Kozan had lead Renji around the building, their job to flank the building and attack it from behind while Hisato, Mondai and Yuuto drew the opponent's attention. They had stalked through the trees and had gotten just south of the building when the commotion broke out. "This is your mission.", Kozan said to Renji flatly. It was clear Kozan didn't care what happened to any of the other shinobi on this mission, this was his opportunity to test Renji and Renji's opportunity to show them all what he was made of. He wanted Renji to prove his worth, and that meant that Renji would need to out perform the other shinobi, or at least make sure his role was central to their success. Show that he was truly a good weapon for Kirigakure.

However, as one of the targets burst through the front door and began to ran, Kozan's eyes thinned scanning the man and his attire momentary before gesturing to Renji. "On him. Now!", the urgency from Kozan's voice seemed almost unnatural, but it was clear he was calling an audible. Renji needed to kill this man running. He was running at [20 Speed], charging up the pathway that lead away from the building, he was clearly trying to get away. However, the pathway Kozan and Renji had put on put them roughly 30m ahead of him and only away from the wide path. They would be able to intersect with him if Renji acted quick enough. He was seemingly abandoning his comrades, Kozan would not allow anyone to escape. "No survivors. Terminate any enemies.", he ordered. Now, though, he pulled himself back allowing Renji to take the lead. Clearly intending to respect what he had said before.

How would Renji operate when he was in the hot seat?

Dashing through the tree lines, Renji prepared a bone sword from his kneecap, sheathing it in his waist. Renji was primarily a swordsman and when it came to killing he would be lopping heads off with his venomous bone blades. Renji followed behind Kozan and headed around the building. They found a vantage point and stopped for a moment to make the mission clear. Kozan told Renji, flatly, that the mission was up to him. Renji nodded and began to confirm Kozan's trust in him when he was interrupted.

Out of the corner of Renji's eye he saw a man dash from out of the compound and into the woods. Renji was quick to see it, and when Kozan gave him the kill order Renji was at the ready. The chuunin put together some hand seals and formed a portal just head of where the man was running. Renji ad to compensate his slowing casting time for the mans fast dash but he was succesful. Renji rarely missed. A portal opened under the man's legs and four, ashy, black hands reached out and grabbed the man. They held him down and he fell to the ground. As the man fell Renji formed ten bone bullets on his fingers and from the bushes he shot the escapee in the neck with three bullets, killing him instantly.

"Right." Renji said and continued to stay crouched down in the bushes. The arms that had held the man were fading and the two ninja could hear people screaming. It seemed that Kozan and Renji were the last ones to get their hands dirty. Renji stood up from the bushes and motioned with his shoulder for Kozan to follow his lead. Renji was a natural leader.

Renji ran towards the door channeling the Hidden Mist Jutsu.

Renji would move quick on his prey, and Kozan’s eyes would thin watching his young dagger with a discerning glare. The chuunin was quick, and he would use his spiritual power to trap the target locking him in place. Kozan would watch as he descended on his prey, shaking his head disapprovingly as he saw Renji’s mistake. Renji’s projectiles would collide with the man’s neck and for a moment he would go limp before poof vanishing into a puff of smoke, an entire bush replacing him. ”Kawarimi.”, Kozan muttered under his breath, his eyes scanning the area before landing on the man about 20m further up the path from where Renji had attacked him.

It was a basic jutsu, but it had served its purpose of preventing Renji’s killing strike. It was clear killing these guys was not going to be as easy as Renji though. Kozan would leap through the trees, trailing the man continuing to watch Renji, ”There are no survivors.”, Kozan would call out to Renji, ordering him on the man who was running.

The fleeing shinobi would hear this, clearly panicking at the fact that he was being hunted. He would begin weaving hand seals and then leap into the air, spinning his body as he did so and spitting back at Renji. Now roughly 30 meters up the path, a wide spray of water would surge through the air, spraying through the trees and onto the ground all the way back to Renji and practically 25m in width. The trees would instantly begin to creak, and if Renji was hit, he would feel burning on his skin from the hot, sticky fluid that had been sprayed. Kozan, still in the trees, would watch ad the fluid that had gotten on his chest burned against the truthseeker he wore as armor. His eyes thinning again, he would continue to watch Renji. What would the dagger do against acid?

Acid Spray
C-rank Suiton Ninjutsu
The user does a series of hand seals than forms chakra in their mouth. Within the next 2 posts, they can spit out the the chakra, causing a wide funnel of acidic water to fly from their mouth into the surrounding area. The funnel covers 40m from the user, and spreads out to 25m in width. On contact, it causes burning with [Control] strength, and can weaken the integrity of non-chakra reinforced objects by -5 strength (trees, buildings, walls, etc) making it useful for clearing out obstacles.

Chasing after the man who had just performed a Substitution Jutsu, Renji realized quickly that he was going to have quite a challenge ahead of him. It would take ingenuity and masterful execution. The ninja might've smiled, but he was very much focused on the ninja ahead of him, and he wasn't the type to express joy in times of stress. When Kozan confirmed that there were no survivors Renji's resolve to slay this ninja hardened and he began theorizing how he would catch this bastard. The man was just a bit slower than him, and Renji was confident. He held his hand at the bone blade wedged inside of his hip, ready to attack when he got close enough.

When the ninja heard that there were no survivors it seemed his resolve would harden as well. Renji had been chasing, but until now it had been just a chase. The ninja leaped into the air and swiveled around, spraying a strong acid throughout the woods. Immediately Renji took to the trees. He was an intelligent battle strategist, and Renji understood that for Suiton techniques to affect you, you needed to touch them. The look on Renji's face was of pure horror when he found that the liquid sprayed was an acid that eroded the trees. Nevertheless he kept pursuing the ninja, hopping from tree top to tree top as they were falling in the wide breadth of acid.

It wasn't long that Renji hopped through the forest before he got within range of the ninja. Renji locked onto the ninja's position, he could see him clearly from the back. The guy was wearing a scruffy black and green sweater. It had some kind of graphic on it, but Renji didn't bother trying to make it out. Instead the Dagger tightened his grip on the blade he was holding at his hip and dashed forward at 21 Speed. Renji was fast, vaulting over the treetops and dissecting the range between him and his target.. As he got close enough, Renji struck forward with his bone sword. He aimed directly for the small of his opponents back with 14 Strength. Once he finished with the slice, Renji hopped back to the tree he was previously jumping from. It was almost fell over, but there was enough time for Renji to assess the situation before he continued his assault.

Renji’s target ran at about a 18 speed pace, his heavy breathing and huffing suggesting he was going as fast as he could. As Renji closed in on him, his panicked face would suddenly smooth over and his heavy breathing would turn to a calm and steadied pace. Renji would strike at the man’s back and suddenly, he would surge forward at [30 Speed], his body suddenly blurring as Renji would strike true into…nothing. The attack had been a failure, and as quick as Renji struck, his target would strike even quicker, turning around and swinging a fist at Renji’s jaw with [15 Strength], before leaping backwards and twisting back through the air, landing on his feet and rushing forward now with 25 speed. ”That the best you got??”, he shouted at Renji.

Kozan continued tracing them, staying in the foliage and from the distance. He wouldn’t help Renji in this situation unless the dagger failed. If he did, Kozan would take out the target, failure wasn’t an option after all. But for now, he would continue to let Renji be tested. So far, the target had outwitted Renji not once, but twice, not a good sign for the young dagger. But, Kozan was battle hardened with ample experience, both first and second hand, in situations like this.This might not be Renji’s first exposure to situations like this, but it was certainly one of the more high stakes settings. How would the kaguya response to being in such a situation?

A furrowed brow would form on Kozan’s face as he watched, telling Renji all he needed to know. He was not impressing his Sword right now.

Speed Trap
C-rank Taijutsu Maneuver
The user will intentionally slow down, taking the time to focus energy into their muscles as they do so. Then, when releasing the energy, they will burst forward, giving them +5 speed for 3 posts, at the cost of -5 strength. However, during this time, the sudden shift in speed will cause them to momentarily ‘blur’ to people slower than them, allowing for the correct release of this maneuver to disorient, confuse and cause opponents to miss attacks.

As Renji carried through with his bone sword, the ninja did some kind of body blurring and dodged the attack. As Renji doubled back the ninja let out a strike and confidently let out a retort. Renji wasn't moved by the ninja at all. He was focused on his mission and achieving absolute success. Renji didn't reply to him.

Renji was standing on a collapsing tree about 5 meters from the ninja. The tree would only last 2 more post before the acid dissolved it fully into the ground, but that was enough time for Renji to do what he planned to do. The Dagger stared at the ninja, his piercing red eyes digging into the mans soul. Renji didn't understand the role he blayed in this, but he certainly wasn't going to let this man get away with anything. The wind was blowing at the top of the sinking tree, Renji's robes dancing in the wind. He had his brow furrowed as he performed a series of hand seals.

When his short display of hand seals was over Renji reached into the portal that had formed around his stomach. His arm seemed to phase away and he was elbow deep in his own guts. Quickly Renji pulled out a spectral sword and tossed it into the air between him and the ninja. The sword glowed a bright, deep forest green color and shined faintly in the daylight. It looked quite ghostly.

As soon as the sword began floating on it's own Renji commanded it to fly forward with 17 Speed and Strength, and stab the ninja in the guts. It was a mental command and Renji needed to maintain nearly complete focus to be quick with the blade, but he prodigious enough that the Dagger could form bone bullets on his fingers on each of the tips of his fingers. He waited for the ninja to make his dodge, then Renji would attack again with the venomous bone bullets.

D-Ranked Ninjutsu
The user performs a series of hand seals and then opens a portal in front of their stomach. The user reaches into their stomach and can pull out a spectral sword. The sword will float around the user and can be used to attack in a 10 meter range of the user, with [Control] Speed and Strength. This jutsu lasts for 3 posts before the sword fades away.

Death Bone Pulse • Ash Bone Drilling Finger Bullets
B-Ranked Taijutsu
The user will ossify the tip of their fingers and create a bullet shaped projectile at each of the tips. For 5 posts the user to able to fling any number of these projectiles with individual Strength and Speed. The bullets can fly 60 meters before falling to the ground.
