Field Training!

Post by Ign0miny » Sat Feb 23, 2013 6:00 am

It was early morning when a member of the medical core came to the house. The man that entered spoke first with the mother and father of the young woman he had been sent to retrieve. "I am sorry to disturb you at such an early hour, but a team has been scattered across the village to locate all medical ninja in the village. We have received word that another village nearby has just dropped dead with no signs of attack whatsoever. We have sent out scouts, and yet we are still uncertain of the cause. In any case we require several medical nin regardless of skill or lack thereof to help identify the plight that has befallen this village. It should be noted that there is no danger in entering the village, we have already sent in people to test that theory and all are fine. The man looked around the room is Inari around so that I can escort her to the rendezvous point, with your permission of course." The man was very formal, noting the status that the two ninja in front of his carried.

The man waited for Inari to appear, and handed her a thin file of what they had. "In truth all of the high ranking medical ninja were either on priority missions, or heading up some other function, so this will have to fall on the younger medical ninja of the village, which is a perfect gauging of their talents in my opinion." The man looked at the young woman, and then turned to head for the door. "I will wait outside while you make preparations."

The last thing Inari expected first thing in the morning was the sudden pounding on her door by her father. Groaning in a state of sleep-filled bliss, she wiggled her thin eyes upon and muttered with agitation. “Sorry kiddo, Mizukage calls. Looks like you have a mission,” he said as he tossed one of her discarded pillows right at her head. “Wake up. Don’t want to keep your mission handler waiting.” As the parental unit evacuated the room, the young blonde let out one last groan before springing upright. She quickly washed her face, pulled her hair up in a tight bun to conceal her bed head as best as possible, and dressed in her normal outfit before saying a goodbye to both parents. Stepping out into the chilled air, she bundled her coat tightly to across her body. “So, what do you have planned for little oh me?” she asked as she took the file, opening it up and quickly skimming over it. No reason to read it in full detail as of yet. She could do that on the way to the assignment.

Listening closely to what the formal male had to say, she nodded. A bunch of dead villagers and they want her to examine and determine the cause? They really must have been in desperate need to ask a fairly inexperienced medical ninja in on the task. While the likelihood of no danger was there, the exposure to perhaps foreign substances left her a bit uneasy. Nevertheless, a mission was a mission. If she was asked to perform it, she would do so with the best of her ability. “Lead the way! I’ll follow right behind,” she spoke with nervous excitement before taking off. She wondered just how close the village was to Kiri, if she had ever been in the region once before, and if she had previously known any of the deceased victims. If that was the case, it would be the first person (or perhaps persons) she had ever seen dead that she personally knew. Though a tad unsettling, this was the career path that she had chosen for herself. Death was apart of a ninja’s life, and it was very frequent among those tasks to try and preserve it. Couldn’t save everyone’s life now...

The man lead her to an area where a bunch of fellow genin were all waiting in a large group, a total of a round twenty were in attendance. The man in the medical core was then handed a clipboard which he signed and then walked into the front of the group of young ninja. "Listen up! You have been chosen to help with an investigation involving a village nearby. At present we are unsure what caused this village to simply drop dead, but what we do know is that there is no signs of struggle, and no outward signs of trauma to the bodies in question. It should also be known that it is imperative that we complete our mission." Afterwards the mission leader paused and looked through the crowd. "Are there any questions?"

The man waited for a moment to answer any questions that may come up during this meeting. For several of these people this would be his or her first mission. After all the questions and answers, the man produced a map of a village about three miles from Kiri. It was pretty close and wouldn't take that long to travel to. Before they left he broke them up into teams, and gave each team Inari was teamed with a kid by the name of Kirito. He was a scrawny little thing that had little to no muscle, but be was said to be versed in medical, as well as some advanced ninjutsu. The man moved his charges to the gate, and began the trek to the nearby village.

As Inari was lead to a large group of individuals, she was quick to surprise at seeing just how many Genin there were. Lord. Was Kiri that short-handed in terms of high ranking medical ninja? While it made her feel like she was promised job security as she ranked up, the thought crossed her about just how her skills would need to improve over the next few years. Should Kiri be attacked…the causalities would probably be immense. Shaking those thoughts behind her, she shifted her attention towards the center-most medic-core leader. Guess he was in charge of his mission? So…no external signs of injury huh? Then that could only left one thing…Raising her hand high in the air and waiting to be called, she stood up on her tiptoes to try and somehow seem larger than she truly wasn’t. “Have we had a toxicology report done on their blood panels? Has any suspicious pathogens been found?” she asked.

As the question was answered, positively or negatively, the girl would move to her temporary squad mate. It wasn’t an individual she recognized, but Kiri was a big place. He didn’t seem to be the most fit of ninja, but she couldn’t complain much her self. She had her own flaws that she needed to improve upon herself. “Nice to meet you Kirito. I’m Tenjoin Asuka. It is a pleasure, though I wish we could have met through other circumstances. I hope you’ll be of great assist to finding out just what in the world has plagued this village.” Flashing him a warm smile, she would make her way out of the village and follow the rest of the group towards the nearby ghost town.

Not surprising to the lead medic Inari was the only person to raise her hand; he had expected at least this much. "There was a report done but I received word that the sample was contaminated, so we have yet to receive any results on this. You will be provided with a kit to help determine if there even is a pathogen that caused this. What we do know is that there is no immediate danger to those that enter the village. Even though there are no other explanations we are not leaning towards this path, however, we also cannot rule anything out, so even with the evidence we have now I need you too look at every aspect of death that you can imagine, and paint me a picture of how this could have transpired!"

He felt he had said more than the girl had asked for, but he had dealt with her family before and if he knew anything about her mother and father he knew they were thorough. The run to the village didn't last as long as the man had originally stated, he set a good pace and they only stopped twice during there venture, once for water break, and another because some random genin got lost when a random fog rolled in.

The fog soon cleared, and the village seemed to come out of nowhere. The buildings were small and all of them were made out of found materials. Despite this fact the village had a Kiri feel to it, the structures were placed militarily, as if to defend from some foreign invader. There were towers, were archers more than likely stood to keep watch, and the gate was several layers of crisscrossed pieces of wood that were tied together, it was heavy even for the experienced medical professional when he pushed it open. Looking at it close up you could see that there was no forced entry.

The bodies had been moved to eleven tents along the south end of the village, The tents had Kiri markings, and all were equipped with all the tools necessary for the genin to help with this examination. They were greeted by a small group of four individuals. They were clad in light blue and black, with animal masks. The lead medic walked over and chatted with them for a long while and when he was done he looked at his team and pointed to the tents, "You will pick a tent and start your examinations. There are a total of a hundred people dead, each tent has two bodies in it at present, if you require another body, ask and you shall receive. I will be in the eleventh tent if you have any questions. If you find anything, or you learn of any information bring it to me. Any more questions?"

The young medical shinobi listened with observing ears. Frankly, she was surprised that no evidence was found. Her inclination towards just what might be the culprit was limited. Nothing came to her intuition. If foul play was not the answer nor was pathogens, then just what could it be? Frowning lightly, the girl lowered her hand and pondered. While she had hoped that the other ninja assigned to the mission would ask their own questions to help spawn forth any ideas that just merely didn’t come to mind, such never happened. Great…while she expected to be with a lot of newbies, she didn’t expect they would be this novice! Great. They probably wouldn’t be much assistance towards the aid of the success of this mission. Now she was starting to feel like she was going to be forced to do this alone.

Letting out a sigh, Inari moved with Kirito through the thick fog. Though there was slight hesitations from a few genin who liked to stumble off path, they eventually made it to the military organized village. The girl personally never had been here, removing her fears of seeing someone that she might have known. But, to be in a town that was so silent was disturbing enough. As they came across the tents, each guarded by higher ranking shinobi, the girl drug her assistant to the tenth tent. She wanted to be beside the medical head. Well, as close as she could. Why? The man was a better medic than she was…from observations alone anyway. That and she wanting to shadow him. If he made any discoveries in his own research, she would be close enough to hopefully overhear and apply it towards her little team’s success.

“You aren’t squeamish, are you Kirito?” she smiled as she entered the tent and randomly picked the first body. They didn’t reek of the deceased quite yet. Any decomposition had not produced that associated aroma. But, as expected of any dead body, their muscles had relaxed and their bowels were released. That produced a nasty scent, but she would get used to it in time. Pulling on a mask over her face, tucking her hair underneath a cap, gloving each hand, and draping her clothing with a shroud, she kneeled down in front of the first body. Clicking a small recording tool, she began her initial examination. “Patient is male. Middle aged. Quick examination shows no signs of struggle. There is no visible bruising, cuts, or scrapes on his body. Nails are dirty, but show no tissue or blood is underneath them. I’m beginning palpation to see if anything could be any internal cause.” With that, the girl focused her chakra into her palms and applied her gloved hands upon the body. As her energy flowed through the corpse’s body, she gave light palpation to the internal organs. Hopefully there would be something to be found…

*[Medical Diagnosis Technique]
C-Ranked Iijutsu
Prerequisite: 5 Iijutsu
Perhaps one of the most important Iijutsu techniques to date, the Medical Diagnosis Technique allows its users to probe another's body in search for medical answers. After focusing chakra into his/her hands, the user will begin to channel it into the patient's body. Using this chakra as an internal extension of his/her hand to feel for abnormalities and other issues, the user is often able to determine the problem after some time and concentration. In order for a thorough examination to provide sufficient answers, the user will focus for up to one (1) post, seeking signs of internal and external damage, organ malfunction and disease among other ailments. Although skilled medical-nin have the possibility to work faster, skill cannot be substituted in for thoroughness.

Kirito smiled at her comment, "Just a bit hungry, though I am sure once we get to work I will forget all about that. Kirito was just as happy as she was to be near the seniors tent, and because Inari had chosen this location, it made him happy that his partner was at least competent. When he looked out of the tent flap he could see that a few of the genin were still standing in formation a bit confused and it took several moments and a shout from the lead medical examiner to get things moving.

He glared at Kirito, then disappeared under his tent flap. "That one is intense," he said as he walked over to Inari who was already examining a body. He did as she did and prepped himself for the examination and then sat next to the body. The smell was quite unbearable, but once Inari started recording the young man kept his mouth shut, so as not to undermine the integrity of the autopsy.

Inari's investigations would reveal that there were some defects with the heart and liver. It would seem that whatever brought this on caused significant damage to the heart, and might still be present in the liver, since the liver was also showing signs of damage, though not as much as the heart. Kirito looked up at Inari, "Did you find anything?"
