[Legends] Ravine of Reunion

A figure clumped up against the wall, its head resting on the cold, damp bricks. Their hands bound, a fuuin placed on the cuffs and bandage wrapped around it’s eye preventing any dojutsu been activated.

A loud dripping noise echoed through the small dark chamber and down the hallways, over the top hard footsteps pacing up and down in a rhythmic pattern.

Drip, drip, clip, clop, drip, drip, clip, clop.

These sounds had rung through this cell and the figures ears for over three years, now. Day in day out, it was enough to drive a person crazy.

Drip, drip, clip, clop, drip, drip, clip, clop.

The clip clops, grew louder and louder which meant only one thing. Dinner time.

A wooden bowl was slid across the floor, dropping out a few pieces of rice as it went. The figure yanked himself from the wall and carefully lifted the bowl, towards their mouth. It was apparent they had got quite good at this balancing act, for most people it would be difficult to eat with their hands tied together.

“You have a visitor today, Yoru.”
Said the guard who stood just on the other side of the bars, before turning on his heels and heading back. Leaving Yoru alone, to eat his dinner, his nose pressed into the bowl like a well trained dog.

Drip, drip, clip, clop, drip, drip, clip, clop.

The world had been turned upside down over 3 years ago. War erupted and spilled into all parts of the known world, at least, it felt like it to Niku. She was sure there were pockets of people somewhere remote who's lives hadn't been negatively impacted by the years of turmoil, but it was like the hypothetical aliens that she was sure also lived somewhere out there in cosmos. Knowing they existed, didn't necessarily mean that they were relevant to her daily life and she, at this moment, longed for daily life. A life without warring, a life without killing, a life without blood. At the same time, this new life had given Niku new reasons to expand her capabilities and brought about a strong survival instinct that she didn't realize she had. It had served her well: aiding her in surviving numerous battles so far throughout the Great War. And now, she was preparing herself to invade Rock Country, which was both terrifying and exciting. A chance to test her mettle against the Iwa shinobi that she'd heard so much about.

She could also rest assured as some of Konoha's heavy hitters were coming along for the mission. Some, she was pretty comfortable with as she'd worked with them before on some levels. Others, she'd naturally met in passing but didn't know too well and then... there was the guest of honor? Aizawa Yoru, the man who'd attempted to kill Konoha's Hokage. He'd been in jail for nearly 3 years and the Hokage had decided to allow him to fight for his freedom by joining the mission. She wasn't exactly pleased about this at all. For one, Yoru wasn't Konoha's ally, he may have been some years ago, before Niku had been a competent kunoichi, but he no longer was a friend of Fire. There was also no guarantee that he could be trusted, he might just make a run for it when the fighting got underway, using Rock Country's forces as a diversion. She had wanted to voice her concerns, but she hadn't felt comfortable doing so with all of the bannin and other shinobi in attendance at the mission briefing. She also presumed that Takeo had given it a lot of thought and he knew Yoru much better than she did.

They weren't even sure if Yoru would take the deal. Rampaging into another ninja village's country and attempting to take their ninja village wasn't exactly the kind of mission everyone signed up for. On the other hand, the one eyed-shinobi had been stuck in a prison cell for 3 years so he may be a bit more interested in stretching his legs. Most of the members of the mission were already gathered as Takeo went to "recruit" Yoru for the mission. The kunoichi turned to the other shinobi that were gathered there. "Is this really ok? Can we really trust this guy to have our backs?" she asked, hoping she wasn't the only one having these thoughts and hoping maybe someone here knew Yoru well enough to speak to his character.

[Legends] Ravine of Reunion

The war was in full swing, it had been three years and in that time a great many people shinobi, samurai, and civilian alike had lost loved ones and in some cases even their homes. It greatly saddened Masami to know that she herself had been playing some part in the death and destruction. Peace at this juncture seemed more distant than ever but she held onto hope there was some way to bring the fighting to an end, hopefully without too much more chaos. And maybe, just maybe this mission would serve as the key. She didn't like the idea of an invasion by any means but when Takeo had called on her help she had readily accepted nonetheless. Why? Well, there had been a number of reasons, chief among them being that despite her misgivings, her fears and regrets, she was willing to do all she could to serve her village, not as a Jinchuuriki but rather as one who deeply loved her homeland and its people.

Let us not forget you seemed quite eager for a good opportunity to prove yourself amongst your peers.

Okay, that's true too... but you don't understand. I'm tired of lagging behind. It's exciting for my hard work to be acknowledged by being selected for such an important mission.

She let out a sigh as the back and forth came to a close, the woman having come out of her own thoughts just in time to be spoken too, head tilted as she wondered whom Niku was referring to. It was just a moment however before it clicked. Right... in addition to herself, Niku, and Takeo there would be one more coming along. "Aizawa Yoru? Honestly, I've never met the man but Takeo seems to trust him and I trust Takeo. I hear they have a great deal of history together." she responded, crossing her arms and letting out another sigh as she leaned against a nearby tree. While true, she also knew that he had been a former Genma guardian and he had attempted to kill Takeo. There was no telling what he was capable of.

"All said, remaining vigilant never hurts. Being watchful and mindful of your surroundings and those within them is key to victory, just keep that in mind."
