[Mission] Leaving through Leaves

Post by Servant » Mon Jun 07, 2010 1:35 pm

Rashi had just been assigned his mission. It wasn't pretty, rooting around the desert looking for plants, but at least it was pretty straightforward. They'd even suggested an area where Aloe had been spotted before, so it shouldn't even take long to find what he was looking for.

The largest problem with this relatively straightforward mission was the weather. The storm clouds had just rolled in and they were practically dropping bucket after bucket of water on the Rock Country's wastelands. It didn't rain often, but it was raining today. Luckily there was no thunder or lightning, so it wasn't particularly dangerous just a little uncomfortable.

[Mission] Leaving through Leaves

Rashi walked at a brisk pace out onto the planes of Tsuchi no Kuni, looking all around the area for plants that might be good for healing.

The plains were desolate. Not a lot of people came out this way, mostly because there wasn't really anything to come out here for except, obviously, aloe plants. A couple stray dogs could be seen, just laying around in the few spots of shelter from the rain they could find.

Rashi, with his impressive ability to retain knowledge, should have no problem deciphering which plants were aloe and which were dying grass. He'd been given a brief description and shown an illustration of the plant, so this should be easy. If only the rain would let up a little so visibility could improve.

He continued to search for the right plant until he found one. Unless something else came up, he would continue to gather the right leaves until he had enough, then return.

In order to get a leaf, Rashi would need to use a sharp object. The plant, growing directly from the ground, did not allow for simply plucking the leaves, like most trees.

Upon cutting the leaf, an orange liquid would pour out from where the leaf had been cut. The liquid almost looked like orange juice, but a little thicker. Rashi could try a taste of the liquid, if he wanted...

The green part of the leaf was rather thin, hidden inside the leaf was some sort of gel. To the touch, it was a little ooze-like, but it was cool to the touch. It was definitely an interesting plant.

Rashi cut the leaf off, but did not ingest the liquid. It looked like the right plant. He then moved on to the next plant, and did the same thing, and repeated the process until he was done.

It wasn't hard to find a second plant and the cutting of that leaf went very similar to the cutting of the first one. Now with 2 leaves in his pack, he only had to find a few more Aloe plants before he could head home and get out of this awful rain.

A third plant seemed to be a little harder to find, maybe it was the torrential downpour or maybe there was some geological reason... Or a biological one... Every aloe plant Rashi found seemed to have been eaten. Maybe he'd stumbled onto some animal's feeding ground. Surely the creature couldn't have eaten ALL the aloe though, right?
