The island of Teuri, located several kilometers east of Fire Country, had seen its share of thieves. The frozen land was home to the crumbling fortress of a treasure hunter that had been dead centuries. His name had long ago been lost; all that was left of the man was the cracked stone of a circular tower and castle walls that had been eaten away by sea salt and time. The seemingly abandoned castle was a memorial to an era long past: empty, forlorn, and forgotten.

In truth, the castle had become the headquarters of a small gang of pillagers with a penchant for raiding coastal villages. Some of them likened themselves to treasure hunters, which made the castle a perfect base of operations. In their quest to become the greatest pirates since the nameless owner they had come across a truly valuable treasure: a strange cloak appropriately named Desire. The thieves had stored the item in an underground cavern beneath the tower along with their other treasures: gold, sapphires, and the like. They had argued fiercely about its rightful owner, and their Desire became their Death. Their bodies littered the tower, splattering its walls with blood.

The scene of carnage would turn away most, but a lone adventurer pushed forward. Unlike the final thief who had collapsed just before entering the cavern, our hero found her way inside. It laid in the middle of the room atop a stone table, ready to be taken.

To say the genin was unphased by the scene of carnage would be an understatement. Despite the chaos littered around, Niku pushed forward, determined to discover the cloak named Desire. Seeing the cloth of unknown origin laying atop a stone table, Niku surveyed the room, worried that some terrible fate would befall her, as it had all those around her, if she weren't cautious. Taking a few short and slow steps towards the middle of the room, Niku kept her eyes and ears open. Convinced that there were no booby traps nor others around, Niku rushed the last few steps, grabbing the cloak. She quickly threw it around herself, still aware that she wasn't out of danger yet.
