[Graded][Plotboard] Departure

Post by Willoria » Wed Feb 14, 2018 10:10 pm

[Plotboard] A Summer's Raid Runar paced the docks. Sometimes he was down by the boat overseeing loading, sometimes he moved up to the land to make sure everyone was arriving on time. The raid would consist of multiple ships, his brothers scattered through the others, but his own would be leading it and despite his demeanor, Runar was nervous. He moved back down to his ship in time to find his younger sister standing there already, shield in hand with a bright blue Vegvisir painted on it and it brought a smile to his face. He gave the woman a big enough hug to lift her from the ground as she squealed and laughed, and it brought a smile to the man's face.

He got so wrapped up in seeing his sister honestly that he almost missed the approach of one of his more recent recruitments. The only reason he realized he was approaching was the way his sister gave a confused look, and looked past him. Runar simply grinned. "Good to see you made it." he called out.

[Graded][Plotboard] Departure

Aimi stepped onto the dock and looked around, viewing the various shinobi and dock workers as they went about their business. The docks were an area of the village that he rarely visited, being both on the outside of the third wall and on the opposite end of the Untouchable District meant that he didn't have much occasion to use the docks in the first place unless he was on a mission, and even then he expected the boat to be ready by the time he got there so they could leave immediately. It was much rarer, then, that he got to just stand on the docks and look around, to observe. He had all of the equipment he felt he needed with him, his sword, his two butt bags full of various tools and paper bombs, and the latest edition to his repertoire a scroll that hung onto his lower back, scrawled with fuuinjutsu to summon his case of swords any time he had need of it, which if the vague recollection of what Runar had told him that night at the Bloodriver Bar (the details were honestly a bit fuzzy to him given his frenzy, the only clear memories being the pain and the shame) had any merit at all, he believed he would.

His attention was taken off of the docks and over towards Runar, who had called out to him from one of the nearby ships. He immediately recognized the man who had so thoroughly broken his body and fought the urge to tense up in front of him. He rested his left arm on the pommel of his sword and placed his right hand on his hip as he walked over towards the large, powerful man who was apparently in the middle of hugging a woman, presumably one of the shield-maidens he vaguely remembered him mentioning a couple of weeks back. He stopped at the edge of the dock and looked down at the man. "Yes, well, you said that you needed me to come, and to be honest, I could do with blowing off some steam. I just got back from what should have been an easy escort mission and..." Aimi trailed off, thinking back on the hi-jinks that he had gotten involved in trying to get that damned fish person out of Water Country, which he ultimately hadn't been successful at thanks to the intervention of not just a shinobi from Kuro, but the rag-tag remnants of the Kage Kuraso or whatever they were called who had tried to ambush him along the way! It had all been such a big mess.

He let out a heavy sigh and focused again on Runar. "I don't want to talk about it. Is this everyone that's coming along on this raiding party?" he asked, hoping that the answer was yes and that he could help get what looked like many ships out of the dock so they could be on their way. He hadn't gotten too much information from Runar about this raid, nor had he bothered to ask the Karagata's about it... because why would he? So the finer points beyond them going to kill people, take stuff and take slaves were entirely lost on him.

Kuro had undergone the necessary preparations as if he was going on a mission, and in a sense he was... though it wasn't an official mission given by the village. No, this was a task he had been given as part of the recruitment of the newest member of the Seven; Karagata Rokuro, or as he preferred, Runar. The man had agreed to join the Seven, as if it was some kind of chore for him... Part of Kuro honestly wanted to reject him for that alone, but he held hope that the man would serve well if his conditions were met.

And so it was his duty to the village to come here and partake in this raid of his. Raiding, as far as he knew, meant lots of killing, stealing and kidnapping. He'd leave the pillaging and kidnapping to the others... but by the end of this, his blade would be stained with blood. When he finally showed up at the dock however, the last person he expected to see was Aimi. Sure, Runar had mentioned that he met with Aimi, but he hadn't expected the man to be accompanying them. "Good morning, and hello Aimi. I assume you'll be joining us on this endeavor?"

He greeted both Jounin with a salute despite being the same rank as them both. This would be the first time that Aimi had seen him since his promotion, and part of him wondered how the man would feel about them being equals now. His attention turned to Runar and the woman in his arms, assuming that the woman was no doubt somehow related to him. After all, their embrace didn't appear to that of lovers. "Are we ready to embark? I'd like to get this over with."

Runar released his sister, sending her off to finish getting supplies on the ship before he stepped back up on the dock with Aimi. "Sounds like a good story for a pint later." he remarked with a grin. He could see that the man was riled up and considering the carnage that had happened the last time he'd seen him upset he couldn't help but think this was perfect. "In the mean time, sounds like a great way for you get in some perfect carnage on this trip." he added with a bit of a chuckle, turning as he heard another voice.

"That's everyone now." he said as Kuro arrived. He was about to introduce the man when Kuro called Aimi by name which of course only made Runar laugh. "Good, you two know each other!" he said, shaking his head. Of course as Kuro made it clear he was in a rush to get things over with, Runar couldn't help another laugh. "Careful, short stack, you have a lot to prove. I wouldn't be in such a rush." he said, still laughing as he motioned the pair towards the boat.

"At least Aimi has already shown me his talent for death dealing. Only thing you've shown me is that you can be a pompous little shite." he added, still laughing as he took his place at the head of the boat, making a simple hand motion to his sister. Once the other two were on board, the boat would be loosed from the dock and each person took a seat on a rower's bench to start rowing out of the small inlet.

Aimi froze on the spot at the sound of Kuro's voice, sounding off not long after he had asked his question. The jounin half turned to face his, now, fellow jounin. He'd heard through the grapevine that the Aisu had been promoted since their last mission together dealing with that shadow organization thing. Kuro didn't look any different really, but the simple change in title pushed the wind out of his sails a bit. He was going to miss being able to freely boss the swordsman around. With his promotion, he was essentially on equal footing with the Yamai if not on higher ground because of his association with the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist. "Guten morgen, Kuro. I didn't realize that you would be on this expedition," he stated plainly. Runar hadn't told him that there would be anyone else coming along. He could only conclude that it was a last minute decision or something.

That said, Aimi turned back towards the laughing man and followed him onto the boat. The Yamai didn't take his seat at a rowing station like most everyone else did, though. He stood staring at a seat that he could have occupied, debating on if he wanted to perform the task or not and deciding that he truly didn't feel like it - nor did he feel like getting chewed out by the taller, stronger patriarch of this expedition or anyone else for that matter for a lack of contribution. He wanted no excuse to be possible for any of the ninja around him to speak ill of his character. So, turning his back on the rowing station, Aimi channeled his chakra and pushed out from his body a skeletal clone, the clone emerging ribs first from his back, pulling it's arms out of his shoulders and it's legs out of his hips, yanking it's skull out of his back. Aimi walked over towards the front of the boat and stood with his arms crossed while the skeletal clone went and took a seat next to another ninja who appeared slightly uncomfortable with the fact that there was now an animate skeleton sitting next to him, helping him row the boat.

Kuro couldn't help but roll his only visible eye at Runar as he mentioned the Aisu had "something to prove". All he'd need to do is look at his file to find that he had killed hundreds in the name of Kiri, and performed feats other shinobi were simply incapable of. Of course, that was all assuming the brute even knew how to read. He nodded in response to Aimi's greetings, despite the gibberish, then followed the two shinobi onto Runar's boat. "If it helps, I don't particularly want to Aimi. But I gave my worid I would, and so here I am. I'll slaughter some peasants, capture a few slaves, and we'll be on our merry way."

Most if not all of the benches appeared to be taken care of as far as rowing was concerned, and one of the few that wasn't was taken by a skeleton created by the Yamai, much to the dislike of the guy sitting next to it. Even Kuro couldn't help but laugh a bit at the man's unease, clearly he had never been around a Yamai very long. "So 'boss'... Where are we going, who are we killing and what are we stealing?" Kuro was pretty to the point on what he wanted to know. After all, there was no official mission report to read, and he hated going into a situation with no guidelines, no rules of engagement... nothing but "do what you want"

There was no order to that kind of thing. Some change he could deal with of course, but total chaos? That was lunacy to him.

[Graded][Plotboard] Departure

Runar was supposed to be standing at the head of the ship, watching the man at the aft as he drummed the beat for the rowers, and next to him would be a boy ten years younger than him with a trumpet made of the horn of some great beast. But as he watched Aimi use a skeleton to row for his portion, Runar had to cover his mouth to keep from snorting. He knew the man beside the skeleton, he was one of the few archers on the ship and had no trouble spilling blood. Yet the skeleton had him looking like a school girl dancing in fear at her seat, at least to Runar. It made it hard for the man not to laugh. Eventually he cleared his throat and shook his head, turning and grabbing a hold of the wood beside him and pulling himself up on the edge of the ship to look out ahead of them, using a nearby rope to hold himself up as he turned to look behind them. The man had no shirt, he was dressed for battle after all, not modesty. His ink, his scars, and his muscles were visible for any to see.

He watched a moment in silence as several ships pulled out behind them to follow and the big man grinned. He knew at least two had only enough crew to guide them, knowing those ships would soon enough be filled with loot and slaves. He heard Kuro's question though he didn't look down at him. "I have a coastline in mind." he said, knowing full well that probably wasn't specific enough to satisfy the Aisu. "I don't know the name of the place, I only know it is rich with land and able-bodied peoples ripe for slaves." he added, looking down at both the Yamai and Aisu below him. "They are farmers, some over sheep, some cattle, but most of them strong. They like to hide riches in their homes, hide it from people like us. But today we take it." He told them with a grin, using the rope again to turn and look out to the sea. A loud whistle and a hand motion to the man beside the drummer at the back of the ship and their course changed slightly. Once they were out of the cove it was another wave of the hand and the mast was dropped, oars were pulled in and the ship really began to move. A sound of the horn from the boy beside Runar and the other ships followed suit.

Aimi stood on the opposite end of the boat from Runar, who had positioned himself at the rear of the boat where a drummer and some lad with a horn stood, and looked out to the misty sea as they sailed further and further away from Kirigakure with a small fleet of boats following behind theirs. He kept his ears open even if he didn't look back at the jovial jounin and heard the exchange between Kuro and he. He frowned at the mention of slaves, realizing that the whole prospect of this trip made him uneasy for that reason alone. He never vocalized it, for doing so could be grounds for him getting punished by his clan at best or at worst killed by order of the Mizukage, but Aimi hated the fact that slaves existed within the village. Anyone who knew him wouldn't be surprised by this notion, given his parents, and would be just as equally unsurprised by his stance on the matter. He didn't plan on taking back any slaves. He planned, in fact, to kill as many people as possible, able bodied, resisting or not so as to save them from being abducted and brought back to the village to be slaves. His unease at this seemingly noble notion only grew, though, when he thought about Runar.

Runar seemingly had no problem bringing in slaves. In fact, he seemed to enjoy the idea much like he enjoyed everything else. He was by and large detached from the affair entirely, seeing it as a job or at worst a hobby in the mind of Aimi. He didn't consider the lives of those they were taking beyond that it was his obligation to do so. Aimi had never really looked into exactly how the nobles kept a stock of slaves before, he hadn't really had time to, but he supposed that this was how it had been done, how it had always been done as far as he knew. He imagined, as the signal was given and the sails were dropped, the boat increasing in speed as they left the cove that surrounded Kirigakure and sailed out into the open sea, his mother and father as youths on some far off shore, only to be kidnapped and brought to the village as slaves. He could only imagine how the two of them had managed to have a child in those circumstances, but he knew perfectly well what that child had grown up to be. The notion that he could do the same to others left a dark pit in his stomach.

He wouldn't be taking back any slaves. He refused to. Anyone he himself came across, anyone at all, would meet an end at his own hands before it came to that. Yet Runar would be there, likely watching him. Would he say anything to the Yamai? Would he call him out on his seemingly indiscriminate slaughter? If the time came that he was confronted, would he let the stronger man take those he had wanted to kill and spare in order to spare his own life? Aimi stared hard at the horizon ahead of them, gritting his teeth behind closed lips and grabbing onto his arms. The dark truth he didn't want to admit to himself was that yes, he would let him take people from beneath his sword if it came to that. Aimi's life was simply far too precious to give up for a stranger who couldn't even defend themselves. He wasn't so noble as to sacrifice himself, his experiences, his days to come and all the potential his life held for the sake of a potential slave. The unspoken realization made Aimi grow sullen and for the time being, he withdrew from the ship around him. His pale presence at the head of the mast could be easily ignored, the only real sign of his being there at all being the skeleton who, left without a paddle to row, simply sat next to the archer who continually looked unnerved at it's unflinching, hollow form. Truly, this man was spooked.

The information given by Runar honestly told Kuro very little about what they were doing, but ultimately Kuro really didn't care. the 'mission', if it could be called that, was incredibly simple, so it wasn't going to be a problem to not know where they were going. He knew what they were doing; murder and pillage and kidnapping. That's all that mattered. "Whatever, let me know when we're close I guess. I'll cover our approach with mist, they won't know what hit them until it's too late." Kuro went to stand beside Aimi, looking out to the ocean in thought.

"So why are you here Aimi? I'm being dragged along as part of trying to get this bastard into the seven, but from what I can tell you don't have any reason to be here. Just in it for the slaughter? Because that doesn't really seem like you... I always took you for the 'wants a worthy opponent' type." It was an assumption to be sure, but in their past mission Aimi didn't seem to take much interest in their previous mission until he was fighting with that Raven guy. It seemed an accurate assumption at least.

What the hell was he doing here? Was this Runar really worth this? Surely, with some more digging, he could have found some other possible candidates... ones that wouldn't prove to be this annoying...

Aimi didn't turn to face Kuro as he walked up beside him at first, his gaze keeping focused on the horizon out in front of them and continuing to ignore his surroundings as his foul mood festered. He turned to look at him as he spoke of his purpose for coming, telling him of how Runar was to be indoctrinated into the Seven Swordsman of the Mist, which came off as a surprise to Aimi. In his brief meeting with the man, he had taken him for the hand and fist type of fighter rather than any sort of swordsman. As he was questioned further about his purpose there, the Yamai simply stared at his fellow jounin for a few moments, debating within himself on how to answer. Should he tell him the truth of the matter? Flat out lie? Neither sounded like the sort of thing he wanted to tell Kuro. Honesty was his policy in just as much of a way as strength, but Kuro didn't know of his parents being slaves and now didn't feel like the proper time to let him in on that. Yet he wasn't going to lie to him either...

Half turning on the spot, Aimi looked towards and pointed at Runar further down the boat before explaining. "You see that man, Kuro? The one you're trying to recruit for your organization? The other night, he started a bar fight and I got caught in the middle of it. That man moved faster than I could see and struck harder than I could defend against, shattering my ribs and quelling my rage." Turning away from Runar, he looked back to Kuro and continued to speak. "I was under the impression that I was one of if not the fastest shinobi in the village, Kuro, never mind my strength. Come to think of it, you've yet to see me directly in the midst of a conflict, have you? Only the aftermath? Well, what I'm capable of is ultimately nothing compared to that man I fear - and before the bar fight, I'd never heard of him."

Turning back towards the front of the boat and looking out over the waters, Aimi said solemnly, "I'm here to train, so to speak. I'm here to watch Runar in action, to see what he does and how he does it, and learn how I might better myself from it. If that means slaughtering a few villagers... and help in securing more slaves for Kirigakure, then perhaps there is a lesson to be learned from the whole affair. If there isn't, I can still watch the man himself and learn something that way. That is why I'm here."

Kuro stared out to the sea himself, listening to what the Yamai had to say about his reasons for being here. Truth be told, Kuro had the same curiosities regarding Runar's abilities; This was as much his chance to see Runar work as it was Runar's to see Kuro. "Never a bad idea to pay some attention to your fellow shinobi. Training by yourself, you can only get so far. It's good of you to look elsewhere for a change." Kuro was surprised when he found out that Aimi had hardly ever paid any sort of attention to other shinobi and their accomplishments. It was practically unheard of.

Maybe Runar knocked a little sense into the Yamai, along with those broken ribs.

"The sooner we get done here the better personally. This is a waste of time in my book, I've got a half dozen things i'd rather be doing." Kuro definitely wasn't shy about voicing his displeasure with this whole trip. This wasn't an official mission, it wasn't even a task he had any interest in personally. It was literally something he was doing just to get some fresh blood in the seven, nothing more.
