[Grass 4]From Grass to Dust and Dew

Post by Ace Trainer » Fri Jun 26, 2020 5:48 pm

The sun was beginning to drop, and Kozaki stood with his arms crossed, looking across the fortifications that Iwamaru had set up for them. From Kozaki’s understanding, Iwamaru was somewhere among them, moving towards the areas that were weakest, and preparing to take out any of the bandits that chose to flank from the weak spots by surprise. It wasn’t an ideal situation, two shinobi against a literal battalion of bandits. But, they’d make do with what they had. Iwamaru still had Kozaki’s samsara in his chest, Kozaki could taste Iwamaru’s chakra on his tongue. That was good, if he needed to support Iwamaru at all he could.

The two black bracers usually wrapped around Kozaki’s arms wear moving like fluid down his left arm. It had formed a staff that he was holding, but the excess flowed and ebbed around his forearm, expressing Kozaki’s impatience. Like saucers, his bright yellow eyes stared at the horizon unerring. Waiting for….something. And then he heard it. The soft sound of hooves. Horses. It quickly became louder and louder.

He knew Iwamaru couldn’t hear him, but he couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear, ”Hope you’re ready rock man.”, he muttered under his breath. Kozaki jumped on top of the building directly behind him, spreadhing his arms out wide. Practically salivating as he looked at the crowd of bandits rushing towards this tiny village. Somewhere in this flood of people was two shinobi and a bandit king. He scanned the ocean of people trying to find them but recognized he’d likely be unsuccessful in doing so. They’d make themselves known one way or another. ”LETS GOOOOO”, he bellowed.

The war was here.

[Grass 4]From Grass to Dust and Dew

Maru had prepared meticulously for this battle. The villagers had created rudimentary fortifications, spiked logs that would prevent calvary from approaching the rear of the village. As the village had only rudimentary timber walls, having those fortifications to funnel the enemies into their kill-zone was vital. Those spiked logs were primitive but effective. Any forces foolish enough to try and dismount and navigate through the large spiked timbers would find themselves easy pickings for Kozaki. Meanwhile, Maru, with his connection to Kozaki's Samsara, would face the main bulk of the forces in the front, which would be funneled. Though there would be some terrain-based traps set at the front as well, Maru made certain to make them light. Should they try to turtle completely, the enemy would be more likely to retreat and mitigate losses, turning this into a battle of attrition.

That could not happen. Even with his considerable physical strength and endurance, the two of them would be outmatched in a long-term siege.

The bandits were not as foolish as their rearguard had seemed. Aware of the spikes, approximately twenty of the raiders dismounted mid-stride and sprinted towards the gaps in the spiked log traps. Meanwhile, the rest of the raiders began to circle around the circumference of the village. The weakened earth around the village was slowing their progress, the horses having to exert more force to pull their hoves from the crumbling dirt.

Opting to remain within the bounds of the village, Maru sprinted as quickly as he could toward the open gateway of the village. Another fourteen raiders, seven to each side, dismounted and rushed toward the log spikes on the village's east and west sides. Pulling a kunai from his pack, Maru threw the kunai at the central patch of weakened earth. Culling a third of them was about all they could ask for before having to confront them directly at the village's gate to the south. His full might transferred into the kunai, the projectile sunk into the dirt.

The earth screamed in reply. In a quickly detonating wave, massive amounts of dirt, rock, and stone exploded from beneath the raider's feet, and while the raiders that hadn't dismounted were quick to respond and just barely avoid serious damage, those that had committed themselves to the assaults toward the flanks were doomed before they even knew it. Maru's Strength was impressive even for a jounin, and that full force was transferred into the earth which he called his ally. One moment, their faces were twisted and contorted in rage and violence. The next, they soared through the sky, their eviscerated bodies mercifully hidden from view amidst the columns of dirt, faces frozen with the blank stare of death as their desecrated corpses fell back into the earth's embrace.

Maru didn't wait to see the results. The battle was not over. Weaving a set of seals, Maru set a series of walls. For each wall, Maru put his primary focus into the Strength of the walls (50 Control), sacrificing the natural speed at which they would be produced (10 Speed). He would compensate by physically pulling the walls up from the ground after casting the jutsu (40 Strength). The first was set just behind the spiked logs, essentially sealing off the entrance to the village. The next three walls, all lined with deadly spikes on the front, were similarly constructed (same Strength, same method of production, same Speed). They were set up staggered evenly, the final wall stopping right at the end of the log spike. Maru stood behind it, preparing for the horde to inevitably regroup and charge.

Doton • Stalwart Barricade
C-Rank Ninjutsu
After making the needed seals, Iwamaru channels his chakra into the earth, causing a semi-circular wall of rock to erupt from the ground anywhere within 25 meters of his position. This wall emerges from the ground with a Speed and has a Strength equal to Iwamaru's Control unless otherwise stated. If Iwamaru physically pulls the wall out of the ground during the technique's execution, it will instead form at a Speed equal to his Strength. This semi-circular wall is 5 meters high x 5 meters long x 3 meters thick and covers a 180-degree radius.

Doton • Wall of Pain x3
C-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the needed seals, Iwamaru forms a spiked wall from the ground within 25 meters of his position. This wall forms at a Speed and has a Strength equal to Iwamaru's Control unless otherwise stated. If Iwamaru physically pulls this wall from the ground, it will instead form at a Speed equal to his Strength. The wall measures 5 meters high x 5 meters long x 3 meters thick and the spikes that cover the front of the wall are each 1 meter long with the same Strength as the wall. If Iwamaru strikes this wall with a Strength of 10 or higher, the spikes will break off of the wall and be launched at opponents a number of meters away equal to his Strength at a Speed equal to Iwamaru’s Strength. Conversely, Iwamaru can push this wall with a Strength of 10 or higher to launch the entire wall forward a number of meters away equal to his Strength at a Speed equal to Iwamaru’s Strength.
