I Love Rain Country!

Suzuki hated rain country.

It was so depressing. She had somehow ended up in the ruins of one of the old villages, and it was definitely getting to her. As she walked along, the rain pittered on the ground around her. The soft sound of rain hitting metal filled her ears as she walked alongside the immense skeletal structure of a once great building. It's brick skin had fallen away from it's internal shape, revealing a simple skeleton, how very depressing, She held her hood tight to her face, keeping the rain out her hair. She saw the lights on a building far off, though. It seemed the people that were trying to stay where they had grown had managed to reconstruct a few smaller buildings on the edge of the town. Surely she could find a place of refuge for the night. Picking up her pace, Suzuki made her way to the closest building.

The light rain was a relief from the heavy storms that had plagued the small village for the past week. Fusae wandered near the outskirts of the village, her eyes flickering to the ruins that surrounded it. She had never paid much notice to them; they were just part of the land's overall scenery. With a small sigh, the kunoichi lowered her umbrella and began to close it since the rain was lifting some.

That's when she noticed someone entering the village from the west. She narrowed her eyes a bit; though she herself was not a native to the village, Fusae had grown to be a bit wary of newcomers. Being a missing ninja, she was even more cautious than the other villagers.

At first, Fusae ignored the small figure as it approached. However, when she saw the person - oh, it was a girl - approach her ochaya, her attitude completely changed; now it was a customer. Fusae entered the building before the girl, giving her umbrella to a server at the door.

Putting on her friendliest, most insincere smile, Fusae bowed at the young girl. "Welcome, welcome," she said. "Care for a bit of tea?"

Suzuki smiled as she became a witness to life. Not only life, but a girl. Suzuki was always relieved to see girls over guys. Men so often tried to hurt her. Except Ayuma-san. He never did. As she entered the building, however, the woman who she thought was a friend turned out to be an employee. "Oh...I'm sorry. I don't have any money...I was ust wanting to take a brief rest before continuing on...", she felt bad now, resting the large sword against her shoulder. Should she leave?

Her smile faltered. It wasn't in the tea house's best interest to allow freeloaders, and it wasn't something Fusae normally allowed. Not only that, but the girl carried a huge sword with her, which indicated she wasn't an ordinary civilian traveler.

The servant girl next to her gazed up at Fusae as if she expected her to let the freeloader inside. After a seemingly long pause, her smile returned, though it was a bit strained. "We don't have lodgings, really but I suppose I can give you a futon." Without another word, Fusae turned towards the east wing of the tea house, leading her to one of the smaller rooms.

Suzuki hesitated, "Oh...oh no. I didn't mean for the night. Just a few hours. To dry off and rest my legs...I wouldn't expect lodging without pay.", she said as she followed Fusae. No, no. She wouldn't stay, it'd take her longer to get to Ayuma. And she'd be taking advantage of these people. Her face turned deep red in embarassment. What a misunderstanding!

"Thank you...really. But that's not what I meant. I'm sorry.", she looked like she was on the verge of tears. What a sensitive girl.

Fusae blinked, her expression remaining blank. Tears rarely moved her since she wasn't the most empathic person. However, she didn't want a little girl bawling all over the place and disrupt the customers in adjacent rooms. "Don't apologize, it's fine. Uh. Hinori." The servant that followed them to the room nodded her head. "Bring her some tea. Lower stock."

As Hinori shuffled away, Fusae turned back to the girl. Though she carried an enormous sword with her, the girl didn't seem to be remarkably tough. "So where are you from? We don't get travelers too often around here."

Suzuki blinked, realizing how silly she was being, "Sorry...", she muttered. The sword on her shoulder shifted. She really needed to get a sheath or something for it. Leaning the blade against her neck, the girl frowned. "Thank you..", was all she could get out as Hinori was dismissed to fetch them tea. She really didn't want anything free, her papa would be so disappointed.

"Uhm..Tea Country...I guess. It's been a long time since I've gone back there...they still think I'm dead I hear...", she let off a soft sigh, thinking of her parents. "I don't really have a home. And I've been short on work lately, so I'm all out of money...", she shrugged. "That's how it is though. Everyone's got to work.", it was clear Suzuki had some work ethic in her, and she really did want anything free. That's just not how she was raised.

"I'm Red, by the way. Thank you for your kindness. It's a pleasure to meet you.", she bowed all the way, causing the sword to be straight up, showing it true size to Fusae....it was big.

"You guess?" Fusae said skeptically. The girl was a bit odd in the kunoichi's eyes. She was almost puny, but was able to carry around such a huge sword. Not only that, but if she was from Tea, then she wasn't even a shinobi. 'Odd'

"Even if it's not your 'home,' everyone is from somewhere." Instead of returning the girl's bow, Fusae sat in front of a low, traditionally made table, folding her legs under her. As she sat down, she couldn't help but notice just how massive the sword actually was. "Pleasure to meet you, too. I'm Kasumi."

Just as she introduced herself, Hinori returned with two steaming cups of tea. She placed the tea on the table and silently left the room. Fusae was interest to know why people thought the girl was dead, but she was afraid the young girl would start crying again. Instead of asking, Fusae said, "Well, if you are short on money, the tea is free of charge. I suppose it's the welcoming thing to do."

Suzuki frowned as the woman questioned her, "It's been a long time..", she said as the nostalgia swept through her head. Her eyes were practically reflective as she blanked up for a moment before returning to the conversation and mimicking "Kasumi" taking a seat across from her.

"I guess they are. Not everyone has a place to call home though.", Suzuki said. She practically choked on her words as she said them, holding back the tears and quickly sipping the tea that was presented to her. "Its a pleasure to meet you, Kasumi-san. I'm thankful, really. But I can't take this for free.", she reached into the pouch, revealing a bill and two small coins. "It's not enough to pay for the tea, I'm sure...but it's something....please.", it was like she was almost begging Fusae to take the money.

"I was raised better. Papa would be disappointed in me if I took this tea for free.", she said, losing track of her words, saying something she probably wouldn't say to anyone.

Fusae shrugged, reaching out her hand to take the money. "If you insist. But, really, I can afford to give out a simple cup of tea, I suppose." She stuffed the money in a pocket within her robes, then folded her hands in front of her face. Normally Fusae tried to get to know the people who seemed to be shinobi that walked into her tea shop. However, this Suzuki girl was a bit timid, and she wasn't from any important village. It was very doubtful that she would have run across Kotarou.

"Well, it seems like you were raised well, at least. I've only been to Tea Country a handful of times. Seems like a nice place, I guess." 'But it's too close to Konoha,' Fusae thought. The kunoichi wasn't too interested in wandering too close to her old home. "I've found that home is wherever you want it to be. I don't have a home, either, but this place is a decent substitute."

Suzuki smiled when Fusae took the money, nodding at her thankfully. "Thank you..really.", she smiled and glanced down at the tea, sipping it at this point. "I guess that's true. It's hard to find a place to settle down, though...Kontentou seem to have plans though....that'll be nice...", she got distracted a little, thinking about how nice it'll be not to be wandering all the time once Kontentou establishes himself, and them. Now that she was a part of his group.

"Are you not from Rain Country, Kasumi-san?", Suzuki asked finally taking in what she had sad. This wasn't her true home? Then where was?

Fusae's throat tightened. She hadn't been thinking when she spoke; she hadn't even considered that the girl might inquire where she was from. And why wouldn't she? Fusae had already asked where the other girl was from.

Her hesitation was noticeable, as she had no idea what to say. Even though Suzuki said she was from Tea Country, there was still a certain danger in telling a complete stranger that she was from Konoha. "Well, uh, no. I'm originally from Fire Country, but I left for ah...personal reasons."

Oh. She was from close to home. Suzuki smiled, this girl definitely had some problems concerning home. Trying to deviate from the topic, she looked around the room, spreading her arms out (as they were no longer limited by the sword, since it was leaning against the chair)

"So do you own this place? Or...", she left the sentence hanging, not sure what else it could be, like if she was a servant? "It's very nice. Good way to escape the rain.", Suzuki's voice was cheery now. She certainly didn't want her kind host to be upset over something. Not after how welcoming she had been.

Fusae smiled, thinking about how she had come across the tea house in the first place. "I wouldn't say I own it, but I run it and what not. I didn't build it or anything. I suppose you can say I inherited when the owner died." When she thought of this, Fusae's smile wavered. She was worried someone would find out what truly happened to Nitta. "It was pretty unfortunate. Nitta didn't name an heir, so we didn't know what to do. Even though I was new here, everyone thought I should take over. So, I did. Thanks, it's a lovely place. We just finished redecorating."

Fusae sipped her tea briefly, clutching it tightly to warm her hands. "Is there anywhere in particular you're headed? There's not much in the direction you were traveling."

Suzuki smiled at the story, no wonder Kasumi got the place, she was a very pretty young woman, and she seemed nice enough. "You're probably one of those people that can just win people over, Mama was like that. People were always giving her stuff and talking good about her. Even when she made mistakes people were happy for her. You're nice, and pretty, Kasumi. That's probably why.", she looked Fusae in the eye and smiled lightly.

"I'm not sure. I'm supposed to be meeting Ayuma-sama to tell him about Kontentou-san and his plans, but I'm having a hard time tracking him down. Just wandering and meeting up with people who might have seen him. You know how hard it is in this world, meeting up with people that are constantly moving.", she frowned. It was clear that Kasumi had spent some time traveling too.

"I don't think I was supposed to be in Rain Country...I was just walking and kind of lost track of myself. I'm not sure where I'm heading now...", she admitted, embarrassed.

Fusae nodded, though she wasn't at all familiar with the names Suzuki mentioned. "I hardly ever go looking for people. Really, they tend to find me. It's scary, even...." As she talked, Fusae rose to her feet to close the window behind her. Thunder reverberated in the distance and dark clouds rolled within an even darker sky; a bad storm was heading in their direction.

"Rain Country borders a ton of other countries. Six, I think. If you keep north, you'll hit Grass Country in less than a day." After gazing at the approaching storm for a while longer, Fusae finally shut the window. "Are you sure you want to travel? There's no way you'll avoid such a huge storm."

Suzuki pushed down her brow as she thought about her location geographically. "North? I think you're right. Ayuma was in waterfall last I heard...", she said with sudden realization. Glancing out the window, she shrugged. She didn't really have a choice in the matter. She'd wait out the stronger half of the storm, then head out when it calmed, that'd certainly be fine.

"No...I'll head out after a bit. It's just a storm, shouldn't last too long.", Suzuki was clearly unfamiliar with Rain Country. "I'd hate to be a nuisance to your staff...I can leave now if it's necessary.", she did not want to be a burden.

"No, it's fine," Fusae said, crossing her arms as she stared blatantly at the younger girl. Travelers usually weren't aware of the dangers of traversing Rain Country, especially in the dark during a storm; they typically didn't know how prone the country was to flash floods. It was the very reason nearly all of the villages were built on high ground. If the girl traveled in that weather at night, she might wander into a flood zone and realize it too late.

'Odd. I don't even know why I care.'

"It's still dangerous to travel this country, especially during a heavy storm and not knowing where you're going. Getting swept away in a flash flood is surprisingly easy to do here." As she spoke, Fusae's eyes drifted back to the huge sword leaning against a chair. She didn't say anything about it, but it was obvious that she was interested in the weapon.

Suzuki blushed a little, a soft smile on her face. "I didn't realize..well. Thank you for your concern. If theres anything I can do to earn my keep, I'd be more than happy to do so.", she insisted. It was clear Suzuki would not go through this without doing something to help the stranger before her.

Her soft smile turned into a bit of a grin, however, when she noticed the woman looking at her sword. "It was my grandfathers...", she said nostalgically. Hopefully Fusae would say whatever was on her mind if Suzuki opened the conversation.

"You're not a nuisance. I've dealt with worse." Slightly disappointed at the skimpy explanation, Fusae took a few steps forward towards the sword. She wasn't so rude to pick it up without permission, but she wasn't even sure if she could. The thing looked heavy, and the kunoichi wasn't the strongest person out there.

"Didn't think Tea Country had stuff like this," Fusae mumbled beneath her breath. Fusae's gaze flickered to Suzuki curiously, again thinking that this was no ordinary girl. "If you're from Tea, you must not be a shinobi or anything then. So why do you have this?"

Suzuki smiled lightly, taking it as a compliment. She was glad she wasn't bothering Kasumi. Looking at her while she inspected the sword, Suzuki couldn't help but admire her features. She was a gorgeous young woman, really, she couldn't help but be a little jealous. Her eyes were gorgeous, too, that purple color was something she had never seen before. Kasumi finally said something and Suzuki jolted to attention.

"I don't think grandpa got it from Tea Country....he used to tell a lot of stories of wild adventures. He might have gotten it on one of those.", thinking about her grandfather was clearly having an impact on Suzuki as her smile temporarily faltered.

"They were all killed. Papa, Momma, Grandpa and Grandma. I took the sword when I was running...", well, that was why she had it. "It's kept me safe for 7 years now. It's the best present I've ever gotten.", she said smiling again. It seemed that thinking in that light gave her a little reassurance.

The kunoichi glanced at Suzuki, a little uncomfortable by the story. She couldn't exactly say she understood what the other girl went through; the only real loss was that of her brother, and Fusae was convinced he was still alive somewhere. "I'm sorry," she finally said, managing to sound sympathetic. Fusae noticed that Suzuki didn't seem to enjoy recounting her tale, but at the moment, she didn't care too much. She found it all fascinating.

"So you're still running. I'm not going to ask from what, but that's a bit sad. I'm impressed though. Not many people can survive that long out here on their own, especially when they're as young as you."

Suzuki jumped onto the defensive, "I'm not running!", she said quicker than she realized. Blushing, she sank into her chair. "I just don't want to be there....and I don't have anywhere to go...", she frowned again. "Kontentou-san had plans though...", she trailed off, realizing she still hadn't found Ayuma.

Returning to the point, she hesitated, very embarrassed by what had just happened. "A lot of luck has kept me alive. Meeting the right people at the right time to teach me the right things, I guess.", she tried to force a smile at this point, her face still a deep red color.

Fusae's eyes widened at Suzuki's outburst, then narrowed at the way she suddenly calmed down. "I didn't mean to hit a nerve," she said, cocking her head with interest. "You're not tied to any one place. You can go anywhere. That's the beauty of this life.

"Also, don't force a smile. If you're angry or upset, be angry or upset." She rose to her feet, picking up the tea set in the process. Fusae glided to the door and placed the tea set down in front of it before turning back to Suzuki. "What are these 'right things,' if you don't mind me asking?"

Suzuki nodded understanding what Kasumi was saying, "Yes, you're right Kasumi-san. It is nice, not having to be bound to one place. But...don't you wish you had a place to settle down sometimes?", she paused, "I guess you've got that huh?" she said referencing to the shop they were in.

She followed Fusae with her eyes, and shrugged, "Things about this world, techniques, abilities.", Ayuma had taught her jutsu, Yaksha had taught her a little about ninjutsu, and that old woman about Kumo. All those things had set her in the right pace. Luck had always been on her side.

"This place is temporary and disposable," Fusae said with a shrug. "I've become attached to it, but not so much that I wouldn't leave it." As she spoke, the door opened slightly, and a small hand grabbed the tea set. The door then closed, and Fusae pretended she didn't notice it happening. "Settling down isn't for everyone."

"Well, I guess since you're being so vague, these 'abilities' are a secret, ne?" Fusae was nearly dying to know just what exactly Suzuki knew. After all, if she was going to Waterfall, which was crawling with missing nin, it couldn't have been anything good. But she wouldn't force the girl to talk. Her eyes flickered to the sword again.

Suddenly, Fusae felt naked. She rarely kept any weapons on her while working at the tea house, and she became uncomfortably aware of that fact.

Suzuki frowned, "That's a bit harsh, don't you think?", she inquired. She was sure Kasumi cared about this place more than she let on. How could you inherit a shop like this and not fall in love with it? Suzuki would love being able to call this home. "I guess you're just a wandering spirit, and I'm longing for a home.", she said with a shurg, "Everyone's different, huh?", she smiled. Suzuki definitely liked Kasumi.

"No..it's not a big secret. Ayuma-san has taught me the most. I guess they were the jutsu they teach in the academy for normal ninja? Basic jutsu he called them? And that snake-man taught me about ninjutsu a little. Just....skills. Things that have kept me alive since learning them.", she said with an affirmative nod.

"I don't have the motivation to settle down. I still have things to do, I guess." Fusae sat down again, trying not to reflect on her family, when Suzuki said something that made her blood boil.

"Snake man, you say." A growl rumbled in Fusae's chest. She didn't have to bother asking who this 'snake man was. She would never understand how Yaksha seemed to know everyone, or why he was seemingly luring everyone not affiliated with a village into his den. "Unbelievable. He just never quits."

Fusae was still unfamiliar with the name Ayuma, but that didn't bother her nearly as much as knowing Yaksha had this young girl in his grasp, or was trying to. Though they could be considered friends, her relationship with Yaksha was odd at best, and in some ways, one-sided. "Be wary of snakes, Suzuki. They are the downfall of men."

Suzuki looked at her curiously, what else did Kasumi have to do? Deciding not to press the issue, she was taken aback as the woman literally growled at her. Had Suzuki done something? She frowned, until Kasumi explained. "He was a creep.", she said uneasily.

"I didn't really want to train with him. But I suppose he insisted, and I'm bad at saying no. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you, Kasumi-san.", Suzuki certainly preferred Kasumi over the snake man.

Red hadn't done anything wrong. Fusae was only angered by the fact that Yaksha already had a hold over the other girl. She knew all too well how much the man enjoyed manipulating people, and she all but despised the way he did it. It was, in fact, one of the reasons she no longer did so herself.

She would have laughed when the other girl called Yaksha a creep. Fusae uneasy around the man more often than not, and it should have amused her that others felt the same. However, she was much too irritated to find any humor in the situation. How often did they speak to one another? What sort of plan did Yaksha have for the innocent girl? Just thinking about what he had in store for the girl angered her.

"I'm not offended by anything you did. Just be careful around that man. Getting involved with missing ninja doesn't usually turn out well." Only after Fusae said this did she see the hypocrisy in her words. After all, she was a missing ninja herself.

Taking a chance, Fusae added, "Some of us don't have the best intentions. We can't all be trusted."

Suzuki nodded with understanding, "If I can be honest with you, I had no intention of meeting up with him again. I'm not a fan of his...he gives me the creeps.", she giggled a little saying this. It had been a while since Suzuki had had some real girl time, gossiping with someone. Always being on the run and hiding from people had made procuring friends and maintaining a relationship with any she managed to make difficult.

"Is there something he did to hurt you...?", she asked, hoping she wasn't pushing anything, "You seem really adverse to him...", she admitted cautiously. Fidgeting uncomfortably, Suzuki suddenly felt out of her element.

She didn't realized she was so tense until after Red spoke and she felt her body relax. Red didn't seem to have caught on that Fusae used the word "we" when discussing dangerous missing ninja. She had taken a chance, but it may have gone over Red's head. After a brief pause, "No, actually. He knows better than to hurt me. Or rather, he wouldn't. I simply don't like the way he goes about doing things."

Fusae normally didn't badmouth the people she knew. Never much of a gossiper, she often kept these sort of thoughts to herself. However, the seemingly innocent girl before her somehow had her opening up. "I consider him a friend in the loosest meaning of the word. He's...manipulative in nearly every way. I've just recently decided that I'm not okay with that. I don't like being lied to." There was a frigid fierceness in her tone that surprised her; she hadn't sounded so sharp in a while.

A look of confusion crossed over Suzuki's face, why didn't that man want to mess with Kasumi, did she have some secret hidden from him? No..that didn't make sense. Perhaps Kasumi was stronger than most others? Maybe she was some sort of elite ninja? She was certainly too young for that. The look eventually faded as Fusae stopped talking and Suzuki again nodded in understanding.

"I can agree with that. This world can be so deceptive.", Suzuki learned that the hard way. Placing the sword down against the table next to her, Suzuki sighed before looking back at Kasumi, "How long should I expect this storm?", she didn't want to linger on this topic, but without anything else to talk about, she returned to her departure, wanting to take up as little of Kasumi's time and space as possible.

"A couple hours, I would imagine. Maybe less. The point is to not walk out there in the dark and run into a flooded ravine or something." Fusae pulled herself to her feet, wiping off her kimono as she walked towards the door. "Be right back."

Fusae walked through the tea house towards the kitchens, her expression grave. Though she had just met Red, she could tell that the girl had an innocent spirit. For some reason, Fusae seethed at thinking something - or someone - might taint that. The woman rummaged through the kitchen, mumbling greetings to anyone she passed. After a while, she returned back to Red's room with a wrapped bundle. She set it down on the table next to the girl's sword.

"Take that with you. Rain Country isn't really known for its abundance of wild things to eat." Fusae crossed her arms within her sleeves, giving Red a thoughtful look. "Come back sometime. If I'm still here, we could chat more."

Suzuki frowned. A few hours? That'd slow everything down! She was already struggling enough to find Ayuma, a storm to disorient any sort of direction she had would not help. She motioned to say something, but Kasumi quickly excused herself and vanished through the door. In her absence, Suzuki quickly rummaged through her sash pockets, searching for some sort of coinage to show some sort of thanks from Kasumi, just for the time.

Unfortunately, she turned up nothing, and Fusae was back. Suddenly, she was offering more stuff. Suzuki turned a deep red, totally embarassed. How disappointed Papa would be. She couldn't say no, though, this would certainly help her on the trip. Laying the sword against her shoulder, she tucked the bundle under her other arm and did a very steep bow towards Kasumi. "Thank you......very much. I'll stay safe in town until this blows over. I'll be sure to visit you again...thanks again.", Suzuki said with a faint smile, unsure of what else needed to be said.

And with that, she made her exit, slipping through the door they came in through and vanishing into the rain as she exited the building.
