To say Arata followed his normal routine as he rose that day would be a complete lie. The man had no routine, and he was only awake because of a hard knock at his door. He knew that knock, someone was interrupting his weekend with a mission and there were only two ways the man was liable to answer that door. Today he chose to combine them.

When he yanked it open the surprised messenger would be standing there suddenly surrounded in smoke from the hand-rolled smoke hanging from Arata's lips, causing the woman to erupt into a coughing fit. It was a moment before she realized the man was standing with his arms crossed, save for one out in front of him as he wanted for the scroll in her hands, and wearing no clothing. He had answered the door in stark nude morning 'glory' and didn't seem bothered by it. Fighting to keep her eyes level with his the woman was turning a bright red even before she took off at a run. Thankfully, she'd left the scroll in his hands first.

Arata savored the moment before slamming the door shut with a chuckle and opened the orders he had received. He wasn't happy to read them, and not just because he was being bothered with a mission. He was being pulled for part of a search team in the desert, a female shinobi having gone missing on her way back from a mission. With a sigh, Arata seriously debated sending back a 'no' response, even if it would have landed him in hot water, but then he saw the name. It was familiar, but not because of the face attached to it, rather the backside. He thought he remembered staring at it when he'd wondered into the scribes library one day...

Long or short, the days had continued on, but Kiyori's supply of firewood and similar items had seriously dwindled. Soon the light would be gone, along with the warmth. The sands above might have grown hot in the day, but the dark of these tunnels never touched the sun, and cold could come fast. The young Henrin would have to soon continue her search for a way out.

It had been 2 weeks... 2 long, depressing weeks trapped within the confines of this darkness. At least, that's what she figured; it was hard to know for sure without some way of keeping track of night and day, the only thing she had to go off of was her sleep schedule. After finding a somewhat safe haven filled with viable wood for a fire, Kiyori had to think of the best way to use her time. Searching for a way out was of course the top priority, but unfortunately she didn't trust herself to be able to find her way out before she ran out of firewood. So instead, she took a longer, but safer option; she trained herself to use Katon Ninjutsu, and honed her hearing so that, if worse came to worse and the darkness closed in on her, she had a plan B. The heat and light produced by her fire would surely be a godsend in this desolate, ominous temple...

After gathering the last bit of wood, as well as what little remained of her rations and water, Kiyori took a deep breath and looked towards the only path out of this door; one that led straight back into the labyrinth of hallways she had nearly gotten lost in weeks before. Now, however, she would hopefully be able to avoid getting lost. After all, without that infernal moss smoke hindering her mind and causing her Dousatsugan to go haywire, she could properly analyze each and every detail of each hallway to ensure she wasn't going down a path she had been down before. She could create a torch from some of the little wood she had left, but that wood would be precious in the days to come... for now, she would rely on what she had taught herself.

After performing a short set of hand seals, Kiyori looked to the ceiling and blew hot air from her mouth. This air swirled above her head, and after a short moment, formed a small orb of fire. Not only did it provide a gentle warmth to ward off the cold, but it enabled her to see through the thick darkness that covered this long forgotten place. As she went to leave the room however, she hesitated. Her feet seemed to freeze in place. I... I'm afraid. Who knows what evil lurks in this place, untouched by Her Light for centuries. But I can't let fear stop me, if I stay here I'll just die of dehydration. I have to escape this place... After a deep breath to steel her nerves, Kiyori ventured out into the maze of halls once again. Hopefully she would fair a bit better this time, though of course to properly take in every detail of the place meant she would have to move rather slow. She just hoped she'd escape the hallways before her fire went out...

A variation of the Torch technique, Kiyori performs a series of hand seals and exhales a small jet of flame from her mouth. This flame condenses into a ball of flame that hovers above her head, lighting up a 5 meter area in all directions for 5 posts before fading away. The ball of flame will follow her around, allowing her to scout out dark areas.

Silence could be deafening, and yet Kiyori's jutsu added just a little sound to the cavernous room. Her orb of fire crackled with life as it illuminated the walls nearest her, though the darkness seemed to press in against it almost as if it were a living breathing thing, reaching out to touch the unknown source of light. The ceiling was far above Kiyori's head, the room revealed to be more than a simple labyrinth, it seemed to be a hall with a high ceiling and pillars all around, perhaps the remnant of some place of worship. Some pillars had fallen as if the weight of the darkness itself had crushed them down, but others stood tall, pure white marble defiantly pressing up into the upper reaches of the darkness to touch the ceiling itself.

The path behind her led to nowhere, just the room that had practically been her prison the last days. Ahead of her she would have to navigate through the pillars to try and find another path. Every turn seemed the same, but the room opened ahead, to the left, and to the right. A direction would have to be chosen despite the lack of differences to know what might lead where.

But somewhere out there came a faint sound, a drip of water on earth it seemed.

Arata had gone with the search group, he felt he had to really. Of course the others with the search parties didn't particularly care for the faithless samurai and so when he voluntarily went his own direction in the search, they let him. Some silently hoped he would get lost too. It was a difficult task for the search party, walking the route Kiyori should have taken home and at random points people walked away in pairs, determined to find the young kunoichi.

Arata had gone off on his own, thinking he saw something in the distance. Of course as he got there he found only a stone jutting from the sand, and turning around he found no one else in sight. The man frowned and sat on a lower part of the stone, looking around and working his mind as he wandered where to turn next.

Kiyori could only sigh as she realized that once again, she was faced with the hallways that had confused her before due to the smoke from the moss. She might fair a bit better this time, but it was still a bit daunting. She moved forward, letting her little ball of flame illuminate the path before her, but also making sure to listen carefully for anything that could signify the path she should be taking. Once she hit the fork, she realized a decision would have to be made, but before she even got to make that decision, she heard a sound. Her ears twitched; it was the first sound she had heard in a long time that had not been caused by her...

It sounded like water.

Water? I guess there could be a spring of sorts, some untapped water supply beneath the hard earth under the sands, but that would be more harmful than good. If it broke free i'd be flooded... No, I don't think that could be it... but then what was it? She stopped and waited, hoping to hear the sound again, and if she could, she would identify what direction it came from and move in that direction. If not, she would simply take a guess and go to the left. After all, she had to move somewhere if she wanted to get out of this place. Sitting still would do her no good.

After spending an extended period of time submerged in total darkness, Kiyori has trained herself to rely on her ears when necessary, instead of her eyes. As a result, even the faintest of sounds can be picked up by her advanced hearing. Obviously loud or jarring sounds can be heard as far as 200 meters away, while normal volume sounds such as speech or footsteps can be heard as far as 20 meters away and quieter sounds such as whispers or the whistling of wind can be heard up to 10 meters away. This allows her to pinpoint the location of a target that she can hear without seeing them, and tell where they're moving and what direction they're going in based on the direction of the sounds.

As Kiyori listened intently she'd soon come to realize the sound wasn't far away, just a distance forward and to the left. If she followed the sound she would soon find herself tripping if she wasn't careful. The ground was no longer even like paved rock, but small stones almost like a creek bed beneath her feet. If she used her hands to investigate she would find trace amounts of cool water running between these stones and across her fingertips. It seemed to be flowing from somewhere, and looking towards where it was coming from she just might see a bit of hope. A high up ledge of the same little stones where the water trickled down and a speck of light...

Arata swore in frustration as he glanced around, almost immediately realizing his own anger would do him no good in this situation. A kunoichi was likely in danger and the man needed to be calm. Reaching into an inner pocket he withdrew a hand-rolled cigarette of a green plant as well as a small matchbook. Using a single match he lit the cigarette and took a long drag as his eyes glanced around.

As he paced and shuffled near the rock he soon realized the sand was dark in one spot, almost as if wet. Kneeling down the man touched it with fingers and realized his thought wasn't wrong. But where the hell did water come from in the desert? He couldn't help but think there had to be a natural spring below him, and if that was so, perhaps the girl wasn't far from this source of water. With the cigarette hanging out of his mouth his hands shuffled around, trying to trace the water with no clue what was happening below him.

He was on a ledge of rock, weakened by the light water flow over time and his weight was doing him no favors. Suddenly it gave way and darkness swallowed the man. He had no idea how far he fell, but he rolled and he could feel the bruises even before a blow to the head sent him unconscious.

As Kiyori looked up she would soon hear a ruckus, the falling of great rocks and dust coming down towards her as the light disappeared and the flow of water ceased. There was no sound as the falling stopped. There had obviously been a cave in and the light was gone now, hope to escape through the smallest of holes was gone and in the rubble before Kiyori lay a man whose only sound was a groan of obvious pain as he shifted and began to come to, blood trickling down one side of his face.

Kiyori paid close enough attention to avoid tripping over the jagged rocks beneath her feet to not only avoid tripping, but also recognize their layout and shapes. Based on observation, the rocks were rounded, as if something had worn them down over time... something like water. Sure enough, upon closer inspection, there was water trickling between the rocks. Then another drip echoed through the darkness, confirming her suspicions even further; there was water down here somewhere, but where? Well, she soon got her answer, as she looked up and saw the faint trickle of light... just in time for the cave in.

Immediately she jumped back and up, leaping onto one of the pillars behind her and sticking to it with chakra to avoid being submerged in what she thought was a coming flood. However, she was proven wrong as no water fell from the ceiling. Instead it was just more rocks and dust, and the faint light that she had prayed would be her way out of this oppressive darkness was blotted out by the dark once more. She had to fight the urge to cry, and was about to move along on her way before she noticed that she was no longer alone... a man had fallen down in that cave in, and was bleeding from the side of the head.

"Oh my goodness!" was all she managed to choke out as she rushed over to the man's side and inspected his condition. Her masterful knowledge of anatomy due to her Dousatsugan made it easy for her to understand that, while he likely had a concussion, he seemed alright for the most part. But then she noticed the symbol on his back; he was from Suna. "Wait, you're from suna? Are you alone? Were you sent to find me?"

Through intense study and internalization of various medical texts, as well as rigorous training and experience putting the knowledge into practice, Kiyori has become a master of human anatomy. This knowledge extends to chakra systems, nervous systems, vascular systems, organs, pressure points and anything else. Much of this knowledge extends into the biology of non-human species as well, though with less precision. This discipline, combined with the accuracy of the Mantis style, can turn even the simplest of attacks into a fatal blow.

Arata groaned as he came to, pushing up onto his hands and knees and coughing as he tried to understand what was happening around him. He felt hands and heard words and for a moment his mind thought he was drunk and waking up next to someone who should have long since left him. Without thinking he reached for the unprepared female and kissed her soundly on the lips. "No no... you should go..." he started, suddenly freezing as everything came rushing back to him. Of course instead of blushing in embarrassment the man grinned wildly. "Eh... sorry... head..." he said, pointing to the gash on his head where he could feel pain radiating from, clearly trying to excuse his behavior as part of his concussion.

"Yeah... Fujitsuna Arata." he said, trying to answer her questions finally as he introduced himself but suddenly froze. "Uh... please tell me that's a pet." he said quietly, pointing behind Kiyori.

About ten meters behind her, moving between pillars was what appeared to be a scorpion, but large enough to rival a horse in size as it chittered and hissed at the sight of the intruders.

Kiyori was completely and totally flabbergasted by the forwardness of this suna shinobi. Out of everything she would have expected from a shinobi as they awoke, this was the absolute last thing she would have imagined. She was so shocked she couldn't even think to slap the bastard, she just sat there in utter disbelief until the man broke away. And as soon as he did, the woman's face turned bright red and she reached back to hit him. She would have too had it not been for the nasty head injury... he likely just mistook her for his sweetheart back home or something. She could forgive that... with some time.

In the meantime, his well being was more important then her embarrassment, and on top of that, his presence meant search parties were looking for her. She started to get super excited and almost squeed with happiness, but then Arata pointed at something behind her... Kiyori turned around and her heart sunk. This was the first creature she had seen down here aside from a few jerboas...

and of course it was a huge fucking scorpion.

Incredibly fear didn't grip her first, although it was absolutely present. No, instead her desire to protect this man who came out to save her outweighed her fear of the dark creature. But one thing was certain, she wanted absolutely 0 to do with that stinger, so she was staying away from this beastie as much as possible. The creature made no moves towards her yet, so she wouldn't fly through her hand seals as fast as she could; she didn't want to spook it with the fast movement. On the other hand though, if it started moving at -all-, her speed would immediately go to it's max. Either way, when she was able, she would release her chakra into the earth and stone in front of her, causing it to rocket from the ground in the form of a jaw of jagged teeth. The maw would fly towards the scorpion and, hopefully, get close enough for Kiyori to activate the jaws, causing them to crunch down hard on the exoskeleton of the creature.

She didn't wait to see if it succeeded or not; as soon as she fired it off, she went to lift Arata up and take off with him, her little flame following behind her.

When it became clear that Kiyori was making a move against the creature, Arata scrambled to his feet as if to help her. It honestly surprised the man as she turned to run away from it. He didn't fight against her, instead going along with it and one arm of his own going around his waist as he ran along with her, both shinobi protective of one another.

Behind them the shrill hissing and cries of the creature could be heard as the jaw of earth slammed shut on the scoprion, a hissing sound temporarily in their wake as they moved on. Arata was panting and out of breath by time they stopped and the man glanced around, realizing just how dark it was. "Please tell me thats the only one you've seen, Kiyori-chan?" he asked, knowing the girl's name from the mission he had been sent on.

They ran and ran through the darkness, Kiyori searching desperately in front of them for anything she could think of that would lead them somewhere different. Anywhere was fine as long as that thing wasn't near them. She had heard what she thought was a death scream, but she still wasn't taking chances. It was only after about 2 or 3 minutes of straight running that she finally stopped, gasping for breath as she looked at the new inmate in this prison of darkness. He was muscular, carried multiple swords too; an accomplished swordsman from the looks of it. And his allegiance was with Suna, so he was an ally... that was about as good as it got though, as it now seemed they were -both- trapped.

"Yes... That's the only dangerous creature I've seen thus far. I'll assume you know my name because you were sent out for me? I know I haven't met you before today Arata." Kiyori stretched and tried to gained her breath back, once again looking around the area and taking in her surroundings with her Doujutsu to the best of her ability. She needed to make sure she had some idea of where they were and where they had been, on the off chance they needed to backtrack.

"Are there others? I've been stuck down here for at least 2 and a half weeks, maybe three. I'm just praying to Her Light that the sun's rays might reach us down here... this darkness is far too oppressive. I'm losing hope by the hour... Have we been abandoned by Her Light?" She looked to Arata and was clearly almost in tears, she was looking for something, anything to grasp on to. Something to give her hope and keep her going.

For several moments Arata stood there catching his breath, but it wasn't long before he was reaching into a pocket and withdrawing a cigarette and a matchbook. He took a moment to light the smoke as Kiyori spoke to him and the man couldn't help but chuckle.

"Yes, I was part of the search party." he admitted, take a deep breath of the rather pungeant smoke. "When I saw your name I remembered seeing you at the Scribes' library from time to time, so I took the mission." he added, finding a pillar to lean against as he glanced around, glad to see no sign of their scorpion friend, or any of his friends if he had any. As she asked more questions he started to tell her there were more, but couldn't help it as he began to laugh, shaking his head.

"Right. Her Light." he scoffed. "Sometimes I forget I'm the only one in that damn village it seems to have any idea of reality, the rest of you are stuck in some damn fantasy." he mocked, glancing around the cavernous room again. "Yeah, its dark, sweetheart, but I wouldn't worry about some fictional god or goddess. We'll get ourselves out of this mess, we're shinobi and that's what we do." he said seriously, his eyes narrowing as he looked at the woman. "Is it your time down here or that damned religion that's made you forget you're a shinobi, girl? Forget a figment and find your own way out of here." he added as he pushed off the pillar and stepped away from it, almost seeming to pace as he looked around the room.

"So tell me, what do you know of where we are so far?"

Kiyori could only sigh and shake her head, tears welling in her eyes and even a single drop running down her cheek as Arata made clear that he was not a true believer. Her hand instinctively reached for her ruby flame pendent, twirling it nervously as her thoughts went through this troubling information... but she came to a conclusion. "I now know why you've been sent down here with me Arata... I am to show you the way to Her Light. I have not been abandoned, this is merely another test... I'll meet it head on, I won't hide from my duties!"

A newfound zeal erupted within Kiyori; odd how something that would normally get the girl so down proved to be exactly the kick she needed to keep going. She needed to survive to prove to this non believer the power and grace of Her Light. "Now then, you asked what I know? Hmm... a moment please." Kiyori took some time to search through her Dousatsugan, recalling all of the time she had been here and looking for any key details that may give some sort of information as to their whereabouts. Suddenly she recalled a symbol in the first room of this place, the room where she had to burn all the moss to make her way inside the actual building. With a snap of her fingers and an excited smile she looked back to Arata.

"A ha! At what I can only assume to be the opening gate, I saw many symbols and ancient hieroglyphs. One in particular however stood out, it reminded me of something, but I wasn't really sure of it until the topic of Yuumagure just now. It's one of the ancient symbols for 'sun' overlapping with the symbol for 'kami'. I think this temple belonged to an ancient sect of Yuumagure followers, but that type of language and symbolism hasn't been used for centuries at least... there's no telling how old this place is." As she spoke, she traced the symbol in question into the dust at her feet, allowing Arata the chance to see what she was talking about.

"As for a way out, trust me, I've been looking. I made my way into the temple to get safely out of the caverns that came before, and used what firewood and rations I had to buy myself some training time. In that time I learned not only to use my ears instead of my eyes, but also to create Katon as a light source." She would point to the small orb of flame orbiting her head as she spoke. "Beyond that however, I'm unsure. I got lost in a maze of hallways and then I found you and that scorpion. I haven't explored much deeper yet."

Arata paused in his smoking to simply stare at Kiyori as she began talking about showing him "her" light. The man didn't say a word and only shook his head in response. Many had tried to bring him back to faith, but no one had succeeded yet and for good reason. He had lost too much to that faith already he felt, and it had never done anything to help him along.

As she went on to try and comb through her own memories, Arata went back to smoking for a moment as he waited for the results. He had to bite his tongue as she spoke of training and instead kept the immediate thoughts he had to himself. 'Who takes time to train instead of working to find a way out?' As she naturally came to draw parallels between their location and Suna's religion he resisted the urge to sigh and instead focused on what else she spoke of.

"Well I guess we go deeper then." he remarked. "Clearly where we've both been doesn't give us a way out, we'll have to move forward." he added as he finished his cigarette and dropped it to the ground, putting it out with his foot.

As they began to travel deeper, searching for an exit of some kind, they would find themselves still in a great cavernous hall full of pillars for some time. Silence reigned and there seemed to be no sound but for the two of them, a fact that honestly had Arata feeling rather unsettled. They had encountered one giant scorpion, and as much as he hated that, he couldn't help but to think that there had to be more. He kept his head on a swivel as they walked along with Kiyori's little orb moving right alongside them. It would be at least a couple of hours before they seemed to come to some kind of end of the hall where there were three doorways.

The one on the left seemed to lead downward into darkness. The one in the middle simply led forward down a narrow passage that also seemed dark. The one on the right seemed to lead upward and into darkness... save for a single flickering light. But the right passage also had a quiet sound coming from it, a scratching that caused Arata to shiver. Looking at the three passages he felt he knew which the girl would want to take, and for some reason it sickened him. "So which shall it be, little love?" he asked Kiyori, turning to look at the woman.

Kiyori nodded in response to Arata's decision to go deeper. After all he was right, going backwards served no purpose other than to head back towards that scorpion, and perhaps it's friends. "Agreed. Let us progress further into this darkness. After all, it's always darkest just before dawn... If we are to reach the light, it seems we must continue to brave this darkness." She took a deep breath to strengthen her resolve, reached up and grabbed hold of her ruby pendant, and said a small mental prayer to Her Light. After that was said and done, her Katon jutsu would have finally dwindled away to nothing, so with a few more hand seals light would once more fill the darkness as her little ball of flame hovered overhead.

And with that, she made her way through the darkness once again, with Arata in tow, until they reached a spilt in the halls. One lead down, one lead forward, and one lead up. All seemed normal... except for the small glint of light that Kiyori saw in the path that lead up. "Could it be?" Arata's comment admittedly got a raised eyebrow out of the woman, but she was more concerned with the light she could see than she was with his lecherous comments. "Arata, a light. That could be a way out! Come on!" Kiyori would then excitedly, though carefully, make her way up the stairs towards the glint of light, being mindful of her surroundings and keeping her ears finely tuned in the event that something wasn't quite right...

Arata walked alongside Kiyori, keeping his head moving as both looked and listed for any pending threats. The scorpion had left him on edge, and he had a bad feeling that wouldn't be the last thing they faced. As they approached the three doorways at last, Arata was hoping to feel relieved. But before he could even ask the woman about their options, she became excited and moved for the lit hallway.

"Wait, Kiyori we should t-dammit woman!" As he tried to get her attention she took the stairs and moved nearly out of earshot. Arata, now a little behind as he had stopped, took off after the girl in an attempt to catch up. 'This is too good to be true... which means this has got to be bad...' he thought as he went.

This would be a moment where he hated being right.

By time he got to the top of the stairs and a frozen-in-place Kiyori, he didnt have much time to think, much less react. The light had been created from a large spider creature that towered over the both of them, its legs holding it at least seven feet high, and in front of it dangled an orb of light that seemed to serve the function of attracting prey as it hung from something that came from its back. It was as Arata came up behind Kiyori that it was pulling this orb back in preparation to strike.

As quickly as he could move, Arata shoved Kiyori forward, underneathed the eight-eyed abomination, bringing his hands up as quickly as he could afterwards, just as the feelers on the deadly mouth touched his right shoulder. His hands grabbed onto the fangs and was able to slow their descent, but not entirely stop them. He shouted in pain as they tore into him, just above the collarbone, and he yelled at Kiyori. "BURN IT! NOW!"

Kiyori was so captivated by the light ahead of her, so excited to finally be free of this darkness, that she had no idea what was attached to it... until she saw 8 pitch black orbs staring back at her. She was totally frozen; her brain told her to move out of the way, but her body just sat there, stunned with fear. That is, until Arata's hand shoved her towards the creature, underneath it's fangs and body just as it was about to strike. She then heard the shout of pain as it lunged forward and dug into Arata, followed by his command.

She finally snapped to as he told her to burn the beast, and without even thinking her hands began weaving a series of hand seals as she rolled over on to her back, so that she was facing the underside of the beast. As she finished her hand seals, she tucked her legs in and rolled on to her hands, adopting a hand stand stance before pushing off of her hands towards the underbelly of the spider. "Arata, Try and get free of it's fangs!"

Once her feet made contact, She would release all the power within her body built up through the hand stand stance and attempt to launch the beast into the air, and off of Arata. Whether that worked or not, Kiyori would push herself off of the spider and back towards the ground, then look up to the creature before breathing out a thin, wispy line of fire towards it. Once the fire made contact with the creature, the fire would collapse in on the point of contact all at once, setting the spider ablaze in an instant.
Jutsu UsedShow
Ryuusei Ken - Handstand stance
C-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
Prerequisite: 15 Taijutsu
Kiyori has developed the ability to use her hands as though they were her feet, flipping upside down and walking on her hands at her normal speed. She is perfectly capable of doing all the things she could normally do on her feet, such as stand on one hand and push herself into a jump off of her hands. This stance is primarily for enabling her to use more of her kicking techniques, as it frees up her legs to function more like arms for striking purposes.

Ryuusei Ken - Rising Thrust Kick
C rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: Handstand Stance
While Kiyori balances on her hands, she is capable of generating more power with her feet by using her hands to spring into the attack. What results is an upwards foot thrust capable of launching an opponent skyward easily as well as causing considerable damage. This technique can be followed up easily, as the opponent is left in a rather vulnerable aerial position.

*Katon • Flame Lash
B-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user breathes out gently and sends a wire-thin line of flames at a target. The line can travel up to 20 meters from the user at a speed of 20. If it connects to a target the contact point has all of the chakra forced into it at once, releasing flames all over the target and igniting them with ease.

Arata groaned at Kiyori's remark as he rolled his eyes and tried to push at the spider. "Working on it!" he yelled back with a great deal of effort. Grunting as he pushed he finally managed to push the spider back just enough to free its fangs from his flesh. It took everything he had left not to cry out as the fangs removed themselves, the pain almost twice as bad as when they had punctured him. With one final push and grunt of effort he managed to push it back a few inches, and a moment later the spider was flung into the air by Kiyori's kick.

Arata dropped to a knee, one hand going over his wounds as the blood seeped between his fingertips. But he still looked up enough to watch Kiyori's flame leash reach out and ignite the spider. He couldn't help but grin as he watched the thing go aflame, falling to the ground a few feet from them as it shrieked for several moments as it burned alive. Once he was sure it was dead, Arata dropped from his knee back to sitting on his butt, leaning against a wall as he tried to catch his breath and glanced around the room, flames dancing in the shadows from the burning spider's corpse. It wasn't a large room surprisingly, but the ceiling had a dark hole in it full of spider webs. It seemed to go up a bit and take a sharp curve, likely where the spider usually hid. The room was filled with carcasses from various critters, some small, some larger like the scorpion they had fought before. "We should check around here for any loot from other victims." he remarked, taking careful breaths to fight the pain.

He looked up as he saw Kiyori approach, knowing she was likely to try and look at his wound he tried to wave her off. "It's fine, just a scratch." he lied, not wanting to slow down on their trip because of his wounds. He had a feeling survival in this place might depend on them staying mobile.

'How does a girl you don't know matter so much to you?' He heard the question and froze a moment, shaking his head as if to rid himself of it, telling himself he only imagined it.

'Why does he protect you at his expense?' It was the same voice and a different question that would echo across Kiyori's mind.

Kiyori was quick to get clear of the flaming spider, not just because of whatever lashing out it might due but the fact that it could easily burn her if it got too close. Once she was sure it was dead, she wasted no time rushing to Arata's side, and hardly even heard him as he tried to wave her off. With surprising strength she would move his hand out of the way to inspect the wound the spider had left him, using her masterful knowledge of anatomy and attention to detail to get a grasp on just what the ramifications of the injury might be.

"The clavicle looks like it might be damaged... possibly a hairline fracture. The wounds appear deep, but no arteries or vitals were hit it seems. You should be fine, but try not to use this arm too much... oh no." Kiyori trailed off towards the end as she noticed a few drops of light green liquid on the man's skin... venom. "You need to sit down Arata, now. That spider had venom in it's fangs." She would insist the man sit - especially because before long that poison would hit his system, then he would have to sit.

It was around the time that the poison finally started to hit him that she heard it; the voice. She shook her head a moment to make sure she actually heard something, but wasn't too sure. Was I poisoned by something? I wasn't bit... something isn't right here. And what did it say about him? is it referring to Arata? What's going on... She didn't have too much time to think on it, as she was far more concerned with Arata's condition then the hallucinations in her mind.

Arata grimaced as she yanked his hand away from the wound to get a good look at it, he really didn't want to think about it right now frankly. He didn't want to know if he was about to die down here. Frowning he didn't move to try and stop her again, letting her look over the wound and going so far as to loosen his kimono shirt to allow her a better look at it. He went so far as to untie it entirely and remove it, holding it in his left hand as she had a look at him. Removing the shirt of course revealed the amount of work the man had put into his swordplay, showing the amount of muscle that made up his torso, shoulders, and arms. It even revealed a tattoo down his left shoulder and upper arm, though the wound Kiyori was looking at was on his right. "At least if it scars it won't mar the ink." he remarked with a chuckle, finding an odd comfort in that.

With a sigh his brown eyes shifted to watch Kiyori as she looked over the wounds and explained the damage to him, most of it of course he knew already. Though as she mentioned venom and tried to tell him to sit he shook his head. "Sitting won't make a damn bit of difference." he countered. "We need to keep moving." he added. "Doesn't matter what that venom does to me."

But the girl was right, he wasn't going to have much choice for long. He could feel a burning sensation starting in the wound already and a dizziness hit him like a brick to the head. Swallowing hard to keep from throwing up he slid down the wall to sit on the floor, muttering to himself. "...maybe just for a minute." For a moment he simply took a few deep breaths, trying to steady himself before looking up at Kiyori. "If I can't move, you're going to have to keep going." he told her. "My job was to find you, and I'm going to make damn sure you get out of here."

Kiyori was about to sit the bastard down herself if she had to, but unfortunately her diagnosis was correct; it wasn't long before the venom hit Arata like a rock. Suddenly he slid down the wall slowly, until he rested on the ground. His breath was labored and it was clear he felt ill; likely some nausea as a result of his body realizing it was poisoned. It wouldn't surprise her if he ended up vomiting as a result, but whatever the response was they'd be stuck here for a while it seemed. At the least they'd have to rest until the poison passed through his system. The worst part was that she had no idea how strong the venom might be... it could prove to be lethal.

But then he had to open his mouth and tell her that she might have to keep going without him. She had to resist the urge to slap him, but she wasn't going to hold back her anger. As she spoke, she tore part of the man's Kimono off to use as a bandage for his wound, and would begin doing what she could to wrap the wound tight to stop blood loss. "Spare me the macho 'mission comes first' bullshit Arata. We're both getting out of here alive, and that's final. If you can't move, I'll stay here and protect you until you can. Don't you dare tell me to abandon you after you came out here to save me. If you weren't already suffering I'd have smacked you for saying such nonsense."

While she treated his wound and did whatever she could to mitigate the suffering of her ally, she would also take some time to examine the room around her. Between the light of the still flaming corpse of the spider and the ball of flame above her head, she would hopefully be able to see if the room had another way out. If not, the two would have to backtrack and choose a different path... when Arata was capable of doing so of course.

[Graded][Plotboard - Closed] Darkness Looms

As Kiyori spoke and bandaged his wound with rags torn from his own shirt, Arata reached out and suddenly snatched one of her hands in a firm grip, leveling an icy look at the woman. "It isn't me trying to be macho or some male dominance bullshit." he told her harshly. "I am a shinobi, I was sent here on a mission, and signing up meant I might die. I can accept that. But I will not accept failure." he said emphatically to her, only releasing her hand when he was done talking. "No matter what obligation you feel towards me for me helping you, the mission doesn't change, and neither does the possibility of me dying."

When she was done with the wound, Arata waited until she was taking a look around the room to reach into an inside pocket and pull out a rolled cigarette, lighting it and taking a drag off of it as he tried to settle his nausea with the herb within it. Though honestly it didn't seem to help, the venom working against him still.

As Kiyori looked she would find very little different in the room. The main entrance and exits were the one they came in from, and a doorway across the room that led downwards once more. In the roof was still the gaping hole that had clearly been the spider's home, filled with webs and likely unsavoriness beyond. The only thing truly of note in the room were the walls on either side. Both walls were covered in ornate carvings of a lost language, and both murals were very different.

One depicted a woman who seemed to shine like the sun, hands pointed downwards towards an ornate alter. The other depicted a canine type figure howling to the moon as the clouds began to cover it, and yet a hand of light stretched out to it from that same moon. Both quite cryptic without understanding of the ancient language.

Kiyori wanted to roll her eyes at the man's willingness to sacrifice life and limb just to succeed at this mission... but she understood the sentiment at least. She didn't agree with it, but she understood it. All she could do was sigh and drop the topic for now, and go back to looking for their next best course of action. The doorway on the other side of the room was the only other way forward, so it seemed to be the logical path to take... when Arata was capable of course.

On top of that, there was the sides of the room... the murals. Beautifully and masterfully carved, they both depicted something of equal mystery. The one having to do with the sun made her earlier inferences of the place being dedicated to Yuumagure worship all the more plausible, but the side depicting the canine and the moon made things... difficult to determine. And even with her memorizing of dozens of languages both old and new, she couldn't readily decipher the text on the walls. There was too much conjecture to draw any conclusions right now, and she had more pressing matters to attend to.

She turned to mention this to Arata just in time to see the rolled paper in his mouth, and just in time to catch the pungent odor emanating from the smoke he billowed out. An immediate coughing fit ensued as she tried to wave the smoke away. "Bleh! What is that smell? It's horrible! Doesn't smell like any kind of tobacco I've ever heard of."

Arata watched the girl as she looked over the murals each in turn as he took a drag from his cigarette. He couldn't help the small smile that tugged at his lips as he watched, and not because of his normal lewd thoughts, it was just watching her look them over and how captivated she seemed by them. "Can you read any of it?" he asked her quietly as he took a moment to pull the drug from his lips. It wasn't often he got to see someone so involved in their own work, when it wasn't some kind of training anyway. It was rather interesting to the man to see how much she enjoyed looking over the murals, and almost adorable as he watched the confusion cross her brow as she looked at the canine and moon carving.

Of course as she finally turned towards him she went into a coughing fit he couldn't help a laugh. "It isn't tobacco." he admitted aloud. "Something far better..." he added, frowning as he looked at her a moment. He knew the moment she realized what it was she'd likely give him an earful for it. "And before you freak, no I don't usually smoke on mission... but it helps with nausea, though it might help me with the side effects of this venom." he explained before finally trying to stand.

Clamping the smoke between his lips he braced against the wall and pushed himself to his feet, pausing a moment for deep breaths as he steadied himself and turned his gaze back to Kiyori. "So which way? Forward or back?"

Kiyori couldn't help but wonder what exactly the man meant when he said "something better" than tobacco... but then it dawned on her. "Where would you even -get- Marijuana in Suna Arata? It's banned, and smuggling is practically unheard of. You'd have to grow it within the village, and from what I understand Marijuana plants require very specific lighting, heat and water, which would be very difficult to..." Kiyori trailed off in her analysis and memory recall of what little she knew about the devil's lettuce because suddenly it hit her... the smoke. She breathed it in...

Suddenly she felt funny. And then sort of... happy. And then mad, because she realized what was happening. And then worried, because the effects of the THC were messing with her mind, and thus her doujutsu was being messed with as well. It wasn't long before memories of the fight with the spider just a few moments ago were overlapping with real life, and when combined with the effects of the THC, it almost sent Kiyori into a panic attack. Luckily, the woman was smart enough to close the floodgates, using a bit of chakra to temporarily deactivate her doujutsu while under the effects of the herb Arata had taken to smoking. Through labored breaths and with a few shakes of her head to get her mind in check, she spoke.

"I'm gonna go stand over here... Keep that herb away from me. I need to... shake this feeling. And no, I couldn't read it." She hated having her doujutsu off; all of those memories, all of that information... completely inaccessible during these moments. She only hoped the effects would wear off before she needed her Doujutsu again...

Despite what many may believe, there are times where the Henrin's Dousatsugan can be quite a nuisance. Due to these instances, Kiyori created a simple technique that allows her to temporarily turn off the Dousatsugan. By channeling a small amount of chakra through her eyes to inhibit the consistent flow of chakra, Kiyori can turn her Dousatsugan on or off at will. This doesn't refund the -3 stamina while the Dousatsugan is off, it only makes it so that if the Dousatsugan would be a detriment to the situation, Kiyori can opt to shut it off.

As Kiyori seemed to go on a mini rant about the herb Arata was smoking, the man simply grinned like the devil at her, at least until she began reacting to it. He never answered her question about how he obtained it or if he grew it... those were secrets the man had kept to himself a very long time and he planned to keep it that way. But with a frown he watched the girl react to the smell and while in some ways he thought she might be over-dramatizing it all, having no knowledge of her doujutsu and how this interfered, he proceeded to pinch off the part of the blunt that was burning and put it out with a foot, tucking what was left of it away in a pocket.

"Easy, girl, it's gone, okay?" He said simply as he did so, carefully making is way towards her and putting a hand on her shoulder, seeming to try and disregard his own issue to make sure she was okay. "It usually helps with nausea so I thought it might be worth trying. If it makes you feel any better... it didn't do shit." he said, trying to grin at the girl in humor but having no luck.

He looked towards the mural opposite them a moment, staring at the strange moon and outstretched arm, and the canine. It struck him somehow, but he wasn't sure how, and shaking his head he turned his attention to the girl. "Let's try to get moving, alright?" he offered, pointing towards the passage out with his injured side.

If the pair began to make their way through the hallway they would find it narrow and, if either were claustrophobic, rather difficult to walk. It wound downwards for so long it felt like the pair were taking a journey to the center of the earth, but somehow there was light. There were no crevices or cracks for light to peak through, and no sources as such, but the stone itself seemed to have a slight pale to it that acted as a light. Before long it would open up into a large and open room, and at the bottom of the stairs Arata would stop and stare at the little critters he spied in a corner of the room. They were little degu.

"...when's the last time you ate?" he asked Kiyori carefully.

Kiyori continued to try and shake the feeling of the THC in her system, her dull black eyes looking towards Arata as he put the blunt out. She didn't necessarily want to tell him to put it out... after all, even she knew that marijuana was supposed to help with nausea... or was it? She wasn't too sure, and without her doujutsu to confirm, she didn't feel comfortable stating it as fact. Either way, even a placebo effect could have been something useful to him. But regardless, the blunt was already out, and Kiyori tried to straighten up and stay somewhat professional.

"I... I'm sorry about that. If it helps, keep going. Just... it messes with my eyes. The effects... they jumble my memories. You... Do you know what the Henrin doujutsu does?" She genuinely wasn't sure if he did or not, and the fact that anything that messed with the mind messed with their doujutsu was a well kept secret within the Henrin clan. So no doubt he had 0 idea why she was reacting the way she was, or why she deactivated the Dousatsugan.

Regardless, the man was obviously capable of standing, though he was still very pale and likely still feeling the effects of that poison. Still, if he could move, he had a point; they needed to make progress as fast as possible. And they -definitely- needed to get away from this nest... one could only hope there weren't any other spiders in the area...

As they made their way through the narrow cavern, Kiyori would lead the way with her little ball of flame floating overhead, a light crackling coming from the fire. The enclosed area admittedly made her a little uneasy, but it wasn't nearly as bad as long as she had light. Plus the pale stone helped to see a bit more, and so when they entered the room, she was quick to spot the adorable Degu in the corner of the room. She was about to see if she could creep up on them a bit and perhaps pet one, because even in this sort of situation she couldn't help but be overcome with their cuteness.

But then Arata asked about food, and as if something clicked in her stomach a low grumble could be heard throughout the cavern. "Well... Probably yesterday if I had to guess. I think I have some more rations though, let me look. Why are you hungry? I think marijuana has that affect on people right?" With that Kiyori would take off her travel backpack and set it down in front of her, turning her back on the Degu for a moment while she searched for food.

"Don't worry about it. You aren't the first one to get upset with my habit." Arata replied, winking down at Kiyori as he stood beside her, reaching out to rest a hand on her back as he tried to help steady her, despite his own issues. As she asked him if he knew about her doujutsu, the man shook his head. "I know nothing about it." he admitted. "I don't usually get opportunities to spend time around clan members, especially the female variety. Their parents usually swoop in and steal them away." he told her with a chuckle before they turned for the exit.

Truth be told, as they were faced with the small collection of degu, he wasn't surprised to hear that she hadn't eaten for awhile, and the man shook his head. "I'm fine." he told her in a whisper. "It can make you hungry, but it doesn't do that for me, been smoking it too long." He waved at her to get her attention and shook his head. "Put the rations away, you'll want to save those." he told her before he turned towards the degu.

There was a group of about four of them, and in a quick movement Arata had drawn his sword and a few unfortunate squeaks later, he had three degu dead at his feet, the other one having gotten away. He'd managed to cut them without doing too much damage and he picked them up, walking back over towards Kiyori. "There won't be much meat on their bones but its something... Why don't you start a fire? Never know when we'll find something fit to eat again so may as well save the rations for later."

As he spoke, a voice would float across the young Henrin's thoughts once more. "He hunts for you. Willing to die for you. Tell me of this man?"

Kiyori continued trying to shake her mind of the effects of the herb, to no effect it seemed as it was clearly a potent brand that would stick around for a while. He admitted that he knew nothing about the Henrin Doujutsu, though she was slightly confused by his reasoning... why would parents swoop in like that? Regardless, she would take a moment to explain. "The Dousatsugan records everything it sees and can replay anything it sees with perfect accuracy. By doing so, I can remember with 100% accuracy something that I saw 10 years ago as if I was literally looking at it right this very second. This extends to other senses as well; I can hear, feel, smell and taste things from years ago as if I was just now doing so."

With her explanation finished, she proceeded to respond to the man's next statement, telling her to put her rations away. At first she wanted to ask why... but the reason became very clear, very fast. The small squeaks broke her heart, and tears quickly welled up in her eyes. "But... I had perfectly good rations! You didn't need to do that! I get that we need to survive but... but that wasn't necessary yet!" Kiyori couldn't help the tears that streamed down her face, and she quickly ran over towards where the last Degu had run off to hide, a small piece of bread in hand.

The little Degu had gone within a small crevice in the rocks, and was clearly intent on hiding from the two shinobi... that is, until it sniffed the bread. Slowly, cautiously, the Degu began making it's way towards Kiyori. It was clearly hungry, and desperately wanted the food Kiyori was offering. It took a bit of coaxing, but eventually she had lead the creature into the palm of her hand, and after giving the bread to it she stood up and looked at the little mouse-like creature. It took another piece of bread to make sure it wouldn't immediately run off, but eventually the little degu was standing on his shoulder.

"I... I'm sorry. You're right, whatever we can do to conserve our rations is beneficial in the long run. Just... I hate to see life taken like that, even something as small and replaceable as a little Degu." Kiyori gave the degu on her shoulder one more piece of bread before continuing, gently stroking the top of it's head as she spoke. "I hate the thought of killing something. I even feel bad about that spider we had to kill. Just... just don't let me see it next time please. I just can't deal with that, it kills me inside."

It was then that that voice spoke to her mind again, earning another shake of her head, though this time she paid more attention to the words the voice was speaking. I... I have no idea what's going on here. I know nothing of Arata, other then what I've learned the past hour or so I've been with him. What... Who's there? Am I going mad?

As Arata was picking up the three degu he had managed to kill, he heard Kiyori's outburst and turned to look at her, both eyebrows slightly raised as he watched her go after the surviving degu. He shook his head as he watched her coax the little animal out of hiding, but he said nothing. The girl seemed so far to be a skilled shinobi but this naive mercy he was seeing in the girl was completely unexpected, and he wasn't entirely sure how to handle it. He turned back to the corner where they had been and took his smallest blade, using the tip of it carefully to skin the dead degu and prep them for cooking as best as he could. "Could you light a fire please?" he asked of her quietly as she fed the degu on her shoulder. He still didn't chide her, though as she was hopefully lighting a fire he went to get a single piece of stone that was flat enough which he would use to set in the fire and warm the stone. He could use it like a small grill to cook the little rodents.

Before long they'd hopefully be sizzling and Arata still hadn't said much in response to Kiyori. He watched her a moment as she fed the surviving degu that was now on her shoulder. "I will try to make sure you don't see it next time." he promised her quietly, though he clearly didn't seem to happy about it. He was having a hard time believing the girl had survived this far without eating something other than rations... without killing something.

Taking a few deep breaths to steady himself he'd sit against a wall as he waited for food to cook, oblivious to the voice that had come through Kiyori's mind as it had not reached out for him at all this time.

'You are not mad.' the voice assured the girl, a light chuckle coming from him as he spoke. 'You are tested... as is your friend... how you fare will determine your fate.' A chuckle followed again, echoing into silence as the voice left her alone once more.

Kiyori wiped away one more tear and handed the Degu on her shoulder one more piece of bread before complying with Arata's wish. Performing a short series of hand seals, Kiyori would blow out a small stream of flame, creating a small flame on the ground at Arata's feet. With two orbs of light in the room, the area was much brighter now, and it made it easier to see whatever else was within the area. Once Arata was getting ready to prepare the little Degu, likely the family of the one on her shoulder, Kiyori couldn't help but to gently grip the little creature before stuffing it into her top. It would be nice and comfy and safe there, and it wouldn't have to see what was being done to it's kin.

She gave a silent nod as a thank you for arata's compliance with her soft hearted desires. "I appreciate it... I think i'll be going vegetarian after all this is said and done. Seeing that sort of thing with my own eyes... I don't even really want to eat it. Were it not for our circumstances, I wouldn't... but I must." As she spoke, a little head poked out of her bra, but Kiyori quickly turned her back on the makeshift grill. She didn't want her new friend to see what was becoming of his kin. "You shouldn't see what he's about to do to them little one. I don't want you to see your kin all minced up like that... heh. Menchi... It's ironic, but it's cute."

She looked down at the little critter looking up at her with big black curious eyes. "Menchi... I like it. What do you think?" The creature gave a small squeek, as if it was approving of the name. A light finger across the head of the creature would cause it to close it's eyes before it burrowed back into the woman's chest. It was then that the voice once more echoed in her mind, though this time she was more accepting of it's presence. How we fare? What are you on about? Who are you!?

"Did you hear something just now Arata? A voice or something?"

Arata listened as he began cooking the little degus, though he shook his head as Kiyori spoke. "That's an extreme reaction don't you think?" he remarked, turning to look at Kiyori and chuckling as he saw where the living degu had taken up residence. "Animals sacrifice that we might live, it is simply the circle of life." he told her, finally grinning at the degu as it ducked back away into Kiyori's clothing. "You know, I can't help but feel a little jealous of that fuzzball..." he remarked, shaking his head.

"Seems like a morbid name." he remarked as he turned back to the food and suddenly froze. "I didn't hear a voice." he remarked. "But..." His words trailed off as he looked towards another doorway in the place. There were movements in the shadows and Arata wasn't liking it. For the man himself he suddenly saw a group of spiders come skittering into the room, and one as large as the one they'd already killed lingered in the doorway. "Shitshitshit... they smelled the food!" He yelled as he suddenly jumped back from what he was cooking, hands going to the hilts of his weapons. He wobbled a bit as he moved, still feeling a little bit of the effect of the poison from before, but not nearly as bad.

For Kiyori it was much different. The hallway outside of the door suddenly dimmed and was covered in shadow, just as something came into the doorway. Clearly a corpse it moved haltingly, groaning with the effort, blue hair dangling in her face and crystalline skin reflecting the firelight.

Kiyori took in the man's words, knowing full well that what he said was true... On a moral level however, she couldn't agree. It was only because of the survival situation that they were in that she wasn't more upset with him. However, she couldn't help but roll her eyes and level a deadpan stare at him as he mentioned feeling jealous for Menchi. "You can remain jealous, perv." Was all she would state in response. He began to mention not hearing a voice, but before he could continue, she heard something. Slowly, a shadow emerged in the hallway and moved towards her and the fire. At first she took a battle ready pose and was clearly ready to fight... but then she saw it. Blue hair. Crystal skin... Rotting flesh. Empty Eye Sockets. Immediately, her Doujutsu reactivated, as if on it's own, and she took in the sight for what it was... There was no mistake.

It was Emi. Her deceased lover.

"...Emi? No... No! This can't be real! I... I was there when your ashes were scattered to the winds! This must be fake!" Kiyori proceeded to attempt to Kai the technique, believing it to be genjutsu of some sort... but nothing happened. It didn't go away. Why? Why didn't it go away? Again she tried, squinting her eyes as she did so in the hopes that this false illusion would dissipate... nothing. "This can't be real, you can't be... Emi. I..." Kiyori fell to her knees, her hands over her eyes as the thing lumbered closer. All she could do was shake her head over and over, continuously chanting to herself "This can't be real." Louder and louder until she was practically shouting it.

All she could do was hope it wasn't real... her kai wasn't working, and if that was the case the amount of pain she'd have to inflict on herself was too much of a detriment to her survival in this place. Tears continued to stream down her face as she muttered over and over again to herself.

As Arata tried to scramble away from the bugs overwhelming their food, he saw something strange happen. Kiyori was reacting differently, she didn't move away, even as he thought he saw them climbing over her foot. She cried for someone, she spoke a name, as if she was seeing someone before them. As she began to melt down emotionally, Arata came to realize something. This was fake. He tried to kai as well and it did nothing, though he knew with his lack of experience in the area it might not work anyway.

Then again, it seemed to fade. It was rare for Arata to be the one to piece clues together, but as he came to realize for certain that what he was seeing wasn't real, he saw the illusion waver and melt away. He really wasn't sure if what he was was any better, but he could suddenly see the danger they were both in.

Arata suddenly jumped over and wrapped both arms around Kiyori from behind her, pulling her back against his chest as he whispered frantically in her ear. "Kiyori! It's not real!" He told her. "It won't kai! I saw bugs crawling all over our food... you need to know its fake! It's not real! You have to KNOW IT!" He told her, praying this would work as this thing took a couple steps closer to them.

He wished he didn't have to expose her to what it really was either though, but it was for her own good.

Kiyori was utterly stunned, frozen in place by a variety of emotions; fear, despair, disbelief, confusion, shock... the feelings welling up in the woman were innumerable. The corpse of her deceased lover grew closer, she could smell the stench of death emanating from the shambling figure, she could sense the impending doom... and yet she didn't move an inch. She sat their, tears streaming down her face, unable to do a thing except watch this -thing- approach her with pure malice. Were it not for Arata's physical intervention, she surely would have died.

With a sudden jerk of her body, Kiyori was pulled back from walking corpse of Emi. His words were clearly heard, but they weren't registering immediately. It was as if the man's hectic speech was put on a backlog in her mind; it took time for her to process what he was saying, and what she needed to do. And even when she did figure it out, it was something that was easier said then done. It looked every bit like her though, it was hard to simply 'know' it was fake... but then her hand went up towards her neck, reaching for the ruby necklace crafted by her lover before her death.

The moment she touched it, everything in her mind changed; It was like a fog had been lifted from her eyes. Touching the pendant reminded her of the true fate of Emi Kouseki, her eyes took her back to the day of her death, and the spreading of her ashes. No, there was no way this was Emi. And just like that, the illusion was lifted, and Kiyori was now face to face with the true enemy...

Whatever it was, it was about to wish it had not tricked her with false images of her lover.

The woman's face suddenly contorted into pure rage incarnate. With a quick wrench of her body she would break free from Arata's grasp and push her body back into his to push him back, giving her room. With the creature so close, She would start with a simple backflip. During this flip, she would aim a kick at the creature's face. Then, she would land on her hands in a hand stand before aiming another powerful two-leg kick to the creature's chest, launching it into the air before following it up by pushing off of her hands.

Now that the two were in the air, Kiyori would deliver a punch to the creature's stomach with all of her might, while simultaneously kicking off of the air itself to follow the creature as it flew through the air towards a wall. The creature would hit the wall with incredible force before Kiyori landed on the wall beside it, delivering a kick to it's back to send it in yet another direction that she would again follow by kicking off of the wall. Again, it would hit the wall, and Kiyori would follow with another blow, launching it towards another wall. This would continue for a total of twelve attacks, all happening with incredible speed, before finally she would launch the creature up into the air above where they had initially started

With one last leap she would position herself above the creature before she began a series of front flips, spinning faster and faster; so fast that Arata would hear the sound of wind being generated by her body spinning in the air. Finally, with a scream of inarticulate fury, the woman's right foot extended out, delivering what should have been a beyond fatal blow to the back of the spider-woman's skull and sending the body hurtling back to the ground, likely leaving a small crater in the earth where it landed. Kiyori on the other hand would follow through with the momentum of the last kick and fly slightly forward, landing on the earth on her hands and knees with labored breath and sweat dripping from her body.

It was clear the attack took a great deal from her; and this was the first time she had used it in anything except training. Still, her face was filled with rage as her hands clenched at the dirt beneath her fingers. She wanted to make sure the thing was truly dead, but she couldn't bring herself to rise from the earth...

Ryuusei Ken - Meteor Shower
A-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Kiyori begins this incredible feat of aerial combat by launching her target into the air through either the Leaf Shadow Dance or a technique of similar design. After doing so, Kiyori will follow her target into the air and hit them with all her strength, launching them away from her but keeping them airborne. She will then use her strength to boost herself off of the air beneath her feet, launching her in the same direction as her opponent to catch up with them. Once she does so, she will proceed to hit them in another direction before repeating the same step of dashing to catch them once more. This will continue for a multitude of hits, twelve in all, before she launches them high into the air. Finally, to conclude this assault, she will begin to frontflip multiple times with incredible speed before delivering a powerful heel drop to the back of the target's skull, sending them down to collide with the earth while she makes her own safe landing.

[Graded][Plotboard - Closed] Darkness Looms

Arata grunted as Kiyori tried to knock him back. Though the blow wouldn't be enough to even stagger him, the man quickly got the hint and took several steps back as he watched what was about to transpire. His brown eyes went wide as he watched, stunned by the maneuverability of the woman before him. It seemed what the beast had going for it to induce fear, had nothing to do with actual physical prowess as every strike and blow from Kiyori seemed to tear it apart just a little bit more. By time it hit the ground a final time it twitched before it even tried to stand, and this time it was Arata that wouldn't going to give it a chance to move.

Wounded or no, the man didn't have to look to know the amount of work Kiyori had just put into those moves, and he wasn't about to leave her to do all the work herself either. The spider woman wasn't quite dead, though she was nearly there and Arata would leave no doubt. He drew the Odachi from his back as he stepped closer, glaring down at her as he stepped near and aimed the point of his blade to the ground. Before the spider-type beast could speak or protest, there was a crunch and a squish as he thrust the blade into her neck and wrenched it to the side, separating head from the rest.

As black blood oozed from the enemy's neck, Arata wiped his blade clean and sheathed it on his back once more before going to Kiyori. He didn't say a word at first, kneeling next to the girl before reaching out a hand to touch her on the shoulder. "Come on." he'd say quietly after several moments. "Let's get to the next room, find a place to rest." He didn't dare ask her what had enraged her so, or who or what she had seen to cause such a reaction.

He would likely never ask directly.
