[Mission] Feeeeeeeeliiiiiiings

Post by Yasashikaze Seiken » Tue Nov 11, 2014 6:36 am

Ah, the lovely, breathtaking scenery of the Wind Country. Or rather, as much breathtaking scenery as a parched, despair-ridden desert can possibly provide. The Wind Country has much to offer its citizens and visitors, including, but not limited to, poisonous scorpions, hallucinogenic cacti, corpse-scavenging birds and marsupials, and even, as a bonus, possible death from dehydration and heat stroke! Isn't that fantastic?!

Yes, the Wind Country is Australia. But with more death.

The rugged, surprisingly non-social nomads had decided that it was in their best interest (for their pocketbooks, at least) to work with the village on this one of a few rare occasions. It seemed that Tsun had managed to get some contacts to help finding the water a bit easier, but he warned that if the nomads felt threatened, they would not hesitate for an instant. The two shinobi would be left hanging high and dry, figuratively and literally, to find the water themselves. The caravan sat in a closed circle to offer shade and protect them from the harsh winds of the desert as they waited for the Sunagakure shinobi to arrive.

Good Luck.

Sorry about the late post. Forgot that Hayate wanted me to post first >.<
This was Miyuki's first team mission in too long. Mainly she would either be training or working at the hospital. It was was about time she stretched her legs and actually did something besides medic work. Today it was their job to help find a water source and by finding it, help out with the village's water supply.

"So like how our village puts random people together for a mission?" Miyuki asked her partner in crime today while heading to the meet up point. "I think it's quite weird but I guess they don't care as long as we get the mission done, right?"

Sega nodded to his partner for the mission. He just didn't have all that much to say to her, and as long as she didn't get herself killed, he didn't mind. At their destination, the caravan, he sought out the leader to find out who it was he'd have to talk too. Once that was taking care of he'd direct some attention towards his teammate to come up with a strategy.

Either way, until then, he'd stay observant. His eyes would see everything.

Soon enough, the pair would find themselves in the middle of a ring of canvas covered wagons, the canvas apparently double-layered with a white layer on top. This prevented excess heat from pouring into the shade of the caravans, and it always gave some sort of reprieve to the nomads that wandered aimlessly through the desert sands and scorching sun.

The leader of the nomads sat under a sturdy makeshift tent. He waved them into the shelter with a brisk wave. "We help you find water," he explained in a very thick accent and broken language. Obviously, these people spoke a different language as their main form of communication. "We lead way to ancient valley."

He raised his hand, shaking his finger. "We no fight for you. Ja?"

Miyuki wasn't surprised to hear their guide talking in a broken language. Without the proper schooling the village had, people outside the village usually talked this way.

"Ja." Miyuki nodded to the guide. This mission needed no fighting, although it was bound to happen. Yet it was her and Sega's job to at least keep the fighting of any type to a really bare minimum.

"We are ready."

"Ready." Sega nodded. He really wasn't a man of many words, that and his omnipotent ruler didn't know what the feck to write.

The man nodded and walked out of the tent, shouting a series of commands to the members of the caravan. Within but ten seconds, the tent they were in was uprooted, rolled up, and packed away, all without the two shinobi even moving. The large awnings that they set up to shield themselves from the blistering winds and sun were drawn back over the carriages and secured. Within the underside of five minutes, the entire group had prepared itself to move, even the shepherds with the livestock.

"We head towards the border, ja?" he said. "Watch perimeter, look for shadows in distance. Keep bandits away from us."

With an impressive amount of speed for beasts of burden, the group set out. Now would a good time to plan any sort of defense plans, no?

Yes, it was definitely the time to plan. However, Miyuki and Sega already went through the battle plan before leaving the village. Since Sega was the more battle-oriented of the two of them, he'd attack the enemy while Miyuki protected their guides.

Sega remained silent as they trotted along. For him, this was a particularly strenuous mission. The last time he was on caravan duty and had left the village was... was that day. And while he was resolved to keep fighting and to live on in his sensei's sacrifice, it was traumatic to be walking the roads that brought his sensei to his death, and him to the edge of his.

Damn.

The caravan soon reached the border, keeping about a mile wide berth from it as they ran along its length. To this point, the trip seemed to be going along just fine. Seems like the marauders weren't looking to use any obvious tactics, which might suit them just fine. The storms were whipping up sandstorms something fierce, and while it didn't cause the experienced nomads to slow down much, it did block their vision quite terribly. Their clear visibility was reduced by half, with the outer reaches of their sight giving only small silhouettes.

After some time, whomever was watching the rear might notice a slight dark spot to their six, four, and three directions. It wasn't anything of particular note at this point; it could probably just be a few sand dunes. They seemed to be fading in and out of the background of the storm. As to whether the pair decided to investigate was up to them.

The mission was going pretty well. Nothing going on as of yet. Miyuki didn't like how quiet it was, but nothing could be done about it. She just gripped the hilt of her sword and kept it moving.

Sega's eyes were darting all about throughout their journey, they had resolved to stick close to the carriage, and Sega had taken the rear. He wouldn't let anything slip by him. As they approached the gate he noticed a few dark spots slithering amongst the sand. It was likely nothing, but he wouldn't take any risks.

He'd throw a kunai, leading a little of course, at every single shadow spot. If there was anything there he'd kill it or provoke it. Better than having it jump them, right?

Sega's kunai would produce no visible effect, as the dark spots on the sand were little more than shadows distorting from the heat and light of the sun that beat down upon them.

The caravan started to turn away from the border, heading back into the country. It was difficult to see much through the sandstorm, but the pair might be able to make out the start of rock formations. Sega, as he kept looking back, would notice that the shadows were not actually on the sand... but above it.

And those shadows were getting bigger.

Through the ground, vibrations could be felt, even with all of the sand. Sega wouldn't have to waste time guessing who or what it might be; only the bandits would be active during a sandstorm, when most other nomads would be prone and ripe for picking off. It was the work of these bandits that caused entire enclaves of these peaceful nomads to die in one fell swoop, their desecrated skeletons often sparsely littering the sands of the Wind Country.

And if they were feeling the vibrations now, when the bandits weren't even visible... whatever they were riding must be pretty big.
