of the lizard's knee. When the lizard stepped forward again, that leg would run directly into the knife, paired with Altair's slashing movements it should have enough power to at least injure the leg greatly. The boy was still, technically, behind the beast. His head only came to about the lizard's rear, this kept him away from the lizard's eyes and gave him the stealth he needed to do this.

The shuriken hit the beast, but its tough scaly skin prevented them from doing any serious damage. Unfortunately for Altair, it would be nearly impossible to get close enough to get a knife right in front of the lizard's leg without being stricken by its powerful tail, which moved naturally as the lizard ran. Even though he was hit with such a blow, however, Altair's efforts did succeed, in that the reptile was no longer focused on Arietta; it turn around and lunged towards Altair, who was likely recovering from the tail-whip... No attention was paid to Ronan, though...

Altair was by far faster than Ronan. When Altair had gone into an all out sprint, Ronan began to perform hand seals while he was running. As he put his left hand on his right arm, crystals began to form around his right hand and soon a small spear like crystal had formed around it. Ronan was still charging when the lizard beast turned it's attention on Altair and therefore had slowed down enough for Ronan to catch up. The beast didn't seem to see him approaching from the side or if he did, he didn't react to it right away. "You back away from him!" Ronan shouted as he lunged towards the beast from what he assumed to be it's blind side with his spear out in front of him, attempting to stab through it.

~Suishou Yari [Crystal Spear Jutsu]
C-Ranked Ninjtusu

This jutsu allows Ronan to create a large sharp rod attached to his wrist which he can use to impale a target. The user makes a short series of handseals before putting their hand on the intended rod wield hand. Crystal forms around the hand and shoots outwards to make a sword/spear combination weapon attached to the user's hand. This lasts for four posts, and can easily be destroyed by a raiton jutsu(c-rank or higher).

Altair was easily hit by the tail whip, taking it unexpectedly across his cheek. He managed to get his balance back before he hit the ground by releasing his knife and pulling himself into a hand stand on his left hand followed by a quick thrust kick up at the lizard's lower jaw to shut it up before it took a bite off him. The boy also put a little spin to his movements, when his kick was made he spun around and with his right hand with the clawed gauntlet, he attempted to lay a large gash on the beasts gut or chest or even the neck. Whichever part he managed to dig the fingers into first.

Through the combined efforts of Ronan and Altair, the reptile was killed. With Altair's attacks keeping it occupied, it was easy for Ronan's spear to pierce right through its flesh, and it fell to the ground with an unsavory plop. Arietta, however, was a bit intimidated by the brutal displays of the two shinobi, and she wasn't sure how to react. She held her ground, falling into a battle stance just in case it became necessary to defend herself.

Ronan felt his crystal spear pass through the flesh of the lizard and watched as its dead body fell to the ground. He himself sat down, trying to catch his breath after running with all of his speed to catch up to the lizard. As he sat there, Ronan looked over at the girl who the lizard had been chasing. She seemed to be tense. Probably just a reaction to being chased. he thought, Now what i want to know is why it was chasing her. He would have asked that very question but he was still catching his breath and figured that Altair would just end up asking that question anyways.

The Genin relaxed a bit, he picked up his knife and whatever other tools might have been his (even pulling the crystal senbon out of the reptiles back and handing them to Ronan). After that Altair took off his claw gauntlet and laid it next to the lizard. He took a slow and steady pace getting close to the girl and holding out his hand once he'd gotten close enough (if he did, anyway). "Are you hurt?" His soft, whispery voice said to the poor girl.

Timidly, Arietta took a step back as the two ninja approached her. However, once one of them expressed a gentle concern for her well-being, she looked up to him. He didn't seem to have any hostile intentions. He even cared about whether or not she was hurt. Meekly, she muttered, "No, I'm alright... Just a bit shaken up... Thank you for saving me." Her eyes trained to the ground, she added, "Is there any way I can repay you?"

Altair took a look back at Ronan, as if looking for a good choice of words to use next. Getting repaid for something like this, wasn't exactly something he was used to. His calm and emotionless expression showed little to nothing that he felt. He looked back at her, shaking his head gently. "No." The genin answered. "But," he raised his crimson eyes to hers. "You might be safer if you came back to Iwagakure, with Ronan and me."

Ronan looked up at Altair, kind of surprised by his words. To Ronan, Altair was acting much different than he normally did. He was showing a side of him that Ronan has never seen before. Ronan, having finally caught his breath, got up and walked over to where the other two stood. "He's right you know." he said, looking behind him into the distance, "There could be more of them out there and they probably won't be too happy that he is dead." he said, referring to the dead creature that had been chasing her before.

The friendly, non-aggressive approach that the two Genin took to the sitution was a success! They earned Arietta's trust, and the timid spirit went with them.
