*Suiton • Great Stream
C-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user expels a massive conical water torrent that drenches an area thoroughly, capable of soaking a meter down nearly instantly for soil and like materials. The cone has a base width of 15 meters and a range of 25 meters and travels at [Control] Speed, pushing things back with [Control] Strength.
Abari realized that it had been a while since he had practiced his ninjutsu. While swordsmanship was his main pursuit, he could not neglect the primary tools of a shinobi. So instead of his reading for the day, the boy made his way to the training grounds. After making it to his usual spot, Abari pulled out a scroll and began studying the instructions written within. It was a jutsu called 'Great Stream' and consisted of creating and launching a cone of water. It seemed simple enough. Rolling the scroll back up and putting it in his pocket, the boy started performing the correct hand seals.

After channeling Suiton chakra, a torrent of water launched from his hands. Though the boy was disappointed to find that it only traveled ten meters. Clearly he had not put enough chakra into it. After a quick shrug, the boy performed the hand seals once again, this time making sure to channel a significant amount of chakra. This time, the torrent of water was much stronger, but Abari could tell that he had hemorrhaged far too much chakra. Finding the proper chakra output was always a balancing act. With a sigh, the boy tried once more.

As he formed the hand seals, Abari focused on his chakra output. Chakra efficiency was key in a battle. So with careful observation of his chakra flow, Abari performed the jutsu and sent water shooting from his hands. The boy groaned as he realized that something must have gone wrong with his seals. The water was shooting straight instead of in the intended cone shape. This was starting to get annoying. The jutsu was far too simple for Abari to be struggling like this. He knew that if he managed to properly pull it off once, that he would have it down however, so he started over.

The boy slowly went through the seals to make sure he did not have another mishap. Abari focused on his chakra output, finding that right balance from earlier. With a deep breath, the boy launched water from his hands, pleased that he had finally performed the jutsu properly. A cone of water shot forth, going the full intended distance of twenty five meters. The boy checked the soil below, part of the function of this jutsu was to wet the ground. He was pleased to find that the damp soil went a meter down. Not giving himself time to rest, the boy moved on to the next jutsu.

*Suiton • Water Dragon Projectile
B-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user creates a dragon head of water. Once it has been created, the user can launch the three-meter diameter projectile towards a target at [Control] Speed and Strength for up to 40 meters. Following the head is a long body and tail, stretching nearly six-meters. During the course of it's travel, the user may alter the course of the dragon three times, allowing it to complete a U-turn per alteration.
Abari had been excited to learn this particular jutsu. It was a trademark of Suiton users. Opening the scroll, Abari studied its contents. The jutsu consisted of launching a powerful water projectile that took the form of a dragon head. Not only did it look cool, but you could redirect the attack as it traveled. Eager to give it a try, the boy quickly memorized the seals required for the jutsu. The boy took a deep breath and gave the jutsu a try. After performing the correct hand seals, the boy channeled enough suiton chakra to spawn the dragon head shaped projectile from his hands.

As the water dragon soared through the air, Abari focused on it and made it change directions. The projectile veered to the left and the boy smiled as he redirected it once more. Unfortunately however, as it turned again, the water dragon lost form and fell to the ground in a puddle. Abari let out a groan before trying once more. At some point his chakra control must have faltered. Putting more focus into this attempt, the boy performed the proper hand seals and paid close attention to the amount of suiton chakra he channeled into the jutsu. As the water dragon once again soared through the air, Abari urged it to change direction, maintaining focus on his chakra control. The projectile veered to the left before the boy once again made it change direction. He maintained exceptional control over his chakra as it turned to the right this time. Confident that he could change its direction one more time, the boy urged it to turn left once more. The boy was pleased to see that the jutsu moved according to his wishes, but there was one problem. Upon closer observation, the projectile was not near as large as it was supposed to be.

With a sigh, the boy started over and performed the jutsu once again. Careful performing the proper hand seals, the boy once again focused on his chakra output. This time when he launched the projectile he took note of its size. Thankfully, he had managed to make it six meters long from head to tail this time. With great focus, the boy redirected the projectile multiple times, ultimately ending in the water dragon crashing into the ground with great force. He smiled as he felt the power behind the attack. This would be a wonderful addition to his arsenal.

*Suiton • Pacifistic Domination
C-Rank Ninjutsu
Created to safely incapacitate opponents, after performing the correct hand seals, if the opponent is within 25 meters and is standing a top a body of water with the user's chakra in it, the user will begin to churn their chakra causing the water to turn into a vortex and engulf the opponent, trapping them in a vortex about two meters in diameter. Once the target is inside, the user must hold the last seal and cannot use any other techniques, capable of holding this for up to five posts. In order to escape, the target must have at least [Control] strength to physically make their way out, or the user must be disrupted. Most shinobi would pass out after two posts due to a lack of oxygen. However, if a target possesses an Endurance stat higher than 10, it would require three posts for them to pass out. Should the target possess an Endurance stat above 20, it would require five posts for them to pass out, but anything higher than 30 would allow them to resist passing out altogether.
The next jutsu that Abari wanted to train would require a training partner, so he invited Ren to his next training session. The man had been very helpful while Abari was training his swordsmanship and thankfully was willing to help with ninjutsu training as well. As Ren arrived, Abari was studying the contents of a scroll containing the details of the jutsu. It was a jutsu meant to be cast on an existing body of water. A vortex would be created with the intention of engulfing and trapping the opponent. The user had to maintain the seal and could not perform any other techniques while it was active, but so long as the enemy was stuck in the vortex, they would begin to drown.

After the boy was finished memorizing the details of the jutsu, he rolled the scroll back up and began walking onto a nearby lake. Once the two had made it a decent distance and were both ready, Abari started to perform the proper hand seals. After pouring suiton chakra into the water, the boy began to churn it, causing a vortex to form close to Ren. As it grew, the man was slowly pulled to the center before finally being completely engulfed. Abari held the seal as he made sure to not give his training partner a chance to escape. As Ren thrashed in an attempt to resurface, the boy’s chakra control started to wane. Frustrated at himself, the boy accidentally dropped the technique, causing the vortex to disappear.

Once Ren had signaled that he was ready for another attempt, the boy took a deep breath and tried again. Abari performed the proper hand seals and poured his chakra into the water once more. Focusing on his chakra control, the boy formed a vortex near his opponent that slowly grew in size. It was not long before Ren was pulled in and engulfed by the vortex. Keeping focus, the boy held the final seal and focused on maintaining control of the jutsu. Abari had figured out the trick on the second try. Instead of the normal straightforward flow of chakra, the vortex required a different rhythm to maintain it. So the boy kept that rhythm going as Ren thrashed in an attempt to escape the jutsu. The boy kept the jutsu up for a significant amount of time before dropping it. He could have kept going but he did not want to risk his training partner actually falling unconscious. After the man resurfaced, Abari apologized but was reassured that it was no big deal. Happy to hear Ren wasn’t bothered, the boy asked if he would be willing to practice one more jutsu for the day.

*Suiton • Water Encampment Wall
B-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user will expel a large amount of water from their body as a sweeping defense against hostile techniques. The water from the technique forms a cylinder around the user at [Control] Speed, and flows around the user. It is approximately 7 meters around and 2 meters thick, leaving only the top unprotected. The wall has the ability to deflect things with [Control] Strength, but even if something break through, the walls thick nature makes traversing through the water fully troublesome. The wall lasts up to three posts unless dispelled earlier by the user or destroyed.
Happy that Ren was willing to help him train another jutsu, the boy pulled out his next scroll and read its contents. It contained the details of a defensive jutsu that consisted of creating a wall around the caster to protect against incoming attacks. The only catch was that it could not protect against attacks from above. After memorizing the hand seals required to pull the jutsu off, he explained the plan to Ren. All he needed the man to do was attack the water barrier while steadily increasing force.

When the boy was ready, he put the scroll away and started performing the appropriate hand seals. After channeling the sufficient amount of suiton chakra, water burst from Abari's body. With the barrier created, the boy signaled for Ren to start striking. A series of kunai and shuriken were thrown at Abari but were easily deflected by the barrier before dropping to the ground. It was to be expected, Ren wasn’t that strong. Next the man charged forward and threw multiple punches and kicks. While they had a lot more force behind them than the thrown weapons from earlier, each attack was deflected by the current and thrown off course. Continuing his barrage, Ren drew his sword and began slashing at the barrier. The sharper attacks managed to break through the water but none of them reached the boy. The more the man attacked however, the more openings were created in the barrier until eventually, Ren was able to make his way through and bring his blade to Abari’s throat.

With a smile, Abari called for one more round, asking Ren to use ninjutsu this time around. He needed to know how well his barrier could hold up against ninjutsu. Once again performing the appropriate hand seals, the boy channeled suiton chakra, conjuring a significant amount of water from his body. With the barrier created, Ren started to perform hand seals of his own. Shortly after, rocks came slamming into the water with significant force, but not enough to break through the barrier. The boy did his best to look out for the next attack. One of the potential downsides he now noticed was the reduced visibility from inside the barrier. Barely noticing in time, the boy dodged an incoming projectile. Another rock shot at a much faster speed than before pierced right through the jutsu and nearly hit the boy. Ren was much better at ninjutsu than Abari had initially realized. Dropping the barrier, the boy thanked his sparring partner for the help.

Abari's Dedication 2: Electric Boogaloo

Stat Training #1

The time had come for Abari to acknowledge his embarrassing lack of strength. For a self proclaimed taijutsu specialist, he had a surprising lack of muscle mass. At least compared to his fellow shinobi, that was. Skill with the blade could compensate, but a true warrior possessed both skill and strength in harmony. So the boy decided to set aside some time to purely focus on strengthening his muscles. Remembering his time spent with his old trainer, Abari decided to perform some of the exercises that they had taught him. Starting simple, the boy dropped to the ground and did push-ups. Making sure to engage every muscle, Abari went extremely slow, knowing that good form was more important than number of repetitions. It was easy at first, the boy was not so weak that he could not manage a thousand push-ups. That being said, it was not long after reaching the five hundred mark that Abari started to feel the burn. It wasn't just his arms and shoulders, but his lower back and core as well. It was a good sign that he was keeping proper form.

Abari could easily double the amount of push-ups but he was going painfully slow to ensure he got the most out of each rep. In the short amount of time the boy spent with his old trainer, he had put on considerable muscle. It was a shame that he never kept up with that training. That meant he would have to work twice as hard to try and make up for his laziness. As the boy’s muscles continued to scream at him, he did his best to try and push it from his mind. A shinobi was disciplined enough to ignore a high level of pain, exercise was no different. Abari was coated in sweat by the time he hit his seven hundredth push up. He thanked the mist for protecting him from the sun. The boy was steadily approaching his unspoken goal of a thousand push-ups. Even going as slow as he was, it would be an easy feat for many shinobi of his rank. It just went to show how much the boy had been slacking on his physical training. Cursing his weakness, Abari wiped the sweat from his brow before continuing. It was a pointless endeavor however as new beads of sweat immediately took the place of the old ones. As the boy's arms started to wobble, he thought back to his trainer.

Come on, are your arms really giving out already? I thought you were a warrior! Dig deeper, I know you are holding out on me!

Smiling at the memory, Abari drew more strength from within, not allowing his arms to quit. There was something different about the way Masaru pushed the boy beyond his limits. While Abari was constantly crumbling under the expectations of his family and village, he was always eager to meet the standards of his old trainer. The boy hoped to meet him one more time when he was a high enough rank to have more freedom in leaving the village. Despite his arms wavering, Abari did not stop. Through gritted teeth he counted his last hundred push-ups.

“Nine hundred… Nine hundred and one… Nine hundred and two”

As tempting as it was to rush towards the end, he did not allow himself to speed up. At this point it felt like every muscle in his body was begging him to stop. The boy was starting to worry that he might fall short of his goal. As sweat continued to drip from his face onto the ground, his mind wandered back to his training sessions with Masaru.

When it comes to getting stronger you’re your own worst enemy, kid. Stop worrying about what you can and can’t do. Redirect the energy you would spend doing that to your training! Let’s go another round but this time I want you to quit fucking doubting yourself.

Believing in himself was something Abari could never fully grasp. The very idea was anathema to him. He could fake it at the start but once the going got tough, he could not help but fixate on his weakness. The boy’s old trainer said he had a horrible habit of comparing himself to those around him, but how else was one supposed to measure their worth? Deciding to get out of his own way for the time being, Abari cleared his mind of any thoughts that did not pertain to his push-ups. Just ten push-ups left. He was so close to his goal now, but his arms were beginning to buckle. The boy had never been one to make noise while exercising, but at this point he was unable to complete a push-up without a grunt of exertion. With just three push-ups left, Abari’s arms gave out, causing his face to drop into the ground. The feeling of defeat threatened to overtake him, but the boy could not allow himself to quit, not while he was so close. After taking a few seconds to catch his breath, Abari tried for another pushup. Once again, his arms wobbled but with a roar, he pushed through.

“Nine hundred and ninety-eight!”

With labored breathing, the boy tried to pry out what little strength he had left from within. Abari let out another roar as he forced himself through his next pushup.

“Nine hundred and ninety-nine!”

After finishing the pushup, the boy’s arms gave out again. They had gotten weak enough to where he could barely lift himself up for the final push up.

Come on! Just one more! I can do this!

Gritting his teeth, Abari dug deep and expended the last bit of energy he could muster. His arms almost gave out but the boy let out a warcry to push himself through to the end.

“ONE THOUSAND!”

Wasting no time, Abari dropped to the ground to catch his breath. As much as he wanted to take pleasure in his accomplishment, he knew this was just the first day of many. On the bright side, he was done for the day. With heavy arms that had nearly lost all feeling, the boy stood up and started walking towards his favorite restaurant, chuckling as he remembered more of his trainer’s words.

Good job today, kid. Now go fill your stomach. A good diet will maximize the fruits of your labor.

Abari's Dedication 2: Electric Boogaloo

Stat Training #2

In his mission to get stronger, Abari had figured out a decent training regimen for building his muscles. Push-ups were a great exercise that target multiple muscle groups in the upper body as well as the core. With that in mind, squats were the perfect exercise to compliment that. Not only would they work out the lower body, they would also continue to work his core. A strong core was essential for balance and stability, which were key when it came to the more intricate kenjutsu techniques. Settling on a goal of one thousand squats for the day, Abari got started. Just like he was doing with his push-ups, the boy purposefully went slow and prioritized form. The first few hundred were easy. He was a lot stronger than some run-of-the-mill athlete. Even the most basic of shinobi training was enough to skyrocket you above the civilians around you. He wondered how far the average person could go while going as slowly with each repetition that Abari had been. Ultimately, the boy decided that comparing himself to non-shinobi was a pointless endeavor. Being stronger than some slummer was not exactly impressive for a Chuunin. Catching himself looking down on people who were unable to utilize chakra, the boy thought back to something Masaru had told him.

Shinobi get far too complacent. They can not wrap your head around the idea that people outside the village can beat you. You lot figure that just because you can shoot a fireball, you have the advantage. But there are people that spend the time you spend learning jutsu to further train their body. I fought a missing ninja once who was shocked to find that I closed the gap and broke his fingers before he could finish doing his hand signs. What I’m trying to say is don’t ever get comfortable, kid. Keep training.

The boy shook his head as he realized that he fell right into the same pattern his trainer described. There was no time like the present to remedy that. At the five hundred mark for squats, Abari was feeling the burn. While his legs had always been much stronger than his arms, the boy's back muscles hurt more doing squats than push-ups. It was starting to become a struggle to keep his back straight. But sloppy exercises would not do him any favors when it came to getting stronger. So he grit his teeth and tried to keep his focus on keeping good form. It worked for a while, but after a certain point, his legs started to wobble and his back begged for mercy. Eight hundred squats at such a slow speed was quite the accomplishment, but Abari had set a goal and he was determined to reach it. Wiping the sweat on his brow, the boy took a brief moment to catch his breath. It was enough time for him to draw some more strength from within before getting back to it. With a deep breath, the boy thought back to more of Masaru’s words.

While you do have to be careful not to overtrain, don’t use that as an excuse to quit early. Listen to your body, it will tell you if you have more energy buried in you. If your legs start feeling heavier than normal, if you are consistently performing at a lower level, or if you’re sore for much longer than usual, then you know you’ve been working too hard. Push yourself hard, but make sure to rest properly afterwards. Now get back out there and run a few more laps around the dojo.

Abari’s old trainer had pointed out that the boy had a bad habit of pushing himself too far for too long only to quit due to his perceived weakness. It never stopped him from training, it just prevented him from being able to focus on a single area. This and his obsession with practicing his swordsmanship was what kept him from building strength when it mattered. So no matter what, the boy was going to stick to his new training regimen.

Abari’s determination started to waver at the nine hundred and eighty squat mark. It was not a matter of being in too much pain, it was more that his legs no longer seemed to want to cooperate. It was way too late in the game to quit, but the boy was unsure of how much further his body could carry him. During a short break, he thought back to his trainer once more.

The last few repetitions are the most crucial. Not necessarily for building your muscle, but for your mental state. Every time you push yourself through to the end, you prove to yourself that you are capable.

Finding the last bit of motivation left within, the boy got back to his workout. As much as he wanted to, now was not the time to quit. If nothing else, he had to meet his goal for the day. So through gritted teeth, the boy grunted with exertion as he counted down the last squats in his head. Focusing on his goal, Abari cleared all outside thoughts from his mind, only focusing on reaching one thousand squats and controlling his breath while doing so. With just five squats left, the boy once again wiped the sweat from his brow and gave himself some encouragement.

You can do this. You’re right there!

With just two more squats left, the boy’s legs buckled, sending him to the ground. With a groan, Abari got back up and started again. The end was in sight, he wasn’t going to stop no matter what. With wobbling legs, the boy finished another squat. When he went to perform the last squat, his legs threatened to give out once more. Letting out a scream in order to draw out the last bit of strength, the boy finished his final squat. With his goal met, Abari dropped to the ground and proceeded to catch his breath. For a brief moment, the boy was proud of himself, but that feeling was quickly replaced with the realization that he’d have to do it all over again tomorrow. Well, at least he didn’t quit.

Abari's Dedication 2: Electric Boogaloo

Post by ThatGuy » Wed Nov 01, 2023 10:54 pm

Stat Training #3

If there was one physical attribute that Abari had the advantage over his peers, it was speed. There were plenty of shinobi who were much faster, but the boy was far from slow. People say to play to your strengths, so he decided to work on his speed. Plus, he could use a short break from his intensive strength training. It had been a while since he had done some reflex training. Luckily, he knew someone who was always willing to help him train.

After meeting Ren at the training grounds, the boy explained the process to him. It was extremely simple. They would have a sparring match like they normally do but this time, Abari would not be allowed to fight back. It was a rough way to train as every failed dodge would result in a full force hit to the face, but there were few better ways to motivate yourself to react faster. So after preparing himself for some pain, he called for the start of the training. Ren dashed forwards and threw a couple of jabs, feeling his opponent out. Abari effortlessly swatted the attacks aside and waited for the inevitable follow up. Ren threw a straight and in response the boy swayed under the attack only to be caught off guard by a short uppercut. With little time to react, Abari threw his head back and narrowly avoided the attack. The act made him stumble backwards and Ren wasted no time in hitting the boy in the chest with a front kick. The attack knocked the wind out of Abari and sent him falling onto his back. After catching his breath, he got back up and requested another round.

For the next few days Abari and Ren spent the majority of the time sparring. The process had earned the boy more than his fair share of bruises, but he was making clear improvement. Even in such a short amount of time, his progress was significant. Sometimes instead of a physical improvement, a change in mental state was all that was needed to take one to the next level. As the sun started to set on another day, the boy asked Ren to do one more round of sparring. Ren was a much better hand to hand fighter than he was a swordsman. Even with the high number of sparring matches they had had over the last few days, they were still finding ways to catch Abari off guard. He could not have asked for a better sparring partner.

Ren closed the distance and feinted a jab to disguise his true attack: a leg kick. Abari simply took a couple steps back and was caught by surprise as Ren followed up with a jumping heel kick. The red-haired swordsman narrowly avoided what would certainly have been a knockout blow. His sparring partner was relentless as they leapt towards him immediately after recovering. Abari was not given much time to regain his balance before a flurry of jabs were aimed at his head. With no time to think, all the red-haired swordsman could focus on was dodging the attacks. As he weaved his head in between the strikes, it became apparent that his reaction speed had improved. Ren read Abari's movements and let his opponent fall into a pattern before deceptively cutting one of his jabs short and instead throwing an elbow. The red-haired swordsman did his best to dodge but unfortunately was unable to evade in time. His quick reaction saved him from getting knocked out at least as he was able to move just enough to protect his temple. With blood running down from a fresh gash above his eyebrow, Abari performed some hand seals. Upon completion he stopped the bleeding with Iijutsu.

“Sorry about that. Do you want to call it a day?”

“No, that was good. I want to try one more time before the day ends.”

With that, Abari shook off the pain and prepared himself for one last round of sparring. The red-haired swordsman took a deep breath and tried to clear his mind. As a sense of calm washed over Abari, his opponent charged towards him and threw a couple of jabs. Rather than trying to read the moves, he simply let his body react to the minute movements of his opponent’s. If he was able to maintain this state then he would no longer fall into Ren’s traps. With only the slightest of head movement, Abari dodged the jabs while he stepped backwards to maintain the distance between them. A hook to the body was thrown but the red-haired swordsman circled his opponent and avoided it. Next was a head kick which Abari simply ducked under before noticing the warning signs in his opponent’s stance. Ren threw a low sweeping kick that the red-haired swordsman was able to jump over. Giving his opponent plenty of time to recover, Abari tried to stay in his flow state. After taking up a fighting stance once more, Ren changed gears and started throwing much more efficient punches. The cheeky bastard had been holding back. With an empty mind, Abari continued to weave in between his opponents punches even as they increased in speed and sharpness. Kicks were mixed into the barrage of strikes but the red-haired swordsman remained unscathed. It took a few minutes of constant attacking before Ren finally started to lose steam. This would not prove to be much of an advantage however, as Abari found himself losing focus. In one last exchange, the red-haired swordsman dodged a combination of punches and kicks before suddenly feeling a sharp pain on his foot. Abari could hardly believe it. Ren had just stomped on his foot and completely broken his focus. Unable to use his footwork, Abari brought his arms down to block an incoming body blow only to be surprised by the overhand right that slammed into his jaw.

Abari awoke to Ren apologizing profusely. It seemed that his competitive spirit had burned a little too bright at the end there. But the red-haired swordsman insisted that there was nothing to apologize for. Thanks to Ren’s unpredictability in combat, Abari was able to significantly improve his combat speed. With a smile and a handshake, Ren spoke.

“So… Same time tomorrow?”

After performing the needed seals, the user will channel Chiton chakra into roughly 5 pints of blood. The blood will then take expand and take the shape of the user. This clone is capable of using any chiton jutsu the user knows, using the five pints of blood stored within it as a medium for jutsu requiring blood. The clone can also absorb blood to replenish the 5 pints of blood. If the clone is destroyed while storing 5 pints of blood, the clone will regenerate but will be unable to absorb more blood or use Chiton jutsu. The Clone has stats equal to the user, and lasts for 5 posts.
Abari had been so focused on the offensive jutsu that he’d forgotten about one of the most useful Chiton techniques: the Red Diamond Clone. It was a clone that could regenerate once so long as it had five pints of blood stored within it. Not only that, it could use any Chiton jutsu that Abari knew. Given his focus on kenjutsu, a clone like that would be fantastic combat support. So Abari was eager to unfurl the scroll and read its contents. He wondered why he had not taken the time to learn this sooner seeing as it was a very simple jutsu.

After performing the correct hand seals, he channeled Chiton chakra to create a duplicate of himself. Once it was fully formed, Abari used Muramasa to create a puddle of blood for the clone to use. From there he had the clone use Chiton jutsu. His doppleganger channeled Chiton chakra into the blood and created five senbon that it then shot into the distance. Satisfied with the results, Abari had it perform one more jutsu. This time the clone used the blood stored within itself to create a weapon. For added measure, he commanded his copy to perform Yoshin techniques and was pleased to see that it had every bit of skill with the blade as the original.

With that, there was only one more thing to test. Abari drew his sword and cut his duplicate in half. Rather than disappear like a normal clone, the blood from within it stretched out to close the wounds and pulled the clone back together. This was a great trick for one’s clone to have in their back pocket. Happy that the clone was everything it was supposed to be, Abari cut it in half once more and rather than regenerating, the blood simply dispersed onto the floor. It was an easy to learn technique, but it would serve him well in the battles to come.
