You're Too Tall

Post by Trubbishguy » Thu Jul 09, 2020 9:55 pm

It was an average day in the Land of Fountains. The farmers were harvesting their crops. The wild fauna move in whichever way they please, still owning much of the land even as the people use it to live on and feed themselves. The trees trapped the heat in, putting anyone who hasn't grown up in the rough jungles in a bit of Hell as they pass through. And Michi was getting insulted and berated for being a monster. Everything was normal.

The tall boy, standing at an impressive seven foot height despite only being eight years of age, was surrounded by other children his age (but who were much, much smaller). While the crowd harassing him was large, there was one who commanded them as their leader. Whatever cruel nickname he gave, it stuck. Whoever he said wasn't cool, wasn't. And whatever he wanted to do or say to Michi, he could. Ijimeko was the ruiner of Michi's life.

"You're so tall!" He laughed, not being the most clever with words. Not all those who were charismatic had impressive linguistic skills, but were instead potent to deliver. The way that Ijimeko did it was toxic. He spoke with both passion and hatred. "Get shorter, Tall Freak!"

As was the usual, the pink-haired giant had dirt thrown in his face from the group of smaller, wicked children. He'd been on a walk. Michi found a sort of friendship in the plants and animals around him that substituted in for the angry kids who called him a freak. There was peace in watching the frogs leap and the deer play.

There was none right now, and he felt himself getting frustrated as he tried desperately to continue his walk.

Shio had just finished in Muda, the small boy he’d found there, Kesu, following behind him quietly. This village, according to Akemi who had been dismissed and sent to spread his word to other villages, was the last he’d need to see in order to assert his dominance over The Land of Fountains. He couldn’t help but smile at the idea, their new god had arrived.

”Kesu.”, he said to the blonde haired child, ”This village will not be like yours. We’re going to put on a show for these people, and they’ll recognize your power as a gift, not a curse.”, he instructed. Kesu frowned at this, but nodded, it was obvious he had some doubts but he dared not say any of them.

As they entered the small village, he indicated for Kesu to stay close, walking towards the centermost point of the village, not far off from the children that were bullying a pink haired giant. His eyes thinned, noticing them but not acknowledging them. It appeared there was another gifted child here. One of the buildings facing the square was slightly lower than the others, so Shio gestured towards it and leapt upwards, landing on its edge and gesturing for Kesu to follow him up, who simply floated through the air to Shio’s side.

”My name is Mistaki, Shio.”, he called out. His voice rolled through the village as a low hum, spoken into the ears over everyone in it as if he was mere feet from them.”Come out and witness your new gods.”, he commanded. Slowly a crowd would form, everyone in the village wandering from their homes and fields to gather in the area of the town below him. His eyes moved towards the children bullying the pink haired child, they’d become of particular interest to him.

The children started to pick up stones. It didn’t surprise Michi, but it sure would suck. He’d began to raise his arms in order to protect himself as best he could. Being so large had its pros and cons. When it came to these moments, his giant hands could cover a lot of area. Of course, the downside was that there was far more body to cover. He was vulnerable. Ijimeko swung his arm back, ready to begin the rain of torture down upon Michi. Just before the first pebble flew, an odd sensation swept over everyone. Hairs stood up as a low boom hit the children’s ears, sending shivers down their backs.

“My name is Mistaki, Shio. Come out and witness your new gods.”

There was a silence. People began exiting their homes in order to see what the commotion was about. Seeing nothing right away, Ijimeko shrugged his shoulders and threw a pebble. Some of the children would join in, though a few saw the approaching figures.

Shio waited as the people wandered out, his arms crossed. Standing on top of the building looking down the boy looked larger than he really was, though not by much. His eyes seemed to be locked on the giant child, Michi, that was surrounded by others. When the boy, the apparent leader, threw a pebble at the pink haired mammoth, Shio’s eyes thinned.

He allowed the crowd to form, then spoke. His voice rolled like thunder, loud, ”The town of Muda is no more. Every person in that sinners den has died at my hands. This boy can act as a testament to my words.”, he gestured towards Kesu, who nodded in affirmation but said nothing else. ”I am a god, the voice of the universe, sent to this land to right it from it’s evil ways and teach you all the way of my people.”

He took a step forward, off the side of the roof. His body would vanish as he suddenly appeared among them in the crowd, ”Your old gods are gone. You pray to me now. Your gods hid in their stories and in the skies. Never gracing you with their faces. I stand before you now. I am who you worship now.”, the thunder came to a halt as Shio moved through the crowd, people dropping to their knees as he passed them.

”You are all sinners, and I bring you light. You stand by while this child is bullied and say nothing.”, he vanished through the crowd again, suddenly appearing behind the boy who had been bullying Michi. They were of the same age, but Shio, Shio was a god to them. He took the boys arm, holding it in place, ”Should I treat this town as Muda?”, he asked the boy.

Kesu would also take a step off the side of the roof. His body practically floating down to the ground in front of all these people as he approached Michi, ”come, you’ve been chosen it seems.”, Kesu said under a hushed town to the boy.

You're Too Tall

There was a strange silence. Michi was trying to calm his body down. He'd been in a bit of an adrenaline rush at the threat of the stones, though everything stopped when this... divinity had appeared. The way they spoke, the way they moved, it was nothing like he'd ever seen before. Every word was spoken directly into his ears, and from the expressions frozen on the faces of those around him, Michi figured it was the same for everyone else.

The Divinity began to give a speech, addressing how they’d apparently taken out the town Muda. Was that possible? Could this boy and his accomplice really be strong enough to destroy all of Muda? Then again, he also clearly had a special gift. His speech wasn’t so much of a low roll this time, as much as it was a boom. Some, Michi included, put their hands to their ears in an attempt to drown out some of the sound.

Then, the Divinity vanished and popped up behind Ijimeko. Michi wanted to do something, but before the giant pink-haired boy could, he found another child-looking person come up to him and usher him on.

Kesu guided Michi away from the crowd, silent as he walked along, his feet never actually contacting the ground though he went through the gestured. After they were a fair distance from the crowd, Kesu turned to the giant boy. There was no emotion on his face, stoic and calm as he had likely been directed to be by Shio. ”Are you okay?”, he asked. Though it didn’t seem he was actually interested in the answer, as he soon continued on. ”It appears Lord Shio has chosen you. Based on your very clear gift, it should be no surprise.”, he gestured towards Michi, clearly indicating his size. ”Lord Shio is not a kidnapper. You are not forced to come with him. But he can teach you how to use your strength. How to control it. And he will keep you safe. He is the Voice. Of Hope. Of Reason. Of Truth. Lord Shio is seeking out people, like us, to show them true power.”, he turned to look back towards the crowd, still being hypnotized by Shio’s voice as he lectured them.

”It is up to you. Do you want to be followers like them? Powerless, and fearful? Or are you ready to speak?”, it seemed that despite only being with Shio a short amount of time, Kesu had quickly learned to understand what Shio’s mission was. It was likely the nature of his pen that could imbue endless amounts of knowledge into it’s art.
Shio stood among the crowd, he’d been silent as Michi had been ushered away, then released the boy – Ijimeko – from his grasp with a push, likely causing him to topple to the ground.

”It is no surprise that the weak would assault those with power.”, his eyes turned to Ijimeko, glaring, before beginning to walk away from the boy, ”And even less surprising that those who lack piety would be unable to use their voice. But in your voice is power, follow me. And perhaps one day you will learn to use it.”, Shio moved towards the center of the crowd.

BOW

It was as if lightning itself had struck, his voice booming through the area. Anyone left standing would fall to their knees, if they hadn’t decided to worship him yet, that almost certainly did it.

”The town to the east, Chiyo.”, his voice had calmed now, back to a soft lull that wafted over the kneeling people, ”I have sent my chosen Priestess, Akemi. She is one of your people. She is not a foreign ruler, an outsider, but one of your own. She has been named the Voice of Kindness. You will send two people to her, to be taught under her. She will send one back with our book. You will create copies to keep in your homes. You will follow my word. Live by her voice. You will offer your strongest to protect her. Fountain will be elevated from a land of farms and weak voices to a great land.”

He turned in a circle slowly, looking at many of the people who were peering up from their bows to match eyes with him.

At the same time, Kesu would lock eyes with Michi.

”What will you choose?”
”What will you choose?”
