[Legends] The Annexation of Plains and Sea

During the early days of the Great War, Aimi Kaguya was travelling through the land of Plains and Sea. He travelled from small village to small village on the northern outskirts of the country, meeting with the Kinoko people. These strange, mushroom growing people fascinated him, and he took pity on their weakness. Bullied and treated as an easy resource to repeatedly harvest by the raiders of Plains and Sea, the Kinoko could do little to defend themselves for they had no training and many did not believe in violence as the answer.

Making the decision to stay and help these people, Aimi Kaguya began to unite the small families and villages one by one, encouraging a great migration of Kinoko the likes of which had not been seen in many decades. He spoke to the elders of the clan, telling them of where he was from and the cruelties he was familiar with. He told them that if they did not stand now that they would forever be walked upon until there was nothing left of them, their people, their way of life. He offered to train these people in the art of chakra, ninjutsu, taijutsu and genjutsu, so that they might stand for themselves. After much deliberation, they agreed.

Aimi Kaguya, knowing that this action would not be looked favorably on by the rest of Kirigakure, silently renounced his allegiance to the Bloody Mist after a long time considering all he had encountered. He vowed to help these people and knew of only one way to do so; fighting. Over the coming days he would train those who were willing to learn, honing their bodies, increasing their strengths, teaching them of chakra and how to utilize their unique bodies to defend themselves. There were not many who were eager to learn but the few students he had he cherished and taught them as much as he could in as little time as possible.

Unbeknownst to the bannin, the world outside was beginning to engulf itself in the flames of war. When news reached him of the goings on outside, he knew that he had to act. Taking his best students, Aimi Kaguya lead them through grasslands and to the city on the lake, Ulvengrad, where he spearheaded a small invasion force into the capital to see the Ezhuahuacatl, the leader of this warrior nation. Unaccustomed to the Kinoko fighting back and the strange ways in which Aimi had taught them, the small force was effective at cutting a path through the city, though they were outnumbered and could not hold the offensive for long.

Drawn out by the excitement, the Ezhuahuacatl confronted Aimi Kaguya and his band of Kinoko. "Why have you come to your death in my city?" the Ezhuahuacatl demanded.

"I come to offer life!" Aimi Kaguya proclaimed. For a time the fighting stopped as the bannin from a far away land and the Ezhuahuacatl spoke with one another. Aimi urged the king-like figure to heed his words and use his strength, for a war was breaking out over the entire world and if they did not stand with him, they may be swallowed whole by the likes of Kirigakure, Konohagakure, and the other villages he named. He offered the same treatment he had given the Kinoko - training, chakra knowledge, and improved lot in life and more, servitude, in exchange for being allowed to found a village in their land in which to teach his shinobi arts.

Impressed by the Kaguyas' display of strength and ferocity, the Ezhuahuacatl listened but was ultimately unpersuaded. "We have always defended our own and our way of life! From samurai! From shinobi! And from those outside of our borders! We do not need you!" the Ezhuahuacatl declared, but as a show of respect for his efforts and how few had been killed or injured, the Ezhuahuacatl gave Aimi Kaguya and his Kinoko forces clemency to leave the city. The bannin accepted this clemency and quietly left the city behind him, vanishing into the grass.

This was not the end, however, only the beginning, for Aimi Kaguya knew that a war between the five great nations and more would not be contained and would not end overnight. Believing that the Ezhuahuacatl required more proof of the danger of the coming war, Aimi Kaguya left the land of Plains and Sea in search of conquest, telling his Kinoko students to return to their clan, to teach and to learn from each other, to grow and to stay hidden from as much as possible for as long as possible. He promised to return with an army large enough to convince the natives that his way was the only way to survive before taking flight, heading north for the Land of Dungeons.
