[Plotboard] A Warm-Up Contract

Post by Fake » Thu Jun 14, 2018 2:47 pm

Although Yato had taken a liking to sending messengers to his attendants, it seemed that Sji was keen on sticking with Yato wherever he went. He supposed that it was only safe for Sji to do so, so he shrugged at the thought and complied without any questions.

The two were out in what seemed to be the middle of nowhere: a small town without a name, only housing 5 or 6 buildings that seemed to be run down at best. They were waiting near the center of the town for a particular mobster who went by the name Genzo; although Yato wasn't enthusiastic about taking on small contracts from low-profile criminals, he wanted to see what exactly Sji was capable of, and whether or not the red-eyed boy was ready to take on real jobs. This would be less for the purpose of gathering resources and more of a test for Sji--one that had room for failure, at that.

Yato himself stood in place as a form of insurance, in case they were to get backstabbed. His paranoia wasn't unjustified, though, as there were many cases in which people who hired him tried to get a quick one-up on him and kill him so they wouldn't have to pay the rather high price that came with hiring shinobi.

The town was dusty, hot, and dry, and the sun above them was uninhibited by the cover of clouds, relentlessly evaporating the little moisture the ground had left. Every step that one would take in the small town would raise a cloud of dust behind them. Even worse was the fact that the well at the center of the town was dry; Yato understood that it was important to meet discreetly, but even a tacky old bar would have been better than a run-down ghost town.

"He's late..." He muttered to himself as he stared up at the sky using a hand as his visor. Yato usually wasn't one to punish people for a lack of punctuality, but he was irritated at the fact that Genzo had called the two of them there without being there first. He gritted his teeth as he lowered his hand and stared at the light-brown dirt that caked the ground beneath his feet. The sun was getting to him--to the point that he was considering calling the whole thing off and just going for Genzo's head out of spite. He kicked the dirt in front of him in frustration, letting a large cloud of dust grow.

It was then that Genzo showed up: he was a small, bald man sporting dark shades that covered his eyes completely. Dressed in a spiffy little suit, his appearance resembled that of a casino worker more than a mobster. To his sides were two hefty-looking topless men who slung clubs and axes over their shoulders--barbarians, Yato figured. He cocked his head as he stared spitefully at the three men approaching him and Sji.

[Plotboard] A Warm-Up Contract

Upon arriving at the dead town Sji had walked the entire circumference of the town, keeping an eye out for any signs of life on the horizon Yato had said they were meeting someone here after all. Sji came across a small skeleton likely one of the Town's former inhabitants claimed by the scorching heat out here, he poked it with a dried stick he had picked up on his circling, the skull and stick both crumbled to dust leaving Sji with a dumbfounded and disappointed expression on his face. The heat was the worst part about all of this, Sji had 'borrowed' a headscarf from a local town a few miles back and it had been a godsend but now he was acclimatising to it and the heat was starting to feel relentless.

Sji made his way back to Yato, it was well past time that their contact would meet with them. Sji was glad to be back to travelling with Yato and he had very little intention of letting him slip away once again, the first time was bad enough after all. Sji wondered how long this town had been here for as he walked it's dry streets the dust kicking up off the ground behind him as he trudged down the way. It was certainly not uncommon for places like this to fall into disrepair when they no longer held any benefit to maintaining, Sji was not concerned about how it fell more in it's history and the stories a place like this had to tell.

Both he and Yato held the same goal for freedom, if they were to create a land that truly claimed to be for free thinking folk then they would have to ensure that stories of even the smallest places would never be completely forgotten. This was much further in the future however, Yato had mentioned that he had recruited a few others also but there was plenty of work still to be done. Sji would let Yato worry about the details not because Sji was incapable of such things but because he chose to trust in Yato, that was the funny thing about freedom of choice you could give it away if you wanted to.

He arrived back to catch Yato muttering about the contact's lack of punctuality it was something that bothered Sji so much, there was plenty you could do to entertain yourself in the mean time but eventually that would dry up just like the town they were in. He propped himself up on the side of the well that they were to meet the employer by, the dead center of the town not something that Sji was fond of being in such an obvious and exposed position as this and the heat did not help this in the least bit. He swang his legs off the side of the wall and hummed in a soft manner, the act of the innocent child had been one that Sji had played for so long it was comfortable to fit into especially in moments like this. At last their employer decided to show up, Sji had to hold back all instinct to just kill the man there and then everything about him just said that this would be more trouble than it was worth.

"Yatty, look the Sun has come down to the ground to meet us." Sji whispered over to Yato before Genzo managed to come within earshot, the sun glaring of his bald head he was not dressed for the heat you could tell from the perspiration that he had not managed to wipe away with that fancy cloth tucked in his jacket's front pocket. Then Sji paid note to his escort, they certainly had muscle that was for sure he wondered if they had the speed to match it. He was not impressed in the least, if you were going to hire protection they needed to do more than just look the part after all.

"Feeding you guys must get expensive." Sji chuckled aloud this time to see if they would bite, he did hope they would Sji didn't intend on killing their prospective employer but Yato had never said anything about the bodyguards. Sji's head tilted to the side slightly his eyes held an intense focus in them like a vulture eyed a prospective corpse in it's last moments, all the bird would see was a meal not a creature struggling for survival. It was likely only Yato could sense the bloodlust that dripped from Sji soaking every fibre of his being, trailing across the ground reaching towards the hulking brutes that flanked Genzo.

Yato looked at Sji with a single squinted eye as he cocked his head, unable to quite understand what the boy was implying. "Hm..." He was inclined to ask about what exactly Sji had meant about 'the sun' and whatnot, but he figured it was just another cheeky joke and shrugged it off before turning to face the approaching mobsters.

The guards' expressions were appropriately affixed into a permanent grimace with wrinkled noses. Apparently, it was something that Genzo's mob did to appear intimidating, but to any functioning person they would appear to be mentally disabled, at best. Yato paid no heed to the two 'tough guys', and instead took to staring into the mobster's shades, piercing through them and seemingly making eye contact with the man. As Sji taunted the guards, they flinched ever so slightly towards the boy before Genzo raised his hand, to which they held back with veins bulging from their round foreheads. They growled in a low grungy tone at Sji, reluctantly complying to Genzo's order.

"You're late. Are you not going to respect my time?" Yato stared at Genzo with eyes of disdain, knowing all too well that he could kill the man at any point in time without any negative consequences. After all, this was only for Sji. Still, he held himself back as his fists clenched beneath his robe, out of sight from anybody around him.

Genzo frowned, and pointed a finger at Yato's face, only a few inches away from making contact. "Hey! I'm the one paying you. I make the demands here. Besides..." He growled as his neck jerked and he turned to face Sji. "The hell's up with this short lil' fucker? You trying to game me for my money? That what it is?" Genzo would inch towards Yato with a growl that slowly increased in volume; the man's temper was short, and he was lucky that Yato decided to be tame.

However, that wasn't to speak for what Sji might do. Yato smirked as his pupils darted over to Sji's to make eye contact, before he made a nod to the boy. If the mobster was going to underestimate Sji, then it was all too appropriate for Sji to have an opportunity to prove himself to the man in whatever way he desired. "Just don't kill him," Yato said with a quiet, confident tone.

At that, Genzo stumbled back a few feet as his arms rose in front of him and his expression screamed of anxiety. "W-what?! What the fuck did you just say, Yatter?!" At this point, the guards pulled their weapons off of their backs and poised themselves for combat.

"Tsk tsk... You mobsters never know when your incessant barking becomes annoying to the real predators, huh?" Yato wagged his finger at the man and leaned back against the well behind him with a cocky grin, ready to watch Sji do what he did best.

"You are too good to me Yatty." Sji had heard the magic words stepping forward he reached inside his jacket grabbing a smoke bomb from one of the quick draw pouches and throwing it in one fluid motion into the face of the thug on the right, hand seals were formed in perfect succession the pace showing the effort put into practising ninjutsu. A rushing of water was heard as Sji conjured a large amount of Suiton chakra in the shape of a oriental dragon, it hurtled towards the thug that had not had his vision obscured by smoke it grabbed him in it's jaws and then Sji flicked his wrist upwards the dragon followed in turn to drive the man upwards clenched in the maw of the dragon struggling against it with all his might. One more gesture and the dragon began it's descent to the ground with the same speed it had hit the thug with, there was a crunching sound as the man landed awkwardly on the point where his neck joined to the collar.

The other thug had recovered quicker than Sji had anticipated he made a swing for the young shinobi, he stepped back but the force of the attack blew a lot of air to his face. This brute could do the damage he was just so damn slow, it was a really sad state of affairs when bodyguards couldn't even do their job properly. Sji moved a kunai from the quick draw pouch planting it into the tendons between the shoulder and the arm, he drew another one sliding underneath the large man's legs planting it in the back of his right knee on the way past. Sji stood up and avoided yet another swing by ducking under it and stepping around the brutish giant's right side kicking the kunai he had placed earlier further in. The man dropped to one knee and Sji placed one more quick drawn kunai around the man's throat he bled a lot when Sji sliced him open, he stepped around to face the man who only had the look of confusion on his face as to how such a small child had beat him the blood from his throat spraying all over Sji.

The young nin grinned as he tapped the brute with his foot knocking him down with the lightest of taps, then his eyes went to Genzo an ear to ear grin forming beneath the sanguine red that drenched Sji's face. He made his way over to Genzo allowing the mobster to get a feel for the blood lust contained within, as he got closer the gangster's knee gave way and he fell to the ground.

"St-st-Stay back!!!" Genzo had drawn a knife which Sji batted aside easily, the mobster had mostly given up on trying to resist so it took little effort instead pleading with Sji to back away. The grin only widened as Sji was now upon the man face to face, he could feel the breath of Genzo on his face it stunk a little of garlic.

"Boop." Sji placed a single index finger on Genzo's nose with a light prod and then retreated back in a rapid fashion to take his place at Yato's side. He grinned at Yato giving a bow to him a mockery of the kind of bow a performer would do at the end of a play. "No wonder this lowlife is looking for outside help Yatty, I wouldn't have even asked those guys to protect someone for free, we should charge extra for the effort we had to waste for this demonstration and the time wasted in this dump." Sji let out his gleeful laugh before hoping back up on the well and swinging his legs about, time to let the boring part of the business happen Sji would give it all his attention despite his dislike for it.

[Plotboard] A Warm-Up Contract

Yato managed to grunt a single syllable that was something of a mix between a laugh and a cough, as Sji returned back to his side. "So..." He smiled as he stepped up from his lean and slowly walked to Genzo, leaning towards the man himself. "Am I trying to game you for your money?" His smile quickly warped into the same look of disdain as he spat in the man's face before backhanding him, sending him to the ground. Genzo groaned as his hands covered his face, as emotions of disbelief and terror oozed from his pores to the point that it one could smell it. Or, perhaps, it was the man soiling his pants.

Yato grabbed Genzo by the collar and forced him back up to his knees. He was now cackling with wide glossy eyes. It would be strange to anyone not familiar to Yato how quickly he was switching back and forth with his expressions and emotions. "The contract." Genzo looked to be disoriented, only able to stutter out some incoherent gibberish as his arms raised in front of his face. Yato cackled once more before releasing the man's collar and pacing side to side in front of the man.

"It's interesting, isn't it? How our primitive instincts kick in, the moment we're in danger." He glanced at Sji and smiled, looking him up and down as he observed the blood-covered boy. "The tables turn the moment that you realize you're powerless." His pacing stopped and one again he turned to Genzo, who immediately reacted by flinching and falling backwards into the blood stained dirt. "And all of a sudden, you come to realize that I'm making the demands. And you're paying me to do so." His smile remained the whole time, as he held his hand out to the mobster. "Come. Take my hand. Get up... Sir." He chuckled to himself at his sarcasm while Genzo took his hand and stood up.

The man cautiously dusted himself off and cleared his throat nervously as his eyes darted back and forth between the two white-haired nukenin. The shinobi who seemed to be nothing more than grunts just a few moments ago were now monsters, staring at Genzo and drooling with their claws out, ready to strike at his throat at any moment. "Y-y'know..." He laughed nervously and disjointed as he rapidly glanced between Sji and Yato. "T-those... Those guards cost me a... A hefty price... Hehe..."

Yato rolled his eyes at the man who had the audacity to try and bargain with them with death staring at him right in the eyes. "The contract."

Genzo let out a quick high-pitched shriek before taking in a deep breath. "A-Ah... Yeah. The contract. I have it all written here... B-but... I'll tell you..." He pulled an envelope out of his inner suit pocket, as he looked at both of the nukenin, unable to tell who was safer to hand the envelope to. Instead of handing it to either of them, he set it down gently on the floor between them with a quivering arm. "J-just need you to ambush some merchants... And g-get me th-the wood th-th-they've got." Yato smiled at the man with a kind gaze that looked all too inappropriate for the situation.

"Now was that so hard, Genzo?" He leaned over and picked up the envelope before stuffing it into his robe. "Let's go, Sji. Keke..." He passed by the mobster without bothering to look at him any longer, and whispered into his ear before the two were off. "See you tomorrow..."

Laughter erupted from Sji as Yato backhanded the mobster, it was like a parent scolding a child it was far too amusing for Sji to be able to contain the humorousness of the situation, the side of Genzo's face where Yato had slapped him had left a hot white hand print across his flushed cheeks. Genzo was in a state of shock before he finally was able to get any words out to Yato.

Sji could smell Genzo from where he was seated on the well, Sji really wanted to end this miserable excuse for a human but Yato wanted Sji to take on a job to prove he was up for the real deal. He took a deep breath and leapt up off the wall of the well landing on the dust covered ground with a soft crunch, Sji did not intend to let Yato down before they even got out the gate so to speak.

He let out a gleeful laugh at Yato's comment about instincts, after all they were mammals instinct was all most animals had to rely on. "There are very few people who wouldn't piss themselves when you threaten them Yatty." Sji recalled their initial meeting, Yato had pummelled Sji into submission it had been a lesson hard learnt but not one he would forget anytime soon just thinking about it brought about phantom aches.

"If you paid a hefty price for those... 'guards' then you were ripped off, you might want to get your money back mister Genzo." Sji was as amused as Yato was about this lowlife scum still trying to wheel and deal through this exchange after the experience he had just been party to, hell would freeze over before he would be compensated for such sorry excuses for guards. He waited while their contact gave them the details of the Job, on the surface it sounded simple enough but Sji was sceptical in many respects anything that sounded simple tended to have added layers. He retrieved his Kunai from the dead man wiping the blood from them, he then responded to Yato's summons following after the Nukenin. He turned once to face Genzo and pulled on his right eye with his middle finger sticking his tongue out as he did so, he saw Genzo turn almost a lobster red out of anger but he didn't say anything he likely was too scared that Yato would turn back around.

"Yatty, after we have been paid can I kill him?" Sji asked in a sweet innocent voice, the kind of voice that did not match the question posed towards Yato. Sji wasn't so bothered about the way Genzo had called him a runt, it was only when he had begun disrespecting Yato that Sji was invested in destroying that man's life and eventually taking it. Genzo, that was a name Sji would remember for a very long time, it was a face he would not soon forget.

Yato shrugged with a cackle at Sji's compliment; it was true--he hadn't seen many people who weren't immediately broken by his threats. Perhaps it was something about the appearance, or his domineering attitude regardless of whether or not he was able to back up his bark. Still, it got the job done with Genzo, and it would continue to get the job done in the future.

As they walked away, Sji asked whether or not he could kill the mobster.

As if the boy didn't already know the answer.

Shrugging again, he smirked at Sji with a look of intensity in his eyes. "I'm not going to say you can kill him. But I won't be watching," he cackled playfully at his attempt at a hint.

The two had traveled quite a long distance before reaching the ambush point. The weather, hot and dreary like everywhere else in the area, would weigh down the two nukenin as it hit their bodies and bounced back up off the bright ground to hit them again. Sweat trailed from Yato's brow and dripped off of his chin before hitting the ground and drying immediately. He watched and waited patiently, holding back the urge to chuckle to himself and blow his cover. It was ironic, really; he couldn't speak for Sji, but he personally had left the village to absolve himself from his duties as his shinobi, and yet this job seemed much too 'shinobi-like' for his own tastes. The black mass that followed him around was deactivated for the sake of stealth, and the hands that gripped his body in a rigor were invisible from plain sight.

They stood upon a cliff that hung over a narrow passageway in the mountains. One one side of the passageway was the wall of the cliff that they waited patiently on, and on the other side was a steep drop that would almost certainly lead to death. If the two weren't careful, well... Needless to say, it was a risky jump down.

"Do you remember everything?" He smiled at Sji; the plan was concise and straight to the point: the moment Sji saw a caravan, he was free to ambush them however he wanted. All he had to do was retrieve the chest of wood that the caravan held, and it would be a mission complete. The whole mission was practically going to be the boy working towards his own development, while Yato watched over him and gave an assessment of his worth. He didn't expect much, as his time with the boy had allowed him to assess his levels of chakra already, but he was nonetheless eager to see Sji's work being done.

[Plotboard] A Warm-Up Contract

"A simple plan is always easy to remember Yatty. I dislike the lack of information on this one, nothing in the contract mentions what kind of escort we are to expect if any." Sji chuckled as he peered down the long drop before them, he expected more than likely that it meant trouble when their employer left out the finite details of the operation beyond the contents of the convoy and it's route.

Sji made a handseal moving chakra to the underside of his feet, he waved at Yato as he took a step off the cliff falling only a fraction of a second before planting his feet on the wall that lay before him with a slight skid until he came to a stop on the cliff face. Sji began lining out the exploding tags he had brought with him enough to collapse two segments of the road down the drop below making it impossible for any caravan to move forward or retreat.

He moved up the cliff face once more humming away as he got to work, handseals were formed and Sji went about placing down three pools of Storm chakra on the area one being a Deca Trap and the other two being snare traps he left the Deca Trap as it was but covered the other two Storm pools he sprinkled some of the dust on the ground into them. The Traps were laid out in the position he imagined they would halt the caravan at as soon as Sji would come into view. They were not placed so obvious as to catch them on the initial wave but more as they began to scatter to defend the caravan itself.

Sji then began to tear his own clothing, a few grazes also added nothing that would hinder him but enough to look convincing and lastly he would cover himself in dust to try and signify time having passed before laying down in the middle of his trap, Sji had laid sprawled out like someone who had been assaulted perhaps robbed also.

That was how the convoy would find him after an hour had passed a single innocent child appearing to be in the age range of thirteen or fourteen lying in the road battered and bruised. Sji waited until they had approached the center of his trap, spoke out in a hoarse but audible voice. "Plea..se w...wa- water." Waiting for the escort to be drawn away from the convoy but not too far that they were close enough to react to Sji's next movements, he made a handseal and detonated the total of four explosive tags. Then in a fluid motion Sji had thrown three smoke bombs from his quick draw pouches, they landed in a successive line straight for that caravan giving him enough coverage to stand and begin making his sprint over to it while the escort was still disoriented from the detonation of the road and subsequent smoke. Sji began making hand signs as he ran all the same it never hurt to be cautious as Lightning began to crackle around his body.
Jutsu UsedShow
*Ranton • Deca Trap
C-rank Ranton Ninjutsu
After performing a string of handseals, the user focuses storm chakra into one of their hands to create a ball of liquid two inches in diameter. This can then be placed on the ground to create a puddle no more than 2 square meters or placed in some kind of receptacle, like a glass. The liquid triggers on contact, causing it to burst into 5 ribbons with a strength of 5 and a speed of 10 that lunge for whoever triggered the trap, up to a range of 3.5 meters. This technique will deeply pierce skin, causing substantial bleeding, and inflicts loss of sensation to the impacted areas. The trap dissipates if not triggered within 3 posts.

Ranton • Storm in a Puddle
C-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing several hand seals, Sji places his hands side by side on the ground. He then moves them apart leaving behind a thin layer of what seems like water measuring 0.5 metres in diameter, the puddle is only 2cm deep. When stepped upon by someone holding foreign chakra, that is chakra that is not Sji's, the puddle moves it's way up to the ankles of the one stepping on it the liquid then tightens around the legs of the target at a speed of 10. It then holds the target in place, the trap has a strenght of 10. The trap will last for a total of 4 posts.

*Raiton • Static Shroud
D-Ranked Raiton Jutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user covers their body in a layer of visible static which crackles around them for 4 posts. Anything which comes within 6 inches of their body will be repelled with a force of 5 strength and have the Raiton Shocking effect applied.

[Plotboard] A Warm-Up Contract

Post by Fake » Tue Jun 19, 2018 12:41 pm

As the caravan approached the young boy laying in the middle of the narrow path, a single person leading the pack on a horse of his own raised his hand as a signal for the others behind him to come to a halt. Climbing off of his horse, the man watched with narrowed eyes at the boy who was in the middle of nowhere asking for water; it was all too strange. For someone to just be on a trade route, at an elevation that only people who intentionally traversed, would be sprawled out on the ground was just suspicious in all capacities.

As soon as Sji's hands moved to form a seal to detonate the bombs, the man's widened as he quickly climbed back on the horse and motioned for the caravan to move back. "Back! Back! Quick!" Oddly enough, the caravan had a mechanism that allowed for the wheels to travel down the slope behind them as the horses that carried it would follow suit. The entire group, save for the lead-scout narrowly avoided the explosions.

Unfortunately for Sji, setting off bombs on a narrowly aligned cliff was less than conducive to success. Despite the fact that the boy would throw bombs, the cliff itself began to crumble quickly, and with it, both the entire group of merchants along with the carriage and products, and Sji would fall with the cliff collapsing beneath them. The drop was steep, and hundreds of feet at the very least.

Yato watched on with discerning eyes, wondering how the boy was going to get himself out this mess.

[Plotboard] A Warm-Up Contract

Sji had made it halfway to the caravan after his explosions had detonated, he had made sure to give sufficient space he didn't want the ground collapsing underneath him after all. It was as he reached the halfway mark that the ground betrayed his feet and fell away, it seemed he had not taken into account just how soft the ground in this region was it could not withstand a sudden impact like that. Sji cursed his lack of understanding of the local region, this was why he craved to experience everything he could so much. If he had been aware of how the ground here was then he would have spaced the explosion differently and used a smaller blast, Sji managed to reach out for one of the larger sections of rock falling off the cliff Chakra was channeled to his feet and he stood there as the boulder rotated around to face him with the plunging caravan.

"Good morning campers!" Sji laughed as he was throwing handsigns together, they seemed to be sitting ducks as aerial targets Sji focused on the more armed members of the caravan as he fired off a jet of storm chakra at the most able bodied of the caravan's defenders. It clashed against one in the middle of the group that were tumbling downwards, as soon as it impacted the resulting splashes created six new attacks that spread out from the original point of impact then returned to pierce the original target in his legs and arms.

Sji pushed off from the boulder with as much force as he could muster, throwing himself at what remained of the cliff he applied chakra to his hands and feet as he landed against the cliff Sji began to slide down the cliff until all his momentum was expelled safely. Sji pushed off with his hands and stood on the side of the cliff as if it was any other ground. He observed the caravan from where he was stood, his shroud of raiton still crackling around him. He watched it crash into the ground below, it was a beautiful sight to behold as far as Sji was concerned as the bodies of the cart's escort contorted and changed shape as they crashed to the ground. The horse screamed murder, it had by some miracle somehow survived the fall but it was far from intact, he imagined that most of the bones in it's body were broken and death was soon to follow.

He wondered what had gone through their minds as they fell, not that he cared about their feelings it was just curiosity for the sake of curiosity he even wondered if some of them had time to think of anything due to the sudden shock of the situation that had befallen them. He admired the beauty of the scene below him, while it did not go entirely according to plan it seemed to have worked out for the best in the end. Sji felt it had been too easy however and so he threw a single kunai with an explosive tag at a section of the cliff below, away from where Sji would be stood he did not intend to fall again and now he knew just how soft the rock was around here.

Sji watched the resulting rubble crash down around the caravan none of the pieces large enough to destroy the cart itself but big enough to cause significant injury to anything still potentially alive down there. He heard the final cry of the horse silenced suddenly as one of the larger rocks slammed itself down on it's neck with a resounding crunch, Sji was glad for that at the very least the noise had started to get annoying.

"Yoo-hoo~ Anyone alive down there?! If so don't bother answering just step out into the open, make this easy for the five of us and just kill yourself we want to go home sometime today." Sji watched intently on the scene below it was times like this that he thought sensory would be a handy technique to pick up, in any event Sji hoped that this would satisfy Yato for the mean time. Sji was glad of the Caravan being slightly behind schedule it had given him a chance to recover from placing the traps, he had needed the energy to improvise with what had ended up happening.

[Plotboard] A Warm-Up Contract

Post by Fake » Thu Jun 21, 2018 2:48 pm

As the caravan, merchants, boulders, and all flew down and through the air Sji took precautionary measures, Yato watched on with a yawn. It was missions like these that made the white-haired nukenin question whether or not it was ever worth it to take on the lower-level mediocre-paying contracts.

The life drained from their faces as their perceptions slowed and they stared at the floor, which grew larger and larger, staring back at them with the harrowing impending death that laid ahead. To make matters worse, Sji had been firing off projectiles at them to make sure that they wouldn't make the fall; it was overkill, really. The merchant group hardly ever faced bandits as their merchandise wasn't particularly worth a huge amount, and to be ambushed like this was a bout of misfortune to the greatest extent.

The sound of bodies, wooden structures, and everything in between crushing against the rocky floor thundered throughout the mountain ranges, letting everyone and everything in the immediate area know that something was up. Luckily for Sji, the only living people remaining were him and Yato. And again, for 'good measure', Sji would set off yet another explosion.

"Flashy, aren't you...?" Yato would mutter to himself as he dropped straight down the cliff to the area where the destruction had occurred, before stopping midair just a few inches above the ground. Observing the crash, he stared blankly at the dead bodies and glanced back up at Sji, who was cheerily staring back down at the scene.

"Guess the next step would be to take all of this over to where that mobster is, yeah?" The question was more rhetorical than anything else, and a slight hint of disappointment washed across his lips as he stared down at the mess that was made. If anything, to complete the task, he would have to help, but before any intervention was necessary he wanted to see what kind of solution Sji had.

[Plotboard] A Warm-Up Contract

Sji made his way down to the caravan, began poking at corpses with a stick several short sharp prods at each one and surprisingly enough one of the merchants miraculously was alive coughing up blood and soon to be taken by death. Sji skipped over to where he was humming away as he went to do the dark deed, he slowly placed a kunai at the man's throat his eyes wide with fear as he knew what was coming yet his body unable to respond. Sji pushed the blade into his victim's throat point first slowly, it gave Sji a satisfying squelch sound as it pierced the throat turning the man's coughing its gurgling noises as the light left his eyes they seemed to scream a question at Sji, why?

Satisfied with his work despite the need for improvisation for the majority of it, plans rarely survived first contact as he had come to learn. Yato had come to join him Sji picked up on the dissatisfaction with the scene that lay before him, he was not fond of this kind of work it was clear he thought it beneath his skills and Sji agreed with that at the very least however this would also not draw as much attention as the contracts he was used to there were benefits just as much as drawbacks.

"My bad Yatty! Haha~ It pays to be thorough I don't want any of the targets to survive by some miracle and report what happened here, after all the purpose of this was to test me not to draw attention to ourselves right?" Sji imagined that most people would write this off as a tragic accident, seeing as their cargo was not that valuable in the first place it did not do to start an investigation into something that may turn out to be nothing more. He began to throw together some handseals summoning a clone of Raiton and directing him to begin gathering up the wood that had spilled from the cart, he repeated this again and let the pair get to work on the timber.

Sji looked at the state of the cart itself, it's axle had split, the sides shattered and most of the wood had spilt out, fortunately it was not full logs they were dealing with the wood had already been refined into planks. He glanced at Yato and shrugged at him, Sji had at the very least gathered the wood together in one place moving it from here to their employer was another matter. "Given time I could make something out of the wreckage of the cart that would do the job but I don't think you want to be here any longer than we have to be." Sji had proven he was capable of handling these kind of missions at the very least and was capable of even delivering the goods had he not had Yato around, whether this was of any merit to Yato in his assessment Sji did not know perhaps it didn't matter to Yato either way.

[Plotboard] A Warm-Up Contract

Sji had come up with a quick and viable solution to their dilemma; perhaps he wasn't going to be as useless as Yato had initially projected him to be. He shrugged once more at Sji's assumption, responding, "You're probably right. Let's just get paid and get out of here." And with that, he let Sji do the heavy lifting as he flew slowly in the direction of the town Genzo was staying in. His flight was paced so steadily that he almost seemed to look like a paper in the wind, had it not been for the hulking black mass of chakra around him.

Time would quickly pass by as the two would reach their destination--yet another dead bum town in the middle of nowhere. With weather and conditions similar to the previous place where the two had been waiting for Genzo, Yato gritted his teeth at the thought of waiting again. If the man wasn't there before they were, Yato was going to kill him. The sun pierced Yato's pale skin as droplets of sweat would escape from his skin and evaporate just as quickly as they had formed. He didn't want to spend any longer than a few moments making the transaction.

Glancing back, Yato gave Sji a thumb-up for diligently carrying the wood the whole way. The boy had a lot of annoying quirks, but more importantly, he had value in that he was willing to do such menial things for the sake of improvement. This type of diligence was one that Yato knew to appreciate.

Surely enough, as the two approached the center of town, in front of yet another waterwell was Genzo, standing haughtily with a cigar perched between his lips. One could hear a cheerful hum coming from the man as tufts of smoke pushed from his nostrils. He remained standing still even though he noticed the two nukenin through his shades, and instead of saying anything he smirked. Yato narrowed his eyes as the mist that followed his body seeped through the town and caught on to several bodies hiding in and underneath the buildings. As he progressed further and further into the town, the number of hidden people continued to rise rapidly, and all the while Genzo's smile grew larger and larger. Yato slowed his pace a bit so that Sji would be able to catch up and come close enough to hear his whisper.

"It's a trap. Get ready."

With that, his back straightened and he walked toward Genzo without so much as an indication that he knew what was up. If it was a fight the man wanted, he would get one. But first: trivial formalities.

Sji followed after Yato on foot, his Raiton doubles carrying the majority of the load while Sji. The heat was unpleasant in the area surrounding the abandoned town they were to meet Genzo in once more, Sji decided he should acquire some form of sun protection if Yato was going to be dragging him around all these hot places, something like an umbrella that would be fun. Yato had given him a small splash of praise, Sji was done his life goal completed he could die happy.

"It's a trap. Get ready."

Then again Sji could afford to stick around longer, a bit of murder was always a great way to improve a day full of chores and dull affairs. Sji hated being told who he had to kill, choosing to kill of his own volition was far better it held more meaning when it was personal. He spotted a face peering out of a window briefly watching the pair of Shinobi get closer to Genzo. The mobster had at the very least had the sense to change from the piss stained clothing he was wearing from their last encounter, he had a smirk on his face. "Oh! Look it is... uhmmm... Genchu right? I don't see our payment anywhere, don't tell me you are going to make us walk to get it."

Sji zoned out from the precise words Genzo mentioned next, his attention shifting to the would be assailants. He waited for Yato to make his move first before reacting accordingly, Sji threw together hand seals combining them to spread Raiton Chakra around his body. Lightning began to crackle about Sji, the occasional spark flaring up in an aura like fashion around him. Sji pushed off heading straight for the building he had confirmed as occupied earlier. Bursting through the rotten wood wall of the house amplified by the strength of his Raiton protection it gave way easily, he was in a room with four well armed thugs more than daggers and farming implements some of these fine gentlemen had blades.

"Tag you're it~" Sji said as he forced the flat of his palm against the stomach of one of the more startled looking thugs of the group blasting him away with the Raiton that crackled around Sji in a fuzzy static manner. He threw a Kunai into the throat of the other startled member of this merry little band in the building with him, the other two recovering from the shock threw their blades against his Raiton cloak and soon realising the mistake they had made being blasted back rather violently. Sji dispatched those easily and moved on to the next building in a rather quick fashion, no doubt Yato had already killed far more than Sji had.

Sji laughed almost manically yet still retaining the childish thrill to his voice at the chaos that unfolded around them, he hadn't let loose like this in a while after all. "Yato! Let's burn it all!" Sji descended into cackling as he slid through an open window to commit wanton slaughter once more allow the blood of his enemies to wash over him like a person would do the same with a refreshing shower.

[Plotboard] A Warm-Up Contract

As Sji went off and did what he did best, Yato remained standing and staring at Genzo from only a few feet away. Amidst the chaotic sound of assailants clashing their blades against walls and men being slaughtered, it was inappropriately quiet between the two, as they stood staring silently at eachother for the moments to come. It was Genzo who then broke the silence, chuckling cockily as he did so.

"You weren't expecting this, were you, fuckin' shithead?"

"Quite the contrary, actually. People like you do th--

"Shut up, Yatter! People like you are the reason I lose my best men!"

Yato stood quietly as he put his palm up to his face and rubs his temples with his thumb and finger. "With the nicknames... Again..." It would be a massive understatement to say that nicknames had quickly become one of Yato's biggest pet peeves. With Sji re-entering the team, it seemed that the only thing that had changed between Yato's massive growth and Sji's unchanging bloodlust and curiosity, was the fact that Sji had taken a liking to the nickname 'Yatty'. Why exactly did Yato put up with that? It was a question that even he didn't know the answer to.

Sighing, he tilted his head slightly and formed a set of handseals before he lunged a fist straight at Genzo's face--something which the man narrowly avoided by leaping back. "Think I'm too weak to put up a fight against you, Yatter? Fighting's more than just being strong yourself. You can fight with money!" Genzo cackled before taking off at a laughable pace, while men from all sides, armed and armored, surrounded Yato. It wasn't so much of the fact that Yato couldn't kill them all at a moment's notice, but he figured that if they were going to come this far, he would have to get paid for it. Genzo was bound to have some sort of a base or hideout, and wherever that was, the money was. His punch was not aimed to hit the man, but rather to plant a small bit of chakra on him to track him. At this point it was just a matter of timing and pacing.

In the blink of an eye, the hands that gripped Yato came into visibility before ripping the men around him to pieces as if they were pieces of livestock in a factory. He watched on at Genzo, who continued to run in a manner that resembled a stumbling cripple trying to win a race. Looking back, Yato stared at Sji who seemed to be having his own fun. He shrugged to himself before walking in Genzo's direction to follow him.

Sji had indeed been having fun, the best part about greedy people like Genzo was if they hired on mass they usually hired cheap. Most of these assassin's combat experience was limited to drunken tavern brawls at best, Sji cut through the weakest first avoiding the strongest of the group till the rabble had been cut away. Once his work was complete Sji had gone to setting the town ablaze it had not taken long to find the materials to start a fire. He skipped from the burning building dragging along one of the survivors as they breathed in agony from their wounds, dropping him once he saw Yato leaving clearly the time for playing around had come to an end.

Sji picked up speed to come along side Yato, he took pace with him and the pair were soon on the trail that Genzo was leaving for them. "He runs faster than I thought he would, not fast enough mind. I am going to buy an umbrella when we are done here, the sun has been really unpleasant." Sji cackled still high on adrenaline as Genzo continued to run away into the distance, he likely thought his base the only safe place in the world from the pair at this moment. How very wrong he was, the closer he got to his headquarters the closer he brought the Nukenin to their pay day Sji licked his lips at the very thought."Actually I have to say getting paid is nearly as good as killing someone, wouldn't you agree."

The sun began to set as a lone frightened mobster huffed and heaved his way towards his goal, a distance away a pair of sinister looking travellers stalked his every move. Genzo was fully aware that he was being followed, he had no where else to go and desperation called for rash decisions. "Fu- huff... Fuckin' Yatter!"
