Night of the Kraken

Shinjiro had to admit it felt good to have Asami at his side. He had promoted his former dagger to a full member of the seven a few months after Asami had become a Special Jounin and since then the two had worked alongside one another on and off throughout the war. Most recently they had fought together in Shark country, the ferocious natives with their scaly hard skin proving quite resilient opponents. They had managed to subdue them after months of fighting, and some even displayed a willingness to join Kirigakure after their display of strength. Now, the pair of swordsmen had been rallied together again to attack Tea Country, the infamous samurai of the deadly Iaido style. They had amassed a great deal of strength over the last few years and gained territory in salt country and fought alongside their allies in Fire country. Attacking them now was a bold action but intel suggested they and Konoha had sailed south in large numbers. An all-out offensive against the land of Tea and Fire country had been ordered. This was their chance to decisively put a stranglehold on their neighbors to the west.

The Kirigakure fleet sailed in full, in the cover of darkness, dozens of ships, branching off to attack various Tea country strongholds. Shinjiro and Asami traveled along a fleet from the newly established Nirai-Kanai, a water country stronghold founded by water country samurai and Kirigakure shinobi. Their forces comprised almost entirely of Karagata loyal men. Their target, the Tea country stronghold of Kenihiku. As the first ships breached the shore, troops poured onto the beaches, Kenihiku was located atop an elevated position, no more than a few hundred meters above sea level but it was the closest thing to a mountain among most of the gentle hills and lush fields of Tea country.

Shinjiro felt eager to finally clash with proper samurai, though he had some concerns about whether Asami would be up for the challenge. “What do you say we get a head start? I can get us up there before this lot wakes everyone up” he suggested, looking over the woman, she had grown into a true warrior, someone he could trust but that he didn’t want to see go to waste dying now. A few scouts had been sent ahead to silence patrols and it seemed to have done the job thus far but there would be a proper fight before long, they were too heavily fortified up there not to go down fighting. “Be careful with those pig-stickers, these are proper samurai, they’ll be fast, and they have reach on you” he chided. He still saw himself as her sensei and was technically still her superior, having been granted the title of Bannin and the position of Overseer of the seven. Green chakra gathered around him in thin wisps for a few moments before large black wings sprouted from his back. “Come here” he demanded gruffly, grabbing her around the waist and flapping his wings with great strength to propel them into the air.

Asami stood at the edge of the ship, enjoying the feel of the fresh sea air against her face and the way the air lifted her jacket behind her. The wind itself simply felt good and through the journey she was realizing she quite enjoyed the freedom of the boat. More than once she had found herself standing up on the railing with one hand on one of the ropes for stability, a reckless action for someone who hadn't spent much time on the ships themselves except to stock things below as a chore. She couldn't help but think she'd enjoy more time on the ships with the family she was finally finding herself a part of, the further she came in her shinobi career and the better reputation she had garnered for herself.

But now she stood on the deck, one hand on a rope and watching the approach of the shore with Shinjiro not far away. She had spent so much time with him she could almost feel where he stood without looking at him. She knew where he was, and though many found him unpredictable she had learned more and more about him and what to expect of him. He made his comment about watching out for the enemy's blades and the woman simply smirked. "Yes, you're worried, I get it." she teased, knowing he wasn't discounting her abilities but rather his real issue was what wasn't said.

She did was she was told and moved to his side, closing the gap between them entirely and wrapping both arms around his waist just as he grabbed her and she let him carry her away. She didn't tuck her head to hide her face, but rather rest her chin on his shoulder to look over it that she might keep a view behind him, to literally watch his back as it were so that when they would eventually land she would see what was behind him just as he would see what was behind her. "And the Wolf shall howl..." she whispered with a grin.

Night of the Kraken

Shinjiro let out a short huff of air before frowning beneath his mask as Amaya called him out on his concern. He didn't want to admit it but he was worried about her and he hated that she had read him so easily. "Would just hate to see that tattoo go to waste" he grumbled, practically pouting for someone like him as he attempted to reclaim his pride.

He felt strangely protective of her, she was his apprentice but he didn't expect to actually care about whether she lived or died. At most he thought it would be the Karagata name that he wished to honor and preserve. She wore their mark now, His mark, and that meant something to him but more than that he found that he actually trusted her, even relied on her from time to time. That was not something easily replaceable.

The masked Jinchuuriki lifted the woman off the ground effortlessly, holding her tightly against him. He knew she was remaining vigilant, watching and ready to fight at a moment's notice. As he would expect. He inhaled slowly, familiarizing himself with her scent in case they got separated or fought within the cover of her mist. Scents changed frequently of course but there were a few characteristics that tended to remain with her, a scent like the fresh morning dew and the faint musk of a wolf that mixed with the smell of her sweat. Of course he knew these scents well by now but nonetheless it had become a comforting pre-battle ritual for him.

Shinjiro could feel his body primed and ready to do what it did best; kill. Whether swift and silent or a monstrous fury of pure carnage he excelled at dirty work. It was his entire reason for existence. He felt mentally calm and prepared though his body yearned to be put to use. As he flew his head transformed into that of an owl, his preferred form when it came to scouting especially as night. He could see clearly in the dark and with great detail, hear the heartbeats of those that slept and those that stirred awake as they neared the fortress compound. It seemed the scouts had only cleared the patrols on the beach and a pair in the main watchtower, someone along the walls must have discovered a body, already some men were amassing with bows and as Shinjiro glowed green with chakra torches were lit and bells were rung.

No matter, the entire country of Tea was under attack. This was but one operation of many. Their orders were simple, kill all combatants, occupy their lands and stage a forward base to mount an attack on Fire country. No prisoners. And to those that managed to escape, instill the fear and might of Kirigakure into their minds. An arrow flew towards them and Shinjiro easily evaded, from behind Asami could see that most of the ships had reached shore and dozens of Kirigakure shinobi darted across the terrain though were still a good 5 minutes out at least.

Flying over the main wall overlooking the ocean Shinjiro let out a series of hoots, all those that heard him would feel the effects of his Genjutsu set in. Simultaneously his arrow at his hip; Malevolence darted from its sheath streaking through the sky and piercing through a pair of archers. Lathered in his grey poison anyone struck by it would be paralyzed if it didn't kill them outright. Tapping Asami on the back he released her from his genjutsu, saving her the trouble, "Go!" he commanded, setting her loose. As the effects of his genjutsu set in most combatants dropped to the ground or slumped against walls as they suddenly felt their energy drain away. It would give them the edge they needed. However, about a dozen samurai trained in the art of chakra managed to resist throughout the compound and moved along breaking free some of their brethern.
Jutsu UsedShow
Malevolence
“For nobody is curious, who isn't malevolent.”
An arrow, approximately 2 feet in length, with a steel tip and flayed bottom. Malevolence is a single weapon, and is controlled often through the user’s voice, though variations have existed throughout history. The speed in which Malevolence moves, and the strength in which it strikes is equal to that of the user’s 'Malevolence' weapon stat. Its slim body and simple design makes it difficult to see coming, and even harder to dodge, and its ability to be controlled makes it able to make sharp turns, simply stop in mid air, and easily alter its course. Additionally, the arrow is capable of splitting itself, creating 2 individuals that can all be controlled independent of each other. This weapon is stored in a thin black sheath at Shinji’s his left hip with the tip pointing outward there remains just enough space in the sheath to flow poisons into it, able to coat the length of the arrow while retaining a snug fit for the weapon.

Awareness of the Owl
B-Ranked Partial Kaerujutsu
Flowing chakra towards his head Shinjiro can take on the appearance of a great horned owl. Only from the neck up is he transformed, allowing him to turn his head 270 degrees, see clearly in the dark up to 250 meters away and hear the heartbeats of even creatures as small as a mouse from a range up to 100 meters.

[Genjutsu • Dark Wings of Defeat]
A-Ranked Warp Genjutsu
Prerequisite: 34 Willpower
This is a Genjutsu technique that allows the caster to place a large body of people into a lethargic state by channeling chakra. The genjutsu is initiated when the targets hear Shinji make a bird call of some kind. Once the targets hear the sound, they will see and hear a murder of crows flying toward them with black feathers fluttering around and falling down. For the opponents to realize this is a genjutsu, they just need a Will Power stat of 25, and then the standard control prerequisite to break out of it. If they don't break out of the genjutsu, the target will feel as if nearly all their chakra has been sapped from their body, collapsing in a near unconscious state, too tired to move or perform jutsu for the next 5 posts. If the user targets a victim with a lethal attack they will feel their energy and alertness suddenly returned to them.

Her chin resting on his shoulder, arms wrapped around him, Asami could almost feel him pouting at her observation. The woman chuckled to herself and tilted her head to let her breath caress Shinjiro's neck before purposely scraping her teeth against his skin. "You can punish me for that later." she assured him. Just a small tease before the pair both set their minds to task and focused on the bloodshed to come. To some the small flirt would seem out of place but to the two Swordsmen both went hand in hand.

She watched the chaos unfold as Shinjiro flew, and heard the call to initiate his genjutsu. She knew what it was, and recognized it, but without the control to break it she still could feel the effects of it. She growled under her breath, digging her fingers into Shinjiro as she tried to fight the wave of unconsciousness but nearly failed. If he hadn't tapped her on the back to release her manually she would have let go of him entirely and likely fallen. Still she grumbled in his ear when he released her. "Always the last minute..." she mumbled, though she knew he'd realize her complaint was at least partially playful. After all, he could have left her under it entirely. It wouldn't have been entirely out of character for him to leave her to her own devices to find her way out of it another way, even mid-battle.

At his command he released her, and she released him. She dropped down and rolled, drawing her sword Kowareta-Ha to her hand as she came up and grinned. She knew what opponents she had would have reach with their blades, but her style was meant to get within their reach and their guard. She felt perfectly suited to deal with them.

A nearby samurai made an attempt to draw their sword to decapitate Asami as she rolled to her feet, but Asami ducked under the move and came up hard, driving her knee up into the man's diaphragm as hard as she could. She drew her sword across his shoulder and spun around him before cutting across his other shoulder before reaching out and seizing him by his topknot. She yanked him back and snarled as she sank her sharpened teeth into his neck and yanked back, spraying blood from his neck as she had torn into a main artery. Shinjiro's influence on the woman was clear as she fought quickly and bloody. When she turned away, allowing her first opponent's body to fall, she saw two others take steps away from her after witnessing what she did and seeing the blood running down the front of her already.
Jutsu UsedShow
*[Toryu • Crushing Despair]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Strength, *[Toryu • Cobblestone Skeleton].
A brutal, raw technique, the practitioner quickly dashes into an opponent's range, often after avoiding an enemy attack, momentarily torquing the muscles in their legs before launching a powerful knee strike directly up into the target's diaphragm and sternum in an attempt to stagger the opponent. Aside from potentially fracturing or even breaking bones, the opponent can potentially be left winded. This sudden attack can potentially open up many vulnerable areas on the opponent's body for possible finishing moves.

Night of the Kraken

Post by Izanagi » Sun Aug 22, 2021 11:36 pm

From his vantage point in the sky, his head transformed into an owl and his large black wings spread out behind him against the backdrop of the moon, Shinjiro was an agent of death. He let out the sharp undulating call of a western screech owl. His arrow Malevolence streaked through the ramparts, splitting in two and heading in opposite directions as they pierced straight through over a dozen samurai that had fallen victim to his genjutsu. And just like that their first line of defense, the archers on the walls were dispatched. Of course, other Samurai were rushing in, ones that had been woken up as the alarms went off, managing to avoid his genjutsu.

Still, there was no question that their garrison seemed short-staffed. From the heartbeats he could detect and the vantage point he had he wagered there were no more than two hundred individuals in the stronghold. And of those many were women and children, most of the best warriors having been deployed elsewhere just as intel had suggested. Asami was cleaning up a few stragglers from the initial wave, a few people that had been scrambled out of nearby buildings.

Shinjiro landed next to Asami and drew his twin swords, his arrows circling back and hovering on either side of them as a group of 10 samurai came rushing through a large sliding door. Standing in the middle of the group was a middle-aged man with long black hair wearing light-green samurai armor, a symbol of Konoha on one shoulder. “I recognize you…Karagata Shinjiro of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, and your apprentice too eh” he stated as light-blue chakra flared around him. “Men, this position is lost. Full retreat, burn everything!” he ordered as they rushed to relay orders and light torches, heading toward the food stores first. Women and children were already being evacuated, being funneled out of secret passageways down the mountain as soon as the alarms rang out. “Stop them!” Shinjiro commanded, his arrows already darting forward as he made a series of hoots. And with that the samurai charged, drawing his sword as he moved, releasing a powerful slash of wind that moved at 40 Speed and strength covering a similar distance as he flashed forward in a surge of speed, moving at a similar rate. This opponent was a cut above what Asami could handle and if she handed already moved in pursuit Shinji would give her a flick with his wing to propel her up and toward the fleeing men. His arrows had already managed to strike down two of them though they faltered as his focus was broken, sticking into a doorframe and a barrel after killing their initial targets.

Strafing to the left, Shinjiro manifested an armored turtle shell around him as he released a powerful shout, aiming to divert the advancing wind blade and knock his charging opponent back, though his opponents' attack was much stronger than his and the man himself quite persistent. While he had managed to evade the initial strike, the man was upon him in an instant, slashing with a furious display of 40 speed attacks, his blade enhanced by an aura of wind. Folding his right wing down Shinjiro took the brunt of a few slashes, receiving deep lacerations and shredding his wing but it gave him enough time to settle into a proper Zantou stance, shouting a Kiai as he began to quickly contort his body to evade the strikes, though given the enhanced reach by the aura of wind he couldn’t get within range to deliver a killing blow or properly parry the samurai’s strikes. He could however adapt to his speed and attack patterns. After all, Shinjiro was also a master of Iaido, though it had been quite some time since he had been on the receiving end of someone quite this skilled, the only person comparable being his own father.

Jutsu Used:

[Iaido Fuuken • Howling Winds]
B-Rank Nintai Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 35 Speed, [Iaido • Phantom Funeral].
The superlative speed of Iaido combined with channeling Fuuton chakra, momentarily torquing the muscles in their arms, the practitioner manages slashes so fast that they spawn vacuum blades of Fuuton that follow the trajectory of their original attack. This attack spawns a single vacuum blade that travels up to a number of meters equal to [Control], and hits with [Control] Strength. If this technique is used in tangent with a melee attack, the vacuum blade strikes immediately after the original attack is finished, potentially sealing the opponent's guard and creating an opening. This technique can be used in conjunction with other techniques.

*Fuuton • Flying Swallow
C-Ranked Fuuton Jutsu
After forming the necessary hand seals, the user coats their weapon in a vortex of wind. This extends the weapon's range by 1m while not adding anything to its weight for 5 posts. It also causes the weapon to gain an edge as sharp as your average sword. This also applies the fuuton passive with [Control] Strength on contact with an opponent.

*[Iaido • Sword Spirit Draw]
A-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Overwhelming the opponent with a literal shower of high-speed slashes, the practitioner torques the muscles in their arm to draw their sword and continue to assault the opponent's defenses with a seemingly unending wave of slashes. By torquing the muscles in the arm and twisting the wrist when changing the direction of the slash, each strike of the sword is as fast as if it had been drawn from its scabbard. This technique can be used while moving, and the practitioner can feint strikes within the flurry to throw the opponent off-guard. This technique can be used for up to three posts.
Jutsu UsedShow
*[Zantou • Polar Bear Roar]
B-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 35 Strength.
Reflexively torquing muscles around the body, the practitioner releases the pent up energy with a fierce kiai, the amount of energy released so potent that it violently stirs the air up around the practitioner up to a number of meters equal to the practitioner's Strength in all directions with wildly alternating wind currents. This technique is able to destroy bindings and repel attacks, projectiles, and ninjutsu with a strength equal to 1/2 of the practitioner's Strength stat, rounded down, often simply diverting these attacks around or away from the practitioner instead.

*[Zantou • Winter Maelstrom]
A-Rank Taijutsu Stance
Prerequisite(s): *[Zantou • Winter Blizzard].
Building upon its parent technique, this Stance further builds upon further sharpening and refining the practitioner's capacity to focus on the opponent and the task at hand. Drawing in a deep breath, the practitioner also gathers up their energy and releases a kiai. The level of skill the practitioner has attained allows the practitioner to effectively attack and block from a neutral stance without any detriment. While in this Stance, the practitioner can effortlessly ignore non-critical distractions, focusing solely on the opponent(s). They also are able to ignore extreme heat, extreme cold, moderate oxygen deprivation, extreme fatigue, and even extreme pain. They can read the opponents' muscle contractions and body positioning very accurately in this stance, and they are able to read the direction, the type, the timing, and the speed of an attack that is imminent. The opponent can still effectively mask their movements if they have a movement-concealing Stealth technique of equal or higher rank than this technique. While in this Stance, the practitioner is conferred with a +4 increase to Strength and Will Power but suffers a -4 penalty to Chakra Pool and Control. The practitioner may end this Stance whenever they so wish.

*[Zantou • Frost Dragon's Flight]
A-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite(s): *[Zantou • Winter Maelstrom].
The practitioner has learned to strike and defend with movements that shift suddenly and ferociously. This Discipline represents the practitioner's knowledge and mastery of movement and muscle control, to the point that their movements, attacks, and techniques have no telegraphing signs until they are already in motion. This makes it much more difficult for opponents to properly react to the practitioner's actions in combat. Opponents must have a sight-based or sound-based Perception technique of equal or higher rank than this technique to adequately read the practitioner's movements, attacks, and techniques.

Night of the Kraken

Asami felt excitement run a flush of her cheeks at the sight of the Konoha symbol on the samurai's armor, especially as she heard him recognize Shinjiro and even herself, regardless of the fact that he didn't know her name. The fact that he knew her by her position akin to Shinjiro was enough. She grinned wickedly, eager for an opportunity to prove herself against a real enemy rather than in a spar, but a moment later Shinjiro barked an order at her, making it clear she was to divert her attention to lesser targets.

She didn't question it, nor did she hesitate in spite of the disappointment flooding her for a brief moment. She took off for the first one she could get her hands on and snatched the man by the neck. She took a fist full of the nearest one's hair and sunk her sharpened teeth into the flesh of his neck. He swung his torch wildly at her, aimlessly, but before it could even get close enough she had yanked back with a spray of red and tossed him aside like a useless ragdoll and moved on to chase down the next. She let her frustrations flood herself with an anger she planned to unleash on her own targets she pursued now.

"The Dread Wolf take you all!" she snarled in anger, transforming in a swirl of chakra. Moments later the woman was replaced with the shape of the wolf with the skeletal skull with flames for eyes and howling like an ethereal force in search of her prey.
Ability UsedShow
In all the time she has spent alone, Asami has studied animals extensively along with theories an darker arts. In her search for strength and power this led to her attaining the ability to transform into what she refers to as ‘The Dread Wolf’. Visually, this is the form of a black wolf that stands about four feet high on all fours, its face replaced with a full skull and what seem to be glowing blue embers for eyes. Speaking in this form means her voice sounds layered, making it incredibly difficult to recognize by those not intimately familiar with her. Physically she maintains her current stats.

Fear of Death: So long as she is in this form, this fear/dread effect is active. Seeing the Dread Wolf creates a feeling as if they are staring at an Omen of Death, as if their own end is prophesied by the creature before them. This feeling of Dread will affect anyone within a 20 meter radius and as it is an ability, not a genjutsu, it cannot be kai'd, however its effect is not above C Rank in affect and may be easily ignored if the other individual(s) have a Willpower Stat equal to or greater than Asami's.

Night of the Kraken

Post by Izanagi » Mon Oct 11, 2021 5:09 pm

The men Asami chased were initially focused on their orders of burning the storehouses, hoping to prevent any meaningful occupation of the castle. Though as the arrows picked off a few of them and then the woman ripping out a man’s throat the samurai realized they had to break apart and leave some men to deal with the threat. “Go on!” one man urged as he passed a torch, another tossed his into the bushes, flames licking at the fuel and making their way up nearby paper doors and wooden frames. It was difficult to set fire to a nearly established stronghold but they also couldn’t let such an advantageous position fall into the hands of Kirigakure. Three men continued on, each carrying two torches as 4 men stayed back to deal with Asami, each trained in Iaido and the family techniques of the Mizutane.

Her sudden transformation surprised them and the closest to her would find his grip on his Katana tighten to the point of his knuckles turning white, body tensing up in fear, slowing his reaction time. One of the other three, more focused a man in his late 20’s with a long black hair called out, “Focus!” he encouraged, his conviction unwavering despite the ominous feeling emanating from the wolf. His body remained relaxed with a comfortable stance as he slashed out from Asami’s right side, aiming to slice her open along the shoulder blade as she likely advanced to attack the weakest of the group, though if she moved for the leader first he would simply aim for her throat instead, delivering the vortex slash in such a way that even if she dodged it would strike the fire and set it further ablaze. The other two men stood at the ready, in a rough circle but spaced out enough that none of their allies were directly in line with the paths of any of their swords should they release their signature Fuuton infused slashes. They would be just as wary of each other’s movements as hers and ready to continue circling and striking out at openings that presented themselves. All the while the other men moved, setting fire along the way as they went and soon the compound was beginning to fill with smoke and flames.

Meanwhile Shinjiro was still held up by the strongest warrior the Mizutane family had stationed here at the time. In a flurry of lightning-fast strikes Shinjiro patiently slipped and parried strikes, adjusting his own movements to deliver subtle counters, simply adjusting the angle of his blades to attempt slight grazes and thrusts. It was just a matter of time, even just one touch with either of his blades would give him the edge he needed to deliver a decisive blow, though he was being careful and truthfully enjoying being able to practice evading such a tremendous flurry of swift and expertly delivered slashes. He was only able to enjoy himself in such a way because he was confident in Asami’s ability to preserve the stronghold against that group of warriors and fight even outnumbered. There too were hundreds of Kirigakure shinobi quickly surrounding the mountainous stronghold and battle could be heard against many groups that had moved to engage Kirigakure forces and buy time for civilians to flee. He had to admire their willingness to die in battle for the sake of others, even if that too seemed likely to be a lost cause. Many Kirigakure shinobi would not hesitate to slaughter women and children should they come across them in the heat of battle.

[Iaido Fuuken • Vortex Draw] (30 Speed, 25 Strength, 20 Control)
C-Rank Nintai Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Speed, [Iaido • Death’s Gate].
Drawing upon the superlative speed of Iaido while channeling Fuuton into their blade, the practitioner momentarily torques the muscles in their body to draw their sword from its scabbard and deliver a blindingly fast slash before sheathing their blade. The speed of the draw combined with the channeled Fuuton results in a vortex being drawn behind the blade striking with [Control] strength and applying Fuuton passive. Properly reading this attack requires the opponent to have a Perception technique of equal or higher rank than this technique. Otherwise, they cannot accurately read the attack and will be unlikely to completely avoid the attack, if at all.

Using Iaido to its fullest requires a keen eye and quick reactions, enabling its users to target weaknesses and openings that their opponents present almost instantaneously. This Discipline represents the practitioner's ability to attack openings that present themselves, the practitioner now able to reflexively attack an opening in almost the same moment that it is observed. This Discipline reduces the gap of time between a practitioner recognizing a potential opening for attack and launching the attack to exploit said opening to almost nil.

A technique refining the concept of targeting multiple opponents with a single draw, the practitioner uses their sheath hand to reverse grip the hilt. Using the one hand, the practitioner quickly torques their body and cuts with a reverse hand slash a full 360 degrees before immediately sheathing the blade. This technique can strike multiple opponents at once, and the reverse grip of the sword allows the practitioner to more easily defend against counterattacks immediately after.

The other 2 Samurai aside from the leader have 20 Strength and 25 Speed

Night of the Kraken

Post by Willoria » Wed Oct 27, 2021 5:31 pm

The man who had tensed in fear at the sight of her never had a chance. The moment his fear took hold was the moment his life should have been considered lost. The Dread Wolf rushed for him and danced beneath him. She slide under his blade and lunged upwards, coming up between his body and his weapon to latch onto his unguarded throat thanks to his loss of his own reaction time and his blood would soon decorate her skeletal muzzle. If he cried out, the sound would be lost to the hissing laughter of her form as she danced away from nearby blades and a swirl of red chakra once more found the woman before them.

As entertaining as she found life as the wolf, she knew her own focus was lost to its feral nature and only weakness would be found in it. Her own blades had strength in them. Still, blood decorated her face and her mouth from her kills and she grinned like a wolf at the men around her. Yet from the coward she skidded back to keep the remaining few in her gaze as she made a mental note of all positions and her hands flew into seals. From her seals would first come the smell, then from a second set of seals would come the mists to shroud her within them.

She held up a hand after the third set, aiming for the position of the leader first. 'I must remove the head to panic the rest...' she thought to herself as she fired off the marble size bullets of mist aimed for where the leader had stood when the mist had rolled in.

She stood in silence, and she listened for her targets from there. If at least the genjutsu had worked, she hoped to hear the sounds of vomiting to tell her where to strike her now much more vulnerable and distracted targets.
Jutsu UsedShow
*[Genjutsu • Smell Of The Deceased]
D-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
After performing the necessary hand seals, any victim that sees the user preforming the hand seals will be induced under the genjutsu. This causes the target to begin to smell rotting flesh and decaying bodies. The jutsu can cause nausea and vomiting from the target, depending on how sensitive their sense of smell is. The smell of the dead can also cause some mental stress on the target. This genjutsu lasts for three (3) posts.

*Hidden Mist Technique
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: Kiri-nin
Kirigakure no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique utilized by Hidden Mist Ninja. After forming the required hand seals, the ninja creates a blanket of mist which covers the area around them. The mist covers 10x10x10m area. The mist limits the visibility of those inside to 4 meters in any direction. This technique lasts a number of posts equal to 1/2 the user's Chakra Pool.

*Mist Bath
D-rank Ninjutsu
While inside the mist, the user will form a series of hand seals, then hold a hand forward. From their hand 5 marble sized bullets of mist will form and shoot forward through the mist at [Control] speed and strength.

Night of the Kraken

The exchange between Shinjiro and the Mizutane samurai had lasted less than a minute, yet it was enough that the young overseer of the seven had sufficiently learned his opponents attack patterns. Th use of Fuuton ninjutsu had kept him on the defensive initially but having learned to take the fluctuating range of his opponent’s weapon into consideration he was able to connect with two simple nicks in quick succession, a small graze to the samurai’s cheek with Chaos, followed instantly by a thrust With Agony that was only partially blocked, leaving a significant gash in the samurai’s arm. And that was all Shinjiro needed, fear and pain unlike anything the man had experienced wracked through the samurai’s body. With his resolve, he might have been able to keep on his feet, even attempt to flee if he had been given a few seconds to adjust but against Shinji’s speed and lethal precision there would be no such opportunity. Strafing to the left with a quick flick of his wings and a shift of his hips Shinjiro brought Chaos down in a powerful slash, slicing through both of his opponent’s arms in one swift motion, followed by an opposite slash from agony taking the man’s head.

Blood sprayed from the headless corpse as the sounds of battle raged on elsewhere. Fires and mists spread across the fortress and the expansive fields and towns at the base of the mountain. The citizens of Tea were attempting to retreat and leave as little as possible to the invaders but Kirigakure forces were swift and efficient, putting out fires while simultaneously picking off combatants and disrupting efforts to coordinate retreat. What was chaos and panic to those under attack was a familiar and well executed tactic by the invading shinobi. Still, the warriors of Kirigakure were not immune to the frenzy and bloodlust of battle, far from it, they relished in spreading fear and panic and using it to fuel their relentless assault.

As far as Shinjiro was concerned however the battle was already won, the resistances were falling quickly and there was no hope of Tea rallying their forces into any meaningful defense. It would be over soon, the grunts could handle rounding up prisoners, his work here was already done. He had taken out their initial line of defense and their strongest warriors. Flicking blood off his blades he sheathed his weapons, tucking his injured wings behind his back. For the time being he would retain his armor and the transformation of his head into an owl, it was important to keep his guard and awareness up after all. Slowly approaching Asami’s position he let out a few whistles, his arrows springing to life and hurtling toward the three that had broken off and attempted to set more fires. He was confident in Asami’s ability to handle the warriors she was fighting, and he wouldn’t insult her by taking that away from her.

Asami’s water bullets collided with the vortex of wind, nullifying each other as the two other samurai that circled her found themselves gagging and disoriented as the mists surrounded them and their senses were assaulted with the smell of pungent decay. Still, they held their swords, ready to draw though too nauseous to think about attacking blindly. The leader of the group however was clearly an experienced warrior well used to the smell of death, he would not be so easily subdued, though the mist did give him pause. Fortunately for him his style was well equipped to clear it away, at least temporarily. Another gust of 20 Strength and Speed wind from his blade would create an opening in the mist as well as target Asami if she didn’t move, and with an opening he would follow the burst of wind by charging forward to deliver a slash aimed across her torso, moving at 25 Speed and striking with 30 strength while still having his sword coated in wind to deliver an immediate secondary strike, cutting with 20 strength.

Shinji:

*[Zantou • Frost Dragon's Fangs]
A-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): *[Zantou • Winter Maelstrom].
Torquing the muscles in their arms, the practitioner unleashed a relentless flurry of twisting slashes and thrusts. With controlled twisting of the wrists and arms, the practitioner can immediately change the direction of any of these attacks, even to the point of converting a slash into a thrust and vice-versa. The unpredictability of this technique, complemented by the practitioner’s already muted movements, makes this one of the deadliest techniques in all of Zantou.

Mizutane samurai fighting Asami:
[Iaido Fuuken • Vortex Draw]

[Iaido Fuuken • Howling Winds]
B-Rank Nintai Maneuver
The superlative speed of Iaido combined with channeling Fuuton chakra, momentarily torquing the muscles in their arms, the practitioner manages slashes so fast that they spawn vacuum blades of Fuuton that follow the trajectory of their original attack. This attack spawns a single vacuum blade that travels up to a number of meters equal to [Control], and hits with [Control] Strength. If this technique is used in tangent with a melee attack, the vacuum blade strikes immediately after the original attack is finished, potentially sealing the opponent's guard and creating an opening. This technique can be used in conjunction with other techniques.[\Spoiler]

Asami grinned widely as she stood in the mists. She could hear the retching of those around her as they smelled the dead, but it seemed not all of them were so easily done in by the smell. Her mists were blown away in one space and the shinobi quickly rolled away to come up on her feet and turn to see what opponent proved to be an actual challenge. She watched him with interest as he came at her, and she dropped under his attack. One hand came up to grab the weapon just above his hand while the other slammed into his wrist with all her strength in an attempt to disarm him and maybe even break his hand in the move. She grinned wickedly at her own work, daring to head-butt him if the rest had been successful. Only then would she again draw the worst of her two swords, Kowareta-Ha, and make at least three slashes against the man and drive him back before using her other sword to try and pin him to the ground by driving his own through his shoulder with a another wicked grin. "Watch." she snarled at him.

She quickly turned her attention back to the rest who were left. They made so much noise, they were easy to find. She stalked back into the mists and emerged with one, dragging him back into view of his leader before kicking him to his knees and slitting his throat at his leaders feet with a maniacal laugh. She was learning to love the bloodshed as much as Shinjiro had taught her, she was revelling in it now and in the fear that came with it. She left the corpse behind as she went to find the other gagging wretch. She was only gone in the mists for a few moments before she returned with the other squirming mess, but this one she didn't make quick. She thrust her blade through the man's back so that her blade emerged from his chest. When he dropped to his knees in pain she held him there by his hair as she watched the leader with interest.

"The Dread Wolf calls for sacrifice... what would you give to make his end come faster, dearie?" she asked as she laughed.
Jutsu UsedShow
*[Toryu • Searching For Hope]
A-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite(s): *[Toryu • Granite Epitaph]
Extending additional uses to the body conditioning of the hands, Toryu practitioners are skilled in parrying and deflecting attacks with their bare hands. This Discipline represents the practitioner’s capacity to defend against weapon attacks with their hands whenever they wish to do so. This is executed by placing their palms against the flat of the blade or around a non-damaging section of the weapon and pushing or deflecting the weapon away. This Discipline is ineffective against Acrobatics weapon attacks of equal or higher rank than this technique.

*Kūgāpou • Hunter's Prediction
C-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
By observing a weapon's movement through the air and having a deep understanding of weaponry in general, the practitioner is capable of predicting a weapon's trajectory. This technique is especially effective when the practitioner saw the actual moment the weapon was launched, as seeing the movement of the weapon wielder provides crucial information. If they didn't see the weapon being launched, they can still predict the trajectory to a smaller degree but are incapable of accounting for high-level taijutsu that may be applied to the weapon attack.

*Kūgāpou • Leveraged Fang
C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The practitioner will sidestep a weapon attack against them and attempt to disarm the opponent. They will grab and pull the weapon on a safe or dull spot before simultaneously slamming the other palm into the opponent's wrist. If the opponent has a Rigid Structure technique of equal or higher rank than this technique, they can resist being disarmed. Otherwise, the weapon is ripped from the opponent's grasp and their hand is knocked away. Their wrist will swell from the impact, making handling weapons in that hand difficult if the wrist isn't outright broken due to the practitioner having a higher Strength than the opponent.

Night of the Kraken

The Overseers Malevolence pierced through the remainder of the fleeing samurai, one by one dropping them with a heavy thud and a gurgle of blood. Their torches sputtered and choked, snuffed out by the encroaching mist. And within that same mist his beautiful and deadly apprentice toyed with her prey, hunting them in her mists and dragging around her captives. She always did have a bit of a knack for theatrics, though Shinjiro wasn’t entirely innocent in that regard. Though he favored swift executions there were times where his more bestial nature lent itself to feeding off of terror and relishing in the hunt. And when angered his violence manifested in gruesome slaughter and wanton destruction. There was a reason he was known and feared throughout the world and soon Asami would no doubt share such a reputation. This was how it should be, the Seven swordsmen; each member a monster and a legend that could bring down fortresses singlehandedly.

Bleeding and disarmed the squad captain gasped for breath, “The Mizutane clan will have their revenge. Tea country will reclaim these lands and it will be your people that are slaughtered” he vowed, grit and determination in his dark eyes, even as he lay on his back bleeding. He gritted his teeth and struggled to remove the sword through his shoulder, grabbing the blade itself with both hands in such a way that it wouldn’t cut him. Spitting out globs of blood and choking as he cleared his lungs, he managed to pull the blade free with a clink and turn on his side. All the while one by one his men were executed in front of him, and he could only watch with a hateful glare. “I’ll end this myself” he growled, drawing his tanto and channelling Fuuton chakra into it before turning it on himself, stabbing into his abdomen, making a horizontal cut, and then a pained twist. At the last second as his eyes began to fade and his body slouched, the chakra released in a vortex of cutting winds that would shred everything within a 10-meter radius in 25 Strength and speed cutting winds. His intention clearly being to take them all down together and retain his honor as a samurai.

Meanwhile Shinjiro recalled his arrow into his holster, flapping his wings once as he kept just out of range of the cutting winds. He wasn’t worried about Asami, he had enough faith in her that she could survive such an obvious last-ditch effort. He had trained her better than to let her guard down in front of a dying opponent. That was when they were most dangerous when they had nothing left to lose and only spite and hatred to fuel them. In his own experience, the times he had come closest to death were the moment after he thought he had dealt a killing blow. Now, even after his opponents lay dead at his feet, he remained wary of lingering threats. “You seemed to be having fun” he commented dryly as the mists temporarily blew away, giving a full view of the blood-soaked ground and the dozens of bodies around them. Clanging steel, burning fires and slowly diminishing war cries, screams and gurgles resonated around them in the cool midnight air. This outpost was there’s now. Before the sun rose, they would be on the move again, pushing further inland and storming Fire country itself. But they had at least a few hours to rest. Some of the grunts would be busy throughout the night consolidating resources and putting out fires and other such tasks but for the elite such as Shinji and Asami they were needed at their best and given preferred treatment. The best quarters and food would be reserved for them.

Asami laughed as the man made clear he wouldn't let her kill him herself, as if he were robbing her of something. "Your sacrifice brings joy to the Dread Wolf." she snarled, laughing still as he turned his tanto on himself. She withdrew her sword from the man in her hands and flicked the blood away before sheathing it quickly, knowing she would need out of the area fast. Rather than resorting to a jutsu, the woman kicked off the ground with her sheer strength and arched her back into the jump to land as far away as she could manage, and outside the range. She landed on her feet in a slight crouch, watching the fall out from his technique with a grin on her face and a slight shake of her head. "As if that's stealing something from me..." she muttered with a content sigh.

She turned as she heard Shinjiro speak, grinning when she saw him standing nearby. Blood still decorated her lips and chin as she approached him, a new lust in her eyes for a moment as she looked over him briefly in spite of his non-human additions at the time. She glanced over the corpses on the field and took a deep breath. She was coming to enjoy the smells of the battlefield, the blood and the charred earth, among so much more. "What can I say? This is becoming more fun every day..." she replied quietly. She turned to look at him again, a wicked grin returning. "You really going to hide behind that calm tone and try to tell me you're not having fun? That Vorashu isn't clamoring for more from inside of you right now?"

It was a rare moment for the woman when she became curious about the beast within Shinjiro, but here it was. For that second she wished she could hear the beast herself and know more of it, just as she wished to know more of Shinjiro.

Shinjiro observed as Asami continued to taunt and play with her prey. It wasn't his preference, favoring ruthlessly efficient kills but he wouldn't fault her for it so long as she didn't let her guard down. It wasn't unusual for shinobi of Kirigakure to be rather sadistic after all. 'More human flesh returns to nourish the earth, good. Throw some to the ocean so that sharks may feast on their remains' Vorashu encouraged, finding deep satisfaction in the bloodshed that helped serve the natural cycle of life.

The Jinchuuriki's head glowed with wisps of green chakra, his human features returning as the owls retracted back into his flesh and faded away. His hood was down but the cloth mask remained. He inhaled deeply, closing his eyes for a moment as he embraced the carnage around them. He was an instrument of death, this was his calling, his purpose. Burning buildings crackled and hissed as they met mist. Blood, death, and smoke filled his sensitive nostrils. And yet his feelings were always mixed, the cold precision of his assassin and kenjutsu training, versus the primal aggression and thirst for battle that clawed at him just beneath his skin. He was in a constant state of self regulation, giving in just enough to sate Vorashu without losing control.

He leveled an appraising look at her and reluctantly he gave in to a grin. "Maybe a little" he admitted. "Just dont get too reckless. I've dealt what I thought were killing strikes and still almost died afterward. Next time I'll have you fight the strongest we come across" he decided. The best way for her to learn would be to face near death herself. Not just at his hand but that of those whose skills were a complete unknown. That was the only way to truly hone one's survival instincts and killing edge.

Slowly he moved closer to her, "Vorashu wants us to dispose of the bodies in the ocean so that the wildlife can feed" he reached out and held her jaw firmly with his blackened fingers, "You've become quite the animal yourself. Such a mess" he teased, a flicker of some playfulness in his eyes and tone. "You could have your fill too if you like" he suggested, his words possibly holding a double meaning. It was hard to tell exactly, but combat did have a way of awakening his primal impulses.

Asami returned his grin with one of her own. It wasn't as if he had just said 'you're right', but it was probably the closest the man would ever get. And she'd enjoy what he did say just as much as if he had said it. When he mentioned her fighting the strongest opponent next time though the grin dropped from her expression and she simply looked at him in shock for a moment. "You would leave me your favorite part of the fight?" she asked him suspiciously. Shinjiro naturally took the most powerful opponents to himself, she had never seen him leave one to someone else, the idea of being given the chance to take one on instead both made her nervous but also proud. 'If he were to trust me enough for such a fight...' She had to bury the reaction quickly, but it was certainly a rare moment of excitement that had threatened to rise in the normally very composed woman's mind. Though she knew such a thing would also be a test that could easily end in her death, it wasn't an idea she minded at all. It was a test she coveted regardless.

Her thoughts were quickly interrupted as he moved closer to her and spoke of Vorashu's wishes, something else that didn't happen often. Again her desire to hear the spirit's words for herself rose in the back of her mind, but the woman tilted her head before she nodded. A smirk sliding into place as he continued. "Hm." she hummed at him as he spoke. Even she couldn't be entirely sure what he meant, but in the moment she was willing to make the gamble. "Perhaps first the wildlife as Vorashu asked... then you can fill me if you wish." she added, glancing around them at the carnage. "Why don't we start by feeding the sharks that bastard who thought his death could trap me?" she added, nodding towards the samurai who had tried to catch her in his final act, though she still returned her gaze to Shinjiro, fingertips dancing under his chin briefly.

Night of the Kraken

Shinjiro gave a contemplative grunt in response to Asami’s question. He had intended the challenge to put some fear into her, to temper her growing confidence. And instead, she took it as a reward, though he supposed he did limit her and only allow her as much risk as he thought she could handle. “It’s rare for me to find a challenge anymore” he stated simply in response. Shinjiro didn’t enjoy fear or the risk of death, so much as they were something he knew he required to keep himself sharp. Becoming complacent was dangerous and he needed to fight those stronger than him if he were to continue improving. But if they couldn’t provide that then they served no purpose to him and he could allow Asami to grow instead. “I wish only to grow stronger, if my enemies can’t challenge me, they would serve better to hone your instincts instead” he said in an even tone. He knew Asami had seen moments where he had indulged his impulses and enjoyed combat, but it was rare for him to admit such things.

He held her jaw firmly, sliding his grip down to her throat as she made her suggestion. His eyes locked with hers, his bright green primal eyes contrasting against his cold demeanor. “Very well” he agreed. Releasing her throat he gave her a light slap against the cheek, leaving his handprint against the blood that stained her face. Nodding, he turned toward the corpse she spoke of. When he approached the body he crouched down and retrieved the tanto that had been used in the hara-kiri. Wiping it clean he slid it into its saya with a smooth click before sliding it into his own waistband to keep as a memento. Then he would move to the man he had killed, retrieving his head and noting an interesting piece of stone that had been worn as a necklace laying next to the corpse. A piece of jade, roughly the shape of an oval, about 3 inches long and carved with the shape of a dragon against it. He let out a low hum, feeling the material and finding his interest in it piqued. The man had been a skilled warrior and this was surely something of value he could keep as a trophy, perhaps even to honor him in some small respect.

Though, perhaps it was simply a curiosity, as Shinji promptly and rather unceremoniously stuffed it into his pouch before grabbing the severed head by the hair and the corpse by a foot as he dragged it toward the cliffside. There were dozens of bodies around and he wasn’t sure he would want to personally toss them all into the sea, he could always direct some of the shinobi to do so when they made their way up after the fighting throughout the villages was settled down. “An offering then, so these deaths are not wasted” he said, before hurtling the head into the sea and then similarly one-handed tossing the remainder of the corpse. He supposed the armor he wore was likely of great significance to the Mizutane family as well. The helmet had fallen off and been left on the ground, though the rest likely would never be recovered. The ocean's depths were not forgiving.

His hand slipped from her chin down to her neck, and Asami didn't move to stop him. Instead she lifted her head almost as if to give him easier access to her. The light slap he gave her when he released her, she answered with a light whimper and a smile, her eyes sparkling mischievously as she looked him in the eyes. It was like she was waiting for more. As he turned away she frowned, slightly disappointed, though also knowing this was hardly the place or time. She would have to make do with the few touches she had received, and he with the few sounds she had returned. A growl under her breath and she went about checking a few bodies as well. She found a couple of symbols that seemed significant, perhaps family insignias, headbands as well. She found herself specifically looking for items that would identify the men she found, silently relishing the idea of robbing the men of their identities and the families of closure. It was hardly something that would normally bring her any kind of enjoyment but in the moment it did.

Once she had a few items, she'd choose a body or two to also donate to the ocean depths personally, but it wasn't until she was walking back that something caught the woman's eye. There was a smell of smoke, different than the rest though she couldn't pinpoint why, and as she lifted her eyes she noticed a spiral of it that seemed darker than the rest. "Strange..." she muttered. "Stones and homes don't burn like that... what burns like that?"

While on the ramparts that overlooked the ocean, Shinjiro grew a monkey’s tail from his lower back, casually tossing several more corpses that had been felled by Malevolence in their initial attack. Though as he walked back through the courtyard with Asami he too noted the peculiar smoke. “Lacquer, a different type of oil and wood” he assessed, though he was somewhat curious. It seemed there were some foreigners in these lands besides the Kiri invaders. Though he doubted it would be any kind of significant trouble. Hardly worth the time of the top-ranking members of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist. “Go find us one of the nicer estates to rest in, something with its own Onsen. Clean up and be waiting for me when I return” he ordered. He was sure she would understand what he meant by that. After all he had agreed to give her something of himself after their offering. “I won’t be long” he said simply, leaving little room for arguing. When his mind was made up, he expected his word to carry weight and even Asami rarely questioned direct orders.

He was of course confident he could track her down again with ease. But for now, he would do a quick sweep of the villages below the military stronghold they had stormed together. Hundreds of women and children were still fleeing the lands and though Shinjiro didn’t want to admit it, he preferred to avoid the death of innocents. Even when he had looked out over the ocean he had seen glimpses of smaller fishing boats with civilians attempting to flee under the cover of relative darkness, illuminated only by the light of the moon and the burning of their homes.

Shinjiro has developed a remarkably keen sense of smell even when not transformed into an animal. He can easily distinguish scents between people as well as pick up on trails that are several days old. His passive range is equal to his Willpower stat though for particularly strong smells such as blood or decay he can detect from a distance of [Willpowerx5] meters away. When in a transformed state of an animal with a strong sense of smell such as a canine the range of his sense of smell is doubled.

Asami exhaled sharply through her nose as Shinjiro identified the smell, almost as if it stunk to her. "What the hell would smell like that?" she muttered, shaking her head. She was curious, but knew she was unlikely to find the cause. Especially as Shinjiro went on to give her an order. As he did, she couldn't help a smirk. She had gotten better about obeying orders, that was true. Sometimes she still disobeyed one or two as well, if only because she found his anger oddly entertaining when the timing was right. But orders like this she thoroughly enjoyed the end results. For a brief second her hand came up and two fingers danced under his chin before he assured he he wouldn't be long and the woman chuckled. "Best not..." she said lowly before turning away to go do as she was told.

Meanwhile somewhere below had been a circle of wagons, about half a dozen. Four of them were burning, in one their occupants still screaming. A few samurai and shinobi seemed scattered among the wagons, many still fighting. Under one a teenager hid in silence, a hand covering her own mouth to quiet her own whimpers, light green eyes filled with tears that searched but could not find their way out.

Shinjiro gave the woman a look, as if to reprimand her curiosity. Despite his own. He didn’t need her to worry about such things, there were more important things she could be doing. And he wanted her mind focused solely on him when it came time for him to enjoy her. For a moment he wondered if she would question him, it had been at least a few weeks since he had properly punished her. He almost missed it, but he did also savor the kind of rewards she preferred, and so long as she was patient and obedient until then she would have it.

The Jinchuuriki’s body remained rigid, poised and imposing even as she ran her fingers along his mask against his chin. The fabric lowered enough to expose his nose and the slightest corner of his mouth that was raised into a mischievous smirk. His tail caressed her side, wrapping around her gently and trailing her thigh in a teasing fashion before suddenly spinning her around and then his wing smacked her firmly on the behind with enough force to send her tumbling several feet. By the time she stood again he would flap his wings, vanishing in a burst of speed.

He smiled for a brief moment and then focused himself on the sounds and smells surrounding the base of the hillside. Descending silently as a phantom, an omen of death he instantly assessed the situation. A convoy of foreign travelers, three tea country samurai defending them and a group of five shinobi, appearing like Chunin most likely, pushing the group back with a series of attacks, kunai and suiton ninjutsu as others darted in, making passing slashes with ninjato. Several bodies from both sides and civilians alike littered the ground. Shinjiro frowned, at least two of the bodies were children under the age of 10. Nearby a handful of other one on one skirmishes were ongoing.

It was impossible to know which had killed the children, and it wasn’t as if it was against orders, simply it was a personal annoyance. ‘Kill them all’ Vorashu’s voice seethed. One of the Kiri shinobi was cut down by a samurai and slowly they began to push back, bloodied but determined to stand against the aggressors. Shinjiro’s arms glowed green, head down his hood covered him once more as he his arms transformed into snakes, grabbing a man from either side, biting into their throats and tossing them at the opposing side as Shinjiro landed softly, another brief glow, this time beneath his mask and suddenly a long tongue shoved the fabric down, lashing out. “..Who?” one of the Kiri-nin stammered out before another interjected, “Lord Karagata-Sama” he recognized, kneeling and bowing his head, encouraging the others to do the same. The two remaining samurai cautiously backed away, hoping to retreat but the snake-limbs extended quickly, grabbing one of the men around the leg and the torso. The other attempted to slash the snake in half only for his steel to clang against their scales. Lifting his captured prey high overhead, he tore the body in two, raining blood over the group of them. “Those children were non-combatants, and foreigners to this land. Which one of you killed them?” he questioned, his tone even yet cold. All the while he ignored the screams of those that burned. They were already beyond saving he assessed.

Focusing chakra into a limb/appendage of choice the area will glow green before transforming into either a green or black venomous snake which can then extend up to 25 meters to bite or constrict around an opponent. If bitten the target will experience nausea, blurred vision, elevated heart rate, and sweating for 3 posts as the venom flows through their system. Shinji can maintain his limb in this form for as long as he wishes and revert it at a whim, able to attack with strength and speed equal to his own.

Frog Tongue

Night of the Kraken

She stayed beneath the wagon, hand still clasped over her own mouth as she watched all that went on. The merciless fighting, silently hoping for victory for the samurai that tried so hard to protect her still. Yet then someone else came. A stranger with unusual power she couldn't help but to inch forward and watch. Her light green eyes peered between the spokes of the wheel to watch the scene. His wings were strange, his hands changed into snakes causing her eyes to go wide. In shock she watched him as he attacked men from both sides and tossed them like they were nothing to him. 'Which side is he on then?' she wondered. But moments later it was as if the question was answered. The shinobi who had attacked them immediately bowed to his whims, and the samurai who protected her tried to stand against him. One of them fell violently, as his gore rained down quite literally she cried out and whimpered as she momentarily forgot herself. The one samurai who remained seemed to inch closer to her, trying to hide her as he slowly inched in front of the wagon wheel she hid behind.

She could feel herself shaking. She knew he was all that stood between her and certain death, and yet she could not take her eyes off the one who was certain to be the cause of her death, and of his. "Just go...." she whispered to him quietly. "The rest already died, you can't protect me any more than they could... not from him..." she saw the samurai only shake his head slowly in response.

Her eyes flitted back to this Lord Karagata, silently wonder what he was, who he was. 'There's more to him...' She was curious, and terrified all at once.

The Jinchuuriki’s bright green eyes shifted as he heard a gasp, locking with similar eyes peering through the spokes of the wagon wheel. He noted too the defiance in the samurai’s gaze. Turning his attention back to the three Kiri shinobi he awaited an answer. The one who had shown respect kept his eyes down, bowing deeply and keeping silent. The others looked nervously between each other as they kneeled. “Confess or you all die” he declared. “It was the one you killed, Michio!” a young man with teal hair said, speaking up for the first time. His eyes were wide in fear. Truthfully the men that had been bitten and tossed were only paralyzed from the venom, perhaps with some broken bones but he didn’t need to know that. Still, the answer seemed too convenient, and the way the man’s eyes darted to the shinobi kneeling in the middle of the group indicated the truth of the matter. His right hand transformed back, drawing his black blade; Agony in a flash of movement, it would appear he simply reached for the weapon, and by the time he touched it the teal haired man was already on the ground, writhing in agony from a deep cut across his face. “You’re lying” he asserted, his left arm snaking toward him and wrapping around his throat, slowly squeezing tighter and muffling his screams. The man with deep black hair narrowed his eyes. “No, it was me!” he admitted. “Any survivors will eventually take up arms against us. It had to be done” he asserted.

Shinjiro glanced at the small corpses a boy and a younger sister, no more than eight and five, the boy covered in senbon sticking out of his back, the girl with a slit throat. He had been protecting her, struck down and the girl stabbed as she lay under his corpse. Even Shinjiro was not so heartless as to kill children unless they were suffering, and it was the only peace he could offer. He had seen his own younger sister drowned and electrocuted to death at a similar age, and even now he felt his heart ache for her loss. “For your honesty, I will grant you mercy” he decided, even releasing the writing man on the ground. He could respect the will to protect one’s comrades as each of these men had aimed to do. But that didn’t mean such actions or lying to him would go unpunished. The black-haired man exhaled slowly, hesitantly. “Stand” Shinjiro commanded them simply, only the respectful one and the murderer were able, the teal-haired man still writhing and screaming on the ground between strained gasps for breath. No sooner than they had risen to their feet, the black-haired man gasped for breath, a sudden wet sound and a tearing as Shinjiro’s hand grasped through his chest, ripping out his heart in a smooth motion.

Meanwhile the samurai guarding the frightened teenager, whispered to her under his breath, “Run, now” he insisted. Hoping to cover her as the demonic entity passed judgment on these shinobi. He had never seen something so fearsome, large black wings sprouting from the man’s back, a long tail and tongue that seemed to be ready to defend from any attacks and those serpent arms, scales so strong a Katana couldn’t even scratch them and with enough power to rip a man in two or toss him as if he were weightless. The truth was the samurai was too terrified to move, he couldn’t even look away and even uttering those two words took all the strength he had. It felt like every second was his last on this earth. And yet he couldn’t put down his sword or give up the girl even if he tried. His warrior code was too strong, honor bound to fight and give his life protecting others.

Situational Awareness
B-rank Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: [Perception]
Shinji has developed a keen sense of awareness of his environment. His innate attention to detail allows him to memorize the layout of an area or building as well as having a knack for identifying the entrances and exits as well as the positions of any other people in the area and even important details about that person, allowing him to see through disguises or transformations unless the opponent has a technique to mask their appearance of equal or greater rank. This grants him an almost a sixth sense in combat situations and his constant readiness allows him to more easily detect hostile intent and escape from ambushes.

*[Iaido • Death’s Gate]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Speed.
Drawing upon the superlative speed of Iaido, the practitioner momentarily torques the muscles in their body to draw their sword from its scabbard and deliver a blindingly fast slash before sheathing their blade. Properly reading this attack requires the opponent to have a Perception technique of equal or higher rank than this technique. Otherwise, they cannot accurately read the attack and will be unlikely to completely avoid the attack, if at all.

Organ Harvester
A-Rank Maneuver
Prerequisite: [Deft Hands] [Medicine]
Utilizing immense speed, strength and precision the user is capable of thrusting one’s hand through another’s body so long as the user’s Strength is at least 10 higher than the opponents. This can be done to rip out an entire organ while keeping it intact, shatter an opponent’s rib-cage, sever a spine or simply run their hand entirely through the body of another causing catastrophic damage.

Night of the Kraken

She couldn't take her eyes off of Shinjiro. Fear still had her hands shaking, and yet still her curiosity was piqued. She flinched visibly when she saw him rip out a man's heart, eyes wide as she tried to process the fact that he had promised mercy and yet killed the man so violently. And yet at the same time it was as if pieces of stories her mother had told her growing up were slowly coming together. "Yokai..." she whispered. She found herself inching sideways out from under the wagon, her hand feeling along the ground until she eventually found her staff where she'd discarded it while fighting. But she didn't bring it up to fight, she slung it on her back where it belonged. As she came up behind the lone samurai left protecting her, she heard his whisper and shook her head quickly. "I can't." she whispered back. "He's... he's getting revenge for my niece and nephew... don't you see... he is Yokai..."

The tears that had been running down her cheeks were slowly drying as she stepped forward, eyes still wide in curious wonder as she stared at Shinjiro. When the samurai inevitably tried to grab her to keep her from getting closer she slapped his hand away and pulled from him. "He only killed my nephew." she suddenly called out, clearing her throat, her voice shaking as she spoke. She lifted a hand and pointed slowly towards the teal-haired shinobi. "He was the one who actually killed my niece."

Her voice wavered as she spoke, fear still shaking her to her very core. But as the young woman faced what she was sure was a Yokai, a figure that to her was possibly as significant as a god, she felt she had to speak the truth. Even in her fear a question broke from her lips. "Are you a Yokai? Are you here to avenge us?" she whispered. "I've prayed to meet one of you all my life..."

Night of the Kraken

The corpse fell to the ground, and the last man standing stared wide-eyed. Upon closer inspection, Shinjiro noticed the traits of a Jouchaku, blue hair with yellow eyes. He had been so quick to bow to him before he almost hadn’t noticed. It made sense he supposed, the Jouchaku were bled to the Shiimu family that worshipped various gods and paid great reference to spirits such as the Genma. “You’re free to go. Leave your friends. Warn others not to strike down innocents less my judgment fall on them as well” he commanded. “Yes, it as the divine wills it; Jinchuuriki of Vorashu” the man uttered in reverence. Knowing full well who stood before him and what he housed. He glanced at the approaching girl, seeing a similar devotion in her and nodding his respects before departing. He had killed only the samurai that had fought him, the burn marks on the corpses of those boiled within their armor would attest to that. With that the man darted off.

Slowly, the amalgamation of beasts and man, turned, his tongue flicking out and smacking against the samurai’s hand, he made an attempt to strike or to move and instead simply collapsed forward onto his face. Shinjiro’s venom had soaked into his skin and quickly taken hold. The Bannin smirked as this young woman mistook him for a Yokai. Though he supposed considering the broad term it wasn’t wholly inaccurate. He was a monster in a sense and the spirit he housed was certainly a powerful entity that had bestowed him shapeshifting powers such as many types of Yokai of legends. He would allow it. ‘Yokai…those lesser beings spawned from my designs, twisted and bred with lesser spirits’ Vorashu considered, he held no disdain for such being’s but they were lesser to him. But Shinjiro himself could be considered as such. He looked her over, assessing the information she brought to light. Taking a step back he gestured to the paralyzed teal-haired shinobi whose body twitched in agony as he could only cry out in gasps and grunts, eyes flickering around in panic. “Then take your revenge” he permitted, haphazardly tossing the heart to land next to the man’s face. Shinjiro’s blackened hand glistening with blood, his other arm in the form of an emerald green snake coiled along the ground, hissing as it approached the heart.

Shinjiro’s long tongue retracted back into his mouth and his wings spread out wide to their full length, 3 meters to either side of him. As she questioned what he was he felt inclined to show her more of Vorashu’s chakra. Wisps of green energy emerged from every part of him, enveloping him in a thick aura that began to condense and cling against his skin, his remaining human arm lengthened, and the blackness continued to spread across whatever skin was exposed. His hair twisted into braids and grew longer, spilling out from under his hood and pushing it off his head as it cascaded over his shoulders and encroached toward his face, his features masked in a dense layer of green chakra. “I wield the power of creation and change, King of all beasts that roam the earth. My name is Karagata Shinjiro but I am chosen to host Vorashu; the great shaman and god that created all creatures” he explained, his voice was layered as his will and Vorashu’s merged as one and overlapped with another. His power, the raw primal energy was palpable even to those untrained in chakra arts and every animal within fifty miles would suddenly cry out in panic and then draw silent all at once as Shinjiro roared loudly to the heavens.

Cho was told to take her revenge, a comment that surprised the girl. Her eyes turned to the teal-haired shinobi and she took shaking steps towards him. She was raised to read people, and to heal them, fighting was only for defending one's self. She had never been taught to kill or to take life really. As she knelt next to the shinobi who had taken the life of her niece she couldn't help a glance back towards Shinjiro. And yet she dared not say a word, though his words sounded like a request, it could easily be a command. Taking a deep and shaking breath she turned her eyes on the shinobi in front of her and her eyes quickly went to his kunai pouch on his thigh. "I'll do what he asks of me." she said quietly, swallowing hard as she reached over and took a kunai from the man's pouch. She looked down at the man in front of her who she could see was plainly in absolutely pain. "You killed my niece." she said quietly. "This morning I was teaching her to the meaning behind the cards, and telling her stories of a couple of the friendlier Yokai, and now you slit her throat... all she wanted were stories and time with her brother.... to sit in her daddy's arms and listen to stories..." Fresh tears ran down her cheeks before she finally brought up the kunai and drove it deep into the man's stomach on his right side, dragging it across. She had never taken a life before, and clearly had no plans for her first time to leave him dying quickly.

When she stood again she stepped away from, leaving him with everything that made him up spilling out in puddles and piles, discarding his kunai before she looked to Shinjiro again and her hands stained in blood. She returned to her question of who he was and stared in near awe and still a touch of fear at what she saw before her. She stared as he not only showed his power but also gave a name. "Vorashu..." she whispered quietly. The young woman dropped to her knees first, pulling back her own hood to fully reveal her hair and face before prostrating herself before him completely out of reverence for what he was and what he represented to her.

She had found herself before a god.

"What does Vorashu ask of me for what he has given me?"

Shinjiro watched through the veil of green chakra. This young woman was a victim, but she possessed a strength to her. She deserved a chance at life, a chance to conquer her fear and become empowered by her retribution. He held nothing as he watched his comrade of Kirigakure twitch, fear in his eyes. In the end every life was meaningless, but some were more deserving of life than others. And he did believe in the innocence of children. There was a flicker of emotion however at the recounting of the child’s last morning. The world was cruel, humanity evil at its core and even this Shinjiro buried, accepting the circle of life even against his personal morals.

But he was saving a life, in more ways than one. Helping this woman grow stronger and find closure so that she need not life whatever years she had left in fear. He heard others approaching, reinforcements as the screams and clanging of metal continued to fade, only the burning and voices of shinobi persisting. There were even a few victory shouts. The woman drew a kunai across the shinobi’s stomach, spilling forth his entrails and releasing a particularly foul stench. The powerful, glowing figure nodded his approval.

And when she removed her hood and threw herself before him, Shinjiro felt a swelling of his pride. He wasn’t sure if it was entirely himself or Vorashu’s satisfaction at being worshipped, having one who still respected the old gods of the world. The Phantom beasts known as Genma. “Your debt has been paid. Now live. Escape from here and devote yourself to serving nature, all of the natural order. Life and Death and everything in between” he determined. Perhaps fate would allow their paths to cross again but for the moment she needed to be gone from here.

She wasn't sure what she expected him to ask of her. It could have been anything, even her life, and she would have given it up freely. Her family had just died, she would mourn them for the rest of her life, but she had also just met what in her world and raising was a god. Her mother would have said that was a fair trade, that Fate dictated such a strong sacrifice be necessary for her path to take such a sharp turn. 'The winds are changing now... I just don't know where that change is taking me...' She waited for him to tell her what he wanted of her, and was surprised when it was something as simple as living. She started to get up, pausing on her knees as she nodded in response to his command. "I will." she replied. "As you command."

She could hear the sounds of others coming and knew she had to go fast, but her head turned slowly and she looked back towards the samurai that had been trying to save her. She felt nervous, but realized a simple truth. Her eyes came back to Shinjiro, the light green orbs staring at him before she let her breath out slow and finally asked. "I'm weak. I can't get out alone..." she said quietly before motioning to the samurai that was paralyzed by the wagon. "Can I take him with me? If I am to live, I might not make it far without him..." She knew she might be pushing it to ask, and yet she knew she had to.

Shinjiro nodded, pleased with her compliance. Though there was no more time, she pleaded with him to allow the samurai his life as well, instead of being captured or executed by the other shinobi. A protector. It made little difference to him, the man had shown bravery and he was no great threat to Kirigakure. At least not currently, and if he ever became as such Shinjiro would simply kill him then. “Very well, but I will be repaid if we ever meet again” he determined, making it clear that sparing this man’s life had incurred an additional cost. With that he moved in a flash, knocking her unconscious with a swift but exceedingly careful and controlled pinch to her neck. As she slumped forward the snake would wrap around her, having swallowed the heart that had been previously laid before it. In a swift motion Shinjiro wrapped his tail around the paralyzed samurai, flapping his wings and taking to the sky. In a matter of minutes, he descended from the sky, dropping the woman in a boat already baring a few families and injured men. He absorbed the poison out of the samurai before releasing him as well. There were a few muffled screams from the panicked refugees, but Shinjiro hardly stuck around long enough for any of them to get a proper look at him, a glimmer of scales in the moonlight, or the shadow cast by his large wings and that flash of a green glow. And then he was gone, allowing any other boats full of refugees and injured warriors to escape.

It wouldn’t take him long to track down Asami’s scent and make his way to whatever villa she had found that hadn’t been damaged by fires. The man did a cursory sweep of the property to make sure they were alone, running into a handful of other Kiri shinobi and instructing them that the Seven Swordsman had claimed this property and were to be left undisturbed until an hour before daybreak. And then, at least he would be able to find some rest. His green aura absorbed into himself and so too did his partial transformations. He began sliding off his blood-covered clothes and weapons as he entered the building. Until he found her, presumably waiting for him in the onsen. Shinjiro’s smooth face and striking eyes stood out against his muscular body, marred by countless scars, burn marks and his brand marks of loyalty to family and village displayed on his shoulders. “See? Hardly a wait at all” he commented flatly, though his lip curled into a slight smirk. Only when he laid eyes on her did he finally begin to neutralize the poisons throughout his saliva and other bodily fluids.

Night of the Kraken

The young woman let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding, and nodded quickly. She bowed slightly from her kneeled position. "Of course, My Lord." she replied, suddenly unsure what honorific was right, but before she could ask her vision was suddenly swallowed by darkness. By time she would come to, it would be some time later. She would find herself on a boat and hearing stories of how she got there. None of the stories matched, but the samurai who had been helping her was at her side as promised, and watching over her. She was simply left wondering when she might see this god in the flesh again, and how he might collect on the debt she owed.

Asami meanwhile had taken some time finding the perfect place, but found it she had. It must've been a truly rich noble who had such a place. An onsen with a glass wall that had a perfect view of the city. In this case, that view was of carnage and violence, something far more perfect for two shinobi with a penchant for violence. By time Shinjiro would find the woman she would be waiting, her own clothes and weapons set aside neatly on a bench while she waited in the warm water, the steam rising all around her. The window-wall was already steaming up. She leaned against the wall of the onsen, her body barely hidden beneath the water, her arms on either side of her as she waited. Her black hair wet and spread out on the ground behind her. She heard him approach and sighed, closing her eyes as she pushed her feet off the ground and let herself float in the water to give easier view and access.

"Still too long..." she complained. "I think you owe me for making me wait." she added, knowing the result her words might have. He definitely both loved and hated her sass after all...
