Clearing up the countryside... Desertside?

Post by Varian » Sun Aug 02, 2015 6:01 pm

Akashi stood beyond the wall of Sunagakure No Sato, the desert wind was rather gentle today. A slight dusting of sand shifted on the ground in front of him as the breeze moved it, the air was dry as always and the sun was beating down on the desert ahead. Today Akashi was wearing a thin scarf around his bare neck, Akashi felt the warm breeze brush across his bare torso around his chest was various scarring something that he had grown used to by now as just another part of his body. He pulled the scarf up and wrapped it around the lower section of his face, just below eye level.

He was waiting for whoever he had been assigned with to do this mission, a few small time bandits had been harassing small villages throughout the Wind Country. Unfortunately nobody there had not been the time to deal with them sooner, as such they had grown into a rather concerning threat that could prove to be dangerous if left unchecked any longer. As such a pair of chuunin were being dispatched to deal with them, something that Akashi certainly felt was more than enough given the approximated strength of this bandit group.

First they had to find the bandits, Akashi certainly wasn't getting anywhere without his partner. Where was this mystery ninja he had been assigned to work with for the duration of this mission, he sat down in the sand against the left section of wall near the entrance of Suna.

I wonder how Zekka is doing... It has been a few weeks since I last saw him, that boy is a promising shinobi indeed. As Akashi was thinking of his new found friend his thoughts were reminded of his encounter with Tenka, it was not everyday one leaves on such friendly terms with the owner of a home you broke into. It was a strange encounter by Akashi's standards, it was not all disagreeable with him either Akashi certainly wasn't against having friends.

Clearing up the countryside... Desertside?

Loose strands of hair fluttered around Tenka's face as she attempted to locate the other chuunin she would be working with for her mission. The scroll she had received, other than detailing mission parameters (sure, she heard some complaints from a grandma that the heiress shouldn't be chasing down bandits but thankfully the complaining elder was quickly shut down when Tenka had pointed out that it would be good practice with less risk than if she were to hunt missing nin) stated that it would be near the one and only main entrance of Suna, but she hadn't realized exactly how many people would be milling around. From a distance, she saw a man sitting on the ground, his bare torso scarred and- wait. Was that another shinobi? Quietly walking over, she ended up casting a shadow over him and holding out her hand to pull him up. A scarf covered his lower face so Tenka couldn't see most of his features, but one thing she did notice was his eyes. Hazel brown and scrutinizing.

"Hizashi Tenka, chuunin," she said, trying to remember if she'd seen him somewhere before. She couldn't. 'If he walks around like that all the time, it would be hard to miss his scars, and I would definitely remember them. So why does it feel like I've seen him before but I can't recall where I've met him?'

Akashi looked up at Tenka, he just looked right into her eyes. "Really? You break into my home then treat me like a stranger? I don't know whether to laugh or be offended." Akashi took her hand and rose to his feet anyway, he brushed himself off and looked at her once more. "Muteki Akashi, Chuunin." He turned and started walking out into the desert, he did not look behind him to see if Tenka was following. "I didn't expect to see you again so soon, the thought never crossed my mind that you would be the Chuunin I was assigned to work with. This mission just got interesting, let's go hunt some scum then." On finishing speaking Akashi threw together some handseals, the sand beneath Akashi rose up lifting him off the ground somewhat. He turned to Tenka and motioned for her to step onto it, granted there was not vast amounts of room on the small platform, it was a much easier way of travelling.

As soon as she had stepped onto the platform he wasted no time in speeding off into the desert, skimming along the surface of the sand in a rather smooth fashion no higher than a couple of feet off the ground below. "They were last seen in a small village that we are en route to now." Smoke began to form on the horizon and sure enough a village soon came into view, it had certainly seen better days. Many of the buildings were damaged in various ways, the bandits had without a doubt been here. When they were close enough Akashi gently lowered the sand platform and strode towards the centre of the village. He stood amongst all the surrounding houses and surveyed the damage, he gave a glance to Tenka. "Check the village hall, see if you can find the village elder." Akashi looked around the village from where he stood, here and there people limped about outside their broken homes. Each one of them held a defeated expression on their face, whoever these bandits were Akashi would not let them get off lightly. "We will make those that did this pay, I assure you all." Akashi projected his voice so that the villagers heard him clearly.

Tenka wasn't sure if she should apologize. Had she offended him once again? At least she would be working with someone she knew...somewhat. Akashi formed a sand cloud and Tenka stepped on, casting off her apprehension that it could fall apart at any time. So. He was a sand user, meaning he was most likely a mid-long range fighter, possibly support as well. Looking at his scars, she wouldn't have thought that he wasn't a brawler, but she supposed it was a good example of not judging books by their covers.

Tenka hopped off the cloud of sand and winced at the state of the village. Whoever had done this most certainly was not holding back, but Tenka remembered that they had to be thankful that the thugs hadn't bothered to kill anyone else. As Akashi ordered her (him giving the heiress orders, shouldn't it be the other way around?) to scout out the main hall for the leader of the village, a young girl. who couldn't be much more than six or seven, stopped her by tugging on her scarf. Tenka almost choked but managed to remain calm. The girl grabbed her hand and started pulling her towards another smoking building that looked relatively more stable than the others- which wasn't saying much. The door was pulled open in a hurry and Tenka was shoved inside unceremoniously.

The scene Tenka came upon sent a mix of emotions through her mind. Several women were bustling around the room, calling for water and bandages and herbs. Various injured villagers were lying on beds and futons that looked as if they were going to fall apart any second. An old man was in the center of the room, directing the makeshift nurses around and trying to keep spirits up. The little girl quickly scurried from her side and tugged at the old man instead, bringing him over towards Tenka.

She introduced herself in a standard format ( "Hizashi Tenka, chuunin of Sunagakure, here with Muteki Akashi, chuunin of Sunagakure. We are here to deal with the bandits that have done this to your home. Please rest assured we will do everything in our power to make things right," ) and was promptly greeted with an explosion of tears. There was no other word for it. The old man sobbed weakly and Tenka, unsure what to do, patted his back and attempted to calm him down. The room was already chaotic and they didn't need to add more unrest to the situation by announcing her arrival publicly. He gave her the information between gasps for breath.

"The bandits attacked- sniffle -maybe a day ago?- wheeze -I think- gasp -the bandits- wheeze -headed off towards the west- cough of the village. They- hack -might be targeting the next village over; it's- hiccup -one of the smaller ones we trade with."

Tenka thanked him and the little girl and rushed out back to where Akashi was. If what the elder had said was true, they didn't have much time.

Clearing up the countryside... Desertside?

Akashi stood keeping an eye out for anything on the horizon in case the bandits returned to finish the job, there was nothing and soon Tenka came back from wherever she had disappeared to. Once she had relayed the information the old man had given to her, Akashi wasted no time in throwing handseals together. "With luck we can still make it to the village before it is too late." He spoke as the cloud of sand rose once again beneath his feet, he gave her time to get on the cloud and they sped off into the desert once more.

"When we find these bandits, we aren't taking them alive they don't deserve that kind of mercy." Akashi spoke with clear frustration in his voice, he had little patience for criminals as it was. That was the reason he had initially been harsh towards Tenka when they had first met, it was the reason now why he was angry with the bandits. They had no right to take from other people, certainly not their homes and lives.

Eventually the village came into view, smoke rising on the horizon at first. Then the orange glow of fire, finally leading up to the burning village that lay ahead. A few villagers were running to put out the fire, Akashi was not focused on them however. In the centre of the village stood seven men loading up a cart with their ill gotten gains, Akashi lowered the platform and strode over to them. He threw together some handseals, most the bandits spotted him immediately and began to scatter. Two of them however were caught off guard, the sand at his feet rose in a small wave and rushed towards these two. Within mere moments he had them both encased in sand, he dodged as an arrow came sailing towards him.

Akashi scanned the locations of each bandit, the two that he had trapped were positioned relatively close to the cart. Two of the bandits had moved to the western side of the village, one of them taking cover inside a broken down home peering out of the window. He had a bow in his hand, however he was not the one who had fired upon Akashi. That bandit seemed to be aiming at Tenka, he loosed the arrow and let it sail towards her with some deadly precision. The other bandit that was with him stood at the entrance of the house wielding a rather large Naginata, he seemed like he knew how to use it too. The other three had ran to the eastern side of the village, backing up into what seemed like a dead end. In the front one bandit held a Daito in his hand, holding the katana rather clumsly. Akashi identified him as the weakest of the bunch, no doubt he was their newest member or something of the sort. Next to him another had a Naginata, he looked just as proficient with it as the other bandit. This guy had Tekko dangling around his neck, tied by string. Clearly this one wasn't afraid to get close and personal, the other bandit was the archer who had fired upon him. He had a panicked expression on his face seeing as he had missed, he was quickly fumbling for another arrow.

From the north side of the village two more bandits emerged, one had a Daito and Wakizashi hanging on his waste. The other carried a Tetsubo in his hand, resting it upon his shoulder. He seemed to be the most muscular of the group, on seeing the two ninja they readied their weapons. The katana wielder headed to intercept the path between the group in the east and Akashi, the Tetsubo brute moved directly for Tenka. Akashi had already decided on his target and moved straight for the archer who had fired upon him, the man loosed another arrow and Akashi calmly dodged it once more without breaking his stride.

Clearing up the countryside... Desertside?

"Don't be so hasty. There might still be other bandit groups out there wreaking havoc, and by the time we get another notice of an attack it may be too late. I wish to interrogate several of these bandits, especially the leader of their knowledge of these groups. If death is the only possible option then so be it." Her voice was calm as they approached the village. As soon as they stepped off the cloud, Akashi immediately ensnared two men with sand. Hasty, indeed. But not bad.

A whistling sound. That was never a good sign. Tenka dropped to the ground with her chest touching the hard packed dirt before bouncing straight back up, this time in a steadier stance. Her breathing began to speed up, not from nerves, but in preparation for what she was about to do. Her eyes flickered over the gathered bandits.

'Archer, naginata, 10 o'clock. Daito, naginata, archer, 5 o'clock. Daito, wakizashi, tetsubo, 12 o'clock.'

Already she could see Akashi moving towards the east side of the village, meaning the west side was left to her. Without further ado she began charging towards the man standing in the doorway. The tetsubo user was lumbering towards her at a rapid pace, and the archer was nocking another arrow, ready to loose another projectile. 50 feet away. 40 feet away. 30 feet away. At about 27 feet away she had to dodge another arrow. Now the man huddled in the window opening was beginning to panic. Tenka kept charging, soles of her sandals gripping the earth as she hurtled towards the bandits. The naginata man had come to meet her 10 feet away from the doorway and the tetsubo user took his place. She immediately stopped and ducked as he swung the blade attached to a wooden pole at her. He kept swinging, she kept dodging, and soon he was laughing at her, taunting and questioning why she wasn't attacking. Once in a while an arrow would thud into the dirt near them, it seemed that the archer was afraid of hitting the naginata user as well. Goody.

Another swing came back her way, but this time the momentum was too much. Once Tenka ducked and popped back up, the pole kept travelling until he was off balance. An opening! Tenka drew her right arm back and channeled some chakra into it. The man, beginning to panic as well, twisted aside out of her way, "dodging" her punch. But he wasn't the one Tenka had aimed at. Instead, she had aimed at the tetsubo user and the archer still dithering on whether or not he should fire more arrows.

A blast of hot air about four feet tall erupted (silently) from her clenched fist and sped towards the bandits. Unable to notice the heat shimmer travelling towards them, they scoffed and guffawed at her missed punch. Their laughter quickly turned into horrified screams of pain as they discovered their skin peeling off from the heat. Even the archer was burned, once the heat shimmer expanded. The tetsubo user, despite his brawny look, quickly passed out and the archer was screaming as he stumbled out the window, hanging precariously half-in and half-out of the house.

The naginata user was shocked, needless to say, and quite literally pissed his pants when Tenka turned back to look at him. He dropped his pole and quite willingly let Tenka tie him up using her daggers' chakra rope by pinning him to a hardened clay wall when she threatened to do the same to him. For good measure she stuffed a random piece of cloth she found in his mouth as a gag and gave the tetsubo user another hard kick to the head to ensure he would be knocked out before turning to watch Akashi battle his way to the east side. How was he doing?

~Atsui • Stage One - Morning Calm
E-Ranked Taijutsu
An important principle in the God of the Fire Fist style is to maintain calm mindedness. "Never be consumed by the flames" is often said within the Hizashi, meaning to never let anger or power shroud ones mind. Before and at the end of every class, students are taught to control their breathing. Proper breath control is required in order to maintain the style to its fullest, unleashing attacks with each breath. This allows Hizashi members to speed up their breathing, letting them time things with better accuracy.

~Atsui • Heatball
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the needed hand seals, the user will forcibly expel chakra from their fists or the soles of their feet by punching or kicking. This release of chakra will take the shape of an orb of about 4 feet in length/width/height. The orb will move at speed of 6, and can go as far as 30 meters before dissipating. When the ball strikes a target, it will release the heat into the area, expanding outwards to 10 feet in each direction. This causes second degree burns to anyone in that range.

Akashi had continued walking towards his opponents in a calm manner, the archer fired another arrow at Akashi but he was already throwing up hand seals. A wall of sand rose up and intercepted the path of the arrow, Akashi continued walking forwards he was in no rush. These men were as good as dead, they probably knew it too as the Archer panicked to get another arrow ready. The other two bandits with him looked nervous, the Daito wielder had yet to arrive to assist them and their opponent was only getting closer. Akashi let out his bloodlust, more precisely the desire to see their blood spilt. A rather commanding aura appeared around him, he was in control here and the bandits would do well to remember that.

The sand wall began to sink back to the ground and Akashi walked through the loose sand, appearing on the other side he stopped staring right at the archer. Their eyes met, Akashi smiled in amusement at the Archer's attempt to ready another arrow. Akashi threw together some more hand seals keeping his eye contact with the archer, that was it for the archer he was caught in Akashi's Genjutsu. All the archer saw was his friends slowly sinking into the sand, Akashi watched as the Archer dropped to the ground and started frantically digging to save his friends. He did not allow this to break his stride however and as he only got closer to the bandits they only panicked more, that was till the bandit with the Tekko decided to step forward. "I will take this one, he looks scrawny and weak there is no need to be such cowards."

The man stepped forward and sure enough compared to Akashi he was much larger, Akashi just laughed at the man's bravery though. "You are going to take me are you? Show me." The bandit dropped his other weapon and put on his Tekko, cracking his neck a few times before throwing a punch at Akashi. He's fast! Akashi manged to sidestep the first punch, then came the second and Akashi had to step back to avoid it. Akashi took out a senbon but the man immediately batted it out of Akashi's hand, Akashi was aware that Tenka was watching and had been since he had cast the genjutsu on the archer. He was so preoccupied with trying not to lose his temper with this man that a blow managed to land, it dropped Akashi onto the ground.

Pathetic.

The bandit began to emit a rather deep booming laugh, he was clearly proud of landing a single blow on Akashi. "Pathetic." The laughing stopped, Akashi stood up from the ground and wiped the blood from around his mouth with the back of his hand. His voice had changed entirely, a much more harsh, cold and commanding voice came forth. The bandit's hairs stood on end with that singular word piercing through him, Akashi was unsure if Tenka could hear him. At this point it was of no consequence, he was angry. The bandit threw yet another punch, Akashi moved his head as this brute seemed to like aiming for the same place. It was too predictable and Akashi was going to teach him a lesson, he grabbed the man's arm with his hand. The man had a panic stricken look upon his face, that same face saw it's skin start to become cracked and dry. In fact the entire of his body was drying up in front of everyone, Akashi simply stared at him thin lipped with piercing cold eyes. "This is what happens to those who defy me, an ant such as you should have kept quiet while I crushed you." The bandit fell to his knees, knowing that death was soon to follow. This man was rather weak in Akashi's eyes, there were many who had lasted much longer against his kekkei genkai. "Victory is everything in this world, only the strong survive. Many of our former Kazekage taught us to believe in the strength of ourself and the strength of Sunagakure. I am strong, so I always win. Suna is strong, so it is always right. Die for defying your country and for defying me." Akashi let the dried husk of a corpse drop to the ground, he then turned to the other bandit.

The third bandit of this group just ran, as he did so he yelled. "You just wait till the boss hears about this, he will have every bandit in the wind country hunting you down." Akashi let the man run, Akashi went and finished off the archer by firing an arrow straight through him with his own bow. Akashi's attention turned to the Daito wielder, who had got alarmingly close at this point. Akashi stepped back to avoid the blade but was a fraction too slow, it sliced a nice length across his torso. Akashi winced at the pain, the shock was enough to let him take control of his temper though. He jumped back throwing three senbon at the bandit, each one of them hitting the man's jugular and piercing his wind pipe. He made his way over to Tenka as the last bandit dropped to the ground drowning on his own blood, when he reached where Tenka was stood Akashi nodded towards the bandits. "They can die, I let one of the bandits go. He should lead us to the head of this serpent, then we can cut it off. If you can't kill them yourself then leave them out in the desert tied up to die." Akashi would wait till she was ready to leave and begin walking in the direction of the bandit who escaped, they obviously couldn't be that far away if the bandit was willing to travel on foot. Akashi could still see the bandit running away, the fool had no idea that he was being followed.

However, they can only make a stationary image, or a visual loop, not a controllable visual illusion. Examples would be a decapitated head on a table, or one of their friends running in circles on fire. This illusions may only last up to 4 posts, or until the user ends the jutsu themselves. Tenka couldn't hear what Akashi was saying but it must have been something very threatening, seeing the look on his face and the terrified grimaces of the men facing him. She watched as he reached out and grabbed a man, turning him into a dry corpse of bones, and dropped the dead body. There was no doubt or hesitation in his actions, but what Tenka was wondering about was that ability. A jutsu? Or something that happened every time he touched someone?

Tenka watched as Akashi ended the other archer and let one go. The tied up bandit behind her was mumbling something through his gag, but quickly shut up as Akashi approached. Tenka did the opposite. "And if he's leading us into a trap? Surely they'll realize something's wrong if they spot a lone man running towards them."

Akashi was already walking off. Tenka hesitated for a moment- would she turn into a dried corpse?- before grabbing his arm. "You're not going to do anything about that gaping wound on your chest?" This was just one of the times she wished she had learned iijutsu.

Tenka walked back over to the knocked out tetsubo user. She slit this throat easily with a kunai and apologized to the other bandit before slitting his as well. His tearful eyes didn't sit well with her but this was the shinobi way of life. Take the best course of action and stick with it. Adapt. She left the archer in the window, not bothering to deal with him. The pain from his burns would sufficiently incapacitate him.

The bandit scurried over the dunes in a seemingly haphazard way. Tenka wondered how he could be so confident to know where he was going, but it seemed that she needn't have worried that he was leading them in the wrong direction. There, ahead of them, was a small outcropping of trees. An oasis, large enough to fit dozens of men and small enough that it wouldn't be too conspicuous.

Tenka crouched behind a larger dune and held up a hand for a moment, motioning for Akashi to slow down before making handseals. All of a sudden her vision flashed and she could sense moving blobs of heat in the trees. Trying to keep the most accurate count she could, her eyes flickered from person to person.

"There are at least 25 people in those trees, about 5 are actually up in the trees and the rest are dispersed throughout. I bet that the ones in the trees are lookouts if not archers. Any idea on how to attack?"
Well look at that. The runaway bandit had actually led them to his hideout.

Akashi frowned as she took a hold of his arm, it stopped him in his tracks however. "That is why I am making my way there now, the less time he has to warn them the higher our chance of success. If they see a lone man wandering towards them in the desert their first assumption isn't going to be an attack is on it's way, sure they may reach that conclusion but by which point we will already be attacking." Then she pointed out the wound on his chest, his face softened gently taking her arm and removing her grip from his own arm. "Thank you for your concern, but a wound as shallow as this is not going to kill me. I can get it looked at when we get back home. You may think my method of operating is harsh, these people have done much worse and only deserve to be punished in kind. If we had time on our side I wouldn't rely on such a flimsy method such as tailing a running man through the desert, we have no idea when these bandits plan to attack another village so time is of the essence."

Akashi watched as she went and killed the prisoners she had captured, a look of disgust on his face as one of them began to cry. Akashi wondered just how many people that man had slaughtered in the exact same way, how could he expect any mercy? Once Tenka was finshed they moved on after the bandit who had fled, sure enough Akashi was right to bet on the man he had certainly seemed like the cowardly type. The bandit's base came into view in the appearance of an oasis, a few tents were strewn about here and there. They didn't seem to be ready to move any time soon, Akashi smiled at her question. "Now we wait, you are most vulnerable when you are on the move." It seemed his worst fear had not come to fruition in fact the circumstances now seemed very favourable, they were not going to move that is unless their runaway managed to reach them.

Akashi had already prepared for such a case, he had to close the gap however before the bandit came into clear view of the camp. Akashi threw together some handseals, then fired four oblong blades of sand at his target aiming for his Achilles tendon. The man hit the sand face first as the projectiles sliced into his ankles, Akashi sped over to the man and when he was close enough threw together more handseals. This time he projected a large cloud of sand in a 10x10x10 meter area, at this distance while it would not render Akashi and the corpse completely invisible it would take someone really paying attention to see clearly through it. Akashi stabbed a senbon into the throat of the fallen bandit, then dragging his corpse away back towards the camp.

Akashi dropped the dead bandit on the other side of the dune where Tenka was waiting, he looked at her and shrugged. "Now we wait for them to move." He took a water flask he had strapped to his side, he popped open the lid and took a mouthful of water. He then placed it next to Tenka and sat himself down in a position where he could keep an eye on the oasis and keep out of sight, he glanced away to look at Tenka once again. "You said you wanted to come visit again, I assume other things have kept you busy?" Akashi had been slightly hurt she had not recognized him at first glance, however he couldn't expect everyone to remember him all the time he supposed. Their meeting wasn't an ordinary one though, he would of thought she would of picked him out at first glance.

Clearing up the countryside... Desertside?

Tenka watched as Akashi pounced upon the man running towards the oasis and sufficiently incapacitated him. The man's body flopped face down into the sand next to her as Akashi dropped behind the dune as well, taking a swig from his flask. She peeked back over the dune one more time to make sure no one had noticed them before settling down to wait as suggested.

"You could say that," she replied evenly. A small grimace appeared on her face and disappeared as quickly as it came. "Someone's been causing trouble in the compound and I've had to deal with it as prep for future situations." That was an understatement. Someone had been stealing various weapons, not very large ones, just kunai and senbon, but still, they were stolen. Her clan would be happy to let the offender have them if they would just ask, but now she had to go through this whole investigation process. She explained the shortened version to Akashi, wiping the sweat off her nose. "I apologize, I would have stopped by if I had free time."
