[Mission] By the spots

The weather had turned cold a few weeks ago, and even through the mist the snow still fell lightly upon the ground. On the outskirts of the village was the frozen lake, and even though it was the middle of the day, there wasn't a soul there. Just a couple of weeks ago it would have been buzzing with activity, ice skaters and the occasional Aisu showing off or training nearby.

As it was, the frozen lake was deserted, and no one had been there for several days. Most of the snow itself appeared even undistrubed, except for the occasional footprint or pawprint.

Yukio had been sitting on a roof in the third ring, watching the snow fall, when a messenger gave him his newest mission. Yukio had heard that children had been going missing, and had even thought about hanging out in the trees to find out why, but now the village wanted him to find out why, and put a stop to it. Yukio returned to his home to grab his things, mainly his scythe, and set out. It did not take long for him to make it out to the lake, Frostbite in hand, and while he was no tracker, Yukio planned to find whatever was taking the kids and put an end to its life.

The snow was mostly undisturbed, even around the lake. There had not been a soul there in weeks, and Yukio was about to find out why. Be it human, beast, or spirit, whatever is taking these children I will kill it. Frostbite will remove it's head, or I will drive it's spike through its heart.

The last disappearance had been three days ago, and no one had been permitted near the lake since. The surface of the ice was fairly undisturbed, though along a small stretch of bank, perhaps ten feet, the ice had melted a bit and the water peeked out, lapping up the shore just a bit, melting the snow just a bit. In that water there was a muddy foot print, running up the shore and around to some nearby trees.

Yukio heard the water lapping at the shore, a sign of a gentle breeze, and went to check it out. During this time of the year the lake was normally completely frozen over, so exposed water was something to look at. In the water he found a muddy foot print that led into the trees. Resting Frostbite on his shoulder Yukio ran into the trees searching for any more clues he could find.

The patch of trees wasn't large, maybe a dozen in a tight grouping. There were footprints going all over, obviously whatever kid had wandered in here had loved to climb all over the trees. But some of the trees showed signs of more than just kids climbing the trees. There were claw marks.

Upon further investigation of the ground Yukio would find paw prints, not the prints of a canine, but the prints of a feline. The prints were rather large, and pressed deep into the snow, the animal was likely around 100 pounds.
