Waterfall Country was no stranger to battle. Nestled between two Great Nations that were far from allies, the nation had been the site of many skirmishes and confrontations between shinobi and merchants alike. It could, at times, be a dangerous place to do business. One merchant found this out the hard way. He was a procurer of weapons and dangerous animals, and when he came across a sleek sword in a black market, he couldn't resist bartering for it. When the burly owner refused, the merchant took matters in his own hands and stole it.

This was, of course, a mistake. He was hunted down and slaughtered by the black market boss's cronies, but in their blood lust they focused on the kill rather than the loot, and the sword was left behind. It was nestled in a wide open field of tall grass, the blood splatters long washed away by rain, and vines and moss had grown around it and nearly concealed it. But it was still visible at times, gleaming in the sunlight.

It was here our young hero would come across it. He was lucky to come across it in such a benign manner. If his luck continued, he would be able to simply pick it up and be on his way.
