High noon in a village that was more like a pit stop en route to a more suitable destination, Hiraku found himself marching into what looked like a western. With the dust swirling, and the buildings lining either side of the one roadway through the place, the only things missing was the random tumbl- nevermind, it rolled right past the ninja as I was about to say it.

The inn to his left, Hiraku really had to only go in and kill the nuisance, something anyone else in his position would be more than happy to do.

The chuunin tossed his hair out of his face as he stared up at the inn. It looked innocuous enough, but he knew that his target was somewhere inside. Adjusting the large scroll on his back, he headed inside. He walked straight up to the teller, waiting patiently until he got the girl’s attention. After a few moments, she finally turned around and greeted him politely, asking if he had a certain preference for rooms.

Hiraku smiled politely, placing a hand on the counter. ”No, actually I’m looking for someone. You see, he left a piece of jewelry at a restaurant, and I’d like to return it to him.” The lie melted off his tongue, coaxing the woman into answering his questions. ”He’s tall and thin…black hair…I didn’t quite catch his eye color, but I want to say it’s burgundy.” At the last word, he glanced around, seeing if he could find someone in the lobby matching that description.

The lady looked at the visitor with the most naive and honest eyes ever witnessed before. She thought for a moment before her eyes lit up in revelation. She had indeed checked in a gentleman fitting that description. She remembered him mainly because she had been crushing on how odd yet cute the color of his eyes had been.

Actually yes, he's a patron here. If you'll wait here, I'll go get him.

Hiraku nodded, keeping the smile on his face as she turned away. Once she went to fetch him, his face deadpanned. Hiraku detested killing people, no matter what the reason. Still, it was his duty to Iwagakure: to do whatever was asked of him. He began the process of removing himself from the situation. He cleared his mind; He became more aware of his surroundings, though everything that was irrelevant to his mission moved by without too much notice, almost as if they were blurred.

He closed his eyes, inhaling deeply. Hopefully, this wouldn't take too long.

About a minute later, the woman returned downstairs, with a distraught and puzzled look on her face. She walked up to Hiraku and bowed apologetically.

I'm sorry, I gave him your message but he said he left no jewel anywhere, and when I gave him your description, he turned pale and closed the door. I'm sorry but I must have been mistaken about the patron being the person you were looking for.

With that, she returned to her post, leaving Hiraku with a choice. Rush upstairs and risk causing a ruckus in the inn or wait outside patiently for his prey to reveal itself. The choice would be so nearly between success and failure on this mission.

Hiraku was torn between emotions. Initially, he smiled at the woman’s account. So he’s afraid? Good, he should be. On the other hand, he was irritated at the woman for going into so much detail. He buried his face in his hands for a second then looked up at her through his fingers. His brown eyes, surprisingly cold and distant now, bored into her skin. ”Thanks a lot, you’ve been a big help.” He failed to hide his sarcasm well, and turned to exit the door.

He found out what he needed to know. His target was in the inn. Once he was outside, he took a look around. He seriously doubted the man would exit through the front lobby. With a leap, he jumped atop the next building over. Once on the roof, he unlatched his scroll and formed a few handseals. In a puff of smoke, a long, sheathed nagamaki suddenly appeared before him. He rolled up the scroll, setting it carefully beside him.

No longer hiding his intent, he strapped the nagamaki to his back, crouching on the ledge. From his perch, he had a clear view of the inn, save for the opposite side. He planned on changing his perch from time to time, hoping to catch the man as he exited the building.

Hiraku managed to get in place just in time to see the man he had described climbing out of the window on the second story of the inn, a bag around his shoulders. Watching closely, the shinobi would see him loose his footing and almost slip off of the roof. It was a wonder that the man had ever managed to scale that ravine to unlock the slave cages. If the Iwa ninja managed to catch him by surprise, this should be an easy fight.

The chuunin narrowed his eyes when he saw his target crawling out of the window. Pathetic... Hiraku focused the chakra to his feet and began to rapidly scale the sid eof the building on which he was perched. When he was about level to the man, he unsheathed his nagamaki, then quickly turned and jumped, making a beeline towards the man. He pointed his blade straight for his chest, seeking a quick assassination.

*Kinobori no Waza [Act of Tree Climbing]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
Kinobori no Waza, the art of tree climbing serves a dual purpose. Taking part in Kinobori Shugyou (Tree Climbing Training) helps a ninja learn how to focus their chakra, and it also teaches them how to run up trees and walk up walls. The training helps the ninja learn how to focus just the right amount of chakra to a particular part of their body. The amount needed to climb is small but it must be precise. The feet are said to be the hardest location to learn how to master chakra focusing. So by gaining the art of this skill, the ninja will be able to have any jutsu available to him (theoretically) because she can focus chakra as needed. Next the chakra released must be properly controlled.

Whether by some sound that made it to his ears, or some other inexplicable form of sensory, the wanted man turned just in time to have the bladed weapon cut deeply into the meat in his left shoulder. Suuprised, he stumbled backwards and fell onto the roof. On his but, he had a slow reaction time, so everything seemed so pointless from this point, other than to try to talk his way out of it.

I knew it was you. I just wanted to free those people. Everyone deserves a chance at freedom. What makes them different from you or me?

More than likely, the plea would fall on heartless deaf hears, but the boy needed to try, otherwise perish without giving any effort.

Hiraku said nothing. He pulled the weapon out of his shoulder, whipping it through the air so some of the blood would splatter to the ground. He hovered over the man, the point of his blade touching his neck. He placed pressure on the weapon as the man talked; it was so sharp that blood had already began to trickle down. The chuunin gave him just enough time to finish his last sentence before he lifted the nagamaki, ready to shove it through the man's throat.

The headless corpse lay there, blood leaking over the side of the building, into the streets below. All the Iwa ninja had to do was leave the scene, and the mission was done. He had easily bested an opponent who had bested him once before, though in a different manner. Still, one had to wonder if the man were able to plant any seeds of doubt in the mind of the shinobi. Should the Cold country of Rock enslave epople, who by any other means were no different that Hiraku himself? Only time would tell....
