"Alright boys! Gather round! Time for a story by ol Kaisui 'ere"

The Captain's voice was heard booming across the ship by his crew over the slap of the waves against the ship. The lanterns were dimmed but everyone could see clearly at the moment. A bright full moon had blessed their voyage and the stars above twinkled like gems in a chest. The setting was just right for one of his tall tales. The one he had in mind was actually based around a particular shinobi he met that had indirectly been the cause of his turn to piracy.

He pictured the strange skeletal wings and the eerie glowing flames the man had. It was weird and unnatural. Not to mention he was practically naked, though to be fair so was Kaisui when they first met. A man to be feared with more power in one punch than Kaisui had seen in his whole life. Almost a goal he aimed to achieve actually.

A new face rang the dinner bell to gather the crew around him though Kaisui was sure most had heard him. He sat down on a barrel and took a swig o' rum as Umiko slid down a rope from the crow'snest. The crew had mostly grown hush and quiet, eager to hear what their strange leader had to say. A man that could breath underwater and shoot lightning from his finger tips. Too most the captain was like an infallible god that not could strike down, not even a hurricane. Most of his past stories were actually about the war in Kumogakure. The crew seemed to enjoy the thrilling tales of battle and sorcery as they called it.

"Let me ask.Has any of ye heard tale of the cursed ship? No. Not the one with black sails, this one is far more terrifying than that."

He paused to let the tension build. Kaisui had turned story telling into an art as he used to tell Umiko stories to soothe her to sleep. He took another sip of rum to wet his whistle before his deep gravely voice spoke once more. What most failed to see staring at him with baited breath was that as he spoke a thick heavy fog would start to encroach as thick dark clouds rolled in.

"This ship is built from human bones that glow with an eerie light on a night like this, neath the light of the fair beautiful moon. Arriving in a thick fog surrounded by green flame like lights... And her captain. A man of nightmares. So strong he can split the ocean with but a thrust of his hand. He... Oi! Dont be talkin bout is poor wife. You laugh mates. But he's real. Its cause of him we have this wonderful ship so to speak...

He paused thinking about that time they sailed and sang together. Was certainly an interesting time to be sure. The man wasn't a half bad sailor and Kaisui honestly believed had they lived different lives they may have been friends. As he began to speak again a chill ran down his spine as the hairs on his neck began to stand up on their own. Glancing around he realized dark clouds were beginning to block out the sky and the fog he'd spied earlier was about to swallow the ship. Funny coincidence hed just been speaking about a fog.

"Unfilter the lanterns, we'll need more light if I'm to continue! And another bottle! Ayeyiahyaih why's the rum always gone?"

He tossed the empty bottle the empty bottle over board. Unbeknownst to him the bottle didn't drown as it splashed into the murky waters below. It floated drifting in the sea for a bit stubbornly refusing to sink. Oddly enough as it travelled through the waters it didn't disturb any sea life. Or rather none was around to be disturbed...

Skeleton in the mist.

Post by TheLegendaryCrabman » Mon Jun 08, 2020 8:00 pm

The shroud of night had fallen once more while at high sea. Every day it was as if the sun itself locked them aside and away from the whole world in its absence. Some of these nights were welcome. They left the crew in its own little world, free of worry and responsibility. Other nights however were not. For a being so inexperienced in the ways of the world, Crabman couldn't help but rely on his instincts often. And in nights like these, he felt these instincts making him anxious. It was nothing with the water, nor any of the crew. Rather, this unease came from the air itself.

He shook these feelings aside as he approached Kaisui along with the rest of the pirates of Black Wake. Umiko, the Captain's sister and lookout along with Ichiro, the First Mate and himself as the Quartermaster sat the closest to him, though spread apart enough that the rest could hear loud and clearly.

Crabman rather enjoyed Kaisui's scary stories. They tingled a part of him that he hadn't felt much from when living isolated in a laboratory. Of course, it weren't the ghost ships and krakens that particularly interested him. No, it was the piles of treasure, gold and jewels that these creatures and spirits defended with curses and storms. The oversized crustacean's eyes would positively glint as he heard Kaisui speak with his rough voice, painting images of actual mountains of rubies and sapphires within gigantic coves. And it all could be theirs, so long as they beat out the gigantic creature of the day.

"Brrrrrrr, brrr, brrr, brrr, brrr..." He heartily chuckled along with the rest of the crew as they began to put their imaginations to use, trying to outdo each other on how much of a ridiculous act of passion the man of bones could inflict upon his potential woman. Crabman found that he had been losing his innocence at a fast pace ever since he'd joined the crew, but he still was a young lad with much to experience. Something that Umiko was always so quick to tease him about, knowing she could make him shy.

Kaisui stopped before proceeding with his story, requesting additional light and additional alcohol. Crabman himself stood up to point some of the crew and unfilter some of the lamps himself before reaching for the rum. He would appear completely distracted as he did so. His eyes attempted to focus through the fog, to adapt to all the different little colour configurations that would allow him to see through it and yet, even with eyes such as his, he couldn't. Perhaps it was the alcohol, perhaps it was something more.

He took a swig before handing the bottle to Kaisui, at which time he proceeded to check his arm. Every single bristle-like seta stood up at attention, flooding him with a tingling sense all over his body. Acting as his ears, nose and tongue, these hairs acted as three fifths of his entire senses and Crabman wasn't understanding what they were trying to tell him. Without turning his eyes from the mist that covered the sea, he expressed his feeling of eeriness towards Kaisui.

"Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...."

Freedom was a wonderful, dreadful thing. For someone who has been bereft of it all their life and only gained it after becoming an adult it's like a drug that leads you from one place to another in rapid succession, eagerly taking in all that you were not able to because of circumstance up to that point. Yet at the same time the allure of the familiar was a comfort not easily discarded. Thus it was for Aimi Kaguya on that clear, starry, moonlit night that he stood out on top of the misty sea and thought of years gone by, of a certain island to the east of Kirigakure that could hardly be said to be there at all but had been the staging point of his napalm experiments time and time again. Thus it was that he was there that night, also training.

Or at least he had been. The water beneath his feet was tumultuous and heaving, lifting him up several feet into the air and pulling him back down over and over again. The waves were his own making, and quite a ways away those same waves, little more than ripples at that point in comparison, crashed against a certain ship. Aimi panted heavily and rode the waves up and down over and over until the water was more or less calm once again. He'd been out on the sea since sunset pouring tremendous amounts of energy into trying to turn the world upside down, so to speak, and now... now he was tired. Now he needed rest. Now he was once again tired of the sea, but didn't feel he had the energy to fly to shore.

So with a sigh of contentment the Kaguya ran his hands through his long, wet hair, pulling out tangles and knots as he went, turned and walked over the water in a western direction and started to make his way slowly back towards shore. He was cold though and to stave off that cold he threw his hands together into a quick set of seals and formed in his hand a dull ball of blue flame before pressing it to his drenched bare chest and pulling his hand away. The fire clung to his chest as he walked and it would slowly work to warm his bones and dry him off, the little flame acting like a second body temperature that hugged him for warmth. On he walked over the water for quite some time before something caught his eye.

At first he wasn't sure that it was there. Just another glitter of the moon that appeared for a moment on a small crest and then vanished again. Only - there it was again! Different shaped from the crests of water, more angular and solid. The bannin wondered what it could be and he stood still for a moment, waiting to see it again. Once he did he darted over towards it and picked it up from out of the water. It was... a bottle. A bottle of rum? He squinted his eyes in the misty moonlight and turned the bottle over in his hands as water dripped down back into the sea and looked at the label. He didn't recognize the brand and as he lifted the bottle up he shook it, empty, and then sniffed at the lip of the bottle.

It was then that he noticed the now not-so-distant light of a fire and he looked up towards it. Always want to be a firebug and still quite cold and exhausted, he wondered if that wasn't a ship he was looking at, and if they wouldn't allow him to come aboard...

The first mate stood a few feet from the crabman, watching their captain gather the men for one of his tales. With his own drink in hand, a mug of ale the lithe young man stood apart from the giants that he accompanied. Where Kaisui and the new quartermaster were intimidating figures, Ichiro was deceivingly average looking. However, as the first aboard, having traveled with Kaisui and Umiko for over a year he had learned much about sailing the seas and had developed his talents in Ninjutsu, having learned water release techniques previously and picking up some skill in lightning style under Kaisui’s mentorship. He too was known for being quick and deft with Yoshin style swordsmanship and quite knowledgeable about anatomy, originally seeking the powers of Ninjutsu to pursue medical techniques. If being able to perform feats of magic weren’t enough to gain respect, even the burliest man knew to value the person who they relied on to treat sicknesses and mend wounds. Ichiro’s calm disposition and level head were also likely factors for why he had been chosen as the captains second in command. He was not the leader that Kaisui was, not nearly as charismatic or inspiring but he was well suited to guide and support and still strong enough to keep those under him in line.

Taking slow but deep drinks of ale Ichiro leaned against a barrel, icy blue eyes invigorated by the story. He even chuckled heartily at the lewder remarks of some of the men. Ichiro too had found his innocence quickly stripped of him the longer he travelled with the crew. It was not uncommon for him to indulge in brothels when they found themselves ashore, though Umiko often protested against such a use of his time and as such it was kept rather sparingly. The boy had grown into a man, no longer so shy and focused on his studies. Sure, he still enjoyed reading and loved to learn, absorbing any new thing with fervent interest but so too had he learned to relax a little and enjoy festivities, to drink and laugh. He had filled out a little too, displaying an athletic build though still slim compared to many of the bulking figures of the crew.

He glanced over to the crabman as he noticed him look down at his arm. It was difficult to really get to know someone who couldn’t speak though he seemed reasonably intelligent and though new to the crew the quartermaster fit in well. He interested Ichiro and surely more than once he had seen the young medic observing him carefully, learning the way his tendons worked and how to disable him if needed but so too had he come to see him as a companion. He felt the shift in the weather himself, a heavy fog rolling in, a certain eerie calmness in the sea, “You feel it too huh? Capt’n sure has a way with words, even the Sea responds to his call” he observed, icy calm, smirking slightly behind his cup.

Umiko snuck over and sniffed Ichiro's mug before making a face. She couldn't stand beer. It wasnt nearly as yummy as the drinks she mixed together with Kaisui's rum. No it reminded her of bread and was definitely not something she wanted to drink. She preferred the sweet sugary fruity drinks.

"Ichi-niisan... Im all out of juicedo you have any oranges or something hidden away?"

She quietly whined and pleased trying to get his attention from Kaisui's story. Mean while the good captain himself would set about explaining more of the ship. After taking a swig from the bottle passed by Kani-san. Unfortunately, he misinterpreted the crabman's intentions as being cold verses wary of the fog.

"The crew themselves are actually part of the ship itself. When raiding and looting ships, skeletons pull themselves free of the ship. A hoard of the dead flooding the main deck. Swarming like locust devouring the living as they pass. They'll even be leaping from the mast above on to unsuspecting sailors below. Sure a few miss and shatter but-."

With a resounding boom thunder rolled from the clouds over head as they swallowed the sky. The beautiful gem like stars and full moon became hidden from sight devoured by the roaring clouds. Oddly enough, everything seemed to grow still, the waves grew calm, the chilling breeze seemed to vanish. Everything but the dark clouds and the fog...even Umiko noticed something was off and quit whining an pestering Ichiro.

"Seems to be something foul a foot... Perhaps its best if we leave this story for another time..."

"Brrrrrrrrrrrrr...." Crabman responded to Ichiro in agreement, though obviously not convinced. He might not have had enough time to develop a bond of trust with the First Mate as he had with the Captain, but somehow he had come to trust his judgment more than his own. There was an aura around the icy-eyed young man, the kind of feeling one gives off when they take their time to think. The atmosphere of someone who does not allow themselves to be taken away by mere rumor or myth. Less romantic, of course, but far more reliable when it came to the dangers of the world.

And yet, as he stared at his arm and then back at the sea he couldn't help but feel that this time he might have been wrong. People of logic and calculation were good at taking apart and digesting the truth of the world but also terrible at listening to their instincts. And in Crabman's case, his entire being was one of instinct, gut-feelings and a vague but strong natural sense of his surroundings. This time, his gut told him something was coming. Something none of them saw coming. Something that made his hairs stand at attention and that made him wish he was back to his young crabling days of prancing in the laboratory with no worry or responsibility. None of Kaisui's stories had ever made him feel that way before.

Lightning struck the waves with a deafening roar as the storm appeared to grow and devour the air around them. If Kaisui's words had been barely audible before, they were now mere whispers in the wind. Their meaning wasn't lost, however. The Captain himself had sensed something awry. Crabman attempted to listen further to his Setae, and yet he couldn't taste, smell or hear anything other than the storm. It was as if the elements themselves wanted them to be blind, deaf and mute to whatever was coming.

"Brrrrrrrr! Krrkukukuku!" Crabman quickly signalled to a pair of sailors to catch their attention. Through mimicry, he ordered them to fuel the torches and lanterns and to find a way to cover them. If rain poured, they ran the risk of being in the dark. He had never been an authoritative person, and yet he took well to the role of Quartermaster. Most of the men followed the orders he had to give because of his willingness to lead by example and lack of a poor temper. The rest of them followed him on the account of not wanting to anger an incredibly tall crabperson.

He then turned to Ichiro once more. He gestured towards the surroundings of the ship, then towards the light and finally towards his own eyes, trying to convey that it was possibly a good idea to check the surroundings of the ship, in case they got themselves into trouble such as rocks, sea creatures or other hazards of nature. He didn't know exactly how to do it, but he found that Ichiro normally figured out what he meant quicker than Kaisui.

A crack of thunder and a flash of lightning would momentarily illuminate the water-walking ninja on the waves. He would look over his shoulders at the oncoming storm clouds and count himself lucky that he had chose to end his training session when he had. Powerful as he might have been, dealing with a tropical storm would be troublesome being as tired as he was. Turning back towards the light of the fire off in the distance the Kaguya hastened his steps towards it in the hopes of gaining shelter from the storm.

As he got closer he began to hear voices carried over by the wind. Nothing substantial at first. Just a word here or there - 'crew', 'ship', 'skeletons'. That last one gave the Kaguya pause for a brief moment. Why would a group of sailors be talking about skeletons? No sooner had the question crossed his mind then the rest because audible for him. Something about a hoard of the dead, swarming like locusts - ah. A ghost story, he realized. It must have been. As he came to the edge of the ship and looked up he felt a sense of relief wash over him once again. He reached out and placed his hand on the hull of the rocking ship, thankful to have found it and thankful to the crew who was sailing it. Looking up towards the edge of the deck he contemplated just how difficult it was going to be to jump up there given how tired he was. His legs quaked at the thought of exerting much more out of them for a large leap like that, yet he told himself nothing ventured, nothing gained.

With a light "Hup!" he jumped vertically up into the air and came to land in a crouching position, like a gargoyle, on the deck of the ship. Slowly he would stand up, puff out his chest as he breathed in, and looked around towards the small crew as he stood there, dripping wet, a ghostly-blue flame on his chest doing its' best to warm him up. "Uh, permission to come aboard?" he called out hesitantly. He was no sailor by any means, but he had a vague idea that there was a certain sort of protocol that seafaring individuals tended to follow. He had no idea what such protocols might be, but he figured being polite and announcing himself was probably the best thing to do.

Ichiro turned his attention to Umiko as she approached. No matter how enthralling the tale or how busy he was he could always spare a few minutes for her. He had a soft spot for the girl, originally hired on to the crew under the guise of being her bodyguard, or babysitter depending on how you looked at it. It hadn’t taken long for him to become a permanent member and find his own motivations for taking up piracy. Though Umiko had been growing up quickly in the span of only a year or so, Ichiro was sure he would always view her as a sort of little sister figure. Often when he looked at her, he was reminded of his real sister back home, someone he hadn’t seen for nearly 4 years now. The fact that the two of them were both native to the notoriously inhospitable Waterfall Country also helped contribute to his feeling of kinship. “Yeah, I can dig something up for you” he conceded. It had become a bit of a routine that he would save a few bags of the best fruit in his own stash, along with a healthy supply of herbs and roots for medical purposes. Keeping healthy was a high priority of his and naturally, he shared with the captain and Umiko, though they typically only got their dose of vitamins when mixing with rum, still whatever worked to keep them taken care of.

Leaning back he finished off his mug of beer, shifting to begin heading below deck when he heard the thunder resound in the sky. Frowning, his gaze grew more contemplative as he held a hand up, feeling the humidity in the air. It wasn’t just fog that was rolling in, there was a storm on the horizon he realized. No wonder the waters were so calm. “Storms Coming” he stated, just loud enough for those around him to hear. It was an unnecessary warning, more of an observation, as Kaisui of course realized it as well. He looked back to the crabman, realizing that he hadn’t simply been unnerved by the stories and the fog, he had felt something more serious. “You were right” he admitted, watching as he made gestures. Ichiro understood the gist of it. “Umi, get eyes on land if you can but don’t stay up there long, lightning approaches” he warned. He could feel it in the air, thunder was enough of a giveaway that lighting was striking but so too he could sense to some extent if it were to come nearer. His body was attuned to the affinity of lighting, and he could feel it calling, only the tiniest bit of chakra and sparks danced between his fingers, a clear indication that the air was already being charged.

The crew would do well to get closer to land, away from the soon to be tumultuous open waters. He was sure his captain would give further orders to the crew, but Ichiro did his part to coordinate efforts, “Batten down the hatches! This might be a rough one” he declared, as men set to ensuring everything was well secured and put away, popping open one of the barrels secured to one of the main masts Ichiro tossed in his mug and several other loose objects in the area before tightening the lid back on. The last thing they needed was barrels and other objects rolling around on deck and knocking men overboard. Once that was done, he moved to the rail, looking out over the waters as a streak of lightning coursed through the air, illuminating the night sky for a few brief moments, even with the fog still rolling in. Out on the water, Ichiro spotted something unusual and likely Umiko would see it as well, a glowing blue light, small and approaching but illuminated further for that moment to reveal a muscular white-haired man walking along the surface of the water, close to their ship. “Captain! We’ve got a shinobi out here. Starboard, 20 meters!” he called back, though with the push of the waves and the slow rowing of the ship that distance would be closed quickly unless there was a swift change in course and a great deal more effort put into rowing.

There wouldn’t be any time for that though as no sooner than Ichiro turned to speak, did he notice the feeling of water dripping down on him and the motion of something moving above him. The man had leapt clear over his head from a considerable distance. Pivoting swiftly, he moved in a careful circle, electricity gathering around the fingers of his left hand as he shifted into a stance with his right leg forward as his right hand gripped the sword at his left hip. The man seemed relatively nonthreatening, despite the unexpected appearance though Ichiro got the sense he had to be quite strong to be out on the open waters alone like that. “Captain?” he inquired, waiting for instruction, the slightest indication from Kaisui and he would fire an arc of powerful electricity at the shinobi’s chest, enough to paralyze whatever it touched.

Umiko was following Ichiro till he stopped cause of the worsening weather. She huffed as he order her about. Normally she'd give him an earful of attitude along the lines of how she is queen of the ship and that everyone must follow her orders. Unfortunately now didn't seem like a good time so huffing she made her way towards the mast... Or rather she would've had she not been blocked by several burly men attempting to secure the sails.

"Oi move your asses! Make way for the queen!"

Mean while Kaisui was taking Control of the helm in a hard turn to port. There was an Island relatively close by if he remembered his charts right... Might be best to ground the ship and wait out the storm. But they'd have to race against the storm to get there first and the odds were clearly against them. Nope no time.

"Less sails! Tie down the cargo! And for the love of Ryūjin do not fall overboard!"

He bellowed out to the crew, his deep voice competing with the thunder as if shouting against the heavens. The wind began to pick up stealing away his cap and he swore. When he saw Umiko climbing up the mast his heart tightened. He hadn't seen any lightning just yet but he'd heard it certainly.

"Umiko get down! You wont be able to see anything from up there in this weather!"

As he was shouting he heard Ichiro's call of the shinobi. Just what he needed in a time like this. He prepared to make salt clones until he saw him. Like a blast from the past, the half naked man he feared and yet strived for was on his ship. Again. He hurried to warn Ichiro not to attack. If that man was pissed off not even he'd likely survive.

"Ichiro stand down I know him. Piss him off we all die. Long time no see Lord Boneyparts. I hope Kiri has been treating you well."

As he moved, clearing deck and setting lamp covers, his hulking body pulling and pushing to help the men get the ship under control before it was too late, he heard Ichiro's call. Shinobi?

His entire body spun on his heel as he dropped a barrel down beside him with a loud smack against the wooden frame. Shinobi was still such a foreign word, such a strange concept to him. Unbeknownst to him, he had dealt with plenty of them when he was being supervised in the laboratory. To Crabman, his only experiences with shinobi had been with Nikuya, the odd samurai from Konoha and Yoru, another Leaf shinobi. Both of them capable of otherworldly feats and spells, almost akin to magic. Ichiro himself had some shinobi skills, as well as Kaisui. Even then, they could perform a few tricks with Water and Lightning. A true shinobi, however, in his mind that kind of being could shape the world itself to whatever they desired.

He was only on his third step towards Ichiro's side when a blur floated well above them. Swift and with the grace of a feather, whatever it was landed on their deck, seawater and sweat dripping from their body. It was a man. An odd one at that. His skin was pale as whale bone, much like his hair. He wasn't tall, at least not compared to himself and Kaisui, and he didn't have their burly physiques. However, his muscle stretched across his frame tightly, almost inhumanly so. To a martial arts expert, it would be evident that the man carried more power in his pinky finger than their entire crew in their whole bodies.

Of course, Crabman was not a martial arts expert, a military man or even that knowledgeable in normal human anatomy. As such, to him the man just looked like a short, slender ghost that had landed on their deck and proceeded to ask for permission. Even to Crabman's less than stellar social skills, this seemed counter-intuitive and overall extremely confusing.

Yes, he had heard Kaisui's warning and greeting, of course, he had heard Ichiro's hesitation and indeed he was witnessing the rest of the crew's inability to do anything other than stand still. The problem was, Crabman was a half crab half human abomination of nature with the tact of a ten year old and he was incredibly bloody confused.

As such, he dealt with this situation as he had dealt with many other strange greetings. He picked up a coin and he threw it at the man, letting some bubbles out of his mouth as he did so.

Well it wasn't a friendly ship he found himself on, that much became apparent quickly enough. After he announced himself some part of the crew behind him took up a stance and got ready to... electrocute him, of all things. The soaking wet bannin turned his head and looked over his shoulder at the sound of electricity which was oh so unforgettable even if it had been a long while since he heard it. That meant that whoever was behind him (of course he couldn't recognize him, even if he could have he likely wouldn't) had some training with ninjutsu at the very least which was interesting. Was this a ship that had hired Kiri ninja? He didn't really have the time to fully consider this possibility before it was squashed out of existence by the calling of the captain of the ship, Kaisui.

The tall mans' words turned his gaze towards the helm of the ship and the man himself, Kaisui, who... Aimi didn't recognize either. At least not at first. Their encounter had been ultimately brief and the mission had been so very, very frustrating that the memory of the tall fish man refused to recall itself. He narrowed his eyes. Had he just called him... 'Boneyparts'? And he mentioned Kirigakure, so obviously he did know him. That's when it clicked and all of the memories of that stupidly infuriating mission between him, the captain and that ninja from Kumo came back to him. "Oh, it's you! This is your ship, huh? I think I remember you saying you wanted a ship..." he said slowly, beginning to suspect that this was going to be an equally frustrating venture when all he wanted was some shelter from the rain!

In a flash of pale he was behind Ichiro, his left leg extended forward between the parted legs of the seafaring swordsman and forcefully kicking against his left leg to knock him off balance while his left hand darted down and wrapped itself around the hand of the larger man, squeezing tight enough to hurt but not enough to break anything as a way to let him know that he wasn't going to be drawing his sword so long as he held on to it. His right hand reached up and around to hover over the mans' neck as he channeled chakra and ignited his hand in ghostly blue flames. They were harmless, really and truly, but no one else needed to know that now did they? "Best to listen to your captain now. I didn't come here for a fight but if you really insist..." he threatened vaguely.

And that's when the coin hit his cheek.

Coming flying from across the deck of the ship the metal disc collided with the bannin's left cheek and caused him to flinch - more out of confusion than anything else. He turned his head to look where the coin had come from without moving either of his hands and that's when he saw him - the crab-man, that crustacean abomination. The sight of that lobster headed humanoid brought his brows together and made his head tilt in confusion. The Kaguya was quite frankly flabbergasted and didn't quite know how to process what he was seeing. Was this some kind of transformation jutsu? A spirit maybe? Some unknown kekkei genkai? "What is that?" he asked in sheer bewilderment before removing his hand away from the swordsmans' and his flaming hand away from his throat, closing his fist and flitting over across the deck to get right in the face of that bubble blowing curiosity that his attention was now fixated on.

"What the FUCK is that!?" he blurted out as if the existence of this lobster man thing offended him so rather than intrigued him.

Katon • Foxfire
D-Rank Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: Katon • Ghost-Light
The user makes the handseals and gathers chakra in their hand, igniting it in a cool, dull flame that lines the palms of their hand. The user can then wipe their hand across a surface, such as stone, wood, or the earth, and leave a smear of fire that burns continuously with the users' chakra acting as an adhesive on the surface. The user could also write messages or draw pictures even – any form of written communication is possible. These flames are cool to the touch, being exactly normal body temperature. The chakra imbued in the flames lasts for up to 5 posts before burning away completely and the flame fading.

Ichiro watched the intruder carefully. He had a healthy distrust of shinobi but he also actively sought powerful instructors. Though in this situation his only thought was of protecting the crew and their ship, while crabman and the captain were the most physically imposing individuals on the ship and skilled fighters in their own right, there was nobody as skilled or as fast and precise with a blade as Ichiro. Even his ninjutsu was more powerful than the captains, but he wasn’t a leader, not yet anyway. He had a lot more growing to do in order to learn how to win over others with charisma. The young man specialized in medical knowledge, even using it to incapacitate his opponents, often coupled with a touch of Raiton. Therefore, he was surprised when the captain ordered him to stand down, certainly the man seemed strong, he could tell as much by his perfectly sculpted muscles and the confidence with which he carried himself. The sword too was well cared for though evidently heavily used, he could see that much as he analyzed the man, from a few meters behind him and slightly to the left. But it was the fact that the captain knew him that was really interesting, and further the mention that this man hailed form Kirigakure, the village of shinobi they had been going to great lengths to avoid. Of course, Ichiro had heard the captains, tale of the shinobi he had ran into trouble with while Ichiro and Umiko set on ahead while Kaisui drew off their pursuers.

As instructed the blue crackling lightning dissipated from his fingers and his stance relaxed only slightly, his hand still gently caressing the grip of his sword at his hip, the other moving to rest on the scabbard, his thumb on the guard. Ichiro had started his journey as a samurai in the art of Yoshin, born and raised in Waterfall Country and studying at a local dojo from a young age. And though he had become enthralled in the shinobi arts, pursuing knowledge and new jutsu with an unquenchable passion he still felt most comfortable with a sword in hand. He could see every possible weak point in the shirtless man’s body, every vein and nerve cluster that could be targeted despite the well-trained muscle and remarkably dense bones. His icy blue eyes belied his incredible depth of knowledge and attentiveness, and as the man though he was not nearly perceptive enough and versed with high-speed movement to track the man as he vanished in a spray of water. Before he could react he knocked on his ass, his sword had gripped firmly and blue fire manifested next to his neck. If he had maintained the lightning around his left hand it would have easily been able to make an attempt at a counter, though given the display of tremendous speed even his lightning in this close proximity would likely not strike true.

The lithe 18-year-old groaned in annoyance, the Kaguya was about the same height as him but considerably heavier and more muscular compared to Ichiro’s lean and moderately defined build. He couldn’t form handseals like this or draw his sword and if he were to channel chakra he would build up visible chakra and give away an attack. His left hand was still free and he had a few knives hidden along his person that were accessible but it would be futile. He hadn’t thought he had been particularly hostile after dispersing the lightning though perhaps his wariness and assessing gaze and slightly readied stance was yet enough provocation. “No, we don’t need to fight.” He confirmed. Ichiro smirked and stifled a chuckle at Aimi’s reaction to crabman. That was the type of thing he usually relied on to give him an edge in combat though truly he had no desire to fight the Kiri shinobi. “Ah, yeah that’s our friend crabman or Kani-san as some call him” he stated hesitantly, watching the man warily and slowly moving to stand up and take a few steps back, being sure to keep his hands clear away from his various weapons this time around. He looked up to the captain, running his hands through his shaggy black hair and sighing slightly in relief, giving the large man a bemused shake of the head at his own expense. He certainly hadn’t been kidding about the man being easy to provoke and also extremely deadly.

To be honest Kaisui felt a little insulted. Aimi's response and reaction to seeing Kani-san for most would be relatively normal. However, when Aimi first saw his transformation in to full blown fish man his reaction hadn't been nearly as strong. Perhaps he was hungry? Kaisui couldn't lie and say he'd never considered cooking Kani-san but the work required for such an endeavor was certainly not worth it.

As Kaisui was trying to wrap his head around the chances of running into Aimi in such a manner, a loud groan came from the ship. And despite the waves the ship seemed to have stopped moving entirely. It was an unnatural feeling for a man that spent his life upon the constant motion of the ocean.

"Aimi please tell me this is your doing ..."

He looked towards the man despite full well knowing the answer. What ever made them stop was big. Very big. This didn't seeming like ninjutsu as the elements around them were still furious from the storm above. Umiko fearless as she was had directly approached Lord Boneyparts. She glanced from him to her staff's carved skull head quietly comparing the two.

"Prepare to be boarded! Grab the spears! Be it man or beast of the sea we're under attack!"

Not long after a thick slimy tentacle could be seen snaking its way over the rail...

Tensions were beginning to lighten on the ship rapidly after that initial coin to the chiseled cheek had slapped against the Kaguya. Transfixed by this so called 'crabman' before him he gaped openly and turned away only when a name was given to the creature. "Kani-san? Crabman?" the ninja scoffed to the swordsman stranger, turning back to the peculiar anomaly in front of him and tilting his head from side to side, his mouth pulled into a slight frown of consideration. "I suppose that's fitting."

More catching up and introductions would have followed had fate not intervened. A groaning of a ship was nothing to be concerned about in the ninjas' mind. Ships groaned. It was as simple a fact as them sailing as far as he knew. It took a more experienced ear to know when it was just the creaking of boards and when it was the application of external pressure. Thus he turned not towards the waves but to the little girl who approached him without fear and looked at him inquisitively while he did the same to her - all the while keeping the crab person in the corner of his eye because damn, just look at that thing! "I like your staff, little one," he complimented. "Who are you supposed to -"

He was cut short by Kaisui asking if something or another was his doing. The weather? He wasn't sure but whatever it was he wasn't doing it. He was just standing there, between a crab and a girl and trying to have a conversation with people he didn't know on a ship he had crashed to seek shelter from the storm. Pedestrian stuff really. So as he looked up to the tall fugitive with a furrow in his brow Aimi shrugged his shoulders, simply asking, "Doing what?"

Then Kaisui began shouting, taking command of the situation as the captain of a ship should do and trying to quickly muster those on board to action against a danger he had apparently sensed. Aimi thought it odd - perplexing, even ludacris - that there should be something to be concerned about on top of his arrival. What were the odds even? So it was with casual, slothful apathy that he turned around towards the rail, expecting nothing and no one besides himself to be out on the sea during this weather, and spotted the tentacle beginning to snake its' way on board.

"Oh," he proclaimed with numb surprise. It hadn't really occurred to him when practicing on the waves but yes, indeed, there were monstrous creatures living out in the deep that could come up at any moment who happened to like stormy weather. As he stared at the slippery green appendage he even went so far as to surmise that he might have done something to rouse this beast, what with all of his thunderous, earth shaking, water quaking taijutsu he'd been preforming in complete isolation. As he awkwardly stared on it even occurred to him that, if one such beast were so inclined, he could have been attacked while standing on the water! The thought had honestly never crossed his mind.

While the others were springing to action undoubtedly he... continued to stand there. Weighing his options so to speak. The problem was that Aimi was tired. Bone tired. More tired than the rest of these lot were probably capable of being relatively speaking. He'd spent the last few hours putting in so much tremendous effort into the output of his body that he was, frankly, nearly depleted of both chakra and physical energy. The showy bit of katon ninjutsu early had been as next to nothing as he could muster and flitting around the deck was equally as nonchalant... but that tentacle was rather large. Performing even some of his more tame taijutsu or ninjutsu was... well next to impossible right now.

He was going to have to go at this old school.

Realizing this the Kaguya reached down and slowly drew his longsword from its' sheath, holding it out to his side and reaching across his body with his left hand to grab a hold of the hilt of the blade. "Hello, beastie," he said quietly as a sort of battle cry before dashing forward with tremendous speed and swinging wide, slashing at the tentacle as it rose up with as much might as he could muster (which wasn't much in comparison to what he could do when fresh!) This was going to be a challenge, even for him.

As always, Ichiro watched both his captain and his surroundings frequently, rarely ever letting himself get consumed in any one thing for more than a few minutes before checking in with his surroundings. The exception perhaps might be on the rare occasions he got truly drunk or when he found a particularly engrossing book or scroll to consume himself in. He noticed the captain's concern and doubled his own alertness in response, feeling that something indeed was amiss. The crew began to run around preparing for a possible attack, Ichiro couldn’t see any sign of another vessel, though certainly the storm seemed a threat and it was possible they were about to experience more turbulent waters or perhaps they had found themselves caught up in the path of a pod of whales. They would usually do no more than bump the ship a few times though it could be enough to spring a leak that had been known to sink the rare vessel, though mostly such stories were something told over a half dozen mugs of ale.

What he saw next however was even harder to believe. The type of superstition that many talked about, but few actually believed. Some kind of giant squid or Kraken? One of the infamous tentacled sea monsters that all sailors knew the legend of, but none were truly believed when they spoke of encountering such things, less it be some sort of encounter with a shinobi and their spirit companions. His icy blue eyes widened in fright, he had thought he had accepted fear and danger in his life and learned to accept the things he couldn’t control, such was the life of a sailor. But this was beyond anyone’s expectations. “..Is that?” he breathed in disbelief. His gaze shifted to his captain and the white-haired man. He found strength and confidence in their resolve, especially the newcomer who seemed as relaxed as if a small fish had jumped aboard. Though it was highly likely it was simply shock, though some part of Ichiro told him to heed his captain’s words, that this man truly was strong. Despite his faith in the boneman’s strength it was apparent he was exhausted, whatever he saw from him would be less than his typical performance.

That meant it was entirely likely Ichiro would be needed, that his role to play would be an important one. He knew he was considered strong and capable when it came to fighting the average sailor or even most bodyguards and mercenaries but he had never experienced a monster like this before. He would have to go all out and push himself to utilize his strongest techniques. Something he had been working on in order to protect the ship in the event they came under attack from another vessel or even a fleet. He wasn’t quite sure if he could pull it off, but his chakra reserves and control had been growing more impressive every month as his training continued. He knew the fundamentals of the technique and that he could get the shape and execution right, he had done as much before. It was the scale needed to protect the entire ship that he had never managed to perfect.

As Aimi drew his sword, the raven-haired first mate began a sequence of handseals. His chakra flared to life, it was time to display his power and the vast potential the young man had. He was no shinobi, not truly but he had learned under some of the best and now had the tools at his disposal to grow his own strength, only his own effort and imagination limited him now. He was amazed at the burst of speed from the man, dashing across the relatively large ship with seeming ease despite his fatigue. There was no question he was faster than Ichiro was, and he prided himself on being swift with his strikes and being able to quickly retreat out of a bad situation. He wasn’t sure how many tentacles this creature had, how strong or durable they each were or the full size of the beast, though he did know that he wanted to slow it down, provide a deterrent and possible defense while Aimi surely would hack away at any slimy protrusion dare surface from the turbulent depths.

Once he was finished with his seals Ichiro raised a hand to the air as his chakra converted to the ration nature and electricity converged in a sphere above his hand. The blue lightning crackled aggressively, flickering against the stormy skies as it rose into the air, firing up at 25 speed before hovering 15 meters into the air and then shooting bolts outward that spread and joined together, creating a massive barrier, in a 40-meter radius around the orb that hovered directly in line with Ichiro above him and would move to keep centered around his position. It took a lot of chakra to make it large enough to surround the entire ship, giving about 10 meters of clearance on either side lengthwise and considerably more room to either side while also covering well above the masts. If the creature was as large as it seemed it would have difficulty springing up within the dome without getting zapped and with the ship and the dome moving along with it if the creature didn’t match pace it would be zapped even if it did emerge within the dome initially.

Ichiro breathed slowly, that was probably the most chakra he had ever used at one time and while he still had a decent amount left in his reserves, he needed a few moments to adjust and properly catch his breath. “That lightning’s not strong enough to kill outright, but it should be enough to paralyze anything it touches!” he called out. The layers of crackling blue electricity were both thunderously loud and difficult to see through. If they weren’t on open water he would be worried about them crashing into land or other obstacles but in this situation they were desperate and it was worth the risk of drifting off course and losing their bearings somewhat if it meant keeping the ship afloat and driving back this monster.

The user will first perform the correct hand seals before releasing a basketball sized orb of lightning 15m into the air. The orb will then cascade sheets of lightning down in the shape of a dome over the caster, with a 40m radius. This dome, apart from being exceptionally loud, forms a sort of protection against attacks. It comes into being at [25] speed and is able to redirect hits of up to [25] strength in a downward direction. These sheets of lightning also serve as a visual obscurity. This technique lasts for up to 3 posts depending on the user's discretion.
