Figuring out the New Generation

Post by Jinan B » Mon Apr 10, 2017 6:47 am

Iwagakure's Great Wall stood proudly in the rays of the rising sun as it shielded the village within from the dangers of the world. Yet just North of it the world stood in shadow, the mountains of Rock country blocking the light of the morning from all but those who stood atop the third Tsuchikage's gift to his home. Kenitsuna Ken'ichi stood in its shadow, dressed for combat and alongside a pair of similarly aged and experienced shinobi. ...I trust it goes without saying that you are not to kill either of them, the guardian included; but that you must not allow that to prevent you from staging a suitable performance. Do not hold back any more than is necessary against them, and make sure that you only attack after the slavers have been dealt with. You have been chosen for this purpose because neither the Jinchuuriki nor the guardian know who you are, but keep your faces covered regardless; I don't want even the slightest risk of them knowing who you are. Now, until the time of your test arrives, I expect you to be shadowing the pair alongside me, make sure that you are not seen." The two shinobi bowed to the Bannin, before making their way through a freshly created opening in the wall.

With that out of the way Ken walked over to a nearby bench, sat down, and began to pray. There had been far too much on his mind as of late between Hana's return to the village; the increasing problems that he had heard about regarding the Life Genma; his newly made role in the Kinjuu, and now this. This was what was expected of those who were promoted to the rank of Bannin, he supposed. Even still, it was always nice for the man to sit down and clear his thoughts of all such problems, focussing instead on worship to the 8. It only took a moment before time ceased to exist to the man, and the going-ons of the people around him went unnoticed. After all, the only people that he cared about today were the two that he was supposed to be testing: Ayatori, Kiyone and Zoukane, Jinseie.

For now, all he needed to do was wait for them to arrive.

Figuring out the New Generation

Nervousness was not something Jinseie outwardly showed often to anyone and perhaps something he hid even inside his own mind and heart, all in the name of keeping up appearances; Not to others, though he did have a reputation to others, but because it was how he wanted to be viewed. He did not want to be unnerved or uncomfortable, he did not want to display any lapse of duty because it was who he was. It almost did not matter that he was walking in front of a Bannin of Iwagakure; He'd have had the same calm face in front of a Genin, the Tsuchikage or his own father.

He wasn't hard to see coming but he stepped lightly enough that if he had been truly trying to sneak it may have worked. Sandals crunched rock softly as he approached, the footsteps of his protected Jinchuuriki echoing close behind. He stood in front of her, leading her path and clearing it for her, his bushy orange hair making a slight sway in the breeze as he held his arms at his side. He cut an impressive image as he approached, over six foot despite a young age and a face obscured by wild sunset orange hair, his lean build cut with muscles visible through the black bodysuit he wore, exposing only his hands, ankles and neck to the elements which left them exposed but he hardly seemed to mind. Over all of this was a knee length gray yukata jacket; Thick, warm and wool with dark lining and elbow length. His sandals were worn over socks, but these were not the most abundant things about him. A waist shroud was around his waist and from under it the hilt and sheath of a well-made, simple wakizashi extended and a weapons pouch was on the opposite side, tied in two places for stability. Behind his waist, attached to a harness on his jacket, was a small martial hammer with an odd shape, like a pipe bowl with tengu holding it.

When he stopped it was a few feet away, waiting for Kiyone to catch up before he finished the last few feet, kneeling on the hard ground in front of Ken with his head bowed for a moment, then lifted as he raised up to assume something of a warding stance in front of Kiyone. "Sir. Zoukane reporting as ordered, presenting Kiyone Ayatori." he said, making a motion of his arm as he crossed his hands over his waist. He looked professional, respectful and yet talked with a certain warmth to it, even as the words were professional. Friendly and open, yet there was a looseness to his stance that spoke of his awareness.

Jinseie had met a bannin, twice actually, and drank tea with the first. He was not nervous for that, memories of Oushi's humanity in face of a greand legacy tempering the idea of any Bannin being some greater man than he, but he still respected the victories and skill of the man in front of him, the hero of Iwagakure he was to achieve this rank. No...He was preparing himself for the mission and it made him uneasy. He trusted Kiyone, he believed in himself, but this had all the hallmarks of something beyond the normal scrape. A bannin assigning it, a Jinchuuriki and himself going with no backup...He would decide how unnerved he was when he heard the details.

Figuring out the New Generation

She'd been summoned from her clan house by Jinseie to attend a Bannin that afternoon regarding a mission they were to be going on, to say she wasn't nervous was a bold faced lie. She didn't want to fail her guardian, her clan, or her village and there was a tremendous amount of pressure to not take a wrong step. Her boyfriend's bravado was endearing though and helped her with the butterflies in her stomach but wasn't quite enough to stop the fear of failure altogether.

Her soft green eye watched the orange-haired guardian's back as he lead her along, had this been any other time she might have smiled at how official he was being escorting her along, but that was not the case this time over. Despite not being as tall as the shinobi walking ahead of her she was still still eye-catching as most of the Ayatori were; a tad on the short side with long silver-white hair hanging over one shoulder in a fishtail braid, startling green eye, with large white wings folded on her back. She was dressed in comfortable clothes with talk boots, her weapons belt wrapped around her hips, and a heavy half-body cloak draped on her shoulders.

She stopped as Jinseie did, waiting until she was introduced before she stepped up and gave the Bannin a respectful bow in greeting. "Good afternoon, Sir," she said with a bit of a shake to her voice, the only Bannin she'd met she barely remembers from the time in the catacombs for her sealing, so she was still nervous.

The Bannin was torn from his devotions by the sounds of two specific sets of footsteps growing slowly louder, and he open his eyes to see a young orange-haired man who would have been tall were he not seen by the perspective of Ken'ichi himself, as well as a shorter and younger girl with eyes that clearly marked her as the Jinchuuriki that he was testing. The male of the pair spoke up first, introducing himself with a formal greeting just as Ken stood in order to begin the day's testing. He bowed before the both of them, speaking as he did so. "Kenitsuna, Ken'ichi. A pleasure."

Without so much as another word spoken, the man turned and began to walk towards the wall. A quick bout of yelling between the guards present and a newly created gap was made just in time for Ken to make his way through it. It would be clear that he expected both the Jinchuuriki and her guardian to follow him outside of the village, and only once he was through the mile-long tunnel would he address them once more. "The both of you received your mission briefing this morning, I trust? The fact that they were made sparse in detail was no accident" The Bannin had written the briefings in his own hand and signed it accordingly. In truth, the village knew a truly great amount about the group of slaver's that would occupy this mission. Everything from the number of able members in the group, as well as their precise location and the resources at their disposal. In the average case, it would have been more than a simple matter to eliminate them in a straightforward manner. Of course, that would be too simple for two competent Chuunin. Instead, Jinseie and Kiyone would only know some vague details about the group. The only piece of concrete information that they had was where it was that they were going.

"You of course already know that your mission is to 'liberate' an enemy shinobi from the hands of slaver's camped at the northern edge of the Kosshi Desert. Their numbers lie somewhere around one dozen men and women." 15 ordinary bandits to be exact, as well as the Missing-nin that would be the crux of their challenge. "Each of them can be expected to be armed and reasonably trained. Beyond that, you will need to discover information over the course of your mission." The Bannin would stop speaking after that, waiting to see if either of the two Chuunin would ask anything before he continued. With the information that they had so far, Ken would not be surprised if either of them were wondering why the village would be putting them through a test that seemed barely as difficult as the average C rank mission, if even that.

Jinseie waited patiently as he was greeted, Kiyone behind, and followed quickly as the man stepped to the Wall, the gate-like opening met with a careful walk as he helped Kiyone step through as much as might be necessary and when they arrived, they were greeted with the basics of their request; And as he heard more, he bit his tongue. If this were any other man, on any other mission, he'd have asked questions. He'd have discussed possible strategies, he'd have inquired about the strength of the missing-nin they were to fight and he'd have asked Ken'ichi's opinion of things. He'd taken quite a few missions in his life, many more than the average Chuunin, and he recognized immediately that this was not normaly. This little information meant they were either outclassed, unlikely, or deliberately obtuse.

So instead he nodded now and placed both hands together respectfully. "Sir, may I ask if we've full discretion on how to handle the situation, given the lack of information?" he asked, making sure before he jumped to conclusions that this was what it seemed. There was no hesitation in how he responded. He didn't look to Kiyone yet, but if he did, it would certainly be enough to make her realize he was suspicious, especially given he wasn't grinning and running off, carrying her around on his back or somesuch nonsense. He was so much more enthusiastic normally.

Figuring out the New Generation

She gave the senior shinobi another polite bow as he introduced himself, the usual ease in which she moved hampered by her state of nerves. This wasn't her first mission by far, she was one parts tense because of the presence of Ken'ichi and another part the Genma's influence on her personality and psyche. She trailed after the two males as the bannin began to lead them outside the village walls, accepting Jinseie's help through the gateway before following without any further assistance. She had given her young guardian a small smile of assurance that she was alright, following in silence as Ken'ichi spoke briefly to them about the mission briefing, not that it was much of one, most of the information was determined need to know, although the word they used was "proprietary".

Concentrating on the voice of the bannin of and the bounce of the ginger hair of Jinseie allowed to her to breathe through the tight feeling in her chest, the shortness of her breath; she almost had a thought to roll her eye as another fear took root, albeit generally temporary and in the moment, none of the fears that manifest themselves stayed permanently just yet. Worst was the phobias already present in herself.

Once outside the tunnel she let out a heavy breath and flexed her shaken hands as she fought the fear for control. She focused on Ken'cihi as he spoke more on the parameters of the mission, her brows furrowing at the information, or rather lack thereof. Jinseie spoke and the jinchuuriki canted her head a little, waiting for the answer now.
