Escort Mission

Post by Suitonic » Mon May 23, 2022 3:24 pm

Babysitting for shinobi. That's what most escort missions were…

But this one promised action, out of the league of your common village shinobi, where more than posturing and looking tough with a weapon was needed.
That's when you brought the real warriors in.

Airon had been contacted personally by the office of a corrupt official. How they heard he was in Pebble country and close enough to travel to the Land of Wind was unknown, but he figured his credentials must have spoken for himself. The job was relatively simple: escort the man around Wind Country while he did some shady back room deals and Airon would kill any assassins who got in the way. Fun stuff, easy ryo, and possible connections for future jobs. What wasn't there to like about this? This would be way more fun than the dam he helped out with a month ago in Lightning country.

"You sure about this one? I mean, we don't even have to come back here anymore." Hibana, his companion, chimed in as he strolled past several rough looking types. "Yeah. I've gotta do somethin' for these corrupt guys once in a while. Besides, how else am I supposed to get in and out of Sunagakure to visit my brother and sister without support from these officials?"

Airon arrived at the predetermined pickup point in Daiura, already geared up and ready to go in his normal attire. Alheri was slung over his shoulder. Weathered from it’s continued use, but ready to be wielded at a moments notice. Airon surveyed the area. Daiura was the perfect location for a missing-nin like himself. Sunagakure wasn’t exactly friendly with deserters, but with the criminal element that lately has gone unchecked with the Kazekage stepping down, he should be able to move around and do this mission without interference from hunter-nin.

Airon wondered if there would be anyone else showing up on this escort mission…

Escort Mission

A small child approached Airon and his companion alone. The three sat alone at night at a western-style diner. He wore nothing that drew attention. His white hair was his only outstanding feature. Toya extended a right hand in greeting and in his best efforts, attempted to emulate what he understood to be 'rural vernacular'. His view was that anything outside of suna's walls was barbaric, savage, uncivilized, etc. This view persisted regardless of how much he studied about the world and realized suna's shortcomings. His fault was not of ignorance, but sheer arrogance. "You, me, her, mission. Clear? We got 2 other players, me, you, and her make it 5. The escortee and the other guy. I got some confused gennin nearby asking me 'why are we here?' They're my business. You and the other guy just need to keep the escortee alive. Clear?" The child asked, looking up at his senior. Working with high rollers in the ninja world was very exciting.

The other guy was Kirin. A staple in most escorts around those parts. Kirin was what was most considered to be an S rank flunkee. He'd never graduated or gone through any sort of formal training to achieve his rank. His style was unpredictable and Toya could never keep up with that tier of speed to make out what it really was. He appeared together with the important player, Paul Fibb. Financial advisor to one of Sunagakure's council. His beige suit, meant to hide the constant stain of sand from the desert, made him stand out slightly from the common people outside of the walls of suna. Castellano Wingtips at his feet, hands as smooth as they could get, and the brain of a Henrin, Paul was living life on the edge like it was nothing.

In Pauls right hand there was something odd-looking. He was talking to it and had it pressed up against his ear. "Listen, no, no. You're not listening." He spoke to his hand while ordering something at the diner's counter. The player squad had been ignored. "I don't know where the fuck they are. Oh found 'em gotta go." Paul hid whatever device he was using into one of his pockets and made his way towards the group sitting together. "What up my fellow compadres!" Instead of shaking their hands or bowing, the man threw up a peace sign.
"We makin' some money or what?" He asked with enthusiasm.

As Airon & Hibana waited for their client to arrive a small boy walked up to them. Airon didn't feel like dealing with kids right now and was going to shoo him away before the boy revealed he WAS the client who arranged this escort mission. Hibana looked to Airon with a confused look on her face, he shot back a slight shrug. . "You, me, her, mission. Clear?" Airon nodded. "Clear." We got 2 other players, me, you, and her make it 5. The escortee and the other guy. I got some confused gennin nearby asking me 'why are we here?' They're my business. You and the other guy just need to keep the escortee alive. Clear?" Airon nodded again, beginning to show some annoyance. "Clear."

As the boy finished his little rant another two joined the fray. Airon thought he recognized the first man, a regular for missions like this. 'Kiri? No...Kirin I think.' He thought to himself. Followed behind him was someone who HAD to have been his client. The guy was practically screaming "I am a corrupt official." He wore a suit and had that sort of I am important air about him. He was chatting on a strange device and talking entirely too loud for a small restaurant. Airon didn't really like people who attracted so much attention to themselves, but ryo is ryo. After "Pauls" introduction Airon would simply respond back "Ryo is why I'm here." There was an awkward silence for a moment. "So, what kind of trouble are you expecting on this escort?"

Paul received his order from a young waitress as he presented the operation to the shinobi. A couple of pancakes and some coffee with cream. While shaking some sugar, that came out of his breast pocket, Paul laid bare the intricacies of what they all were about to embark on.

"We're going into a small confined, heavily populated civilian area. No flashy jutsu, no boom, let's keep that shit to a minimum." Paul started as his hands deftly began digging into his pancakes. "Oh, but what if they go batshit and blah blah blah. Trust me they won't. This place is under the thumb of suna and they don't want attention just as much as we don't either." Paul's eyes almost wept as he bit into the delicious pancakes. "So let's work with taijutsu and genjutsu. Last time you people ripped the fabric of reality in half!" Paul looked over to Toya and Kirin who were at the event of reference. "That was the dopest shit I've ever SEEN, BUT let's not make it a frequent thing hehe." Toya observed the group from his corner. His young, absent gaze was seemingly nowhere. Paul would continue the explanation in between pancake bites. "We head over to XO nightclub. Pablo Easy Lips is starting some shit in what I like to call a bullshit neutral zone. We gotta show this new blood he ain't steppin' on Fibb." Paul had forgotten about his food and was taken aback by either cynical representation of rage or actual anger. He pointed a greasy fork at Kirin and continued. "Kirin. Seen you in action. Loved it. Played it a lil loose last time with the tragic backstory pre-kill. I mean I LOVED the story, but I got you all on the clock am I right? Hahaha." The fork would move over to Airon and his friend. "What cool shit do you two do?" He asked while the cogs in his brain tried to make out their profile. He couldn't put his finger on it, but he felt something 'rare' about the girl. Something 'premium'.

Toya raised his hand and looked Paul dead in the eyes. Paul looked at everyone else in mild confusion. "Got a question kid?" He asked slightly annoyed. The conversation slowed down his eating. "The rulebook states-" Toya was interrupted by Paul before he could finish. "Don't care we're goin' off the books today boys. Let's make some money!" He announced before returning to his pancakes.

As this "Paul" began to talk about the mission, Airon listened intently. "No ninjutsu and keep things to minimum, got it." This of course wouldn't be a problem for someone like Airon. Ninjutsu wasn't exactly his preferred method of engaging opponents. And while he certainly could of the situation called for it, he preferred taijutsu. Not to mention, Airon prefers to keep a low profile. Though, after killing one of the crime bosses earlier in the week and all but admitting he was immortal, there might already be folks looking out for him. He hadn't told Hibana yet about his run in with his old boss, he didn't want to worry her after all. For now, they would just keep a low profile and get this escort done and over with, he would handle telling Hibana about their soon to be problems later. Shit...there's almost a better chance of him getting attacked before this Paul guy.

Paul began to talk about some other job they worked on in the past. Airon only half heard what he talked about as he was zoning in and out of the conversation thinking of his own problems. Suddenly he snapped back to reality when asked about what he was capable of. Neither one of them could fully admit the truth, so they decided to say partial truths. Airon shifted uneasily at the booth before replying, "Taijutsu user, I don't carry this sword for show." He would spit out while pointing to his sword Alheri on his back. It was a fine weapon, two swords able to combine to create a blunt axe-like hammer. Airon nodded towards his blue haired companion. "My partner here is a medic, with some training in Suiton & Fuuton." He wouldn't admit that she also could used Hyouton ice based ninjutsu. That would out her as an Aisu, and in a place like the Land of Wind, could put a bounty on her head just for existing. For now, they would hide that little fact unless it was absolutely needed to disclose.

He returned his attention towards Paul. "So, do we have somewhere to be, or are you paying me to watch you eat pancakes? I'm not complaining of course, if that's what you want to do..."

Toya looked at Airon’s companion like a lost child. He was trying to deduce what Paul considered unique about her. The boy felt lost in the narrative. Perhaps it was some adult sensory gift that developed later on. Or perhaps Paul was being flirtatious and regarded her body as the unique factor. Either way, it stumped him.

Paul, on the other hand, was struck by delight over the splendid pancakes he’d ordered. “Hey, don’t wanna sound like a ninja dork, but ain’t that bukijutsu?” He’d bump Kirin on the shoulder, giggling at his own retort to Airon’s jab. “Oooh, medic, how proactive. Y’know sweety- “Paul would lean in, keeping a safe distance from her just in case. “Most rogues don’t really like going for support. They wanna walk around with a big ol’ sword and kill all sentience. Haha! But hey, I respect all choices.” He’d dig into his pancakes in between monologues. He quickly sipped some coffee as Airon rushed him. “Yeah, let’s go. You think they’d doggy bag this?” He asked, pointing down at the pancake massacre. Kirin, who at that point had been a silent observer, slammed the table in irritation and lifted Paul up to get things moving. The orders now came from him. “Toya, go to the gennin and do your job. You two come with me and Paul to get this show on the road. “Alright, alright.” Paul passively protested. Toya, on his end, got up and simply left without saying a word. His mission was another entirely.

XO Club was a money laundering scheme devised by two brilliant Henrin. Two men with the intellect of Da Vinci, Einstein and Newton put together. The twins created the most profitable system in the world and avoided most, if not all, legal troubles due to that fact. They were Iki and Oto of the Henrin Clan. Upon arrival, the party would undergo a process unique to certain individuals. Shinobis were a big problem for business when they got too tipsy. This needed a solution and that came in several shades within XO. Individuals who knew jutsu theory and could manipulate chakra at any level went through a room of thick white fog. This fog, inhaled or not, would dampen the power of most shinobi to a reasonable degree. It proved ineffective for physical jutsu such as taijutsu, but for that, the brothers equipped security with state-of-the-art weapons to immobilize trouble makers. How they knew who was a civilian or not was a mystery. This all kept most idiots with power at bay, but the truth was, no one wanted to stir beef with the brothers. They could make you rich, handsome, smart, happy and very much dead. Whatever your heart desired. They just had to see your worth. Their manipulation of those around them transcended chakra and ninja. The two were worshipped.

The moment Paul, Kirin, Airon and his companion approached the entrance, a bouncer would escort them to the ‘shinobi entrance’ to dampen their chakra. This time, however, the bouncer took Paul to an area he’d never seen before. The man wouldn’t vocalize his suspicion, but Kirin could sense fear in his pathetic contractor. They were all brought to stairs that lead down. It still maintained the club aesthetic, so Paul tried to keep his cool. The flight of stairs would last for about 10 minutes until they reached what appeared to be an opera house.

Meanwhile Toya was listening to his fellow gennin introduce themselves and explain why they wanted to become ninja.

Of all the places Airon ever thought he'd visit twice in this village, the line to another nightclub was not one of them. The Jashinist was not exactly a social person, but a job was a job. It was certain to be a memorable night, especially with the mysterious Paul and his shinobi companion. Not to mention, the infamous "twins" that ran the underworld of Daiura through this club. Airon was curious about all of this. He had sensed something behind the man's flamboyance and sought to observe him and the kid a bit more.

The outer entrance of XO is a glorious white wooden metal door. The walls are a perfect display of masonry with basic red bricks, and white gated windows to prevent any and all attempts of forced entry. During the day the face of the building glows in the sun, drawing attention to it with natural lights. During the nighttime the light system glows shines light with a slow color change only noticeable to those who stare at it for hours. The stairs up to the front door of XO are made from a mix of stone for the steps and metal for the railings. The building is a favorite for locals, which why it is always guarded with two ninja, one bouncer, and constantly guarded by having the guard post built into the gatehouse.

Airon watched several men ahead of him get turned away by the stocky bouncers, men whose size allowed them to intimidate the average villager. Airon & Hibana, however, were anything but average; he towered over the guard, who had to crane his neck to look into Airons' impatient eyes.. No words were exchanged, and the velvet rope separating the group from the entrance quickly parted ways and they were escorted to a “Shinobi Entrance.” The way it was explained to him, this entrance would severely hamper chakra. This wouldn’t be ideal for Hibana who relied on chakra usage for her ijutsu & ninjutsu techniques. However, she said she’s been training a bit recently on her taijutsu. Hopefully it wouldn’t come to her needing to use it. Worst case scenario, Airon would be more than able to handle any trouble they would run into with his kenjutsu.

Upon entry, Airon did not know what to make of the club's interior at first glance. Decadent, that much was obvious, but Airon did not find himself intoxicated by the extravagance as some of the locals who visited these places. Wealth did not excite him like it did others, especially knowing that in a place like this is was, for the most part, a facade. It did however represent an escape of life's often harsh realities, but only along the surface. These men and women would have to return to their middling statures in a few hours, and no amount of alcohol or dancing could alter that inevitability.

As they moved through the staircase, they would be led to what appeared to be some sort of opera house. Airon took note of Paul’s change in demeanor. There was a fear in the man’s eyes, something that put Airon on guard. He spaced himself out and gave Hibana a look to do the same, in case there was going to be an attack, making sure they were on alert and would have room to maneuver.

They structured the opera house like a typical proscenium theatre. Seats arched around the main stage in their dark red fabric. Private rooms above them, with perfect views of the stage. Yet it was all empty. The only people there to witness it all were the crew and the bouncer. Suddenly, the lights would dim and the stage curtains would open quickly, revealing two dancers. They dressed one all in white, a woman, to be exact. Her outfit resembled that of a ballet dancer, while the other actor, a male, wore all black. His face, painted to resemble a skull. They danced to a somber song together just before the bouncer instructed the crew to sit. Paul at that point was looking at everyone with a face that meant, “what the actual fuck is happening?” Paul talked a great deal, but his world was completely detached from violence and bloodshed. He was ambitious, but this could not change the fundamental nature of who he was. A coward. He leaned over to Kirin and whispered, panicked, “I have no fucking clue what the hell we’re in!” He looked over at Airon and Hibana, and then back at Kirin. “We’re completely off the rails at this point!” The dance continued until a voice interwove itself to the background music. It was soft and measured. “She was beautiful and translucent. Yet no man or woman could have her for touching her caused her to die. The warm embrace of love did nothing for her except bring her closer to the end. How curious, no?” A fake snow fell over the dancers as the voice continued, “She was snow, destined to be alone in the cold, bleak winter.” The music stopped, the dancers dropped and the lights came back on. A man walked into stage alone with attire that would suit a business manager instead of a director. He kneeled down before the two and embraced them before stabbing both in the heart. Their deaths, real and not staged, made the man weep. Speakers echoed his voice once again. “She could only love death. His embrace was the only thing that couldn’t harm her.” He stood up, stained in crimson and turned around to face the crew. “Greetings.” He announced with an expression that could only be described as utter indifference. The man took his time to walk over to the crew and, once he did, he sized every member up.

“Mr.Fibb, I apologize for this unorthodox meeting. I understand you’ve come here to discuss recent discrepancies within our organization. The recent blood letting within our city has been disastrous for both business and... Well, I can’t quite think of anything worse than that.” He smiled, indicating he found his comment amusing. At that point, Paul was sweating. Kirin eyed the bloody man intently, ready to make a move. He assumed Airon and Hibana would move as well. The suited man’s gaze switched over to Airon and Hibana, his smile gone. “Did you two enjoy the dance? We’re still working out the kinks, of course.”

A couple of minutes away, Toya found himself in a pickle. The ‘good Samaritan’ in the squad was sensing something odd in the entire operation. They’d been sent to the wrong place at the wrong time. Something was up and he was going to get to the bottom of it. The other squad member was more or less content with being fed by Toya and didn’t mind the entire ordeal. “Maybe this is a test! Maybe we’re meant to help these people somehow. Like a virtuous scavenger hunt! Y’know?!” The boy was enthusiastic now and Toya feared he wouldn’t be able to keep him waiting for much longer.
