Spirit Hunters

The thing about scientists was most of them were pretty cool- but sometimes they were overly passionate. Sometimes those overly passionate ones also had their funding removed; especially when their experiments began to cross the borderline of what was... morally acceptable. Unfortunately, sometimes those passionate men and women who had everything they had slaved on for years ripped away from them... well, snapped. And sometimes, those who snapped were researching on spirits and had artificially created one by taking one harmless spirit and binding souls, chakra, and enough things to it to drive it crazy. And, that's why this morning in Whirlpool a giant fucking monster was destroying everything.

Said monster- more a chimera of sorts had just smacked another figure clear across the town and into a building- only for him to fall into the dusty road. As the dust cleared out it would reveal a small figure laid spread eagle on the ground, and opposite it, a massive beast similar to a giant monkey but with scales where the skin would be and claws like a lizard. It let out a roar as it beat its chest.

Shit shit shit.

The figure laying on the ground leaped back onto its feet. It was a man in his mid-twenties, his hair was long and his unkempt and unshaven appearance said anything but hero. Within moments smoke began to circulate around him as if it was wind, pushing off in large amounts as the ground around him cratered and the hum of intense energy, chakra, filled the air. The figure was a legendary bannin and Jinchuuriki of the Leaf Village. A war hero. A man who had fought many spirits and was closer to them than any other human was.

Less than five minutes in and already I'm being forced to enter that form.

The chakra around the man began to take mass ass if bones were forming around him, then flesh, finally completing the visage as he became a multiple stories-tall titan- something akin to a giant ghost or spirit. Wings that were a mix of smoke and leathery flesh sprouted out from his back.

"Yutaka, there's no reason we can't-" before he could even finish his line the beast had leapt forward swiping at his neck. His wings batted back as he attempted to leap onto the building behind him, however he was too slow to fully complete his move as the razor sharp claw ripped into his neck and he stumbled backwards.

Shocked, Taiga grabbed onto his neck and put his wings up defensively to shield himself from the furious pummels that came next.

Why can't-we phase his attacks.

Another voice joined his in tandem. Sukairaa.

Shit.

Five years had passed since The Great War begun, they had arrived on the other side and the landscape of the world had vastly changed and so had the two men hurtling towards the large beast. Yoru had served time in prison during the war and had now become the leader of Anbu taking on the rank of Commander and led the invasion of Dragon Country. Taiga was more mature and grizzled and was known as the Hero of Konoha stopping the seemingly unstoppable spirit that attacked the village all those years ago.

Now he was about to face another test and another beast, did Taiga have what it takes?

Taiga leaped into action and paid for it, having to rely on his transformation from the get go. This made Yoru instantly nervous, the beast was obviously powerful, but now Taiga was relying on his spirit and it meant that Yoru would have to preserve as much chakra as possible in case Taiga lost control. He was after all an expert in tenkujutsu, though even he wasn’t sure he’d be able to stop Taiga if things went too far.

He just had to hope they wouldn’t and back up Taiga as much as possible whilst preserving his chakra.

Commander Aizawa, Yoru Bannin of Konohagakure bolted forward, flinging himself from roof top to roof top “Be careful Taiga!” He yelled, his fingers moved to the windmill shuriken on his back, his quick hands wrapped a spool wire around it. Flinging the shuriken forward, ripping through the air towards the beast.

A mechanical ticking could be heard, as the windmill shuriken shot off four separate pieces, some directly towards the beast attempting to plunge deep into the beast as an anchor and the other pieces to wrap around the back, tightening up the steel wire attached to the pieces in an attempt to trap the beast at least to give Taiga enough time to attack it.

This was not good.

Taiga could feel warm blood pooling up around his hands. His neck was injured- given his fortitude among other things he wouldn't die, but it was an injury good enough to prevent him from really moving full force for at least a minute or too until regeneration among other things kicked in. Falling to his knees a top the building, his wings continued to wrap around him as he prepared to sink into the ground if the beast attacked him. In fact, he was planning on that. So long as he kept attention on himself the remaining members of his platoon would be able to carry out evac and set the field for a big rumble... but until that time, he needed to buy time.

"Hey- it's not that we don't want to support your research, we just really don't like all the towns people killing and spirit killing and all that stuff... so I guess we don't wan to support your research." Taiga screamed out.

Goading was a great way to get opponents to just do stupid things. Still clutching his neck deep inside the chakra construct that was Sukairaa around him, Taiga did his best to think of what he could do. As far as he could tell, he couldn't phase the Chimera for some reason. Unlike that beast of the forest, he did not have an easy way of taking him out. Whether or not Genjutsu would work was also quite... well, it wasn't looking good. He could feel a new presence in the town moving very fast atop the roofs.

So, Aizawa is here.

Just as the beast would attempt to lunge for Taiga, it's attention fully on him, Aizawa's attack would land with the shuriken and wire acting as an anchor of sorts. The beast however was too powerful and the wires would soon snap, the shuriken flinging out of their embedded positions with a whirling sound. At least the beast would find itself tripping as it hit the ground- but with it's attention drawn to a new threat how ever, he would turn towards the Commander.

"Oh, if it isn't the piece of shit commander Aizawa" a slitherly voice would call out- the voice of the chimera. "They can send as many of their pawns as they want but my research is complete- you won 't stop me." the monster screamed is it flipped back onto its feet with the agility of an ape and changed courses, locking its fist and swinging overhead and downwards at the building Yoru was on.

Yoru’s single hazel eye widened as he saw the blood trickling down the back of Taiga’s neck, if only he’d of brought Nobu with him. His younger brother had extensive experience in iijutsu and would be of great help. Though if things got do bad, Yoru would be able to teleport his younger brother to assist but teleportation jutsu were chakra intensive and he’d need to preserve as much chakra as possible.

The Bannin hadn’t expected for his steel wire to do much if any damage, but he had hoped it would hold the wild beast for a touch longer at least enough for Taiga to escape injury though it seemed he had failed, the best ripped through the steel wire as though it was simply string.

The Chimeras hands came slamming down o the rooftop where Yoru stood, luckily Yoru was quick perhaps one of the fastest men alive and had reactionary skills to match. He moved almost as a blur, as the arms came hurtling towards him, pushing himself hard off the ground and channelling chakra towards his feet and sprinting up the beast’s arm, his finger flung to his holder withdrawing the kunai with a fluid motion, striking at the chimeras’ large eyes in attempt to blind it.

The Chimera was no chump- it was beyond imaginable in strength and its agility was truly worthy of the beasts. The researcher was no longer a man- and the tricks of men would not phase him. Just as the kunai swung round, the beast blinked as an insanely strong leather like thing covered its eyes- much like reptiles. The kunai would not cut through it, and just as fast as the man had swung his kunai, and gotten into close range to do so, the Chimera would swing its left fist full force at his side, following up with a gashing, claw strike from his right.

The beast would, regardless of if his strikes worked, retreat backwards following his attack.

Meanwhile, Taiga was starting to recover enough that the blood had clotted. One hand in the ground, his neck and shoulder turned to stone. While his passive regeneration continued to heal his wound, this would do enough to stop bleeding and prevent further blood less. After all, stone couldn't bleed and he'd just turned that part of his neck to complete stone.

I wonder if there is a way to turn bird brains back into a human.
