Far from any small town, and even farther still from the great Shinobi Villages, an ancient forest, untouched by civilization, home to great, giant trees and even greater mysteries, towered high above a single path. This path was not formed by man, but it seemed the trees themselves parted ways, acting as guide for the weary traveler following along. This forest held many treasures and secrets, but today it seemed it was only willing to reveal one.

The winding path passed by quite a few oddities: giant, red and yellow spotted mushrooms that would occasionally pop and release their spores, letting the wind take them away, majestic white deer, with eyes that glowed like the moonlight, a blue caterpillar the size of a man slowly climbing up one of the massive trees. The path, however, passed by each, and the traveler with it, until finally the trees opened up.

Surrounded by forest, a small lake appeared. This calm, dark waters gave off a foreboding aura, as if they hid something evil deep within. However, the path led straight through to the middle of the lake, changing from grass to stone as it reached the shore. In the center of the lake was a small bit of land, barren except for one stone dais. The stone, a black granite, held no markings, no man had formed this. On the top of the stone, there was a small cutout running along the entire center. Perhaps this had once been used as a sacrificial table, but now instead it held a powerful blade, with a single, unblemished edge. It was as if time had had no effect on this blade, it was as spotless and sharp as its first day.

Standing before this powerful weapon was Ishiguro Rinko, ready to harness the blade for herself.

Was this a dream? Rinko had yet to figure out how she had gotten to this, this mystical, miraculous place. It was if everything had been a blur, before she began treading this path as if something was pulling her down it. Without question she had followed the opening within the leaves, past the mushrooms, past the beasts gorgeous and grotesque, padding lightly along the stone bridge. As she crossed, a chill zinged down her spine, and she quickened her pace. Although she'd taken this path without a second thought, she was beginning to feel that something was not quite right. Or, perhaps it was just her own nerves?

Rinko paused before the small island in the middle. She'd read a story once, about a fairy island. Whoever stepped foot on it without permission had turned into dandelion seeds and blown away in the wind, and although she had wished to disappear many a time, this was not one of them. But no, why was she here, then, if her only destiny was to trickle away into the sky? She stepped forward, and when she felt herself whole and in one piece, approached the dais.

Made of black granite, it was an intimidating structure- intimidating, yet beautiful, and made even more so by the blade lying within it. By no means was Rinko any expert with blades, nor had she even studied them whatsoever, but even she could appreciate the craftsmanship that had clearly gone into the sword, as if it had been forged by the gods themselves. After giving the black stone a cursory, likely useless glance for traps and seals, she reached for the handle, spellbound.

If she died, at least she would have touched the most beautiful thing here.
