It was a beautiful day. On a day like this, Senkensha Mika could swear the mountains could sing. At the very top of a cliff was her small cabin she had built with her own two hands only a couple of years ago. It had taken her so long but it was well worth it. It even had a small porch on the front that hung over the cliff's edge, when the day came that she could learn how to fly it would be perfect. Next to it was a small firepit where she did a lot of her cooking, and behind it started a great pine forest that ran down the entire mountain. But the cabin was her home and her point of freedom.

Today Mika sat on the roof in her full freedom and her natural state. The young thirteen year old girl was sitting with her white-blonde hair flowing free in the winds, her blue eyes sparkling mischievously. Her thick black horns came up from behind her head and curved out in front of her, splitting into two in front of her forehead. Her wings unfurled from her back and flapped in the breeze from time to time before folding neatly behind her. Her tail trailed behind her and twitched back and forth in silence. Yet she still wore her little red kimono that only came halfway down her thighs, her legs stretched out before her as she enjoyed the warmth of the sun.

She turned her head slightly as she thought she felt a presence nearby and caught a strange scent on the wind. She couldn't be sure, it felt like nothing. "Hello? Is someone there?"

Throughout the war Shinjiro hadn't exactly had free time. He had constantly been deployed between key fronts, leading the conquest of Starfall island, fighting shark people in Shark Country, Samurai in Tea. He had even made a trip out to the country of holy towers to secure the capture of their leader. But with all of his travels he had heard the rumors of other nations growing in power. One such nation was this realm of Titans that had largely been ignored by the great 5 as they focused on expansion. Though there were rumors that Fire country may have formed some kind of truce with their northern neighbors. More concerning than this potential alignment however was that there had been no shortage of rumor about Katsu's involvement in the region.

Now that he had some time of his own, Shinjiro was determined to scout the area and gain a greater understanding of what exactly was going on in this "Titan home". This was not the first time Shinji had been through River country, he had escorted shipments of slaves and other goods along this route a handful of times as a fresh Special Jounin. His talents in scouting had been instrumental in determining the viability of the land based route as well as confirming Konoha and Kumo activity in Whirlpool country and the railroad that had been undergoing construction, now completed.

It seemed travel through these regions would be quite impossible now that Katsu's group had secured a foothold and Konoha had even conquered Rice country and taken a portion of Earth countries former border securing slavers ravine entirely. Now, trade between Kiri and Iwa would rely almost entirely on naval routes around Lightning country or perhaps the occassional risky trip through Aroma country though such a region was much more heavily regulated now that it was directly under Konoha's thumb instead of merely being a trade partner.

For somone who could transform seamlessly into animals it had been quite easy for Shinjiro to approach Titan home undetected. He had masked his chakra signature for good measure and transformed into a mottled grey and white colored Marsh hawk, a common species for the region. The only distinctive feature one might notice as odd was that instead of yellow legs and talons his were a charcoal black coloration. Easily missed from a distance but possibly enough to raise suspicion if he ventured too close to others. He had landed atop a cliffside with a good view of the area, he had planned on scouting the number of individuals and movement patterns of anyone around this village, but it seemed he was not alone on the cliffside. A detail he quickly noticed, though assumed there was nothing suspicious in simply sharing the view.

When the girl, whom he observed had quite facinating draconic features, called out, Shinjiro focused his senses accutely, wondering if there was anyone else in the area she might have noticed. After nearly a minute he determined that he couldn't detect any other presence. His mind raced, should he kill her? Ignore it and hope she dismissed her feeling? He had no idea what kind of talents this girl had or how important she was. Or even if she was as young as she appeared. He supposed he could engage her in conversation, kill or capture her if necessary. If he didn't reveal his true form then it was possible even if she passed on the information that Katsu and the others wouldn't know it was him. There were a number of spirits after all that could speak and spiritual activity did seem stronger in this region. "Hello, who might you be?"He wondered, "My name is Takaguchi, what sort of spirit are you?" He questioned warmly, slipping into a friendly demeanor of a simple marshland spirit creature.

At the sound of the voice Mika suddenly turned and spied the hawk in the tree. Grinning like a giddy child she couldn't help a squeal of delight. She didn't even notice that there weren't really any other animals in the area, almost as if a predator of some kind had come in and caused many to flee. She got to her feet and looked up at him, folding her hands in front of her as she smiled up at him. "Takaguchi? I am Mika." she said, introducing herself with an incline of her head in place of a bow. A bow while standing on a roof seemed dangerous after all. "I'm not a spirit though." she said, giggling just as her dragon features seemed to melt away and left behind the form of just a simple little girl. "I'm just... me."

She motioned down to the cooking pit on the ground. "I'm making a rabbit stew if you're hungry." she told him. "I think I still have a couple unskinned and raw I hadn't added to it yet if you'd like. I'd love the company. Aside from my family not many come to see me up here. I don't get many guests." She walked to the edge of the roof and dropped down, silently hoping the hawk would follow.

She landed without issue on her feet, a trick learned recently from Katsu of course. At the cooking pit she stirred the pot of stew that sat against the embers and unwrapped a couple of raw rabbits she had sitting nearby as she waited to see if the hawk would join her.

The grey and white hawk observed the girl through unblinking yellow eyes. In this form Shinjiro’s voice was distorted somewhat, slightly deeper and layered, almost as if there was a faint echo, though he made an effort to keep his speech light and friendly regardless. “Good to meet you, Mika” then as her features melted away the bird tilted its head, “Interesting…I’ve never met a human quite like you” he claimed, though that wasn’t quite true, in fact he had met a number of people with various transformed states or body modifications and wings. The girl seemed to have her guard down despite her keen awareness earlier. It was possible this was only a ruse and that she was playing a part as he was, never one to trust things at face value, Shinjiro was wary in case he misjudged the girl.

At the offer of rabbit stew, he felt his stomach rumble. It had been a while since he had last eaten and when transformed he didn’t just take on the form of an animal, he became aligned with their same instincts and tastes. “I am quite hungry, thank you” he accepted, flittering down from the tree as he descended in a controlled fall toward the cooking area. “How big is your family? Are you friends with these ‘titans’ that live around here?” he wondered conversationally as he hopped and fluttered over to the raw rabbits. He would wait patiently, tilting his head here and there and waiting for one to be tossed toward him to which he would knock it down and cover it with his wings while ripping open its stomach with his sharp beak and beginning to rip out chunks to greedily swallow. It was hardly the first time Shinji had feasted on raw meat; in fact, he didn’t think anything of it at all. It felt completely natural to him when in his animal forms to eat as they would.

Mika couldn't help a giggle as the hawk landed near her and she tossed one of the rabbits towards him. She watched him as he caught it and started to eat it, thoroughly fascinated as she saw him eat. She loved wild animals and loved to watch them. It took her a moment to remember he had asked her a question, and that she had her own food to get. She turned and filled herself a bowl of the stew and sat down to eat it, being careful not to burn herself. "Not very big." she admitted, smiling happily still. "I'm the newest and youngest one. They took me in after my mother was killed." She took another bite of her soup and set it aside, her smile taking on a bit of a sad tone.

"My mother was a priestess of a dragon god... I guess her village got tired of her. After I was born, before I could transform to look normal like this, they grew afraid of her. They chased us down, burned her alive. I managed to get away." She sighed and shrugged, looking at the hawk for a moment. "What about you, Takaguchi? Why can you talk? Are you a spirit then?" She was so very curious about this hawk, about her new friend.

Shinjiro continued to rip apart the rabbit, tearing strips and chunks off but digging beneath the fur for the best pieces of flesh. Even while doing so, his hearing, smell and even the feeling of vibrations around him kept him fully attuned to his surroundings. Animals tended to be able to sense his power and the presence of a true apex predator, an alpha male that stored within him a god of creation and ruler of the animal kingdom. Still, he made efforts to present himself as average as possible. The young man was a trained assassin after all, he knew when to appear meek and blend in with his surroundings. He could even feign genuine interest and kindness when necessary. “These titans, they’re kind to you then? What are their goals?” he wondered after gobbling down another large portion of flesh. Blood stained his beak and neck feathers, but he seemed to be quite enjoying the food and focused more on the meal than the conversation.

His eating slowed somewhat as the girl explained her mother’s death. “Humans…the vilest creatures. Say what you will but you’ve been blessed by a spirit, closer to a half-breed than a human really” he assessed. It was easy to think from the perspective of a spirit when he had Vorashu constantly berating him about the worthlessness of humanity. “What of the others, are they human or mixed like you?” he wondered. Of course, he knew Katsu was hardly considered human anymore, whatever shell she had been left after Vorashu had been ripped from her she seemed to find a way to retain or at least mimic the Genma’s powers. A formidable opponent, at least in terms of raw power and toughness. Shinjiro had witnessed a few vulnerabilities firsthand and had learned more about the type of immortality she seemed to possess. Between the clone of her studied in the village, insight provided by Yoru, his own fight with Katsu and his experiences with individuals with regeneration and elemental bodies, even a puppet body, he knew she had to have some kind of core, a weak point. But also, that she would be impeded regardless if he could inflict severe enough wounds unto her. The hawk nodded its head when addressed. “Yes, a spirit of course. I used to live around here, though it has been some years. Can you help catch me up on what has changed around here?” he wondered. He had no idea what sort of information this girl had that might be helpful to him but it was easy enough to simply ask and go from there.

Mika giggled as the hawk asked her what the goals were of her new friends. The girl was mostly naive but the questions were slowly starting to make even her wonder as she shook her head. "A home? Freedom?" she asked, chuckling still. "They brought me here to help me settle up here, and since then all I've done is hunt and live and learn... they taught me how to change myself so I don't have to be embarrassed by how different I look. Though they say one day I'll be able to transform into a great dragon too, a full dragon." She grinned happily. "I can't wait until I'm strong enough and have the chakra control to do it." She was practically giddy thinking about it. "I'll be the second great dragon in this valley, my new father of course is the first."

Many of the rest of the hawk's questions were either unanswered as she nibbled on her stew or a shrug. In truth in the couple of years she had been there she knew so very little of her new family. She only knew how much they cared for her, and how much they protected her. As she finished off her stew she set her bowl aside and looked to her new friend. "There's another rabbit here if you're still hungry." she told him, looking at him a moment. "If I tried to pet you, you wouldn't bite me would you?"

It was becoming apparent that this girl wasn't privy to the talk of Katsu's inner circle. If she were to believed Mika was simply an orphan that had been adopted in to the group. It was interesting to note at least that they accepted in others, likely preferring those with unique abilities and a mind that could be easily moulded. Mika therefore was a recruit that could be made into a powerful weapon when she learned to fully transform. "Another dragon, how very interesting. I may not look very strong but I fought a dragon once. Your kin are quite powerful." He noted, one day he too would learn how to transform into a dragon. With some practice, even at his current level it might be within his reach.

Another rabbit was offered as Shinjiro gobbled up the rest of the choice pieces of the first, leaving behind most of the skin and bone. "That's enough for now. If I eat too much I'll be too full to fly" he explained. She asked about petting him and he hopped closer to her, "You fed me so I'll allow it" he conceded. As a hawk he didn't particularly enjoy being pet but he knew maintaining an air of friendliness was important if he were to learn anything more about Katsu and her companions. "What is your fathers name? I would like to meet another dragon, and of course I'll be friendly with this one" he insisted. He did have an appreciation for dragons though truthfully he hadn't even considered less lethal attacks the last time he had encountered one. He hadn't been able to kill it in the end, it being rescued and able to retreat after he slashed its throat open but he had certainly attacked with the intention to. He wondered how strong the dragon here would be.

Mika looked amused as the hawk spoke of fighting a dragon and couldn't help a little giggle. "You must be able to transform yourself as well then." she mused as she looked at him. "It's hard to picture such a little thing taking on one of my larger kin." she admitted, blushing a little with her giggles. "No offense, I swear."

She watched with interest as he finished off the rabbit she had given him, and wasn't all that surprised when he turned down the second. She had rarely seen a hawk greedy enough to take a second. But as he seemed to be an intelligent creature, a spirit even, she thought that maybe it would be different for him. As such she thought he might've wanted it. Regardless she shrugged as he turned it down but was ecstatic as he conceded to allow her to pet him. He hopped closer and she reached to to gently pet the top of his head and even down his back a few times. She smiled at him a bit before shifting around to lay on the ground, moving her arms behind her head to use as a pillow. She knew better than to pet him for too long. She didn't want to take advantage after all and either end up upsetting him or end up bit. She could guess being pet wasn't on a hawk's list of favorite things.

"You've asked so much of me, but I still hardly know anything about you." she remarked, turning her head to fix her eyes on the hawk and noticed his oddly colored legs for the first time. "I'm not even sure what to ask though... why not tell me about yourself? If you're a spirit, what kind of spirit are you? Why are your legs so dark?" She had the innate curiosity of a young child still in spite of the time she'd spent among the Titans, something preserved in her life here oddly enough. She was still quite sheltered, her naivety something that seemed to have an odd kind of value to them.

Shinji looked up at the strange girl through the yellow eyes of a hawk. He was beginning to think this girl had no valuable information to provide him. Despite what some may think he didn’t typically kill needlessly and in particular, he tended to avoid killing children, especially young girls. Mika seemed innocent, he would rather she be allowed to live, but that meant he couldn’t reveal too much about himself that could be used against him to warn Katsu of him coming for her. Though he was a patient person, as an assassin he could easily lie and adapt, wait for the right opportunity. Whether he killed Katsu now or a month from now or even a year made no difference to him. She was simply a threat that would need to be dealt with eventually. Perhaps she would even be the one to attack him when their inevitable final battle came to pass. Whatever the case, Shinjiro simply wished to be as ready as possible and increase his odds of survival. He had found a few small joys in life worth living for beyond his training that compelled him to duty and loyalty; Asami, Yuuto, Chisaki, and even his friendship with Maido. Those were people worth protecting. As long as he was strong enough to continue to survive and keep them safe then that would be enough. He had no intention of throwing his life away needlessly in a confrontation that was not favorable to him.

It was with these thoughts in mind that Shinjiro considered his answer carefully as Mika asked him about transforming. “Hmm, you’re right. This isn’t my true form. Though even in this state I can at least kill most humans.” He stated, tilting his head as his unblinking eyes stared at the girl in warning. He ruffled his feathers and hunched his shoulders as the girl continued to ask more personal questions. “I’m a protector of nature, against the destructive ways of humans, and occasionally dragons or others that would burn and lay waste…my legs are just a unique trait of mine” he claimed, speaking mostly truths though also mixing his own motivations with that of the spirit that actually dwelled within him. ‘Insolent welp!’ the haunting voice of Vorashu echoed within his mind. At last, the insult of adopting his role was enough to rouse him. Within Shinjiro’s mind fog swirled around him within a looming dark forest as the cloaked shaman towered over him. ‘You dare claim to protect nature yet cling to the heel of human masters. Fierce and powerful, but whipped and subservient. You are protector of only the human filth that stain this tainted world’ Vorashu chastised, its voice seeming to come from all around, a cacophony of tones and pitches, one moment deep like the roar of a lion, another sharp like a hyena or echoing like that of a raven. The Genma’s face was nothing more than a bird-like skull, eyes sunken and impossible to discern, mouth unmoving. ‘You know I don’t give a damn about most human lives, let the animals kill them, let only the strongest and most worthy survive. It makes no difference to me. I serve because Kirigakure is strong, if your creatures are so fearsome that they would destroy the great nations then so be it, but they are not. Time and time again they have tried and failed, even humans have been unable to kill off one another. Like it or not that’s just the way it is’ Shinjiro responded coldly, unphased by the Genma’s criticisms.

In truth, Shinjiro had grown to appreciate raw animal desires and the simple way of living. Strength, lust, survival. They were paths to a greater sense of fulfillment than simply obeying orders, but it hadn’t been enough to draw him away from the village. All of those things he could achieve better by serving as an elite shinobi of Kirigakure, there were no better training partners, no greater outlet for his lusts than the women he already had available to him and certainly defecting from the village would be detrimental to his chances of survival. He had all that he needed, though it occurred to him that in his time spent with Maido if the blood witch did ever muster the spirits to overcome humanity, he would have no issue in following her cause and seeing the dynamic of the world flipped. ‘The day will come; plague and pestilence, spirits and inhuman aberrations will reclaim the world from the reign of human infestation and mortal shells will be cast aside, my Genma brethren returning to rule this world once more.’ Vorashu vowed, whether it was a decade or a century until such an event came to pass made little difference to a being as long lived as he though it was an inevitable certainty. Truthfully such an ominous warning felt oddly cathartic to Shinji. A cleansing of the evils of man, there were worse things that could happen but regardless it was not relevant to him now, ‘But not today’ he said simply to the Genma within, pulling himself back as the images faded and his awareness returned to the girl before him. From her perspective he would have seemed to simply stare off at nothing in particular for a minute or so, his eyes eerily distant despite their clarity.

Mika couldn't help a giggle as the hawk ruffled his feathers at her and even seemed to try and glare at her. She turned her head and looked up towards the sky once more. "Well I will never lay waste." she seemed to proclaim almost. "No, my mother is dead, my real father is likely a lie of her making, another story. Why would some powerful shinobi ever bed her, given her craziness? Pfft." Mika rambled for the brief moment, shaking her head briefly before sighing again to stare at the clouds going by. "No, now I live among nature, and giants, and dragons..." she looked over at the hawk and grinned. "And apparently I get visits from a protector of nature." she added before turning her gaze skyward once more.

"No. I will never lay waste. Nature is my mother now. The sky is my father. The winds will guide me, the earth will raise me." she sighed happily and giggled, rolling over onto her stomach suddenly and grinning at the hawk as her form soon returned, her wings, her horns, her tail seemed to return in a flourish and she pushed herself up to standing as she felt the wind brush along herself and she grinned. "I can't wait until these wings are strong enough to carry me... then I'll fly and go anywhere I want even."

She looked down at him with a slight pause and smiled almost sadly. "Hawks are born with the ability aren't they? I'm jealous to be honest."

Shinjiro sighed, attempting to quiet the voice in his mind, though he could feel Vorashu's restlessness. This close to Katsu, the Genma was bristling with the chance to force his way out and alert the powerful entity that would make every effort to rip Shinji to pieces. He had to be careful. he had come here to scout, not to engage. He had no support and there was no telling how powerful Katsu's allies were, especially the dragon. Though even Katsu alone was more than a match for him. It had been years since they had fought and he had grown considerably stronger since though he still preferred to err on the side of caution. Moreover, after having recently been defeated twice in one week he was even more cautious and on edge than usual. "I'm glad to hear that. The world needs more people like you" he said, surprising himself in that his words were in fact genuine. "Stay away from the shinobi nations, their wars and petty conflicts. Getting involved with them will bring nothing but sufferring. A simple life, living off the land, being free and true to yourself. That is better than the life of any shinobi" he advised.

He wondered for a moment if Katsu really was someone that needed to die. If she just kept to herself and raised orphans in the forest, he could not fault her for that. Though he knew that as long as he lived and Vorashu was contained within him he would be her target. Killing her was a necessity, it was self-preservation. He supposed though that he could afford to wait until she made a move against him, if nothing else she would be direct in her attack he was sure. Finding a way to assassinate her or pick off her allies and lead her into a trap fueled by her rage would have been ideal but he realized that ultimately he had the choice to simply let things play out as they may. Shinjiro too had found people to live for, those that he cared about that he wished to protect; Yuuto, Asami, Chisaki, even Nishiki. That was enough reason to ensure that he came home safe. "You look better like this" he decided, tilting his head as she mentioned she still couldn't fly. "You're safe here aren't you? You should be practicing every day, and staying in your true form. You can't learn to use them if you hide them away" he stated simply, confused. As someone raised on a vigorous training schedule he couldn't imagine having such natural features and not learning to use them. "Fly with me then" he stated simply. Without waiting for a response he flapped his wings, propelling himself behind her in an instant as he gripped the base of her wings with his talons. He would do his best to grip in such a way that it wasn't too painful, perhaps mostly uncomfortable. Effortlessly he would lift her off the ground despite his small size, "Just glide, spread your wings out, keep your chest back and your body straight. It's easy" he instructed, flying for her and instructing her in much the way a parent would teach their child how to swim or ride a bicycle. Of course, he would make sure to begin flying away from the camp, but not too fast or too far to cause any immediate concern.

Mika scoffed out loud as the hawk spoke of shinobi nations and shook her head vigorously. "No no, I almost died at the hands of simple villagers, they killed my mother. I wouldn't dare seek out shinobi villages. I'd hate to see how they might react to me... my bloodline... my form..." She had honestly been looking at her hands almost sadly when he spoke on her form. Her scales shimmered in the sunlight as he told her she looked better like this and it took the young girl a solid minute to process what he was saying. She blinked rapidly before turning to look at him as a small smile slowly seemed to crawl across her face. "...really?" The word was but a whisper, the question incredulous. Of course her new father, her new 'grandmother' had told her as such but somehow that had felt expected. She hadn't expected it from this one. Just a moment before he had spoken as if all dragons did was destroy nature.

Yet here he was complimenting her. "I guess I've just gotten used to hiding it. The form without them is a new talent just the last few weeks, I never used to be able to do that. But yeah, I'm safe-" She suddenly cut off her own words as he took a hold of her and gasped in surprise. So much of what transpired next came as a complete shock. The way he had grabbed a hold of her, the fact that he was strong enough to pull her up into the air. She did her best to follow his instructions through the confusion that raced through her mind. She spread her wings out and straightened her back and felt the ripples of the hair glide over and under her wings. Her hair was loosened by the motion and pulled free and the girl grinned from ear to ear.

"My goddess you are strong!" she exclaimed, giggling happily. She glanced around and saw everything beneath her growing small, only giggling again joyously at the feeling of it all. It was so much different than flying on Kori.

Shinjiro nodded slowly, “Even more so than dragons, humans are destructive. It’s natural to fear the unfamiliar but no creature goes to the same lengths as man to subjugate or destroy those that are different from them. To shinobi you would simply be a tool, a weapon used to destroy and be discarded when you are no longer of value. My mother was killed by one such weapon, that is their way of life.” He stated simply, though his voice was layered slightly in his transformed state, a deeper echo to his words, the voice was still his own. He knew what he was, knew the cost of his way of life and genuinely wished for peace in those that could afford to live in such a way. It was not a luxury many from his homeland could afford.

As he lifted the girl into the air, he found himself chuckling lightly at the situation, he couldn’t say he imagined he would be helping a dragon child learn how to fly when he had set off on this mission. It was one thing to put on a friendly front for the sake of information and subtlety but perhaps this was going too far. And yet he didn’t particularly mind it, no part of Shinjiro had ever wanted to be a father but he had long held a soft spot for young girls, and even more so for those that were misfits or had animal traits. In fact, it felt rather natural to him to be kind to this girl. “Grow stronger, learn to fend for yourself, and leave Katsu and the others when you can. Staying with them will only paint a target on your back” he warned, even as she began to get a rough feel for the basic form of flying. His own wing flaps would create some turbulence, but she would at least feel some partial lift from her own glide, enough that he could gradually weaken his grip on her. “Stretch your wings, catch the wind, tighten your core. Don’t arch your back too much” he advised, making some small corrections until he was confident, she had the feel of it. “Good” he stated in approval, before releasing her. If she looked like she was going to plumet to her death he would probably save her, they were a little over a hundred feet in the air, travelling at about 15 speed by the time he felt comfortable releasing her. It would be enough that she would have a decent fall and some time to correct herself or make a controlled crash into the canopy of dense trees. It had been a while since he had been around non shinobi but surely she wasn’t quite as fragile and helpless as a normal child, right?

She heard him say to leave Katsu and the others, but for the immediate moment when he said it she immediately dismissed the words as something to address later or perhaps ignore. Katsu and the others had quickly become the family she had lost, or perhaps the family she had never had in the first place. She had no real understanding of the things they were mixed up in, she only knew the way they accepted her. The way of the world was, as of yet, lost on the girl. But his other encouragement she took to heart and soaked up eagerly. She followed his instructions and stretched out her wings and felt the shifting of the winds around them. She could feel the shape of her wings catching them, the way the change in her own movements changed the way her body responded in the hair. At one point she felt the pair of them suddenly left as she caught the winds and she giggled happily. She eventually found the happy medium to simply glide on the winds with the right shape and form of her wings.

She tightened her core to keep the right shape she needed, relaxed her back just enough to keep from hurting herself and that smile stayed plastered on her face. Though she wasn't expecting him to suddenly release her and as he did a squeak immediately came from her lips. She wasn't sure how much of her gliding was her, and how much was from him. At first she started to drop, but some of the shapes of her wings she had learned as he carried her she quickly adjusted to to gain some of the lift back. She shifted again to try to glide and moments later she was giggling again. She didn't maintain flight, but at least she wasn't plummeting like a wrong. She was going down at a very slow and steady pace, enjoying the feel of the wind and even the burn in her muscles as she forced herself to the right position.

"I got it! I'm really flying!"

The marshland hawk watched through yellow eyes as the girl listened to the instruction. And when he released her, he watched curiously. Wondering whether she would panic and fall to her death, but alas accompanying a nod of approval, he noted that she was able to adjust to a stable glide. He considered the girl. She was innocent in all this, and she was one with nature, not even a true human given her hybrid nature. Even Vorashu approved of her and the minimal chakra she seemed to be able to use. An example of the way things should be. And yet, Shinjiro knew in his heart that if ordered to, he would kill her without hesitation and close off any part of himself that might feel remorse. After all predators killed the weak every day, either for food, or simply an instinctual nature. That too was the natural order of things.

Trailing her from a distance of about 10 meters the hawk called out to her. “Good, that’s how it should be. Embrace your nature. Now land” he instructed, his voice sounding colder and deeper suddenly. He was sure given her deceleration she would be able to land with only minimal injury. They were several kilometers away from the main camp now, but it wouldn’t have been too bad of a walk though certainly when one got the hang of flying the distance did seem to go faster and easier. He didn’t want to slaughter this girl’s new family, not yet. But he still had to consider his options. It might still be worth his time to take others hostage or simply scout and learn more about Katsu’s weaknesses and the strength of her allies. It was obvious Mika wouldn’t be of much help in that regard. Nonetheless, he felt an urge to test her, maybe push her a little to bring out her potential. It was the most natural way he interacted with those younger than him, and slowly he found the ruse of his marshland spirit persona slipping away as he became genuinely interested in this girl.

Mika was so enthralled by her own ability to now glide through the sky she didn't even notice the shift in the hawk's voice as she went. She heard his instructions and nodded nervously. She worked to keep her wings in the right shape, to glide on the winds as her eyes searched for a suitable space. Once she was sure she had spotted a good place to land she worked to guide herself that direction. It proved much harder than the glide. More than once she found herself starting to drop too fast and any attempts to correct it came with a yelp from the girl as she fought against wind and nature in some moments. But before long she was able to get at least close to the area.

She at least was able to keep her "landing" to a suitable drop that didn't hurt too badly, though she did miscalculate and land in a clutter of bushes rather than the open space she had planned on. As she stumbled and worked to extricate herself from the bushes however, she was laughing. In spite of the tears in her clothing and the minor cuts in her skin she was laughing as she looked up to find the hawk. "I can't believe I did it!" she exclaimed as she looked for him. "Please tell me you'll come see me again. You have to teach me more!"

Shinjiro found himself surprisingly pleased as he watched the lively dragon girl tumble through the bushes. She seemed to do well when it came to trusting her instincts, he wondered if the same would apply to whenever she learned how to properly fight and kill. But for now, he could simply appreciate her vibrant innocence and youth. Of course, as much as he could appreciate the small moments where could get a glimpse into the happiness of others, Shinji couldn’t afford to spend the entire day playing around. He was in enemy territory, and he was beginning to overstay his welcome, the risk management would become too precarious if he lingered for long.

Perhaps there was one more lesson he could impart before he left. He landed on her head as she was looking around for him. “It would be dangerous to see me again” he said simply. He no longer felt any need to keep the ruse up, he would be gone before she could tell Katsu about the encounter anyway. He might as well speak to her as himself. “I lied to you” he admitted, letting the words hang in the air for a few moments. No longer did his voice carry the light and playful nature of his brief alias. Hopping off her head with a jump and a quick flap of his wings, he glowed green, transforming before her and landing in a crouch without a sound. Facing away from her the cloaked, very much humanoid figure slowly stood. The pair of Katana sheathed across his back giving weight to his next words. “I’m an assassin from Kirigakure. My name is Karagata Shinjiro, and I came here to kill Katsu” he explained. He hoped at the least he could open her eyes to the dangers of the shinobi world. Innocence was to be cherished but it could not last if one wished to survive for long when associating with rogue shinobi.

Mika couldn't help a giggle as he landed on her head. For some powerful spirit, he was awefully cute as he hopped around. But as he spoke again, things felt ominous and strange. She gave him an odd look, visibly flinching at the sudden green glow that surrounded him. When his real form was revealed the girl was frozen in place. "So you can transform like I can, just better, that's not much of a lie-" But her own words were broken off when he revealed the full truth and the girl's blood ran cold. Of course she knew of the villages at the least. Just as her mother had spoken of her father, she had spoken of other villages as well. But for Mika, she was so far away from the villages she never felt like she was in the middle of any of it. This place was away from it all, it was her home, a peaceful place to simply live and thrive.

At least that was how she had felt until this moment.

Now he was telling her she was right in the middle of it, and he was there to kill the mother of the dragon who had adopted her, who had saved her. She took a couple steps towards him in shock, her blue eyes flitting about his form as she took in the sight of him. "You made me think we could be friends? Why?" she asked quietly as she looked at him, tears forming in the corners of her eyes. Suddenly all she could think about was the small village she had grown up in. The same people she had seen as friends, the ones who had helped raise her. She remembered the hate she had seen in their eyes later, the horrors of the night when they had burned her mother alive.

Her hands started to shake as tears dripped from her eyes, though the girl didn't sob.

The cloaked assassin turned slowly, his green eyes fixing themselves on the draconic girl. His gaze was cold, empty. The look of a man that had stolen hundreds, perhaps as many as a thousand lives over the last decade of his career. “To gain your trust of course, to learn more about the people that live here, if any of them might be strong enough to stop me. But you haven’t been very helpful” he admitted. Shifting his feet slowly, slight wisps of green chakra emanated from him. He wondered if she realized how precarious her situation could become. Fortunately for her Shinjiro actively avoided killing children, especially girls whenever possible. Though he was calloused and resigned to his role of a weapon he did have a shred of morality, even if he did believe that in the end every life was meaningless.

But there was a fine line between when one was an innocent child and when one had to accept reality and find their strength in order to survive. He could see that Mika was trapezing that line and if he held any compassion towards her at all he felt it his duty to give her a slight push. That was how he helped, the only way he knew how. “I could kill you right now or take you hostage. Maybe torture you for more useful information” he stated coldly. Taking a few steps forward he crouched so that his face was directly in front of her, staring deep into her eyes. “You’re not safe here. You never will be, no matter where you go. Peace is a lie, so is safety. The only person you can ever truly rely on is yourself.” The words were harsh, but in his mind they were true. As much as he strived to find others like him that he could trust, that he could protect he knew that conflict and death were inevitable and no matter how strong he or his allies were when he faced death he would be alone and so would Mika.

She stared at him in shock. As a hawk, his stare had never been so could. She could have sworn his eyes were kind, even his words had empathy and care to them. But now that he stood in front of her as if he were human, all of that was gone. It was such a reversal to her. She would have expected such a stare from an animal of prey, but from a man? She swallowed hard, not even noticing the paths of tears running down her face as she heard what he said. He stepped towards her, but she didn't recoil, she only stared up at him and shook her head. "My mother was burned alive by the people she healed, those she guided by faith and.... these people here, the ones you say you're here to kill, they took me in when I had nothing and no one." Her lips peeled back from her teeth in a snarl. "You can't be human at all."

'They've protected you, and what will you do? Snivel and cry?'

She sniffled as she heard the echoes of an ethereal voice in her mind and lifted her blue eyes to look at him a moment, her eyes hardening just as her fist reared back. She was hardly thinking as she tried to break his nose, even as she knew it wasn't likely to work. She just wanted to distract him. The girl didn't really have weapons on her... but he certainly seemed to. As she tried to break his nose with one hand, her left went for one of his holsters and a throwing knife. If she managed to get a hand on it, she'd immediately try to stab him in the groin with it as she screamed at him in a rage.

The deadly Karagata of Kirigakure didn’t take any enjoyment from seeing the girl cry but neither did he feel any remorse or pity. Her world was crashing in around her and Shinjiro only felt that he was doing her a favor, increasing her chance of survival in the years to come. “No, maybe I’m not. The world is cruel and unfair, and I am the product of centuries of hate and malice manifested into a weapon like so many others like me” he assessed. Sure, he did have feelings of his own, he might even be capable of some form of love, certainly he had attachments. But in the end, he was still a shell of a man, a monster capable of slaughter and carnage on a scale few could comprehend. A god resided within him, empowered him and yet he felt as if his destiny was set and not his own to decide. The girl had suffered, she was in pain. He could see that, but he was all too familiar with those feelings of loss and heartbreak, of helplessness and the feeling of the few beacons of warmth in one’s life being ripped away. He had felt that way himself, seen it in his siblings and close friends and caused that same suffering in countless others. And he had learned to live with it.

When she punched him, he accepted it. She was no threat to him, and it was a promising sign to see her resilient spirit. Something to be encouraged. Of course, the strike didn’t hurt him, it likely wouldn’t even bruise but her fighting spirit was all that really mattered. Many much older and stronger than her wouldn’t even dare make such an attack on him. The simultaneous grab for his knife however caused the man to smirk beneath his cloth face mask. She had potential. If it was anywhere other than the groin, he might have even let her stab him, but even for him such a region instilled a natural instinct to defend himself against any attack. Stepping back swiftly he grabbed her wrist and pulled her forward to the ground, bending her arm behind her back and retrieving the knife with his other hand while continuing to apply pressure and pin her with his knee. But he wasn’t angry, this wasn’t Kirigakure. There was no pride or respect on the line here. She was simply a girl, and he was a killer that came to her home. She had every right to defend herself and her family and he understood that, even admired it. “That’s good, remember that feeling, refine it and keep it close and you might live a full life. What you do with it is up to you, but you won’t get anywhere if you can’t fight” he encouraged.

The great wyrm lay nestled within the molten rock and blazing fires of his chamber in the cliff's face. He listened to each word said and each step made. His great heart did swell with pride as his kin took to wing, but his temper had flared as he heard her cry. The ground would crack and bubble as heat began to radiate from his being, the living furnace within growing more intense. His great head pushed against the walls of his chamber towards the cliff's face, causing the wall to fracture and melt. Soon the solid stone would become as water and spill in molten rock and fire to the river below, and the titanic dragon would emerge, twisting his body to climb up to stare at his surrogate daughter and her assailant. A mighty roar would split the heavens as he commanded their attention.

"Shinjiro. Yes, I know who and what you are. All the realm will have heard my call and you will release her now if you wish not be bathed in fire and ash!"

His voice boomed and thundered as the skies became filled with smoke and fire. Ash came down like snow as the dragon's ire made manifest his primordial realm of Gehenna on earth. The enormous crystal formations along his body glowed bright as fire as intense heat radiated off him, causing lose leaf and grass to wilt and combust. After his words he'd lower his massive head, the size of an elephant alone, to loom with menace and malice over the host of the god of life, challenging and demanding, as he waited for response.

Mika yelped as she was pulled forward and subsequently pinned. She tried to pull herself out from under him, but he was far stronger than she was and she was helpless beneath him. Though even as he spoke, it wasn't long before she felt the shifting of the ground beneath them and the heat that came as a result. The young girl laughed. "Daddy's coming..." her words came out in a sing-song tone as she turned her head to look back at Shinjiro and was greeted by the sight of Kori towering over them behind Shinjiro. Even as the dragon threatened Shinjiro, the girl felt a wave of relief wash over her.

"You did ask about my new family..." she said, panting as she tried again to pull away. "Looks like you at least get to meet my new father after all." As confident as she felt like she sounded, she certainly didn't feel it however. She was still beneath Shinjiro after all, she was still at his mercy in the moment.

All she wanted was to go back to moments ago when she was flying through the sky with what she thought was a new friend and a hawk spirit, enjoying the freedom of the skies.

Shinjiro felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end. He could sense the rumbling, feel the presence as it began to stir. It was colossal. But he didn’t feel afraid, no more than one’s naturally heightened guard and self-preservation instincts demanded. Chuckling lowly, he turned his attention to the imposing creature of legend that emerged from its cavern. “So that’s the Dragon. Bigger than the last one” he assessed in a bemused fashion that borrowed small hints of awe. But his competitive nature and own pride as a fearsome predator of legend in his own right quickly overcame such feelings. Breathing deep, his own body responded to the growing heat in kind. Mika would feel it against her wrist, uncomfortable at first and then even painful. Relenting he released the girl, but only because in comparison to this challenge taking her hostage felt an admission of weakness.

He knew now his hand would be forced. Retreat or fight the full force of Katsu’s family in open combat. He might well be able to take them on, but he truly didn’t feel the need to. But that didn’t mean he wasn’t curious and the more information he had the better. His father would chastise him for being reckless, fighting an unnecessary battle against an unknown foe. It was not the way of the assassin. No, instead it was the pride of Vorashu. “Watch closely Mika, I’ll show you a glimpse into the might of Kirigakure. When you master your body, you don’t even need wings to fly” he stated confidently, tossing the knife to land next to the girl as he turned and walked toward the great dragon. Waves of heat emanated from Shinji’s body and his skin grew flush and red. And then without warning, he kicked off the ground, moving at 46 Speed, though an afterimage would remain on the ground for several moments, even as he kicked off the air itself, sending a shockwave in his wake and then another as he suddenly changed direction and closed in, aiming to strike the dragon in the orbital bone with a full forced punch of 46 Strength. He had no intention of killing the dragon if he even could. The last one he fought he had sliced his way through its throat and emerged out the other side and still it wasn’t brought down, healed, and saved by another of its kind.

*[Totem Style • Phoenix's Birth]
A-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
Prerequisite: [Perception]
Reaching the point of unreal the adept is capable of focusing their mind and body to great lengths. They control the surface temperature of their skin to raise to unimaginable degrees, nearly causing them to burst into flames, to repel attacks from opponents. They must focus for a full post but can sustain this stance for (Endurance/5) posts. This heat does hurt but does not travel beyond the surface layers of their body, protecting the inner tissue. While in use the user moves constantly in wide arcs, dispersing heat rapidly to prevent too much damage.

*[Totem Style • Dragon's Ascension]
B-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: *[Totem Style • Dragon's Divinity], 35 Strength
The adept can launch themselves skywards a number of yards equal to their strength. By kicking against the air with such force that they create a shockwave behind them, they can repeat these jumps off of the air itself and sustain this pseudo-flight as long as their Endurance allows. They move in arcs, always falling downwards towards the end of their arc, and 1/2 Speed.

Blurred Movement
S-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 25 Speed
Having honed his body to operating at high speeds Shinjiro has developed the ability to blur his movements at will making his fine movements more difficult to determine. If his opponent doesn’t have a perception/motion tracking technique of equal or greater rank then Shinjiro’s actual movements will be invisible to the eye, leaving only an afterimage of himself in his wake that will persist for a full post before fading.

*Look Over There
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
The practitioner throws a hooking punch into the side of their opponent's face around the orbit socket, twisting on the ball of their foot to add some extra force to the strike. The Tyrant was challenged and he allowed his heat to rise. The great beast watched and allowed the dancing flames to manifest in his throat, around his maw. He watched as the host approached, releasing Mika from his grip. As he did the great dragon made to rise his head and stand down, the challenge presented prevented that though. Kori watched him closely and began to growl, a low radial drone that shook the air. It didn't last long though as Shinji struck with speed and power to crack scale and stone. The first blow came and cracked the stone plate that now spilled molten blood, the heat catching the nearby forest ablaze as it soared to the ground. Kori did not fall though, instead turning his dragon's eye to narrow on the arrogant welp. Even as his head crashed into the ground he allowed the engulfing heat to erupt from his core, combusting his entire body in dragon's flames.

"Run girl, run to Beastia!"

His voice commanded respect, but was clearly already cracking. The pain in his head and jaw, the disorientation and near instant exhaustion, forced back as a matter of pride and protection. As he lifted his massive head he allowed the flame in his gullet to rise and unleashed a torrent of scorching flames aimed at Shinji. Knowing full well who this man was, he had no hope of actually winning this fight, just covering Mika's escape. It mattered not here and now, just a minute longer.

Mika frowned as she felt the heat begin to roll off of Shinjiro as he held her in place. The heat didn't seem so bad at first, but before long as she felt it against her wrist it started to hurt. Even through her scales she felt the burn, whimpering and writhing under him as she tried to pull away. She only succeeded when he released her himself and she scampered away from him. She moved onto her back on all fours and looked up at Kori for a moment before her eyes moved back to Shinjiro. He was but a small shadow in comparison to Kori's sheer size. Yet she felt fear sinking into the depths of her gut even as he tossed the knife towards her. She flinched even though it landed harmlessly beside her, and she snatched it up in case she needed to protect herself against him.

But his focus was clearly on Kori. He seemed to revel in the thought of fighting against the dragon and a moment later she could see why. The girl scrambled to her feet and screamed when he struck her father. She hated what was happening, and she wanted nothing more than to stop it, and yet there was nothing she could do. All she could do was as she had been commanded.

Tears stinging her eyes and a badly buried sob burning her throat, she turned to run as fast as her legs could carry her to try and find Katsu herself if she could. 'This is all my fault...'

The Jinchuuriki’s fist met stone armor, the resounding crack bellowed like thunder as the shockwaves of his movements rustled and strained surrounding trees. Molten blood sprayed, another shockwave backward and Shinjiro avoided the combustion that shrouded the colossal firedrake. Flames licked hungrily at the surrounding tinder. Dense underbrush, thick moss and large fungal formations provided firm resistance, likewise, the many streams created natural firebreaks. But nonetheless, they steamed and burned. The ground quaked when the ancient beast's head was slammed down from the single punch. The assassin unclenched his fist, his ashen hands brimming with power. Such hands had ripped hearts from chests, slashed throats, and pulverized heads. But until just now they had never felt the satisfaction and raw dominance of punching a dragon into the ground. It felt good. Vorashu stirred within, seeping raw aggression and power into his host.

An aura of green energy erupted around the cloaked man. Long, braided locks of hair rejected the hood atop his head, extending to rest between the pair of katana across his muscular back. The Dragon’s voice bellowed out a warning, protecting its kin. And for a moment, Shinjiro regained clarity. He felt compelled to fight, to stand atop the fire lord's broken body. But he didn’t need to. He had nothing left to prove, the girl would grow stronger, he was certain. Katsu would come for him eventually, but her family, those she cared about were not a threat to him. If they were to die by his hand it would be either a fight of their own making or an order he was compelled to follow.

A torrent of flames expelled from the dragon’s maw, to which Shinjiro responded by making a claw. Drawing back his hand he struck with such velocity that the air ignited, wind and fire creating an outline of a phoenix's talons, clashing with the dragon’s stream of fire, enveloping and turning it back to crash against the earth and spill out in a massive swath of flames. Smoke filled the air, the land writhing in the collateral damage of these monsters. But such ferocity came at a cost, already Shinji felt the toll on his body. Drawing power from Vorashu, he transformed into a beast of similar legend to his opponent. A phoenix with a 30-meter wingspan. Dwarfed in size several times over yet there was no doubt the Phoenix was superior. In this form Shinjiro was a harbinger of fire and death. And even dragons would be wise to fear him. When he moved, one could see only fire, as if the phoenix itself was only a mirage, a trick of the eye before being bathed in flame and suffering. During the war Shinjiro had decimated entire armies in this form. The type of power and destruction that had brought nations to their knees. And yet, one moment the phoenix manifested and in the next only a plume of fire and swirling winds remained as its wings beat at supersonic speeds, vanishing faster than it appeared. The Jinchuuriki had shown his hand, he knew where they lived, he had the power and the skill to raze their home to the ground. And by his own choice they would be spared his wrath. How they responded, and the consequences of their decisions would fall on their shoulders, and perhaps even their necks.

The boy spread his wings as the flames were rebuffed, nothing more than hot air before the majestic beast that flapped behind the dragon. A pheonix of fire and pride, a magnificent monster that even the dragons knew so little of. Kori witnessed it's radiant dawn-like wings and beheld true beauty and terror made manifest. The flames danced in his draconic iris and all he could think was "More". As the air blistered and cracked, as he spilled molten life upon the ground, and as the realm itself did witness the magnificence of these two primordial aspects of earth's fury made manifest, the dragon made to lift himself. Weak, desperate for breath and life. Desperate to protect his kin and refusing to see this magnificent creature as anything more than a threat, a challenge to overcome, he raised his head to the creature as it took wing. As it did turn to flee, Kori split the skies with fire and ash, sundered the earth's stone to bring it to heal, and resonated his fury and dominion to the heavens above, to match the waves of explosive sound that followed as only a rainbow of flame remained in the elemental fire's wake.
