Xiao Li was dressed in his “shinobi attire,” and was falling towards the earth at sickening speed. He had jumped from the balcony of his fourth-story apartment, as he did quite often, and was attempting make up lost time. Li was supposed to meet with a Chuunin just past noon that day, but had slept through his alarm. As he fell he gathered his chakra in his hands, using his Tree Climbing technique, and latched on to a wall to stop himself before he hit the ground. Once Li’s feet hit the ground he started running. “This is my first chance to leave the village and I'm already running late!” Li yelled out in frustration as he began forming hand seals. After he bit his thumb, causing his blood to flow, he slammed his hand on a nearby wall. This summoned his spirit known as Mooncatcher into the physical world, and would allow Li to use his favorite technique.

He quickly formed seals again, and called Mooncatcher over to him. As soon as the seals were complete Mooncatcher flew into his body, and Li began to change. He grew three inches in height, silvery-gray fur covered every inch of his body, except his face, and a tail grew out from his tailbone. The tail was three feet long, and had two ends. Li's eyes also grew in size, as well as changing in color. They were now a bioluminescent silver color, reminiscent of moonlight.

Along with the aesthetic changes, his body also grew in strength, allowing the monkey boy to run faster than before. With his transformation complete, it did not take but a few minutes for him to arrive. To Li’s surprise the Chuunin had yet to arrive.

The arrival of the chunnin would be heralded by the sound of hiccups. Walking down the road, heading towards Xiao Li, was a shinobi in the standard shinobi guard for Sunagakure with the addition of a very large sun hat. He had on his person what appeared to be two butt bags on his right hip, and two small gourds on his left. He walked with a slight stagger in his step and it was plain to see that his eyes were bleary and half lidded, his cheeks rosy. Even the most amateur of spotting the inebriated would be able to tell that this man was drunk walking! The chunnin made his way up to the monkey boy, stumbled a bit in his step which sent him reeling forward, his body like a wet noodle, before he stopped just short of falling over and stood up straight. His belligerent eyes looked the transformed genin up and down, his mouth pulled into a tight frown. He just... stared for a moment before taking a step back and reaching into his vest. He pulled out a folded piece of paper, opened it up and read in his own sloppy hand writing Xiao Li's name, with a side note he'd made to himself after reading the report on him that this young man sometimes could look like a monkey... for some reason. He hadn't really read into the why of it.

Sniffling, the chunnin put the piece of paper back into his vest. "Eeeeeeeeeeeyup. You're tha kid alright," he said, looking Xiao Li in the face again. There was an uncomfortable moment of silence as, once again, the chunnin just... stared. Then his posture straightened up with a hiccup, almost as if the knee-jerk reaction of his diaphragm had woken him up from. He held out his hand to shake, saying with slurred words, "My name is Shukusho. I's nice ta meetchya."

Li rolled his eyes as he watched the drunken man approach. He hated people who abused alcohol. They reminded him of his degenerate father. He rolled his eyes again when the man stated that Li was indeed the Genin he was supposed to meet with. When the man extended his hand to shake, Li giggled slightly, and used his tail to shake the man’s hand. ”I am Xiao Li sir. I was told to meet with you for a trip outside of the village. Other than that I was not told much.” His words were clear and concise, his tone completely business like.

While Li spoke he ended his transformation, and sent Mooncatcher back to the spirit world. His body reverted back to normal, and as it did so a thought occurred to him. Perhaps this man was a practitioner of the Drunken Fist martial style Li had read about. They were masters of appearing intoxicated in order to fool their opponents. While most of the users did not actually drink alcohol, Li had read that some actually drank in the middle of a fight just so they could ignite it when they spit it out, thus allowing them to breathe fire.

Shukusho gripped Li's tail and shook it like any other hand, pulling his own back and looking down at it briefly. He flexed his fingers and frowned. "You gots hairy palms, kid. You been playin' witchyer self too much," the chunin said, hiccuping and sniffling. "Our objective is real simple," Shukusho said, changing the subject. "You know that thing they found out there recently? A uh... tower thing? Somethin' like dat, ruins in the dessert. We're gonna go esplore those ru'ns and make sure there's nothin' all that danger'us 'n' stuff. 'Kay kid? Lesso!" With that said, apparently believing it to be a fitting explanation, the chunnin walked around the now more normal looking Li and headed forth towards the entrance of Sunagakure so that the two of them could head off towards the ruins, his stance wide so that he didn't sway as much.

Li’s face showed all of his distaste for the man, but his tone was completely polite as he replied with yes sir. The man seemed to be a drunkard, not a master of Drunken Fist. Why did he get stuck with such a man? Perhaps this was a test of his patience sent by the gods. Surely there would no other reason for Li to meet such a man. However, the idea of exploring the tower had Li bouncing with joy.

As the two approached the gates Li showed the guards his mission scroll, and watched as the gates began to open. He used to come watch people enter, and leave, the village in hopes of catching a glimpse of the outside world, and now he was actually getting to leave the Village! This was a major milestone for Li, and he wished that Ning could be there with him.

Ning had not only told Li about the tower, but of rumors that claimed spirits had escaped it into the desert. He secretly hoped to come across them on his trip so that he could test his skills in Tenkujutsu in a real fight. However, if he were telling the truth, he'd also say how terrified he was to get into his first fight.

The pair left the confines of Sunagakure and made their way out into the desert beyond. The hot sun beat down on their backs and the hot sand bit into the bottom of their sandals as they made their way along in what could be described as a leisurely pace for ninjas. They weren't walking, but they weren't sprinting either. They both moved at a nice, comfortable run with the chunnin in the lead of them both. Despite apparently being drunk as a skunk, Shukusho actually managed to keep ahead of Xiao Li the entire time. Perhaps it was just his training as a chunin showing through but he seemed to hardly even wobble despite moving much faster than the casual stroll he had moved at in the village. The two of them ran onwards for some time, each one proving to the other the endurance of Suna shinobi by keeping up such a brisk pace.

After close to an hour of travelling, Shukusho came to a stop and reached to to wipe his brow, panting heavily. "Phew! Alright, let's take a short break," he said, his words actually rather clear compared to what they had been back in the village. He reached down and grabbed a hold of the gord on his left hip, pulling it off of his belt and bringing it up to pop the cork off. He brought it up to his lips to take a drink but stopped, noticing the look that Xiao Li was giving him. "Oh relax, kid, it's just water!" he said before tilting his head back and taking a large swig. He let out a gasp after gulping down several mouth fulls and smiled, wiping his mouth and asking, "Shee? Ya want sum?" He held the gord out towards Xiao Li, shaking it back and forth and sloshing the liquid around. Whether or not the genin took him up on his offer to take a sip of what may or may not be water, he'd pop the cork back and tie it onto his belt, sniffling.

"So! How muchyakno about this tower business we're goin' to do?" he asked, turning to face his genin companion.
