A lone howl broke out across the desolate desert landscape, calling the night to a close with the coming of dawn. The gray haze of morning slowly crept into the barren sky, making way for the scorching sun as it began its ascent into the heavens. As the haze strengthened, it blotted out all traces of what was once a brilliant canvas of constellations.

The three ninja stood at the gate of their illustrious and beloved village, about to depart on a mission that would bring further honor and glory to the name of Sunagakure no Sato. Their mission was simple, and they had been briefed. They needed only to purge an ancient archive of its equally ancient caretakers. The journey would be long and arduous, but rewarding upon completion. All that needed to be done was for the ninja to take the first step, then follow it by another

(OOC: Cdf wants me to do this, due to my posting habits. :P Basically, Unten/Oben will stay silent/not do things, until needed, so you can have Hito/etc go along for a while.)
Being inside of Hito, the twins knew that it'd be a lot better for them to stay inside during the trip to their destined location. Not only would it make it easier to fake out anyone or anything that saw them, but it would also let them reserve their stamina for any fights that broke out.

Hito moved with haste out of the village. He was extremely motivated, more than he usually was; and that's saying something. This mission was extremely important, both for the Scribes Of the Sand and Suna as a whole. He could not fail. He would not fail.

With motivation, Hito started his journey through the desert to the hidden library.

As the ninja sped through the desert, he (or they, I didn't know if Oreo's nin can see) would see a great many things that were nothing out of the ordinary for one who was raised in the desert. They passed numerous small desert animals, none of which proved even the slightest bit of threat to the seasoned shinobi, and even came upon a nomadic tribe as they prepared to move on to a better spot.

Soon enough, the ninja would reach a barbed-wire fence that seemed to have been erected with the intent to keep intruders out. No other visible impedance could be seen, and the fence seemed to be encircling nothing. As far as the eye could see there was nothing but sand past the fence.

Hito couldn't help but feel good as he walked through the desert. He knew these lands just as well as, if not better than, the Eidolons. He didn't recognize the nomadic tribe they came across and made a mental note to do some research on them later.

Because of his familiarity with the wind country's desert, Hito found it strange that the library was where he was told it was. He would have known if such a huge structure was in his desert. But he understood once he arrived at the large fence that seemed to be encircling nothing.

Hito made another mental note to destroy this fence once he takes over the library. It was like a giant sign telling everyone where this hidden library was. But for now, he just appreciated the fact that locating the place was made easy for him.

As he approached the gate, he moved slowly. He actually crouched and crept towards it, thinking as he examined the other ends of the fence. Doing some quick math and geometry, locating the center-most point from the radius of the fence, he attempted to pinpoint the library.

Moving with care, Hito crept towards the dune of sand he expected the library to be hidden under. As he moved, he performed the Henge no jutsu, changing his black outfit into a golden color that matched the sand around him. Hopefully disguising him at least a considerable amount.

With the approximate position of the library chosen, it seemed that all Hito had to do was to start digging. This would have been quite easy if it had not been for the fact that he had begun to mold chakra. The moment he released the simple jutsu he was tagged. As he drew nearer to the dune that he had deemed the most likely for the structure to be hidden beneath, a strange sound filled the air. It was a sound that could be likened to that of a horde of cicada at the peak of mating season. The sound seemed to have no other source than the sand itself. If the ninja glanced down at the sand beneath his feat, he would see the sand shifting, rather rapidly changing the ground on which the ninja stood into a massive pit of insects.

The ninja had little time to react, as the speed of the shifting was causing footing to be less than predictable. Not only was the ground beneath the ninja changing, but also the entire area surrounded by the fence was rapidly becoming black with the insects. The sound soon rose to a roar, rendering verbal communication useless even if one were to shout into the other’s ear. Nothing but the insects could be heard.

Hito cursed inwardly. Whatever he did, he caused a reaction. Maybe he was seen, maybe he tripped something or maybe it was his jutsu. Either way, shit was hitting the fan, and fast.

A mass of insects was rising rapidly and surrounding Hito and the twins. Without even bothering to contact the twins and lose time, Hito reacted quickly. Assuming they were regular insects, he performed a quick set of hand seals, allowing the weak generic barrier to surround him and hopefully keep him safe. Considering, however, how a mass of insects just rose up from the desert floor, there was also another possibility.

Staring intently at the bugs from within his barrier, and if his barrier didn't work, staring right at the bugs; Hito performed the Kai hand seal. This seemed a lot like a genjutsu, and he was hoping he was well versed in the art enough to trump this jutsu they might be in.

The insects remained even after the ninja had tried to disrupt them, and at the use of the barrier, all of them began to move toward him, eventually climbing upon one another and creating a dome over Hito's dome, and just outside of it. They seemed to be attracted to the use of chakra. Soon no light could reach the interior of the wind barrier.

Oben, readying himself, undone the scroll, poking out a bit from Hito's body. He knew exactly what was needed; fighting fire with fire.

Unsummoning Corruption, he started his task. Connecting his strings, he started up the production of the parasites. In a few seconds, they started popping out of the puppet, then, upon the command of Oben, and therefore Corruption, started to climb on the undersides of the barrier, much like the insects had done to the top side. As they completely covered it, Oben had the puppet continue the production, just in case more parasites were needed.

'Release the barrier at the count of three. When you do, I'll have all the current bugs explode, destroying all that's around them, and, since the explosions aren't massive, we'll be safe inside... just... duck a bit... okay?'

The plan would be pretty nice and pretty~ Even with exploding bug guts everywhere.

By applying the needed chakra to already created parasite eggs, Corruption is able to cause stored eggs to hatch. The parasites that are created are about two inches long and one inch wide. These are chakra-based entities, and, by themselves, are only able to burrow into different things, ranging from flesh to clothing. They aren't able to travel through anything stronger than that, though. The parasites are much stronger than their egg form, being able to take hits to up to 6 strength hits before disappating or a B ranked jutsu. Unlike other chakra based entities, these parasites are fully corpereal, and are able to be hit by all sorts of attacks.

Hito didn't even respond, merely acted. He knew his mentors puppets well and it was moments like this that he was glad he had them on his side. When the time came, Hito stopped the jutsu and crouched a bit. He stayed in a position he felt would minimize any possibility of making him get hit with explosive force, but in case he was hit, he was ready to maneuver himself so the fall didn't hurt too badly.

Hopefully this would get rid of these obnoxious bugs.

Any sound that might have been created by the explosions could not be heard. The sounds of yet more insects pouring toward the use and source of chakra only seemed to increase, and the insects seemed to have no end in numbers. The first wave had been dealt with, but how much longer could they hold out? The number of bugs seemed infinite. The chakra supply of the ninja was not. There had to be some way to get the insects to stop advancing, but what?

Hito called to the twins quietly through telepathy, an idea suddenly springing on him. The fact that the bugs only seemed to increase and get more agitated with the more jutsu they used didn't escape Hito, he was fairly certain that it was their resistance that made them activate. So hopefully, his next idea would work too.

"Cut your chakra strings and don't use anymore chakra. I think that's what they're responding to." As he said this, Hito dispelled his Henge jutsu and made sure to not use anything else as well. If this didn't stop him, he'd have no choice but to body flicker away.

Silently and motionlessly nodding, the Oben nodded, placing the puppet, parasites and all, inside a scroll, cutting off their strings, then remained motionless inside of Hito. Movement through his body would cause chakra to be given off, which wasn't what was needed here.

The secret had been found out, but the ninja had make a mistake. Resealing the puPpet caused the insects to continue to charge at them. Should they run? Or would the insects be happy once they were sure that no more chakra was being used? Such a risky situation. One choice would save the lives of all three ninja, but would mean failure. The second was to place their lives in the hands of an untested hypothesis with no sure sign of victory. What to do?

Hito wasn't interested in gambling. If it's chakra they wanted, it's chakra he would give them.

Performing some hand seals rapidly, Hito desperately performed a jutsu. He moved as fast as he could, attempting to create a jutsu before the bugs swarmed around them. Just in time, a copy of himself emerged from the sands and stood tall in front of Hito.

The clone immediately ran through the crowd of bugs, trying to run directly through the swarm. Since it was a clone, it was continuously using chakra just to stay alive. If all went according to plan, the bugs would attack this chakra source and think it was Hito. When they destroyed the clone, hopefully, they'd be satisfied.

Only one clone can be made with this technique, and it is only capable of using taijutsu, battling like any average genin.

The plan almost failed. The chakra release had caused the bugs to charge Hito, but on the creation of the chakra using being, they all became enraged, and chased after the thing. The basic weakness of the trap had been found out. Many ninja had died on those very sands, but not these. The insects were still underfoot, but were uninterested while ninja were not using chakra. There seemed to be no further threat to the ninja as long as they could get take care of anything else that kept them from the structure without using chakra.

Hito sighed with relief as the insects finally left them alone. This would be very tedious without being able to use chakra, but hopefully, this minefield of insects wouldn't be a problem once they found and got into the actual library. But that was the next problem, how the hell were they supposed to get into it?

Hito walked around the general area, hoping for some kind of clue in the sand or something of the sort. There had to be some way that the library was regularly revealed so that people could come and go.

As the sea of insects moved away, the sands shifted, revealing the colossal archives. It had been a while since anyone but the caretakers had accessed it, as most died trying to get past the bugs. With the insects out of the way, at least for the moment, Hito would seemingly have no trouble moving into the building.

Hito nearly sighed with relief as the sands suddenly shifted and the library revealed itself. The bugs were nowhere to be seen, so for now, things were going well. Hito instantly moved as quickly as he could to the library wall, hugging his back up against it tightly as he moved.

He made his way around the wall, feeling it cautiously in hopes of an entrance. If he found one, he would slowly peak into it to see if there were any guards.

As Hito moved his hand along the wall, he would soon find that there were three ancient looking holes in the wall, just large enough to stick a hand through. Beside them stood a tall stone door, inscribed with runes of ancient cultures. Above the holes was faded text that could be roughly translated to mean that within one of the holes was a trigger that would open the door, and the other two held horrors beyond comprehension. It would have been a simple task to create a clone and have it test out each hole until the right one was found, but using chakra would most likely result in the reappearance of the insects. The odds were against Hito, but turning back now would mean abandonment of the mission. Would he take the safe rout, or would he risk it all in an attempt to complete the mission? Tune in next week.

Hito frowned at the stupid puzzle game. He didn't like this kind of crap, not because he wasn't good at it, but because the risks were too high. He wasn't a fan of gambling, even if it was on his own knowledge. Even so, he had no choice but to do go with the puzzle.

Hito did not guess. Ever. He refused to stick his hand in a random hole and hope for the best, he had to test them or something of the sort first. So carefully, he examined each of the holes, looking at their walls and surrounding areas and how deep they were and any minute detail he could see. Next, he would take a clump of sand from beneath him and spit in it, creating a fist sized orb. Hopefully, it would be enough to test out the dangers, seeing as he was placing the sand in each hole, giving a few minutes between each placement, hoping he could learn something.

Unfortunately for Hito, even though the trap was ancient, it was rather sophisticated. It didn't just react to a foreign presence. The trick behind it, however, would remain unfound until Hito somehow figured out a method of tripping the trigger. If Hito had ever studied ancient booby traps, he might know of several types of traps that could have been applied to this puzzle. One option might be that the traps were heat sensitive, meaning that body heat would activate it. Another option was that all three holes were booby trapped, but would not go off if all three triggers were activated at the same time, making it impossible for one person to get in. Finally, the three could be rigged, and a diversion. The real trigger could still be hidden somewhere. Then again, this trap could be all that it said it was. Maybe it was a revolutionary trapping technique that Hito could not have possible read about. So many options. Which to choose?

Hito furrowed his brow at the strange contraption. His attempt at tricking it into thinking the sand was his hand obviously hadn't worked, and Hito still definitely refused to risk putting his hand in their randomly. He didn't feel like searching this wall for a hidden trigger, however, seeing as how it may be booby trapped.

What he was thinking of doing was more.. daring. It was something that had been bothering him for a little while now; the bugs had come out and attacked them, the sand had cleared and they had been pretty loud about getting rid of the bugs. Why is it nobody was coming to check on them? There's no way they couldn't have heard the sand clearing or the bugs fighting with them. Maybe they did know they were here and just didn't want to look out.

With surprising certainty, Hito straightened his posture and donned his charming smile, the one he used while on diplomacy missions. With the posture set up, he put up his hand and... knocked on the gate. "Hello, is anybody there?"

With the force of the knock, the massive stone door swung open, revealing assents dark hallway that seemed to be immaculately clean. No dust could be be seen on the walls or floor, and no rodents could be seen scurrying about.

Similar runes, glyphs and carvings could be seen feeding into the abyss. Would he venture within?

Hito frowned again. He really didn't like when things didn't go as he expected, nor when there was so much unknown. The library was proving to be increasingly mysterious with it's inexplicably clean and equally mysteriously engraved hallway. He would have loved to stay there and try and translate the symbols on the walls, but he had more important matters to tend to.

Taking advantage of his dark clothing, Hito crouched down low and kept his clothes wrapped around him. He moved slowly through the halls, not wanting to set off any booby traps or be spotted by any guards. He had considered doing a diplomatic approach earlier, but now that he had a different option, he was going to go with it.

Hito slowly crept down the hallway, wondering what the library had in store.

If there were any differences between the two hallways, Hito would try to pick the direction where the sound or smell of bugs was faintest, but if there was no difference, he'd just take the left cooridor. He made sure to move with the same caution as before, but now, he brought out his kunai just in case.

Had he chosen the correct path? Who knew? As he walked, however, he would see that there was an odd blue light at the end of the tunnel. The noise and smell were growing stronger as he went, but he had little choice but to continue on. In fact, if he looked back to where he had come from, he would see a newly formed wall with similar runes on it. Forward was the only option.

As he approached the light he would see that there was a massive room that seemed to be the main chamber. It housed row upon row of shelf upon shelf of colum upon colum of books. Oddly, there seemed to be no guards. Then again, there seemed to be no way out. This might even be a fake chamber with fake books. One never knew.

Hito had to muster all his self control to not let out a gasp at the sight of the walls of books. He hoped to all that was good in this world that this room was real and these books were actually here. If this were all true, the amount of information they would gain from taking this building was tremendous.

Still.. there were no guards. That just couldn't be right. Such a massive room with such complicated defense mechanisms, but no guards? Hito wasn't convinced.

Once more, just to be sure, Hito performed Kai, in case this was a genjutsu. If it weren't, he would continue as before, crouching and hugging the wall. He moved even slower than before, gradually inching his way around the room, looking for anything out of the ordinary.

The room seemed nothing out of the ordinary save for the eerie light, the noise, the smell, and the lack of all that made a library a library, besides the books. It was almost like an archive: a crypt for knowledge. Nothing else seemed out of the ordinary.

Hito didn't buy it. There was obviously something he was missing in this library. Nothing with such great defenses and dexterity would have no guards. Plus, the mission was A-ranked, so there had to be something wrong here. Maybe he just had to initiate it?

Hito examined the spines of the books, hoping to catch something useful. If nothing important jumped out at him, he'd reach for a random book and attempt to pull it out, wondering if some sort of defense system would kick in or something of the sort.

That was it: the trigger. The faint blue light became an eerie red color, and the book in Hito's hand began to move. It rapidly changed into the insects that the group had faced outside. A ripple effect began to appear as every book on every shelf, and even the shelves themselves morphed into the insects there was no exit that could be seen, and time was running short. Would the ninja use chakra to fight the insects? Or would he trust the theory he had previously come up with and keep his chakra dormant in hopes that the insects would not attack? The situation was life or death, and time was running out.

Hito cursed inwardly. He was getting really sick of these insects, but on the other hand, this would be a great defense mechanism if they managed to preserve it once they got the library. However, at the moment, it was rather life threatening.

Acting quickly, Hito tossed the book and kept still afterwards. He was prepared to body flicker at the first sign of failure in his plan, but he hoped this would work.

For a moment, the plan seemed not to be working. The bugs continued to form out of seemingly everything in the library, but that was the end. Once they had all formed, they paused, seeming not to move. After a full minute of no movement, the insects began shifting again, clearing a path for the ninja to move toward what was becoming a door. If he passed through the door, he would find a room that was almost identical to the one that had just become insects. The difference lay in the fact that if the ninja took another book from the shelf, it would remain a book, able to be read and learned from. It would seem that the secret to the hidden vault of knowledge had been found out. Now all Hito had to do was get out alive.

Hito still couldn't believe in how easy this all was. He refused to let down his guard. Slowly, he crept into the next room. Like before, he searched each inch of it, looking for any exits or other features. If he found no exit or anything of the sort, he would walk out of the room and go out the direction he had come in from, seeing as he couldn't do anything chakra-related to read the books or seal them.

((Oreo wanted combat...))

The minute Hito walked into the room the door closed behind him. This was the right room, but this was also where the guards were. Seven rows of seven guards stood before Hito. They could not have been seen from outside he room, but were now visible. They all wore armor and all held weapons. They did not look to happy.
