[Graded][Plotboard] Fate's Cruelty

Post by Willoria » Tue Oct 02, 2018 6:26 pm

"Next time they say 'oh he's gone on to the next town.' I'm going to ask them to be specific about how far away it is." Akari Ume grumbled, sighing to herself as she spoke to her guardian. The pair walked a rocky road away from some outlying village in Rock Country in pursuit of a not-so-careful quarry. She ran her fingers through her hair in her own exasperation and glanced over at Koyama who of course towered over her. They had been sent on a mission to track down a missing ninja from their own village. Ume was a Chunin, but Koyama was a Special Jounin and the mission brief had made it sound rather simple.
'Akari Kaska is not of sound mind. Even before he left he was found to be rather unstable and was denied any rank up beyond Chunin due to this. He became prone to attacking not just his fellow clan members, a thing seen as normal, to attacking even civilians when the mood struck him. Before he could be incarcerated for this behavior he escaped the village with the help of a merchant's daughter who had taken a shine to him. Sadly he killed her the moment they were out of the village and he disappeared. Recent reports show he has been seen in nearby villages once more and we believe his mental instability has worsened, causing him to lose any sense of caution but also making him a prime target for capture or neutralization. You mission is to find him. Bring him back if you can, but kill him if you must.' Ume's body language even betrayed the fact that she was already bored, her shoulders lax even though she appeared to be watching her surroundings fairly well. "This is going to be like every other time." she mused. "We'll get there, find a little vandalism, maybe a body or two, and he'll move on to the next town."

Koyama couldn't help his reaction to his ward's obvious boredom, scoffing and rolling his eyes as the girl was clearly not in the right mind to hunt anymore. "Would you be serious Ume? This is your first hunt I know, but did you think we were going to walk for half an hour and suddenly find the guy waiting for us in an open field? Even if he's gone nuts, he still doesn't want to be found. So get your head into it and focus." Koyama crossed his arms in minor annoyance at the girl's impatience, but honestly this particular hunt was growing old pretty fast. It had already been a few days, maybe a week at most, but it felt like it had dragged on much longer than that... likely due to Ume's boredom.

The path ahead of them was simple enough; a long stretch of dirt road that seemed to run off into infinity, with no turns or bends to speak of. If anything, it made the trek seem that much longer, that much more tedious. Still, the entire time, Koyama's senses were alert; he kept an ear out for any sounds from the forest surrounding them, an his head on a swivel as he looked for any semblance of movement. He was prepared... but was Ume?

Ume rolled her eyes at Koyama's annoyance, and smirked at him. "What's wrong? Worried I'll end up dead or already tired of staring at my ass while you walk?" she challenged. The girl had been rather strange for some time now. Ever since she had kissed Kotaru, and fought to make things up to Tatsuo, even going so far as to offer herself to him physically to prove she was dedicated to him. Something clearly still ate away at her as she had slowly become both colder, and almost more hostile in other ways. "Considering the line of women you have in and out of the house, I figured it'd take you longer to get sick of the view, but maybe that's why its a line of women and not just one..." She sighed, silently wishing she could get her hands on some alcohol right about now.

She did manage to keep herself from finishing what she wanted to say though. Despite managing to patch things up to Tatsuo, managing to lose Kotaru as a friend because of their indiscretion, the girl had come to feel as if she didn't deserve life. She was slowly becoming reckless, or at least not caring what happened to her. She knew to someone like Koyama that was practically like being suicidal, though she didn't quite see it that way.

Koyama was already sick of this new attitude of Ume's, and the more she spoke the more sick of it he got. His heavy, thudding footsteps stopped for a moment as he reached out to grab Ume's shoulder, and if he got ahold of her he'd turn her around to face him, stopping in the middle of the path as he did so. "That's enough out of you! We already had this conversation once but apparently I need to make it clear again; Mistakes were made, and life goes on. You wanna sulk, go right the fuck ahead, but you're not going to attack me with your problems!"

Koyama paused for a moment, letting out a deep, frustrated breath before rolling his eyes and continuing. "You need to take this seriously, Ume. You need to take your life seriously. Or for your sake, i'm gonna throw you in a cell myself to keep you from making more stupid decisions. Now, you decide where we go next; am I taking you back to Iwa, or are we gonna keep on this fucker's trail?" Koyama of course wanted to keep going, he was never one to turn down a mission. But Ume... her head was in a thousand places, and not one of them was here with him on this hunt. If she didn't shape up now, she was going to be useless when the fighting started...

And the fighting was a lot closer than they thought.

Ume yelped as Koyama suddenly put a hand on her and spun her around. She wasn't anticipating it, though honestly even if she had she probably couldn't have stopped it. She leveled a glare at him as he spoke and moved to shove his hand away, though he'd already removed it really, making her motion redundant. Her arms crossed over her chest and she rolled her eyes at him, shaking her head. "You know, you told me if you ever thought I was weak you'd just kill me and take my shiin for yourself. But now you want me to act like you think my life has value? Are you a liar or did you just lose your balls?" she snapped further, rolling her eyes again and turned away to continue on the path.

"We move forward!" she called back to him with a sigh.

As the road wound on it dropped into a small ravine, and that was where Ume suddenly seemed to trip and go tumbling forward. Rocks cut into her arms and legs but she covered her face and kept herself from taking serious damage. When she came to a stop she moved to stand but stumbled back to her knees, and realized her ankles were bound by bola.

Koyama bit his tongue for once... While he wanted nothing more than to tear into her for her irresponsible and downright suicidal mindset, he hoped that if he could just make it through this mission, the two could sit down and discuss things in Iwa. Although he had to admit, being called weak was one of the quickest ways to piss him off, but in a way she was right. He didn't want her shiin, not anymore anyway. No, he wanted her to find some goddamn value in her own life, and that would hopefully come with time. But to get there, they'd have to face this challenge first, so he scoffed and started to follow after Ume as she led the way.

However, his wandering thoughts had let her get a little ways ahead of him, and before he could catch up he saw as the spinning orbs wrapped around Ume's legs and brought her tumbling to the ground down into the ravine. Koyama didn't even have time to curse, his shiin burst forth from his body all at once as he gathered chakra within himself and he charged forward towards where Ume had fallen. "Ume!" He called out for her, but before he could locate her someone else caught his attention; a group of raiders.

But these were no normal raiders, no something was off... They seemed much better than average, even at a glance. Most raiders had no idea what Bola even were, let alone how to effectively throw them. Something wasn't right here, but Koyama wouldn't have much time to find out. These men seemed intent on a fight, intent on bringing Ume back with them as their quarry. And Koyama couldn't let that happen... With a roar, he flapped his wings and darted forward towards the group, ready to tear limb from bloody limb.

Down in the ravine, Ume would find it difficult to move much at all. She could crawl with her arms of course, but those Bola weren't coming off without some work or a knife or something. And when she fell, her ninja pouch containing her kunai fell off and slid a few meters away from her. With a bit of crawling she could reach it and cut herself free...

Ume struggled against the bola, rolling over to sit on her backside to pull at them with her hands. 'Dammit, I'll have to cut them off...' She snarled under her breath and reached back for the pouch on her lower back. But it was gone, all of her kunai were gone. Her gaze darted wildly and she spotted the pouch not too far away but her quick check gave her more information that suddenly became more concerning. She could hear Koyama fighting back up where she had fallen from, but she could also see two people making their way down towards her. At their pace they would reach her before she could reach her pouch. But a quick pat of her belongings also revealed she still had her other pouches.

With a grin she grabbed two rocks from the ground and slapped an explosive tag on each of them and threw them as close to the two men as she could. Detonating them individual with a couple of quick kai, she started crawling towards her pouch of kunai. 'Dammit Ume... you utter moron...'

Koyama normally had no trouble dealing with a few petty bandits, in fact he found the activity to be rather fun, especially during monotonous walks like the one he and Ume had just been on. But these guys were smart, trained, well prepared... like they were expecting him. He still managed to charge straight into a group of three of them, using his giant Phasmashiin to tear through their bodies like wet paper, spraying blood all over the ground. But just after that strike, three more were upon him, slashing at his back with well refined Katanas. A beat of his wings would slap away two of them, but the third delivered a decisive strike against his wing, tearing into the wing and causing him to let loose a howl of rage before turning to bisect the bastard with his Phasmashiin.

And there were still more coming... This was going to get tough fast, he had to find Ume and get out of there. But he had no time to break free from combat... Shit... Ume, remember what I told you about your shiin. His wings receded and his mind got back on the fight as he stomped forwards towards another approaching group of bandits.
The exploding tags were indeed successful in staving off her pursuers, both men letting out small yelps as the concussive force sent them sprawling backwards, landing on their backs with heavy thuds. The girl's pouch would be within reach in but a few more small wiggles, but before she could manage to reach it, she and everyone else in the area would here a loud whistle... And then, all of the sudden, she'd start to feel very tired.

Ume reached out with her hands and pulled herself forward as she heard the men scrambling after the explosion. But just as she felt her hands reach her pouch, fingertips touching the cold metal of one of her kunai, there was a whistle. Her eyelids felt heavy, her entire body pulled her into the earth and she felt sleep grabbing at her. Her hands fumbled, fingers looking for the holster that held her senbon. 'Gen... it has to be...' Her fingers touched her senbon and with a yell of defiance the young Akari plunged one into the meat of her thigh. She expected the pain to snap her out of it, to wake her up.

She had no idea the genjutsu used was above such a level, and instead she soon passed out from the genjutsu she knew so little about. The last thing she saw were the two men who had been scrambling towards her just slump forward into unconsciousness themselves. If she hadn't been about to pass out herself, she might have laughed at the way they fell head first, and judging by the spray of blood at least one of them was dead from it.

But darkness took her.

Koyama had just gotten through ripping through another couple of bandits, spreading their viscera across the floor in a display that caused even these trained warriors to pause in their tracks, when he heard the whistle. Everyone else heard it to and, in order to avoid falling and hurting themselves, were quick to put their weapons away and ease themselves on to the ground, knowing that sleep would take them soon. Koyama growled and seethed, blood covering the front of his body as he looked to the closest opponent and prepared to stab them while they lay on the ground, but suddenly the great drowsiness flowed through him too...

He hit the ground with a hard and heavy thud, not even having the time to realize that it was a genjutsu. His shiin all receded as soon as he passed out, and soon everyone on that field was fast asleep.
As Ume slowly came to, she'd hear the back end of a conversation taking place a few meters away from her."...Big money for her. I have no idea what that thing guarding her was, but if she was special enough to be protected by him, she must be worth millions! Mitsuki is going to be thrilled!" "Quiet Joruto! Don't forget these guys were after Kaska, the boss's new 'buddy'. I swear, I don't know what that guy's deal is... he waltzes in and puts us all to sleep, all just so he can capture this chick? Didn't even kill the big guy! Seriously, whats he gonna do next, invite this chick to dinner?"

Ume would find herself in a cage, covered by a large tarp, on a horsedrawn wagon destined for... who knows? But none of her gear was on her, her arms were bound behind her back, and the cage door was sealed tight with a large lock keeping a big chain wrapped around the door. Escape looked difficult, if possible at all. Her shiin might help, but that would also give away the knowledge of just what kind of delicacy she possessed, and with the potential of their Akari quarry being in the area... Ume was stuck between a rock and a hard place, that much was certain.

Koyama, on the other hand, was literally left face down in the dirt back on that dirt path. It would be a while before he awoke to find that Ume was gone, and of course there was only one option; find her. Fast.

Ume whimpered quietly as she came to. She seemed to have been lumped into a ball on the bottom of her cage and barely managed to sit up. She seemed to have enough room to stand but didn't try it simply because her neck was so stiff she felt like she couldn't move it, and her head was pounding. She used her bound hands to hold onto the back of the cage and keep herself upright as she took a few controlled and deep breaths to try and evaluate herself, and where she was. Her hair fell in her eyes and it took a few attempts to get it mostly out of her face without the use of her hands. She heard voices and in her mind she started trying to do some figuring.

But every idea she had involved hand seals she couldn't form with bound hands or weapons she obviously didn't have on her and she couldn't help an audible groan. The fact that she was covered in a tarp was really just an annoyance, but at least it gave her enough focus to pay attention to what was being said and the girl grinned from where she sat. 'They didn't kill Koyama and were dumb enough to leave him behind? What morons...' She sighed and leaned against the bars, leaning against them with a sigh and dropping the smile off her face as she tried to create her own chance to escape, or at least to see what she was dealing with. "Hey!" she yelled. "I need to piss! Just a few minute stop, I swear!"

Ume's yelling caused the conversation outside the tarp to stop dead in it's tracks, followed by a few of the men making a disgusted remark. "Ew, i'll be damned if i'm cleaning some chick's piss out of the wagon. Guys! Hold up!" After a few moments and a 'woah' from the wagon driver, Ume would come to a stop, and a moment later the tarp would be removed from her cage to reveal at least a dozen men surrounding the wagon. At the front of the troupe was a man on a horse all on his own, the only other horse in the band of men.

One look would be all Ume needed to confirm his identity as the missing ninja she had been sent after in the first place; Akari Kaska

"Are you fools seriously going to fall for the oldest trick in the book?" Kaska spoke out, turning around on his horse to eyeball Ume as he spoke. "She clearly intends on making an escape attempt, and you're going to give her the prime opportunity to do so? Are you really that stupid?" "Look, you ain't the boss a' me Kaska, and i'm not about to clean piss up cus you don't think we should let her go on a tree!" The man hopped up on the wagon, a small key ring in hand, but just as he was about to insert one of the keys into Ume's cage the 'swish' and 'squelch' of a kunai finding it's home in the man's neck interrupted her escape attempt.

However, the keys were still right there, and since the wagon had raised edges, a quick sleight of hand might enable her to snatch the cage's key off of the ring before anyone noticed. The man's blood ran down his neck as he gasped for air, eventually falling off of the back of the wagon on to the ground as his comrades looked on in shock. "Would anyone else like to test my patience today?" The group, still stunned at his complete disregard for their lives, fell silent and somber. Once again, Kaska's eyes met with Ume's. "I know that you're Akari child. I may not know what you possess, but you clearly have shiin of some kind... I'll enjoy snacking on them later."

He then looked down to another of the men. "Cover her back up and let's get on with it." The men did as they were told, and a few moments later Ume would be covered up again, while the wagon moved on from the dead man's body.

Honestly Ume had a hard time not smirking at the conversation the Akari had with other members of this troupe. It was honestly almost hysterical to her. As one man inserted a key into her cage, Ume stepped up close to the bars, turned around so her back was to him and ran her fingertips over his hand in almost an endearing gesture. A feat barely possible with her bound hands. Perhaps this was one of the reasons he wound up dying, but regardless it had an outcome that Ume felt she could live with. The spray of blood barely missed her, but the key found a home in her cloak before the body even fell. With a frustrated sigh, Ume glared at Kaska as if he had just foiled a perfectly good plan. "Careful who you snack on!" she called as he walked away. She shrugged, causing her cloak to slip and reveal the spiral scarring down her shoulder and arm that went over her veins. Scars from her disease. "Or haven't you heard about the new plague spreading among our kind?" she challenged.

She smirked as she watched the cover drape over her cage once more, knowing he probably wouldn't listen to what she had to say, but just maybe it would keep him distracted mentally. As the group began to move on, Ume didn't sit down. She stayed near the door and listened quietly for tell tale signs of their guard dropping so that she could make a different attempt to escape.

She also listened hoping to hear the approach of her body guard.

The scarring running down Ume's body gave Kaska a slight look of interest, and some minor disgust, but ultimately he made no verbal comment on it. Instead he took his place at the helm once more, disappearing from sight as the tarp went over Ume's cage again. She'd find herself alone and unwatched now, so if she wanted to work on an escape attempt, now would be the time. Without prying eyes on her, she could probably weasel her way out of those cuffs with a few flexible contortions, and if she was fast enough maybe she could burst out from under the tarp and make a break for it.

Or maybe the waiting game was better. This troupe had to stop and rest sometime, and the sun was already beginning to set. It wouldn't be but a few hours till they stopped for the night, and after everyone went to sleep, she might be able to sneak away in the dead of night. Either way, she would only have one shot at this, because if she failed she'd either get killed outright or she'd lose any sense of privacy needed to come up with an escape attempt. Ume had to think, and think hard...

[Plotboard] Fate's Cruelty

Post by Willoria » Fri Oct 12, 2018 10:10 pm

After several moments, when Ume was certain the group had begun falling into routine once more and hopefully dropped their guard, she sat down on the floor of her cage. With a couple of painful moves she managed to get her hands to the front of her. Focusing her chakra for a moment she meant to manifest only her Temershiin and Eroshiin. She didn't even notice that under the hood of her cloak she had manifested her Astrashiin as well. Her Temershiin tail came up from behind her and wrapped around her bonds, with a quick yank they were broken. She drew the key she had stolen from her cloak and went to the door of her cage, carefully unlocking it under the tarp. She did her best not to move the tarp in any unnatural way, but a moment later she slid out from under it and rolled across the ground.

Without hesitation she gave a quick flap of her wings and took off at a speed she wasn't normally capable of, but her wings gave her that advantage. "I won't be a feast." she muttered as she moved as quickly as she could. Her wings she angled to catch the wind in the area and further her movement, grinning from ear to ear as she glided along.
Jutsu UsedShow
~Basic Formation: Astrashiin
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
Type: Astrashiin
Channeling chakra to their shiin, they cause it to inflate, fully forming into its full glory. Taking the form of a helmet, the astrashiin is perhaps the weakest of the shiin, having only half the Akari's strength and stamina.

~Basic Formation: Temershiin
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
Type: Temershiin
Channeling chakra to their shiin, they cause it to inflate, fully forming into its full glory. The temershiin takes the shape of a wide and powerful tail. The strength and durability of a temershiin are equal to the user's strength and stamina.

~Basic Formation: Eroshiin
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
Type: Eroshiin
Channeling chakra to their shiin, they cause it to inflate, fully forming into its full glory. Taking the form of energy-like jelly small wings, they are incapable of flight on their own, however are very aerodynamic, allowing for the user to slowly float down, based on their prerequisite taijutsu. The Eroshiin has a strength and stamina equal to 3/4ths the user's strength and stamina.

Fire Forward
C-Ranked Maneuver Taijutsu
Type: Eroshiin
In this Maneuver the user flaps their Eroshiin wings to create a boost to their speed, launching themselves forward at a speed of +6 for a max of five meters. This results in a -6 to Ninjutsu while in use.

~Glide
B-Ranked Maneuver Taijutsu
Type: Eroshiin
Requirements: ~Feather Fall
Effectively the same as the prior technique, this allows the Akari to glide in all measure of the word. They are able to 'ride' the wind, gaining height through the use of the natural wind or [Fuuton] techniques.

To say that the men were surprised by the sudden burst of speed Ume was an understatement; in fact, they were completely caught off guard by the action, caught practically flat footed as she exploded out and took off at a high speed dash with all of her shiin manifested. The bandits may have been dumbstruck, but Kaska was quick to notice that glowing organ manifested on Ume's head. He knew exactly what it was too... and he suddenly wanted her far more than before. "Do not let that girl escape! I want her alive!" As if awoken from their awe, the men were quick to act on Kaska's words, giving chase to Ume.

Of course, they were too slow to catch her in the short run; she was simply too fast iwth those wings of hers. But she couldn't keep that pace up forever, she'd have to slow down eventually... And what then? Hopefully she could reunite with her ward by then... or else. Still, Ume was free, and the men were within eyesight for a good 10 minutes before she finally got far enough away that they were out of sight. She was free, for the time... Now what? She had no idea where she was, nor where Koyama was. There was a dirt path, likely the same one that the wagon had ridden along with her aboard. Would she follow it back, leaving herself exposed as she did so? Or would she trek the forest in the hopes of remaining unnoticed by her enemies... and possibly her bodyguard as well?

Ume moved as fast as she could, and knew that her safest bet was the find Koyama and fast. She knew the man's tactics well, and they had often spoken of what to do when separated. Of course, usually she would do as she had been told by him and find a place to hide. But here there was no safe place to hide, and during her escape Ume had realized her error and what she had inadvertantly shown Kaska. She knew now that hiding presented the greatest risk, there was no way the man was going to ease up on finding her. She had revealed herself to be the greatest prize he would ever find, and he wouldn't stop until he had her. So stopping wasn't an option, and not knowing where Koyama would be hiding as he tracked her down, Ume took a risky approach.

She kept gliding her way along the path itself, moving as quickly as she could manage. No matter where Koyama was, she knew he'd be following these tracks. At some point she'd run into him, or he'd find her, and she knew it.
