Ancients Rest

Post by Izanagi » Sat Jul 30, 2022 1:59 am

One week after the meeting he had called, Shinjiro assembled those that were willing to embark on his expedition. Most of the Daggers had elected to come along as well as the 5th and 7th Swords. The Overseer had gone on ahead of the others and arranged a meeting point within Star Country. It was far too tedious to travel slowly with Genin and Chunin and he certainly felt no need to reward them with something such as carrying them all on his back. How they each got there would be of little consequence, but it would surely be several days after they set out. Once they arrived within Star country, they were given explicit orders to keep a low profile and to avoid the locals as much as possible. The last thing they needed was any attention drawn to them, Shinjiro was the third most wanted man in the world after all and he didn’t wish to leave too much of a trail.

There would be no inns or luxury comforts. Instead, they would journey into the massive crater, over 50 kilometers wide. Cloaked and adorned with his pair of Katana across his back, the Overseer of the swordsman reached the top of the crater. Behind them, the southern countryside was largely farmlands. But just over the ridge, massive sprawling jungles teeming with wildlife existed in an ecosystem that had been contained and isolated for thousands of years. Even just standing at the precipice the increase in humidity and temperature was immediately felt. To those with keen ears, many unfamiliar sounds echoed through the dense foliage. All manner of creature that could be found nowhere else in the world. Shinjiro inhaled slowly, Vorashu seemed to surge with power, fueling his primal instincts. He could feel it, the sheer predatory might of the natural world as it was truly meant to be. “This will be your new training grounds. You will be a predator, and you will be prey. You each have learned how to kill humans, now you will learn to adapt. You will learn to survive against any odds, and you will hone your most primal instincts. None of you are to leave this crater until I permit it. Work together or fight alone, I don’t care. Now go forth until you thrive in these lands or die trying” he instructed, staring ahead as he wondered if any of them would be killed.

Even he didn’t know the true extent of the power some of these creatures held. He hadn’t been in Star country since the tournament he had won here shortly before the war. But he did know that the moment they set foot in Ancients Rest they were all criminals by the law of this country. If any attempted to flee and were caught by locals, they would be executed for trespassing and for any harm they did to their sacred animals. But Shinjiro at least intended to restore the lives of whatever beasts they killed. It was the perfect opportunity to hone Vorashu’s powers of animal genesis. There was no telling what terrifying new monsters he might discover. The thought elicited a rare grin upon the handsome young man’s masked face. His lime green eyes shone with anticipation. Throughout the vast jungles those creatures with particularly keen senses turned their heads toward the King of all Beasts; and within him the ancient shaman from which all animals had spawned. Death was on the horzon and he hadn’t come alone.

Standing off to the left of the Leader of the swordsman was a tall, muscular fox ear man with five silver tails that swayed lightly as a series of seven swords were sheathed down his back, a hint of a smile upon the third blade's lips as he had been here before and things would not be easy for the young dagger's who had elected to make this journey to Star country. Hitachi's fang like teeth showed partially through his smile as the swordsman looked to the black tailed youth who had now manifested a total of three tails since he'd be appointed as the swordsman's dagger. His strength seemed to be rapidly improving, perhaps the kid had never had a decent teacher before him but either way his progress was satisfactory for the older Tsukino as he glanced back over towards Shinji with his deep blue gaze that was like looking into a vast ocean. Folding his arms over his chest he quietly listened to the words of the most powerful swordsman in Kiri and perhaps the entire shinobi world now, attuning his ears to the sounds of the jungle in front of them.

Hisato had come early aside his mentor, the third blade of the Mist Swordsmen, being given a taste of this strange and dangerous place allowing for his heart to tinge with a feeling of fear at just some of the beasts he had personally encountered at the edges of this grand and ancient forest that was cut off from the rest of the world as though it existed upon its own dimensional plane or something. Though both of his arms seemed to be relaxed down to either side both of his clawed hands were curled tightly into fists at this point as his dull grey eyes shifted onto the group's leader who began to speak. 'Until we thrive in this land?' What a statement to make when one considered the dangerous that lurked within the shadowy forest before the group. 'I'm not sure all of us will make it back...but only the strong survive in this world, as it should be.'

As his ears twisted to a frow attempting to hone in on the various sounds that leaked from the dark void of a triple canopy jungle he couldn't help but smile a bit, perhaps more of a smirk as this would be a prime opportunity to remove some of his competition if the situation presented itself while inside the dangerous zone. "Understood, Shinjiro-sama." The youth replied respectfully, he wanted to lead but in order for him to follow anyone they had to be strong. There were few to no one as strong as the Seven Swordsmen's Overseer...what a target to strive to conquer he was...

Mondai has been training in the lead-up to this week. While no way near as strong as he should be he chipped off some of the rust, nothing about this was luxurious this was a plane and simple survival of the fittest. This training would be unique but highly valuable since the mighty creatures famous in this region would push them to new levels. Mondai knew what kind of country they were dealing with Mondai brought his greatsword, while he was quite unskilled the sheer destructive force of its weight brought alone could help assist against even if it was a detriment to his speed which he figured would be fine if they encountered the larger dinosaurs or monsters.

"I can trace some of my ancestors to this place actually so I'll thrive easy! But that doesn't matter we're 'ere to 'unt!" While it was true Mondai had a certain history with Star country as the origin of his family could be traced back to the crater. The information was however very limited since it was ancient history at that point. And exact events were pretty much unknown. His remark on hunting and thriving made Mondai curious about how exactly certain dinosaurs tasted but he would rather not find out if he was completely honest. This was this time to shine and show everyone what he was capable of, as the weakest swordsman he had a lot to prove, and this 'mission' would prove to be a proper test of Mondai's abilities since the war.

Monster hunting in Star Country huh? As she arrived at the meeting spot and began to take in her surroundings, Asuna couldn't help but think about the prospect, wondering just what kinds of creatures they would encounter... It was quite exciting really... even if she was nervous as could be, not that she was going to let that stop her by any means. It had been some days since she had set out from home and she had had plenty of time to think on the way. As such she had made up her mind some time ago and had come to a few realizations in the process

While she was absolutely nervous, there was no way she was going to turn down an opportunity like this, an opportunity to not only get stronger but to learn about the capabilities of her compatriots as well. She was of course anxious about performing in front of a group like this and she did have her doubts about whether she was really strong enough for something like this but she simply took a few deep breaths and pushed it all down deep. This was no time for hesitation, especially if she wanted to prove herself capable and make it back home alive.

Soon enough Shinjiro spoke and she turned to face him, nodding at his words. Right... it was just as she had thought. "Understood Overseer-sama!" she spoke simply. This was going to be her moment... she was sure of it.

Why was he here?

Was home really that bad? Was the stench of mist and blood too strong for the sensitive one? Or was it that he didn't want to hear how his fellow comrades fell when they needed him the most, but what could a pacifist bring to the table? A monster hunting one?

Distractions, distractions. The immortal child shook his head, he grinned and kept pace with his sword master and friend Mondai.

Together they formed a blemish in Kirigakure, the gentle Karagata who fell under the slumlord, mean faces used to follow their ever shining grins and today their blades were to be tested. Yuuto, a child prodigy who fought with his sword sheathed, brought along his new weapon, Amendment.

The blue ōdachi would serve them well, he was enticed to show his cousin how it worked for he had admired his growth in the shadow and hoped that this time, it would be his turn to impress him.

Nozomi was currently traveling to the land of the ancients on foot sadly she was still getting use to her bodies abilities so she was practicing her physical attributes. As she ran along she panted from exhaustion pushing her self until night time then resting and doing it again. She made sure to memorize the route they were taking as well as any land marks for when it was time to return to Kirigakure. After a day or so of running maybe more she finally reached the spot where they were supposed to meet.

She would carefully listen in to what he and the others were saying as she waited to be told to enter the pit. She figured he would give some sort of signal when he was done explaining everything. For now she could just regain stamina she lost as she waited to be told to enter the crater. She then went over her options in her head and what she could do to complete this test. As soon as he told them to go fourth Nozomi would soon start to make her way into the crater.

She wondered what she would find down there and how well she could do.

The journey to Star had been an interesting one - Kozan's first journey out of the country in fact. He'd been told not to interact with the locals, so Kozan had spent much of his time in the trees, sitting and watching the sky. He wouldn't dare disobey his leader. Especially given he was his direct superior in the organizational hierarchy, Kozan recognized he had an additional responsibility to be exceedingly cognizant of Shinji's orders. Should anyone else be his superior, surely Kozan would be shielded from Shinji's gaze, but in this situation...not so much. He'd spent the night prior watching the people of the local village from an overhang, crouched in the branches of trees, watching torches light as door opened and move through the maze of the small village from one place to another. Infrequent and brief, there was more activity than Kozan expected from a small village, but much less than what he would see in Kirigakure. Kozan didn't sleep much, his body was meant to minimize the need, he'd go several days before the exhaustion would set in.

Now, they stood before this giant crater, exotic life below them in many forms. Each call out he heard activated some deep set genetic desire to predate, the animalistic genetic code set within him running amok in such a setting, when he was released he would set out to his peak. For Kozan, the notion of being a predator was the notion of being Kozan, there was no other state for him. For a moment he wondered if Shinji had chosen this exercise specifically for him, could this be another test of Kozan's capacity given how he'd failed with Anger? While Kozan was likely weaker than a number of the daggers, he was literally made for this type of circumstance.

He looked at Shinji with bright eyes, curious to what his leader expected to come from this.

Each of the daggers gave some form of an affirmative, none of them giving much to say except Mondai, who made a strange comment about his ancestry. What did he mean by that? Each of them seemed confident in what they were doing, but Kozan immediately had a lack of understanding. They were just to go out and hunt? Did this mission not have an objective? He would thrive in these settings regardless, but he lacked a directive. "Hai. But, what exactly are we meant to accomplish here?", he asked.

The Muramasa duo had travelled quite far, it had been a rather decent journey. Setting out from Kirigakure by boat, they had travelled for quite some time, a pleasant journey, not terribly far behind Shinjiro. They had arrived in Aroma Country first after a fair bit of seafaring and then travelled by foot the rest of the way through after stopping for the night at an inn. Their outfits? Rather inconspicuous today compared to their usual attire. They were wearing dull grays, blacks, and deep navy blues. Almost no skin shown for their entire journey, save that just above the black masks that covered the lower halves of their faces.

After some more journeying, they left Aroma Country all together and began to cross over into the Land of Stars. Their coordinates were fortunately quite clear and the two of them had no trouble at all meeting up with Shinjiro and the rest of them as they approached into the Ancient's Rest. Hisayo spoke finally, Kayoko standing idly just behind her. "As you wish, Karagata." Were the only words that escaped Hisayo's lips as she reached her hand out into the bare air next to her. Kayoko's form shifted, melted, and contorted, and she fell forwards. The core that served as her heart began to shift shapes, becoming a sword's handle that met Hisayo's outstretched hand as the rest of Kayoko's body melted and blurred and shifted around until it was no longer recognizable as human and instead as that of a rather hefty-looking sword. About a meter hand a half the blade was by Hisayo's estimation.

Hisayo breathed in for a moment and opened her senses, her eyes widening and her body quite visibly twitching as she scanned the area. She scanned the trees, the other swordsmen, their daggers, and the area around them. She looked into the crater and chuckled. "Surely this can't be any worse than having to train with Maido." Hisayo said finally to Shinjiro. To the others, she smiled and said merely "Let's go then." Hisayo stepped over the edge of the crater and began to slide down the caved in side of it, advancing into the thick jungle brush, her eyes peeled left and right, and she began to move more quietly and listened very intently to her surroundings. "Oh shit!" Hisayo saw it but it was almost too late. She dove out of the way and narrowly avoided being trampled by a rather large beast. She had barely heard it coming, it was so noisy here. She rolled and regained her posture, leveling Kayoko as the beast began to turn around, roaring and snarling viciously. It was huge, and covered in red scales. It had large horns that protruded out of either side of its face, and the very trees around it were cleaved, maimed, and destroyed by its very presence as it chased Hisayo around. Eventually, she leapt up onto its back. "I could use some help over here!" She screamed loudly to the rest of them.

The main jutsu of the Skitter Step, Senses Open does exactly what the name states. The user takes a moment to focus their bodies, then releases it. While in this stance, the users sensory input is increased, allowing them to receive more information quickly. This stance will remain in effect until deactivated by [Stop]. Practitioners of this technique will find themselves fidgeting and constantly moving, which can make it difficult for them to use this style while on stealth missions.

Kayoko:

After channeling, Kayako will change her body into that of a claymore sword over the course of a post, up to 15 meters long with a 20 centimeter guard, her core being the handle, covered in a thin layer of stone. This will last until she changes shape through another jutsu.

'The hunting...'

The fox tailed youth had closed his dull eyes for a moment as the other swordsmen and daggers spoke or continued to arrive to the small gathering that the Kiri shinobi had going for them at the moment, simply letting himself begin to reattune himself to this jungle like environment that they set at the cusp of. Hitachi couldn't help but smile at the thought and feelings that arose from hunting another, preferably another human but even dangerous animals and similar creatures like those pre-historic ones that supposably lived in this part of the world sounded interesting. Though he was confident in his own abilities he was still understanding enough to know that compared to the overseer and his current swordsman above him was that he was still lacking. Seeing this 'event' as more of a proving ground that he could still push and improve himself and his subtle skills of killing that lay with his own personal style of swordsmanship.

BOOM!

Massive disruptions in the very molecules in the air rushed into the special membranes of the shinobi's large foxlike ears just as the ground itself began to tremble at the massive, unknown source approached them as though the group had trespassed somewhere they shouldn't have. Smashing through the exterior rows of trees was a scale covered beast that looked like some kind of horned dinosaur but with a long club like tail, even heavy looking armor could be found around is head and neck almost like a lion's mane of hard bone or skin. 'My strength is still to weak to confront something like that head on...' As he moved with ghostly speed to his left the other, more muscular fox tailed swordsman leaped into action with the fellow two swordsmen as his five long tails each pulled a slender, long bladed rapier from the sheaths upon his back as the remaining two were drawn by his powerful looking arms.

Mist already spreading out around the blades causing one to lose sight of the actual blue metal of the blades as he swirled them around himself pouncing forward in a coordinated manner with Hisayo and Kayoko, his body blurring with nigh unmatched speed as his muscular body seemed to bulge as he engaged all his muscles spinning around in a circular motion as he leaped into the air appearing to go head on with the large horned beast while the latter leaped towards its back. Seven powerful blades descended from the floating mass of mist striking at various points on the face of the creature, to include its nostrils and eyes. Meanwhile, the younger fox had already distanced himself far to the left side of the unfolding battle, he was watching his tutor as he called him fight at full power for one of the very first times. Still fading off into the distance as he had no true intentions of involving himself in the battle, but he wished to be able to 'study' his prey and his true strength before he would come to challenge this man in the future for his seat amongst the swordsmen...

This is crazy, this entire mission was bonkers but it was an important one. Yuuto was surrounded by what he believed was the elite of Kirigakure yet the fact that he was standing here was supposed to be this great honour, but truthfully he felt a bit out of place. He couldn't show it but deep within he hoped that he wouldn't end up being a burden to the team. The fair haired boy knew that he didn't have too many opportunities to prove his worth to the organisation, seeing as he had already failed and his cousin was now a big shot, he knew that he had a lot to prove.

Grinning to hide his fear, the boy chose to swallow his true emotions for today was the day he was going to win, no matter what, as death wasn't even something he truly feared. He had been known to be a failure for the most of his life, mostly due to his fathers insane demands and expectations. There was no time for thoughts anymore, they were now here and things were going to go the way they were meant to be. With a front flip he landed hard on the lush ground, the jungle atmosphere got the best of him but due to his regenerative capabilities not even a drop of sweat was visible on the boys forehead. He refused to roll in order to not dirty his white clothing and instead landed in a superhero pose, he looked back towards Mondai in order to give him a smirk and a chuckle, but right as he peaked , a foreign noise caught his attention.

They had been warned that there were going to exotic wildlife around these parts but nothing could prepare him for what he would witness, he watched Hisayo leap out of the way as the massive beast trembled the ground beneath it, it trampled through the lush jungle with ease, snapping trees like branches and for a brief second his heart almost stopped, for there was no chance that the young boy could do anything to harm this massive creature, instead his body went into instinct mode, he witnessed the beast changing direction as it missed Hisayo, it was now charging towards his teacher and without second thought, the boy pushed him out of harms way and chose to be rammed by the prehistoric monster.

The bone crushing impact knocked Yuuto out immediately and sent him spiralling into the air, his body smacked into a branch that did nothing to stop his momentum and caused his body to spin out of control, Yuuto would soar in the air for a good couple of seconds before he was out of their periphery, he was down but not out.

Ancients Rest

Post by Mre-face » Sun Dec 11, 2022 7:08 pm

Mondai noticed a drop behind him looking back seeing that it was his best friend Yuuto who had finally caught up to the rest of the party Yuuto was Mondai's personal dagger, he needed to make sure Yuuto was sharp as a dagger for this mission which he liked to do through his signature gallows banter just to make sure that Yuuto was present and wasn't philosophizing like he always does. "Oi don't go off a try to be a peacemaker for these creatures they got teeth sharper than that blade of yours ya never use!" but as much as Mondai joked with Yuuto he in fact was one of the few he could call his true friend and sometimes as much as he doesn't like to admit it a source of comfort for his inner conflict. Yuuto had incredible wisdom despite his often mistaken for wimpy nature- Yuuto was the pacifist philosopher of Kirigakure, The Gentle Spirit who has a way of putting things in perspective not often thought of which helps Mondai in his lowest moments. Regardless, Dinosaurs don't care for Philosophy, and they were here to hunt nothing more nothing less.

As they walked, Mondai saw and heard sudden movement coming from the jungle, the large steps made Mondai draw his massive blade. While he was less skilled with his great sword, the sheer power was more suited for larger creatures. Mondai took a firm stance, placing the blade close to his body as the massive beast appeared from the forest line. Leaning in using his strength and weight in order to use its own weight and speed to his advantage. But before he could react, Mondai was shoved by Yuuto from behind, which caused Mondai to stumble. Narrowly avoiding the creature and put Yuuto in the line of fire. Launching Yuuto into the distant jungle.

"YUUTO!" Mondai exclaimed before he rushed after the creature attempting to impale the beast with his massive sword, his plan was quite reckless, but who cares he had survived the grueling war when did he deserve the chance to be careful? The plan was to jump on the back of the beast and ride on it's back and continuously pierce the dinosaur's vitals with his massive sword. Were this to fail, he would instead quickly reroute with the remaining Shinobi and plan accordingly.
